A good structure is something you can trust.
It relieves you from the burden of remembering and keeping track of everything. If you can trust the system, you can let go of the attempt to hold everything together in your head and you can start focusing on what is important: The content, the argument and the ideas. By breaking down the amorphous task of “writing a paper” into small and clearly separated tasks, you can focus on one thing at a time, complete each in one go and move on to the next one . A good structure enables flow, the state in which you get so completely immersed in your work that you lose track of time and can just keep on going as the work becomes effortless (Csikszentmihalyi, 1975). Something like that does not happen by chance.

Community is the antidote.
Now is absolutely the time to support queer authors, queer-friendly libraries, and queer bookstores. There is a lot of damage being done to these communities right now, and I truly believe community is the antidote. Find an author to uplift, request a queer book from your local library, and if you can, try and buy a queer book from an indie store. It makes a bigger difference than you might think.

🔥 The beacons are lit; the library calls for aid
UPDATES FROM APRIL 1 AND MAY 5: https://www.tumblr.com/lakecountylibrary/782730356592967680/federal-court-halts-dismantling-of-imls-in-ala
UPDATE FROM JUNE 16: Government Accountability Office finds withholding IMLS funds is illegal (Library Journal) It is still important to call Congress and ask them to fund libraries in the 2026 budget.
The Trump administration has issued an executive order aimed at dismantling the Institute of Museum and Library Services - the ONLY federal agency for America's libraries.
Using just 0.003% of the federal budget, the IMLS funds services at libraries across the country; services like Braille and talking books for the visually impaired, high-speed internet access, and early literacy programs.
Libraries are known for doing more with less, but even we can't work with nothing.
How You Can Help:
Tumblr media
🔥 Call your congressperson!
Use the app of your choice or look 'em up here: https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member
Pro tip: If your phone anxiety is high, call at night and leave a voicemail. You can even write yourself a script in advance and read it off. Heck, read them this post if you want to.
Phones a total no-go? The American Library Association has a form for you: https://oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/messages/edit?promo_id=23577
🔥Tell your friends!
Tell strangers, for that matter. People in line at the check out, your elderly neighbor, the mail carrier - no one is safe from your library advocacy. Libraries are for everyone and we need all the help we can get.
...Wait, why do we need this IMLS thing again?
The ALA says it best in their official statement and lists some ways libraries across the country use IMLS funding:
But if you want a really specific answer, here at LCPL we use IMLS funding to provide our amazing interlibrary loan service. If we can't purchase an item you request (out of print books, for example) this service lets us borrow it from another library and check it out to you.
IMLS also funds the statewide Indiana Digital Library and Evergreen Indiana, which gives patrons of smaller Indiana libraries access to collections just as large and varied as the big libraries' collections.
As usual, cutting this funding will hurt rural communities the most - but every library user will feel it one way or another. Let's let Congress know that's unacceptable.

Another year around the sun another year full of fun another year of “hey what the actual fuck is wrong with tsukasa’s room?”
Tumblr media
From what I'm gathering the constant thing in WxS corner of this fandom is that every once in a while one of you guys goes "what the fuck is Tsukasa's room" and the rest just go "yeah that's one fucked up fucking room. What the fuck" rinse and repeat every few months and it's honestly the best thing ever.

See the New ‘Enchanting’ Electric Blue Tarantula Discovered in Thailand
Blue is one of the rarest colors in nature, but this arachnid achieves the bright hue through special structures in its hair
Researchers have discovered a new species of tarantula with a rare and “enchanting” coloration: Parts of its back, legs and mouthparts are an iridescent, electric blue-violet. The spider, named Chilobrachys natanicharum, is the only tarantula ever found in a Thai mangrove forest. The team described the arachnid in a paper published last month in the journal ZooKeys.  “During our expedition, we walked in the evening and at night during low tide, managing to collect only two of them,” co-author Narin Chomphuphuang, a researcher at Khon Kaen University in Thailand, says in a statement. “These tarantulas inhabit hollow trees, and the difficulty of catching an electric-blue tarantula lies in the need to climb a tree and lure it out of a complex of hollows amid humid and slippery conditions.” In addition to its coloration, C. natanicharum stands out among tarantulas because of its ability to live in both arboreal and terrestrial burrows in evergreen forests. The new research discovered the electric blue creatures live in mangroves, too, where they mostly stick to tree hollows because of the tides, per the statement...

