Why Should Construction Teams Invest in Structural Analysis Before Demolition?

Before starting any demolition work, construction teams face many risks. A building that looks weak from the outside could still have parts that are dangerous to remove without proper planning. This is why it is smart for teams to look closely at the structure before starting any work. Careful planning helps protect people, equipment, and nearby properties from harm.
One important part of this planning is a demolition analysis. This process gives teams a clear picture of how a building will react during demolition. It helps in finding weak points and areas that could cause trouble if not handled properly. With this knowledge, teams can plan safer and smoother operations.
Another tool that helps in such projects is protective design software. This software allows engineers to test and plan different demolition methods using computer models. It helps in finding the safest way to bring down a structure while keeping workers and surroundings safe. Using technology like this saves time and reduces costly mistakes.
Forensic engineering analysis also plays a role in the planning stage. This type of study helps in understanding why certain parts of a building failed or could fail. It gives insight into hidden dangers that might not be seen in regular inspections. With this information, teams can avoid unexpected problems during demolition.
Applied Science offers smart solutions for construction teams looking to carry out demolition work safely. Their services help teams avoid risks and complete projects with care. Contact Applied Science today to learn how they can support your next demolition project.

Short DPXDC prompt #2, from @stealingyourbones.
“It’ll be good for you!” Dick threw an arm around Tim’s shoulders as he beamed his way through Gotham U’s campus.
“I could have done this online. They have virtual degrees. I could have hacked my way into one.”
“Yeah, but then you wouldn’t get the authentic experience!”
The group arrived at the dorm building, one of many, and Damian gave it a dubious once over.
“If this is authentic, I refuse to be a part of the locals.” Damian quietly remarked, before peering cautiously at Dick. “I have obtained my degrees. I do not need this experience.”
“It’s really not that bad, guys.”
“How would you know? You went to Blüdhaven for college.” Tim retorted with the voice of a young man resigned to despair. “You lived off campus and your door pin was Zitka’s birthday, month first then date second.”
“… Tim, why the fuck do you know that.”
“When I knocked on your door, that was just common courtesy. I didn’t actually need you to open it. I could have opened it myself.”
Dick’s smile brightens even further, with the light of an LED bulb instead of his usual sun, and places a hand on Tim’s head. “You’re creepy sometimes, you know that?”
“And you’re careless sometimes, you know that?” Tim groused. “Ugh, whatever. Let’s just get this over with. I can’t believe I’m going to have a roommate.”
“It’ll be fun! And if it isn’t, you can always swap roomies. We have enough pull to have that happen.”
“Doubtlessly.” Damian said. “This campus barely passes the bar of acceptability. Why is the campus like this. Why is it incorporated into the city.”
Tim smirked. Even though Damian spoke with formal language only found in the highest of echelons of society, Jon’s influence was beginning to make itself known. Good for him, the little shit. Privately, Tim thought the presence of a Kryptonian brought out the better sides of a bat. God knows Kon did, for him.
“Okay, enough whining you two! Let’s get Tim settled in.”
Tim elbowed Dick in the gut and kept walking into the building as his big brother wheezed dramatically. Damian rolled his eyes- he’s seen Nightwing take harder hits than Drake’s pointy elbows and walk it off- and followed. Unbeknownst to them, Dick all but beamed with joy at their solidarity. His plan was working.
——
Tim settled into the dorm, disgruntled at the small and uncomfortable twin mattress. The dorm smelt of faint mildew, had at least ten safety code violations, and had ventilation that probably hasn’t been cleaned since the last fear gas attack. The vent thing honestly might explain the state of Gotham U’s students and their proclivities to become supervillains. Tim is more tempted to go into villainy than ever before with these conditions.
That is, until his roomie walked in.
Step 1) reboot brain.
Holy shit, his roomie was HOT.
Step 2) notice all the weird things his roomie all showed unconsciously. Too graceful. Walking carefully, like how Kon does sometimes when he’s remembering to be careful with his fragile surroundings. Meta? Too sharp teeth.
Wait. Sharp teeth?
“Uh, hi. I’m Danny. You must be my roommate. Tim, right?” The guy, Danny, had a deep voice. And too sharp teeth. Because he smiled. It was a damn nice smile.
Step 3) bi panic. DID TIM MENTION HE WAS HOT??
“Uh. Hi. Yeah, I’m Tim.”
“Cool. What’re you majoring in?”
“Forensic Analysis. You?”
