owing to general interest (one person asked) and my being soo bored during finals, here's a ton of out-of-context wolship lore.

long ass post under the cut 😓

1. How did they meet?

rey bumped into (read: destructively caught the attention of) thancred while looking for his long lost brother in ul’dah. thancred took pity on him (blame his weakness for a pretty face) and decided to help him out.

2. What were their first impressions of each other? Has that first impression changed?

rey thought thancred’s pickup lines were incredibly lame, but clocked him as someone trying to come off as a harmless flirt rather than the genuine article (strange but…kind of still charming in a weird way?). wasn’t sure how much he could trust him but had no choice in the moment.

thancred thought rey was beautiful :)…and had a lot of issues on very clear display. couldn’t let him keep walking around like that. would be bad for his reputation.

they’re both able to see through the other’s mask which can be irritating but is, for the most part, a welcome reprieve. the fabled double manic pixie dream girl

they make a lot of assumptions in the beginning but do much of their learning and growing together <3

3. When did they realize they had feelings for each other?

thancred realized how smitten he’d become almost right after rey’s recruitment to the scions but it took rey much longer to admit he felt anything romantic for thancred.

i think it hit rey after he and aymeric got together that he FELT (past tense; denial) that way, but he pushed it deep down so he wouldn’t have to mourn a relationship that never was.

4. Who made the first move? Did it go smoothly or was it a disaster?

thancred confessed in a heat of the moment slip-up. it went so, so, unbelievably badly they didn’t talk for months.

5. What was their first kiss like? Who initiated it?

in a rare instance of acting without thinking, rey initiated.

you know in new girl when nick and jess kiss for the first time and it’s like they’ve been starved for each other their entire lives? it was like that.

6. What was their first time having sex with each other like? Who was the first to initiate sex?

they had a “casual” (squints) sexual relationship before getting together in earnest. first time was encouraged on thancred’s end but ultimately initiated by rey. left them both feeling hollowed out and a bit disgusted with themselves. they carried on like that for a while until they figured out how to communicate.

7. What did they do for their first date?

before or after they were calling them that?

likely a reconnaissance mission that got sidetracked in the name of sightseeing, with thancred showing rey around whatever city state they found themselves in. sticking close to stay together in crowds, seeking out new foods to try, losing track of time and staying out way too late. lol

8. Who was the first one to say "I love you"?

thancred thancred thancred. one million times over before rey managed once. those words are hard for him to say.

9. What activities do they enjoy doing together? Are there any activities one enjoys that the other doesn't?

anything and everything <3 they spend a lot of time tracking down marks for the Hunt together. rey adores triple triad and other card games & will beg thancred to play him (i think thancred instates an upper limit for rematches).

10. What are their common goals? Do they have any conflicting goals?

living their dull domestic life with their daughter and live-in best friend/co-parent. they‘ve been separated too many times for their liking and they're sticking together, if they can help it.

11. Have they had prior relationship experience, before becoming a couple? If so, how much?

rey had one amicable breakup with a childhood friend and was infamously to-be-engaged (never technically engaged) to lord aymeric before dumping him.

thancred has had many flings. nothing long-term or committed, by design.

12. What are their relationship expectations?

rey: somewhere deeply rooted lives the unfalsifiable certainty that thancred will, at one time or another, lose interest in him. he tries to ignore it.

thancred: til death or worse do them part, and only if he can’t manage to claw his way back from hell into reynir’s arms.

13. Do they have any shared background experiences? What are some differences in their backgrounds?

they both had very lonely childhoods. thancred doesn’t remember much of his, rey wishes he remembered less. they’ve spent a lot of time trusting only themselves. their similarities bring them closer but also provide sharp things to point at each other.

14. Was there ever any difficulties that hindered their relationship? If so, how did they resolve it?

where to start? there were many struggles and setbacks on both sides. thancred’s enduring patience and rey’s stubbornness saw them through the worst of it.

the thing that most got in their way was their own feelings of worthlessness. they needed to end their unhappy codependency to come back as partners again.

15. How do they express their love for each other? In other words what is their love language?

acts of service for thancred, physical touch for reynir, and quality time for both.