can i just say typical man behavior on that guy's part to immediately go for the meanest words and phrases he can think of as soon as you asked for a source on his false statement. evergreen type of guy
literally!!! all i did was ask him for a source that men get raped more than women -- which is the claim he was making!!! -- and he immediately jumped to calling me ugly & crazy and telling me to "kill myself" and "leave men alone" (by... asking them for sources?). it's literally a textbook example of a cis man's misogynistic response to a feminist, but with trans people instead. i don't see how people can't recognise how obviously misogynistic this is lol. well i guess the answer is they know they just don't care

MOON 9 (Final)
<< FIRST | < PREVIOUS |
Tumblr media
The Clan is hit by an unexpected snow storm, and Shiverpaw is asked to grab some herbs at the last minute, before the snow completely covers them. Morningpaw and Barleywave join her, but something goes wrong. They are forced to take temporary shelter.
(Morningpaw, apprentice, female, 11 moons) (Barleywave, warrior, male, 38 moons) (Shiverpaw, medicine cat apprentice, female, 9 moons)
---
When leafbare hit, it swung hard. Windfur had warned Redstar that StarClan predicted this, but they overestimated how much time they had left to prepare. Snow came down in a torrent, blanketing the roofs of their dens and the camp grounds.
It wasn't a problem right now. But it was going to be soon. Cats could still see their own paws, but it didn't take a genius to look at the amount that was falling and assume the worst.
"Shiverpaw, this is important. Do you remember that last patch of nettle root?" Windfur asked.
Shiverpaw felt her heart drop as she realized what he was asking. She didn't lie. "Yes, Windfur."
"Good. Please take Morningpaw and Barleywave to help you. I've already let them know. I'm taking Hopechase to help me grab the last of some comfrey I spotted." Windfur finished this statement without fanfare, immediately padding up to Hopechase.
Shiverpaw felt her heart drop. She went into the medicine den and grabbed a pouch she had crafted for herself after to replace the basket she abandoned last moon. When she finally stepped out, she was a bit surprised when Barleywave and Morningpaw were already waiting for her at the gate, looking at her with intent.
Windfur didn't lie, I guess, she thought. Not wanting to burden her clanmates for long, she caught up to them and the patrol headed out the front gate.
Shiverpaw strained to see beyond the thick veil of snow that fell from the sky. Her eyes narrowed as she desperately tried to recall the path by muscle memory. She never expected the snow to cover…everything. The evergreens, the twig bushes, the mulch and dead leaves below - all of it was draped in white. And it was cold.
"How far away is it?" Morningpaw meowed.
"It's…uh…it should be west of the training clearing," Shiverpaw replied.
"Well, best hurry then," Barleywave said as he shook his fur out. "You two know the way, right?"
Shiverpaw stared forward. She looked behind her briefly and could only see the faint outline of the camp walls. She stared back ahead of her, and unease rippled through her.
"I, um…I think," she meowed.
"You think or you know?" Morningpaw pressed, a clear edge of nervousness on her tongue.
"I-I mean, I remember where it is, but…" Shiverpaw trailed off as she kept staring out into the woods.
"What's up, Shiverpaw?" Barleywave asked as he padded out in front of her.
Shiverpaw didn't know what to say. She didn't know how to say that she didn't like how the snow blotted out how far she could see. She didn't like how it covered every object surrounding her.
She didn't like how it covered the branches of shrubs in the undergrowth.
