🧬👻 “You Think You’re You? That’s Adorable.”
You’re not even fully human. You’re a haunted meat golem with Wi-Fi and anxiety.
ACT I — The Lie You’re Living
Ah, yes. You wake up. Brush your teeth. Sip your coffee. Scroll your phone. You feel like a real person with thoughts, memories, preferences.
Cute.
Because here’s the punchline, sweet summer child:
You’re not even 100% human.
ACT II — What You Really Are
You’re a walking, talking orgy of multiple species. Part human. Part bacteria. Part fungus. Part virus. Part ancient ape. And 100% confused spaghetti code pretending to have a soul.
The human body? A biological group project between evolution, gut microbes, parasitic DNA hitchhikers, and ancient mitochondria that used to be their own species.
Your body contains:
More non-human cells than human ones.
Bacteria that outnumber your own cells 10 to 1.
DNA from viruses, ancient fungi, and unclassifiable “dark genome” segments that we literally do not understand.
You are not a person. You’re a biofilm with opinions.
ACT III — You’re a Colony. Not an Individual.
Think about this:
Your thoughts can be influenced by the bacteria in your gut.
Your moods are affected by your microbiome.
Your decisions can shift depending on what fungus you inhaled that day.
Your attraction to people? Might be chemical signals from your skin flora.
You ever get a “gut feeling”?
That might literally be your intestinal bacteria whispering strategy into your brain.
And you thought you were “making a choice.”
ACT IV — Are You Even There?
Let’s go deeper:
You don’t control your heartbeat. You don’t control your dreams. You don’t control what you forget, or when you cry, or what triggers your trauma. You don’t control the timing of your thoughts.
So the question is:
Who the f*ck is actually driving this meat suit?
Because neuroscience doesn’t know. Religion argues. Philosophy hyperventilates. And physics just stares blankly into the void.
ACT V — You Might Be a Ghost. Or Just a Glitch.
You’re either:
A consciousness that’s somehow haunting a nervous system
A chemical puppet with enough complexity to simulate free will
A hallucination of self generated by accidental electro-meat fireworks
Or, worst of all:
A network of sub-selves constantly arguing while pretending they’re one “I.”
Shocking Truth?
Science has no consensus on what consciousness actually is.
Nobody knows if it’s:
An emergent property
A soul
A quantum algorithm
A shared delusion
Or a horrifying accident we’ve decided to romanticize
ACT VI — Logic Tests That Will Wreck You
Ready to lose sleep? Try these reality-breaking diagnostics:
🧠 Logic Trap 1: “When Are You?”
Your brain processes input with a delay. What you’re experiencing right now actually happened a few milliseconds ago. So… if you’re always behind the present… Where is “now”? And who’s watching it?
🧠 Logic Trap 2: “The Ship of Self”
Every 7 years, your cells have completely regenerated. You are literally not made of the same matter you were as a child. If your body changed… and your thoughts changed… What stayed the same? Who’s left?
🧠 Logic Trap 3: “The False First Person”
What if every time you go to sleep, the “you” that wakes up is a copy? You remember yesterday… but so does the copy. Are you just a rebooted save file that thinks it’s original?
🧠 Logic Trap 4: “The Brain In The Room”
The only proof you have that anyone else exists is sensory input. You could be a brain in a jar, hallucinating all this. Can you prove you’re not?
FINAL VERDICT — You’re Not “You.” You’re Just a Temporary Pattern.
A mind is not a soul. It’s a self-updating hallucination stabilized by hormones, trauma, diet, genetics, and luck.
And when you die?
That pattern ends. And everything you called “you” dissolves into meat, memory, and microbial decay.
The ghost leaves. The flesh rots. The world keeps spinning. No refunds. No backups. No explanations.

Changing Lanes (Pepe Martí) ✩°。 ⋆⸜ 🎧✮

“I thought I’d never be okay, but now I know that I’m okay.” (Niki, La La Lost You) ⋆˙⟡ —
Synopsis: After a crush on driver Paul Aron leaves you heartbroken, you unexpectedly find yourself pursued by Campos Driver, Pepe Martí. As he gently shows you kindness and patience, you start to realize that love isn’t as hopeless as it once seemed.
Genre: Angst, Slowburn + Fluff !!
Pairing: Pepe Martí x Fem!Reader
Warnings: This entire fic in itself, because it was a random idea I had at 12 am after finding out the guy I started gaining feelings for had a girlfriend (PLEASE 2025 be good to me, I can’t keep going through these things even if it is for the plot)
Note: Honestly, I just wanted an outlet to vent out my feelings because I haven’t felt the pain of heartbreak in over a year and this one felt extra bittersweet because I couldn’t even form a connection with the guy. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it! Love lots, and don’t forget to like + reblog as always.
Chasing the Apex (Paul’s Version) !!
For as long as you could remember, you had noticed that love wasn’t always the kindest towards you. From one-sided crushes to having your heart crushed entirely by your ex, you honestly don't understand why the universe could be so cruel. That was until you met Paul.
As one of the social media managers for the Formula 2 grid, you handled posts and updates throughout race weekends. Being around the same age as most of the younger drivers, you got along with them pretty easily.
But none of them caught your attention quite like Paul Aron.
You’ve always noticed Paul. It’s hard not to, really. He’s the kind of person who effortlessly draws attention with his charm, his smile, and the way he carries himself—like he’s not just a talented racer, but someone who genuinely enjoys life, which made him one of the highlights of your first season on the grid as well.
His presence lights up a room, and though you’ve crossed paths a few times during FIA events or networking opportunities, you’ve never had the chance to talk to him. But every time you see him, something about him draws you in, leaving you with a flutter in your chest that you can’t quite explain.
It happens again one evening, at a Porsche networking event. You’re standing near the refreshment table, trying to stay calm as you check your phone, making sure everything’s ok for your blog post the next day. Then you hear a voice, smooth and warm, cutting through the chatter.
“Is the Wi-Fi in this place always this spotty, or is it just tonight?” Paul says, his tone light and friendly.
You glance up, slightly startled. His smile catches you off guard, as if he’s genuinely amused by the moment, not just making small talk. He’s standing a few feet away, holding a drink in one hand, his other hand casually resting on the edge of the table.
You laugh softly, trying to steady your nerves. “Honestly, it might just be this place. I’ve had worse reception at airports.”
He chuckles, a sound that’s easygoing and somehow puts you at ease. “I swear, Wi-Fi is the real race here. Always competing with my connection.”
You can’t help but smile at the way he talks, as though you’re both sharing a private joke. The conversation stays light, but it’s easy. There’s no awkwardness. He listens as much as he speaks, and you feel like, for a few moments, the world narrows down to just the two of you. But then, just as quickly as the moment began, it’s over.
Paul nods, excusing himself to chat with someone else, leaving you standing there, feeling a strange mix of giddy and disappointed.
Over the next few days, you find yourself replaying that brief encounter in your mind, analyzing every word, every glance. Each time you pass him at the track or at another event, you catch yourself lingering, watching him from the corner of your eye, fascinated by the way he interacts with everyone around him.
He’s effortlessly kind, almost too charismatic for his own good, and you can’t help but be drawn to him even more, though you keep your feelings to yourself.
It’s all so easy for him, and you can’t shake the thought that he’s the kind of person who could make anyone feel special. Even if he doesn’t notice you, you find yourself quietly admiring him from afar.
One evening, you’re idly scrolling through social media, distracted by the usual updates and posts, when something catches your eye. It’s a tag in one of Paul’s photos, leading you to a girl’s account. You hesitate for a moment, but curiosity wins out, and you click on it.
You had seen this girl around and recognized her as the new Hi-Tech GP social media intern.
At first, it’s easy to tell yourself that you’re just browsing. After all, it’s just another account, right? But soon, you find yourself diving deeper—scrolling through the posts, the captions, the shared moments between them.
Each photo feels like a glimpse into a world you’ll never be a part of: the vacations, the inside jokes, the smiles exchanged in private moments.
At first, you brushed it off as nothing more than a friendship, but the more you saw, the more it seemed like there was something more. It’s all perfectly curated, as if everything about their relationship is designed to be seen, to be admired.
Before you even knew it, you find it. A highlight that’s pinned at the top of her profile—a video of Paul looking at her with such tenderness in his eyes.
The way he smiles, so genuine, so in love, sends a sharp pang through your chest. You swallow hard, the weight of the moment settling in. He’s taken. And there’s nothing you can do about it.
As you sat there, staring at more photos of them smiling, traveling, and sharing intimate moments (there were even photos of her with his family and you almost felt like throwing up), the weight of it settled on you.
It hit you all at once—the reality that Paul wasn’t just out of reach, but he was with someone else. And in that moment, the pain was sharper than you expected. You’d been holding onto a hope that was never yours to have, and suddenly you’re reminded of why you never pursued a connection, until now.
Another rush of emotions hit you like a bus—jealousy, sadness, and a crushing sense of inadequacy. You couldn’t help but compare yourself to the girl in the photos, wondering if you were ever enough or if you’d ever measure up to what Paul seemed to have with someone else.
It seemed impossible, especially when you were just a regular girl, whilst Paul’s girlfriend looked like she modeled during the off-season.
It didn’t make sense, you knew that. After all, you had no claim over him. But the feelings didn’t care about logic. The more you thought about it, the more it hurt—you couldn’t shake the sting of seeing them together, knowing you weren’t ever meant to be part of his story.
