Yeonjun didn’t think much of it when his phone buzzed during practice at first, so he didn’t go check anything until the next break. However, the moment he picks up his phone, he regrets not seeing it sooner. His eyes widen and he is immediately looking around to make sure no one else can see what he does. It’s not a completely naked picture, but honestly, what you sent is hotter. You don’t show him exactly what he would want to, but enough to make him excited. “Shit,” he mumbles, feeling his dick twitch in his pants. “I’m going to the toilet!” He calls quickly, running out of the practice room before anyone can question anything. He’s texting you back right away too, cursing at you for sending him such pic when you know he’s practicing 

Soobin coughs, almost choking on his food when he notices your message. He immediately looks up to meet your eyes across the table, trying to ask what you’re doing. You just chuckle, though, inconspicuously pointing at his mother next to him as she tries to ask her son a question. He sends you one warning look and turns to his mother, but at the same moment you slide your phone under the table, opening your legs as you snap another picture, sending it to him without a second of hesitation. Soobin’s eyes widen when he hears his phone buzz, knowing it must be a text from you. He only spares the picture on his phone a mere glance before he turns his phone off, fixing his tie as if he wasn’t able to breathe in it. You laugh at his reaction, your foot making its way up to his leg until you reach his crotch, smiling when you feel his boner. He doesn’t say anything else, but you know he is fighting himself so he wouldn’t take you right there in front of his parents. 

Beomgyu hasn’t been paying you any attention since he got home. You weren’t sure what you did, but it was obvious he was mad at you for something. “Baby?” You coo, leaning over the door frame as you watch him play video games with Soobin. “Hm?” He mumbles back, but doesn’t look at you. “I can’t now, I’m in a game,” he silences you before you can even speak, making you sigh. You don’t leave the room, that might make you feel even worse than you already do. You go sit on his bed instead, watching him play for a while before you open your phone and roll up your shirt, snapping a pic for him with the caption “Please talk to me.” It’s almost unbelievable how quickly he drops his headphones, not even bothering with saying bye to his friend as he turns to you with hungry eyes. “I’m listening.” 

Taehyun doesn’t seem to care about what you send him. Honestly, you feel disappointed when you see the look on his face. No change. No smile, no sign of nervousness, no nothing. You frown, opening the chat with him again. You send him two more pics, but before you can look up again to see his reaction, he is already on his feet, walking towards you from the kitchen. “What do you think you’re doing?” — “Nothing,” you mumble innocently, making him shake his head. You’re not sure how he does it, but in the blink of an eye, he has you thrown over his shoulder, as if you were some sort of bag, making you yelp. “What are you doing?” you ask, punching his back in an attempt to make him let you down. “This is what you wanted, isn’t it?” He answers simply, heading to your shared bedroom. 

Huening takes a minute to process the picture he just got out of nowhere. He gulps down upon feeling his cock hardening, looking around the room to assure himself no one saw him. “Excuse me,” he clears his throat, throwing his gaming console to the side as he stands up, running to the bathroom. He doesn’t really care what his roommates think at the moment, he just needs to talk to you. The moment he closes the bathroom door behind himself, he is pulling his pants down, revealing his hard cock and snapping a picture for you to see. it starts in your elective media studies class, where he shows up with fluffy hair, chapstick shimmer on the edge of his cup, and opinions on blogging that make the whole room sit up straighter. you don’t talk to him for the first two weeks. you just write about him.

because, well—your professor made you start a blog. and not just a pretend blog—a real one, with actual weekly entries about digital culture, personal reflections, media consumption, blah blah. most of your classmates do the bare minimum.

but you? you write essays about yeonjun.

not directly, obviously. that would be unhinged. you just refer to him vaguely as “the boy with the soft laugh who sits by the window.” and “gloss boy,” once, which is embarrassing in retrospect.

you write about how he talks with his hands, like he’s painting ideas in midair. how he doodles on the sides of his notes. how he reads blog posts out loud with this half-laugh in his voice, like everything is secretly funny to him.

so when he turns to you one day and goes, “hey, wanna get coffee and study sometime?” you nearly choke on your own breath.

and okay. maybe you’re delusional. but sometimes it feels like he’s writing about you too. not in blog posts—you’ve never seen his, he’s secretive about it—but in the way he looks at you when you’re not paying attention. in the way he saves the seat next to him with his jacket. in the way he texts you at midnight like, “send me a pic of your notes i zoned out thinking about waffles.”

but before you can finish, he’s looking at you with that stupid, goofy smile. the one he only ever really gives to you. and he says, with zero hesitation and all the dramatic flair of someone who absolutely knows what he’s doing.

“i’d be lost without my blogger.”

you freeze.

your heart skips three beats. maybe four. your brain explodes.

“you—” you choke out. “what?”

he just sips his drink, unbothered. smug. “what?” he echoes, voice light.

“you know about my blog?” you hiss, leaning across the table like it’s a secret government mission. “how do you—”

“you write like you think no one’s ever gonna read it,” he says, all soft and honest, like he hasn’t just upended your entire existence. “but i read it. every post.”

you are going to die right here in this starbucks.

“you’re the reason i passed that midterm,” he adds. “your notes? immaculate. your media takes? unhinged but smart. your entries about ‘the boy with the soft laugh’?” he wiggles his eyebrows. “flattering.”

you cover your face with both hands. “oh my god.”

he laughs—actual, full-body laughs—and reaches out like he’s going to tug your hands away, then thinks better of it and just lightly taps your wrist.

“you’re a good writer,” he says. “and a terrible liar.”

you peek through your fingers. “how long have you known?”

“first week,” he says. “you posted about my ‘strawberry crime against coffee.’ i put two and two together.”

“why didn’t you say anything?”

“i dunno,” he shrugs. “i liked being your secret muse.”

you groan. “yeonjun.”

he tilts his head. “what?”

you lower your hands, exhale, and look at him—really look at him

he’s so annoyingly pretty. he’s so bright, and funny, and stupidly clever, and he’s looking at you like you’re something worth reading twice.

“you’re lucky you’re cute,” you mutter.

“oh?” he says, smirking. “so you do think i’m cute.”

you shake your head, laughing despite yourself. “are we going to soobin’s or not?”

“only if you sit next to me the whole time,” he says. “i need my blogger.”

“you’re never gonna let me live that down, are you?”

“not a chance.”

you pack up your stuff together, sipping from the same drink, your shoulders brushing as you walk out into the golden haze of late afternoon.

it’s a little ridiculous. a little romantic. painfully soft.

Recently everyone had really busy schedules and it wasn't a big surprise when slowly it took a toll on the health of the five boys, some things like fevers, colds, muscle pain or general body ache, they were getting used to it.

