'Premiere' vs. 'preview'
When you are an absolute charlatan, but still want to look sophisticated and use Google Translate to prove your point.
There is some furious gloating across the street about C finally 'confirming' Tony McGill attended the London premiere, despite her clearly stating the contrary in that BBC Four interview. Source allegedly being this interview for the French weekly women's magazine Marie-Claire:
Tumblr media
[Source: https://www.marieclaire.fr/caitriona-balfe-rencontre-interview-coulisses-informations-saison-finale-8-outlander-the-amateur,1493219.asp - 11 April 2025]
Except... she never said what BIF's non existent knowledge of French, offered as a legit translation and sarcastically commented upon:
Tumblr media
I will translate, if you allow me:
'Her husband did not recognize her in this new role
The actress, who was 'very excited to play this deep and complex woman' and 'to work with Rami' Malek, who plays a brilliant CIA cryptographer who considers her as his ally and his moral counterpart, was also able to persuade her own husband. 'He discovered the movie at the preview screening and he confessed he did not notice it was me, Inquiline, in the first scene where I hit the screen. I take that as a great compliment', she quips with a smile, when we ask her what is the most beautiful compliment she ever got for this new role''
So she did not lie to BBC Four's Nuala McGovern, because an 'avant-première' is just a false friend in French, Google Translate is not really able to recognize as such. It means:
Tumblr media
[Source: https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/french-english/avant-premi%C3%A8re]
It means 'preview showing/screening'. Not premiere, hence the 'avant-' prefix: it means 'before' in French.
Avant-première. Before the premiere. -> Peel your eyes on this and eat crow, darling
Something we know happened on March 30, 2025. Not the next day, when @asilookedupatthestars-blog-blog thought, in all good faith, she saw McGill in front of the Leicester Square cinema:
Tumblr media
[Source: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/caitr%C3%ADona-balfe-and-laurence-fishburne-attend-a-special-news-photo/2207642520?adppopup=true]
As for the 'compliment', well, well, well (ROFLMAO) ...
As far as I know, Inquiline looks like this in that movie, and consistently so:
Tumblr media
[Source: https://uk.news.yahoo.com/exclusive-caitr-ona-balfe-reveals-111200469.html?]
You can't say there is a stark difference from real life C, like for example...
Count László de Almásy before the accident...
Tumblr media
and...
Tumblr media
...Count László de Almásy after the accident. Yes, The English Patient, one of my top 5 movies ever. I am a huge fan of Ralph Fiennes and yet, I did not recognize him, when the first scene he appears in that movie hit the screen.
But I never met Ralph Fiennes in real life, only his Doppelgänger of sorts (a.k.a Someone). The very Someone who, believe me, I would immediately recognize on the Maracanã stadium filled to the brim. For obvious reasons, mind you, and despite anything else.
So yeah, I never met Fiennes in real life, let alone pretended I was married to him. Apparently not a joy, either - but hey, stick to the work, not the person, right?
Color me confused. 'The husband' doesn't see her enough? Is she that forgettable? Or is it such an OTT (fabricated?) compliment, that can easily backfire? And in my book, it did.
Because it is important for Caitriona Mary Balfe to be perceived as a 'serious actress' in France. For many, many reasons. But yes, France - it just had to be there and believe me, I bet people in the know probably had a good laugh at what can ironically be construed as her endearing, sentimental clumsiness.
But the most important thing is still this one: a French 'avant-première' is never an English 'premiere'.
And that makes all the difference between a superficial idiot and all the rest.

A List of Gender Terms !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I disappeared for 2 months, but I finally completed this project! :D (Though I've been making some random posts talking about it, so it's not like I was really gone, or what I was working on wasn't obvious.)
It started off as me having trouble keeping track of a couple gender terms (and also not knowing they existed before, since I've never really seen people talk about them), then I thought I should make a list, and if I was going to do that I might as well post it to help other people too. Which I started out trying to make that list on Tumblr, but I found it too limiting so I moved to google docs, which I also found too limiting (I just couldn't achieve my vision, if you will), and now I know html and css.
As usual, I kinda overdid it, but I think I should be a little proud of myself. I had 0 knowledge of html and css, and 2 months later I've made my own website. (I could have made it much quicker, but I often had to take breaks, a bit overwhelmed by all that new stuff.)
Tumblr media
Anyways, it has a ton of terms on there.
I have sections for nonbinary, abinary, midbinary, atrinary, midtrinary, androgyne, agender, neutrois, maverique, ilyagender, aporagender, outherine, kenochoric, and xenogender.
For 7 categories (sex terms, adult, general term, child, gender quality, gender-quality-in-nature genders, and spectrum / -iagender spectrum).