“Aerospace engineering.”
They looked at each other awkwardly. “Cool, I’m just gonna set my stuff down.”
“You’re not from here, right?” Tim asked and promptly flushed when an amused smile gets thrown his way.
“The accent give it away?”
“Yeah. Uh. You want a tour, man?”
“Sure. Thanks.”
——
It was flashes of things.
“Oh. I don’t go anywhere without my thermos.” Danny smiled, patting the dented thing. Except, Tim’s never seen him drink from it.
Or:
“Oh, woah. Food’s not attacking me.” And the thing is, Danny actually looked apprehensive before poking at the cafeteria food.
What??
And a month passes before Tim realizes he’s one hundred percent absolutely fucked.
Because it’s one thing if it’s an extremely attractive dork with brains and humor.
It’s an entirely different thing if the extremely attractive dork with brains and humor was a complete and total mystery. Tim is an absolute sucker for mysteries. It’s even more attractive than smacking him in the face with a brick!
“Hey, Tim?”
“Uh. Yeah?” Tim screamed at himself. He’s dated like fifteen different people! Why the hell is he so awkward with Danny?
(Tim was always awkward. He has that autistic rizz.)
“Tell me more about blood splatters?” Danny asked with a hopeful smile. Tim folded like wet paper. (It helps that he knows a lot- too much- about analyzing blood splatters.)
——
Outside of their window, Nightwing cackled to himself. It was worth using the Wayne name to get Tim the most interesting college kid Dick could find as a roommate. Who said Tim had the market corner on stalking anyways?
Nightwing flipped off of the roof, all but skipping home.
Robin, his patrol partner for the night, grimaced. For all Richard was his favorite, the man unsettled him at times.

TW SUGGESTIVE
An engineer enters through the gates and into the precinct's bullpen, folder and pen in hand as they shout out to the room.
"Is there a Gavin Reed present?"
People's heads turn over to the person before one scruffy guy shoots his head up.
"What is it?"
The engineer walks over to Gavin's desk with a sort of...weirded out look?
"You are the RK900's partner, correct?"
Gavin stares st the engineer for a bit, trying to figure out if they were bringing in some news or if he had something on his face. "Uh, yeah? Fuck does that gotta do with me?"
Ignoring his crass words, the engineer continued. "We're going to be needing a few more hours with the RK900-"
"It's Nines, and why the hell are you hoardin' him for longer? Wasn't that check up service only for less than an hour? This guy was up and out yesterday." Gavin points his thumb over at Connor's desk, to which Connor started to pick up on the conversation out of curiosity.
"See, that's the thing. The RK800, otherwise known as Connor, had sustained minimal damage to his physical body. The RK900, or Nines as you refer to him as, does have damage to it."
"Huh??? What fu-"
And without shame, the engineer spoke perfectly clear and loud enough for the people around to hear well into what was going on.
"Nines does not have any physical damage to his external body, he however, does have injury in his voice box, alongside rust beginning to form in the crevices of his vocal cord. We had to further investigate on what had caused the rust and damage,"
They brought up their folder and took out a piece of paper.
"To paraphrase the notes made by the leading engineer, please refrain from engaging in vigorous intimacy with Nines as it can strain and cause ruin to the inner workings of his oral cavity and throat. On that topic, please refrain from letting him ingest any foreign fluid in copious amounts since it interrupts his ability to break down contaminates. His mouth is meant for forensic analysis, a feature meant to be used delicately. If you wish to continue your engagement, please do so in a gentle and safe manner."
...
...
...
oh shit.
Gavin was sat in his chair, bitting his bottom lip and a face full of furious blush. Not only that, but the bullpen had quiet down to take in what was just said to Gavin.
He then nods his head slowly, eyes averted to the floor instead, and spoke up lowly. "I understand."
The engineer just nodded their head as well and showed Gavin another piece of paper. "Please sign right here." He did so and then went the engineer to return back to the android repair center.
Gavin kept his eyes on his desk, staring holes into it with how intensely he was staring, desperately trying to ignore Tina and Chris' laughter from the distance and Connor's baffled face of horror and red LED from the corner of his eye.

"Burned into You"
Luke Alvez x male reader
Warnings: mentions of fire/arson, no smut

The acrid scent of smoke clung to the air as you leaned against the fire truck, arms crossed over your chest. You weren’t a firefighter anymore, but some habits never died—like showing up when an old friend called, needing a trained eye on a suspicious blaze. You had spent years running into burning buildings, and even though your job now as a fire investigator kept you out of the heat, you still felt the flames licking at your heels.
