I am honoured (and in tears) to introduce Project Calamity: A Prelude in the Divine, my first choice script game (WIP). Step into a World where fables and reality blurs, where heroism demands sacrifice, and where every choice you make shapes not only your own destiny, but that of the entire World.

I) Inaya Akil—The First Hero Candidate

“My sword can slay any evil. Huh? Who decides what’s evil? Pfttt... I do. W—Why are you looking at me like that? *Sigh*, If you insist, I will explain again... but say please first!”

With an angelic personality and a devil’s strength, Inaya is as terrifying as she is adorable. Behind her superiority complex and unsettling remarks lies a lonely soul, but take care to never mention that in front of her, or be confident enough in your finances to pay for your 6 month hospitalisation.

Will you be the one to challenge her ideals and melt her frosty heart?

II) Aiza Noor—The Second Hero Candidate

“Talent? Indeed, from society's perspective, all my achievements are the results of talent. No, it's the inevitable consequence of sleepless nights, buried desires, need of validation, and lofty expectations."

A prodigy in all things, from Tacticia to confectionery, the latest novel serialisation to frontier research, there's no field where her insights lack value. Lady Aiza is revered by nobles and commoners alike. Beneath her brilliance lies a mind burdened by secrets, and a heart weighed down by expectations.

III) Link Castell—The Third Hero Candidate

As the only Hero Candidate to reject enrollment in Maison Academy, Sattari is an enigma wrapped in charm and shadow. Some claim him/her a charming individual impossible to dislike, others a delusional crook too condescending to talk to, but all agree on one thing: never dig too deep into his/her personal life.

i know i have to go in and get some semblance of order within nima's backstory which i hate doing :( and also things being vague kind of benefits because nima doesn't even remember, and what little they do have, is always hazy. thinking too hard on it causes their headaches to start and it doesn't take long for headaches to turn to migraines and worse very rapidly, so they don't lol. lowkey a bit of a masochist though the way they will sometimes tempt the balance, like 'how much can i push myself'. they probably do this a fair bit in the inquisition by virtue of being stuck in thedas & feeling kind of miserable about it. and in those moments they definitely sequester themselves away because if they have to hear another concerned 'inquisitor are you alright? you look unwell' they are going to snap!!!!

but. anyways. some basics until i can get some lore shit actually written down concretely.

born from a long lineage of mages that were all but annihilated among many other mages during a war from a time before even nima was born. the only thing nima had* of their family was knowledge through their aunt who had not only survived and fought through the war but kept a sizeable number of books, tomes, family history and suppressed literature. emphasis on had because nima no longer HAS these, in fact, she doesn't even know that she has an aunt let alone that she's dead. i've often thought about the idea of. if, or when, nima regains her memory, she would have access those books, all that knowledge suppressed to her. not only through her memories but also by virtue of knowing the location, even then though.... it would be rather vague. but i figure her snake familiar would definitely know, and i don't have mhari in content enough. mhari can't convey this to nima though, because of The Consequences.

nima's mother died when they were about ... 3 or 4ish? i can't remember if i had an exact estimate, i think it was about their 3rd birthday. i know it was definitely on or around their birthday. they don't really celebrate their birthday or bring it up as a consequence, they couldn't tell you why that is post memory loss; to them, it's not something that really bears any importance. they do feel especially melancholic on that day though, they haven't figured out why, but they can tell as much that something may have happened & they take time to themselves on that day.

to expand more on their mother's death, she died in the streets, abandoned and with nothing but her ragged dress to keep nima tucked in warm and safe. on the day that she died, it was sweltering. there's no definitive on what nima's mother died from, a sort of sickness that never got treated. she didn't have the means, put far too much into nima's father who left her as soon as nima was born. but she was smart, too kind by half, but smart and reached out to her sister firuzeh (nima's aunt, one of the few remaining members of their family still alive and that she knew), pleading that she was gravely ill and to come collect nima. she knew she wouldn't last long & in truth, she didn't. not long after that letter, days, a few weeks maybe, at max two, did nima's mother die. & nima sat there, cradled in her mothers arms, crying for days. it was then that firuzeh found them, and took nima home with her.

firuzeh, who posed as more of a grandmother and mentor figure, was a strong woman. stern, knew what it meant to survive and rebel, took no nonsense and was somehow one of the kindest people nima had ever known. everything nima knew, they learned it from her. their family, their magic, their love of adventuring came from firuzeh who often regaled nima with stories of her travels. from traveling on ships with buccaneers, to climbing desert mountainscapes. nima also learned how to be sneaky, from tampering with bottles low enough to reach, to slipping out after dark or waking up early enough to climb out of their window. they exasperated their aunt to no end, but were able to get away with a great deal, and they knew it. firuzeh also taught nima about their mother, and very rarely their father, a man firuzeh had never liked--- couldn't stand him, never understood why their mother would go for a man like that. called it as she saw him, knew it would end poorly. she despised him.

