Note
Personally I don’t expect team rwby to solve all bigotry, but I’d like to see them make any sort of attempt to at least begin to change something? Even relatively small scale?
The SDC seemed like the perfect opportunity but nope,
And maybe don’t kill,of characters like sienna and have characters like Robyn hill who are actively trying to combat class inequality get competed into fighting Salem instead
Movies like nimona manage it I don’t see why rwby can’t
This is the last time I'll be answering an ask to do with these issues in RWBY. I don't feel that there's a satisfactory answer, and certainly not one that I can provide. I've mentioned something along those lines before, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're not the same anon and didn't see my posted answer.
I recently reblogged a post about these issues, but that doesn't mean my answer has changed. That post basically said there is no simple fix, and that means it isn't possible to do in RWBY, unless it was a fictional fix that wouldn't work in reality, which would be disrespectful.
I'm not sure what you expect four teenagers to be able to do, even small scale. They're good at fighting Grimm, but that doesn't mean anyone's going to pay attention to them about anything else.
Ruby's lucky at least some people listened to her broadcast about Salem, but that's connected with Grimm.
Weiss was the SDC heiress but ended up having that taken away before she could do anything good with it, and actually doing anything would have had to wait until her father was no longer in control.
Blake persuaded Menagerie's faunus to form a militia and help save Haven from Adam's corrupted White Fang, but that took a serendipitous attack on her parents and their house partly burning down. She can't command that militia to do anything else.
Yang would struggle to persuade anyone to do anything. The last time Remnant at large saw her was during the Vytal tournament broadcast, apparently breaking Mercury's leg unprovoked. The CCT is still down, so chances are most people have no idea she was set up. I dunno, maybe she could intimidate some sense into people?
I'm not sure when team RWBY would have had time to do anything while in Atlas. Ironwood kept them busy. Were they supposed to take down or reform the SDC with the one night off they had? If they'd tried they might well have found themselves arrested, the SDC and its Dust is rather important to the Atlas military. And then where would they be with their goal of getting the second Relic from the Atlas vault?
As for after things fell apart with Ironwood... As important as these issues are, avoiding arrest and doing their part to help get word out about Salem, or helping Mantle and then rescuing Oscar had priority.
It's not the reason they've done it, they just happened to fall in love, but I guess it could be argued that Blake and Yang's romance is some sort of proof that faunus and humans are equal.
After Salem is eventually somehow defeated, I can imagine at least Blake working with or even leading the reformed White Fang and campaigning for faunus rights. I'm sure the rest of her team would help her if there's anything they can do.
But survival against Salem has to come first. So a huntress like Robyn Hill doesn't really have any choice. There won't be any world to improve if Salem isn't stopped.
As for Sienna, take that up with Adam. I'd much rather she hadn't been killed off too, but there was no other way that was going to end between them.
That's the best I can do, anon. I'm well aware it's not a great answer. I can't provide one. I don't think there is one.
I haven't seen Nimona, I don't have a Netflix subscription. Maybe I'll watch it the next time I want to rewatch She-Ra. I've read the Nimona graphic novel years ago, but I don't remember bigotry being solved in there. Unless you meant an attempt being made? I need to reread it.
Edit: this got long and I forgot about a read more cut until now. Apologies!

watched a video about rwby having a cast bloat, not too many characters but not expanding on the ones they already have and instead introducing new ones to take the place of those old characters. thoughts on this idea?
the core cast in volume one/two is ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, nora, pyrrha, ren, torchwick, and cinder, with ozpin, ironwood, and qrow being key players in the background.
the core cast in volume four is ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, nora, ren, sun, salem, and cinder, with oscar, ironwood, and qrow being key players in the background.
the core cast in volume eight is ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, nora, ren, oscar, qrow, penny, winter, ironwood, salem, and cinder.
the core cast in volume nine is ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, and the curious cat.
in volume ten, the core cast will most likely be ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, nora, ren, oscar, qrow, winter, emerald, theodore, salem, and cinder, with the summer mystery simmering conspicuously in the background.
the narrative has so far spanned four countries, multiple continents, and a primordial otherworld, across nine volumes. the core cast has not significantly expanded in that time and has also not changed very much, barring a handful of major character deaths, new arc villains introduced after the villains of previous arcs were defeated, and promotion-to-main-status of a few characters who began as supporting players who were doing Main Plot things in the background of what amounts to the story’s prologue.
rwby does not suffer from cast bloat. rwby suffers from having a contingent of the fandom that cannot wrap its head around the concept of a “supporting cast” and is consequently so hung up on a bit character who appeared once in volume three that people were seriously speculating that Random Named Extra #27 was going to suddenly be super important in volume 9.