What you hadn’t expected was the FBI showing up.
A convoy of black SUVs pulled up near the scene, engines humming before the doors swung open. A team of well-dressed agents stepped out, radiating confidence and precision. But one of them stood out to you immediately.
He moved with the ease of a predator, all coiled muscle and sharp focus. Dark eyes swept across the scene, landing on you for just a moment—just long enough for something unspoken to pass between you. He was handsome in a way that made you forget how to breathe for a second.
You barely had time to process that before a dark haired woman, clearly in charge, approached you. "SSA Emily Prentiss, Behavioral Analysis Unit," she introduced herself, flashing hier credentials. "We're investigating a series of arson-related murders."
You straightened, nodding. "Y/N L/N, former firefighter. I work in fire investigation now. This was definitely intentional—accelerant traces, flashover patterns too perfect. The bastard knew what he were doing."
Prentiss nodded. "That's what we were afraid of." She gestured toward the agent who had caught your attention. "This is SSA Luke Alvez. He and SSA Tara Lewis will be working with you on the fire analysis."
Luke stepped closer, holding out his hand. "Pleasure to meet you, hermano." His voice was warm, deep, and rich with something you couldn't quite place—until he smiled, and you caught the slight dimple in his cheek.
"Likewise," you managed, shaking his hand. His grip was firm, and he held your gaze a second too long before releasing you.
"Former firefighter, huh?" Luke said as he pulled a notepad from his pocket. "Must be hard staying on the sidelines now."
You huffed a small laugh. "Yeah, well, running into burning buildings only gets you so far before it catches up with you."
Luke nodded like he understood that all too well. "Still—must be in your blood. Bet you miss it."
You tilted your head, studying him. "You a profiler, or are you just good at reading people?"
He smirked. "A little of both."
Over the next few days, the case kept you and Luke in close proximity. The arsonist was methodical, targeting victims who had somehow wronged him in the past. You worked late into the night, poring over burn patterns and forensic reports, often with Luke at your side.
"You're good at this," Luke said one evening as you both hovered over blueprints, analyzing the points of origin for the latest fire.
You arched a brow. "Flattery, Agent Alvez?"
He grinned. "Just calling it like I see it, cariño."
The Spanish caught you off guard, making heat rise to your face. "That your thing? Giving everyone nicknames?"
Luke leaned in slightly, his voice dropping lower. "Only the ones I like."
Your stomach flipped at that. You were used to banter, but this felt different. Charged. Dangerous.
And you liked it.
By the time the BAU had a solid suspect, tensions were running high. The arsonist was escalating, and his next target? A retired firefighter who had once saved his family from a blaze—only for his father to later die from complications. Twisted justice.
It hit close to home for you.
"You're too close to this," Luke said as you paced outside the precinct.
"You gonna try to bench me, Agent Alvez?" you shot back, crossing your arms.
Luke exhaled sharply, stepping closer. "No, but I need you to be careful. This guy isn't just lighting fires—he's playing a game, and he wants people to suffer before they die." His eyes locked onto yours, intense and unwavering. "I don't want to see you get hurt."
There it was again. That pull between you two.
"Why do you care?" you asked, voice quieter now.
Luke hesitated for only a moment before answering, "Because I do, mi cielo."
Your breath caught. "You keep calling me things like that. Cariño, mi cielo. You don’t even know if I—"
Luke smirked. "I wouldn’t say it if I wasn’t sure."
Silence stretched between you before you finally muttered, "You're a pain in the ass, you know that?"
Luke chuckled. "Yeah, but you like me anyway."
It all came to a head when the arsonist set his final blaze—with you trapped inside.
You had gone to check in on the retired firefighter the suspect had targeted. When you stepped inside, you immediately smelled the gasoline. The door slammed shut behind you, and the familiar roar of fire erupted.
You fought your way through the thick smoke, but the flames were everywhere.
And then you heard it—Luke's voice, shouting your name.
"Y/N!"
You stumbled toward the sound, coughing as your vision blurred. A strong arm wrapped around you, and suddenly, you were being pulled through the inferno.
The next thing you knew, you were outside, coughing hard as cool air filled your lungs.
Luke knelt beside you, his hands gripping your shoulders. "You okay?" His voice was rough, strained with something deeper.