truth be told, if not for firuzeh, nima might not be the person they are today. definitely not the mage they are now, in fact it's highly likely they would have been killed. had they survived on the streets long enough, they may not have survived being a mage--- not for lack of learning either, though that is always a serious risk, but magic was still outlawed and mage hunting a frequent enough occurrence. it lessened over the years, and eventually mage hunting was no longer legal nor acceptable, with magic soon finding its' way back 'into fashion' as it were. with that being said, firuzeh taught nima to be smart, careful above all else, to never rely on anyone. she could be heavy handed with nima at times, but it kept nima sharp, and ensured they would survive in a world as cruel as the one firuzeh had been a first hand witness to. for firuzeh knew that she would not always be there to guide nima and told them as such.

nima's childhood wasn't all bad, though! they actually had a fair bit of fond memories from it. firuzeh ran a store, general on the surface with various trinkets and seasonings( albeit to those in the know, it catered to a variety of magical goods and oddities); a store which nima would later inherit and run by themself. but until that point, they mostly spent their time 'terrorizing' their aunt, and sneaking out when they were sure firuzeh wasn't looking (firuzeh always knew). she also had a penchant for taking nima out around town, to the docks, particularly when she had to restock. she had once, in fact, left nima astray to find their way around the market themself, watching from the shadows & only showing her face when it proved to be too much for them; it hammered in the point well enough. they needed independence. eventually, it became something of a game for them, stoking nima's competitive fire, with nima becoming better at it the more they played--- enough so, that nima would be sent on errands & tasks around the city, retrieving what their aunt needed. in nima's earlier years, firuzeh would also lie about where the two were, often tricking nima into believing they were somewhere completely other. after all, firuzeh knew the city like the back of their hand. it stopped as nima became more adept at reading the city and learning how to travel, though she'd still bring it up every so often to which nima would respond with a derisive snort.

beyond that, though! nima would spend a great deal of time wandering hidden alleyways, gaps, and small corners only children can find their way into. the magical little hideouts found by younglings. it was in those sandy streets near their small home that nima found their love of snakes! there were a fair few near where they lived, less so in the city and even further the deeper you went in to the more ... extravagant areas. but that was fine by them, ever the curious soul that they were. more often than not, they were the sole defender OF the snakes in that area, between children their age or younger harassing the creatures with sticks to adults ruthlessly knocking them aside with their boots. nima very quickly became acquainted to loss, and learned to take care of any injured snakes that they found, burying the ones that they could not save. eventually, as their magic grew and so too their knowledge of the town they lived near, they would often relocate and try to house any stray snakes safely away from town--- near enough to the general area, so as not to remove them from their overall habitat, but away from the towns area. injured snakes, they would attempt to heal, but sometimes it simply wasn't enough. to quote an old headcanon of mine,

"finding dead snakes is always a sad burden for her as well tbh, it’s not very often but it still happens, especially if she can feel their energy slowly fade out– it’s genuinely heart breaking for her; however she always makes sure to give them a pleasant burial among the flowers."

sad as it was, it contributed much to their ideology, a realistic but optimistic individual and only furthered her desire to be kind for she had seen what cruelness wrought. what less, then, did it mean to be kind?

not all was sad, however. her life, a string of misfortunes and fortunes both! for it was during her childhood, amid those days when she would sneak out to explore, that she met her friend and soon to be lover. an urchin, without much to their name, she would creep away to meet up with them and share what she could. the two were utterly inseparable, and much like nima, they were a mage themself. inbetween years, they would travel, often returning to nima with a gift from their travels and much more learned; urging nima to join them. eventually, she did! and the two traveled all over, with nima being sure to return home throughout that time. in those moments, her partner would continue to travel, and the two would meet up again to continue when nima concluded her home visits.

of course, nima took over shop eventually, and the two of them ran it together. during low seasons the two would travel, in their busiest times nima would tend shop and their partner would travel, being sure to bring back knowledge and trinket alike. nima would also become a mage advisor to royalty at some point, her and her partners input becoming something of a highly valuable resource amid various kingdoms.

aaaaaaaand then we, naturally, reach the plague which ravaged her home and the neighbouring kingdoms. which she cured! not without pleading and begging from her partner to escape, something that she vehemently refused knowing full well the risks involved with how highly contagious it was. she died, was revived by her partner who sought out the help of a god, and then spends a good few years in a fugue state;

every time her partner tried to remind her of who she was, it forced her to shut down. things in this period of her life are still quite vague, but somewhere between stabilizing her enough to be functional, they left her with a group that they knew of, knew enough that they would take care of her, and departed. whether they left to die, or to save nima from constant suffering, is unknown. in fact, she barely even remembers what they look like, scantest traces. only told by those taking care of her that they were a mentor to her (at the behest of their partner before they departed).

eventually, when nima has regained some semblance of normalcy, she leaves. never one to rely on others for too long, and begins the search to discover who she is with naught but herself and mhari to keep her company. somewhere in that time after she leaves, she rediscovers worldhopping by chance, and spends the rest of her time up to present exploring the different realms between.