And they all have sources on both Archive Today, Wayback Machine, and if still existing, the original post too. (At least to the best of my abilities, and there are a couple of exceptions that I couldn't figure out.)
Tumblr media
I did put effort into this, but it's possible I missed something. So if I made a mistake anywhere, or if anyone has any extra information to add on, or if you just have some comments, you can tell me. My ask box is open, but comments on this post would probably be fine too.
Also, I checked on a couple of different browsers, mobile too, and read up on web accessibility and checked and all that (I tried using a screen reader, I'm not a pro at it though, so it's possible I may have missed something obvious), so I hope the website itself is useable. But if there's any bugs there, just tell me (it'll be appreciated).
Tumblr media
I'm also thinking of making another compilation, but for flags (for all of the terms listed here), and maybe orientations too, but maybe later haha
I also don't know how to write a image id for the top picture, if anyone wants to write to one I'll add it.
-
Below the cut is a short little video scrolling through the site.

Hi!! I wanted to say that I loved reading about your journey of creating a personal website. I'm still unsure between Vercel and Netlify. I have a small question to ask. See, one of the reasons I want to make a website is to archive drawings and journal/sketchbook. Would you have any tips for creating an area on my website just for the diary/journal, which has tags, files for each entry, etc.?
Bello!
Tumblr media
Really happy to hear about your interest in websites! I want everyone to make their own site so I don't have to log into social media and get instant tummyaches ♥
Vercel vs Netlify: I think I settled on Vercel for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I just made a site on Netlify, then tested on Vercel, and now I have like 5 websites on Vercel so I just kept using it LOL. I'm sure a more tech-savvy person would know the difference - I think they have certain integrations with specific programs.
Creating a diary or journal with tags:
There's a couple of different ways you can do that, with different levels of work needed.
you got me yapping again:
This sadgrl tutorial might be outdated and may or may not work, but explains the process better than I can.
Easiest: make a journal on Dreamwidth, or another blogging site (wordpress??) that allows easy tags and RSS feed, and embed that RSS feed onto your site.
This requires almost no HTML set-up, and the easiest to organize tags, but you don't truly have the data on your own site since it's just embedded.
When I snuck into a web design class at college, this was one of the methods that the professor used for a blog within a portfolio site LOL.
Shit like wordpress is what a LOT of ~professional~ sites do for their blog section. They code it separately from the main site haha. It's the most popular thing, but not necessarily the best. And wait til you read on what the CEO of wordpress has been having meltdowns about... he owns tumblr too!
It's made with a tutorial for Neocities if that's what you use.
Medium: Set up zonelets.
It will require some HTML and JS editing, but will help automate making headers/footers for each page of a blog.
I've never used it myself, but I see other people speak highly of it.
HARD FOR ME CUZ I'M A GORILLA: I believe a lot of professional web devs will slap your face with their coding cock until you use a static site generator (SSG) to make your site.
You will need some coding knowledge to set up the tagging system since it doesn't come with it enabled by default. But it's made explicitly to be an alternative to big Static Site Generators which are...
It requires some more intimidating knowledge, because it's a lot of scripts that turn files that are not HTML/CSS/JS into plain HTML.
Also you have to use the command line, and that doesn't come with buttons that tell you what you can do. You have to copy/paste all that shit or memorize the code to 'dev build astro' and it all looks silly.
I've used Eleventy, and now am using Astro. Other people use Hugo or Jekyll or some other stuff with crazy names like Glup Shitto. I hate all these sites cuz none of the words mean anything to me. This is a common theme for me and tech. I don't know what NODES or CONTENT or ISLANDS are!!!
I had the most success attempting to learn how to use a SSG by downloading a template and altering it with github + VScodium. Here's the template page for Astro. You click on a theme you like, and it takes you to its github page. (If you don't want to use evil Microsoft stuff sorry. Skip this entire section.) Follow the instructions on the page for "forking" the glup shitto. When it tells you to run commands, I run those commands through the terminal window in VScodium. These tutorials never tell you what these commands do cuz they assume you already know. Usually those commands automatically install the files you need onto your computer, and create the final files.
You can see my wip here for a "tag system" that SHOULD show members of a web listing haha but I don't know what I'm doing and I have a reading disorder AND don't know cumputer good.
THEORETICALLY this will be the simplest and easiest way to maintain tags and files, because after you set it up you just have to write the "content" of the blog page. And you don't have to set up the header/footer ever again. I see the vision, and potential, but I am not there yet when it takes me 5 hours a day to figure out what any of the words in the documentation mean and I don't want to ask an actual tech person cuz they will be like 'obviously just press the Blip on the Repository and then Suck My Ass in the command line".
(side note I haven't updated fujofans in like a year cuz I'm struggling with this part to make updating easier).
