It’s time for some myth-busting: The “C” in “vitamin C” does not stand for “citrus,” though the nutrient is famously abundant in citrus fruits. Science began exploring the unique capabilities of vitamins around 100 years ago and named the essential compounds by highlighting their attributes and order of discovery. 
In 1920, Polish biochemist Casimir Funk coined the term “vitamin,” derived from the Latin word for life (vita) and “amine,” a nitrogen-rich compound. Before this coinage, in the 1890s, a compound was identified that prevented beriberi, a disease that commonly afflicted sailors. Due to this usage, it was eventually named vitamin B. Next up in 1918, vitamin A was identified as “fat-soluble A” by nutrition scientist Elmer McCullum. While conducting food experiments, he found an “accessory” substance in some fats, choosing “A” as its epithet. The name was changed to “vitamin A” in 1920 with the coining of Funk’s “vitamin.” Vitamins A and B established an alphabetic naming convention with 
vitamins C, D, and E following suit alphabetically and in order of discovery. In 1929, Danish scientist Carl Peter Henrik Dam identified a new compound that, if the standard were followed, should have been named “vitamin F.” However, Dam chose “vitamin K” in reference to the Danish word blodkoagulation (blood coagulation), emphasizing the vitamin’s role in this process.
Later, researchers identified various forms of vitamins within the letter categorizations. They identified and numbered them during the next few decades, beginning with the earliest discovery, vitamin B1, or thiamine, named after the Greek word for sulfur, theion. By the 1930s and 1940s, 13 essential vitamins — A, C, D, E, K, and the eight B vitamins — had been identified and named. This includes vitamin B7 or biotin, which comes from the Greek biotos, meaning “life,” and vitamin B9 or folic acid, which derives from the Latin folium, meaning “a leaf,” a nod to its abundance in green, leafy vegetables.

Hot Apple Band’s long-awaited debut album, So Long, Noodle House is a collection of 11 tracks recorded between 2019-2022, mostly at Jack Kinder’s home studio in Strathfield, Sydney. Once the pandemic hit, Jack and Lewis Mosley had ample time to give birth to the songs, allowing for this body of work so it could become all that it deserved to be. The resulting album will no doubt please long-time fans, with a number of songs being staples from the band’s live repertoire. So Long, Noodle House is symbolic sign-off on the band’s past and an exciting peek into what’s to come.
The record covers broad ground, from 70s imbued alt-country and catchy Beatles-era pop, through to emotive folk and soft rock. Coming-of-age themes run deep in the album, as Jack Kinder's lyrics touch on life changes, friendship, shitty jobs and of course, love. With Kinder's smooth vocals, clever arrangements and gorgeous vintage production, and Lewis Mosley’s unforgettable lead guitar, slide and keyboard performance, Hot Apple Band’s debut has the same charm of some of the best records from the early 1970s, radiating George Harrison, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Harry Nilsson and Fanny in a similar style to modern counterparts such as Drugdealer, Weyes Blood, Daniel Romano and The Lemon Twigs....~
Along with Bures Band, the best new export out of the Aussie shores has been Hot Apple Band. The band’s debut, So Long Noodle House, is set for release in a couple of weeks and they’re slipping out one more single before the full package hits the shelves. Taking a decidedly looser approach than the rest of the album, “Not Today” ditches the album’s more refined streak of country rock for something more ragged and weathered. “Not Today” rocks the listener with a hammock-bound ease. There’s still twang in the tank, but this is for the late afternoon drifters. An unlikely single, but all part of the charm of So Long’s sway. The new album is out November 24th from Third Eye Stimuli and Earth Libraries....~
So Long Noodle House has been holding court on the speakers around here for the past few months, as you may well have noticed. Along with The Bures Band, the duo serves up one of the best Aussie platters of the year, and like their contemporaries they share an affinity for the more sun-splashed vistas of the ‘70s. The two bands share a knack for West Coast comfort, though Hot Apple Band also have an Apple Records in ‘em, streak waxed to a walnut sheen and pumping out pop that skirts the Harrison/Badfinger valley with amiable ease. Throw in a few nods tipping towards the works of Nilsson, Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood and those of you with Drugdealer and Lemon Twigs LPs on the shelf ought to perk up and pay attention.
Jack Kinder and Lewis Mosley prove a formidable songwriting pair, turning coming of age yearning with a soft spot for sunshine harmonies into a golden-hued debut. The record is soaked in sunburnt guitar, with Mosley’s leads often leaving a few scorch marks on the soul as they pass on by, but more often than not the record lounges in an afternoon warmth. Its the attention to detail and atmosphere that makes So Long Noodle House stick to the ribs. Kinder’s production hews to vintage forms, leaving a bit of a Kodachrome veneer on the album — faded and folded in just the right spots. While the record was undoubtedly meticulously constructed the band makes it feel effortless, weaving power pop, folk, country saunter, and AOR touches into a dazzling tapestry. Its an ambitious debut, and hopefully just the beginning from the songwriting pair.....~