Kai's stomach felt uneasy when he woke up that day, like a roiling sea in the early morning hours. It's subtle, just a vague ache that comes and goes, but it's a prelude to the worse to come. His head feels a bit heavy, and a vague sense of queasiness lurks in the background. It's not severe yet, but the first signs of illness are definitely making themselves known.

But still, he diligently pushed through the day, after all they had a break and when this schedule was over, they had a long weekend for them to rest a bit, fortunately they didn't have dance practice that day, Kai was really thankful for that, still he had vocal lessons and some meetings for their next album, nothing that could worsen the pain on his gut, but he couldn't help how it gurgled sometimes, excusing himself as being hungry and laughing it off. His stomach just felt weird, a little bit queasy if you asked but he didn't mind, after a while they were able to go home, Beomgyu immediately asking what they wanted to eat once they were out of the meeting room, Kai shrugged and said he would eat whatever they wanted.

He had eaten at lunch, strangely he did feel a bit hungry at that moment so he ate, less than usual but he didn't skip that meal, breakfast too, they were in a hurry so he ate what he could.

When they arrived at the dorms the ache in Kai's stomach grows more pronounced, manifesting as a dull, persistent throb. The roiling feeling intensifies, now akin to violent, turbulent waves crashing against a rocky shoreline. The queasiness blossoms into a full-blown nausea, threatening to erupt into outright vomiting. Kai felt a sense of fatigue settling into his bones as the virus takes hold, the air in his room felt stuffier and he was sure he was developing a fever, Kai decided to grab a pillow and just lay there on the floor of his room after changing into what he usually wears at home.

"Hyung could you please go and look for Huening? Tell him dinner is here, he's probably playing on his phone. Beomgyu pass me a plate please" Soobin was setting the table, Taehyun was also on his room changing his clothes, Yeonjun and Beomgyu were helping the leader.

Yeonjun did as Soobin asked him to, going to the maknae's room, knocking once and twice in case he wasn't ready to open the door. "Kai, dinner's ready, come with us" Yeonjun was left waiting for a response, when he didn't get any he decided to open the door, noticing how the youngest was asleep on the floor, it was probably going to be uncomfortable after some hours but he looked so exhausted Yeonjun couldn't say anything, still, he took a couple of pictures and sent them to their group chat laughing at how he fell asleep.

As much as he didn't want to, Yeonjun had to wake him up to eat, they hadn't been able to eat well those days so even if it was only one complete meal, it would do the difference.

"Kai... Get up, you'll be aching later if you keep sleeping here" as Yeonjun shook him gently he noticed the heat coming from him, he touched Kai's forehead and only then he noticed he was flushed and sweaty, and maybe a bit pale.

Kai's stomach was churning incessantly, the once-gentle roiling now a fiercer, tumultuous storm. His nausea escalates to the point where any movement triggers waves of vertigo, and he must remain perfectly still to avoid becoming overwhelmed, a headache blooming in his temples, adding an extra layer of discomfort to the sickening sensations wracking his body. He feels clammy, his skin taking on a pale, feverish sheen. When he felt someone shaking him he woke up with a grimace of clear discomfort on his face. "What's wrong? Are you in pain somewhere?" Yeonjun asked him, a frown of worry displayed on his face, Kai only rubbed his stomach, lowering his head, making himself smaller, and Yeonjun understood "Are you nauseous? Something else? Please tell me if you need anything" he continued trying to get Kai to talk to him, but the latter only nodded, still not talking "Are you nauseous? Yes?" when Kai nodded again Yeonjun obtained his answer. "Okay, it's okay, uhm.. do you want to go to the bathroom?" and only then Kai spoke "yes.. bathroom" quickly, Yeonjun helped him get up and walked him to the bathroom, the others just looking at them from the living room, still eating.

The churning in Kai's stomach gains a sharper edge, each twist and turn sending jolts of pain through his abdomen. The nausea becomes all-consuming, his mouth filling with a metallic, acidic taste. He gags as soon as he was in front of the toilet, desperate to relieve the pressure but unable to bring anything up. His head pounds mercilessly as if someone were hammering away at the inside of his skull. His body trembles faintly, chills coursing through him as his temperature rises. Yeonjun opens the faucet to prevent the rest from hearing, not wanting to ruin their meal, then trying to comfort Kai as best as he could.

The pain in Kai's stomach transforms into a symphony of burning, aching, and cramping, each sensation more intense than the last. The nausea builds to a fever pitch, and Kai's stomach clenches as if in anticipation of vomiting, although none comes. He moans piteously, sweat beading on his brow. The chills intensify, causing his teeth to chatter noisily against each other. He was really sick.

Kai's stomach writhes in agony, the burning, aching, and cramping sensations reaching new heights of intensity. The nausea peaks, and he gags, a thin string of saliva dribbling from his lips. This time, his stomach contracts, and a thin stream of stomach acid and bile spews from his mouth, he gasps for air, shaking like a leaf in the cold wind. "It's okay, you're going to be okay" Yeonjun whispered, trying to rub his back with one hand and his middle with the other, Kai had both hands on each side of the toilet, gripping on it for dear life.

The agony in Kai's stomach morphs once more. Sharp pangs of agony now ripple through his abdomen like knives, accompanied by a wrenching, twisting sensation that threatens to tear him apart. He whimpers weakly, trying to force a gag once again to get up something, anything, another thin stream of bile came up

With a violent heave, Kai's stomach clenches once more, and he vomits again, this time producing a much larger volume of stomach fluid and partially-digested food. He gasps, spitting, as another wave of nausea courses through him, and he vomits a third time, his entire body shuddering. He retches again, another burst of acid-tinged liquid cascading from his lips. Kai moans, tears of pain and exertion streaming down his cheeks. His stomach continues to spasm, the cramping increasing in strength as his body writhes in pain. A spasm tears through his stomach, rippling through his abdominal muscles and wrenching an involuntary heave from his throat. Kai gags, his mouth filling with a bitter, putrid liquid. He leans forward and vomits again, the stream of stomach contents mingling with the mess on the now filthy water.

Feeling empty now, he exhaled now that it was over (at least for now), resting his head on top of his arms, still hovering over the toilet, Yeonjun still rubbing his back. "Feel better now?" Kai shrugged, not really knowing if he would throw up again later but for now he was just tired, "wanna lay down..." he mumbled, Yeonjun helped him get up and clean a bit what splashed on the toilet seat and on the corners of his mouth, Kai brushed his teeth and slowly walked to his room, this time collapsing on his bed, Yeonjun left a glass of water on his nightstand "Call me if you need anything please, try to sleep now" with that, he left the room.

