The Power of Comedy: Finding Light in the Darkness
Tumblr media
Laughter has an incredible way of lifting the soul, especially when life feels heavy. I’ve always known that comedy can be a great escape, but last night, I truly felt its power in a way that reminded me why it’s so important.
I had the privilege of seeing John Shuttleworth live with a loyal and supportive friend of over 25 years, and I can honestly say it was exactly what I needed. It wasn’t just about the jokes or the music—it was the shared experience of laughter, the kind that sneaks up on you and has you crying with joy. For a couple of hours, any worries or low feelings melted away, replaced by pure, simple fun.
Life can be unpredictable, and no matter how strong or positive I try to be, there are days when I feel low. In those moments, it’s easy to withdraw and let the weight of my thoughts settle in. But last night reminded me that laughter isn’t just a distraction—it’s a form of release.
Looking around the room, I realised that every person there was laughing for their own reasons. Many of them had probably had a tough day, a hard week, maybe even a difficult year or life. Yet, for that time, we were all connected by humour, sharing something uplifting. Comedy has this incredible way of uniting people, no matter what they’re going through. In that moment, it didn’t matter what worries or burdens we had walked in with—what mattered was that we were laughing together, and that in itself felt like healing.
John Shuttleworth’s dry wit and quirky charm were the perfect antidote. His observations on everyday life, set to his unmistakable keyboard melodies, had the entire audience in stitches. And as I sat there laughing, I realised how important these moments are—how they bring people together, lift spirits, and create memories that linger far beyond the final punchline.
A good laugh can take the edge off even the heaviest thoughts, making things feel a little less overwhelming. Sharing laughter with a friend deepens bonds and reminds me that I’m not alone. Sometimes, all it takes is one comedy gig, one funny film, or one ridiculous joke to break the cycle of negativity and inject some much-needed joy.
I’m incredibly grateful for my friend, who knew exactly what I needed and made last night happen. Having someone who understands, who encourages moments of joy even when I might not seek them myself, is something I don’t take for granted.
Leaving the venue, I felt lighter. The worries I walked in with hadn’t magically disappeared, but they seemed smaller, less consuming. That’s the power of comedy. It doesn’t solve everything, but it gives you a break, a breather, a moment to remember that joy still exists—even on the hard days.
So, when life feels heavy, I’ll remind myself of last night. I’ll seek out laughter, surround myself with people who lift me up, and remember that sometimes, the best therapy is a keyboard-playing comic and a room full of people laughing together.

🌱 Cultivating Gratitude & Joy in the Here and Now 🌱
Tumblr media
There comes a time when being accountable for your own happiness becomes essential. Taking the time to understand your own traumas, habits, and attachment styles is what helps you grow and heal. And that process? It can be messy.
Growing up, I moved around constantly, which made me hyper-aware of reading the room—especially around adults. I learned (through childhood and my recent previous romantic relationship) that everything seemed to have a “double meaning.” Words felt like puzzles, actions became tests, and eventually, I became an over-thinker, a perfectionist, and a full-time analyzer. And if you know, you know how draining that can be.
But here’s the real shift that hit me recently: I’m done reading between the lines. I'm not a mind reader. Now, I take things at face value and meet people exactly where they’re at, reciprocating no more or less than what’s given. This simple act? It’s changing my life. I’m learning that time is precious, and no one owes me theirs. Every moment shared is a gift, and I want to savour it without expectation.
See, I used to have these huge expectations—not only of myself but of everyone around me. And when people didn’t live up to those images, I’d feel hurt or resentful. Now, I’m reframing that: people can’t let me down; only the versions I create of them can. And each day is a new page. I’m not the same person I was yesterday, and neither are they. That shift toward acceptance has given me space to enjoy the people in my life for who they are, right now.
So, here’s to practicing objectivity and relativity. 🌻
Objectivity is the practice of viewing situations, people, or information without bias, focusing on facts rather than personal feelings or opinions. It’s about seeing things as they are, without the influence of subjective emotions, assumptions, or expectations. Relativity acknowledges that perspectives, experiences, and values differ from person to person. It’s the understanding that context, relationships, and individual backgrounds shape how each person interprets a situation. It allows us to see things as they appear to others, embracing that there isn’t always a single “right” way to experience or respond to something.
Life feels lighter when you embrace the flow, when you release control over how others “should” behave, and instead focus on how their presence makes you feel.