anyone who tells you that introducing new side character locals when the core cast follows the plot to a new location is “cast bloat” or “bad writing” is 1. off their rocker and 2. not acting in good faith.
for having the scope that it does—a globe-spanning cosmic cold war millions of years in the making—rwby has kept a remarkably tight cast. my for want of a nail au fic’s core cast is triple the size of rwby’s and i have hundreds of supporting players. like. lmao

Denouement is an 18+ pan/multifandom roleplay set in a unique world comprised of four distinct regions with their own quirks, charms, and troubles. We accept fandom canons, fandom originals, fandomless OCs, and even Denouement-born characters. more about denouement:
A NEW WORLD. FORGED FROM THE HOPES, DREAMS, AND FEARS OF THE PEOPLE OF OLD DENOUEMENT. You enter our story at a time of change. Once, this world was ruled by Gods: gods who formed factions, and chose which rifters to favor based on their desires, their ambitions, their ideals. Then came The Hanged Man, a world-eating entity responsible for the destruction of countless universes in the multiverse. The people of Denouement managed to destroy him: but not before the damage he'd done was irreversible. And so, the only course of action was to use the original gods' final sacrifice to create a world anew. This world truly belongs to the rifters who live here, forged by their hopes, their dreams, their subconscious, their fears. Yours, too. Newcomer though you may be, the moment you arrive, your emotions, your drives, your inner demons -- they will begin to forge and shape the world as well. There are some, of course, who will never see it as true freedom. How could they? They've been stolen from their own worlds. Taken away from everything they know. From loved ones, from unfinished business, from their entire lives. From whatever ending was waiting for them. Hard to say if you'll ever really know if this new chance to write your own ending is a blessing -- or a curse.

Great analysis here and I really don't have much to add. The only thing I can think of is when it comes to Raven.
No offence meant, but I don't see it as random that she went to RWBY+J. What I think happened is this:
Raven felt it through her Semblance when Yang left Remnant, and when Yang went where Raven's Semblance couldn't follow. She may have even felt it as something akin to her bond to Yang breaking. Maybe something like whatever happened to the bond I think she had (has?) with Summer. But not like what Raven felt when Vernal died, a bond that did break for real.
And I think Raven felt it when Yang returned to Remnant, and pretty much immediately opened a portal to her. She didn't need to happen to be at the memorial already. Wherever Yang goes Raven can get, so long as they're in the same dimension.
This is all headcanon, but it seems logical to me. Things didn't exactly end well between Yang and Raven in Volume 5, but Raven and Qrow came to blows without her bond to him being broken. That she opened the portal to him at the end of the epilogue proves that.
This whole thing is why what I want to see most in RWBY Beyond is Raven popping out of that portal and being reunited with Yang.
I don't know if Ruby will grab Raven right there and then and demand to know if she slept with Summer where she went with Summer, Ruby might wait until she can fill in her team and especially Yang first. Or she might seize the chance before Raven can slip away again.
Takeaways from the Volume 9 Epilogue:
--
One thing I really like about Oscar’s ‘If there was anything I wish I could borrow from you…’ monologue is that it laid out/confirmed something I’ve always felt was a major aspect of Oscar’s dynamic with Ruby that I nonetheless feel a lot of the fandom has missed: That Oscar very much sees Ruby as a mentor and an example to follow, and how their dynamic is specifically a foil to what we saw between Ruby and Ozpin. That Ruby acts as a mentor and example to Oscar in the same way Ozpin was to Ruby, and that Ruby is a far BETTER mentor and example to Oscar than Ozpin ever was to her. Which, as an aside, is a dynamic I can’t help but feel a lot of people have been misinterpreting as ‘ship-teasing’ and is one of the main reasons I’ve simply never been able to see Oscar as any kind of viable love-interest to Ruby. Frankly the dynamic of ‘Ruby is the mentor and example to Oscar that Ozpin couldn’t be for her’ is simply so much more INTERESTING than any kind of romance could ever hope to be.
--
Even in animatic form, Winter basically going overdrive on the maiden powers was a sight to behold. And her own monologue had all the self-deprecation we were expecting. Our girl is clearly holding on by a thread and it’s going to be REAL interesting seeing how she reacts and adjusts to her sister not actually being dead. As in, I can imagine a situation where Winter tries to throw herself into a heroic sacrifice with the belief that Weiss would make a better Maiden than her.
Also, Winter’s monologue giving major focus to how Penny is super-super-dead-dead-and-definitely-not-coming-back-for-really-realsies, as she is talking to the sister who she ALSO believes is DEFINITELY also dead? Specifically with the words that Penny is gone, when Penny’s last words to her were that she’d be ‘part of you’?
