It seems like they only sell the cute guys, and one of them is my brother, but apparently, his friends were there too. Maybe I'll write a note about them; they've done so many crazy things."

FELIX FELICITIS

During his first year at Hogwarts Eren Jaeger experienced what it meant to fall in love.

It was, in one word, disorienting. The ground beneath him trembled, his heartbeat faltered, and in an instant, the world shrank to a single girl: Mikasa Ackerman, with her midnight-black hair and a posture so straight it seemed unshakable. 

But at that moment, he didn’t understand it for what it was. His stubborn nature led him to misinterpret the rush of emotions as something else—perhaps animosity, perhaps confusion—something he couldn’t quite name. And, as expected, it would take him years to realise what had happened that day on the train. The kind of thing that only clueless fools in love, like him, could experience, really. 

In any case, the event leading to years of suppressed feelings and childish anger (the day he first saw her) happened as follows.

It was early August, and like every year, the Hogwarts Express was pulling out from Platform 9 ¾, carrying students, teachers, and staff toward another school year. Eren, who had received his acceptance letter that summer at the age of eleven, joined in the familiar bustle, eager to find out which house the Sorting Hat would assign him to. While many pureblood children like him could easily predict their house, he couldn’t. His father was a Slytherin, while his mother had been a Hufflepuff.

So with all the excitement of wondering whether he’d wear green or yellow, he boarded the Express, promising himself that no matter which house he was sorted into, school would be an amazing experience. And, well, it didn’t exactly start that way.

The booth he’d been assigned to was already occupied—not completely full, but with one other occupant: a girl with black hair and skin so pale he briefly wondered if she was ill. She was engrossed in a book, her face half-hidden by a red scarf, never glancing up when he stepped inside. He cleared his throat, then nudged her luggage a little, hoping to get her attention. But she didn’t even acknowledge him. Rude, he thought.

It wasn’t until the sound of the candy cart coming down the aisle that she finally lifted her eyes from the pages. And although it irked him to no end that anyone but him had managed to break her concentration, he kept his mouth shut when she looked up at him with stunning, silver-grey eyes and simply said, “Oh, I didn’t notice you.”

Eren blinked, caught off guard by the directness of her gaze. There was something unnervingly sharp about it, like she saw right through him. Her voice was soft, but there was no hesitation in it. He could feel his heart trip in his chest. He wasn’t sure if it was from irritation or something else entirely, but he clenched his fists, silently cursing his body's reaction.

“I’m sorry,” she continued, her voice softer now, as if realizing her rudeness. “I’ve been reading.” She lifted the book. “Hogwarts’ history.”

He paused for a moment, unsure of what to do with the offer. He had been expecting something different—maybe an apology for being so absorbed in her book that she hadn’t even noticed him. Instead, she seemed oddly unaffected by his presence, as though he was the one intruding.

Finally, Eren muttered, “It’s fine,” and sank into the seat opposite her, still not entirely sure what to make of her.

Her eyes flickered back to her book, and for a moment, everything was quiet again. But it was a strange kind of silence, one filled with unspoken tension. He couldn’t shake the feeling that she was watching him out of the corner of her eye, studying him as he had done to her. Her silver-grey eyes were intense, focused.

Eren leaned back in his seat, arms crossed, trying to appear nonchalant. She didn’t seem interested in conversation, but that didn’t stop him from feeling like there was something about her that wouldn’t let him just ignore her.

He waited, not sure what to say. It wasn’t until the trolley pushed its way into their compartment that the spell broke. He glanced at the candy cart, trying to distract himself from the strange pull he felt toward her.

“Do you want anything?” he asked, almost gruffly. He figured offering something trivial like candy might break the ice, even if he didn’t really care about the sweets.

She glanced up, and for the briefest moment, a flicker of something—amusement, maybe—crossed her face before it quickly disappeared. “No, thank you,” she said, her eyes returning to her book.

And just like that, the moment was over. He was left with the quiet hum of the train and the sense that, somehow, something significant had just happened—but he didn’t know what it was. Not yet. 

All he could think at that moment was that this girl was strange, rude, and he certainly didn’t want her around. By Merlin’s beard, absolutely not!