It felt like a cruel reminder that no matter how much you’d hoped, love was always just out of reach. The realization hits you like a punch to the gut, and for a moment, you can’t bring yourself to look away.
It is now the present and you feel better, but you haven’t fully healed from the trauma just yet. You were so determined to distract yourself from the pain that you had thrown yourself into work and your blog that you had created as an escape from the world.
The rhythm of curating content helps clear your mind, and you even rediscover hobbies you had set aside for too long in the midst of it all. You hadn't given up on love entirely but forced yourself to keep your mind occupied so that the pain would be the least of your worries.
Whenever the emotions and stress of work start to overwhelm you, you lean on your friends, finding comfort in their support and understanding. It’s not a perfect fix, but it helps you push forward, one step at a time.
Ever since you decided to swamp yourself with work, you started to find new friendships with the other rookies and drivers on the grid.
Pepe Martí is someone you’ve seen around before, but you’ve never really interacted with much. You were always mostly with Paul or Ollie, sometimes Isack, Pepe’s teammate, but you barely crossed each other’s paths unless it came to media or updates regarding the F2 socials.
Unexpectedly, as you start to bump into him more often, you start noticing his presence just a bit more. At first, it’s casual—a quick hello in passing, a smile shared before he goes on his way. But soon, it feels like more.
You start to notice how often your paths cross, as if the universe is aligning in subtle ways, but you digress, since you were way too focused on yourself and work to even think about anything else.
Soon enough, you find yourself hanging around the Campos Racing garage during the next few races. What catches you off guard is how warm and attentive Pepe is whenever you’re there to have a casual chat or just to relax before they get on track.
In every conversation, whether it’s about racing or something completely unrelated, he listens with genuine interest.
There’s no rush, no forced small talk. It’s as if he cares about what you’re saying, and that’s something you didn’t realize you’d been missing.
You first notice it one afternoon when you’re at the F2 paddock, buried in your phone and laptop as you work on a new blog post. A familiar voice interrupts your focus.
“Hey,” Pepe says, leaning against the fence next to you with a casual smile. His presence is relaxed but unwavering, as if he’s just always there. “I saw your latest post about the Monaco Grand Prix. That was pretty solid. You have a real way with words.”
You glance up, a little surprised by the compliment, but you return his smile. “Thanks,” you reply, trying to keep your voice steady. “I’ve been diving into the details a bit more lately.”
You weren't used to compliments on things like your blog, but when someone notices how much work you put in, you can’t help but feel bashful.
Pepe nods, clearly interested. “I can tell. I didn’t realize you knew so much about the strategy behind it all.”
“F1 is a lot more than just the race itself,” you explain, feeling a spark of excitement. “It’s the stories, the tactics, the behind-the-scenes stuff that gets missed.”
He seems genuinely engaged. “You should do a piece on how the strategy changes with the weather conditions next time. It’d be interesting to see your take on it.”
You blink in surprise, almost speechless. “That’s a great idea, actually,” you admit, a little flustered.
Pepe grins. “Glad you think so. I’ll be reading it when it’s up.” He straightens up, giving you a wink before walking away, leaving you both flattered and puzzled by his sudden interest.
‘Lock in, Y/n. God, now is not the time to be flustered because of a guy,’ you try to shake off the feeling but can’t help but feel a newfound sense of appreciation towards Pepe.
Over the next few days, you notice Pepe around more. It starts with small things—asking for your opinion on the latest race results, asking if you’re going to any of the after-race events, or simply offering a casual “Hey, how’s the blog going?” when he sees you walking between the pits.
Each time, his words are light but thoughtful, as though he’s genuinely interested, not just making small talk. There’s no rush to any of his actions, no pressure—just a quiet confidence that feels both comforting and intriguing.
One evening, after a long day of racing, you find him sitting in the garage and staring out at the grandstand as he is looking up at the sunset. You walk over, hesitant but curious.
“Mind if I join?” you ask, your voice barely above a whisper.
He looks up, his smile warm and easy. “Not at all. The view’s better with company, anyway.”
You sit down next to him, and for a few moments, there’s just the hum of the distant engines and the warmth of the setting sun. Then, quietly, Pepe turns toward you.
“I like how you see things,” he says, his voice sincere. “The way you talk about the races, the details... it’s like you bring a whole new perspective to it. Not many people see it the way you do.” You look at him, surprised by his words.
“I’m just... trying to share the side of it people don’t always notice. You know, the stuff that’s hidden.” Pepe nods slowly, as if processing your words. “Yeah, I get that. You have a way of making the unseen things feel important.”
For a moment, you both sit in comfortable silence, the connection between you growing deeper with each passing second. He doesn’t push. He doesn’t rush. He’s just there, a steady presence, showing up when you least expect it.
And slowly, it starts to feel like maybe this quiet, consistent attention is something more than just friendly banter.
It wasn’t noticeable at first—mostly small gestures that you brush off as coincidence.
One morning, after a particularly tough day at the track, you’re buried in your laptop, trying to finish up a blog post, when you hear footsteps behind you.
You look up to find Pepe standing there, holding out a Red Bull can in your direction with a small smile.
“Figured you could use this,” he says, his voice casual but thoughtful. “You looked like you could use a pick-me-up.”
You blink, surprised by the gesture. Energy drinks weren’t exactly your choice of drink when it came to caffeine, but you were grateful for the drink. “Thanks, I really appreciate it.”
Pepe shrugs, a playful glint in his eyes. “No problem. I’ve been there—long days, late nights. Thought a Red Bull might help since I don’t really like coffee.”
You accept the drink and open it, feeling a warmth spread through you—not from the Red Bull, but from the kindness in his eyes.
It’s not the first time he’s done something like this. The more you think about it, the more you realize that, over the past few weeks, he’s been going out of his way to make sure you feel seen—whether it’s checking in on how your day’s going or making sure you’re okay during hectic moments.
As the days pass, he starts sharing stories about his own struggles in racing—how he’s dealt with pressure, the challenges of balancing his personal life with his career (not to mention the shitty luck he’d been having lately).
His openness catches you off guard, and you find yourself listening intently, feeling a connection you didn’t expect.
“You’d be surprised how much racing can mess with your head sometimes,” he says one afternoon, leaning against a wall as he talks. “But you have to push through, even when everything feels off.”
His words linger with you long after the conversation ends. And for the first time, you see him in a new light—not just as someone who’s kind and attentive, but as someone who truly understands the ups and downs of life, someone who knows how to make you feel special without even trying.
Despite Pepe’s kindness lately, you hesitate. Every time he goes out of his way to make you feel special, you can’t help but feel a flutter in your chest, but something pulls you back.
Your mind still lingers on Paul—the way he smiled at her, the way his presence felt so magnetic, even from a distance. It’s like an anchor you can’t shake, a feeling you’re not ready to let go of.
One night, unable to sleep, you find yourself texting your closest friend, Marina. You vent about everything—how much you’re drawn to Pepe’s attention, but how you feel stuck on Paul, unable to move past the crush that was never meant to be.
Your Marina’s reply comes almost immediately. "You’re holding onto something that wasn’t yours to begin with. Paul is in a relationship, and no matter how much you wish it were different, you deserve more than just hoping for a chance."
The words hit harder than you expect, and you feel the truth in them—like a weight lifting off your chest. You pause, staring at the screen, then take a deep breath. "I know," you text back. "I’m just scared to let go."
Your friend’s response is simple but reassuring: "Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It just means making space for something that’s actually real."
You close your eyes for a moment, letting those words sink in. And for the first time, you feel the weight of holding onto Paul begin to lift, replaced by a quiet sense of clarity. Maybe you’re ready to move forward.
It’s late one evening, and you find yourself talking to Pepe again, this time in the quiet of a nearly empty garage after a long day of media and racing.
The conversation starts off light, but as the hours pass, something shifts. You’re sitting across from him, both of you exhausted but not ready to call it a night.
Without warning, Pepe looks at you, his usual playful demeanor replaced by something more earnest.
“You know,” he says, his voice softer than usual, “I really admire how you handle everything. I’ve seen the way you juggle work, racing, everything. You’ve got this strength about you that’s... rare. It’s not just about how you push through tough times, but the way you stay true to yourself, even when everything feels impossible.”
You blink, caught off guard by the sincerity in his words. “I... don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything,” he replies, his gaze steady. “I just think you’re incredible. And I don’t think enough people tell you that.”
His words catch you off guard, and something inside you stirs—a warmth, a flutter of something new. The walls you’ve carefully built around yourself begin to crack, just a little.
It’s not just the compliment itself, but the way he says it—without any expectation, no hidden motive. Just pure, honest admiration.
You look at him, really look at him, and for the first time, you begin to see him in a new light. He’s not just kind and attentive—he’s genuine, and that genuineness makes everything about him feel different, something you didn’t expect.
You sit in silence for a moment, letting his words settle in. The weight of the day, the pressure of expectations, and the uncertainty that’s been following you around seem to melt away, if only for a brief second.
You didn’t realize how much you needed to hear that—to be seen, really seen, for who you are and not just what you do.
Pepe shifts a little, his gaze still warm and steady. “I know and understand that it’s not easy. I’ve seen how much effort you put into everything you do. But don’t forget that you deserve to have someone see you for the amazing person you are, not just for what you’re capable of.”