"What happened? Is Kai okay?" Beomgyu asked, Taehyun looked at him "He didn't sound okay like, at all" Yeonjun winced a bit, they still heard Kai being sick. "I don't know what happened to him but he suddenly looked feverish, look closer to the picture I sent to the group chat, he already looks sick there, and then he woke up, told me he felt nauseous so I helped him get to the bathroom and the rest you can imagine what happened" Yeonjun explained as good as he could, Soobin frowned a bit "but why so suddenly tho? Do you think something he ate wasn't agreeing with him or maybe he caught something?" Taehyun thought about it "maybe he caught something, remember the stomach flu going around the staff members? Maybe he caught it, he hung out with some of them not so long ago" Yeonjun sighed "Well, whatever it is, we have to take care of Kai now, and pray we don't get sick too".

A few meters away from them, Kai was lying on his bed, trying so hard to relax a bit and sleep, he felt so exhausted, all his energy was drained from throwing up, so why couldn't he fall asleep already? It was frustrating, silent tears made their way through his flushed cheeks, he was hurting everywhere, his stomach cramping, one of his hands made their way to his middle and pressed, rubbed, tried so hard to make at least a bit of the pain go away, at some point Kai started shivering, pulling his knees to his chest making himself as small as possible, a pained moan leaving his lips when another cramp hit him with full force, his eyes squeezing shut waiting for the pain to fade, a sickly gurgle ended momentarily with the silence of the room.

Kai lost track of time, too lost on his misery, so when he gave up on sleeping and took his phone, he realized it was already past midnight and everyone should be asleep by now, having the opportunity to sleep in as late as they could the next day, Kai wished he could just fall asleep too, but another angry sound from his belly told him how wrong he was for thinking that. Slowly he made his way to the bathroom once again, a hand covering his mouth just in case, dry gags making him stop on his tracks and take a deep breath to prevent making a mess, Kai didn't want anyone else cleaning puke from the floor, nor he wanted to do it himself, he would just create an even bigger mess.

As soon as he arrived to the bathroom all his strength faded and Kai had to slid down the now closed door, his fever didn't make it any easier either, he knew he had to get to the toilet, but he couldn't, Kai couldn't move from where his legs gave out, so with an involuntary gag a wave of sickness splashed on his clothes and the tiles in front of him, and Kai didn't care anymore, he just wanted this to be over, another heave, a larger one that made him choke in the process of getting it up expanded the disaster, another mouthful of chunky vomit made him cough again and again, tears streaming down his cheeks, after a while it ended, it was rather quick but the gross feeling of it lingered, now having a chance to catch his breath, Kai finally realized all the mess he created, and even if he was still feeling awful he slowly got up, rinsed his mouth and took off his clothes, a bath in the middle of the night it is.

Beomgyu was trying to fall asleep, and the sound of the shower at that time weirded him out, he got up to check up on Kai, his room was empty, he walked to the bathroom and knocked twice so Kai would acknowledge his presence, Beomgyu opened the door and was immediately hit with the stench of the drying puddle of vomit in front of him, he gagged a little "oh god what happened? Kai are you alright?" the maknae turned off the water and grabbed his towel "hyung, could you please fetch some clothes for me? I... I had a bit of an accident, couldn't make it on time... sorry" Kai peeked through the shower curtain, Beomgyu nodded "It's okay it wasn't your fault, I'll be back" and Beomgyu being the good hyung he was got the maknae his coziest set of clothes to wear at home, the fabric being refreshing yet not making him cold, and they were loose so Kai could sleep at ease.

"Here, get dressed first, I'll clean this up before it's more difficult to do so" Beomgyu left the set of clothes at the sink counter, and as much as he hated cleaning up puke, he had to, all the members are asleep and obviously Kai couldn't do it.

Kai came out of the shower already dressed, hair still dripping wet, cheeks flushed and overall an expression of discomfort. Beomgyu was done cleaning up the floor, so he was waiting for Kai "how are you feeling?" Kai felt Beomgyu's cold hand on his forehead, muttering something about a fever "I don't know what I caught but it's making me feel horrible, I don't wanna get anyone else this sick" he pouted, Beomgyu just grabbed him out of the bathroom and went to the couch "I know you probably can't stomach anything right now but if you wanna take some medicine you should drink at least a bit of tea" he ran his cold fingers through Kai's hair, making the younger feel relaxed as he laid down on the couch accepting his offer.

Beomgyu went to prepare a cup of chamomile tea with some honey and prepared a couple of pills for stomach discomfort and nausea.

Kai was starting to fall asleep when Beomgyu placed a hand on his head, handing him the steaming cup, with slow small sips Kai managed to get down almost all the tea and swallowed the pills before deciding if he drank it all his stomach would protest again, for now it felt slightly calm.

"Are you feeling any better? I think it's that stomach flu that has been around the staff members lately" Beomgyu was beside him keeping him company, Kai shrugged "maybe it is, but I didn't want to spend our break sick" Beomgyu reassured him "It's fine, we were going to spend our break sleeping and resting here anyway, we don't mind taking care of you" Kai nodded with a tired smile "I'm going to bed, sorry I woke you up, thanks for the tea hyung" Beomgyu smiled "It's nothing, but maybe you should take a bucket with you, just in case"

Kai did as told, the suggestion being actually helpful when at 5 am he woke up again nauseous, only heaving up some water he drank after he laid down and stomach acid, burning his throat in the process, then once again at 7 am but this time Kai was only dry heaving, at times saliva and stomach acid came up but mostly he was empty, why couldn't his body just accept his stomach had nothing left to bring up? Kai didn't know.

At 9 am Taehyun went to check up on him, Kai was sound asleep, all the sheets and the comforter were tangled at one side of the bed, he must've been burning up due to his fever, Taehyun saw the bucket and it's contents, he just winced but still went to clean it up.

At 11 am Kai woke up feeling a bit better, only with a small headache , maybe he was getting dehydrated, at least he could sleep well the few hours his stomach and fever weren't making him feel so uncomfortable he'd rather squeeze with his own hands his stomach so it would stop churning and jumping inside of him. He saw the now clean bucket, deciding to check what time it was, Kai went out of his room, Yeonjun and Soobin playing videogames in the living room, Taehyun was drinking a protein shake while watching his phone, Beomgyu was in his room.

"Hey, are you feeling any better today?" Soobin asked, Yeonjun paused the game, Kai did a gesture with his hand saying so-so, sitting with them on the couch. "I just didn't want to be in my room anymore, too boring" they all nodded "are you up to something to eat? or drink? you're going to get dehydrated, I think we have some sports drink left on the fridge" and without waiting for a response Taehyun got up and checked the fridge, handing Kai the last bottle of sports drink with electrolytes. "Drink it in small sips, tell me if you get hungry" and Kai just thanked him, he sat there with his hyungs as they resumed their game, it was a great distraction, without noticing he finished his drink, feeling good, his headache disappeared, Taehyun was right.

