Skyward Sword's Fireshield earrings are clip-ons. Link wears clip-ons!

Come to think of it, the designers also said this about Twilight Princess Zelda's earrings:

Are everyone's earrings clip-ons? I'm on the deep-dive now...

I think they're going to crop weirdly, so you'll have to click on them. If you look carefully, the ones in BOTW/TOTK appear to be clip-ons as well.

It's hard to tell with the Hero of Time or Twilight since the Skyward Sword hoops blend in so well. OOT Zelda could also go either way. In one picture it looks like the earring could go all the way around, but in the other it looks a ball and post set-up.

I can't see very well on either of her OOT models because of her hair and the resolution. The Smash model could lean either way just as much as the art does, but I'm leaning towards the second image.

Zonai earrings seem to be clip-ons because BOTW/TOTK Zelda doesn't appear to have pierced ears when she's not wearing them. She doesn't wear any in BOTW. The earrings from that ancient time period also seem to be attached to whatever part of the ear they want.

...I don't really have a conclusion for this post. It was just supposed to be about the fireshield earrings, but then I remembered TP Zelda and got lost in the sauce. I guess the takeaway is that it's possible no one pierces their ears. Or some do. Or they all do but some earrings are clip-ons anyway.

Game Night: CHAIN ATTACK!!!

i am,,, withering away but ITS DONE ITS DONE IM FREE FROM THE CURSE (<<< still haunted by wips) clocking in at 32+ hours, this sucker has been getting pushed around for 10 months-

while theres some things i would have done differently if i could redo this from scratch, i still had a BLAST cramming in as much detail as i could tolerate >:) some highlights / cut ideas / ramblings are below the cut, but please zoom for details! (if tumblr doesnt shred it to bits)

gonna be real i locked so hard onto drawing ripped jeans that i forgot i could have just shoved legend into a skirt and called it a day

SOCKS. SOCKS. the amount of Joy anytime i figured out how to personalize them with game references: legend (hibiscus), twilight (ordon goats), and four (force gems)

i WAS going to put time in a turtleneck, but had an epiphany and started digging for the most obnoxious hawaiian shirts i could find,,, ft. a sea flower (wind waker) and a saturation boosted plumm (twilight princess)!

yeah so warriors got the sweater instead of the skintight shirt, sorry gang

speaking of if i ever say im going to draw a cableknit sweater again, somebody PLEASE shake some sense into me- warriors sweater was a NIGHTMARE since my art program has an astonishing lack of good brushes (and yet here i am still using it)

Hylian Commitment Rings

Just a little Headcanon that Hylians show their commitment through earrings.

There’s no real science behind it, I just feel like they would put their commitments on their most dominant traits. It wouldn’t only be wedding rings, either, it can show other commitments, like a knights oath or maybe as a test of courage for Pirates (looking at wind waker lol).

I just noticed that there aren’t a lot of earrings in the LoZ franchise as a whole, and thought “well if earrings are only used for special commitments, it would make a lot of sense.”

Some headcanons for different Links who canonically wear earrings-

SS Link: He wears a set of blue hoops throughout most of the game that I want to interpret as his knights oath. Towards the end of the game he receives the Fireshield Earrings from a sacred realm trial, which he dons to protect himself from fire, but I feel like it could also be an upgraded version of his oath with the knowledge he now carries about his destiny.

Oot/ MM Link: While not quite as clear or called out as some other sets of earrings, there’s a lot of official art with the grow up Link donning either gold or light blue earrings, and I’m pretty sure they’re on his model in the game (?) Anyways. He probably got the earrings sometime after his seven year nap, and while they could just be there for aesthetic reasons, I believe they’re a symbol of his commitment to his role as Hyrule’s Hero. After he returns to the past by Zelda’s hand, he doesn’t get earrings again, even throughout his journey in Majora’s Mask, perhaps symbolizing he took Zelda’s request for him to live out his childhood correctly to heart. As for his Hero’s Shade, it could be argued that he wears earrings under his helmet, perhaps a set intended to show his commitment to a certain special someone haha.