bro. U seem smart how tf do I even start treating me/cf in myself idk where to even look :(
hey sorry i’m so late getting back to this i’ve been exhausted lol. and wanted to give you a comprehensive response. The things I find are mostly from research articles. what sucks is because the condition isn’t fully understood there are a lot of relevant articles that use different names- cfs/me, post-viral fatigue syndrome (pvfs), long covid, post acute sequelae of SARS—CoV-2. I try to keep up to date and search these terms on pubmed every now and then. Medscape is a good app to quickly see which drugs are being used in clinical trials but i think it might be restricted to med students/ researchers/ clinicians but theres probably some way around that.
if you cbf with all that and just want recommendations: the worst csf/me symptoms for me are definitely neurocognitive and the biggest helper has been modafinil followed by dexamphetamine. i highly recommend some kind of stimulants if you can get your hands on them. other drugs and supplements that have shown high efficacy in studies:
coenzyme q10: i’ve been taking high doses (~900mg; up to 3000mg is recommended for disorders of mitochondrial dysfunction) and I do notice some physical improvement.
creatine monohydrate: 3-5g a day (may take several months to see effects however it’s cheap)
low dose naltrexone- lots of new interesting studies coming out about this. naltrexone is an opioid receptor antagonist usually prescribed to alcoholics and opioid addicts but also acts as an immunomodulatory agent at low doses. I started 2mg/day as of two days ago.
Zinc- i recommend zinc picolinate for higher bioavailability
B group vitamins- particularly B6, B9 and B12. There are relatively common mutations at the MTHFR gene (that may also contribute to cfs/me) that cause difficulty in metabolising B12 and B9- if you know your MTHFR genotype or experience weird side effects from B vitamins like insomnia or anxiety and paranoia, look into methylated forms (methylcobalamin and 5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid).

Our story starts back to his first day in new home that his father bought for him. His father now argues with Ot about his behavior in front of new house. Ot's father stood in front of their new house, his arms folded across his chest, a stern look on his face. Ot stood before him, his eyes downcast, feeling a mix of anger and shame.
"You think I'm going to let you ruin your life like you did at your old school?"
 his father said, his voice low and steady. Ot looked up at his father, his fists clenched at his sides. He didn't want to be here, in this new place, away from his friends and the life he knew. But he also didn't want to disappoint his father again.
"I won't mess up again,"
Ot said, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I'll do better here."
As Ot's father left, Mote came to introduce himself and offer his services as Ot's personal assistant. Mote was same size, as me build to Ot, his face also got quite similar shape, Mote just a bit skinny and wear glasses, but he seemed eager to please Ot. Ot still angry on his father. He ignored Mote and went inside the house, slamming the door shut behind him.
As he wandered through the empty halls of his new home, Ot felt a sense of loneliness and isolation. He missed his old friends and the familiar surroundings of Bangkok. He didn't want to be in this new place, but he knew he had to make the best of it. His father put it clear, If new school report anything wrong with Ot's behavior. He will got kick out form family without any support. Mote followed Ot inside the house and tried to make small talk, but Ot was not in the mood for it. As he walked into his room, he saw a computer on the desk and immediately sat down to play games. Mote stood by the door, watching him silently.
 Ot woke up feeling groggy and tired from staying up all night playing games. He knew he had to attend school, but the thought of sitting in a classroom all day made him want to crawl back into bed. Mote was waiting for him in the kitchen, preparing Ot's breakfast and pack his bag for school. Ot dress in Student uniform take a seat and start his breakfast. He sees Mote standing wait to service him. Then Ot got an idea.
"Hay, Mot, follow me!"
 Then he drags Mote hands to his room. Mote followed Ot into his room, curious about what he wanted. Ot sat down at the computer and turned it on.
"Strip yourself!"
Ot order Mote looked at Ot, confused and hesitant.