Yeah, there is no way in hell we’ve seen the last of Penny XD
--
The CROWN. Like it was only a few shots, but as someone who read the CFVY Books (which you totally should if you haven’t, they’re great), holy shit I was NOT expecting them to pop up here.
I mean, in hindsight it makes perfect sense that they’d be involved in Volume 10. They’re basically Vacuo’s equivalent to Vale’s criminal element and the White Fang splinter faction as Salem’s co-opted insurgency group, with Jax and Gillian joining Roman, Adam and Jacques as the latest of Salem’s unwitting patsies. It’s definitely going to be real interesting seeing the crew deal with them. Like it’s really fun to imagine Team RWBY in particular being kind of exasperated at seeing Jax’s probably doing a whole ‘With Salem’s help I shall be King!’ shtick after everything they’ve seen with Roman, Adam and Jacques.
Oh and if you don’t know, Jax has a mind-control semblance, so him trying to use that on Yang could actually lead to a sneaky callback to the Justice League crossover, ie; Yang doing a ‘Yeah, I’m not doing THAT shit again.’ XD
--
Qrow’s whole vibe through this is fascinating. Like his section may have been the one we already saw, but after seeing the abject depression and growing despair of all the other characters, Qrow actually being OPTIMISTIC hit so much harder.
--
Raven showing up at the end is… interesting.
I’ll admit that ever since we saw that specific clip a few months back, I’ve been rather conflicts about Raven showing up to deliver RWBY+J to Vacuo, particularly after Ruby’s tree vision. Like for one it felt a bit random and unnecessary. The tree already deposited the Ever After team outside of Vacuo so they didn’t exactly need help getting there. Not to mention that it kind of clotheslines the story-thread set up by Ruby’s vision; that she now has a reason to track Raven down to get the ANSWERS to what happened to Summer. Finally, it’s just kind of… random? Like where did Raven even come from to get the team?
But now having seen the clip with its intended context, I’m definitely more on board with it. Particularly hearing from Kerry and Eddy that the original ending for the penultimate episode had RWBY+J going through the portal to arrive at their memorial stone, and met by a ‘Mysterious Figure’, ie; Raven. Here it feels like were getting more set up to get answers later as to what Raven was doing at the memorial.
And really, now that I’ve thought about it more, this method kind of puts the thread of Ruby going to Raven for answers even MORE into focus. Like the story reintroduces Raven in the present right after Ruby got a vision basically saying ‘hey, Raven is important’. And now going into Volume 10, we’re pretty much perfectly positioned for Ruby to pull Raven aside for those all-important ‘Why were you fucking my mom? What happened to my mom?’ questions.
--
Finally… yeah that ending hit me a LOT harder than I was expecting. Like that ending was HOPE in its purest form and it was honestly beautiful to see. Particularly right now with the future of the show seeming so uncertain. I’ve personally been optimistic about RWBY’s future (in a manner not unlike Qrow’s vibes I suppose lol), but damn the hopefulness of that ending hit especially hard, and was something I’ll admit I needed. And I imagine the rest of us could use as well.
We'll be getting Volume 10. And 11, and 12, and however many more it takes it finish this story. At this point, I have no doubt of that.

Frankly, RWBY is my go-to example of men who write female characters with little to none of the usual pitfalls. Even when they may, there's one element that keeps its head well over water:
The female cast being so extensive as it is.
DireGentleman put it well here but a too common element of certain stories has been that they'll have a few or one female character amongst their sausage fest of a cast. Few of these cases are active intent on the author's part but it does speak to a "male as default" pitfall that is very much rendered invisible by a sphere of normality.
As such, you'll get female commanders in armies where the troops are all shown as male (@swan2swan made a few posts on the "female Stormtrooper" problem) for one and, for a classic example, one female character amongst an ensemble of boys.
Sometimes she's one of them and other times she's an April O'Neil to their Ninja Turtles, a normie to their extraordinary lives. Either way, there won't be much in the way of gender diversity. Especially if it's based on a toy line that subscribes to the "boys or bust" mentality that would rather kill off a profit that pivot.
But that's been dissected better in other posts...
Thankfully, RWBY was created first and foremost as an animated story project before the thought of merchendising was considered since RT wasn't super-duper confident it'd stick. Now it has firmly supplanted Red Vs. Blue as Rooster Teeth's flagship animation (the latter gearing up for its final season even).
This frees it from the shackles of heavily corporatized media that would prefer a toyetic show have a male prescense in the story or one where the female prescense is... palatable.
No character has to be the token girl who's either super bubbly and awkward or super stand-offish before the right guy comes along or rather reserve until the right guy comes along or one of the boys until the right- okay, I've made my point.
And it goes beyond the main cast as there's a smattering of girls and boys among the ensemble so it never feels like they were tacked on when the writers realizes, "Oh sh*t, forgot the estrogen," by Season Four or something.