TH Link: out of all of the outfits you can wear in the game, Link only wears 43with earrings, most of which being powerfully/ monarch-like outfits (the queen of hearts, Lady’s Ensemble and the Legendary Dress). It could be argued that because this game takes place outside of Hyrule, the traditions are slightly different. Don’t have much to say about this one

TP Link: Link starts his adventure with earrings, which is a little hard to explain with this Headcanon. It’s possible the people of Ordon don’t have the same regard for earrings that Hylians do, seeing as their ears are a lot more human-like, and they just kinda pierced Links ears for fashion purposes. Again, not much to say.

Botw/ TotK Link: as mentioned earlier, earrings are a sign of commitment, thus this Links earring are probably from when he first enlisted as a Knight of Hyrule, and he’s kept them on ‘till this day, although the meaning and context might’ve changed over the years. It’s also possible he forgot their meaning altogether after his hundred year sleep, explaining why he so easily replaces them with opal/topaz/amber earrings once he reaches Gerudo town. It’s possible this disconnect carries on to TotK- maybe he realizes the usefulness of the earrings over the traditions of the past.

Honorable mention- Hyrule Warriors Link: As previously stated, earring can be a show of knightly commitment. What is this Link if not a Knight?

Hot dog, has World of Warcraft Remix been a huge success for me. By now if you play WoW you already know the basic gist of WoW Remix: “Timerunning”, a special way to experience the older content of the Mists of Pandaria with a new character, in modern WoW’s gameplay and featureset, while packed to the brim with fun twists.

Now when I say “Fun Twists” I of course mean “Complete insanity baked into the core DNA of how this game works at all”. While the content of Mists of Pandaria remains functionally the same, befitting the Time Travel concept (you even have access to the Scenarios, lost to the wind in Chromie Time), the twists add a lot of imaginative new energy to the older content. The Cloak of Infinite Potential, an ever present cape worn by all your characters, grows and morphs based on everything you do. Getting up to levels of stats at a rate almost unheard of since the more recent stat squishes. Everything from the traditional extra stamina or attack power, to game altering bonuses like XP boosts to use on your further characters.

All items, which drop frequently, are packed with gem and modification slots. All which do wild things like grant a warrior Blink, Fireshield or movement speed increases that result in the most mobile heavy weapon use you’ve ever seen. All quests grant small loot boxes, full of gear, gems, modifiers and other wild additions, and I mean all quests. Even something as simple as a breadcrumb quest has a chance to grant you some kind of power altering item. As a result, your power level is changing rapidly, and your skillset goes through upheaval after most sets of quests. Combat never gets old as you experiment with new ideas and attacks.

I’ve been using this new event to see the content of Mists of Pandaria that I’ve not yet experienced, which is to say most of it. I was wary when this began because I assumed if I just held out a little longer I could probably play a Mists of Pandaria classic. Thankfully I didn’t let those doubts win out, because this has not only been an incredible new experience, but a fantastic way to appreciate an old one. I deeply hope that this concept is revisited, it would be an incredible way for Blizzard to revisit the content of, say, Warlords of Draenor. A finely crafted campaign without much of an endgame, but one that would slot extremely well into this fun new take on the leveling experience.

Plus it has a lot of transmog and new mounts, which, let's not pretend those aren’t why we’re all still in Azeroth.

Crimson/SkSw: cis man (he/him), bisexual & polyamorous (dating Zelda & Groose). Age 20. His knight’s uniform (slightly altered for better Loftwing riding) and fireshield earrings, bright blue crystal by his chest (matching with Fi), sailcloth around his waist for easy access, green eyes. A sweetheart who has never done anything wrong ever, nope (your chandelier stands no chance against him).

Cori/tMC: cis boy (he/him), heterosexual for what he knows (had a lil kiddy crush on Anju). Age 14. Green tunic with the Roc’s Cape and hat gifted by Ezlo, hairstyle based on the Hero of Men. His best friends are a girl he’s commonly shipped with but has no romantic feels for, and a snarky talking hat.