You swallow, blinking away the unexpected emotion. The vulnerability in his words makes your heart ache, but in a way that feels freeing, like a weight lifting off your shoulders. “I... don’t know if I believe that,” you admit, your voice softer than you expected.
“You will,” he says with a smile that makes your chest flutter. “Because you’re worth it. You’ve always been worth it.”
The sincerity in his eyes, the quiet but powerful way he expresses his admiration—it breaks through the last of the walls you’ve built up around yourself.
In that moment, you realize how much he’s not just seen you, but understood you. And maybe, just maybe, it’s time to start seeing him, too, not as someone in the background of your thoughts, but as someone who could be a part of your future.
Suddenly, you realize that this connection with him could be more than just a passing feeling.
As the days pass, you find yourself spending more time with Pepe—whether it's during work events, casual hangouts, or just those quiet moments where the world seems to slow down. And with each interaction, you begin to notice the little things that set him apart.
It’s in the way he listens when you talk, really listens, as if he values every word you say. He doesn't just hear you; he understands you.
When you ramble on about your latest fashion idea or a new post you're planning for your blog, he’s there, nodding along, offering insights or just genuinely interested in what excites you. He makes you feel like your passions are important, even if they seem trivial to others.
And then there’s the way he encourages you, not just with words, but in his actions. When you doubt yourself, he’s there to remind you of your strength, to tell you that you’re capable of so much more than you realize.
It’s the little things—those quiet words of encouragement when you need them most—that make you feel seen in ways you hadn’t expected.
But perhaps most of all, it’s the care he shows for your happiness. It’s the way he asks about your day, not because he feels he has to, but because he genuinely wants to know.
How your day went, if you’re feeling okay, if there's anything he can do to make things better. It’s a kindness you didn’t know you needed, and slowly, you begin to realize that these small acts—these simple gestures—are what make him someone truly special.
When things aren’t going as smoothly for him, you’re there to support him in the same way. You’re with him through the highs and the lows, whether it’s during a frustrating race where he’s forced to retire early or a weekend where things just don’t seem to click.
After a no-finish result in one of the races, you tell him: “You gave it your all. It wasn’t your day, but I know you'll bounce back.” It’s the small, thoughtful words that show him you care, even when he’s at his lowest.
Then comes the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. You’re watching the race unfold, and your stomach drops when you see his car lose control and crash.
You hold your breath, your heart pounding, as the screen cuts away. Your thoughts race until you hear an update confirming that he’s okay, but you can’t help but worry. You know he’s going to be shaken up, even if it doesn’t show.
You’re one of the first people to get to the medical bay after the crash. When you walk in, Pepe is sitting on the bed, his helmet off, his face a mix of frustration and exhaustion.
His eyes meet yours, and for a moment, there's a silence between you. He’s still processing everything that just happened.
“Hey," you say softly, approaching him. "You good?"
He gives a small, tired smile. "Yeah, just... it's frustrating, you know? I thought I had it under control, but... things happen. Not to mention the lock up we had the other day,"
You pull up a chair beside him, sitting down without a second thought. "I saw it. But you’re here, and that’s all that matters." You place a hand on his arm, offering a quiet reassurance. "I’m just glad you're okay."
He meets your eyes, his expression softening. "Thanks for being here," he says, his voice sincere. "It means a lot, more than you know."
For a moment, you just sit there together, the chaos of the race weekend fading into the background. And as you talk about the race, his crash, and what’s next, you realize just how much you care—not just for his career, but for him.
The connection you share feels deeper than ever, something solid and real.
After everything—the highs and lows, the moments of doubt and clarity—you find yourself standing at a crossroads.
You think about all the times you’ve hesitated, the moments you almost pulled away, unsure if you were ready to move on, still clinging to a love that never was. But as you look at Pepe, sitting beside you, as present and steady as he’s always been, something clicks.
It’s not just the way he’s supported you, or how he’s always seen the best in you, even when you couldn’t see it in yourself.
It’s how he makes you feel, not just valued, but cherished for exactly who you are—the messy, complex, imperfect you. In his eyes, you’re enough. And for the first time in a long time, you believe it, too.
Pepe’s kindness, patience, and unwavering support have shown you a kind of love that’s not based on fleeting moments or unattainable ideals. It’s real. It’s grounded. And more than anything, it’s filled with hope—a hope you hadn’t realized you’d lost until now.
So, when he looks at you, his gaze filled with something deeper than friendship, you finally allow yourself to take the leap. You smile, a little unsure, but ready. “Pepe, I think I’m ready for this.”
He grins, his eyes lighting up with a warmth that makes your heart flutter. “Me too,” he says, his voice low and genuine. “I’ve been waiting for you to be ready.”
In that moment, you know, with certainty, that you’ve chosen the right path. You’re not just moving on—you’re moving forward, with someone who will walk beside you every step of the way, supporting you, loving you, and reminding you that you’re worthy of all the happiness you’ve been seeking.
Epilogue:
Months have passed since you and Pepe decided to give love a real shot, and life has never felt brighter. His unwavering presence and quiet strength have become your anchor, and the happiness you’ve found together is undeniable.
The laughter you share, the quiet moments together, and the way he looks at you with so much care and love, it all fills you with a peace you didn’t know was possible.
It’s the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, and Pepe is in peak form. You’re on the edge of your seat, clutching your puppy’s leash as the race unfolds.
When Pepe crosses the finish line in first place, the roar of the crowd barely registers as you’re too busy cheering alongside his parents with all your might.
Later, you meet him in parc fermé, tears of joy in your eyes as he steps out of the car. He doesn’t hesitate, pulling you into a tight hug, his helmet still tucked under his arm.
“I couldn’t have done it without you,” he whispers, his words meant just for you despite the bustling celebrations around you.
That evening, you’re by his side as the team celebrates his victory. The champagne flows, and the glow of his achievement lights up the room. But it’s the quiet moments you share—when he leans over to steal a kiss and murmurs how much you mean to him—that remind you how lucky you are.
The next day, as you’re strolling through the paddock together, you catch sight of Paul in the distance.
He’s talking to someone, but his eyes briefly flicker to you and Pepe. His expression shifts for just a second—an unrecognizable look you can’t quite place—but you don’t dwell on it.
Pepe squeezes your hand, and your attention snaps back to him. He’s smiling at you in that way that makes your heart race, the way that reminds you of why you chose him. The life you’ve built together is filled with love, laughter, and hope—and you wouldn’t trade it for anything.

These last few days the rain has been constant. The temperatures have been hitting as low as 18C, which is uncommon for high summer. When the rain breaks I've been putting on my music and walking by the water, taking photos of the waves as they crash against the natural and manmade wave breaks. By the water, as the oddly warm wind whips around you, you feel a truly deep connection with the natural world. It's easy to forget everything wrong with the world when it's just you, your music, and that connection you share with nature. For those moments, all else is meaningless. It's almost like a state of Zen, or Nirvana. Your relationship woes, the people you've hurt, the hurt that's been inflicted upon you, the vicious nature of all things that exists exclusively in the realms of human dominion, it's all trivial and utterly unimportant. It's out in the real world, you truly begin to understand, our connection with the world itself is everything. No wonder we're so miserable surrounded by all of these objects of scorn. The electricity that courses above our heads through powerlines, the wi-fi and Bluetooth frequencies, signals, and fields that we live in, and the networking cables beneath our feet that link us to other countries and even continents. So many of us go out of our way to avoid Mother Nature because it's her domain is an inconvenience to us and our current lifestyles and/or way of life. We encroach further and further into her abode; the last and most ancient vestiges of our species still scattered in the deepest, darkest pockets of old growth forests and woods. Once upon a time, not so long ago in the timeline of our species' history, we lived symbiotically with Mother Nature. The rain was our friend and the cool, refreshing feel of her tears upon our skin was a reminder of our own mortality and of the intricate link between nature and us; mankind. There is a line in an older Weedeater song that's stuck with me ever since I first heard it, "Mankind is unkind, man." How painfully true it is. We are unkind to ourselves, but especially to our original mother, Mother Nature; the earth itself. So when I walk by the ocean a little later on today, I will reflect on how beautiful it is to be alive in this moment, and to exist in a time period where I can still walk along by the water and breath deeply of the cool salty air, filling my lungs with the essence of the earth itself. The smells of the moss and mud. The familiar sound of seabirds and of the waves themselves. I will appreciate them. Soon, not too far away, this will be taken from all of us. The lakes and oceans will be polluted, irradiated, and toxic. The birds will no longer sing for us, the wind will no longer carry the smell of the briny ocean, but the stench of death and rot. We will have ripped whatever resources out from the earth, and in its place we will leave disease, famine, poverty, and pestilence. The legacy of our species will be written on future maps and our descendants, and the children of our descendants, will walk what tiny parts of the natural world that remain, weeping over everything we lost and were too selfish to prevent, learning about how we destroyed everything we should've always remained connected to in the first place. That poverty, the one of never having experienced the might and majesty of nature itself, will forever mark and stain our species. When we're the very last ones left, once we've ripped and raped everything from this earth. We will persist as the apex predators. The apex of nothing and the pinnacle of ultimate annihilation.