Con: the final HTML/CSS code is really ugly if it's "minified", and a lot of themes use """"""professional"""""" CSS libraries like Bootstrap and Tailwind that I honestly think are ugly cuz that's what every fuckin' tech website uses to style their pages and make them look Professional and Minimalist with stupid code like style="500-w dark-gray-balls D-cup-bra" on every single element. Even Toyhouse uses Bootstrap. Eugh!
But maybe you're smarter than me and can wrangle these things better!
That was really long. Woops. I hope you can slug through this wall of text and find something helpful. Feel free to email me if you have any more specific questions. I may or may not be helpful.
If someone else sees this and has better suggestions for making BLOGS, please chime in. I'm begging you.

I've been itching to dive into something totally new and outside of my usual web dev comfort zone! After brainstorming for a while, I finally landed on a brilliant new project idea: building my very own desktop widget~!
Now, full disclosure—I have zero idea where to even start when it comes to programming a widget, but that’s where the fun comes in, right? I’m all about learning new things (I have an addiction to studying so…)~!
In this post however, I’ll be sharing my initial ideas for the widget and brainstorming what tech stack might bring this amazing idea to life~!
Prior knowledge on desktop widgets?
All I know is that they stick to the desktop area and some even always in front of the other windows. That’s all I know!
Widget Idea
So, the project idea I’ve chosen is something simple, just so I can get used to making widgets: a notepad. But, it’s not just any plain notepad widget—it’s going to have an aesthetic color scheme! (I know, pretty cool, right?) I really wanted to keep things basic for this first project.
The inspiration actually came from a Pinterest pin that I saved. I think the design is originally from a color palette generator website, but I want to take that concept and turn it into an actual desktop widget. Thus this project was born!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tech Stack
Alright, I lied—I'm not entirely stepping out of my comfort zone for this one! I'll be using ReactJS, a technology I’m super comfortable with and absolutely love. But to keep things fresh and challenging, I’m diving into something new as well!
After researching (thank you, ChatGPT, Google, and YouTube), I found out there are plenty of ways to build a desktop application, or in this case, a widget. You can go with WinForms, WPF, Tauri (Rust), Qt, and others. But I wanted to stick closer to JavaScript—specifically something I could pair with ReactJS. So, ElectronJS seemed like the best fit.
For this project, my tech stack will be:
ReactJS (JavaScript)
ElectronJS (JavaScript)
SCSS (for those extra styling powers)
HTML (obviously)
Visual Studio Code (with a lovely brown theme 🧸)
Toward the end of the project, I’ll also explore how to package the widget so people can download and install it on their own computers, and how to store the notes locally!
Finally
As I post this I am going to start the project so I will soon post updates! (This is where I fail…!)

.。*♡ A/N: Silly and self Indulgent scenario that's been living in my head since I've started learning coding like javascript and html awhile ago, like pls let Idia teach me, I'll listen to everything he has say. Or not. Probably not. I would probably be looking at him all the time like 👀💞.
Tumblr media
Coming from someone as quiet as Idia, people would think that he only hides inside his room and that only silence surrounds him. But that was far from true, Idia laughed, screamed or hummed all the time when he was safe and sound inside those comforting walls and, like now, his fingers tapped the keyboard keys frantically.
"What's that supposed to be?" You asked, pointing to a series of strange codes on Idia's dimly lit computer screen. How he could see with all the lights off, you didn't know. But at least, you now knew why he complained about his eyes hurting.
Idia replied without turning around, "They're called arrays. They're used to store more than one code inside a variable, Yuu-shi."
You made an understanding sound even though you didn't understand what that meant. You remembered a thing or two about your world's programming, but the memories were blurred and as today was an especially calm day, you decided to pull a chair close to his desk and sit next to Idia to watch him work. Maybe it would help to understand what those "arrays" were for if you could watch him, besides it was fun.
You noticed how his fingers trembled slightly against the keyboard and the ends of his hair turned pink at your sudden approach, but you preferred to spare him the embarrassment and just watch him create his codes. It was almost peaceful the sound of his fingers and his soft humming.
"That's an opening tag right there, right?" You pointed again not sure and he nodded.
"Yuu-shi..." He mumbled as if unsure of his proposal. Even though you're friends, he's too scared to voice his ideas sometimes and you don't force him to say anything while you wait for him to search for the right words. Finally after a few seconds Idia turns to you with a small smile on his face. "S-sit closer, you'll be able to see better that way. I can even explain what each code is for if that doesn't bore you."
That was his shy way of saying that he would like to have you around and that he didn't mind your questions, and you readily nodded, pulling the chair closer and resting your face in your hand. Idia kept working, fingers practicing typing over and over entire columns of tags and other codes that you gradually remembered the name.