I don't mind as long as it isn't spammed.

For example, if you see I have updated on the progress or someone asked me about it a few days ago, it's probably a good idea to wait some time before asking.

And well, since you have asked (and I love yapping about my story anyways):

1. I have finished the shopping trip (absolute delight to write) for all the ROs. I hadn't done this long a branch before so it was a bit troubling, but I managed.

2. Chapter 4 in its entirety is almost finished.

3. I finished Friuz/Firuzeh's first relationship event, and also Inaya's second relationship event (Originally, I wanted to do Aiza's but I got a REAL GOOD idea for Inaya's second one so I wrote that).

4. Chapter 5 is another beast to tackle so that will definitely take a fair bit of time—though knowing myself, I will probably sacrifice some other activity to finish it earlier.

. The faeries all have their own fae language when conversing each other, and they all fear, adore and respect Maleficent ( who literally is the Queen of the Dark Fae in Sleeping Beauty. Cmon now )

. The sea folk staff all think Ursula is ' wickedly cool '

. Gaston tried to hit on Firuzeh and Firuzeh rejects him ( duh ) and eventually chose Jafar. Jafar hexed Gaston for calling Firuzeh a sexist disparaging remark IN FRONT OF EVERYONE ELSE. And Gaston never bothered Firuzeh again

. Hades and Persephone are usually cool with the staff, especially those Greek dryads and underworld spirits that work there. Those spirits know not to mess with Hades, but they ALL adore and respect Persephone. Aw

. The German wizards and witches all roll their eyes at how vain Grimhilde is

. Alistair turns out to be Dr Facilier's son! ( harkening to how Alastor in Hazbin's dad is a Dr Facilier parody ). Dr Facilier sometimes comes by to see his son at work and bring word on how Mrs Facilier ( an Esther LeFevre parody ) is doing. Mrs Facilier also comes by sometimes

. Frollo never comes by. The Cursed Cafe literally banned him cuz Frollo is gonna try destroy it if he sees it

. ALL of the staff are scared shitless of Scar.

. The Hindu spirits of the staff all treated Shere Khan and his tiger clan with deference. Whenever they come by, they instantly straighten up and such

i owe a lot of this to @/rhythmic-idealist's kankri/vantasposting bc holy shit theyve got such a big brain (ill link to their individual posts when im on desktop since im using this to keep all my thoughts straight and i agree with most of what they say wholeheartedly)

general status quo stuff:

signless works in an extremely demanding career involving helping others (i'm leaning towards an attorney who works with organizations and does pro bono work), and is also extensively involved in social justice work outside of his job... he is very rarely home

he loves and cares for his children deeply and tries to express it whenever they're face to face, but the couch in his cramped and messy office has seen far too much use over the years for him to have been able to say it enough

his habits of working himself to the point of exhaustion are handily passed down to his kids btw

the kids had to grow up quickly because signless was out of the house so often and so consistently—kankri, who was already pretty high-strung, has to learn to take care of himself and karkat

they grow up near ms firuzeh maryam, who's their pseudoaunt/grandma (she took in a nine year old kavana vantas when she was about twenty), but they just call her ms rosa

they spent a lot of time in the maryam house growing up, with miss rosa's two nieces. porrim is a year older than kankri, while kanaya and karkat are the same age

kankri grows kinda sensitive to people trying to mother him since it rubs against the notion that he's the "adult of the house" and that he can take care of himself and karkat just fine

(and it also kinda underlines the fact that kankri has no idea what he's doing at the best of times)

and ironically enough, kankri becomes overbearing and naggy towards karkat in his own right, which forestalls them becoming close in any brotherly sort of way

they grow up really just... unable to communicate with one another clearly

karkat develops his ornery exterior in response to kankri's constant stream of opinions and frantic attempts at making up for the presence of a guardian in the house

i think there would actually be some really interesting parallels with rose in this au.. maybe i'm drawing from my own experiences as well but i think he'd begin to assume that every time his brother opens his mouth, he's going to criticize karkat

but instead of reacting like rose with the "making yourself more of a puzzle"/passive aggressive stuff, he gets a more defensive/hackles raised/"argue with you before you can argue with me" approach

and the thing is that they do love each other and would take a bullet for the other etc etc etc.. but they don't know how to express it because they've fallen into these shitty patterns

and it really doesn't help that kankri has grown somewhat resentful of signless over the years... that mix of resentment and fear and love gets more extreme and more polar every time signless gets injured during a political demonstration

i think kankri and signless would also be slightly closer than karkat and signless, as signless' job really only started to ramp up when karkat was less than years old and kankri was in his early double digits

karkat has a pet crab. its name is also karkat. he vents his frustrations to it.