Rainbow/FS: what’s gender? (they/them us/we plural), never even thought about having a relationship. Age 16. Multicoloured tunic (kinda like LU Four) and a hand-stitched scarf (they get cold easily). I don’t think they canonically have a personality, so I interpret them as a sweet teenager just trying to reassure people that they’re totally okay.

Sprite/OoT+MM: demi-boy (he/they), heterosexual (married to Malon). Age unknown. Long blonde hair that fades to white, Keaton mask, armour and face markings based on Fierce Deity Link. Malon and him are expecting, so he tries to keep her from working too much at the ranch, but she’s stubborn.

Apple/aLttP+OoS+OoA+CoH+LA: gender-fluid (any pronouns), aromatic (platonically loved Marin). Age 16. Red tunic and purple/blue hat (based off red mail in aLttP) Raven cloak, Pegasus Boots, pink hair (occasionally) with white streaks, Triforce earrings and red hibiscus flower. The late queen had an affair and here them and Zelda are! Great!

Mural/aLbW+TfH: cis man (he/him), gay (married to Ravio “for taxes”). Age 18. Blue tunic (based on blue mail (aLbW) and Sword Suit (TfH)), belts and pouches for smithing tools, one purple and one green eye. Fashion obsessed pain in the ass, always trying to understand what’s going on in Apple’s head.

Rift/EoW: trans girl (she/her), lesbian & polyamorous (dating Zelda & Dohna). Age 17. Set of armour (made by Mr. Lueberry) consisting of dark blues and blacks (made with Might Crystals), part of her face is still swallowed be a rift and it couldn’t be saved. Unfortunately still can’t talk, but both Zelda and Dohna learned sign language for her sake.

Fae/Zelda1+AoL: non-binary (any pronouns), demiromantic (was briefly with Zelda2/AoL). Age 16. Classic green tunic with brown undershirt and trousers, pale pink flower in their brown hair, multicoloured eyes, fairy-wing based earring. Worried that their world will never recover and pushes themself to their limit until they break to try and do good.

Ōkami/TP+LCT: trans man (he/him), bisexual leaning towards women (misses Midna dearly but has developed a crush on Shad). Age 19. Traditional Ordonian clothing, some tattoos on his arms and white wolf marking on his face, brown hair (prolly a wolf cut) and heterochromic (blue & brown) eyes. Cries at pretty sunsets because they remind him of Midna, can and will deadlift a whole family.

Clover/FSA: I HAVE NO GENDER ONLY RAGE (they/them us/we plural), omnisexual (going out with Shadow in secret). Age 17. Classic Link look mixed with some features from a knight’s uniform, multicoloured clover earring (idea from Hero’s Paradox), black headband of sorts (they refuse to say who gave it to them). Confident little shit who used to be very insecure as a kid, heavily based on the manga.

🌧️ || Adult-timeline

Sailor/WW+PH: lowkey dgaf about gender (any pronouns), pansexual (‘em & Tetra say they’re together so people leave them alone). Age 16. Lobster shirt (without sleeves), red scarf matching with Tetra, fabric from green tunic wrapped around their waist, has some hideous tan lines, sea green eyes. Can and will rock a dress, and will stab people if they judge.

Spirit/ST: demi-boy (he/they), heterosexual (dating Zelda). Age 19. Messy blonde hair, wearing his engendering outfit, hands and face always dirty (somehow, he literally wears gloves). His girlfriend was literally dead once, autistic and hyperfixates over trains.

🌤️ || Reconnected-timeline

Warriors/HW: cis man (he/him), secretly a raging bisexual (dating Zelda/Sheik). Age 20. Brown hair dyed blonde, green eyes, scars from the war, really just his Hyrule Warriors outfit but more armour and red instead of green (I want them all to fell more unique). Scared shitless of the idea of Cia going evil again, the prettiest of boys.

Wild/BotW+TotK: trans woman (she/her), lesbian (was engaged to Mipha). Age (1)20. Wears a combination of Zora and Royal Guard’s armour + a diamond circlet, severe scarring on face and torso, wears Monster Medals (TotK) on her armour. Cries whenever she’s at Zora’s Domain, her and Zelda study animals together.