"Yuu-shi, you never told me that you, uh, liked programming." He mutters uncertainly. But then a wide smile spreads across his lips and he looks at you sideways, laughing sinisterly. "But that means I can teach you everything I know, and after I've stuffed all possible coding knowledge into your little pretty head, Yuu-shi, you will evolve from an R card to a UR+."
You shudder comically, wondering if it was too late to run. But Idia's cool hand closes over your wrist and his slender fingers find their way to yours, lacing them together as he opens another page on his computer.
"Let's start with your lesson, Yuu-shi, and... And, uh... And if you get everything right, I have a reward in mind." Idia declares, a rosy blush taking over his face.
And truly how couldn't you deny him that?

So I've been working on a hurt/Comfort character exploration perry the platypus fic that I hinted at starting in the comments on my other fic "Debriefing" found here:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/63465448
And I sat down to work on a bit in it that I have been writing and deleting and reworking for several days now. I expected to add a sentence here or there. Delete a similar amount. Maybe fuck around with the formatting? Spend an hour or two on it as I wound down for bed y'know?
Guys. I just looked up and it has been 5 hours.
I have reworked the formatting and sentences throughout the entire fic, several times. I finally got closure on what was supposed to essentially be a set-up scene, the Hurt for my Hurt/Comfort fic needs, but ended up being like 2000 words and SEVERAL page breaks. My brother spent the last half hour psychoanalysing me and roasting me via pointing out that Freud was right (he is NOT), and this fic is 100% a product of my mommy/daddy/teacher/sibling issues. (That part is truer than I'd like to think about.) But. It's done and I am happy with it.
To achieve this, I have done a level of formatting which I'm not sure Ellipsus can port to Ao3. I might need to manually reformat it. Which would mean I need to create a skin. Which means I need to brush off my html and css knowledge which I 1) sucked at to begin with and 2) haven't used in over a decade and a half.
Now I'm vibrating with a need to figure this out, but I desperately need to sleep. I forgot how intense writing hyperfocus can get >.>;
And the fic isn't done. I still need to write the comfort part. Did you know the surname Karl is both German AND Scottish? I didn't and now I'm gonna end up diving into THAT too.

Recent pursuits of knowledge - Mid June
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Recently I've fallen into the typical academic rabbit hole where one thing leads to another and suddenly both your hands are full of more and more things to learn.
By a chance occurrence, a random google search led me to find a Maldivian scientific journal. Since my male audacity (I'm a girl, btw) has long convinced me that I'm in fact capable of anything and everything, I decided I would do a little research and try to publish it in the little time I have before I start medical school. (Which, by the way, is already less than 2 months.)
As it goes, dominoes fell, one by one. First I thought of doing a small study on medicinal herbs of the nation. Something along the lines of testing the effectiveness of 'Dhivehi beys'. However, a little voice in the back of my head would not stop whispering in my ear, begging me to try doing one about dreams. At this point in time, I had no idea what exactly I was looking for. I presented this barely-thought-out plan to my dear friend. She was on board, and she also shared that she also thought dreams were a lot more interesting of a subject than medicinal herbs.
So with a theme in mind, I began looking into past research and well established theories on our subject of study. I learnt quite a few interesting things about Bion's dream theory. Unfortunately, in the midst of preparing our google doc, something else caught my eye. Having shared the google doc containing everything I had found at that point with my friend, I decided to start learning the programming language R. I told myself it would prove to be useful in our study. (For reference, I had begun this adventure at around 10 PM, it was now 2 AM.)
Having learnt all the fundamentals and syntax of the language, I finally went to sleep at 4 AM. Next morning, I slept in. However, as soon as I woke up, I did some more reading on dreams and updates our shared google doc. After begging my friend to please read the damn document, I started working on R again.
For the next few days, I did not do any more reading on dreams. I have since forgotten about the matter if I'm being completely honest. On the other hand, I had found it much more interesting to tinker with R, trying out the different graphical features R had to offer.
You would think I stuck with perfecting R, and would have learnt it to some degree by now, but you could not possibly be more wrong because I am plagued by my interest in way too many things. A jack of all trades, a master of none. I am a museum of abandoned hobbies. R did not escape this cruel fate, because as luck would have it, I soon rediscovered my love for python.
I downloaded python and pygame. It was as if I had reconnected with an old friend.
I am contemplating on whether I should mention my brief encounter with html and css. Some of the very first languages I learnt. I started a simple and goal-less project website as I waited for python to install. It seems useless to mention as this only lasted 5 minutes - or maybe even less.
Today, it's been a week since all of this has occurred. And today, I have no interest in any of these. Which is why I painted today. I am a museum of abandoned hobbies, and sometimes I revisit my old friends.