i feel like the vantases exemplify both the best and worst parts of their aspects with one another as well... the strength of their bonds keeps them together and grounded, but TOO grounded. [insert Blood rant here]

the Blood rant:

i define Blood as bonds, responsibility, and the "core". if Life is the fertile soil and everything living on a planet's surface, then Blood is the gravitational core of the planet keeping everything together

i also think Blood, Heart, & Mind work in tandem to define a person just as blood serves to connect the pieces of the human body... Heart is the soul and the self, Mind is the application of one's self through active choices (agency), while Blood defines both the self and the choices one makes in greater detail [and, as an aside, Life provides the physical spark of life needed to keep the heart pumping blood]

OKAY wow that got tangential anyways

SO BASICALLY! too much Blood makes you stagnate, so for example:

kankri is split between staying home with karkat or going to college across the country and being truly unbound for the first time in years

another crisis of Blood: signless is caught between his empathy and responsibility to the whole world and his responsibility to his own children

okay so here's more status quo stuff:

the maryam and vantas kids grow up together and its hilarious because you'll see them all together and its just like (girlboss) (girlboss) (physical manlet) (emotional manlet)

the maryam girls are actually miss rosa's nieces but she took them in when they were both pretty young

the pyropes know the vantases well enough considering pyrope senior and sign have known one another from their respective legal practices for years, but they live on the other side of town

the leijons lived in town when kankri and meulin were very young, but they moved and travelled for a long time before coming back and reestablishing their roots

the captors (psii being one of sign's oldest and closest friends) move into town with the peixes family pretty early on though

the condesce is.. a horrible spouse and guardian, to put it plainly. she's very emotionally manipulative and isn't averse to smacking people around, including her own family. she moves herself and her perfect little family into town so she can properly oversee a new business venture close by

feferi is one of the best young swimmers in the country and has a pretty good shot of getting onto the olympic team.. a lot of this drive to be perfect and to be better results from the condesce's unrelenting pressure and thinly veiled resentment throughout her whole life

so yeah psii, )(ic, feferi, and sollux all live together and it's really not great for anyone involved. (meenah ran away years ago, and crashed on aranea's couch for a pretty long while—mituna moved out with latula for college before psii and the condesce got married)

it gets bad to the point of sollux staying with the maryams for two months while the adults try to sort out that absolute clusterfuck and get the divorce proceedings going (meenah finally convinces feferi to get out and come stay with her and aranea for the duration as well)

in terms of relationships i think latula and porrim were really really close in high school, and probably had some kind of unacknowledged thing going on for a while that never actually turned into anything because latula and mituna were going steady

kankri has had a crush on latula for years but never acted on it for similar reasons

meenah still carries a lot of that give no fucks attitude (it's developed moreso as a defense mechanism here) and can't understand why feferi refuses to leave the condesce with her

okay back to VANTAS MANPAIN i also think that karkat feels the weight of a lot of expectations on his shoulders as well

he feels responsible to live up to the example his dad and his brother set, even if it's to his own detriment—and kankri's oblivious rambling about his grades and his teachers and all his clubs certainly aren't helping the matter

kankri is one of those overinvolved kids taking a million AP's while simultaneously shitting on the collegeboard at every single step

hes this super overachiever anal retentive perfectionist type dude and (just as karkat preemptively criticizes others to forestall their criticisms of him only to harshly criticize himself) kankri subconsciously holds the people around him to the same expectations he holds for himself

so karkat also develops this sense of lacking which, in combination with everything else, culminates in self loathing and thinking he has to solve everyone else's problems and getting horribly mad at himself for every little mistake

GOD i have a lot more but lemme post this before i accidentally close out of the app and lose it all

the vantases eat a lot of shitty renditions of persian dishes until karkat learns to cook because literally the only person in the world with a CHANCE of getting KANKRI VANTAS to make an EDIBLE DISH is miss rosa

kanaya is really good at persian dance too but is VERY VERY embarassed to perform in front of people.. however porrim definitely is not

karkat has insomnia while kankri just stays up stupidly late for assignments that really shouldnt be taken that seriously.. but they both have the same rumination/sleep anxiety thing where your brain goes insane with horrible and depressing scenarios as you try to sleep

and more ideas that i thought were interesting but idk how to fit in the context of this au:

signless and disciple getting married pretty late in life after having been in love for years, the vantases move in with the leijons and karkat suddenly has two sisters

nepeta and karkat are both juniors at this point, meulin is probably in her third year at a local college nearby while kankri is about to start his second year at a university pretty far away