Survival Communication: Staying Connected Off-Grid
Imagine this: you’re deep in the wilderness, surrounded by towering trees and the sounds of nature, when suddenly your phone dies. Panic sets in. How will you communicate with your group? How will you call for help? In a world where we rely heavily on technology, the thought of being off-grid can feel like stepping into a black hole of isolation. But fear not! Survival communication is not just about shouting into the void. It’s about staying connected, even when the Wi-Fi signal is as elusive as a unicorn. Understanding Off-Grid Communication Off-grid communication is like a secret language spoken by those who venture into the wild. It’s about using tools and techniques that don’t rely on traditional networks. Think of it as a survival toolkit for your social life. Here are some key methods: Two-Way Radios: These handy devices can keep you connected over several miles. They’re like walkie-talkies for adults, perfect for coordinating with your crew. Satellite Phones: If you need to reach the outside world, a satellite phone is your best bet. It works anywhere, even in the most remote locations. Signal Mirrors: A flash of sunlight can send a message across miles. It’s like Morse code, but with a little more sparkle. Flares: When all else fails, a flare can signal for help. Just don’t forget to aim it away from your friends! Choosing the Right Tools Not all communication tools are created equal. Choosing the right one can be the difference between a fun adventure and a survival nightmare. Here’s what to consider: Range: How far do you need to communicate? Some radios work only a few miles, while others can reach hundreds. Battery Life: In the wild, power sources are scarce. Opt for devices with long-lasting batteries or solar charging options. Durability: Your gear should withstand the elements. Look for waterproof and shock-resistant options. Ease of Use: If you’re in a panic, you don’t want to fumble with complicated gadgets. Choose user-friendly devices. Mastering Non-Verbal Communication Sometimes, words aren’t enough. Non-verbal communication can be a lifesaver in survival situations. Think of it as the art of saying a lot without saying anything at all. Here are some techniques: Hand Signals: Develop a set of hand signals with your group. It’s like a secret handshake, but for survival. Body Language: Your posture and movements can convey messages. Stand tall and confident to show you’re in control. Visual Signals: Use bright colors or reflective materials to catch attention. A bright orange tarp can be a beacon in the wilderness. Case Study: The 2019 Appalachian Trail Rescue In 2019, a group of hikers on the Appalachian Trail found themselves in a sticky situation. One member fell and injured their leg, leaving them stranded. Luckily, they had a satellite phone. They called for help, and within hours, rescuers arrived. This incident highlights the importance of having reliable communication tools when venturing off-grid. It’s not just about staying connected; it’s about survival. Insider Tips for Staying Connected Want to be the communication guru of your group? Here are some insider tips that can elevate your off-grid communication game: Practice Before You Go: Familiarize yourself with your devices. Practice using them in a controlled environment. Keep a Backup: Always have a backup plan. If your primary device fails, what’s your next move? Stay Informed: Know the terrain and potential communication challenges. Some areas may have dead zones. Regular Check-Ins: Establish a routine for checking in with your group. It keeps everyone on the same page. Conclusion Survival communication is an essential skill for anyone venturing off-grid. With the right tools and techniques, you can stay connected, even in the wildest of places. From two-way radios to signal mirrors, there’s a world of options to explore. Remember, it’s not just about technology; it’s about creativity and resourcefulness. So gear up, practice your signals, and get ready for your next adventure! via https://ift.tt/Z1o46ik

Lindenhurst.
I lived in Brentwood for much of my timeline; mostly at my childhood home and later moved down the road not too far away post-Stony Brook. The latter move was a result of me refusing to move down to Myrtle Beach with my parents. I never had any desire to leave New York State and I never had enough of visiting New York City. Around the time, the economy plundered. I went broke and applied for the first job opportunity that was open in order to survive. I had no idea that place would ruin me. For most of the time at the second Brentwood residency, I wasn’t feeling 100% because of constant targeting of management and their crony co-workers. It took me a while to get back on track and eventually whatever I lost I gained back and more. I discovered a few key artists that made me see the light. I got back into broadcasting with a new radio show, and I finally re-united with Cath- whom I haven’t seen in a few years due to her addiction and sordid history.
But, some things turn sour that’s not your fault. Ma’ commits suicide and your dad ends up moving back in with you. You end up working two jobs without a day-off in near vicinity. Cath-’s #1 dies of a heroin overdose and she cuts off all ties from you with absolutely no reason given. Your unemployed gamer landlord doesn’t put in his fair share of rent and utilities, so you end up with no internet and you’re literally freezing because there’s no running heat or hot water for all of winter. Of all the major events going on, that final one had my bro- take notice. He was living with his lady and their first-born in Lindenhurst. He felt so bad learning I was living with no utilities that he not only offered me to move in with him to Lindenhurst but also into a new house. I shouldn’t say ‘offered’. He told me so. Sure. I wasn’t complaining.
I had about a week to pack up all the loose ends and was told to take out all my records, discs, cassettes, VHS tapes, and DVDs from the drawers and throw them in giant bins. Him and his friends managed to lift all the furniture up out of the old Brentwood residency and into the new one in Lindenhurst. It was my duty to take some of the smaller boxes of personals to stuff in the trunk, back seat, and passengers’ seat of my car.
I’d be leaving behind the un-mopped dingy floors, the eventual basement floods, and the other disused soot-ridden rooms which the former random inhabitants lived in. One ‘neighbor’ who lived in the adjacent room from me came home on the weekends totally wasted that he collapsed face first on the floor as soon as he walked in. He almost caused a house fire by forgetting the bag of popcorn he was cooking in the microwave. And the best one – get ready for this - was when a fully nude lady almost walked into my room. It was his prostitute looking for him. Jesus Fucking Christ.
I went to work and was told by my bro- that everything would be moved in the same day, so just come to the new house in Lindenhurst. I had no idea how good I had it. My new room was up on the second floor and triple the size of my previous one. Carpeted floors. Windows that faced the peeking sun. Low-flying passenger jets. A wider, larger closet space, and a pair of smaller doors revealing an attic for storage. Plus, being in Lindenhurst meant that three record stores were in near vicinity: West Babylon’s Looney Tunes, Amityville’s High Fidelity, and Massapequa’s Infinity Records. Lindenhurst had quickly become a favorite place to live in.
I arrived from work on a sunny 70* Sunday. June 1st to be exact. Most of what I kept from my childhood home and the previous residency came with me to Lindenhurst such as a gumball machine, my gramma’s Lafayette LR-810 receiver, and a massive Philips 24” CRT TV that would paralyze anyone attempting to lift it. All of it was there and a few boxes of my audio / video library. I wasn’t interested in unpacking. Not just yet. Our wi-fi network was set-up. That was the most important thing to me. I haven’t had consistent wi-fi in six months. The first thing I looked up was to see how Cath- was doing despite her taking everything we had and throwing out the trash as if it was nothing. Good news: she’s started a new life solo in Arizona and has been clean for one month.
The first finds to mark my new stay in Lindenhurst? Someone had posted Pharmakon’s “Xia Xinfeng” where her murderous screams break through a fully-running frigidly cold hum. I was sold instantly. The vinyl-finds groups lead me to Mass Production and Peter Brown; soul-jazz and pop respectively. I stuck with the L.I.E.S. label after fully enjoying Ron Morelli’s solos for a quite a while, all released through Dominick Fernow’s Hospital Productions. His label compilation, Music For Shut-Ins, supplied Samantha’s Vacation, Svengalisghost, and Legowelt. Omar Souleyman started gaining a name for himself in the states. Experiencing “Kell Il Banat Inkhatban (All The Girls Are Engaged)“ is truly something. I never heard keyboards go that crazy. Then we have WUSB’s own Alice, dee-jay of Nightmare Aquarium. Without her, I wouldn’t have known who Ariel Pink and William Onyeabor were. I credit her for introducing me to the magically sublime Black Marble.
Nary did I have a day off during that Summer I moved in. I could only count four…maybe six total. The electronics place finally gave me full time, double-dealing between that and part-time at the Italian market. The only stand-out moment I had during the hotter months was getting lost somewhere in the sunny woodsy section of Mastic looking for Nicole’s residency which I did find an hour late. Nowadays, one listen to A Different Arrangement instantly takes me back to those June Sundays.
Autumn came. The days were getting cooler and darker. Driving past Argyle Pond coming home from work became a staple memory with synthwave vibes of “Fright Night” from Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti forever attached to it. Hospital Productions gave me another artist to savor in the Italian-based Ninos Du Brasil with their dying-hot exotic techno sounds. Suicideyear would be distinct to the season and to Lindenhurst alone which makes their sound personal in my book. Another neighborhood memory, Dual Action’s “NC-17 Drive In”, is forever intertwined to the Autumn soul. Our WUSB hip-hop dee-jay Dr. Ceus played me SpaceGhostPurrp’s “Mystical Maze” adding another bookmark in this asterisk time. Mono/Poly’s “Alpha Omega”, Lussuria’s “Mondo Narcotico” and “Keys To Unlock Paradise (Roman Showers)” from American Babylon,Function & Vatican Shadow’s Games Have Rules, the obscure Axxa/Abraxas’ “Waiting Daze”, and selections from The Bug’s Angels & Devils left their imprints on another feel-good season at Lindenhurst.
Before I knew it, my streak of 83 straight days of work was finally broken a few days before Thanksgiving. I came to visit the market for my hours to see that I was written out of the grid. Week after week it became a normal occurrence. I’ve been giving them my other hours in time without fail but now no more results. No discussion, no rhyme or reason why. I was let go without any notice. It was a blessing, however. A soft end to six years of non-stop belittling, boys-club behavior, and endless soul-torturing has finally been put down to die.