Clearly, she had remained silent for too long, as Barleywave spoke up. "Uhh, nevermind. You don't have to say anything if you don't wanna. Here, let's just - I'll guide, I know where the training ground is." Barleywave beckoned the apprentices with his tail before trudging forward. While Morningpaw padded behind him vigilantly, Shiverpaw took a few moments before trailing after them.
Her head rattled in the cold. Her paw pads felt wet. Her nose felt runny. Every breath of air that entered her lungs itched at her insides. She felt snowflakes batting at her whiskers and falling above her eyes.
Leafbare was bad. Leafbare was so bad. She wanted to curse herself for letting Tree's description of leafbare stir her curiosity. As she felt the world pelt them with ice, she wanted to hiss. This was not beauty. Not even a hateful beauty. It just…did not care. Not for her, and certainly not for the world. And she felt like it was getting worse.
She barely came to a stop as Barleywave and Morningpaw stood in a clearing-like area. Shiverpaw tried to look out beyond the treelines, hoping to see the sky or a glimpse of the lakeview. She could barely make out a dark shadow of the lake and mountain.
Barleywave's voice was hoarse. "Shiverpaw, you're going to have to lead us from here. Do you remember where it is?"
Shiverpaw looked around her, trying to identify the bushes and the plants. She could still make out the shape of the bare blueberry bush…it had to be…right? She brought her nose to the ground and tried to smell any faint remains of nettle, only to grimace. Nothing. Just wet. Cold.
She forced herself to breathe. She had to know. She had to remember. Shiverpaw started padding west, past the bushes. She could hear Morningpaw and Barleywave call for her before rushing to her side. Shiverpaw kept walking. The nettle…the nettle was off the road, between a spruce and a large oak, on her right. She had to find…find the marked spruce. They marked it, right?
She kept padding up to the right and scanned the spruce trees along the way for one of their clawmark signs. The longer she pushed forward, the more she started doubting herself. Did…did Windfur forget to mark it? Or worse - had Windfur asked her to? Did she mark it? The cold was so numbing. The landscape was changing too quickly for her to stay calm. Blood started pumping to her ears as her blue eyes darted frantically.
"Shiverpaw!"
Shiverpaw heard Barleywave call out to her too late. Shiverpaw felt the ground give out on her right as she misstepped. She yowled, tumbling down a short drop off the elevated path. She jumped to her feet and shook out her entire body. Snow clung to her underbelly.
"Are you okay?!" Morningpaw called out, nervously pawing the incline to find a secure grip down.
Barleywave let out a laugh, leaping down and nosing Shiverpaw to check on her. "You're okay, you're fine. Just a stumble." Barleywave's voice trembled in the cold.
Shiverpaw felt shame swell against her skin. Her eyes darted around her with shock, trying to process what just happened. Then, she saw something that made her heart jump - a tree, with claw marks etching a star-like symbol.
"Here!" she rasped. "It's - it's around here, somewhere!" Shiverpaw padded ahead, desperately looking for a large oak somewhere.
"Are you sure?" Barleywave asked. He was distracted, looking at Morningpaw and making sure she was getting down safely.
"It's somewhere between that spruce and an oak tree, to the right of the path," Shiverpaw insisted. Morningpaw slowly crawled down the slope, sniffling and shaking. Her amber eyes were tinged with pain.
The storm was getting worse. They had to find the herbs, and leave soon. Shiverpaw was desperate to provide that relief to Morningpaw and Barleywave.
But actually finding the herb proved near-impossible, and the anxiety started mounting. She found an oak tree, but she wasn't sure if it was the one she needed. She dug away at the snow and tore up the ground, only for it to be replaced with more snow. Morningpaw and Barleywave were following her lead, and despite them asking Shiverpaw if she had any other indications for where the nettle was, she couldn't give them any. The cats were starting to be blanketed by the snow, and Morningpaw was whimpering.