You nodded, still catching your breath. "How’d you—?"
"Followed my gut," he admitted. "Couldn’t let you burn in there, cariño."
Something snapped into place between you in that moment. Maybe it was the adrenaline. Maybe it was the near-death experience. Or maybe it was just inevitable.
You reached up, gripping his shirt, pulling him down just enough that your foreheads nearly touched. "You keep calling me cariño," you murmured.
Luke swallowed hard, his hands tightening on you. "Yeah."
"Say it again."
A small smirk tugged at his lips before he whispered, "Cariño."
And then you kissed him.
It was desperate, fueled by everything that had built up between you—fear, tension, longing. His lips were warm against yours, firm and demanding, and when he pulled you closer, you felt safe for the first time in a long while.
When you finally broke apart, Luke brushed a hand over your face. "Took you long enough," he teased.
You laughed, breathless. "Shut up, Alvez."
He grinned. "Make me."
And you did.
After the case wrapped up, Luke found you outside the BAU office one evening.
"So," he said, leaning against the hood of your truck. "What now?"
You glanced at him. "What do you think?"
He smirked, reaching out to tug you closer by the front of your jacket. "I think you’re coming to dinner with me."
"And if I say no?"
Luke's voice dropped to a husky murmur. "You won’t."
You exhaled, shaking your head with a smile. "Yeah, you’re probably right."
"Good," he said, pressing a lingering kiss to your temple. "Let’s go, cariño."
And just like that, something that had been simmering between you finally caught fire.
And this time, you didn’t mind the burn.
Author's note:
Hope you liked this new short story! I decided to write a fanfiction for Luke, since I love him just as much as Hotch and didn't want him to feel left out🦅😂

What Can Forensic Structural Engineering Reveal After a Building Fails?
Structural failure isn’t always caused by a single mistake. Often, it's the result of multiple small issues that build up over time. Forensic Structural Engineering is the field that investigates these failures to understand exactly what went wrong. It brings together engineering knowledge, site inspection, and factual data to create a complete picture.
In real-life cases, Structural Forensic Engineering professionals examine structural elements like beams, joints, and load distribution. They look for warning signs that may have been overlooked or ignored. Their work often reveals hidden design missteps or unexpected pressure points that contributed to the collapse.
The detailed process of Forensic Engineering Analysis also helps improve future building practices. Engineers and safety professionals rely on these findings to strengthen construction methods and prevent repeat failures. A Manhattan Federal Court judge on Friday extended the temporary restraining order that bars staffers from the so-called Department of Government Efficiency from accessing US Treasury Department data—which attorneys general from New York and other blue states have slammed as an unlawful threat to privacy—while she considers whether to impose a longer-term injunction.
After hearing some two hours of arguments, Judge Jeannette A. Vargas told lawyers for New York and allied states, and their opponents from the Department of Justice, “I do find good cause to extend the TRO as modified.” Vargas said she would soon issue her decision, but not today, to “give the court time to consider” the issues.
While the proceeding largely maintained the status quo, it also lifted the veil on just how little is known about DOGE’s access to information—and where it went.
When Vargas asked Jeffrey Oestericher, the Justice Department attorney representing Trump, on Friday whether any DOGE-accessed information had been shared outside of the Treasury Department, he said: “The short answer on that is we don’t presently know.”
“We’re performing a forensic analysis. What we can tell from the forensic analysis thus far is there were emails sent outside Treasury,” Oestericher said. “We do not know [the] content.”
Vargas asked: Wasn’t this problematic from a privacy standpoint?
“The short answer is no,” Oestericher said.
“During this time that the DOGE team members had access to this information, there were extensive mitigation efforts in place to prevent this precise harm.”
But Oestericher admitted at another point, “We candidly admit that there was some measure of increased risk, but we took all appropriate mitigation measures to mitigate that risk as much as possible.”
Vargas’ decision came six days after New York and allied litigants were granted a temporary restraining order that ultimately prohibited the Treasury Department from giving DOGE hires and special government employees access to sensitive data and computer systems. Donald Trump tapped Elon Musk to head DOGE, an agency the president created under the auspices of rooting out fraud and governmental waste—despite a dearth of evidence indicating fraud.
In issuing that temporary restraining order early February 8, Judge Paul A. Engelmayer said that the states suing Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent would “face irreparable harm in the absence of injunctive relief.”
