"A Ghanaian-English entrepreneur has designed an electric bike from the ground up that’s transforming short-range transportation in her home country, proving that problem-solving in Africa can be done in Africa, by Africans.
[Valerie Labi's] company, Wahu!, assembles each bike by hand, and they can travel up to 80 miles [128 kilometers] on a single charge. This means that a delivery rider for Glovo or Bolt can comfortably cover a whole day’s work without refueling.
Anyone who’s visited Accra, Ghana, in the dry season will remember the incredibly poor air quality. Poor roads mean that cars are stuck in second and third gears, and old cars traveling in second and third gears mean plenty of extra car exhaust.
Poor roads also mean exposed dirt, and exposed dirt means fine-grained dust. Combined with a lack of rain, the smog, dust, and car exhaust make the air in parts of the capital unfit for human health.
Wahu! bikes help alleviate all three of these problems, and despite her English nativity [Note: Super weird and unclear way to phrase it?] and education, the bikes were designed and manufactured in Spintex, Accra.
“By introducing electric bikes into Ghana’s transportation ecosystem, we’re not only providing a greener alternative but also offering speed and convenience,” Labi told The Mirror. “Our bikes are a testament to how service delivery can be seamlessly merged with environmental conservation.”
Valerie Labi is a true inspiration, and besides her transportation company, she got her start in the Ghanaian economy in sanitation. She holds a chieftaincy title as Gundugu Sabtanaa, given to her by the previous Chief of the Dagbon traditional area in the Northern Region of Ghana. She has three children, holds a double major in Economics and Sustainability from two separate universities, and has visited 59 countries.
Getting her start in Northern Ghana, she founded the social enterprise Sama Sama, a mobile toilet and sanitation company that now boasts 300,000 clients.
During her travels around the small, densely populated country, she also recognized that transportation was not only a problem, but offered real potential for eco-friendly solutions.
“It took us two years to effectively design a bike that we thought was fit for the African road, then we connected with Jumia and other delivery companies to get started,” she told The Mirror. “Currently, I have over 100 bikes in circulation and we give the bikes on a ‘work and pay’ basis directly to delivery riders.”
According to Labi, each driver pays about 300 Ghana cedis, or about $24.00, per week to use the bike, which can travel 24 miles per hour, and hold over 300 pounds of weight. The fat tires are supported by double-crown front/double-spring rear suspension.
The bikes are also guaranteed by the company’s proprietary anti-theft system of trackers. Only a single bike has been stolen, and it was quickly located and returned to the owner."

also I got a lot of thoughts on how eliot having that fight with his dad and then immediately shipping to basic training meant he ended up isolated in a way that made him highly motivated, highly trainable, and also extremely easy to fuck in the head in useful ways. which worked out great for the US military and later on, for moreau.
#maybe he would've gone however long without seeing his dad again after the fight anyways who knows#but 10+ weeks of getting trained into being Part Of A Group with a Specific And Noble Purpose probably didn't help#I think the turnaround from feeling frustrated and stuck and fighting with his dad#to then excelling in an environment where you can succeed and be valued by following a clearly laid-out set of rules#wouldve fostered intense loyalty.#he feels like he's good at this he feels like he's proving his dad wrong he feels like the army's his only family now#which puts him in a dangerous mindset when it comes to what he's willing to do.#then later on increasing disillusionment with the military + a sense of alienation due to moral injury#-> even worse isolation that would've left him extremely vulnerable to moreau.#leverage#eliot spencer

Hey y'all! I am considering trying listening to podfics, but I have no idea where to start. Like, I read a lot of fanfic, but idk how one goes about listening to them? Is it like an app, or a download it kind of thing, or what? Do you have any advice or specific recommendations? In the past I have really, really struggled with books on tape because I cannot focus on just listening, but I like listening to like sort of documentary-ish videos while sewing and that's just a person talking, so probably I would be able to focus on audiobooks or podfics now?
#the person behind the yarn#I have nothing against audiobooks or podfics I think they are excellent!#It's great to have options and everybody has different accessibility requirements and preferences#I think part of my strong dislike for listening to them myself though came from my oldest sibling's high school reading#they did not like reading the assigned books so our mom got it on tape and it meant the only thing playing in the car#for like WEEKS was The Old Man and the Sea#but I was not in the car every time they were! So I couldn't follow the story! and I hated only getting bits of it#and then the next audiobook was on a road trip and it was...one of the robinson books I think#swiss family robinson or robinson carusoe? one of the stranded on an island classics#but the environment of the island made absolutely no sense#and the animals they described as native to the island could not reasonably exist in the same environment#and when I (age like 11 or 12 maybe) expressed that everyone else in the car thought it was funny#but I was genuinely very upset about the book's unrealistic depiction of animals lol#anyway none of that is relevant here I just want to try listening to stories again

