Fallout 76 Mutation Headcanons
Fallout 76 has been on the brain lately (that and TCM, but that's not why I'm here). I often come up with little headcanons as I play through the game, and I thought I'd share the ones concerning the mutations! This won't entail all of the mutations, but it'll entail some.
Unstable Isotope and Electrically Charged: Primarily activates upon a high heart rate and damage occurring to the person. Could be anything from a hit by an enemy, to a prank pulled by unknowing people. Unlike some other mutations, in which you slowly gain the ability with warning signs, this one goes from "you seem to trigger static electricity more" or "huh, your rads seem to be high, are you okay?" to "holy shit, what the fuck just happened and why did it blow up!?" There's a chance that (esp. if you're weaker by nature) you'll just straight up die the first time it happens, mainly in Electrically Charged. Is really nice if you like to fight with your hands and don't mind being hurt occasionally, but other than that, it's actual hell to live with.
Grounded: Hate static electricity? You won't ever have to feel with that shock again. Also, you can just... casually touch some electric things without feeling too terrible. If it can kill a human, you'll most likely only feel roughed up afterwards. Your body literally absorbs things like electricity. Pretty handy in fixing up robots, working with wires, and making generators.
Herbivore: Other than taking a liking to plants, you become more flighty and more likely to want to hide in a conflict. However, most people will take a liking to you, as now they get all the tasty meat to themselves! Not good if you're a combatant, fantastic if you're a worker! Try not to eat everything in the garden, though...
Oh, and your teeth will fall out and you'll regrow flat teeth for grinding plant matter if the mutation lasts for long enough. How fun!
Scaly Skin: Your skin basically looks like extreme eczema. Like actual scales, if you will. Will be pretty freaky to those uninitiated.
Will reblog with updates to this post eventually. Marsupial and Healing Factor have made me developsome crazy and horrific headcanons about them, boyd horror ahead!

Deathclaw Degeneration! (Commission)
Uncensored: https://bsky.app/profile/fanterfane.bsky.social/post/3ljbukapsob2t Commission for my friend, @Spider'sVice! SV drinks a quantum mutagen that turns her into a big ol' raging death machine!~ Deathclaws can be hot too! At least I think so. There's just something else about being transformed into a monstruous creature lacking any and all humanity besides instincts to fuck and eat. Such a simple life... I think this is one of my first times drawing a clitoris. It's... surprisingly easy. Dunno what was keeping me up about it. Also, can't believe I can say that I had to play Fallout 4 on work hours as a part of my job! It's a nice feeling I guess.

Fallout should really get more into the micro mutations that the radiation has caused. Like both with already mutated creatures and non-obvious ones.
Psykers, Night-kin, tunnelers and multiple other variants of mutated things exist so why can’t humans with other slight mutations? We know that radiation and FEV have affected how things have evolved, so it’d be really easy to say that these tribes or factions can do this cause they are slightly mutated to better fit their environment.
Perhaps Mojave people that live in very high areas have just noticeably long limbs due to all the climbing. Perhaps those who live in dark areas have larger pupils and borderline night vision. Perhaps rando NPCs that just mention having webbed hands cause their families live around water.
Like I’m not saying a bunch of new mutants or factions but just like humans who are more obviously slightly mutated.

A farmer that tends to his backyard garden in a now un-abandoned house, he’s probably the WORST guy you can ever try to talk to on account of his *reading off the back of my hand*
Wonderful and totally social aptitude for meeting others

Worldbuilding is an art 🩷 especially when you’re designing a 500-person, underground bunker with a eugenics class system.
This is the Standard Abider Quarters (Level 3). It houses two adults and their single child, the child living there until they are married and moved to to their own apartment. Unlike the other three classifications, Abiders cook their own meals.