I want joy, I want laughter, I want moments of real connection. Some people will be in our lives for a season, and that’s okay. It’s about knowing when the time shared feels fulfilling and when it doesn’t—and moving forward accordingly. Cultivating gratitude and joy, moment by moment, for ourselves, is where real happiness lives.

Second Chance Shaina Tranquilino August 4, 2024
Tumblr media
Lena had always been an artist at heart, though the world had dulled her once-bright spark. After years of struggling in the bustling city, she decided to retreat to her grandmother's old house in the countryside. The house, now hers after her grandmother’s passing, was a creaky, nostalgic haven filled with memories of childhood summers and the warm scent of baking bread. One rainy afternoon, in a quest for something to occupy her restless mind, Lena ventured into the attic. The wooden stairs groaned under her weight, and the musty air clung to her as she entered the dimly lit space. Dust motes floated lazily in the beams of light that pierced through the small, grimy window. She had come here before, but this time felt different—this time, she was searching for something she couldn’t quite name.
Rummaging through boxes of old clothes and forgotten knick-knacks, Lena’s hand brushed against something smooth and solid. Pulling it out, she uncovered a large canvas, covered in a protective cloth. Her heart quickened as she unveiled it.
The painting was half-finished, its vibrant strokes frozen in time. It depicted a serene, sunlit forest, but one side was incomplete, the colours fading into blankness. She immediately recognized her grandmother’s style—bold, expressive, and full of life. Her grandmother, also an artist, had been Lena’s greatest inspiration, always encouraging her to find beauty in the world.
A note was tucked into the corner of the frame, yellowed with age. Lena unfolded it carefully and read the elegant, familiar script:
"My dearest Lena,
I started this painting long ago, but never found the right way to finish it. Perhaps it is meant for you. Trust your heart and let your creativity flow.
With all my love, Grandma"
Tears welled in Lena’s eyes as she held the note close. Her grandmother had always believed in her, even when Lena had lost faith in herself. The unfinished painting felt like a bridge between the past and her uncertain future, a second chance to reconnect with her passion.
Determined, Lena set up her easel and gathered her paints. The next few days were a blur of colour and emotion. As she worked, memories of her grandmother filled her mind—her gentle guidance, her laughter, and the way her eyes sparkled with joy when she created something beautiful. Lena let these memories guide her brush, blending her own style with the remnants of her grandmother’s.
Each stroke of the brush was a revelation, not just of the painting, but of herself. She poured her soul into the canvas, finding new inspiration in the process. The forest scene came alive under her hand, the once-blank side blossoming into a riot of colours and textures. She added elements from her own life—a distant mountain, a winding path, a vibrant sunset—merging her journey with her grandmother’s vision.
When she finally stepped back, Lena was breathless. The painting was complete, a harmonious blend of past and present. It was a testament to her grandmother’s legacy and her own rediscovered passion. In finishing the painting, Lena had found her way back to the joy of creation, and in doing so, had grown in ways she hadn’t thought possible.

Embracing Simple Joys
A few weeks ago, I found myself pleasantly surprised by a newfound love for bananas. Yes, me—the person who had spent years avoiding this particular fruit—suddenly bought a bunch and consumed them with enthusiasm. This unexpected change left me a bit bewildered, but I embraced it as a natural evolution in my thirties. After all, nothing is more constant than change itself. In the midst of a busy…

Kids To Adults To Kids
I Beleive That If I Was Allowed To Be A Kid When I Was A Kid, Then Maybe I Wouldn’t Be Such A Child Like Adult Now If you had told my fifth grade self that one day I would be working in sports, crocheting like an old soul, falling in love with books again, and writing my heart out, she probably would have believed you. Fifth grade me was dramatic and ready for a storyline at all times. But what…

🍂✨ Embracing Autumn's Chill 🍂✨
As the days grow shorter and the air becomes crisp, it's easy to feel a bit hesitant about the colder weather ahead. But autumn reminds us that change is a natural part of life, and every season brings its own kind of beauty.
Instead of worrying about the chill, let’s embrace the cozy comforts that autumn offers. The warmth of a hot cup of tea, the glow of candlelight, the joy of wrapping ourselves in soft blankets, and the beauty of watching leaves transform into a tapestry of gold and crimson.
Autumn is a time for slowing down, reflecting, and finding comfort in the simple pleasures. It's a season that teaches us to let go, just as the trees let go of their leaves, and to trust that every ending brings a new beginning.
So, let's welcome the colder weather with open hearts. Embrace the season's gifts, enjoy the present moment, and remember that every season has its own magic. 🍁✨ #AutumnVibes #EmbraceTheSeason #MindfulLiving #FindingJoy

How do you recognize what really makes you happy?