If anything, Jaune is the token girl but genderflipped. He has healing powers. He has an arc but it all ultimately comes back to the main girls for the bigger plotlines. He's often the normal one that balks at the eccentricities of the girls and their shenanegins.
I mean... HE GREW UP WITH MANY SISTERS AND NO BROTHERS. Does that cliche not ring a bell.
Basically... Jaune is what I feel is the Sakura Haruno of RWBY if I may be so bold.

Cinder: (Swings door open quickly ignoring the note.) My Queen! Those brats have broke into the castle we must stop!
(Pauses while looking at the scene)
Jaune: (His head on Weiss's lap as she runs her fingers though his hair) Alyx was a brat but she still was like family she didn't deserve what that cat did.
Salem: I understand life is usually cruel. Now tell me more about this Curious Cat.
Cinder: WTF?!?
Cinder stalked through the halls and corridors of EverNight Castle. Her twin obsidian blades ready to strike down the intruders... if she could find them. Normally she would have zeroed in on the sounds of conflict and combat, but there was none. The grimm she passed, when she did come across them were just wandering about aimlessly, that was if they weren't sitting or laying down.
So without the sounds of a fierce pitched battle to guide her, Cinder was forced to actually search for the interlopers... who she knew was team RWBY and their friends.
Cinder: This is RIDICULOUS! I must ask my queen for help, to locate these brats.
Cinder made a turn at the next corner and stomped her way toward the throne room. She emerged from one of the side halls into the main corridor and turned towards her destination. Five minutes later she stood there before the large double doors... in total shock.
Cinder: I...
A Beowulf, dressed in a tasteful skirt and blouse ensemble, matched with a set of sensible heels, and topped off with a pearl necklace, and a pair of wire rim glasses... stood before the doors baring her entry.
Cinder: I...
The Beowulf pointed to a sign near the door, well a set of signs in fact. It took ever ounce of her will power to draw her eyes off the figure before her, and look at the signs.
(1) If the doors are closed there is either a meeting or session in progress. Unless it is an EMERGENCY no admittance.
(2) Sessions are by appointment ONLY.
(3) This is a ZERO TOLERANCE work place. Anyone causing a disturbance, or harassing staff will be asked to leave. Failure to do so will cause the authorities to be summoned.
(4) I am the boss, but my secretary is in charge. If she says NO then it's NO. There are no exceptions.
Cinder: Secretary?
The Beowulf nodded its head and using a metal ruler tapped the desk name plate.
Cinder: Grendelsa Grimmsald, Executive Assistant to Doctor Salem Salem?
The Beowulf who Cinder now knew was named Grendelsa nodded.
Cinder: But, I...
Grendelsa: *Grunt like growl*
Cinder: I know I don't have an appointment, but this is an emergency! The castle is under attack! I must speak to Queen...
Grendelsa: *Growl like grunt*
Cinder: I mean Doctor Salem.
Grendelsa pointed to a set of rather comfy looking waiting room chairs, and Cinder knew instantly she had no choice. So she sat down, and after a few seconds wiggled her butt into the plush cushioning getting more comfortable.
Cinder dozed off, and awoke with a start at the sound of the door opening.
Salem: I understand it is quiet the commute so I will have Grendelsa arrange for some accommodations for you, as in my opinion there is a need to have a few more sessions over the next week before I feel confident that we can space them out further. Is that acceptable Ms Schnee? Mr Arc?
Weiss: More than. Thank you for your hospitality, and all your help.
Cinder shot to her feet, her eyes wide in shock. Salem, her queen. Malevolent Evil Incarnate was in a black pant suit, wearing glasses and SHAKING HANDS with the SCHNEE who was holding the hand of the blond wanna-be knight from Beacon!
Jaune: I still don't...
Salem: It's alright Mr Arc. These things take time, and we progress at the pace that you set. There is no rushing this. Your mental health is very important, and with Ms Schnee's support and my assistance we will help you find resolutions.
Weiss: Can we give it a couple more sessions Jaune? I really do think this is good for you, me and us.
Jaune: Okay. I'll try a few more times.
Salem: Excellent. Grendelsa will make all the...
Cinder: WHAT THE FUCK IT THIS!!!!
Salem: Ms Fall. Those types of outbursts are not acceptable!
Cinder: WHAT THE FUCK, SALEM? THEY'RE FROM BEACON! THEY'RE YOUR ENEMIES!
Salem: Lower your voice or you will be escorted out.
Cinder: WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?!? ARE YOU GIVING THEM THERAPY???
Salem: You were warned Ms Fall. Ms Grimmslad if you please...