I'm thrilled to share that I recently completed the SheCodes Basic workshop and earned my certificate! 🎉 This immersive online program provided such a great introduction to web development concepts and skills.
Over the workshop, I gained so much useful knowledge about HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The hands-on coding challenges let me apply what I was learning in a practical way. I'm proud of all the web pages, interactions and animations I coded from scratch!
I'll be starting the SheCodes Plus where we'll dive deeper into HTML. CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap and more! Although I still can't decide if I want to be a Frontend Developer or go the Fullstack way😑.
Here is a link to my final Basic project:

I want to make a forum website for discussion of this game so badly. I don't want everything I do to be tied down mainly to one site that might end up gone one day (am currently setting up a system of uploading to multiple places without forgetting to because I would like to do so more I am just so used to being on this site specifically a lot as a habit). I also just like the format of forums for discussion over social media or chats like discord. The community is large enough that it wouldn't be likely to die off completely even if it's slow but small enough that it wouldn't be overwhelming for me to moderate. And I feel very confident that I could at least moderate my own website better than Tumblr moderates theirs LOL, not that it's a very high bar to beat. Forums and their moderation historically have not been perfect but I've been in enough ones that were very good during their lifetime in contrast to the ones that weren't so much that I think I've gathered a decent idea of how I'd like to run one.
There are a few general Final Fantasy forums out there but they tend to get overshadowed by the newer games, which is understandable because they are also good but makes it hard to find any footing for four freaks like me there, especially when a lot of the pre-7 games just get kind of lumped together (which again I also enjoy them but c'mon). There's a lot more to FFIV than meets the eye that I don't often see as much in more generalized spaces (it is possible that I just haven't looked hard enough or in the right ones, to be fair), especially to the very creative people I've witnessed over the years. There are at least 2 different expansive AU stories in the form of comics I've come across by different authors. There are OC creators. There are different fan theories and interpretations of the story. And all the incredible art and writing I've seen from people around the world!
It is a project I would like to undertake in the future, however I will need to get a lot better at website building since my HTML knowledge is very basic. With enough time and trial and error I probably could though. Am only worried about some of the more ambitious features I would like to implement but if I can't do those perhaps I could find easier ways of meeting the same needs or functions. I will give updates as this project comes along and evolves.

finished my profiles for medic and sniper for my bushmedicine fic series, thou giveth fever! ^u^ this covers some vague backstory and general info about them, and fun lil moodboards! html credit
very long text version under the cut!
Michael "Mick" Mundy
pronouns: he/him
dob: January 19th
country of origin: Australia
mercenary alias: Sniper
current employer: TF Industries (RED)
primary inventory
Sniper rifle (stock), SMG, kukri (razorback and cozy camper used intermittently). Carries a thermos for coffee and small snacks (jerky, granola bar, etc). Keeps herbs for improvised healing. Wears shooting glasses with prescriptions in them; nearsighted.
fighting style
Ideally prefers long distance [sniper rifle], also adept at close-range combat [kukri]. Would rather fight alone, moving from vantage point to vantage point. Assists team by calling out incoming BLUs from respawn and taking out flanking enemies.
hobbies
taxidermy, grilling, canning/preserving, botany, playing saxophone, bar games (billiards, darts, shuffleboard), hunting, bonding with his owl, horseback riding, reading (poetry, non-fiction, romance), sharpshooting, journaling, leatherworking
Prefers being on his own and doesn't like to rely on others, but will gladly lend a helping hand if you ask him. He is constantly honing his skills and places a lot of personal value on how useful he is to those around him. Sniper is sexually repressed and emotionally immature, absolutely awful at processing and understanding his own feelings.
height: 6'3" (190.5 cm)
build: "dad" body
hair: brown (mullet)
eyes: light brown
background; The following is a mix of my own personal headcanons, canon events, and my interpretation of them. This feeds into my fic series, Thou Giveth Fever.
life before Teufort (pre-game or comic events)
Sniper grew up with his parents in the Australian bush and has spent his life honing his skills as a hunter of man and beast alike. Had a strained relationship with his parents for most of his life after leaving home to work as an assassin (later mercenary). Grew up as a social outcast and prefers working alone to this day. Devotes himself completely to his work and cared little for establishing relationships (romantic or platonic) while on his travels, keeping to himself and living in a custom-converted camper van that his father had given him before he left home.
Took up big-game hunting and taxidermy as side hustles between bigger jobs and has a lot of respect for life and death. Educated himself on being a survivalist (building upon what his father had taught him growing up in an unforgiving rural area) and amassing a large knowledge of herbal remedies and tactics that helped him become the efficient hunter he is today.
employment with RED team (events of Team Fortress 2)
Works with his team by pinning and picking off BLU mercenaries at choke points and calling out enemy positions to his teammates. Moves from tower to tower as matches progress and dislikes being on the ground, but will go where he needs to in order to get the job done. Doesn't mind getting his hands dirty for the sake of the job and will do so without complaints.