Understanding what truly brings you happiness is a deeply personal journey, one that requires introspection, exploration, and a willingness to delve into the depths of your own emotions and experiences. It's a journey that is unique to each individual, shaped by your values, passions, and life experiences. In this exploration, you'll uncover not only what brings you joy in the moment but also what provides a sense of fulfilment and purpose in the long term. So, let's embark on this journey together, with a human touch, to discover what makes you truly happy.
Part 1: The Power of Self-Reflection
1.1 Embracing Your Emotions
Recognizing what makes you happy begins with an honest exploration of your emotions. Take time to acknowledge and embrace the full spectrum of your feelings – both positive and negative. Our emotions serve as valuable indicators, offering insights into what resonates with us and what doesn't. Notice moments of joy, contentment, and satisfaction, as well as those of frustration, disappointment, and boredom. Each emotion carries valuable information about your preferences, desires, and needs.
1.2 Reflecting on Past Experiences
Reflecting on past experiences can provide valuable clues about what truly brings you happiness. Think back to moments in your life when you felt most alive, fulfilled, and content. What activities were you engaged in? Who were you with? What were the circumstances surrounding those experiences? Conversely, consider times when you felt unhappy, dissatisfied, or unfulfilled. What aspects of those situations contributed to your negative emotions? Reflecting on both positive and negative experiences can help you identify patterns, preferences, and priorities.
1.3 Examining Your Values and Beliefs
Your values and beliefs play a significant role in shaping your happiness. Take time to examine what matters most to you in life – whether it's family, relationships, career, personal growth, community, or something else entirely. Consider how your values influence your choices, actions, and goals. Are you living in alignment with your values, or do you feel disconnected from them? Identifying your core values can provide clarity and guidance as you navigate the complexities of life and pursue happiness on your terms.
Part 2: Exploring Your Passions and Interests
2.1 Engaging in Curiosity
Curiosity is the gateway to discovering what truly brings you happiness. Approach life with an open mind and a sense of wonder, eager to explore new experiences and opportunities. Allow yourself to be curious about different hobbies, interests, and activities that pique your interest. Whether it's art, music, sports, cooking, gardening, or something else entirely, follow your curiosity and see where it leads you. Embrace the joy of learning and discovery as you explore new passions and interests.
2.2 Trying New Things
Don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things. Growth and fulfilment often lie beyond the boundaries of familiarity, waiting to be discovered through new experiences and challenges. Be open to experimenting with activities and pursuits that you've never considered before. Attend workshops, classes, or events related to your interests. Join clubs or groups where you can connect with like-minded individuals who share your passions. By stepping into the unknown, you may uncover hidden talents, forge new connections, and ignite a sense of passion and purpose.
2.3 Listening to Your Inner Voice
As you explore your passions and interests, listen closely to your inner voice – the voice of intuition and authenticity that guides you towards what truly resonates with your soul. Pay attention to the activities and experiences that evoke a sense of excitement, enthusiasm, and flow. These are often indicators that you're aligned with your true desires and passions. Trust your instincts and intuition as you navigate your journey towards happiness. Your inner voice knows what's best for you, even when the path ahead may seem uncertain.
Part 3: Cultivating Meaningful Connections
3.1 Nurturing Relationships
Human connection is essential for happiness and well-being. Take time to nurture your relationships with friends, family, and loved ones. Invest in meaningful connections that bring joy, support, and companionship into your life. Share laughter, tears, and experiences with those who uplift and inspire you. Cultivate a sense of belonging and connection by being present, attentive, and compassionate in your interactions. Remember that relationships thrive on mutual respect, trust, and communication. Prioritize quality time with loved ones, and cherish the moments you share together.
3.2 Building Community
In addition to personal relationships, building community can also contribute to your happiness and sense of belonging. Seek out groups, clubs, or organizations that align with your interests and values. Whether it's a book club, a volunteer group, a sports team, or a spiritual community, find opportunities to connect with others who share your passions and aspirations. Engage in meaningful conversations, collaborate on projects, and support one another in pursuit of common goals. Building community fosters a sense of connection, solidarity, and purpose that enriches your life and enhances your well-being.