/==/
Twenty minutes later Cinder found herself sitting outside of the main gate of EverNight Castle, right next to Ruby Rose, Yang Xiao Long, and Blake Belladonna.
Ruby: You get kicked out too?
Cinder: ...

Rwby and the Aesthetic of Redemption: on Emerald Sustrai
Emerald was a victim of Cinder, but she was also an active participant in causing harm with her. Penny died, part of the attack that killed many, including team bronze, where three members are presumed dead, many likely died in the beacon attack, and Pyrrha died at Cinder's hands in the attack. She cannot take that harm back, even if she decides to switch sides.
She also was part of the reason Tuckson died. Tuckson is a Faunus and seen as marginalized in the series. The racism allegory in rwby is a whole other can of worms and if the show was that committed, Blake would've been interested in why Tuckson died as a Faunus. For example, there is a sadness in a Black person seeing another Black person dying especially if it was unjust because you see yourself in that and you are said for this person who died. Not to mention she was with Cinder when Confer killed those members of the White Fang
I don't feel like the protagonists should've forgiven or reconciled with Emerald and Mercury if these plot points in rwby remained the same. Like, I would not wanna be around anyone who had a hand in my friends dying or marginalized people dying if I didn't have to.
Characters like Zuko and Sunset work because they recognize the harm they have caused others. Zuko acted as an extension of the Fire Nation, and due to the harm the nation caused, people don't like the fire nation. Sunset was a bully who then hypnotized most of the school. In both instances, these characters are not forgiven by the ensemble cast or the the protagonists at first in Zuko's case. They recognize the harm they caused and they also recognized that people won't immediately warm up to them right away, but they still work to be better.
I feel like if Emerald had to look at the harm Cinder did in the series and had to decide "do I still want to be a part of this?" Like, she has little moments here and there where she feels bad for the people dying in the Vytal festival, and the kids who lost their moms in volume 8, but it’s never explored in a meaningful way. She never stops to think, “Is this harm I’m causing innocent people worth it?” It would've helped the series a lot. If plot lines like Pyrrha and Penny dying are kept the same, I'd like it if Emerald worked to do better even without forgiveness or reconciliation.
And it blows because Emerald is one of the few darker skinned people in the cast. Like all of team Rwby and Jnpr are pale skinned.

Since recently everything here has been taken over by dipshits who lack media literacy, i will come back here to say - RWBY is a good show. It is good. It has good story and good writing and good characters. Does it have stumbles and limitations? Of course, like everything else ever created. Is it the real reason yall are dedicating your lives to religiously following and picking apart every detail to find something, anything, to hate on and make it your whole personality? Nah.
Yall are just pissy your hc wasn't canon. And i'm only half-joking.
Yall are just stuck in the expectation of "cute girls in school fighting monsters and baddies", which it hasn't been for almost a decade. Let Beacon fucking die already, it was the most boring part of the story anyway. If you like it so much, watch.. idk, high guardian spice. Or maybe my hero academia, it has godawful writing too with your favorite Adam-like and Ironwood-like archetypes you adore so much.
And if you didn't click off already in hissy rage, and want to challenge me on the writing point:
Yall are complaining about pacing, characterization lacking, skipped development, insert some other reason, how "show went to shit after volume 3". Well, newsflash, look back at volume 1. REALLY look at it, without your nostalgia boner.
How, in what actually can fit into 3.5 full-length episodes, it skips a whole semester with only a few moments shown in like 3-8 minutes. Notice how Ruby and Pyrrha interacted like 2 times in 3 volumes total. Ruby and Penny? Yeah, they barely interacted too. Ren hasn't talked to rwby girls at all aside from ensemble scenes.
Too many characters in later volumes? Honey, 1-3 had SO many pointless grunts and you ate them up. The whole Vytal festival was filled with them.
Can you tell me the plot of volume 2 from the top of your head? Yeah, me neither. If i think maybe i can remember there was a mecha fight, a dance and a train, but beyond that what was the point of that entire volume again?
Your favorite, pedestalled, volume 3, most of which is fighty-fighty filler and the only stuff you actually remember when jizzing your pants about it is last 3 episodes.
Most character interactions and development happened after Beacon arc. Most actual plot and bigger story happened after it too. Yall are stuck circlejerking to *filler*, setup, which only purpose was to show the status quo to later destroy it and start to show the real picture.
Do you know why v4 and 5 feel so empty and missing something? Sure, juggling multiple plots gave it's pacing issues too, but it felt empty because there were no side characters to fill out the world and make it feel alive. V5 cast was so tiny it felt like nobody interacted at all. Because there were none of those "extras" yall hate on so much. The extras make the world feel real. Which is why Atlas feels alive when Mistral wasn't.