At lunch, they ordered takeout, but Kai had to sit out, eating little by little some porridge Taehyun made for him, pouting when he saw how everyone were eating fried chicken with some beer, at least they promised to treat him once he's healthy again. After everyone was done with their food they decided to watch a movie, it was fun until Kai felt again that churn deep inside his belly, how his tongue felt heavy and uncomfortable and his mouth felt dry but in reality it was filling with saliva. –no, not again please, I just started feeling better"

"You alright?" Yeonjun's voice forced him out of his thoughts, Kai nodded but two seconds later he shook his head and got up, he had to get to the bathroom, and had to do it fast.

Once he was in there he didn't make it to the toilet again, but at least he didn't puke on the floor, this time's victim was the bathroom sink, the porridge with water he had earlier was pouring out of his mouth —and nose— making him gag harder and harder because of how gross it felt, again his stomach convulsed and his back hunched even more, his hands were gripping the counter so forcefully one could think it would fall off.

"Hey hey, okay be careful" Taehyun's voice and grip saved Kai from falling to the floor, his knees went weak and he was overall exhausted, but that didn't stop the tears that fell down his cheeks. "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry Taehyunnie I tried to keep it down, you made that for me and now... now it's wasted, sorry" Kai sobbed, his fever went up again too. "It's okay Kai if it's making you feel bad better let it out, I'm not mad, I'd cook for you everytime you needed it or asked for, you're sick you can't help it"

And then the rest of the boys spent their afternoon keeping an eye on Kai and his fever, also making sure he didn't choke on his own vomit, having to change his sheets when some hours later his fever broke and they were all sweaty, also helping him change his clothes, handing him the sick bucket™ when necessary and cleaning it up afterwards, it was a team work they did everytime someone got sick, it was like a protocol on their friendship, always making sure that the sick one was fine.

After two more days Kai was feeling better, yes he still felt queasy and didn't have much appetite but for now he wasn't throwing up everywhere or crying in pain, at dance practice he sat out and continued resting on the couch, and of course he also had a rough time at vocal practice because his throat was still irritated due to all the puking, so Kai had to take it easy for now, focusing mainly on producing a couple of songs and writing some lyrics, practicing his japanese or just goofing around and playing some games, but at least he felt really better thanks to his best friends.

TXT on Maturing, Packing for the Act: PromiseTour, and Skin Care Essentials

Snapshot! is a Teen Vogue style series where we ask artists to take candid pics and share a glimpse of their style and beauty routines. In this installment, K-pop boy group TXT takes Teen Vogue behind the scenes at the New York stop of their Act: Promise tour.

When the members of Tomorrow X Together (TXT) aren’t attending Fashion Week — whether on the runway or in the front row — they’re jet-setting on tour. However, it's an equally chic occasion — and their latest tour, Act: Promise, is proof of that.

Across the United States tour dates, the concerts’ carefully crafted stages encapsulated the K-pop group’s five-year journey in just a few hours for fans, known as MOA, to experience together. The styling plays a major role in doing so, from their grand entrance with “Deja Vu” to their low-key looks for the youthful anthem “Cat & Dog.”

While the members — Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai — make it look seamless on stage, touring isn’t an easy feat. Preparations for concerts may start months before in Seoul with fittings and dress rehearsals but continue until the very last outfit change backstage and even when the members are doing skin care after the show. To learn about it all and soak up the backstage buzz, Teen Vogue caught up with TXT before their sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York City on June 1, 2024.

Back in 2019, TXT was first introduced to the world with bright colors, playful patterns, and skinny jeans with their “Crown” music video. Now, the group is known to have a more elevated style with nods to punk and grunge aesthetics. “Because it's been some years since we debuted, I think I would describe it as a journey of growing and being mature, so we definitely see maturing changes in our aesthetics,” Taehyun tells Teen Vogue via an interpreter.

“I wouldn't say it was a radical change, but it was more like a gradual change and gradual being mature and growing. I would say after our second LP, our style definitely got a little more mature than before,” he adds, referring to their album The Chaos Chapter:Freeze, which features the hit single “0X1=Lovesong (I Know I Love You).”

On this tour, the setlist visits each of the group’s chapters, but rather than in chronological order, the arrangement and coordinating outfits explore a motif. “Each show has five sections, and each section has a distinctive theme,” Hueningkai explains. “Our look and our outfits also changed according to the theme.”

For their grand entrance, the group emerges on the stage clad in lace cloaks while wearing white trousers and gray blazers, accentuated by harnesses and chain links, combining their princely charms and pop punk sounds. Within the same section, the members make a quick outfit change to pay homage to their South Korean culture. “We have the song ‘Sugar Rush Ride’ rearranged with Korean traditional instruments, and we also dress in Korean traditional costumes,” Hueningkai says, referring to the hanbok.

The next section, marked by the hit songs “Magic” and “Trust Fund Baby,” showcases the members' more casual side. They are clad in relaxed-fit jeans and designer graphic tee shirts. Whereas they typically wear baby blue varsity jackets with bedazzled wings for this part of the show, for that weekend, the group wore New York Rangers gear, a nod to Madison Square Garden’s home team.

As the group splits up for their unit stages, the youngest members, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai, shed the jackets and rock out to “Quarter Life” in simple ‘fits. Meanwhile, the eldest, Soobin and Yeonjun, change into belted black and white tank tops, respectively, for their performance of “The Killa.” Promptly after the duet and before “Back For More,” they put on sparkly black jackets and rejoin the youngest members who are already wearing the same. Taehyun favors this part of the show for its versatility. “When the light gets dark, we can change the [jacket] really quick, so it gives more variations to the outfit,” he confesses.

As Taehyun notes, the members switch into a more grunge look shortly after. “We wear leather jackets for the third section where we perform ‘Puma.’ Because I think the leather jackets go very well with us all and it just gives off a really hip vibe, I like that one,” Beomgyu says.

The last look of the night comes with the encore, a time the group utilizes to engage and make more memories with MOAs. Their choice of clothing highlights this. Swapping their more extravagant costuming for more casual, fun looks, the group wears hoodies and T-shirts from their merch collection for the tour with classic blue jeans and a simple accessory or two. This look is Hueningkai’s favorite as the comfy, casual nature suits him.

When asked to describe his personal style, “hoodie and jeans” is Hueningkai’s response. His style prioritizes practicality, just like Taehyun, who adds, “I would say I like various styles, but I would say I would choose comfort over fashion.” Fitting for the early June climate in NYC, he explains, “For example, I don't wear long sleeves in hot weather.”

“Like Taehyun said earlier, I like a variety of stuff, but recently, I refer to the street fashion in the UK or Japan,” Yeonjun says. His off-stage looks this tour have consisted of chunky sneakers, layers, and baggy silhouettes for an effortless yet cool look. “I definitely refer to his style. I sometimes try to follow his style,” Hueningkai says in admiration of the eldest.