You know, I feel like the people who shit on writing that spends time describing the environment in service to a compulsive need to drive the plot along are the kinds who think the only purpose of a scenic hike is to make it to the vista.
#unsolicited thoughts and opinions on the internet#screaming into the ethernet#coming to you courtesy of the woman who will make you stop to appreciate an excellent piece of moss#Or a rotting trunk rich in the scent of dead wood and leaves and mushrooms#that malty sweet earthy scent#Sometimes I challenge myself to pinpoint the exact location of a bird I'm hearing#or challenge myself to listen/sniff out/look out for the nearest sign of water#Its fun even if it yields nothing#And now I have a better map of my environment so it isn't so intimidating#carry a field guide so you can identify the flowers and fancy plants and bugs and mushrooms#is this me being an elitist snob I'm not sure

steve pemberton on taskmaster expectations: machiavellian masterminding, elite mind games and puzzlery
steve pemberton on taskmaster reality: saying bleep a lot in the garden, throwing a watermelon onto a table and watching it hit the floor with a wet thud. one point.

i have a question. i'm making a deck based around hard choices. rakdos, patron of chaos as the commander, with cards like browbeat, vexing devil, choice of damnations, etc. do you think that playing against a deck like that would be completely miserable or would it be fine?
for me personally: i think that sounds like a really engaging and fun deck. as a red lover, magic is most fun when im playing on a knifes edge and carefully managing resources, so id love to sit across from this deck. those key cards you named are p low power tho, esp browbeat, so the only real concern is making sure you can close games
if you have a pod: nothing here feels like something you would have to ask "permission" for, but if youre really worried you would have to ask them directly
if youre just playing at your lgs: its legal, isnt it? youre all showing up to play a format that you each know and accept the rules of, and thats literally all you need to agree on. you cant please everyone, and you shouldnt try to at the expense of your fun. you made your deck with your money with the intent of having fun. if someone lets vexing devil stop them from having fun, thats not on you. magic is way too expensive to build a deck around someone else's fun
#sorry if that got heated at the end im just very opinionated on the subject of how the community goes about#enforcing the 'casual' environment with an iron fist#to be clear. i do take that into account with certain things. winter orb would be excellent in my raff capashen deck but i took it out#but being (primarily) a standard player taught me to play nice with what others consider fun#some might say its more 'toxic' but it actually feels healthier to expect others to let me play what i want and i let them do so as well#anyway. rant over#..... for now.#mtg

60(???) days until Charlie...??
#mira draws stuff#fate charlemagne#charlemagne#fgo#fate grand order#fate extella link#charlemagne countdown#I strongly feel that he would be disastrously bad at poker#you look me in the eyes and try to tell me that man can keep a poker face#he would give it his best shot obviously because people who can maintain a poker face and win are cool#but he's also simultaneously so easy to read he loses every time#anyways the FGO Poker thing was so fun it inspired me to do another pic for April Fools#hope you feel lucky!! because this ain't happening again <3#EDIT: THE ONLY EXCEPTION WOULD BE IF HE'S PLAYING AGAINST KARL#THE POWERFUL DESIRE TO TROLL HIMSELF IN A LOW-STAKES ENVIRONMENT WOULD ABSOLUTELY WIN OUT OVER ANY SORT OF REASONING#Karl would conversely be excellent at poker due to all his years of experience and royal dignity (read: Imperial Privilege) and all that#Except when facing Charlie because the irritation at Charlie trolling him would throw him off his game#Karl: HOW DO I KEEP LOSING TO YOU??? heard some people saying that hayley atwell's character grace is being set up to be the next ethan hunt and carry on the mission impossible series, and my first thought was "well, she definitely looks just as good in a suit."
#watching them together in dead reckoning... they matching#the only reason i'm slightly skeptical of this is because hayley has said during several interviews that she doesn't see herself doing what#what tom cruise does -- with stunts and all#she Definitely has the acting skills and the versatility and the passion#but she has described herself as an extroverted introvert and talked about how tom cruise is in a total extrovert and very#in touch with his physicality & the environment around him; and that's why he can pull off the stunts so well and so successfully#so idk. she's obviously excelled in the physical action part of being in a mission impossible movie and i she's super capable#but they'd have to set her up as a completely different person from ethan with her own style of leadership for it to work#instead of as a female version of him#also?? with the way that mcquarrie doesn't plan out his films' plot until he finishes filming i'm not even sure that HE knows how the#franchise is going to end#mission: impossible#hayley atwell#grace#tom cruise#ethan hunt
