Ferthur isn't a WoL, but she has very obsessive tendences. This trait makes her passionate about the things she cares about, passionate and loyal to the people she cares about… but it also means she doesn't easily let go of things she should absolutely let go of either, such as spite, things that have become dangerous, situations that have become toxic, etc.

MSQ spoilers below the cut!

Once upon a time, Ferthur came into possession of a very interesting soulstone. She became obsessed with unlocking its secrets. She absolutely had tunnel vision, and the horror that soul-altering magic could unleash upon the world didn't really occur to her. Unfortunately, her mother was still working as an Imperial Shadow at the time, a job she took in order to keep them both alive and 'safe.' A Garlean she was working for/with, an npc named Fane lux Verinus, became aware of Ferthur's work. Ferthur was still young and idealistic, and this Garlean charmed her and convinced her to share her work with him. He then used her work to further his own career by taking credit for it and contributing it to the Resonant project for Zenos. Ferthur was understandably upset. Ferthur's mother recognized how dangerous this situation had become, and smuggled Ferthur out and more or less created her own "witness protection program" by assassinating an entire noble family under the cover of Lord Hien's battle for Doma's liberation, and giving Ferthur the identity of their 'surviving daughter,' Omori Kaya.

In revenge for this betrayal, and for hiding Ferthur from him, Fane captured Ferthur's mother and, unbeknownst to Ferthur, turned her into a biomech weapon. He was eventually able to find Ferthur, through sheer coincidence, used this fact to try to get Ferthur back under his control. Ferthur was able to kill him in the end, but it was too late to save her mother. Her mother was now a weapon, not to mention Ferthur wouldn't even be get to her without becoming Tempered by the Towers that had now shown up across the land.

In the darkest irony possible, the only way she knew of to free her mother from torment was to become a Resonant herself so that she couldn't be Tempered. She convinced Eligos, who by then she knew was an engineer who had left Garlemald years prior, to help her build the machine and make it happen. And so it was that Ferthur, now turned into the very thing she'd helped make possible through her own mistake in handing over her research to Fane, had to venture into Garlemald and hunt down and kill her own mother to free her from torment.

Because I am a little hobgoblin and I love to read about peoples' OC's, I wanted to chuck out a random WoLQotD that I didn't want to use as a single ask for my drive: What, in your opinion, is the most horrific thing about your character's story? Is it who they are and how they treat the world? Is it where they came from; the wars, political divide, state of their family, etc. Is it the magic they wield/was it an event that defined them?

I love a little horror/angst in my worldbuilding, so I want to hear yours.

Demontober 2023 Day 3: Earl Furfur

Furfur the Great earl of hell and he’s a Valet of Hell to Lucifer palace.

Furfur, also known as Furtur or Ferthur, is the 34th spirit of the Ars Goetia and a great and mighty Earl of Hell (or a powerful Count).

Furfur rules over 26 legions of infernal spirits and his seal must be worn when he is summoned. Even without the proper usage of materials and ritual, Furfur answers to his children, and further aids their livelihoods with answers and promises which are both communicated through direct thoughts within the mind, it is a trade. A single known cult for his praising is known, though his worship and learning is considered private, and entwined to single persons.

He appears in the form of a deer or hart with a fiery tail. He will always lie to the summoner unless he is compelled into a summoning triangle. Once he is forced into the triangle, he takes the form of an angel, and he speaks in a rough and hoarse voice.

Collin de Plancy has shown Furfur as a monster with the hindquarters and head of a hart, but the breast and arms of a man, and bat-like wings that carry him through the air. The wings may be intended to suggest his angelic form.

In demonology, Furfur (other spelling: Furtur, Ferthur) is a powerful Great Earl of Hell, being the ruler of twenty-six legions of demons. He is a liar even when compelled to enter a magic triangle, where he answers questions, speaking with a rough voice. Furfur causes love between a man and a woman, creates storms, tempests, thunder, lightning, and teaches on secret and divine things.

Funnily enough, Zepar is the one with the rougher voice here.

Zepar[5] is a Great Duke of Hell. He commands 26 legions of inferior spirits. His office is to cause women to love men, and bring them together in love. He makes women barren. He is depicted with red clothes and armor, like a soldier.

Did the color wheel challenge with some ocs from a story i’ve been working on/from my friend’s universe (@/trubblegumm). It’s obvious I started to get really lazy at some points but THATS OKAY!

The red one is Dorothy Goode, who is the protagonist of a story based on the Wonderful Wizard of Oz series by L. Frank Baum. She’s basically an exorcist with witch powers that she got from the wicked witch demon (@/trubblegumm’s oc) and she’s on a mission to get revenge on Oz the Wizard

The orange one is Buer Leonidas, but most just call him Leon. He’s a lion demon who’s been hiding in a little cottage in the forest making herbal tea because humans scare him, as he’s based on the cowardly lion

The yellow one is from the same universe but a different (not oz related) storyline. His name is Ferthur and he’s a harvest demon who had originally retired from demon antics but then a little girl (oc belonging to @/nerodroids) summoned him to form a contract and now he’s stuck as a servant

The green one is Oswald Douglas, but most people call him Oz. He comes from a long lineage of exorcists that are blessed with good fortune, and built their wealth off of mining emeralds and offering various “wishes” to their patrons and supporters. You’ll never guess what character he’s based on

The cyan one is Locasta, and she’s merged with a witch demon that feeds off of human hearts and consumes the memories of its human host. She’s based on both Locasta and Mombi, the Witches of the North.

The blue one is Beatrix and she’s from the same storyline as Ferthur. She’s an exorcist as well as a traveling magician on the side.

The purple one is Polina Himura and she was originally half human and half demon, but was later turned into a full demon by the son of Satan (character belonging to @/trubblegumm) explaining this storyline sounds insane

The pink one is Gwendolyn Goode and is Dorothy’s sister and engaged to Oz’s older brother. She was merged with a demon after a contract with it went wrong, and is based on Glinda the Good Witch of the south!

This is Eligos and Ferthur. Separate, they are extremely dangerous people. Keep them together, however, and they are perfectly happy to do no harm greater than potentially bothersome public displays of affection and the occasional mischievous prank. It is in everyone's best interest that you keep them together at all times, I assure you!

Their story began three and a half years ago, and will hopefully continue for many more. Eligos is the calm at the center of Ferthur's storm of chaos, the one and only person who she has always been able to rely on. To Eligos, Ferthur is the spark that inspires him, and his guiding light.