Engelmayer noted that Treasury’s new policy, enacted at Trump’s direction, appears to allegedly “[expand] access to the paytment systems of the Bureau of Fiscal Services (BFS) to political appointees and ‘special government employees.’”
This, Engelmayer reasoned, represented a “risk that the new policy presents of the disclosure of sensitive and confidential information and the heightened risk that the systems in question will be more vulnerable than before to hacking.”
Engelmayer also said in his written decision that the states suing over Treasury’s policy change “have shown a likelihood of success on the merits of their claims, with the States’ statutory claims presenting as particularly strong.”
The complaint against Trump and Bessent repeatedly cited WIRED’s reporting that revealed how a 25-year-old engineer named Marko Elez, with ties to Musk, enjoyed read and write access to two Treasury Department systems responsible for virtually all payments made by the federal government. Tom Krause—who is on the DOGE team despite being CEO of Cloud Software Group—was also granted access to these capabilities.
Two sources told WIRED that Elez’s privileges allowed him not just to read but also write code for two of the most sensitive US government computer systems. These include the Payment Automation Manager and Secure Payment System at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS). These systems, which are kept on a secure mainframe, control government payments that total more than 20 percent of the US economy, WIRED previously reported.
In court papers filed February 13, New York and allies allege that Trump and his Treasury Department don’t even contest that states have a “clear and reasonable interest in protecting their confidential bank account numbers and other sensitive financial information, including details and amounts of payments, from unauthorized disclosure.” But this information was disclosed to two DOGE members, they claim, violating “numerous laws and regulations.”
New York and other states argued in that same filing that BFS’s development of “mitigation strategies” to reduce risk was testament to the “substantial and imminent” danger. They say that at least on one occasion, Elez was “mistakenly provided with ‘read/write permissions instead of read-only.’”
“But even with the more restricted ‘read-only’ access, Elez still had ‘the ability to view and query information and data’; in other words, he had access to the States’ sensitive financial information.” Despite the fact that Elez resigned when asked for comment by The Wall Street Journal about racist social media posts, the government didn’t provide any reassurance that he didn’t participate in improper activity, New York and its allies alleged. (Meanwhile, Musk suggested in a post on X, his social media platform, that Elez would be rehired, writing: “He will be brought back. To err is human, to forgive divine.”)
Andrew Amer, an attorney in New York state attorney general Letitia James’ office, said Friday that Elez and Krause “have no lawful job duty to access this information.”
Despite the government’s insistence that Elez was in a “sandbox environment” when he had access to the code, which they insist minimized risk, Amer said that wasn’t all that comforting.
“We know that the same engineer took screenshots of the data in the data system and that he may have given those screenshots to his supervisor,” Amer said.
Amer said the Justice Department’s insistence that Krause only had “over-the-shoulder access” didn’t inspire much confidence either.
“The fact that we don’t know if any information went beyond Treasury is a red flag that causes concern about the ethics issue,” Amer said. “This is especially important, as we do have people, especially Mr. Krause, who is simultaneously employed elsewhere outside Treasury.”
“You have somebody who’s been given access to source code within the bureau whose other job is CEO of one of the world’s largest software companies.”
“We are here because the states’ banking information has been accessed— that has happened,” Amer said at another point in court. “We know that the people who accessed it have been somewhat careless in the way they handled it.”
Amer also rejected any notion that DOGE acolytes’ access was normal. “This was not a Treasury function, this was building a new automated process to apply an ideological litmus test to funding requests. There’s nothing typical or normal in terms of Treasure functions about that.”
Trump’s camp has contended that his opponents are trying to thwart the White House’s right “to exercise politically accountable oversight of agency activities and to implement the president’s policy priorities.”
Treasury Department officials are responsible for liaising with the United States DOGE Service, which needs to have access to BFS systems, they argue, “to perform their Presidentially-directed mandate of maximizing efficiency and productivity, including ensuring data and payment integrity with respect to the 1.2 billion transactions and over $5 trillion in outlays handled by BFS,” they said in court papers.
Red states including Florida, Georgia, and Alabama have also entered the fray to show support for Trump. They contend in court papers that blue states’ opposition to DOGE meddling is unconstitutional. “This case involves an unprecedented assault on the separation of powers and the President’s authority under Article II of the Constitution,” they wrote. “Ultimately, Plaintiffs here are upset because one set of bureaucrats in the Executive Branch have access to data that they believe only other bureaucrats in the Executive Branch should have access to.”
