Surprise, I can make serious art actually! The composition for this one entered my brain and I just had to make it a reality. I almost never make fully rendered pieces, so this was a fun challenge! They weren’t lying about how obsessing over a fictional character will Do Things to your art.

Garmadon is evil, or so Wu claims. He mostly steals shipments of tea and throws very loud dance parties, but Wu keeps warning of the real danger. Lloyd keeps losing. Or rather, he wins, the ninja win, because Garmadon and his goons pity them. They don't want to harm the boss's son, and the boss doesn't want to hurt the kid either. No matter what field they choose, as a team or individually, singing, dancing, instruments, theater, they always lose. Garmadon kicks them out of the Party Volcano. Wu gives more warnings.

The problem isn't not stopping Garmadon. The problem is the frustration. Lloyd is talented enough, works much harder than the rest, and yet... he's not exactly outstanding. All of the other ninjas can beat him at nearly anything. Lloyd practises harder than everybody else and yet, he walks on stage, and... it's like he's not even there to be honest. He does his things, he's good and all, but he isn't remarkable. Looking for a solution was also frustrating... until they found it.

Wu's house is full of junk. Whatever doesn't fit and isn't needed in the studio goes to his house, shoved in a cramped room with broken blinds to be forgotten about. And Wu was in a spring cleaning mood, so he went to the market the whole day, and the ninja cleaned, of course. Boxes and boxes and boxes of tapes. Wu records everything. every single rehearsal. And the bastard to this day still uses tapes. As if both the studio and his house aren't already filled to the brim with them. There's an entire wall of huge, heavy boxes filled with tapes, and at some point they put one in the old VCR, connected to the old, dusty TV.

It's a rehearsal recording, much like how Wu records theirs. But it immediately draws them in. Nothing is happening yet, but a kid just walked on stage. Not performing, walked on the stage as wu's voice hurried him to come back and practice again, he put down a water bottle, nothing was happening. but for some reason the tape still kept their eyes on the screen, inexplicable really. And then he started. There were no lights, the sound was kind of shitty, into the mic, bouncing off the walls and back into the mic, there was nothing on the stage, and yet... it was one of the best, most engaging, most hypnotising performances any of them had ever seen. All the background noise of people talking or moving things halted the moment he started. It was like magic. This is it. This is the solution. If they find out who this is, maybe they could find him. Maybe he could help lloyd become The Green the way he was supposed to.

They take it out of the VCR when the performance ends. They check the date. 9 months before Cole left the dance school for good to come work with wu. Cole remembered being given an already furnished room, another student who left, was what wu said. Cole had found it weird that all the clothes were still there, that it didnt have all that much dust, but he didnt question it. They ask Wu. They say they want to find him. And Wu tells them ABSOLUTELY NOT. He talks about Morro. Morro, who was his biggest regret. Morro, who was arrogant, and mean, morro, who was power hungry, who let it consume him and turn him evil. Morro who ran away after being told he couldnt be the Green, saying he'd prove himself, prove that he could, and never came back. They should not seek Morro, he said.

Well, they did. Ninjago City's underworld was full of talents, and from Wu's story it's likely Morro ran back there, or tried to make a living there without being found. And this is how they meet all the characters, the serpentine, the different elemental masters, here performers. They hear of a talent who can spit out verses faster than anyone has ever seen, who can dance like a sped up video, who's unbeatable. They battle, they defeat him, they get better, make a friend or an enemy. And get told of someone else, stronger, who's this and that, and the next night they go seeking them. They meet skylor. they meet chen. They get in a tournament that goes on at night, when they go, after they work with wu by day. But they never find him...

Skylor gives them tips often. After all, she's the new boss of the underworld of ninjago city. And one time she comes up with a rumour. people leaving cities at night in hundreds to one of those illegal night cities, those where people duel illegally with no rules or ettiquete, where people play whatever songs or plays they want regardless of consequences. And that there is Someone, not every night, some nights, no one knows when. People are hypnotized, as if theyre in a trance, and they stay, the entire surroundings are full of people who refuse to leave, because maybe that night the Someone will be there, maybe on the next one, on the one after. They revolve around the town like the moon pulled by earth's gravity.

And that's how they know they found him.
