In honor of mothers day, how good are the lady ghouls at being moms? Daisy is the best obviously do not at me (sillies)

Cool, lady ghoul question! I've been absolutely slammed busy the past few days, so I'm more than happy for a question I can answer nice and easy. For my own enjoyment, I included Moira; though I have no plans to blow up Megaton (permanently, at least), I just really like the idea of her as a ghoul.

Ranking Ghouls by Motherhood Ability

Best Mom Ever, such a good mom that it makes you feel insecure about your own parenting skills: Carol, Moira, Tulip

A Very Good Mom, tries hard but occasionally makes mistakes: Bessie Lynn (occasionally suffers from "pick-me mother" syndrome, particularly if she has any daughters), Willow, Rose MacLean

Emotionally Distant, But Loving: Nurse Graves (unintentional workaholic, gets caught up in research ventures), Keely (can occasionally be cold and default towards "logic" rather than emotional intelligence)

Well-Meaning, Makes Terrible Choices: Calamity (she "gets bored" and changes her entire identity every decade or so; would definitely grow to resent the restrictions of parenthood), Trish (the general chaos of children gives her insane anxiety), Dierdre (can prioritize dating over parenthood, also a workaholic)

Physically Present, But That's About It: Greta (she's pretty well shown her hand that she will be jealous of a child if she feels the child receives more love/attention from her partner than she does), Holly (lives life in "hot girl summer" mode, doesn't exactly take motherhood seriously)

The conversation at the bar stopped as everyone turned to look at the door. Sydney recovered her good humor fast. “MacCready! It’s been… what, two years? Three?” 

“Long enough to know that the lead you sold me was fake,” MacCready replied, dropping his arms. “I checked every Walden Drugs store between Concord and Quincy. Nothing.” 

The ghoul bartender, without saying a word, pulled a shotgun up from under the bar and slammed it on the counter, rattling the glasses around it. Sydney spread her arms out in a gesture of magnanimity. “Hey, I’m sorry. I heard from a friend of a friend that most of those stores still had full safes. It was worth a try, right?” 

“I see you two have history,” Tulip said, rolling her eyes. “Charon, put the gun away. They came here on museum business.”

(a lot of this goes off of my old hcs from YEARS ago please bear with me)

underworld is at its smallest population since its founding. it used to be a much busier establishment so far as trade and scavenging went; several people owned pack brahmin (outside of course) and traveled to other settlements till the enclave and brotherhood got their footholds and pushed the ghouls back into the museum. since being stuck inside the population has slowly been dwindling even despite new people showing up (gob, snowflake, and crowley were the newest arrivals)

EXPANDING on that, barrows and carol were among 2 of the first to arrive to underworld. it was more of an area then of refugees with little structure or amenities until ahzrukhal showed up with a Host of followers. prior to arriving in dc, he had been involved in arms trade immediately following the great war and had amassed a following of a raider-like group. he was overthrown eventually and he and those loyal to him were forcibly ghoulified, after which point he stumbled upon underworld and started making it Comfortable.

there is a lot more to the structure of the settlement than is seen. i think a floor or two below the Concourse we can access in game there could be employee access halls, since reclaimed and openly accessible. theres employee showers down there and long abandoned lockers (no one really uses them and theres no locks but its a Place to stash things, no one really goes thru them)

FURTHERMORE theres a lot more beds and living areas thjan just what we get to see. beds and mattresses were recovered from nearby apartments using aforementioned pack brahmin

was thinking again of tulip knowing and teaching others ASL.... i think that likely most ghouls do know at least some! barrows was especially interested in learning and pushing tulip to teach others, he wonders if it could be a viable way to communicate with someone after they have become feral but he's not yet had a chance to test it (thank god.)

griffon has never actually been Into the underworld exhibit where everyone lives. he stays across the mall at his own place so he's never really had a Need to

WANT to give winthrop a glass eye.... when he was human it matched perfectly but now that he's ghoulified his eyes have changed color completely and its a bit jarring

most of the ghouls have never seen a super mutant, but they've heard of them. it was a Bit frightening when Fawkes showed up right outside but most everyone is cool with him now

Can't put into words how badly I wanted Tulip from Fallout 3

I've been threatening an effort post about Fallout 3 and Underworld. Well, here it is.

It's a museum in ruins, which makes my GLAM heart break, and why was an American history museum doing an entire exhibit about the underworld and the afterlife as told by a European author? In the national archives, the head archivist was bitching about an invasive sponsorship from Med-Tek. I don't know what would have been an appropriate major exhibit for the Fallout version of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural/American History to have. Maybe if they had made the museum just history, it could have worked.

Charon murdering the shit out of Ahzrukhal was amazing. Knowing that it cost 2K in caps to acquire him (thanks fanfic!), I had it saved and ready.

I didn't realize how inventive fan authors were when it came to describing this place. The only major exhibit is the underworld one, and the only other interactive area is the staff only area dungeon underneath. And this is a part of the game where having such a limited voice actor pool really hurts because all of the female ghouls and all of the male goals have only one VA. They do their best. But after reading fanfic where people describe the different voices, I couldn't get over how they all sounded alike.

If there is a remake coming on Fallout day like many people are predicting, I wonder if they'll make Carol and Greta's relationship more obvious.

Tulip handing out copies of Paradise Lost and having it give a speech bonus was neat. I read that epic poem in college and took an entire class on it and it's quotable but holy G-d it's dense. No wonder nobody else wants to read it.

Kinda surprised that Winthrop and Quinn don't have more lines or quests associated with them. I was hoping that I'd find Quinn out in the wastes somewhere, or even a cameo in Fallout 4, but all they do is hang around Underworld. Cerberus is hilarious.

I wish they had done more with Crowley's quest. Like... Why did a ghoul hater like Tenpenny hire him as a mercenary if he hated ghouls? And if Dukov did I indeed lock him in a vault with ferals to get rid of him in order to take his share of the profit, why isn't Crowley more active about getting revenge against Dukov? Crowley doesn't know what happened to Dave, he doesn't know that Jeff is dead and his son has his key, he doesn't know where Dukov is, but he knows that the crown Prince of ghoul haters is locked up in his impenetrable tower. I haven't gone to Fort Constantine yet to get the armor (and I get the feeling that a really nice set of power armor is not the only reason Tenpenny sent the mercs there in the first place) but if I was Crowley, I wouldn't ask the same person to get me all four keys. I would do it like House did in New Vegas and hire different mercs to do the job and maybe the token to pick up after the headshot would actually be a piece of jewelry or something and not just the key. Hell, why not take advantage of the merc to get revenge on all of your enemies, not just the ones related to Tenpenny and Fort Constantine?

Underworld also inspired me to make another effort post about which voice actors I would cast as which ghouls, so stay tuned for that.

I thought the ladies could use a ranking list of their own to follow up the one the guys got here. I've left Miss Jeanette off on purpose, as it feels wrong to discuss her sexually, given her obvious mental distress the entire time you interact with her. I also left the Wastelander from Fallout 3 off, since you cannot speak to her and most everything the game tells you about her is actually about her research.

fallout new vegas! I just adore the setting and it had the strongest story out of the ones I've played enough to judge imo. Also I had a big hyperfixation on casinos and Nevada so it gets bonus points for that.

though fallout 3 is pretty close behind it, simply because it's really fun. Also Tulip's in it <3

76 isn't really up there for my favourite game in general but Appalachia has been my favourite setting/location aside from the Mojave, it's just so gorgeous and the cryptids are sick as fuck.
