(Side note - will probably change Enguerrandol's nickname from Randol to Andol. Not a big difference but every time I think of Randol, I'm reminded of the villain in Monsters Inc.)

Queen Sinew? How is his relationship with Rondol and his family? and what do you think Sinew was like? (as personality and appearance)

if you don't know: Sinew Spider-Bite Queen, Shastacan's mother, Styneworthe's wife.

Unfortunately, Queen Sinew died before Randol was born but she would absolutely adore him as her first grandson. She'd totally be the kind of grandmother who would pinch his cheeks and sneak him money when his parents weren't looking. Grandson Styneworth would get the same treatment but with candy involved too.

I imagine she was generally kind, but had her limits. She understood that her people were struggling with the spider bites they'd get but after dealing with at least 100 people complaining every day, when she finally had a moment to herself she'd probably start ranting to herself or her husband about them.

She also loved arranging dances and parties for her sons, giving her the chance to dote on them and also have a night to relax and maybe get drinking.

If she and Styneworth were still alive, she'd maybe regret how she spoiled Shastacan, seeing his attitude, but couldn't help still giving him the attention he craves. She would've probably talked Alexandrea out of marrying him while her husband tried to sort out who had more of a right to rule after her first son's death.

How is Randol's relationship with his younger brother? Is it similar to the one of their father and uncle?

(Styneworthe: Randol, guess what? Father says that when I'm older, I'm going to marry the pretty princess Butterfly and become a king just like you!

Randol: That's... Nice...)

They used to be much closer when they were younger, before Shastacan started to mold Styneworthe into who he wanted the boy to be. Styneworthe is a father's boy and Randol is very much a mama's boy. The two don't spend much time together anymore but when they do, it's mostly Styneworthe talking about what his father told him earlier and ranting at Randol. Typical child stuff but the introverted Randol can be quickly overwhelmed.

Their relationship is definitely different from Shastacan and his brother. Shastacan and his brother were practically inseparable as children, being quite close in their mentality. However, Randol and Styneworthe aren't reaally close as previously mentioned. They also have very different personalities while Shastacan and his brother were quite similar growing up until his brother matured and stop acting spoiled to step up to the throne. Something Shastacan couldn't do.

They still love eachother but they have their own critiques on each other. Randol wants his brother to calm down and not act so spoiled while Styneworthe wants his brother to not be so boring and get away from his books. He also thinks Randol is ugly.

Who doesn't love a family portrait?

Thought I'd sketch some of Enguerrandol's family since I don't get to talk about him a lot. Those who've been following the blog for a LONG time may recognise Enguerrandol's brother's clothes to be Enguerrandol's original design! It's weird seeing the two outfits right next to eachother.

I feel like there's a mistake somewhere but it's 5:45 am. If there is one I'll fix it tomorrow.

Is Shastacan under pressure from his father, why does he want his little son to look so much like his father? Is his father a bad person? oh my god no, who do we hate now🤦‍♀️

Don't worry, King Styneworthe was a decent parent. He spoiled his children but never harmed them. Shastacan is just really petty and can't get over the fact his brother had first claim to the throne. He thought he deserved it more than him. The spoiling was the most harm his parents did since it made him an entitled man who thought he deserved the best.

It's a "You didn't give me what I want so now I'm going to use my son to get what I want" thing. When he manipulates his son, he feels better about himself since he's one upping a Styneworthe.

But the fact that he focuses all of his attention on him means that the new Styneworthe is also a bit of a spoiled brat. He's not as bad as Shastacan but the things Shastacan promises him gets to his head a lot, no matter how weird or impossible those promises seem.

Shastacan has a more normal relationship with Enguerrandol. He was born to inherit the Spiderbite throne (Shastacan doesn't get the irony of that) so Shastacan spent a lot of time preparing him for that. He doesn't particularly like spending family time with the shy prince, however, since he finds Enguerrandol to be hideous (Hence why he's covered in makeup). His adorable, bubbly second born is much more fit to go into the world and claim another throne.

Don't worry, Shastacan has his reasons, but he's worse than his father. At least his father loved them.

Are Enguerrandol's grandparents still alive? Did they have any influence considering that his little brother is named after one of them? Also why would they name someone Enguerrandol?

Enguerrandol's grandparents are no longer alive. I headcanon that the Mewmans in the Spiderbite Kingdom die younger than the other kingdoms as the bites from spiders can cause more issues to the elderly. Enguerrandol and his brother never met them.

Shastacan is still bitter over Solaria going back on the agreement between her and his parents to marry him off to Eclipsa. While he wasn't fond of marriage, he loves the power and comforts the highest of royalty can get. He tries his best to live the life he wants, dressing in purple (a colour associated with royalty) and no longer sticking to traditional Spiderbite earthy colours, and taken to name his children extravagantly. He mostly focuses on Styneworthe, trying to mold the young child to be who he wants. It was his plan from the boy's conception. Shastacan doesn't tell people this, but what Mewmans assume to be a nice homage to his father is actually a petty thing. He wants to shove it in his father's face that he's the ruler now, he has all the power and he was wrong to chose his brother to rule. He's projecting onto his son, naming him the same since the one who he's actually angry at is dead.