Soobin and Beomgyu lean towards a more preppy side. Both seem to have their wardrobe essentials figured out. “I like clean-cut style,” Beomgyu says. “Recently, I've been purchasing a lot of wide-leg pants.” Soobin adds, “I also like neat and clean-cut style, so most of my items are button-up shirts.”

Having a practical sense of style does have its benefits on tour. At this point, it seems like the TXT members are pros at the art of packing to be on the road for prolonged periods of time. “It doesn't take that long to pack because we're constantly on a tour,” Beomgyu says. “Sometimes I just leave my luggage packed and just add a little more items to them. For example, a few tops, a few bottoms, a few shoes. But I make sure that I do have my personal makeup tools or makeup items, like cleansers. For those things, I make sure that I do have my own stuff.”

For Hueningkai, it takes a little bit of research. “When I pack for a tour, I definitely make sure that I check the weather because you want your clothes to fit the weather there,” he explains. “For example, if you're traveling to a city where the temperature is high, you make sure you have short sleeves and really light materials.”

The Name Chapter: Freefall Logo Analysis and Predictions

uh? who would have thought, not me 🥸

you guessed it, it's TXT LORE O'CLOCK! let's start with the new logo motion because there's already a bunch to unpack here 👀

we see the Star shining brightly behind the Temptation logo

the Temptation logo literally disintegrates and the original one, the "X", shows up below it: TXT are now free from Temptation, it's not making their brain foggy anymore, the fake fantasy they were in is dissolving. This was represented in the Farwell, Neverland poster as well (in a sec we'll go back to it)

the logo is FREE FALLING, exactly what TXT are doing: falling back down to earth from Neverland ...and it's not a nice fall, they literally shatter the ground 🥲 we saw some big damage made after a fall like this already 👀 it was in Ox1=Lovesong Japanese Ver. music video (see picture below)

finally, the logo takes its new form, and so does TXT: let's put some bandages (literally Beomgyu) over those scars and OH LOOK THE STAR AGAIN!! Looks like TXT are finally going to remember their true names and the promise they made as children 😎

we also have the color palette for this album: blu as the sky, white as the star, brown/beige as the ground... the same palette they used for the 0x1=Lovesong music video now that i see the picture close to eachother 😮

so let's analyze them!

1) CONCEPT TRAILER

RECAP: after what we saw in Sugar Rush Ride, TXT should leave Neverland/Magic Island because they're too grown up now to keep living in that fantasy. In the concept trailer it's when they jump out of the falling house, the fall back from their hideout in Neverland to the real world... BUT, they'll all have to fight eachother and their inner demons to accept the reality of things now, as we saw in Beomgyu's vision.

2) FAREWELL, NEVERLAND

1) this was my analysis of its poster:

Because of the symbolism of the butterfly and the seasons motif (see my summary for my explanation), since in Sugar Rush Ride it was summer in Neverland, i think that in the next album we are going to have autumn like in Blue Hour, or anyway colder weather.

*months later* And now, WHEN does the new album come out?? October 😌 the timeline is timelining.

here's a little summary anyway:

🎶 Neverland, my love, goodbye now / And I'm free falling / Stars, sleep with comfort / 'Til I be calling 🎶

TXT accept that they have to leave Neverland and they fall back down to the real world. Yeonjun's says that "stars" can "sleep" comfortably until TXT are going to be "calling" them: this is of course a reference to the Star, that is still asleep and is going to wake up only when TXT sing the promise song.

In the concept trailer we saw that TXT are leaving Neverland at sunset, like they always do: Blue Hour is the time of the day when the border between the magical and the real world is tinner and they are able to travel between the two.

And what comes after sunset? Night, of course.

so now let's now take a look at...

3) FAREWELL CONCEPT PICS

First of all, it is night ✨ 👀

each one of them is holding a lantern like in this scene of Sugar Rush Ride:

I'm pretty sure the lantern references the Star, txt's guide/compass to move through life.

And let's not forget that to enter and exit Neverland in Peter Pan you need the "the second star on the right" and they're all holding the lantern with their right hand.

The fact that the night approaching in time is showed through the solo pictures in this exact order is not casual either: we have Yeonjun (there's still some light), Kai, Soobin, Beomgyu and Taehyun (it's pitch black).

Yeonjun true name is "promise": he has to be the one to keep hope alive in the group and persevere to find the star. While Taehyun saw the dangers the future holds through the premonitions (in Eternally mv) so he's not very hopeful towards it.

This is also the exact same order as that of TXT fighting in the labyrinth in Beomgyu's vision in the TNC concept trailer (i explained in the storyline summary):

Taehyun is last one who's defeated (or surrenders) and from the Farewell concept pics that's not looking so good... another interesting detail is that Taehyun's boat is the only one flipped around:

Seems like he's not going to make it, or rather his youth is not going to: he's the one that's going to fully lose his youthful self and fully face adulthood. This was hinted by his object in the Nightmare concept pics: an hourglass. He's afraid of time passing and aging, most of all.

AND, all of this also explains why in 0x1=Lovesong Japanese Ver. he has wings and disappears at the end of the music video!

If you read my summary you already know, but my theory is that 0x1=Lovesong Japanese music video (click to watch) fits after Temptation and comes with the second part of The Name Chapter. We literally see them falling from the sky! and now that we know that the next TNC album is called Freefall looks like the dots are connecting! 😈

Finally, let's unpack this silly little image they gave us in January...

Since Temptation, being the name of the first album of The Name Chapter, is written in cursive, a very diffused theory was that the words written in the same fonts were the titles of the next two albums: Promise and Unmagic...

LOOKS LIKE THEY FOOLED US🤡

i had a feeling they were deceiving us with this one, it couldn't be this easy, they couldn't have gave away such a big anticipation... but hey, these silly little words still have some kind of importance ☝👀

— Loadstar means "a star that leads or guides, especially (used for) the north star". We just talked about the Star symbolised by the lantern being their guide 👀👍

— Promise is the name of the train that took TXT to Magic Island/Neverland in Sugar Rush Ride, but it's also Yeonjun’s true name, and it refers as well to the promise TXT made with eachother and the Star... and it looks like, in the next album, TXT are finally going to remember it... CAN I GET AN HALLELUJAH? 👼🏻

So these signs were a summary: on Neverland's Ground, TXT are under Temptation through the Sugar Rush Ride. Nowhere can they found their Loadstar, but they need to remember the Promise they made with her. This will lead them Down to Eart, to a world of Unmagic.

