“We’ll fix it in post” is my new favorite phrase when it comes to fic writing. I’ve figured out that I can draft at the speed of light when I’m not stopping every other word to worry about whether crutches are called the same thing in the UK or what the law terms are there or how long it takes to heal from a sprained ankle. That’s a problem for future me (sorry bitch but you ain’t never done me any favors!)

I may also be the post-production team, but I am all about fixing stuff in post. Especially when talking about a first draft! I love knowing I don't need all the answers today. I can figure it out later! Yeah, it's going to be a pita, but my fix-it mindset is different than my storytelling mindset. I just need to get the draft done. Draft 2 I'll clean up some things, fill in some holes. Draft 3, same. Until all my notes about how I need to fix it in post have been resolved. To me that's way more useful than beating my head against the same plot hole over and over, never getting to writing the rest of that first draft.
"We'll fix it in post" is a phrase from the film industry, but it is inherently funnier when it's spoken by a writer because--tragic--you are also the post-production team.

the weird schrödinger's emotion that is "that character death was narratively satisfying and emotionally impactful and ultimately the best way to handle their character arc" simultaneously with "noooo but I wanted them to live :( :( :("

For those who don’t know, Elon Musk has recently been directing his assholery towards Wikipedia — calling them ‘Wokepedia’ due to the amount they spend on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and calling for people to stop giving them money “until they restore balance to their editing authority” —, now is a great time to consider donating to Wikipedia!

a terrible place
Smokin' Joe (Tom Cardy) | T | 3525 words | backstory; crack taken seriously
(yes the song. no i'm not kidding)
Bleedin’ Jack is a murderer, a cheat, a scoundrel, and the kinda man who’ll cuck you at your mother’s funeral, but he is not apparently, the kinda man who’ll shoot a baby, even if that baby’s a threat. In which a young girl sees it all, and grows up in a terrible place.
to paraphrase my favourite comment ever: i am insane for this. love it.

People against piracy fail to realize that no, I can’t just ‘buy it.’ They stopped making DVDs and Blu-Rays. They’re barely offering digital copies for download. I am not spending money I could use for food or bills to pay for a subscription service just so I can always have access to a beloved piece of media. Especially not when the service will remove media on a whim without concern for how the loss of access to that piece will make its artistic conservation nigh impossible.
For example, I recently learned that Disney+ had an original film called Crater. It’s scifi, family friendly, and seems cool - I would love to buy it as a holiday gift for my little brother! But: it’s exclusive to D+ and THEY REMOVED IT LITERALLY MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE.
The ONLY way I can directly access this film is through piracy. The ONLY available ‘copies’ of this film are hosted on piracy websites. Disney will NEVER release it in theaters, or as something to buy, and it may NEVER return to the streaming service. It will be LOST because we aren’t allowed to purchase it for personal viewing. If I can’t pay to own it, I won’t pay for the privilege of losing it when corporate decides to put it in a vault.
So yes, I’m going to pirate and support piracy.
Edit: if you are able, use $5 you would otherwise use for a streaming subscription to donate to a GazaFunds campaign.

marauders fans are so much worse than garden variety hp fans bc they've deluded themselves into having a superiority complex. "ackshually we don't support jkr and our fandom has queer & poc representation" girl...your fandom is the worst mass delusion since the dancing plague of 1518, your "representation" is a series of headcanons for characters who are little more than names in a series whose worldbuilding you continue to use in your art and whose existence has material consequences for trans people in the uk. you cannot headcanon your way out of supporting one of if not the most famous transphobe in the world. there are fantasy books by real life queer people and people of colour that will never get a fraction of of support that jkr does. read those instead and take a personality quiz oh my GOD