The most complaints about later volumes are chucked down to lack of media literacy and nuanced reading of situations and characters. Translated for your easier understanding: the writing was too nuanced for your "cute girls go fighty fighty brrr" brain to comprehend. Sometimes things require you to put the situation into character perspectives. Sometimes their decisions are made under stress + personality + influence of events and interactions. But i guess yall don't want to think, yall just want to watch "girl go brrr killy killy monster"
I can continue writing down all these other points, but i'm hungry and should get up so i won't. Bottom text: RWBY is a good show with good story and good writing and good characters. It has struggles and fumbles like every other piece of media. But for some reason, because it's indie, it's held to a much higher standard and everyone feels entitled to pick apart every detail of it to make themselves feel justified for feeling sad over their dead headcanons, even though they'd never do the same picking for big production popular series with much *much* worse writing than even the worst of RWBY's fumbles.
If you made it this far and are a member of rwde, congratulations, you still have a reasonable bone or few. Most others i guess clicked off at first point and blocked me after sending me some kinda death threat, idk, i haven't posted this yet after all.
So yeah, feel free to leave your takes and death threats below, i'll happily discuss further later

Lil' Miss Malachite was also the FIRST character to be introduced in a spin-off before debuting in the main series proper.
She was introduced as a boss in the game RWBY: Combat Ready (leading the "generic criminals" enemy faction), before she was brought in to forward Cinder's plotline in Volume 6, and then managed to be part of Roman Holiday's Big Bad Ensemble (which is chronologically set BEFORE Volume 6, but greatly expanded on Mistral's and Lil' Miss Malachite's worldbuilding).
Also, she's canonically robbed the Atlesian Military, which puts her on at least the same competence level as the Vale Chapter of the White Fang and Roman Torchwick. Unlike them, however, she did so WITHOUT any help or direction from Salem.
oh dope!

It's a small thing, but it annoys me that RWBY's official heights aren't exactly what I'd call accurate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if someone has their height taken as part of their medical records, it's not done with shoes on.
Tumblr media
This is the height chart Monty Oum uploaded to Facebook back in 2014. There have been changes since the early volumes - Ruby is taller than Weiss now, and Yang may have grown an inch or so too.
When it comes to accuracy, characters like Yang who have maybe an inch of heel on their boots aren't far off, but Weiss? Blake? They're not really 5 foot 3 inches and 5 foot 6 inches. Unless you include Blake’s cat ears when perked up. Yang’s taller than them by more than it appears.
Most of the girls and women on this height chart are wearing heels. Ruby, Yang and Nora are the exceptions that I know of, while Penny doesn't really have footwear, it's just part of her.
I can imagine Weiss likes to think her height includes her heels...
Weiss: I'm 5 foot 3 inches tall.
Yang: Yeah, you and your heels. Take them off and are you even 5 foot?
Weiss: What have I said about height comments?
Yang: To stop or else. But it's not like you can even reach my neck to throttle me into silence.
Weiss: (Summons her Arma Gigas and has it pin Yang to the floor under an armoured foot)
Weiss: Looks to me like you're not even a foot tall any more.
Yang: So this is what the world looks like to you—
(Arma Gigas stamps)
Yang: Wheezing laughter.

I'm not gonna engage with every single post, person and dialogue that disagrees with my points, if you don't like them, fair, and if you wanna write a mountain in response? Also fair I over-explain alot too And I might read it, could lead to interesting things.
That being said I'm tired of arguing points with people on topics of this show, not because it challenges anything but because it's clear people either barely deep dive into this show like I do or don't read things and skip to the bottom to read your bottom line.
This take was too wild NOT to reply to though.
@knoneawe
(You know what it is, long ass shit below.)
Tumblr media
Yeah RWBY'S very empowering, like when Miles and Kerry stated how they didn't see them as four women or female but awkward teenagers and then Miles made the Tweet about Tifa vs Yang "my money's on the hot one." Or the Ruby rose body pillow, 15 year old girl on a body pillow.
The things you're telling me goes without saying, however Jaune is a stigma of doing ensemble cast WRONG, because Miles latched onto him he got way more screen-time and writing than the actual proatgonist do, Look at the Hbomberguy, video, the JelloApocoypes one, Fatmanalling, Sickslickproductions even ew...hero hei... so many people coming to the exact same conclusion of ruby and the others barely getting the time they need.
Jaune's growth is explained my my last post, if you didn't pay attention that's not my fault, but anyone who can read or watch the crappy show, Jaune's a lazy asshole , a hypocrite and a creepy stalker- the show doesn't NEED that type of character
Regarding "Strong male aliies." Which jaune isn't btw. I mentioned in my last post the many media that have strong supporting male characters, another thing that goes without saying, Jaune however adds nothing for the series another characters like ruby or some other guy could add, he's just a sad white guy they wanted to make cool and it annoys me you people latch onto like you do.