these are pretty long so i'm putting them behind a read-more hehe

story planning:

while we've gotten plenty of yeonjun in prince outfits over the years, the main inspiration for this fic is yeonjun's opening outfit in act: sweet mirage! i saw that and was like "oh man he would be SO DASHING as a prince 😍" and just went from there

if you've been here from the start, you might know that i didn't originally plan make a series! i just word-vomited the first chapter (well, what became the first chapter) directly into tumblr's post editor because the thought of prince!yeonjun wouldn't leave me alone, especially after seeing a few other prince/commoner and prince/servant fics floating around lol. chapter 1 is also the only chapter made using tumblr's legacy editor rather than their new one (which is also why the cover pics are one big edited photo and not 3 separate photos, i couldn't figure out how to get 3 photos to line up in the legacy editor).

i honestly did not expect people to read chapter 1 but they did!! and they liked the idea!! plus even after writing chapter 1 i STILL couldn't get the idea out of my head so i decided to write it as a full story. i've written plenty of oneshots before under my (non-kpop) ao3 account, but this is my first multichapter series! so i opened google docs and made a quick outline of the story's main events.

the original outline for foec had 6 chapters + 2 endings, but as i wrote the story, i realized that more detail and scenes were needed than what i initially outlined! chapters 3 and 4 (ball preparations + the ball / gazebo dance scene) were supposed to be one chapter. chapters 5 and 6 (y/n hanging out with the chois + getting caught + punishment + intro of arranged marriage) were also supposed to be one chapter. chapters 7-9 (end of friendship, reconciling with soogyu, y/n & beomgyu talk) were also supposed to be one chapter!

i actually started writing the bad ending first before the good ending -- my reasoning was that if i were the reader, i would want to save the good ending for last so that i could end the series on a positive note. i was very surprised when people voted for the good ending first in the poll LMAO also as far as i'm concerned, both endings are canon in a "branching timeline" kind of way. they are both the real ending! i do have a soft spot for the good ending but also i love angst too much to not write a bad ending haha.

honestly most of the story beats from my original outline made it into the final fic! the biggest change has to do with queen hwayoung's and princess ajin's roles in the story (more on that below).

character notes:

when i was first brainstorming i really wanted to include both taehyun and hueningkai in the story as well, but i struggle with writing ensemble casts and choi line + y/n (+ the supporting characters in the castle) were already enough for me to handle. soobin and beomgyu were the easiest for me to incorporate into the story since they have the same last name and i could go "oh in this universe they're part of the same royal house hence the same last name" HAHA. i do imagine that the house of choi princes are also friends with tyunning (kai does get alluded to in chapter 9), but they're off doing their own adventures.

some of little moments in the fic were inspired by actual things txt have done in variety shows! yeonjun, y/n, soobin, and beomgyu playing cards in chapter 5 is based off to do ep. 53 where they also play cards. soogyu playing badminton in chapter 8 is inspired by gbgb era idol human theater where they played a little badminton by the pool. and there are a lot more small character quirks that are inspired by gifs or fancams i've seen of them haha.

queen hwayoung and princess ajin were originally not supposed to be part of the story! my original idea was the have the arranged marriage subplot be heard secondhand by through advisers so that it feels like an invisible force pulling yeonjun away from y/n. but i needed to make the threat of the arranged marriage stronger and ended up writing the scene with queen hwayoung in it for chapter 6.

princess ajin especially was a late addition -- originally she was never supposed to appear at all, never visiting the castle and only speaking through her mom / royal advisors, so there was that threat of yeonjun being married off to someone he's never even met. but after looking through the feedback of chapter 6 i realized that i kinda-sorta accidentally made setup for her oops. people were wondering what she'd be like, and it would feel too anticlimactic to never have her appear in the story, so i wrote her in. which i don't regret because i did enjoy writing her big scene in chapter 10!

speaking of which: a friend of mine asked what happens to princess ajin, and honestly i wanted to give her proper closure too! but i couldn't find a way to fit it into the story in a way that felt natural. if you ask me though, she gains some level of political independence from her mom (represented by her visiting the castle in the good ending). she still marries for political reasons, to a prince or nobleman who is also in it for the politics, and at first they treat their marriage as a business partnership. eventually they grow close and form a devoted "i'd do anything for you" bond -- not necessarily romantic in nature, but caring in its own way. (i'm describing a queerplatonic relationship basically)

tbh i don't have the energy to write another multichapter right now, but i would love to see spinoff fics for soobin and beomgyu or even taehyun and kai as princes in their own kingdoms! so if you're reading this and you want to do it, you have my blessing <3

flower notes:

while some chapter titles were planned around a specific flower representing the events & progression of the story, others were not (because of the chapter splits i talked about earlier) and i just chose whatever flower was in it lol. the planned chapter title flowers are: yellow roses (ch2), pink roses (ch4), sunflowers (ch5), striped carnations (ch7) , purple hyacinths (ch9), red roses (ch10), daffodils (GE), and white lilies (BE). the unplanned title flowers are: irises (ch1), lilies of the valley (ch3), red and purple zinnias (ch6), sweet peas (ch8).

i mostly used this website as a reference for the language of flowers, BUT i also double check with one or two other websites to make sure i'm getting an established flower meaning and not something made up! when i started fic planning i made a list of flowers with meanings that fit the main story beats and character progressions, then picked the ones with the most established meanings (i.e. supported by multiple "language of flowers" websites) and/or the ones that were appropriate for the growing season.

even though i wrote a disclaimer not to pay attention to botanical accuracy re: seasonal flowering times, i originally envisioned the fic to take place over the spring. then when it got longer, i imagined it taking place over spring and summer, so i tried (keyword: tried) to choose seasonally appropriate flowers or flowers that bloom year-round. this is hard for me because i live in a tropical country. i have never seen a lot of these flowers in person because they don't grow in the climate here, and i have no idea what a four-season year feels like. so i decided not to put time-of-year markers in the fic and leave the season ambiguous, and added that disclaimer about the flowers' accuracy.

an example of this: chapter 9 is named after purple hyacinths. i first decided on this back when the story was only supposed to take place during the spring, since hyacinths are a spring flower. i considered naming it after hydrangeas because they mean something like "thank you for understanding" (i.e. y/n going "thank you for understanding what a hard position i'm in" to yeonjun), and also because they're one of my favorite flowers. but i wasn't sure about their seasonal appropriateness since some sources said that they bloom during early summer so i changed it to hyacinths. BUT THEN the fic got long and i started imagining that the later chapters take place in the summer SO the hyacinths ended up being seasonally inappropriate after all! and hydrangeas would have been more appropriate! especially since txt literally has a song called hydrangea love out aarghhh noooo but anyway it is what it is

other flowers that didn't make the cut + their meanings: sweet william (gallantry), alstroemeria (friendship or devotion), freesia (friendship, thoughtfulness), white tulips (forgiveness, consideration, respect), thyme (courage, strength)

other notes:

the key lime pie in chapter 6 is based on a real pie that i ate at my friend's house when i visited her there and i thought it was the most delicious thing i have ever eaten. in the original draft it was a lemon tart!