16. What do they find most physically attractive about the other?

what is there about rey that’s not to love? he’s like an angel.

technically physical? rey loves thancred’s voice. could listen to him talk for hours. also world hard and cold husband warm and soft

17. What do they find most attractive about each other's personalities?

rey is quick-witted and a good conversationalist. he keeps thancred sharp. if there’s ever a problem that needs puzzling out, there’s no better person for it.

despite his protests to the contrary, thancred is a kind and understanding person who doesn’t assume the worst of others. rey’s most detestable qualities go soft in thancred’s hands.

18. What are some things that remind them of each other?

rey- scruffy dogs, bloodstains, and grit between his teeth.

thancred- the smell of smoke, winter nights, empty beds.

19. Does either of them have any form of non-verbal communication that the other is aware of?

rey plays his emotions very close to the chest but thancred has learned his tells over the years and can read him far better than most.

it’s less actual communication and more just thancred being very attuned to the slightest changes in other people’s body language. he can probably tell when rey is uncomfortable before rey can.

20. What are some ways that they behave differently around the other?

thancred is like the one person reynir can speak freely around who both understands what he’s talking about and actually laughs at his jokes. he doesn’t have to filter his thoughts and can just be himself.

due to innumerable life experiences, thancred is always keened for some lurking danger. he can let his guard down around reynir knowing someone capable is watching the exits.

21. Who is more physically affectionate? In what way do they tend to show that affection?

probably thancred. he’s a touchy person who takes no issue with PDA, where rey is more particular about the when, the where, the what for, the who sees, etc.

as for what way…holding hands…kithing…one million billion pet names 🤭

22. How often do they argue? Who is usually more ready to compromise?

reynir starts arguments on purpose (see q. 16), and they go on until one or both forget whatever they were arguing about.

most of thancred’s raised issues boil down to concern for rey’s health or safety, so he’s quick to back off but will circle back at a better time.

23. Who is more likely to become jealous? Do they act on it, or keep it to themselves?

thancred because he is obsessed with that man and exhibits resource guarding tendencies.

in the same vein, thancred is very loudly committed their shared circles because reynir gets a little sad when people assume they aren’t together but won’t say anything about it so thancred just beats them to the punch.

24. Who is more likely to protect the other when there is danger?

equal share. they’re a well-oiled machine on the battlefield.

25. Was there ever a moment where one side was weak and the other had to be strong for both?

they get separated by the plot too many damn times but usually one ends up having to pick up the pieces when they reunite. they’re kind of useless without each other.

26. If they were to buy a gift for each other what would that gift be?

reynir is a big proponent of practical gifts (eg. whetstones, leather polish, stuff he knows will get used up). he notices tiny details and remembers offhand comments so his gifts make for touching—if not particularly unexpected—surprises.

receiving gifts that are too emotionally weighted makes reynir uncomfortable so thancred assuages that urge by giving him little trinkets and mementos from the places they go.

27. What would they consider to be an ideal date?

idek like..they just like to hang out with each other. they get to do it so rarely.

maybe just knowing that every issue that could possibly come up is being handled by someone else so they can devote their undivided attentions to being boring and in love. barf

28. Are they currently living together, or do they live separately?

once thancred settles down somewhere permanent, reynir uses their house like a home base between adventures. it pains the both of them to be apart more than necessary but rey and his avoidant attachment style don’t play well with co-signing a lease.

29. How does meeting each other's parents go?

if thancred met reynir’s mother, he would have a lot to say to her. most of it likely to get them banished again.

though thancred’s bio parents are both long passed, i think his sharlyan mentor would be happy to find out he bagged an eleven.

30. What do their other family members(ex: siblings or extended family) think of them as a couple?

rey’s brother loves thancred and thinks of him as family. no one is fighting as hard as aeon to get them married.

if thancred ever met rey’s sisters i think they would be very taken with him. he can be a real gentleman when he wants to be.

31. What do their friends think of them as a couple?

the scions are glad they finally got their shit together (lovingly). their 100k word slow burn was hard to watch.

but more seriously they’re very happy for both of their friends, y’shtola and urianger especially. they worried for pre-reynir thancred and it eased their fears to hear him talking about his own future.

32. How honest are they with each other?

if rey is hiding something from thancred it’s his old defense mechanisms rearing their heads. it’s either unconscious or eating him alive but feels too impossible to admit.

thancred has trained himself to be very upfront with rey, like a nurse talking a needle-shy patient through routine procedures. keeping secrets nearly did them in a few times so…no more surprises.