3.3 Practicing Empathy and Compassion
Empathy and compassion are essential qualities for fostering meaningful connections and enhancing happiness. Take time to cultivate empathy – the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. Listen actively, offer support, and show kindness and understanding towards those around you. Practice compassion – the willingness to alleviate the suffering of others – through acts of generosity, empathy, and service. By extending empathy and compassion to others, you not only strengthen your relationships but also experience a deep sense of fulfilment and connection with the world around you.
Part 4: Embracing Authenticity and Self-Expression
4.1 Honoring Your Authentic Self
Authenticity lies at the heart of happiness. Embrace who you are – your strengths, weaknesses, quirks, and imperfections – with unapologetic self-acceptance and love. Honor your values, beliefs, and desires, even if they differ from societal norms or expectations. Live authentically by aligning your actions with your true self, rather than conforming to external pressures or judgments. When you live authentically, you cultivate a deep sense of inner peace, confidence, and fulfilment that radiates outward into every aspect of your life.
4.2 Expressing Yourself Creatively
Creativity is a powerful outlet for self-expression and self-discovery. Find ways to express yourself creatively through art, music, writing, dance, or any other medium that speaks to your soul. Allow yourself to explore your imagination, experiment with new ideas, and express your innermost thoughts and emotions. Creativity has the power to nourish your spirit, unleash your creativity, and cultivate a sense of joy and fulfilment that transcends words. Embrace the creative process as a journey of self-discovery and self-expression, where every brushstroke, note, or word carries the essence of your unique voice and vision.
4.3 Living with Purpose and Meaning
Living with purpose and meaning is the ultimate pursuit of happiness. Find meaning in your life by aligning your actions with your values, passions, and aspirations. Ask yourself what truly matters to you and how you can contribute to the greater good of humanity and the world. Discover your unique gifts, talents, and strengths, and use them to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Whether it's through your career, relationships, creative pursuits, or volunteer work, find ways to live with purpose and meaning every day. When you live with purpose, you tap into a deep reservoir of fulfilment and satisfaction that transcends the fleeting pleasures of momentary happiness.
Part 5: Practicing Gratitude and Mindfulness
5.1 Cultivating Gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful practice that can transform your perspective and enhance your happiness. Take time each day to cultivate gratitude for the blessings and abundance in your life. Notice the simple pleasures, moments of beauty, and acts of kindness that surround you each day. Keep a gratitude journal where you can write down three things you're grateful for each day. By focusing on the positive aspects of your life, you shift your attention away from negativity and scarcity towards abundance and appreciation. Cultivating gratitude opens your heart to the richness of life and invites more joy, peace, and contentment into your life.
5.2 Practicing Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment with non-judgmental awareness. Incorporate mindfulness into your daily life by pausing to observe your thoughts, emotions, and sensations without attachment or resistance. Engage in mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, or mindful movement practices such as yoga or tai chi. By cultivating mindfulness, you cultivate a sense of inner calm, clarity, and peace that transcends the fluctuations of external circumstances. Mindfulness allows you to savour the richness of each moment, deepen your connection with yourself and others, and cultivate a profound sense of happiness and well-being that emanates from within.
Conclusion: Your Unique Path to Happiness
In conclusion, discovering what truly makes you happy is a journey of self-discovery, growth, and transformation. It's a journey that requires courage, curiosity, and compassion as you explore the depths of your own being and embrace the fullness of who you are. By engaging in self-reflection, exploring your passions, nurturing meaningful connections, embracing authenticity, and practicing gratitude and mindfulness, you can unlock the door to a life filled with joy, fulfilment, and purpose. Remember that happiness is not a destination to be reached but a way of being in the world – a journey of becoming the best version of yourself. Embrace your unique path to happiness with an open heart and a willingness to embrace the beauty and wonder of life in all its forms.

The Lost Puppy Shaina Tranquilino November 26, 2024
Tumblr media
Barbara stood at the window of their cozy kitchen, watching the rain race down the glass in thin, watery streams. Her daughter, Janice, sat at the dining table, her crayon strokes filling in a picture of their home—complete with stick figures of them in the yard. But something was missing; their family didn’t feel whole.
It had been a difficult year since Barbara’s divorce. The house, once filled with laughter and joy, now felt empty and silent. Janice, once the girl who could turn any room into a dance party, now spent her time in quiet thought, her wide eyes always searching for answers Barbara couldn’t give.
Then, one morning, everything changed.
After a week of endless rain, Barbara and Janice stepped outside to find the world glistening in the soft light of the clearing storm. A faint whimper caught their attention, and they froze at the end of their driveway. There, curled up in a tiny ball, was a puppy—wet, shivering, and looking at them with pleading eyes.