i wanted to keep this series strictly sfw, but i did consider making both the good and bad endings have suggestive, fade-to-black scenes. for the good ending, the suggestive part would have involved y/n in yeonjun's room the night after their speech / before waking up together. for the bad ending, it would have happened when yeonjun visits y/n's quarters. i didn't write them bc i... am not good with anything suggestive or nsfw klsadjfklasjd

at first dramatic, almost yelling

even taehyun was like “you’re gonna wake her up 😐”

swooshes his hands millimetres from your face to check if you’re really asleep

“tsk. i guess she really is sleeping” beomgyu rolled his eyes and leaned away. taehyun smiled wildly upon seeing his friend’s lovestruck expression “aish, y/n… you’re so gonna have neck cramps. and that only happens if you sleep on anyone else other than me-!”

beomgyu gently tucked a loose strand of your hair behind your ear since it stuck to the corner of your mouth.

“she’s working so hard lately” he murmured and smiled gently, nodding his head “i’ll leave her alone, i guess”

“what about me? i need to piss…” taehyun grumbled, causing gyu to laugh quietly.

“welp, that’s not my problem” he sing-sung, sticking his tongue out in a teasing manner.

he sat next to you, chatting with taehyun; his eyes checking up on you every time you moved even a bit.

actually he won’t let you live once you’re awake

like please just for your own good shut him up (the choice how you do it is up to you though 🤭🤭)

but at the end of the day will give you a lecture that if you’re tired you should nap on a bed or couch… or at least if you’re going for a shoulder, pick his :(

he’s shocked and kind of… in a pickle

yes, it bugs him you’re sleeping on soobin but also he won’t let it show

soobin though, he’s almost pissing himself because taehyun’s stare is frightening

but terry has a smart idea to work his way through it

“what?” taehyun asked soobin, standing in front of you two, who was looking at him with wide eyes

“i promise i didn’t do this on purpose she just seemed sleepy” the leader spat out words at the speed of light

“soobin, that’s fine but just…” taehyun sighed dramatically and sat down, knee touching yours “…don’t mind if i do…”

he gently snuck his hand between your head and soobin’s arm, lightly pulling you the other way so your head plopped down onto him. he placed the other hand at the back of your head, adjusting the position into the crook of his neck. you didn’t budge a bit and your peaceful breath hit his skin.

“much better, hm?” taehyun hummed, leaning his head back and closing his eyes as well.

you’re so confused once you’re awake but his smug smirk tells it all

will massage your neck if you have cramps… only if you ask him prettily and he’s satisfied enough >:T

doesn’t give you a lecture because ''you do you'', you can’t control your sleepiness but he did say something between lines of

“if you’re tired then i can lend you a shoulder… and maybe scratch your head a bit. soobin won’t do that though”

he’d feel a bit sad upon seeing you snoozing on yeonjun’s shoulder

but he won’t say a thing

he’ll just smile at yeonjun and sit next to you, hand hesitantly shifting - should he grab your hand or not? he doesn’t want you to wake up…

and yeonjun feels so bad about this whole situation like 😭😭

“kai?” yeonjun asked quietly, looking at his friend. the younger’s eyes sparkled with curiosity “can you move closer? i need to call someone and i don’t want to wake her up…”

“sure sure” kai hummed, trying to hide his grin. he shuffled closer and yeonjun stood up slowly, your head plopping down. they both snorted at it. you opened your eyes lazily, looking at kai confused; he just cooed softly “hi there”

you sighed and leaned into kai, mumbling something quietly.

“go back to sleep” hyuka whispered, caressing your hair.

yeonjun almost had to bite his fist to prevent himself from screaming at the cuteness. he left the room, clueless to the fact that he left the phone on the couch.

he quietly sings you to sleep but only if the boys aren’t around

would rather you used his fav plushie as a pillow than someone else’s arm :(

please cover him in kisses once you’re awake just to prevent him from overthinking

but i do feel like if you looked funny or your head slid down… or you snored OR JUST whatever…

hi! i have a request for jay or sunghoon:)

i was thinking of a high school au where one of the boys are in the basketball team for their school. they have a rival school and jay/hoon also have a rival component (it can be someone from enha or txt) and they both want y/n🤭🤭 y/n can be close to both of them since they’re a reporter for their high school and have followed all their games since they report them

so basically i was thinking it ends where like jay/hoon win the game and they get the courage to confess from the rush of winning<3

includes: high school au, poor basketball knowledge, i forgot what a dunk was and spent like five minutes googling it (is it even a dunk ??), blushy hoon, enha teasing hoon, txt cameos, chose beomgyu as hoon's rival but it's a good rivalry like they're friends they just play for different schools yk

a/n: choosing hoon for this bc this man will not let me live in peace /lh thank you so much for requesting !! it means so much that you enjoy my writing <33 this was such a cute idea, i hope you enjoy it :))

additional note: i used to be part of the yearbook club for a few years so i had to take pics of volleyball games so i have a little bit of experience with this i am aware that you don't scroll through cameras but i couldn't think of another word for it okay

requests open !! read my rules first

the referee blowing the whistle is your cue to prepare to start taking more pictures. you keep the camera close to your face, snapping multiple pictures at a time. beomgyu dribbles the ball, effortlessly guiding it along the floor as he runs to the other side of the court. he jumps, grabbing onto the rim and forcing it down through the net. 

cheers erupt from the crowd behind you. you continue on, photographing his team rushing to where he is. they wrap their arms around each other, jumping in celebration. a small smile spreads across your face at the joy that radiates from all of them. 

nearby, sunghoon sighs, leaning down on his hands. though his team lost the point, that’s not the reason why his lips quirk downwards into a slight frown. he leans forwards onto his hands, subtly looking at you through his fringe. 

“it’s okay hyung,” sunoo says, patting his shoulder. he drops his voice, leaning in as if they’re strategizing. “talk to them after they finish. you know they always make time for you.” 

sunghoon hopes the audience assumes his flushed face is from the game. their cheers quiet down when the referee blows the whistle again, announcing another round. sunoo squeezes his shoulder before he makes his way back to his own position. 

sunghoon glances over at you again. this time you notice him, smiling and raising your fist in a small ‘fighting!’ gesture. he nods, leaning back onto his knees. he takes a deep breath, letting himself refocus completely on the game. everything else seems to fade away - the audience cheers, his coach yelling, the pressure from everywhere around him, even you and how nervous you make him. he lets the tension relax from his shoulders. 

he isn’t park sunghoon, star basketball player constantly pinned against choi beomgyu who needs to live up to his reputation. he’s a teenage boy playing the sport he fell in love with secretly hoping it impresses the cute reporter standing at the other end of the court. 