Tumblr media
My POINT here is that first off having the fairy tale inspirations didn't amount to anything, and weather or not they made it 1 to 1 they still used a real person then gender swapped them into the worst character ever. My point is no matter who- I don't care if you're the best writer on the planet, stay away from adapting real people, and I've held this stance since I saw Anime girl Ben franklin.
And my other point is that the series could of worked exactly the same if Jaune was Joan or Joann - I mean you just said the show needed strong ensemble cast members so Jaune as a woman could of still worked.
Tumblr media
No he's not an underdog, that's how Miles described him, he's a Incel. People ROOT for underdogs, even sokka his inspiration, was a kinda shit person, but Sokka gets funny jokes, he loves learning, he cares about his friends and is fiercely loyal, he gets called out and so on. You seem to be under the impression I dislike Jaune because he has flaws, and I hate Jaune cause his flaws grow, the series barely addresses them then he piles on more flaws and his behavior that would get a real person's ass beat is never grown out out. Pyrrha babies him and does all the emotional and psychical labor for this manchild.
I love that you constantly avoid his stalking btw, come on big man, point out your fave's real flaw with your chest.
Tumblr media
As I said in my other Post it's not Jaune's fault, as we go on feels like you just skimmed it. But Jaune also doesn't help it either, Again you fail to realize, Miles projected and latched onto this character, and made him the focus on a show with four title characters. I'd agree he's not the root if there was ample screen-time for the other characters to point too, but there isn't.
I keep seeing "root" thrown around but people forget that roots have many points, Jaune is just one of the issues, that being Miles imprinting on him, it continues to go without saying that a better writer could make jaune likeable, work and not take up too much time- that's not what we got in the end. And the topic at hand was that the series could work without him despite someone else saying it wouldn't and I proved it could work, can't unprove it~ ^_^
Tumblr media
NO IT DOESN'T
Jaune gets egged on constantly by Yang and Ruby that "one day you'll get her." despite constant prodding, it's not until Jaune sees her ask another guy to the dance he stops. But not before none of the girls ever tell a teacher, they never call Jaune out, none of his team ever do, Jaune just stops- you keep saying grow but I watched the show I can point to the stands and you don't show me where these measures of growth happen- remove the rose tinted glasses, your fave is terrible, creepy and the show doesn't address it in any way.
If I had to actually address it I'd have team rwby call him out, and then his own team approach him, maybe Pyrrha fall out of love with him, this behavior would of been addressed in a satisfying way. But Miles didn't see it as worth addressing, and all Jaune just is put on a dress and apologize to Pyrrha.
Dude this is dumb, you're talking down to me like I was born yesterday, I've grieved many of my friends deaths, family, other people and I never handled it by putting holes in people's walls cause you'd know how other humans would respond sir? They'd call me out, I'd have to pay for it, I'd get yelled at.
After all I watched avatar and they have very real human and emotional moments, they break down, lash out, and you don't see me having a problem with them, you know why? Cause they get resolved, people talk, the apologize, they grow, they make things better, the get called out etc!
Jaune and Miles seem allergic to even trying to say sorry, and that attitude will carry into people who like this shit show (Hell I talked to people it already has gotten that way with.) People who act like Jaune never did anything wrong ate dangerously stupid, not you them. But you see what I mean now. Accountability is what I want to see.
And if I put my hands on a child I'd get slapped some sense into, that's what should of happened. Also what are they grieving? All they learn ins their teacher is immortal and reincarnating (even though that's not reincarnation he's possessing them, there's no new birth but miles and kerry can't write and you're assuming they wrote it in the way your head thinks they did. When they didn't know what they were doing.) I'd be fine with Jaune lashing out at Oscar if again these "Imperfect humans" had an comeuppance to their actions. Oscar ends up looking up to his assaulter. There's never any fear, there's no apology, Oscar just leaves to go get new clothes and they assume he ran away like idiots- these are how people are written dude.
And many more talented people write these exact situations more believable and realistic.
Tumblr media
I've talked with my friends, at this point in RWBy Jaune has already had these exact same themes explored from volume 1-5 and now it's just an older Jaune doing this exact same shit he did again- this point he's eating up screeentime.