"I want to go home," she mewled. "Please. Please let's just go home."
"We can't, we just - we can't, Windfur will…"
"Shiverpaw, the sign you saw on the tree - are you sure it was for herbs?" Barleywave asked. His eyes were watering. Shiverpaw stared at the warrior in fear as his nose and eyes were reddening.
"H-Hold on," she stammered. Shiverpaw dashed back towards the spruce, and when she double checked the symbol again, her heart dropped.
The star symbol was meant to be something good - healing, or holy. A safe ground. She assumed that it would be accompanied by a vertical line with a loop on the right, marking a plant.
It wasn't a plant symbol. It was a circle. A tunnel.
"NO!" she yowled in despair. Shiverpaw raked her claws over the tree and broke down, cold and sobbing. She was wrong. She was wrong and her clanmates were in pain, and it was all her fault. She was so swallowed up in the storm of despair around her that she didn't notice Barleywave place a paw on her. She could feel his body shaking.
"Shiverpaw, listen, w-we have to go back - " He stopped, then he gasped. "Wait!"
"W-What?" Morningpaw stammered as she approached him.
"Shelter! T-This is a temporary shelter - M-Morningpaw, help me dig at this tree's roots. W-We're going to have to wait for the wind to die down," he said as he brought his frozen paws at the roots of the spruce.
The three cats weakly dug and pushed the snow out of the way, their claws near-frozen and muddied. When ground gave way and the spruce was found to be hollow inside, it barely seemed to be enough to fit them. Shiverpaw's wet fur still managed to bristle as she saw the space was smaller than anticipated.
"G-Go, you kids go first," Barleywave insisted, pushing Shiverpaw in front of him.
"B-But Barleywave - "
"I'm your mentor, Morningpaw, do what I say, I'll be fine. I'm fine," Barleywave insisted, pushing her as well.
The two apprentices reluctantly slunk themselves into the confined nest space, forced to keeping themselves tightly against each other's flanks. When Shiverpaw glanced to see the entrance, she saw Barleywave could only fit the front half of his body. His tail desperately tried to curl inwards.
"I'm fine, don't worry about it," he hissed, as if reading Shiverpaw's fear on her face. "It's just cold. We'll be fine. T-The wind is the bad part. If we can wait for the wind to die down, it'll be easier to get to camp."
Shiverpaw felt the world around her shift. Barleywave's voice felt muffled and distant. Morningpaw mewed with fear. The warrior tried to purr with comfort. Shiverpaw only felt one, resounding emotion thundering in her chest as her paws went numb.
This is your fault.
As time ticked onward, Barleywave's attempts to comfort them started to dwindle. He was staring distantly ahead, his eyes nearly frozen open. His nose was no longer runny - and Shiverpaw could see the skin around them turn pale.
"S-Shiverpaw?" Morningpaw squeaked, looking at her, terrified. "H-He needs help. He needs help," she repeated desperately. Shiverpaw stared blankly outside. The wind was still blowing. The world was still hateful and a threat to the living. She could hear her heart in her chest. She promised. She promised to help her clanmates. That's what she vowed to StarClan. That's what she said she would do, above all else, above all things. And yet, here she was, so scared, so terrified. Shiverpaw failed to suppress her whimper, pressing her head against the cold dirt floor.
She was desperate for someone, anyone, to please, please help her.
She prayed to StarClan, prayed for a sign, for some cat to give her the answer. An endeavour that she knew would never happen. StarClan could only see, and warn, never intervene. Maybe they saw her now, and felt just as helpless as she did.
Was there someone out there?
Was there someone listening?
For a single fraction of a heartbeat, she remembered the Silver Box.
…Are…you listening?
Shiverpaw felt something creep through her skull and spread through her mind. Her fears swirled in her body and left from her back like a receding tide. She feels…
Hollow.
Please. Can you hear her? Are you there?
She
calls
for
you.