Winter was where things started to get fucked for discoveries; like the ‘parenthesis’ in an equation. My ex- Yenny is leaving for Lima and she’s asked me to house-sit for her in Hauppauge. A two-week stay meant all music discoveries default there. A residency inside a residency. Before and after, XXYYXX’s only full-length and two finds from the Ze label Xmas Record, Suicide’s “Hey Lord” and Alan Vega’s “No More Christmas Blues” are embedded in those frosty, chilly Winter days back in Lindy-. The latter two would be put on pause as I walked a couple of blocks to the bagel place for a heavy baked breaded breakfast.
Then came a March announcement from my bro-: we’re moving to Ronkonkoma. This was unexpected. He was excited to start a new point in his life. His lady was expecting their second child and wanted something even nicer than what we have. There was no issue with where we lived. I had none and truly wanted to stay longer. But, what my bro- was selling us on that we’d upgrade from the slightly crowded residential streets, noise-polluting airplanes, and highways across every direction for a gentler, calmer, at-peace setting of historical context, well-manicured lawns, trails, veteran’s parks, and a 4.5 square-mile scenic lake. To me, Ronkonkoma was Record Stop on Portion Road, punk luminary Jimi LaLumia’s Record Connection on Hawkins Road, and what used to be Lakeside’s bar where I’d go for some small-scale but breakout-violent local hardcore shows. Other than LaLumia, none are still standing. It’s a new decade now; far away from the community-college shows and record-buying jaunts from the Stony Brook era. We had up until May 1st to get everything together. The Lindenhurst finds dwindled down to nothing, and all the discoveries found that Spring ended up at the current residency we’re at now. It was time to say goodbye to my old furniture: the twin-sized bed, the old bookshelves, dressers, drawers, the gumball machine, and the Lafayette that was losing its functionality. We left all the small stuff in front of the gate and left the furniture behind. Goodbye Lindenhurst and hello Ronkonkoma.
**********
I can tell you that my very first experience in the new neighborhood was delightful and exotic. We were only a few blocks away from the new house. My dad had me pull up to our neighborhood 7-11 for his daily coffee. I grab a pack of Hostess chocolate cupcakes and behind the counter I see the perfect ginger. Bright long copper hair, brown eyes, freckles, and all of pale skin. Jackpot. She was a sight to be seen.
There was a line of five people in front of us with two registers open. Dad was more than ready to sip his coffee but was getting restless as the scalding hot was wearing off. Lucky for me, the young Indian kid took care of him. I put my Hostess on the counter for the ginger to ring up. She was quiet, expressionless. Tired, bored, introverted? Who knows. Who cares. She made quick work of my purchase and I was two more cupcakes happier. The day was off to a great start. I didn’t believe people like her existed.
She was my very first memory at the new neighborhood. I still remember her to this very day. There’s some faces you never forget.

Another HUGE Blow...
It was recently announced by Nintendo that the Nintendo Network used for the 3DS and Wii U will be shut down early next year. Effectively cutting online play for those systems.
This is a massive blow for me. The 3DS and Wii U eShop were closed a year ago. Give the consoles a rest!
There's so many games I play with others on my Wii U, like Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. But after the Nintendo Network gets shut down, playing these games will become boring after a while.
The 3DS is also the system I use the most. So, how can I get more Bells and items for free in Animal Crossing: New Leaf? (Yes. I still play that game. I think it's more enjoyable than New Horizons.) Tortimer's Island won't be as fun without having anyone to talk to. Swapdoodle will become a paperweight without a way to send mail to friends and will end up taking space on my system.
I still find it amazing that the Wii U, a failed system, has a working internet browser, and the Switch, THE best-selling system on the market, doesn't. It goes to show that just because something didn't sell well, doesn't mean that it's awful.
The thing I'm worried about the most is Pokémon. How will people be able to complete their collections without having to seek out someone in person? How will they battle with anyone besides themselves?
What about Pokémon Bank or Poké Transporter? Aside from being able to store excess Pokémon somewhere safe, we might never be able to transfer older Pokémon to current or future titles. The link between older Pokémon games and Pokémon games on the Switch is waning. It won't be long before it's permanently erased.
People always talk about how great change is. But they forget there's also bad change. How does it feel to lose every single thing you've loved since childhood due to executive demands? I wish it didn't have to be this way. But sometimes, life can be so unfair.
I know fans will find a way to revive the Nintendo Network like they did with Nintendo Wi-Fi and Wiiconnect24. But the Nintendo Network is the only internet service Nintendo provides these days that doesn't cost money. It's like we're losing the last of the old Nintendo before we're stuck with the horrible new one. And that's a future no one should live in.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY WHILE TRAVELLING THE WORLD

HOW TO MAKE MONEY WHILE TRAVELLING THE WORLD
1) Freelance Work
The gig economy has made it easier than ever to find freelance jobs that can be done remotely from anywhere with an internet connection. Consider offering services like writing, virtual assisting, coding, graphic design, or consulting in your area of expertise.
Traveling the world and making money at the same time sounds like a dream, right? Thanks to the internet, this dream is now more achievable than ever. One of the best ways to fund your travels is by doing freelance work. Let’s dive into how you can get started and what kind of jobs you might want to consider.
Getting Started with Freelancing
First things first, you need to figure out what skills you have that you can offer as a service. Are you good at writing, designing, or coding? Maybe you’re great at organizing things and can work as a virtual assistant. Once you know your strengths, you can start looking for freelance jobs that match your skills.
There are many websites where you can find freelance gigs. Some of the popular ones include Upwork, Freelancer, and Fiverr. These platforms connect freelancers with clients looking for specific services. Creating a profile on these sites is usually free, but it’s important to make your profile stand out. Use a professional photo, write a clear and engaging description of your skills, and showcase your best work in your portfolio.
Types of Freelance Work
Here are some common types of freelance work that you can do while traveling:
Writing: If you have a knack for words, there are many opportunities for freelance writers. You can write blog posts, articles, website content, and even eBooks. Clients pay well for quality writing, and all you need is your laptop and some creativity.
Virtual Assisting: As a virtual assistant, you can help businesses with tasks like email management, scheduling, social media management, and customer service. It’s a great way to use your organizational skills while traveling.
Coding and Web Development: If you know how to code, there are plenty of freelance jobs in web development, app development, and software programming. These jobs often pay well and can be done from anywhere.
Graphic Design: Designers are always in demand. Whether it’s creating logos, website designs, or marketing materials, if you have an eye for design and the right software, you can make a good living as a freelance graphic designer.
Consulting: If you’re an expert in a particular field, consider offering consulting services. Businesses are willing to pay for expert advice in areas like marketing, business strategy, and technology.
Finding Clients and Getting Paid
Finding clients might take some time, especially if you’re just starting out. Start by reaching out to your network and letting people know you’re available for freelance work. You can also join online communities and forums related to your field. Building relationships and getting referrals is a great way to find clients.
When it comes to getting paid, make sure you agree on the terms before starting any work. Use contracts to outline the scope of the project, deadlines, and payment details. Most freelance platforms have secure payment systems, but if you’re working directly with clients, tools like PayPal and TransferWise can help you get paid quickly and safely.
Balancing Work and Travel
One of the biggest challenges of being a digital nomad is finding the right balance between work and travel. It’s important to set a schedule that allows you to meet your work deadlines while still enjoying your travel experiences. Find quiet and comfortable places to work, like co-working spaces or cafes with good Wi-Fi. And don’t forget to take breaks and explore the places you’re visiting – after all, that’s why you’re traveling!
Conclusion
Freelancing is a fantastic way to make money while traveling the world. With the right skills and a bit of effort, you can find freelance work that fits your lifestyle and allows you to enjoy the freedom of being a digital nomad. So pack your bags, grab your laptop, and start your adventure – the world is waiting for you!
2) Teach English Online
If you’re a native English speaker, you already have a valuable skill that many people around the world want to learn. Teaching English online can be a flexible and rewarding job that fits perfectly with a travel lifestyle. Here’s how you can get started:
Choose a Platform: There are several companies that hire remote English teachers. Some of the most popular ones include VIPKID, DadaABC, and EF Education First. These companies provide the lesson plans and materials, so you don’t have to worry about creating your own curriculum. All you need is a computer, a stable internet connection, and a quiet place to teach.
Meet the Requirements: Most companies require you to have a bachelor’s degree and some teaching experience. However, the teaching experience can be flexible – it doesn’t always have to be formal classroom experience. Volunteer work, tutoring, or even coaching can count. Additionally, having a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification can make you a more attractive candidate.
Apply and Interview: Once you’ve chosen a platform, you’ll need to fill out an application and go through an interview process. This usually includes a demo lesson where you teach a sample class. Don’t worry if you’re nervous – these companies provide training and support to help you succeed.
What to Expect as an Online English Teacher
Teaching English online can be a very rewarding experience. You get to interact with students from different cultures and help them improve their English skills. Here’s what you can expect from the job:
Flexible Schedule: One of the best things about teaching English online is the flexibility. You can often choose your own hours, which makes it easy to fit teaching around your travel plans. However, keep in mind that your students might be in different time zones, so you may need to adjust your schedule accordingly.
