Mr. Y & I are among the few single people left, & we're hurting! Even the couples in system are upset; they can't have dates etc.! All we want is a partner system, &/or someone we can all be friends with! Hello there! I'm a fictive of Stolas. I recently split in our system a couple weeks ago. To put it bluntly.. I have been struggling a lot. Making a blog might be a nice outlet for me.

Sometimes, how someone refers to you by name can be an indicator of how they see you as a fictive. I go by both my source name (Dabi) and Onslaught (a second name I use just as much that I picked for a bit of an extra layer of privacy if needed). But... 8.5 times out of 10, if someone only refers to me as Dabi and never once calls me Onslaught despite it being listed directly next to my source name? They're going to end up doing some weird shit like prying into my trauma, poking and prodding me to talk about source with them, or just overall treating me like blorbo from their shows.

Now yeah, you could say "why do you use the name Dabi if you don't like it?"--but the thing is, I like the name, it's still my name, I'm not going to stop using a name I do actually like. It's just a trend I've noticed of if someone outright is referring to me as ONLY Dabi multiple times over and never my other name, they're more likely to be internally treating me like a character and not a living breathing person. There's a few people who only or mainly call me Dabi that aren't weird about it (mostly sourcemates in-system and people I personally know), but if some stranger comes up to me and is acting like that then honestly it reads as a red flag until further notice. "Further notice" being if they pull some weird shit, or end up being normal about it for long enough I feel fine with it.

We've seen this with other headmates from other sources of ours too. Usually, our displaynames on places we talk will read something like "Onslaught/Dabi", "Vince/Jon" or "Fin/Sebastian"--a name we chose here, followed by a source name. Sometimes we just have a new chosen name by itself or sometimes we just have a source name, but usually there's both. But the trend is the same--if someone with two names is only called by the name of their source, chances are, they're being dehumanised even unintentionally and something weird is gonna go down soon enough. Bonus points if a headmate has an icon image of their source but their name is completely different, and people still come up to them calling them by their source name when it's not even mentioned anywhere--that's like a 99% chance of some weird fandom shit incoming.

Dunno. Wanted to ramble about this shit because I do keep getting weirdos coming at me online acting like they know me or know what I'm about just because they watched a fucking anime. People who want to talk to me and assume I have a certain outlook, or certain opinions, or for some reason just want to tell me they think my "backstory" is cool (I can hand the trauma over if ya want). Hasn't happened recently but I'm just having a think about the times it has happened--like man it sucks being a fictive sometimes. But maybe giving people the idea of using both a source and this-world chosen name could help someone? Generally helps as a barrier to deflect some of the werid shit anyway--I've found people are less likely to get all fandomy and parasocial when you have another name.