I ran through a scenario with my friends that instead of Jaune falling in with team RWBY it should of been the newly turned sides, Emerald, that why she's bring tension and mistrust in a world of illusions and magic that already exist. We;d see they're being tailed by a hooded figure, too far to fully make either out. We wouldn't see Ruby for a long while; It just be Yang, Blake, Weiss and Emerald looking for Ruby. Eventually Emerald would earn their trust by taking a dangerous attack for one of the girls or even using an illusion to distract something dangerous. Thus earning their trust
Eventually the hooded figure would reveal a weathered and older Ruby who could finally articulate alot of the issues she's been having, Ruby replacing Jaune would not only be way more compelling and get rid of that creepy scene of weiss lusting after him. Keep it in your pants Kerry! But Ruby has suffered more than Jaune and consistently gets sidelined in this "female empowerment show" to show up nine seasons of repeated constant manpain. (btw I'm a dude as well.) It's time Ruby gets to talk about how she felt at the fall of beacon, how yang lashed out at her when they talked about blake during a quiet moment- all the pain and suffering she's been through.
And it could actually push the series forward cause they came to this stupid fairy tale to learn how to beat salem and learn of no ways to do anything, don't formulate a plan and don't learn any new techniques to help them. They got anime homework and didn't even take away that characters get abilities to fight bad guys with. Let her learn more silver eye bs, find a pot to shove salem's fat ass in, anything more than just more Jaune bitching an moaning.
I stand by him, ren and nora having the perfect exist in volume 6, RWBY fell off for many reasons, I have a list of them in my tag, I know what I'm talking about here pal XD But roots have many parts; tap roots, secondary roots and tertiary roots- and in those many points Jaune is one. Can he be fixed? Definitely! Make him Joan and don't let miles try making the show about him, hire actual writers and pay them, it all goes without saying and ti's all relative.
But when someone states that the series can't work without barf boy, oh ho ho do I call that a challenge~! Jaune's character is fascinating not because he lacks one, but because the writing of it is atrociously slap on the wrist writing. Jaune is barely challenged, barely has to listen to advice, or anyone tell him he's a piece of shit, he always gets the girl even if he doesn't want her. And as stated by the writers commentary in volume 4/5 that they write like idiots going "we gotta make jaune cool, we gotta make jaune cool" How about writing a decent plot and script? Jaune's too busy playing with his toys to realize that other people wanna play in the sandbox he shat in.
And Jaune would be more compelling, more interesting, more relatable if he got teared down by other characters and not by his on failures the characters constantly excuse or ignore. Let ruby tell Jaune that Pyyrha would be alive if he followed orders, Let ren speak up about his forge transcripts and how they'd be better off with another leader or how he took up a spot a real person worked hard for then slept in class. Let Jaune realize that if this is all he "ever wanted to be." Sleeping in class is freaking stupid.
You bet your ass when I got into creative writing I gave myself grey hairs paying attention so I didn't screw up and waste the money my poor ass family got me into college with. Jaune is handed most things and barely has to work for anything, and because of that- it just makes him less interesting to watch unlike a real underdog
Like Sokka or Ron stoppable, the Jaune done right! Hands down!
---
I'm not gonna go on with your flaw portion because as the kids say:
Tumblr media
And finish off with this. When you compliment or ignore the writing flaws a person makes you undermined the hard work better writers put into their own work.
This is a hobby it isn't a religion, and talk to people with respect, not me tho, this is my one and done! Anything else you say will be ignored as to not flood my or your dashes with long diatribes.
Be critical, be kind. -Plague of gripes
See ya.

I feel like the "Ruby should be more like a real protagonist" is the opposite end of the "main characters hog all the spot light while potentially interesting side characters get shafted" of fandom discourse.
Like there's obviously a middle ground but Shonen Titles like Dragon Ball have often been riffed on for always having it come down to the protagonist at the end of the day. It's why Plot Armor is so memed on.
Lord knows that if they made Ruby Rose all Shonen-kun with her Silver Eyes finishing the job, well, the Mary Sue thing is still being pushed by chuds sadly. This is why the "Jaune stealing screentime" discourse never rubbed me the right way. I like it when Ruby is an ensemble cast type of story where other people from other walks of life in Remnant get some focus.
Frankly, it would've beefed up the Beacon arc to see some of the teams that are shown in Before The Dawn dealing with their heavy losses. ESPECIALLY the one huntsman who survived out of his team. Putting budgetary constraints aside for just as second.
I think its mostly people missing the point of her character and also ignoring how protagonist-y she already acts.
Plus, let's be real here.
These same complainers also got pissed off when she acted " More protagonist" like with the whole aircraft theft or doing the broadcast. Their complaints don't come from a place of intellectual honesty.
As to the rest, I think it can be a fine line, I like RWBY when its being an ensemble yes, but there have been instances where it feels like more fitting characters didn't get used or explored for the sake of Jaune. There were reasons for this in terms of his role as Ruby's counterpart and contrast, but for all that I applaude the intent and various pieces of CRWBY's execution with that multi-layer deconstruction, I do think its one of the more clumsily executed parts of their theming.
