Hi! You can call me Enigma. I use it/its and xe/xem pronouns, and I'm a general fandom artist and I draw anything I feel like. My interests tend to swap around relatively constantly, so sometimes I focus more on one fandom than another.

I have officially peaked, this weekend was the best, and now I don’t know how it could get any better lol.

I met Rob Paulsen at a con this past weekend and it was the most amazing experience ever. This was also my first con ever so like, this was the best! I’ve admired him since I was nine and my mom told me what Animaniacs was and I just watched animaniacs episodes on YouTube for days on end. He was the first voice actor I really ever payed attention to and I loved seeing how he worked characters from a young age.

It’s because of him that I broadened my horizons and appreciate voice acting as a professional art, and I had so much comfort from those characters.

So yeah. I met him. He was around an hour late poor guy. He then shook everyone in line’s hand one by one and some people got two handshakes. When he came up to me he just said “HELLOO NURSE!” And I kinda fangirled a little. Mind you Yakko is my favorite character he’s ever done and I had no indication that I liked Yakko like no pins, no clothes, no merch, nothin. Just a girl with normal clothes and a mushroom hat her mom made. And he said the line as he shook my hand.

I got to get a photo and an autograph from him and it was amazing. I got to thank him and he was so humble and so nice and so amazing and I just am glad this man exists.

So yeah. I think I understand how the “I met weird Al” guy feels now.

Hi guys!! I’ve got some big news for everyone: I’ve finally graduated highschool!! Now that it’s summer, I can focus on drawing a lot more now that I’m not swamped with finals or ceremonies. I am working on getting my driver’s license, so I am still busy in that capacity, but I’ll try to post more now that I have more free time!

Commander Lawrence is a gothic mad scientist - a ramble

Okay this will take a few paragraphs to explain but hear me out:

Now that I've caught up with the Handmaid's tale season 6 (and binged the entire series in less than a month) I find myself wondering why tf do I enjoy Commander Lawrence as a character.

The dude's a war criminal, a mastermind behind a misogynistic theocracy that has caused suffering and death to thousands of people. Especially on season 3 he was sickeningly diabolical at times, like he had no sense of empathy. Living in the hubris of his power and status.

He's so cynical and calculative it makes sense how he could make up something like Gilead as a though experiment and be curious enough to see it being tried in real life. It's like people are just numbers or pawns to control to him. Cattle to be sacrificed for "greater good" to "safe" human race.

And then it clicked me. Lawrence reminds me of those mad scientists in gothic novels. Ambitious men who defy all laws and ethics because they are obsessed with achieving their scientific goals which they believe will safe humanity. They are willing to risk everything and not care about the dangers. Commander Lawrence is a gothic mad scientist who's experiment (Gilead) has gone rogue. I enjoy Lawrence because his character is taking influence from things I enjoy: Gothic fiction.

And like characters such as Henry Jekyll or Victor Frankenstein he feels guilt for the suffering his experiment has caused to other people, and tries to fix the situation with, I predict, poor results. (Like guys, New Bethlehem will be dismantled by other Commanders eventually, they just let Lawrence to have his little project to keep him in control and enjoy the benefits)

And adding a dead wife that haunts him in his thoughts (plus Eleanor herself feels like a gothic character to me, like the innocent victim (which is a stretch to say about a Wife but Eleanor is one of the kindest characters in the series so shh) she's exactly like that mentally unstable Victorian lady) and their isolation in their home (both literal, and the ideological isolation as they do not conform with Gilead's norms). The house itself is a little bit gothic with the heavily decorated dark rooms and pale sunlight shining through the stained glass windows reminiscent of the rose windows of gothic cathedrals, plus a cellar with many secrets.

There is no clear supernatural element surrounding Lawrence's character which would be typical for gothic fiction, but maybe his lack of faith actually serves as that. In gothic fiction the supernatural is something that defies God and Christianity, like vampires, ghosts, and other things that defy nature. Lawrence stands out from the cast as a heretic who doesn't seem to believe in the core ideology behind Gilead: religion. While not supernatural, Lawrence's remarks regarding religion serve as something challenging the religiosity of the rest of the characters. He's different from the other villains because he is not "a religious nutjob", but he is also not like the heroes of the series who are more liberal in their believes, but still remain christian. I feel like this is also one thing that makes makes me latch onto his character because as agnostic atheist I find this agnostic character living in theocracy relatable and breath of fresh air.

What’s your favorite OC?

I love this question but it’s such a hard one to answer cause I’ve really only shown my latest hyperfixation and commission art here, and also I’m indecisive

If we’re talking Wings of Fire, it’s ABSOLUTELY this rain/mud prophecy dragonet I made named Flourish! She’s had the most art done of her, both by me and in art trades.

Now just yesterday I had to draw three characters in a new style for a school project and they are all pretty much in my top favorites as well:

My spiderwoman oc, Arachvid, a long-standing oc who’s a snow-leopard Demi human, Piper (she’s probably second favorite of all, and is like 3rd in most lore I’ve written about a character), and a newer oc who’s an alligator Demi human, Leland. His and his troops art is below, they’re treasure/bounty hunters.

BUT one of my overall favorites, who use to be a HEAVY comfort character and who has the second most lore (I think) is this Bull guy named Bentley. He’s out of a species I call Bovines, which.. is an unoriginal name… BUT it’s basically just anthro bulls / Minotaurs but all fur

All of these guys have so much more art that isn’t on Procreate, some that even predate my iPad kid era, but I’m out of pictures to send and I’m too lazy to dig for more. They also have SO MANY other ocs built around them, as well as Bentley having a bunch of AU designs cause I thought they were really cool. I could probably talk someone’s ear off about any of them, I really like stories and doodling comics around my ocs, so you’re lucky there’s a limit on the amount of pictures I can send cause I’d probably get so much more art of Piper and Bentley, who are in the same universe but aren’t really connected in each others stories (yes my side characters have side characters and backstories, I am guilty as charged).

If it weren’t for the limit I’d be showing my favorite oc groups as well, but I tried to limit myself to specific ones bc of the picture limit and the fact you were probably expecting just one oc in the first place 😂

fascinated by whatever pedro has got going on this year, not even in a malicious way. just looking at him tilting my head to the side and going “huh.”

i will say that i do feel like arm pump might be a big factor here so it’s hard to evaluate his actual performance in relation to the other ktms in light of that— but i do think we are learning that he’s also a very crashy young man like good lord. that one from the sprint OOOF… i’d honestly be really curious to see how his running changes on a machine that doesn’t need to be pushed so hard, but at the same time like. idk binder is also crashing more so it’s entirely possible it’s more of a fundamental machine flaw than an over exuberant riding strategy as well. all this to say EYE TOO am staring at him like what the fuck is your deal this year lmao

what an INTERESTING answer. I do not think I'll confirm or deny this. I think for now I am maintaining some of my personal mystery. but you're not VERY wrong...

Reading the Desire book is an interesting experience.

Like even if I didn’t know Hua Yong’s secret because of the tv show trailer and spoilers I’d still be able to see the reveal coming.

Nothing about Hua Yong makes sense but Sheng Shaoyou is too dick drunk to realize it…and he hasn’t even gotten any dick yet!