Originally reluctant to join a mercenary team, Sniper eventually grew to enjoy the company of all of his coworkers, specifically Engineer, Demoman, and Spy, along with Scout. They drink together in their off time, often having to drag Sniper out of his van to do so, but he's thankful that they do. When he's not in the mood for being social (most of the time), he can be found in his camper van, or outside bonding with his Western Screech-Owl, Ser Hootsalot.
after the team's disbanding (during - post-comics)
Sniper discovers that he's been adopted and is swiftly betrayed by his biological parents. He is fatally shot by Classic Team's Sniper and was brought back to their base, where he bled out and died. He [dreamed, hallucinated] that he finally gets his parents' blessing, expressing his want to stay with them in heaven. They tell him that he's still got a lot of people that need taking care of, and Sniper wakes up on Medic's operating table, having been brought back to life by the doctor.
After the team gets back together, Sniper is still left to deal with his family home after the death of his parents (having been interrupted by Miss Pauling recruiting his help in locating Australium) and, while unbothered by the revival itself, struggles with what to do with himself when he had been ready to die and then was... denied that. By a teammate who he seldom ever spoke to, who was working with the enemy at the time, no less!
-------
Dr. Ludwig
pronouns: he/him
dob: June 23rd
country of origin: Germany
mercenary alias: Medic
current employer: TF Industries (RED)
primary inventory
Medigun, syringe gun, ubersaw. Has no other medical supplies on hand other than his medigun and prefers to travel light. Carries a notepad and pen, and a water bottle to stay hydrated. Always wears his glasses.
fighting style
Best in close-knit groups or with powerhouse classes. Is deceptively athletic and can keep up with any teammate with ease. Sadistic and loves getting his hands dirty! Very capable and physically strong.
hobbies
baking, watching movies, learning new things, botany, reading (non-fiction), tending to his doves, practicing medicine, playing violin or accordion, sewing, listening to classical music, equestrian dressage
Enjoys working as a team and doesn't mind giving assistance when needed. Is a complete and total wildcard; likes being underestimated and knowing his own strength. Medic knows (and values) his own worth and has no problem letting others know that they need him, not the other way around. Very emotionally in-touch with himself.
height: 6'2" (187 cm)
build: burly

background; The following is a mix of my own personal headcanons, canon events, and my interpretation of them. This feeds into my fic series, Thou Giveth Fever.
life before Teufort (pre-game or comic events)
Medic was an only child born to a well-off family in Germany. Not much is known about his past, and he likes it that way! He was a rebellious, unruly child who was impossible to contain, being passionate about things that personally interested him, and very little else. He cared for his parents, but never found himself missing them when he'd left home, or when they passed. Charismatic even in his youth, he had no trouble getting what he wanted, though seldom ever found himself caring about the emotional aspect of relationships, romantic or platonic. He wanted to do what he wanted, when he wanted, and had no desire to get swept up in people!
Devoting himself to his own strange, morally dubious scientific endeavors, Medic found himself signing on to work for Teufort Industries so that he could further develop what he called Uber science on the company's dime, while being given willing-and-eager test subjects for his every medical whim.
employment with RED team (events of Team Fortress 2)
Naturally, Medic spends most of his time conducting research on the science of his uber technology. He isn't a doctor because he has a medical license or for some higher-calling to help the sick and needy... he's in it for himself and his own gain, first and foremost! That doesn't mean he's heartless; Medic can be kind and sensitive, and even with his lack of social graces (despite what he'll tell you!), his teammates still regard him as a good coworker, even if they don't know much about him. You'll never know which side of Medic you'll get, and if you want consistent healing, it's best to be good to him; he can hold one hell of a grudge!
There's nobody's company that he cherishes more than his best friend Archimedes, a dove that he stole and would be the first member of his small dule. The good doctor is never focusing on only one thing at a time, and is quite the workaholic; nothing brings him more pleasure than medicine! In his (very little) spare time, he enjoys having tea and conversation with his best friend Heavy, and baking pastries and breads! Likes keeping his hands busy and his mind sharp!
after the team's disbanding (during - post-comics)
When RED team disbanded, Medic was unfazed and quickly sought out another means of funding his experiments. Such was life as a scientist! As it turned out, Classic Team was in need of a Medic and hired him on full-time, all expenses paid. If he healed them, they were content to leave him to his devices in his free time... whatever he got into, they were happy to be none the wiser. It was thanks to this carelessness that he was able to find Sniper's body after he'd been killed by Classic Sniper, quickly beginning to revive him.