“This type of fiddling around with the President’s prerogatives asks this Court to insert itself into core Executive decision-making regarding policy and personnel. The President is working to combat what former President Biden’s administration identified, at minimum, as hundreds of billions of dollars in fraud,” they wrote.

Tools of the Trade for Learning Cybersecurity
I created this post for the Studyblr Masterpost Jam, check out the tag for more cool masterposts from folks in the studyblr community!
Cybersecurity professionals use a lot of different tools to get the job done. There are plenty of fancy and expensive tools that enterprise security teams use, but luckily there are also lots of brilliant people writing free and open-source software. In this post, I'm going to list some popular free tools that you can download right now to practice and learn with.
In my opinion, one of the most important tools you can learn how to use is a virtual machine. If you're not already familiar with Linux, this is a great way to learn. VMs are helpful for separating all your security tools from your everyday OS, isolating potentially malicious files, and just generally experimenting. You'll need to use something like VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation (Workstation Pro is now free for personal use, but they make you jump through hoops to download it).
Below is a list of some popular cybersecurity-focused Linux distributions that come with lots of tools pre-installed:
Kali is a popular distro that comes loaded with tools for penetration testing
REMnux is a distro built for malware analysis
honorable mention for FLARE-VM, which is not a VM on its own, but a set of scripts for setting up a malware analysis workstation & installing tools on a Windows VM.
SANS maintains several different distros that are used in their courses. You'll need to create an account to download them, but they're all free:
Slingshot is built for penetration testing
SIFT Workstation is a distro that comes with lots of tools for digital forensics
These distros can be kind of overwhelming if you don't know how to use most of the pre-installed software yet, so just starting with a regular Linux distribution and installing tools as you want to learn them is another good choice for learning.
Free Software
Wireshark: sniff packets and explore network protocols
Ghidra and the free version of IDA Pro are the top picks for reverse engineering
for digital forensics, check out Eric Zimmerman's tools - there are many different ones for exploring & analyzing different forensic artifacts
pwntools is a super useful Python library for solving binary exploitation CTF challenges
CyberChef is a tool that makes it easy to manipulate data - encryption & decryption, encoding & decoding, formatting, conversions… CyberChef gives you a lot to work with (and there's a web version - no installation required!).
Burp Suite is a handy tool for web security testing that has a free community edition
Metasploit is a popular penetration testing framework, check out Metasploitable if you want a target to practice with
SANS also has a list of free tools that's worth checking out.
Programming Languages
Knowing how to write code isn't a hard requirement for learning cybersecurity, but it's incredibly useful. Any programming language will do, especially since learning one will make it easy to pick up others, but these are some common ones that security folks use:
Python is quick to write, easy to learn, and since it's so popular, there are lots of helpful libraries out there.
PowerShell is useful for automating things in the Windows world. It's built on .NET, so you can practically dip into writing C# if you need a bit more power.
Go is a relatively new language, but it's popular and there are some security tools written in it.
Rust is another new-ish language that's designed for memory safety and it has a wonderful community. There's a bit of a steep learning curve, but learning Rust makes you understand how memory bugs work and I think that's neat.
If you want to get into reverse engineering or malware analysis, you'll want to have a good grasp of C and C++.
Other Tools for Cybersecurity
There are lots of things you'll need that aren't specific to cybersecurity, like:
a good system for taking notes, whether that's pen & paper or software-based. I recommend using something that lets you work in plain text or close to it.
general command line familiarity + basic knowledge of CLI text editors (nano is great, but what if you have to work with a system that only has vi?)
familiarity with git and docker will be helpful
There are countless scripts and programs out there, but the most important thing is understanding what your tools do and how they work. There is no magic "hack this system" or "solve this forensics case" button. Tools are great for speeding up the process, but you have to know what the process is. Definitely take some time to learn how to use them, but don't base your entire understanding of security on code that someone else wrote. That's how you end up as a "script kiddie", and your skills and knowledge will be limited.
Feel free to send me an ask if you have questions about any specific tool or something you found that I haven't listed. I have approximate knowledge of many things, and if I don't have an answer I can at least help point you in the right direction.
#studyblrmasterpostjam#studyblr#masterpost#cybersecurity#late post bc I was busy yesterday oops lol#also this post is nearly a thousand words#apparently I am incapable of being succinct lmao

Mystery of Somerton Man SOLVED after 73 years as DNA finally identifies body
For decades, authorities, academics and the public alike have traded theories about the identity of the mysterious Somerton Man, whose body was found on a beach outside of Adelaide, Australia, on December 1, 1948. He was a Russian spy. A jilted lover poisoned by his paramour. A smuggler!?