“sunghoon!” the ball feels light in his hands as jungwon passes it over. he dodges kai’s blocking attempt, running past yeonjun and taehyun as he jumps, shooting for the hoop. he scores. 

the audience all but explodes. elation spreads through him as he pants. the referee holds her hands up, announcing their win. beside him, beomgyu holds out a hand. “congratulations,” he smiles.

sunghoon takes it, letting beomgyu pull him into a quick hug. “you too.” he quickly bows at soobin before his team swarms him, all of them trapped in a giant group hug. he laughs as they repeatedly pat his back and shoulders. 

“good job everyone,” jungwon pants. “we all did well.” 

“let’s get cleaned up,” heeseung smiles. “we could all use a shower.” 

sunghoon looks over his shoulder to where you’re standing. beomgyu is leaning down to look at your camera as you scroll through the various photos you’ve taken during the night. little pangs of jealousy sting him. “i’ll be right there.” 

he ignores the teasing “good luck” from jay, pushing his hair back as he makes his way over to you and beomgyu. beomgyu notices him first. “hey sunghoon.” 

“hi hoon!” you perk up immediately, stepping towards him to wrap him into a hug. he wraps his arms around you, relishing in your touch. your actions ease some of the jealousy that still lingers. “great job out there today! you were incredible!” 

sunghoon laughs, shaking his head. “thank you.” 

“i was just showing beomgyu some of the photos from tonight, do you want to see?” he glances over at said boy, a silent question passing between them. 

“you go ahead, i should get cleaned up anyways,” beomgyu smiles. “besides, it’ll be a long bus ride back home.” 

“i’ll see you later, gyu,” you call as he leaves. 

“see you hyung.” beomgyu gives him a small wink before he exits the gym. 

now mostly alone with you, sunghoon leans over your shoulder as you scroll back through the variety of pictures from the night. he can recognize some of the moments from them - beomgyu’s dunk, him leaning down on his knees, his winning shot, beomgyu’s high five, and his team celebrating. 

“i was thinking of using this one,” you murmur, moving back to a specific photo. it’s of sunghoon in mid-air during the winning shot of the night. even he has to admit that he looks good in the shot, even without editing. “mrs. lee wants the headline piece to be about the game tonight. i was hoping you could help me with basketball terms.” 

“of course,” sunghoon smiles. he hadn’t realized how close you’re standing until you look over your shoulder at him. your back is nearly against his chest. he blushes, refocusing back on the camera in your hands. it feels intimate but neither of you move away. he clears his throat a little awkwardly. “are you coming to the game tomorrow night?” 

“looks like it,” you sigh. “mrs. lee wants to assign me to sports.” 

“and that’s… bad?” despite your disappointment at the idea, a small part of him is excited at the possibility of being able to spend more time with you. 

“just not a huge fan of the screaming,” you shrug. “at least i’ll have you with me.” 

sunghoon can’t help the smile that spreads across his face. he’s grateful that you don’t comment on how quickly his ears redden, though he’s sure you can tell. “yeah?” 

“yeah,” you smile. “you make everything better.” 

he’s saved from the embarrassment of his blush deepening further when the door swings open. “sunghoon,” his coach calls. “the showers are open if you’re ready.” 

“yeah, yeah,” he nods before turning back to you. “so, i’ll see you tomorrow?” 

“you’ll see me tomorrow,” you confirm.

the giddiness builds in sunghoon as he leaves for the showers, letting the cool water calm him down. he washes up quickly, rinsing the sweat from his body and hair before throwing on an old pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt he brought with him. 

niki, jake, heeseung, and jungwon have already finished showering when he exits, rummaging through his bag to put his uniform away. “that was an awfully long talk with y/n,” niki says. “did you finally do it?” 

sunghoon purses his lips, pretending to continue looking for something in his bag. “no.” 

jake sits up, looking over at him. “really? you should. it’s really obvious they like you.” 

“sunoo said that too,” he sighs, sitting down on the bench next to them. “do you really think so?” 

“like jake said, it’s pretty obvious.” heeseung chuckles. “they flirt with you pretty much every time you guys interact.” 

this makes him pause, looking over at his friends. “do you think they know i like them?” 

“you look like a lovesick fool whenever they glance in your direction,” niki laughs. “i’m sure they know already.” 

“ah,” he playfully swats at niki’s shoulder. 

“i think you should confess, hyung.” jungwon says, setting his phone aside. “you guys would be cute together.” 

sunghoon turns away, looking down at the ground. he lets their reassurances calm his nerves, thinking back on the interactions he’s had with you. all of the little things he brushed off as your friendly personality or shared experiences. with a final sigh, he nods. “alright. they asked for help with their report. i’ll ask them then.” 

heeseung pats his shoulder again. “that’s my boy.” 

sunghoon rolls his eyes, silently grateful for the push into finally telling you about how he feels. 

sunghoon is standing on the court across from beomgyu with a ball in his hand again sooner than he thinks. he can see you snapping photos in the corner of his eye. the rest of the game hinges on this shot. the scoreboard on the wall shows a large white timer, slowly counting down. only 30 seconds left. 

he takes a deep breath, willing his nerves to calm down. everything feels like it’s going too fast and too slow at the same time. suddenly all of the eyes on him are no longer friends and classmates. they don’t feel comforting and excited. they simply increase the pressure he feels all around him - like he’s drowning. like the air is slowly being stolen from his lungs. 

“hoon!” your sweet voice breaks him out of his anxiety induced trance. he looks at you fully this time, eyes meeting yours. you raise your fist once again to cheer him on. “you can do it!” 

sunghoon smiles, taking a deep breath. finally, he jumps, forcing the ball through the air towards the hoop. it spins as it bounces against the backboard before falling down through the net in a single fluid motion. 

the audience cheers slowly come back to reality. he waits for the referee to blow his whistle, the timer letting out a loud ring to announce the end of the game. this time he doesn’t wait for his friends to swarm him or to congratulate the other team. he acts purely on instinct, running over to you and wrapping his arms around you in a tight hug. you laugh, clinging onto his shoulders as he spins you around. he pulls back, looking down into your eyes. “i’m so in love with you.” 

your smile grows even larger before the words register to him. before he can react himself you pull him down, so your foreheads touch. “can i kiss you?” 

still somewhat in a trance, sunghoon nods. euphoria bursts through him when you finally lean up to press your lips against his in a sweet kiss. he brings a hand up to cup your cheek, coaxing you even closer and deepening it. you smile against his lips, pressing a final peck against them before pulling away. 

you’re both panting by the end of it, smiling at each other. “can i call you mine?” sunghoon finally asks. 

“i always have been.” unable to hide his excitement any longer, your - now boyfriend - pulls you into yet another kiss.