Enguerrandol doesn't like his name. He thinks it sounds weird and is too over the top. He begs people to just call him 'Randol' instead. (Side note: Feel free to refer to him as that if you want since I know his full name can be weird to type.)

As I said previously, their mother didn't have much say in their lives so Shastacan is in control of what they're called, how they dress. He wants mini hims.

Can you tell me more about Queen Alexandrea? I find her to be an interesting character!

(Also it's weird just referring to Shastcan's brother as just that so for now I'll be calling him Stanwood. This name isn't set in stone.)

Alexandrea was a peasant who worked in the castle as a nurse for the Royal family. She specialised mostly in treating spider bite wounds and the toxins they sometimes produced. So she was around the family a lot. The young Prince Stanwood was very eager to please his parents and do everything he could to show them he would work hard as king and look after the kingdom. He spent a lot of time outside the castle to do this, thus earning him a lot of trips to the Royal infirmary. Stanwood made small talk with Alexandrea throughout the years, forming a friendship. However, it was only when he was in his twenties and his parents were considering stepping down from the throne when he really started thinking about relationships.

He started seeing the kind and gentle nurse in a new light. He had spent so long preparing himself for his eventual reign that he didn't think much about himself. Alexandrea had been crushing on him for years but didn't try to make anything happen over her worries of a royal/peasant relationship and she felt he just didn't like her that way.

Stanwood started spending more time with her outside of being treated for his injuries. Their favourite past time was going to the library and having nights where they'd binge read a book with candlelight and snacks. After he realised he did in fact have feelings for her, he told his parents who were actually okay with it. They loved their children and Alexandrea had been such a big help over the years. Stanwood confessed to Alexandrea and was surprised to learn that she had felt the same for such a long time. They were eventually married and crowned the new King and Queen of the Spiderbite Kingdom after Stanwood's parents stepped down. Their people loved them (but still complained about the constant Bites they would receive). But the war was soon on their doorstep. They had previously attempted to have a child while things were calm but had no luck. And now they didn't want to bring a child into a war filled Mewni. Alexandrea dreamed of being a mother and having another person to love with all of her heart.

Stanwood's parents, still holding some power in the kingdom, agreed to marry off Prince Shastacan to Princess Eclipsa so the kingdoms would have a better relationship and access to more resources. Alexandrea was severely opposed to the idea of an arranged marriage but she had no say in the matter.

However, the marriage would not happen as the war came to an end. Stanwood's parents, already sickly, passed due to some nasty Bites they had received in their sleep.

Stanwood and Alexandrea once again tried to have a child but their efforts would be cut short after Stanwood very suddenly became ill one day. It was clear there was an overwhelming amount of spider venom in his body. Alexandrea did everything she could but Stanwood, too, would not survive his spider bite injuries.

Alexandrea was now a widowed queen with no heir to her name. She grieved heavily for weeks on end.

That was until Shastacan swooped in. He told her many things. Convincing things. He told her how strong they could make the kingdom, honor Stanwood by improving the kingdom in all the ways he wanted. All he wanted was her hand in marriage.

She accepted, not entirely aware of what she was doing.

She finally became pregnant with Enguerrandol. As much as she was worried and saddened by the fact he wasn't Stanwood's, she still loved him and vowed to not treat him any differently than she would've if he were Stanwood's.

But one day, there was an incident.

A giant spider broke into the castle and attacked Alexandrea while she was pregnant. It managed to bite her and inject its venom. However, Thanks to her knowledge on venom, luck and the fact it was only a small amount, both she and Enguerrandol survived.

However this has given the prince certain… features that made Shastacan instantly disgusted by him. Alexandrea doesn't care what he looks like. She was just glad he was safe.

She hates how he's forced to wear makeup and wear powdered wigs but it's for the comfort of the people and it appeases Shastacan.

And now, nearly sixteen years later, she remains Queen of the Spiderbite Kingdom. She has her two sons who she loves no matter how Shastacan acts.

She still does her nursery duties, mostly to get out of the castle, and hopes to one day write a book on a list of treatments and explanations about spider biites and spider venom to try and help people.

(I tried to keep this as spoiler free as possible but I don't think I'm going to have every little bit of her story in the comic. I also just love her and Randol and want to talk about them.)

So I know who Enguerrandol but who's his mother and who would sleep with shastican?

Queen Alexandrea of the Spiderbite Kingdom:

Queen Alexandrea was first married to Shastcan's brother, the previous king of Spiderbites. They had a great and loving marriage, hoping to have kids. However, one day, he fell ill and eventually passed. Shastacan had claim to the throne and manipulated Alexandrea at her most distraught moment into marrying him.

She's become quiet over the years, losing most attachments to the world outside her kingdom. She keeps in contact with Eclipsa but they rarely visit each other. Enguerrandol got his love of reading from her, an escape from reality.

Despite her not so great current marriage, she adores her children. She does all she can to be present in their lives but it seems Shastacan wants to take that from her too.