The truth, however, is seemingly more mundane. A new DNA analysis suggests the Somerton Man is Carl “Charles” Webb, an electrical engineer from Melbourne who vanished from the public record in April 1947.
Colleen Fitzpatrick, a forensic genealogist who specializes in using DNA to solve cold cases, identified the Somerton Man using hairs caught in his death mask. To narrow down the pool of potential candidates, Fitzpatrick plugged the Somerton man’s DNA into the genealogical research database GEDmatch. After finding a match to a distant cousin, the researchers constructed a family tree of some 4,000 people. They then used archival records to search for individuals whose biographies mirrored what was known about the Somerton Man. Webb, who was born in the Australian state of Victoria in 1905, fit the bill.
On the matter of how he died city coroner said; “There was no indication of violence, and I am compelled to the finding that death resulted from poison, But I cannot say whether it was administered by the deceased himself or by some other person.”
Authorities in Adelaide exhumed the Somerton Man’s body last May and are currently conducting genetic testing on the remains. The last mention of Webb in the historical record dates to April 1947, when he left his wife. In October 1951, three years after the Somerton Man’s death, Dorothy placed a notice in the Age newspaper stating that she had begun divorce proceedings against Webb on the grounds of desertion. By then, Dorothy had moved from Melbourne to Bute, a town 89 miles northeast of Adelaide.
Records showed that Webb enjoyed reading and writing poetry, as well as betting on horse races. He had a sister who lived in Melbourne and was married to a man named Thomas Keane—likely the T. Keane whose name appears on the clothing in the Somerton Man’s suitcase. (As for the American origins of the attire, Abbott speculates that Keane bought the clothing second-hand from a G.I. stationed in Australia.)
Plenty of questions surrounding the case remain: Why did Webb come to Somerton Beach? What was his cause of death? Did he die by suicide? Was he murdered? These answers still remain and being looked into still.
There’s almost a sequel film here, not of ‘who is Somerton man?’, but now it’s ‘the mysterious case of Charles Webb’.”

This is an idea that I want to write a fic about, but I probably won’t bc I don’t have the brain power.
Bruce has 5 associate's degrees: Statistics/Analytics, Human Resources, Economics, Philosophy, Ethics
4 bachelor’s degrees: Criminal Psychology, Business, Forensic Science, Medical Degree
3 PhDs: Biology, Chemistry, (I can't think of a specificity)Engineering
This comes to light to the public when Gotham University/Gazette makes a long news article about some of GUNs most successful students throughout its history. Bruce Wayne is the last on the list, as he is the most recent “great alum”, and is also commemorated as holding the record for having the most degrees ever received from Gotham Uni with a record holding 12 degrees. He’s also one of the greatest alums bc of how much he’s given back to the Uni and it’s student’s, with 80% of the campus being eligible for The Wayne Scholarship Fund. Mr Wayne is also the reason why students don’t have to pay for dorms at Gotham UN.
A week after this information blows up, Bruce does an interview with Clark about it and Bruce explains that he dumbs himself down to be more palatable for the public /other rich people, and no he doesn’t act like that at work, or with his kids. He’s about 60(?) when this happens so he’s ok with letting his Brucie Wayne persona go.
Bruce explains that he started collecting degrees at the age of 15 with an accelerated course Business degree and a normal course associates degree in Statistics/Analysis at the same time. He did all of his bachelor’s degrees on accelerated courses while also doing a normal course associates degree or two at the same time. Average bachelor’s degree taking 2.5 years for him to get. He completed his bachelor’s in Forensic Science, and Medical, over the time it took him to get his Biology PhD and promptly never tried to complete two accelerated bachelor’s degrees over the time it took to get a PhD ever again. But what can he say, he was a young 20 something and had the grit for the grind. He promptly got his accelerated Criminal Psychology degree and its accompanying Associates degree, before finishing his Chem and Engineering PhDs before he was 35.
#I do not care how implausible this is#he’s Batman he can do anything#except treat his kids right💀#if you write a fic based off of this please show it to me bc I’d love to see it😍😍#fanfic ideas#bruce wayne#this post was how I figured out the the short hand for Gotham University would be GUN#I think that’s hilariously ironic#clark kent
