I realized I never actually watched the final installment of the Concept Corner series, so that’s what I had playing when sketching these. It’s just so fun listening to the brainstorming and cool character connections

Puzzlematsu Another One Overanalysis

Okay so I caved and properly edited my analysis of the Puzzlematsu set Another One. Not sure what its another one of, but I think it might be related to the Angel&Devil set because of its similar theming and colors.

The Angel & Devil set was more about right verses wrong. How the NEET’s approach things they actually struggle with (Example Kara and being a pushover).

The sets are also called Insider, and the description mentions them having an inner battle. More than that I think these sets specifically might be about inner desire, and how they choose to confront the thing their minds hide away.

Each set has one of the sextuplets being suddenly confronted with a shadow with a cracked mask, the last image always being how that Sextuplet choice to confront this piece of themself. I, personally, love the way they’re presented to us.

I like to make myself laugh by saying the shadow is coming out of Osomatsu’s ass.

For Osomatsu’s set, it repeats a lot of what we already know, but I like how it presents it to us.

Osomatsu is a park when his shadow shows up. A place he and his brothers spent a lot of time as children and as an adult its where he can be surrounded by like minded individuals (literal children). In the show itself, Osomatsu is known to bum around the park for day drinking or even just because he has nothing better to do. He’s literally surrounded by nostalgia and I think that’s where his shadow is the strongest.

The real meat of the meal comes from the final image of each set. It’s an explosion of color and conflict and Osomatsu’s just has so much to chew on.

For starters, Osomatsu's mask isn’t the only one with a smile on it. It is, however, the only mask with sharp teeth. Most of its cracks are from the top of the head and barely reach the eyes.

The masks are just that, masks for hidden desire or maybe even their more buried nature. For someone who is openly a piece of garbage, why is the mask so intact? What can we get from the mask itself?

It could be that the mask has such sharp teeth as a scare tactic. Something that makes others steer clear of it as a defense mechanism, or it could be how Osomatsu genuinely sees himself. Someone dangerous or aggressive. The cracks on the top of the mask could even be seen as devil horns, much like the image of Devilmatsu that Osomatsu is known for.

More over, Osomatsu is the only Matsu who is aggressive with their inner self so openly. Is it something he really doesn’t want to deal with? Or something he’s forcefully repressing? The inner self appears smug, like it knows there's nothing Osomatsu could do that would force it away forever.

I also find it interesting and kind of cute- how each sextuplet has a token in Osomatsu’s set, rather than anything that is unique to him. There is the money, but money is superficial. Everybody likes money.

The money itself is scattered and all over the place. Instead, its the little tokens of his brothers that are placed behind protective walls. Kept in place, unbroken, and where Osomatsu can keep an eye on them.

And really, that can mean so much. From- he loves his brothers- to -yikes- but regardless I think its an interesting way to frame Osomatsu’s perspective of his family and his inner self.

Karamatsu’s location of choice is a little hard for me to put my finger on in terms of meaning. Really, if we wanted a place that mostly belonged to Karamatsu, he would be on the bridge or the roof even. Except he’s not, so I wondered what made this window so important.

On one hand, I think they chose it as a reference to The Karamatsu Incident, even the sky changes when the shadow appears.

It could also just be because Karamatsu’s home is his safe place and where he likes to look at himself the most.

It’s also a little on the nose that his shadow comes from the mirror in a time of literal self reflection. Not to mention the shadow is the only one that directly grabs Karamatsu- almost like its demanding his attention.

For such a flashy guy, Karamatsu’s final image in the set is shockingly simple. The only thing really note worthy of his background would be his glasses and the arrows.

As for his glasses, they do get broken quite a bit in the show. He also uses them to hide, or appear more confident. In this confrontation, he doesn’t need to hide- hence why they're so out of reach. It could also be hinting at a shattered confidence.

The arrows? I’m not completely sure why those are there. The only thing I can really think of, is Todomatsu and the Five Demons. When each brother was hit with arrows when Todomatsu was eating them up verbally.

Which could mean the arrows are a stand in for hurtful words. If we want to take it more literal, then the arrows could represent the stand still Karamatsu feels in his life. The arrows are stuck, embedded in crystal. They cannot fulfill their purpose and they cannot go further than what they’ve reached. If you catch my drift.

Karamatsu’s mask is the only one with a frown on its face. The only shadow that shows its sadness.

We know Karamatsu is an emotional and sensitive guy, so that isn't too surprising. He tries to be a larger than life cool guy, but he’s actually super sensitive (His background being the most cracked and shattered could also hint at this.)

But his mask is just a bit more cracked up then Osomatsu’s, and if we follow a similar line of thinking when it comes to the mask, it could be how Karamatsu sees his buried emotions. Sad and pathetic- or its just how his emotions really are.

Not to mention Karamatsu is the one comforting his inner self. Meaning he is aware of its existence, accepts it, but still hides it. That, or he understands it but just isn’t ready for the mask to come off yet.