Good Pay: The pay for online English teaching can be quite good, especially if you work with a reputable company. On average, you can expect to earn between $15 to $25 per hour. Some companies also offer bonuses for good performance or for teaching during peak hours.
Prepared Lessons: Most online teaching platforms provide lesson plans and teaching materials. This means you can focus on delivering the lessons rather than spending time preparing them. It also makes it easier to get started, even if you’re new to teaching.
Tips for Success
To be a successful online English teacher, here are a few tips:
Create a Good Teaching Environment: Make sure you have a quiet, well-lit space to teach from. A good headset with a microphone and a stable internet connection are essential. Some companies might also require a background that’s free of distractions.
Engage with Your Students: Building a good rapport with your students is key. Be enthusiastic, patient, and encouraging. Use props and visual aids to make your lessons more engaging and fun.
Be Reliable: Show up on time for your classes and be prepared. Reliability is important in building a good reputation with both your students and the platform you’re working for.
Conclusion
Teaching English online is a fantastic way to make money while traveling the world. With the right approach and a bit of preparation, you can start teaching and earning from anywhere. So if you’re a native English speaker looking for a flexible job that lets you see the world, give online teaching a try. It’s a great way to share your knowledge, meet new people, and fund your travels.

Platforms like Google Analytics for your blog, and Instagram or YouTube analytics for social media, can provide valuable insights. 4) Rent Out Your Home
If you’re planning to be away for a while, renting out your home can be a great way to earn some extra cash. Here’s how you can get started:
Choose a Platform: There are several websites where you can list your home for rent. Some of the most popular ones include Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway. These platforms make it easy to connect with people looking for a place to stay.
Prepare Your Home: Before you list your home, make sure it’s clean and well-maintained. Remove any personal items and valuables. Consider adding some nice touches like fresh linens, toiletries, and a welcome guide with information about your home and the local area. Good photos are crucial, so take high-quality pictures of each room to make your listing stand out.
Set Your Price: Research similar listings in your area to get an idea of what to charge. Consider factors like location, amenities, and the time of year. You want to set a competitive price that will attract guests but also ensure you’re making a decent income.
Understanding Legal Regulations
Before you start renting out your home, it’s important to understand the legal regulations in your area. Here are a few things to consider:
Check Local Laws: Some cities have specific rules about short-term rentals. You may need a permit or license, and there could be limits on how many days per year you can rent out your home. Check with your local government to find out what’s required.
Homeowners Association (HOA) Rules: If you live in a community with an HOA, make sure you understand their rules regarding rentals. Some HOAs have restrictions or require approval before you can rent out your property.
Insurance: Contact your home insurance provider to make sure you’re covered for short-term rentals. Some companies offer specific policies or riders for this purpose. It’s important to be fully protected in case of any damage or accidents.
Managing Your Rental
Once your home is listed and you have guests booked, managing your rental effectively is key to ensuring a smooth experience:
Communication: Be responsive to inquiries and communicate clearly with your guests. Provide them with all the information they need for a comfortable stay.
Cleaning and Maintenance: Arrange for regular cleaning and maintenance to keep your home in top condition. You might want to hire a property manager or cleaning service to take care of this while you’re away.
Reviews: Encourage your guests to leave reviews after their stay. Positive reviews will help attract more guests and can boost your listing’s visibility on rental platforms.
Conclusion
Renting out your home while you’re traveling is a fantastic way to make money and offset your travel expenses. With the right preparation and understanding of local regulations, you can turn your empty home into a source of income. So, if you’re planning to be away for a while, consider listing your home on a rental platform and enjoy the extra cash while you explore the world.
5) Work at a Hostel
Hey, here’s a cool way to save money on accommodation while you travel and even earn a bit on the side – working at a hostel! Yep, you read that right. Some hostels are happy to trade a bed and maybe a little cash for a bit of your time. Let’s dive into how this works.
Getting Started with Hostel Work
So, here’s the deal: You find a hostel you like and ask if they need any help. Often, they’re looking for people to do stuff like checking in guests, keeping things tidy, or leading tours. In exchange, they give you a bed to sleep in and sometimes a bit of spending money.
What You Might Do
What exactly you’ll be doing depends on the hostel. It could be anything from helping out at the reception desk to giving city tours to guests. Some might want you to do a bit of cleaning or help out with events they’re hosting. It’s usually pretty flexible, and you’ll have time to explore the area too.
Perks of Hostel Work
One of the best things about working at a hostel is the free accommodation. You get a place to sleep without having to fork out money for a hotel or Airbnb. Plus, you get to meet tons of cool people from all over the world. It’s like having instant friends wherever you go!
How to Find Hostel Jobs
Finding hostel jobs is pretty straightforward. Just pop into hostels you like and ask if they’re hiring. You can also check out hostel job boards online or on social media. Some websites list hostel jobs in different countries, so you can plan ahead if you’re traveling long-term.
Things to Keep in Mind
While working at a hostel can be fun and rewarding, there are a few things to consider:
Hours and Duties: Make sure you understand what’s expected of you in terms of hours and duties. You don’t want to end up working more than you bargained for or doing tasks you’re not comfortable with.
Accommodation Quality: Hostel accommodation can vary widely, so it’s a good idea to check out reviews or ask other travelers about the hostel before you agree to work there. You want to make sure you’ll be comfortable during your stay.
Legal Stuff: Depending on where you are, there might be rules about working in a foreign country. Make sure you’re allowed to work there legally and that you understand any visa or permit requirements.
Conclusion
Working at a hostel is a great way to save money on accommodation while traveling and meet new people along the way. Whether you’re looking for a short-term gig or a longer-term arrangement, there are plenty of opportunities out there. So next time you’re planning a trip, consider reaching out to hostels in your destination – you might just find your next adventure waiting for you!

Tips for Selling Successfully
Here are a few tips to help you sell your travel treasures like a pro:
Good Photos: People buy with their eyes, so make sure your photos are top-notch. Take clear, well-lit pictures that show off your items from all angles. This will help attract more buyers and make your products look more appealing.
Detailed Descriptions: Be sure to write detailed descriptions of your items, including things like size, materials, and any special features. The more information you provide, the easier it will be for buyers to make a decision.
Reasonable Prices: Do a bit of research to see what similar items are selling for. You don’t want to price yourself out of the market, but you also don’t want to sell yourself short. Find a balance that works for you and your customers.
Conclusion

Whether you’re into jewelry, artwork, textiles, or something else entirely, there’s a market out there for your unique finds. My brain is still poking Egg-related stuff to get it formatted, so lets talk about something else. As far as neat background details which explain bits of the AU but probably won't get brought up, in person in-character by any of the characters, we have c!Technoblade's chat!
...This is pretty world-build-y, actually.
So a Blade's core crystal is a computer processor. The more powerful the Blade, the more powerful the processor. Aegis Blades are the most powerful, and act as sort of nodes. Nodes for what? Well, Blades have a network.
See, the reason why Blades exist is so they can help regulate/debug the universe. They do this by drawing in aether from the environment, cleansing it, and then slowly radiating it back out into the world. All Blades do this, though Awakened Blades do it better. Blades provide stability to the universe, and the Blade network provides stability for the Blades.
Now, just because every core crystal is attached to the network, doesn't mean they can use it. Core crystals are themselves passive, and while the core personality of the Blade is present and hard-coded to the core crystal, an unAwakened Blade simply observes and passes observations around the network. It's a little like a dream, that they will not remember when they Awaken. When a Blade is Awakened they... lose wi-fi for lack of a better term?
An Awakened Blade is still connected to the network, and they are still passing observational data into the network. But they can't "read" the network data. The fact that there is a network at all kind of goes unnoticed to regular Blades, because they can't remember the time before their Awakening, including time spent as a core crystal.
Technoblade has his chat because he is a Heartstealer. Becoming a Heartstealer, no matter the circumstances, opens a Blade up for weird side-effects. Techno's was to hear the side chatter of the network.
See, I previously said that the Blade population is roughly 1/5 the Player population. But just because that's the total population, doesn't mean all of those Blades have Drivers at any one time. Only about 1/2 of Blades are in a Resonance. To use a set of small numbers--if there are 1,000,000 Players, then there are 200,000 Blades, of which 100,0000 are in Resonance.
Techno has partial wi-fi back in that he can hear the unAwakened Blades and the comments the base personalities make about the observational data they're processing. It's also why "chat" will sometimes go like "didn't you watch Punz's stream, didn't you watch Skeppy's stream?" The core crystals have swapped from processing information from another Blade to processing information from Technoblade.
To equate what's going on with this worldbuilding to things that happened in actual DSMP--the reason why c!Dream brings "clout" is that the core crystals tend to pay attention to his information because he is processing/sending the data like an Aegis would, even though he is a normal Blade. Because of this, the network tends to focus on what he's doing and tune in to the POVs of Blades around him.
This is also what XD is doing with Karl, a bit. He is reading the things Karl writes down, but he's also taking advantage of the Blade-magic/time travel to watch what Karl is seeing/hearing/etc ("streaming" Karl's POV, basically). This is not helping with the mind library disorganization problem.