1.3 billion dollars and twelve hours later, Sniper was alive and well again! Truly a medical miracle! Medic dubs him as his greatest achievement and distracts an interrupting Classic Heavy so that Sniper can escape and meet up with the rest of the team. When the mercenaries all returned to Teufort, things resumed as normal, though Medic found himself wondering if his greatest achievement was having any troubles readjusting to life after, well, death. He wanted to pry (he's very nosy, after all!), but decided to leave it be; if Sniper wanted to discuss something with him, he supposed he knew where to find him.

Hey, Here's something I learned for creating my tumblr bio.
So, in current times, I'm a little apprehensive to say anything too searchable in my bio such as that I'm trans. So I didn't want to use the official emoji. But I wanted the flag there for humans to see. I have very limited knowledge of html and css but I got this to work. I embedded the image data it's self into the html code. Usually images are linked, and the address is stated in the html, but that would require uploading the image somewhere and tumblr linking to it even when my not viewing it within my tumblr themed page.
So here's what I did. First I created a file in photoshop that is 8×5 pixels. I painted it with the colors of the trans flag. As tumblr limits how many characters you can put in your bio, the smaller the image the better. As the flag is the same left to right, I reduced it to 1×5 px. Then I saved it as a gif to the desktop.
I'm sure this is easy to do on a Windows or Linux computer too but on a Mac, open the Terminal app. *See alternative option below. type:
cd desktop
Then type: (include the single space at the end after txt)
base64 -i imagename.gif -o imagename.gif.txt
It'll export a file on the desktop with a code in it that looks something like this:
R0lGODlhAQAFAKIAANUtAP+aVv///9NipKMCYgAAAAAAAAAAACH/C05FVFNDQVBFMi4wAwEAAAAh+QQEAAAAACwAAAAAAQAFAAADBAghQwkAOw==
Add the image into the html with a usual:
<img src="#" alt="text" title="text"
Replace the # with this code and the image data:
data:image/png;base64,
Add the inline css to size and position it.
style="image-rendering: pixelated; height: .8em; width: 1.2em; display: inline; position: relative; top: -.15em;">
The final html code looks like this: (remove the $, its there to let you see the code without it rendering the image)
<$img src="data:image/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQAFAKIAAFvO+tewxfWpuPvd4////wAAAAAAAAAAACH/C05FVFNDQVBFMi4wAwEAAAAh+QQEAAAAACwAAAAAAQAFAAADBAhCAgkAOw==" alt="TF" title="TF" style="image-rendering: pixelated; height: .8em; width: 1.2em; display: inline; position: relative; top: -.15em;">
So that's it. It doesn't work in posts, only a tumblr bio or a webpage of your own. Let me know if it works for you and I'll try to help if you run into trouble.
BTW, tumblr only allows up to 2000 characters including spaces in your bio.
Here are some references and additional information that I used to create this.

Hello Tumblr I'm back with some updates of my coding journey
I got a little ill so i was doing everything in a listless manner but still i proceeded to learn new things. And currently I am feeling motivated to continue progressing in that field even more
Tumblr media
In the last 10 days I: - Finished Beginner CSS Course by Dave Gray (i am obsessed with his tutorials lol) - Revised HTML basics one more time - Played around on my foolish website with the only purpose of practicing new knowledge (i made this HTML about cats with the help of freecodecamp and reused it again to practice CSS basics so don't judge it i know it's cringy af but at least it works and) - And i finally started JavaScript and it's super complicated so i need much more time to proceed it to draw any conclusions
and some small off topic... i was watching some videos on YT about coding languages etc and I was reminded that I actually kinda(?) had Pascal basics in the middle school (even tho i hardly remember anything since it was more than a decade ago)
so a question for everyone have you had Pascal at school and does anyone know is it used for anything nowadays or it remains as a thing of the past?
Tumblr media
see you in ten days, nya if you started cringy proceed to be cringy with a pride till the end

had an excuse to list a few physical books I love for furthering your art practice
so it seemed worthwhile to crosspost in case anyone else was interested!
For just getting the painting-studies-from-life fire lit under you, I recommend Hawthorne on Painting : https://store.doverpublications.com/0486318745.html -- it's a collection of lecture notes from the cape cod school of art, and there's no pictures, and that seems so counter-intuitive, but the sheer passion for light and colour that shines through honestly is really inspiring. The core concept I took from it is that a painting study doesn't require expert knowledge of anatomy, perspective, structure etc; just a passion for seeing colour, and then putting the right colour down in the right shaped mark in the right place; a simple and infinitely difficult skill to learn and a great way to get out of your own head when the subject matter feels overwhelming. It's a very affordable little pocket-sized book and you can likely track down a used version as it's been a classic for a long time.