He’s cringe and he’s not free

This set feels like the equivalent of doing something fun only to stop and realize you probably look cringe as fuck. Like drawing your homestuck oc in 2025- I say, as I look in a mirror

Once again, Choromatsu is in the comfort of his own home, where he can indulge in his interests and have fun. That’s when the self reflection kicks in, but its inviting and encouraging. It wants Choromatsu’s attention, or maybe to distract him.

Like Osomatsu, most of the meat comes from the final image. I’ve noticed Choromatsu is very self aware, but chooses denial more often than not.

Choromatsu openly admits to being a pervert. That he likes being lazy, and that he is an asshole- yet he’ll double back into denial right after confessions like that.

His background is structured, but its also breaking apart. Things like his glow sticks and his cardboard appliances are restricted by vines with thorns. Though I still have some trouble trying to figure out what that means.

Thorns can generally represent sacrifice or even just holding something hostage. Really, it could go either way.

Choromatsu could see these things as something he’s forcing himself to hold onto despite the facts that they’re holding him back.

It could also be things he feels like he can’t indulge in, because he needs to be proper member of society. Only his inner self trying to get him to let go of expectation. A battle of mind and heart.

Choromatsu doesn’t look at his inner self, but they are physically touching. Meaning he knows what his inner self wants, and he is aware of it, but he’s trying to pretend it’s not there. Like he doesn’t want to acknowledge it as a piece of himself but doesn’t force it away.

“uh … it’s a bit girly … no?” javier examines himself in the reflection of his knife’s blade, looking this-a way and that, the dark blue of a large silken bow now peeking sheepishly around his neck as it sits gently in his hair. next to him, kieran clams up a smidge, hands still held close to his chest nearby his completed ribbon project on javier’s head. he finds it in himself to wring his hands a time or two rather than immediately undo his work as javier seems to continue to formulate his final opinion. “you … think so? look at me?” kieran asks, politely as a mouse. javier easily complies, turns at his hips and looks behind, up at kieran where he sits on the stump above him.

kieran, as he peers over, can’t help the meadow of flush that blooms over his neck, then his ears, then his nose and his cheeks. he can tell javier is deep in thought by the look on his face, mouth twisted just a might sideways, cocking his mustache awry, and the deep wrinkle sat between his brows. the ribbon he used matches javier’s vest perfectly, and the shine of the silk warms bright in the sun, just like every piece of jewelry and metal javier has adorned himself with. with this ribbon, javier’s hair sits lower on his head, ponytail draped down his nape and more hair framing his face in his bangs. kieran resists an urge to tuck one side back behind his ear.

kieran thinks that he looks like a painting, a muse, a love letter so heartbreakingly full of adoration that the only language it could be written in is bright swipes of pigment on a canvas. as he makes eye contact with the silk squinting around the red of a necktie, he thinks that javier may be right, if ‘girly’ could sum up ’poetry written in effeminate reverence’.

kieran always did think women made better art, wrote better books- found a better way to love. softer. warmer. prettier. like javier.

the world sounds like it’s underwater.

“i think … it’s very pretty. it suits you real well.”

earnest to a fault, the look in kieran’s eye dances gingerly with javier’s internal voice. it dips and sways him, and javier, despite his instinct, finds himself charmed by its rhythm.

“-b-but! i could take it out! if you don’t-“ javier looks down at himself in his knife again, the sunlight filtered through the leaves glinting a yellow green around his dark features, and kieran hands him patience on a silver platter. a rich blue makes friends with bright green quite easy, javier thinks. this is how he must look through kieran’s mossy lens.

“pretty … yes. you know, i think you may be right. i’ll keep it. gracias.”

haha sure! i really like G a lot and spend a lot of time yapping about them (for someone who isnt my main RO surprisingly) AND ITS NOT EVEN MY FAULT theyre just too microscope worthy !! so theres a lot to ramble about even if its me just spewing random thoughts anything i say is just based on what ive seen so far (which doesnt include patreon stuff! one day ill join tho 🫡)

ik a lot of their quirks are from a lack of proper growing up and them being a star at such a young age.... the childish behavior (tho tbf a lot of characters can be immature at times including the mc :P) and i already ranted about this 500 times in random posts….. BUT when they flirt with the mc (i think somewhere in ch 1) and if you bring up Gs marriage in response Gs reaction literally had me side eyeing a little 🤣 like why are u freaking pouting!? who reacts like that!!!! i think that scene is probably one of the main reasons im constantly overthinking anything G does at this point cause it was such a strange interaction to me but it peaked my curiosity about them as a person lol a lot of those early G interactions made me think 'whats up with this person???' but they were also very entertaining so i wanted more

also can i be honest i wanna rib the heck out of G but also defend them… they make mcs life harder but i cant be mad at them considering their situation with viktor and how miserable they seem some days and theyre still enjoyable to be around overall so its a fight everyday to not start babying this character ngl

the way theyre presented as this cool rockstar and then as you get to know them…. to me theyre more just cute and kinda lame lol! its a bit jarring too considering their appearance my mc still thinks theyre cool but me personally i just cant at this point, luckily for them i find person who you thought was cool but is kind of 'pathetic' very appealing in ROs lmao

and the more i learn about them the more im surprised really like even this recent chapter again changed how i saw them more than i expected 😭 from the pov of someone who has engaged with G in mostly platonic and partially flirty way:

-them liking that the mc likes relationships and marriage (if you select that option) surprised me it never really crossed my mind that they would be interested in actual commitment… because of their personality and their marriage i was thinking an official(???) affair with them would start mostly on passion (and then eventually get serious ig) but not anymore! especially when they said they respect the mc and lurk on their profile like OH theyre ACTUALLY interested in the mc

-they were also… kinda shy towards the mc during the pool scene?? comparing some of the early interactions with the mc… theyre starting to shift from straight up cocky to like 'i hope this person likes me' which is very cute ugh

-i think mc flirting with dakota at the pool is the first time ive seen G show jealousy too lmao

-them bringing up that people think theyre an airhead and it hurts them ugh I HATE THAT… i feel bad because i do think their carelessness makes them come off… not very smart 💀 like i genuinely dont know what to think about this im sure my opinion will change over time but rn im like… ahaha i dont think hes a straight up airhead but i still feel guilty regardless

man. the most persistently irritating thing about daniel emond's "kill the whale" is how fucking GOOD it is at times.

every day I think about The Quarterdeck and how phenomenally it portrays that scene and the magnetism of agreeing to Ahab's quest even despite fear, and Dusk and the subplot of Starbuck falling in love with Ahab and being terrified of what that means, but ESPECIALLY Fedallah's introduction song where Fedallah is presented as a woman with agency, who looks the audience in the face and dares us to judge her for the life she has chosen.

Fedallah is presented as the captain's lover, the captain's party trick and pleasure, and owns the shitshow she lives in, and only chooses to reject that life once she tires of Ahab's fetishization and exotification of her, and then uses the very thing Ahab fetishizes so much (her prophecies) as a way to spell her own doom and drag Ahab down with her, freeing herself. The shivers I still feel when I hear Fedallah's triumphant crow of "come back here" as she sinks below the waves and Ahab watches in horror, knowing she is next.

weird post, but I just don't like how asexuality (and aromance too btw) is talked about online as a negation of things, as like an absence of understanding or an absence of action or an absence of intent. sometimes we slide back into "too stupid to get it/no thought brain empty" or just "oh you're asexual, you're then just Not a part of the conversation" territory, and I'm sorry to say but aspecs' relationship to sex and romance is *so* complicated most of the time, and I feel like exclusion framed as inclusivity is still a fairly recurrent problem, even in queer spaces.

I feel like we maybe lack good public resources on the emotional details of that experience. we're just lacking deeply personal art made by asexuals still in my opinion. the space ace stickers with cakes are cute and all but I'm personally really really over this as far as genuine representation goes

I don’t really understand your tags on that last post. If Rayla has the traits that people accuse Callum of having, and that somehow makes Rayla a monster, doesn’t that mean y’all think Callum is a monster?

If you're that toxic troll asshole that that post was literally about, then this is so fucking funny and sad lol.

And that literally isn't what I said. At all. That toxic person with the dozens of socks (and no life) gets pissed whenever people point out that Callum isn't completely morally good. He's very much a great person, and he has a great heart (and one of my fave characters in fiction). But he does have a dark side and has shown he is capable of doing morally bad (or at least gray) things, especially to protect Ez or Rayla. He literally referenced it in s5e8.

And that one person loves to act like no, that isn't true, he's completely pure and doesnt have any dark side, he's a perfect person uwu, source: trust me bro, also what is canon? They then go and act like "Actually Rayla is a terrible person instead." Ive literally seen people (or just other socks of that person) say that Rayla is worse than Viren. Rayla is anything but a perfect person and has flaws, just like Callum. Just like literally every actual person to ever exist. But they do the opposite of what they do with Callum and act like Rayla is neutral/morally gray at best but mostly a bad person. Makes me wonder if they even watched the fuckin show at this point because they just spew nonsense.

TDP is very good at showing through their named characters that not a single person is 100% good or 100% bad. Every morally good person is capable of doing bad things, and every morally bad person is capable of doing good. Or at least having a story behind them that makes it seem less like theyre doing bad things simply because they can; something that can give reason and explain why they do what they do. Only person who we haven't exactly seen that about yet is Aaravos, but seems like that may even change next season. I'm not explaining this well, but yeah.

This is what I think. And that troll swears up and down that the opposite is true, but also focuses exclusively on Callum and acts like Rayla is kinda like a moral opposite of him. And they trip over themselves at any opportunity to glorify Callum and vilify Rayla. They're both morally good people with faults that makes them do multiple morally bad/gray things. In the end, their good far outshines their bad. But that troll is like "nah" and flat out ignores canon stuff from the show and comics, and very clearly seems like they just want to argue and piss people off and cause problems. Like, fine, they can have their opinion. But it seems like more than just an opinion when it seems like their actual goal is to just piss people off. They also seem to pop up out of nowhere, like they stalk certain tags/blogs and jump in to cause problems where ever they see fit just for shits and giggles. Which is so extremely toxic and immature and slimey to do, especially when they've make literally DOZENS of sock accounts on MULTIPLE sites in the process.