Now, c!Philza's chat is different. The crows are spirits of the dead, and they are sent to Phil, or drawn to him, because he is the Aegis Blade of the Goddess of Death. Formerly vengeful, they are those who have since made their peace and chosen to forgive, but not forget, the circumstances that led to their death. The majority of them are people that Philza killed himself, acting as the Angel of Death, and technically pre-date the existence of the current "Phil."
#dsmp#dsmp au#c!technoblade#c!philza#DSMP Blade System AU#more worldbuilding notes!#if this is less coherent then normal I'm sorry but it's late and my notes are all over the place

Miss Kyouko’s Locked Room Lecture (3/7)
It was as if logic conundrums were toys for Kyouko-san to amuse herself with. Things being confusing enough as they were, you might wish she'd stop playing people like this.
For Kyouko-san, who had in a certain sense already completed her entrusted task, speaking of the case as if it were none of her concern may be merely be habit. However, no matter how unassuming her manner of speaking, her insights were keen and provoked thought, as Officer Tooasa thought. An open storefront should be the last place anyone would choose to commit murder.
Too many potential witnesses.
Even if you had doubts about the adjacent fitting room, you couldn’t ignore the crowd before you entered. The store wasn’t usually bustling, but holidays had drawn in a number of customers so high that inspectors had their hands full with questioning alone.
And not only eyewitnesses.
This wasn't exactlqy a quaint detective novel setting— CCTV cameras monitored every corner of the store, in full operation during business hours. Being an upscale establishment, security in this regard had to be foolproof.
They weren't tiny pinhole cameras; they were impossible to overlook with a slight upward glance. While there might be margin for errors and misinterpretations with human accounts, machines made no such blunders. A thorough analysis of the recorded footage was necessary, of course, but essentially, we must regard the images captured as absolute.
“But modern video camera designs sure are stylish.”
Kyouko-san interjected with this somewhat off-the-mark comment. From what he'd seen, Officer Tooasa did not consider the cameras exactly modern (more like antiquated), but soon enough, it clicked to him that this was the peculiar drawback of the forgetful detective.
Since her memory does not update, her definition of ‘modern’ increasingly diverged from reality. The incoming fashion terminology she had adequately prepared for, but anything not previewed was completely unknown to her.
Without any particular obligation to explain this point, he, feeling it necessary as somebody assisting in the investigation, casually ran through the structure.
“That is a wide-angle camera that manages images via Wi-Fi. A network camera, if you will. The footage is stored on the cloud and controlled by the store manager from a computer in the office, I think. So it would be tough to tamper with.”
“Wha… Wi-Fi? Clou-oud?”
Kyouko-san tilted her head quizzically, as if hearing words from another planet. ‘Cloud’ was one thing, but Wi-Fi had become relatively common vernacular ages ago, so just how far back did her memory go without updating— Officer Tooasa had thought of it as just a few, but it could well be ten, even fifteen years.
Or maybe all of them…
Hesitating to tread that far into curiosity, Officer Tooasa made do with simply giving a brief explanation of “Wi-Fi” and “cloud”.
“Wow, talk about high-tech!”
She looked very happy, nodding frequently in admiration.
Apparently delighted in having absorbed new knowledge— a detective without curiosity wouldn’t be much of one for sure. But no matter how much she learned— no matter what Tooasa taught her— she’d forget all about it by tomorrow.
“I see, I see. But bear in mind, security cameras are not foolproof. There are always blind spots.”
“That’s true.”
Strictly speaking, it’s not unfeasible to set up security cameras in such a way as to reduce blind spots to practically zero. However, if that were done, every square inch of the ceiling would be covered in cameras.
That would be quite ugly.
Customers couldn’t find peace of mind in such an environment, let alone enjoy shopping.
“That is the tricky part, yes. Make security too tight and it gives ordinary customers the feeling they’re being suspected of wrongdoing. Not a pleasant experience.”
“Yeah. And if you raise security awareness too conspicuously, paradoxically, it gives the impression of an unsafe environment.”
Officer Tooasa believed this principle applied not only to cameras but all crime prevention tactics and regulations.
“The number of security cameras in the store seems perfectly reasonable given the circumstances. They also use security tags to properly manage their merchandise.”
“Security tags.”
She repeated— unaware of security tags, no surely she wasn't— Kyouko-san obviously knew of them and went on to say,
“But neither cameras nor tags managed to prevent a murder.”
True enough, anti-theft measures only go so far. Crimes of impulse or desperation are difficult to prevent. Assuming these crimes are committed with the expectation of being caught, serving as a police officer must feel rather pointless— but, this is not always the case, so let’s not jump to conclusions.
“As far as we can tell from eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage, something’s off about this case. Besides the closed fitting room, the public’s eye seems to have formed a ‘locked room’ of sorts.”
“Locked room, you say?”
Caught off guard by her recognition of his attempt to simplify the explanation for her, he floundered a moment. Those were not the sort of words one should use around a detective.
Kyouko-san had repeated the phrase this time not out of lack of understanding.
Locked rooms only exist in detective fiction, or so people think. They exist in reality in various forms, whether or not they are called “locked rooms” is another debate. The term brings connotations of mystery and thrill that might seem insensitive when applied to real-life crimes, as though making light of it. It wasn’t jargon that a detective should use, let alone a police officer— a ‘locked room formed by public eye’ even, stretching the definition of a locked room, what a disaster.
As much as he had strived to separate his personal interests from his professional life, the unfamiliar restaurant setting— or perhaps the fact he was dining alone with a woman— had made him uncharacteristically nervous and allowed those words to slip out.
"Um, I-I beg your pardon, I promise I'm not just messing around..."
“No, not at all. You're correct, it really is a locked room. Could you be one of those who decided to become an inspector because you were a big fan of mystery novels?”
She had hit the bullseye.
He only let slip one offhand remark and it was as if she could see right through him. This must be a hallmark of her profession. Doubtless it was not based on any single word but rather an impression formed from his every word, action, and subtle cue. A simple denial— “It’s not like that”— would do. But flustered as he was, Officer Tooasa wavered. At such a question, the slightest hesitation could be taken as affirmation.
“Fufu.”
He was indeed feeling none too pleased, thinking that he was being mocked when she laughed at him like that. But,
“How enviable it is to have such a compelling reason for your choice of profession,” Kyouko-san continued on.
“I have long forgotten why I became a detective. To have such a clear personal motivation that you can openly profess, how I envy you. I wish I could say the same, that I pursued this line of work out of love for detective novels and admiration for famed detectives.”
“……?”
He wasn’t quite sure what she was trying to say with that. At least it looked like her words were not meant to mock yet rightly or wrongly, he didn’t consider “a love of detective novels” to constitute “a proper reason.”
“It isn’t all that unthinkable. In sports, are there not many who became professional athletes out of admiration for comic book heroes? There is no reason police officers or detectives cannot be motivated by the same.”
She declared, incontrovertibly.
Although Officer Tooasa found this logic somewhat strained, it nevertheless helped alleviate some of his stubbornly embedded insecurities, at least by a little bit. Perhaps it was because such words had come from a detective, and not any detective but a famed one.
That being said, it was unmistakably clear to him she did not say all that just to make him feel better.
“Now then, to bring our discussion back to the locked room,”
She said and rolled up her sleeve in a show of determination.
“There exists no law against becoming either a detective or a police officer. However, murder is strictly forbidden by law. Now, whether this particular crime was meticulously planned or spontaneously committed remains to be seen— these circumstances, undeniably, have resulted in a peculiar locked room. To refute this irrefutable fact, allow me to begin scrutinizing it.”
As she said, “I shall do my best to make sense of this, even if I am not of much help,” Kyouko-san thumped her rolled-up arm onto the table, the inner side exposed as if preparing for a blood draw.
Even in the dimly-lit bar, her skin glowed like fresh snow. Almost too intense for a middle-aged man.
He did not know what this was, she had him befuddled with her string of actions.
“May I borrow a pen?” Kyouko-san, nonchalantly, stretched her right hand, plucked the ballpoint pen lodged in Officer Tooasa breast pocket, and uncapped it dexterously with one hand.
“The shop opens at ten o’clock.”
She drew a line on her bare left arm near the wrist.
“The body was found at twelve noon—"
Another line higher up, near the elbow.
“The question is what transpired between these times, correct?”
“Ah, yes, yes...”
She had not rolled up her sleeve in a show of determination after all, it was to use her arm like a timeline… No, not "like," but to literally write on it. To think she would treat her radiant, snow-white skin as a notebook was almost sacrilegious. She could have asked for paper or scribbled on a napkin. Tooasa had a notebook on him, for that matter.
Perhaps it was because of her absolute obligation to confidentiality that she wrote confidential matters on her body of all things, so she would have to scrub it off later, as part of her information management regimen.
“All in all, officer, begin by ascertaining all the eyewitness testimonies and security footage. Some statements might contain misunderstandings or lies, but for the time being, let us presume everything to be true.”
“Misinterpretations or misunderstandings, I get that, but in what instances do you mean someone was lying, Kyouko-san? Does it imply that the culprit is among those we’ve already questioned?”
“I’m not here to deduce, that's not my job this time. The murderer could be amongst them, or not. But people, even innocent ones, sometimes perjure.”
“Not the culprit yet lying in testimony… Maybe they know the criminal and want to protect him? Or at the least don’t want to give active testimony. That what you mean?”
All he could do was make subtle inquiries and gauge her reaction, as Kyouko-san refused to cross the line between detective and advisor.