For more visual instruction, another classic-and-affordable book I have used to the point of disrepair is Jack Hamm's Drawing Scenery: Landscapes and Seascapes : https://www.penguinrandomhouse.ca/books/352897/drawing-scenery-seascapes-and-landscapes-by-jack-hamm/9780399508066 -- it starts with the bare bones of composition, but it goes into amazing detail on all sorts of elements of scenery from trees to skies to lighting and more. I keep his spread of Types of Clouds bookmarked for easy reference!
And for the fun of discovery and clear, direct instruction, I've really liked the Think When You Draw books : http://theetheringtonbrothers.blogspot.com/ -- while this isn't my personal visual style, they have such great, punchy, memorable instruction on such a huge, wide array of subjects, it's been a great tool to get me over the "okay but cars/bikes/horses/spaceships are HARD" etc threshold!
And finally for figure drawing, the book that really unlocked drawing people for me was Ron Tiner's Figure Drawing Without a Model : https://www.scribd.com/doc/103174602/Ron-Tiner-Figure-Drawing-Without-a-Model -- he covers a few different mental models of the figure to help build it from the ground up in your mind, and he connects these models very clearly to real life anatomy, drawing from life, and character design. Again, not a visual style I personally pursue, but immensely useful concepts that I still use today, 24 or so years after I first read this book, whenever I draw without a reference.
And I always recommend hitting up a used bookshop or two for some collections of art that inspires you -- even if it isn't your chosen medium, or subject matter, or style, if it gets your brain running then why not spend some time with it and see what you can get out of the book? Personally I always come back to my collections of Frank Frazetta, Rodney Matthews, Edward Hopper, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and Caravaggio artwork, and most of those were random used bookshop discoveries.
Hope there's something interesting amongst this list for you, and please reply/repost with your favs as well!

I want to formally write up my digital note-taking system as someone with autism and ADHD at some point, complete with screenshots. I've always been trying to reduce it and simplify it but I've accepted that it's always going to be difficult for other people to implement because I'm obsessed with organization and have been refining the system over years.
I've been reading Building a Second Brain by Tiago Forte and have loosely adapted the PARA concept (Projects, Areas, Resource, Archives). I think it's brilliant to make notes more actionable. I want to organize such that it's easier to access notes most useful to me, and less-relevant-and-immediately-actionable notes like resources and finished projects are kept but neatly put away for later use and not cluttering up the space.
Basically, most of my personal and reference notes are in Notion. There I keep a list of things like my goals, my spending, my project planning, and reference materials I've collected over the years related to things like health, career development, recipes, etc.
However, Notion is a clunky experience on mobile. There is also no offline support - well, not proper offline support, anyway. That's because it's fundamentally a web application.
For quick notes I take on the go, reminders, and shopping lists, I use Google Keep. I can't understate how I haven't found a better app for this. Imagine a dynamic sticky notes board that syncs across devices and is easy to add and remove from. I can send notes to myself in the future in less than a minute and it basically runs my life. Every so often, I copy down important notes from Google Keep into Notion. I think basically everyone should use Google Keep, but especially for people with ADHD. Often we think of things in the moment, but they aren't relevant. I always jot down something I remember and send a reminder to myself when I can take action with it.
Finally, as much as I think Notion is great for note-taking, I actually use Obsidian for any deeper knowledge databases. I'm going to experiment and use Obsidian as my main school notes hub when I go back to school. I have a personal Obsidian wiki for programming. Obsidian is essentially offline Notion with less emphasis on databases. The linking between pages and seeing a map of how concepts are related to one another is extremely powerful.
And although I don't use it as often, I really like Notability on my iPad with an Apple Pencil. I use it for making digitized diagrams and as a study tool. The act of writing over typing codifies things in my memory.
I used to use Microsoft OneNote a lot. I miss when it was free. I appreciated how flexible it was. I used a tablet to write directly on the pages. However, I found that I hated formatting in it over time, and I preferred using Markdown as it's more universal. (Even my resume is written in LaTeX. I used to code every assignment in HTML/CSS because I wanted perfect formatting.) Overall, OneNote was clunky and difficult to keep consistently formatted.
On top of my digital system, I have a physical bullet journal and whiteboards. I think having multiple spaces that remind of of my tasks and ideas and to jot them down, and then moving them around helps me remember them. I could streamline the process a bit, but I really don't like compromising physical note-taking. I'm a firm believer in physical and non-cloud backups of information. I don't want to put all of my eggs in one basket and rely on Internet infrastructure. I also want to feel grounded. There are some hybrid digital/physical notebooks I might look into to keep the process simple, but I've been working with this system fine.