“Oh, Mommy, look!” Janice’s voice, full of wonder, filled the air as she ran over, kneeling down to scoop up the small creature. Before Barbara could stop her, Janice cradled the puppy in her arms, a look of awe on her face.
Barbara knelt beside her daughter, gently petting the tiny creature. “We should see if anyone is looking for him,” she said, her voice tinged with uncertainty. But deep down, she could already feel the pull in her heart, knowing that saying no to Janice would be impossible.
“But what if no one comes, Mommy?” Janice’s eyes were wide, filled with hope. “Can we keep him?”
Barbara hesitated. But then she saw the joy in Janice’s eyes—the way she was holding the puppy like it was the most precious thing in the world—and felt her heart soften. “Alright,” Barbara said, smiling for the first time in weeks. “We’ll keep him.”
They named him Bolt, after the white streak on his chest that reminded them of lightning. It didn’t take long for him to work his way into their hearts. Bolt was full of energy, running through the house with abandon, making Janice laugh in a way Barbara hadn’t heard in a long time. His warm little body curled up next to Barbara during the quiet evenings, filling the empty spaces with a comfort that was both new and familiar.
One afternoon, Barbara sat on the porch, watching Janice throw a ball for Bolt. The puppy zipped around the yard, slipping in the wet grass, tumbling, then bouncing back, his tail wagging like crazy. Janice’s laughter filled the air, clear and bright, and for the first time in a long time, Barbara felt a lightness in her chest—a quiet joy that made the pain of the past seem far away.
“Mommy,” Janice called, coming back with her arm raised, ready to throw the ball again. “I’m so glad we found him.”
Barbara smiled, pulling Janice close. “No, sweetie,” she said softly. “He found us.”
In the weeks that followed, Bolt not only brightened their days but also helped them find each other again. They spent weekends at the park, playing together as a family, sharing stories over the puppy’s antics. Slowly, Barbara found herself opening up, the heaviness that had clouded her heart beginning to lift.
One evening, as they sat on the couch together—Janice leaning against her mother, Bolt curled up at their feet—Barbara looked at her daughter’s peaceful face and the little puppy sleeping beside them. She felt a warmth spread through her chest, a quiet gratitude.
In their search for something to heal their broken hearts, Barbara realized they hadn’t just found a puppy. They had found a new beginning.
And for the first time in what felt like ages, Barbara knew she was no longer afraid of what the future would bring.

Discovering True Power
In a small village nestled in the mountains, there lived a stonecutter named Akira. He was known for his skillful craftsmanship, but despite his talent, he was never content with his life. He longed to be something more, something powerful that could command the respect and admiration of others.
One day, as he chiseled away at a piece of rock, he saw a procession of soldiers marching past him. In their midst was the king, who was adorned in luxurious clothing and carried a scepter in his hand. As he watched the king pass by, Akira couldn't help but feel envious of his power and authority.
Determined to be like the king, Akira prayed to the gods to grant him his wish. To his surprise, he woke up the next day as the king himself. Overwhelmed by the grandeur of his new life, Akira reveled in his newfound power and glory.
However, as time passed, Akira realized that being a king was not as fulfilling as he thought it would be. He grew tired of the endless politics and power struggles that came with the job, and soon, he wished to be something else.
Once again, he prayed to the gods to change his form, and he became a wealthy merchant. He traveled far and wide, buying and selling goods, and amassing a great fortune. But soon, he grew tired of the endless pursuit of wealth and material possessions, and he wished to be something else.
This time, he became the sun, which shone brightly in the sky and brought warmth and light to the world. But as the day wore on, Akira saw that even the sun had its limitations. It could not shine at night, nor could it penetrate the darkness of the deep forest.
Again, he prayed to the gods to change his form, and he became the wind, which blew fiercely across the land and sea. But he soon realized that even the wind had its limitations. It could not move mountains or change the course of mighty rivers.
Finally, Akira prayed to the gods to change his form one last time. And he became a mountain, which stood tall and proud, its rocky peak reaching towards the heavens. And there, as a mountain, Akira finally found contentment.
He realized that he had been searching for power and glory all along, but true contentment came from accepting who he was and finding joy in the simple things. The mountain provided a sense of peace and stability that Akira had never experienced before.
And so, as the sun set over the mountain, Akira closed his eyes and smiled. He was finally content with his life, and he knew that he would always be happy as a mountain, where he could watch the world go by in peace.
Moral: True contentment comes from accepting who you are and finding joy in the simple things.