“And then there are those who simply prefer to stay clear of troublesome matters. After all, this matter concerns itself around murder. It’s common sense to avoid incurring a killer’s ire by not testifying.”
“Yes…”
The customers who had left the store as soon as the body was discovered likely fall into that category. Compared to the gawkers who photographed the corpse with their smartphones, who’s the Good Samaritan here?
“Some may deny seeing something they saw or claim they saw something they did not. Factor in all possibilities and evaluate them. As the Little Prince said, ‘What is essential is invisible to the eye,’ but what is visible to the eye is equally essential— who saw what? Let's unravel these testimonies.”
“What is visible is equally essential… hm?”
Her words, as obvious as they may seem, carried a depth when said so lightly.
“If we believe every testimony yet the conclusion seems awry, it must mean somebody lied.”
This is good old reverse proof, said she.
Using “trust” to sniff out lies… like a twisted mind game, as always. Not something to be carried out with such a smile.
“Are some lying— or has one deceived everybody?”
“……”
Maybe all she was doing was motioning through possibilities one by one, but the idea of someone hoodwinking them all sounded remote to him. And if such a deception could be pulled off under such circumstances— fooling every customer in the store, coaxing them into false testimony— wouldn’t this be a feat worthy of a criminal mastermind?
There’s a detective; there’s a locked room.
But no master criminal— we’re in reality here.
“Yes. Never in my forgetful detective career have I met a criminal capable of such elaborate deception. Or perhaps my memory fails me again.”
With the punchline inserted, Kyouko-san began verifying the facts.
“The victim, Yanei-san, entered the boutique at eleven that morning. We have an eyewitness, and the CCTV camera captured her walking through the entrance.”
Whilst speaking Kyouko-san wrote on her arm the overview of the murder case— ‘Yanei arrived’ between the wrist and elbow. Written on the soft flesh, yet still in immaculate handwriting.
“Once inside, she browsed the shop and selected several items of clothing before entering the fitting room. Multiple eyewitnesses observed her movements. With an outfit that eye-catching, she must have been hard to miss.”
She had not seen the body herself, but Officer Tooasa’s first impression suggested “eye-catching” was an understatement. To be matter-of-fact, “flamboyant” was more like it. He wondered if it only appeared too fashionable to him because he had no sense for such things. But if she had described it so, his impression had to be apt.
“Interestingly she was wearing Nashorn clothes from head to foot.”
“People did mention she was a regular…”
Her outfit had looked different from the clothes Kyouko-san had selected earlier. A difference in style, perhaps?
“Yanei-san entered the fitting room and never came out again. She remained hidden inside until her body was discovered. No screams or quarrels were overheard.”
“So it seems.”
A wooden blunt instrument striking a head would barely resonate amidst the boutique’s ambient music; faintly audible, but nobody would suspect it as the sound of murder.
Had there been people in adjacent fitting rooms, that’d be another story. But, there were no witnesses of that sort— if there were, by the time the body was discovered they had probably already left the store. Or, they didn’t want to get involved and chose to stay mum— regardless, for now we assume all testimonies are true.
Under the premise of “nobody lied.”
“Naturally,” Kyouko-san underlined this point, her scribbled arm now resembling hieroglyphics.
“Nor was the culprit seen making their escape.”
From another point of view, that’s what was so incredible.
Killing in broad daylight— in a store with eyewitnesses and security cameras, or in a cramped fitting room, it was all a bit fa fetched for just anybody to attempt, but you couldn’t say there was absolutely nobody who would.
Not everybody consistently sticks to the best solution. Maybe due to momentary impulse or misconception, they make irrational and careless blunders like this. Piling up such colossal errors and still successfully escaping— was utterly irrational.
Furthermore, not only did anybody fail to see the culprit fleeing afterward, nobody reported seeing them enter the fitting room beforehand.
“Correct. The culprit might have been hiding inside all along, biding their time.”
She said so but clearly not in earnest— who would be such an oblivious victim to walk into a fitting room where somebody lay in wait? And there wasn’t even any place to hide; wherever they were hidden would have been plainly visible.
“If the fitting rooms didn’t extend to the ceiling, the culprit could have climbed over the walls from one to another or escaped through the top somehow.”
Nashorn’s fitting rooms did have partitions all the way to the ceiling. Officer Tooasa dismissed that theory at once. Although not complex in construction— they could be dismantled with some tools if one is so willing, this however would draw more attention than naturally opening the curtain. Slipping in and out quietly when nobody was looking sounded more believable.
“It is very much a blind spot, since CCTV cameras cannot be pointed at the dressing rooms. No cameras are installed on the nearby ceilings either.”
The area relied solely on human observation— as such, it might not be impossible.
All you have to do is confirm nobody will see you and then sneak in the fitting room. But even so, the victim was still in there changing clothes when she was bludgeoned with a hanger— she would have screamed the moment the curtain was pulled back. Putting the issue of her screaming aside for a moment and focusing on the 'not being seen' point alone, there might still be a chance for intrusion.

Effective Strategies for Managing and Paying Your Mobile Phone Bill
A mobile phone is an essential tool in modern life, connecting us to work, family, and information. However, with this convenience comes the recurring monthly expense of a phone bill. For many, managing this bill can be a source of stress, especially when unexpected charges appear or financial circumstances change. Learning how to effectively manage and pay your mobile bill not only prevents late fees and service interruptions but also empowers you to take control of your finances and potentially save a significant amount of money over time. Developing good habits around this single expense can create a positive ripple effect across your entire budget. The key is to be proactive, informed, and strategic in your approach. By understanding your bill, exploring cost-saving opportunities, and utilizing modern tools, you can turn your phone bill from a monthly headache into a manageable part of your financial plan.
Decoding Your Monthly Mobile Bill
The first step toward managing your phone bill is understanding it. Mobile service statements can often be confusing, filled with various line items, taxes, and fees. Take the time to sit down and read through your bill line by line. You will typically find charges for your main plan, which covers data, talk, and text allowances. There might also be separate charges for device financing, insurance, or extra services like international calling or a mobile hotspot. Pay close attention to the taxes and surcharges section, which includes government-mandated fees and carrier-imposed charges. An actionable tip is to download and save your bills each month. This creates a record you can reference to track your usage patterns and spot any unusual increases or billing errors. If you see a charge you do not recognize, contact your provider immediately for clarification.
Strategies to Lower Your Phone Bill
Once you understand your bill, you can start looking for ways to reduce your costs. Many people pay for more data than they actually use. Check your usage history over the past few months to see if you can switch to a lower-tier plan. You can also make a conscious effort to connect to Wi-Fi at home, work, and in public places to minimize cellular data consumption. Another effective strategy is to regularly compare your current plan with offers from other carriers. The mobile industry is highly competitive, and providers frequently update their plans and promotions. Exploring different options, including those from smaller carriers or Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), can lead to substantial savings. Providers such as boost mobile offer a variety of prepaid plans that can provide more control over your spending without locking you into a long-term contract. Always ask your current provider if they can match a competitor's offer before making a switch.
Check for Available Discounts
Many mobile carriers offer discounts that you might not even be aware of. These can include savings for specific professions, such as teachers, first responders, or military personnel. Some companies have corporate partnerships with carriers that provide their employees with a percentage off their monthly bill. Students and seniors may also be eligible for special rates. The only way to know for sure is to ask. Visit your provider’s website or call their customer service line and inquire about any available discounts you might qualify for. A few minutes of research could lead to consistent monthly savings.
Automate Payments to Avoid Late Fees
One of the easiest ways to hurt your budget is by incurring late fees. Forgetting to pay your phone bill by the due date can result in extra charges and, in some cases, even service suspension. Setting up automatic payments is a simple and effective way to ensure your bill is always paid on time. Most carriers allow you to link a bank account or credit card for autopay, and some even offer a small discount for enrolling. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), setting up automatic payments can be a great way to manage your bills, but it is important to ensure you have enough funds in your account to cover the payment on the scheduled date. Set a calendar reminder a few days before the payment is due to double-check your account balance and avoid overdraft fees.
What to Do if You Cannot Pay Your Bill
Life happens, and sometimes you may find yourself unable to pay your phone bill on time. If you are facing financial hardship, the worst thing you can do is ignore the problem. Be proactive and contact your mobile provider as soon as you know you will have trouble paying. Many companies are willing to work with customers by offering a payment extension or setting up a temporary payment arrangement. Explain your situation honestly and ask about your options. Ignoring the bill will only lead to late fees, potential service disconnection, and possible negative impacts on your credit history. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) provides resources on consumer rights and what to do when you have billing issues, which can be a helpful guide. Communication is key to finding a solution that works for both you and your provider.
Consider Financial Wellness Tools
If managing bills feels overwhelming, consider using a financial wellness app to get a better handle on your expenses. Some apps help you budget, track spending, and manage recurring payments from one central place. For those moments when your paycheck does not quite line up with your bill due dates, an app like Gerald can offer a lifeline. Gerald is a unique financial app that provides fee-free cash advances and Buy Now, Pay Later options. You can get an instant cash advance to cover your phone bill without worrying about interest, transfer fees, or late penalties. By first using a BNPL advance for a purchase in the Gerald store, you unlock the ability to get a cash advance transfer with zero fees. This can be an invaluable tool for managing cash flow and ensuring essential bills are paid on time without the high costs associated with traditional short-term credit options.