 his frustration boiling over. Mote hesitated for a moment before slowly starting to remove his clothes. He took off his shoes, then his socks, and then his pants. Ot watched as Mot's underwear was revealed, a plain white pair that looked slightly worn and discolored.
"Your underwear also"
 Ot continues, while he also strips himself form student's uniform. Mote felt embarrassed and uncomfortable as he stripped down to his underwear, feeling exposed in front of Ot.  He tried to avoid looking at him as he took off his shirt and pants, but he couldn't help staring at Ot's body, which was now completely bare. Then Ot thrown his student uniform, sock, even his underwear to Mot, then order
"Dress it!"
 Mote starts to dress in Ot's uniform, also Ot's yellow spandex brief. As Mote dressed, he could feel the weight of the uniform on his body, and he winced at the tight fit. But he knew he had to look professional, so he tried to make the best of it. As he was getting dressed, Ot looked at him and said,

Mote blushed and nodded, trying to hide his embarrassment. Ot's walking around Mote to check that Mote dress is fine.  As Ot finished checking on Mot's uniform.
"Ok then take this mask"
Ot sent his face mask to Mote, after covid-19 to wear face mask all day is just new normal. Mote took the face mask and put it on, feeling even more uncomfortable in the uniform and mask. Ot then grabbed his bag give it to Mote and open the door.
"Let's go, you're going to be late," he said,
He waves his hand sent Mote out of his room. Then back to his computer, still naked.  As Mote left the room, he felt a mix of emotions. He was grateful to Ot for giving him the chance to attend school and learn, but he also felt humiliated by the whole experience of stripping down to his underwear and wearing someone else's uniform. He walked down the street to the school, feeling exposed and out of place. As Mote walked towards the school in Ot's uniform, he couldn't help but notice the stares and whispers from other students passing by. He felt like a complete imposter, like he didn't belong there at all. The uniform was a tight fit, and he could feel every seam and stitch on his skin. Mote finally arrived at the school, feeling nervous and self-conscious in Ot's uniform. He walked into his first class, and all eyes turned towards him. The teacher looked at him suspiciously, but Mote tried to ignore it and took a seat. He could feel the sweat dripping down his back as he tried to focus on the lesson. But he couldn't help thinking about Ot and his reaction to his outfit. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that it was all about Ot's feelings towards him.
As the day went on, Mote began to get more comfortable in the uniform. He started to get used to the tightness of the shirt and pants, and the weight of the boots on his feet. He picked them up and examined them closely, Mote's clothes are worn out and ragged, a stark contrast to Ot's crisp uniform. He chuckled to himself, thinking about how he had made Mote wear his uniform to school. But as he looked closer at Mote's clothes, he picks up Mote's brief, it's a plain white pair that looked slightly worn and discolored. At first, he feels disgusting, he never touches any other male's underwear before. He almost to thrown it to a bin. But then he notices a smell. It wasn't a pleasant smell, but it makes him feel... it's hard to explain. Ot felt a strange mix of curiosity and disgust as he smelled the underwear. He couldn't quite put his finger on what it was about the smell that intrigued him, but he found himself drawn to it nonetheless. He held the underwear up to his nose and breathed in deeply, trying to analyze the scent. As Ot continued to smell the underwear, his member is hardened. But he also knew that it was his responsibility as Ot's servant to make sure he followed his father's orders. Mote hesitated for a moment before finally mustering up the courage to ask.
"Tomorrow, you got ROTC training class. Are you still want me to go in your place?"
Ot looked at Mot, thinking about how he had been avoiding school all day and didn't feel like attending the next day either. He sighed and nodded his head,
"Fine. You will go in my place for tomorrow's ROTC training. Actually, as long as it need."
 The next morning, Mote woke up early to prepare a breakfast. He goes wake Ot up. Ot wakes up in faint. He walks to wardrobe and bring his ROTC uniform and equipment, going to give it to Mote.

Ot said and wait for Mote to strip himself Mote hesitated for a moment before realizing what Ot meant. He quickly took off his clothes and stood there, feeling exposed and vulnerable. "Put this on,"

Rigel: Orion's Brightest Star

Rigel is a star you can easily spot in the night sky. It is the brightest star in the constellation Orion (the hunter) and the seventh brightest star in the night sky. But did you know that Rigel is not just one star but a system of four stars? And that is a blue supergiant, one of the most massive and luminous stars in our galaxy? I will be focusing on Rigel and its companions in this post.
What is Rigel?

What are Rigel’s Companions?
Rigel is not alone in its orbit around the center mass of the system. It has three companions: Rigel Ba, Rigel Bb, and Rigel C. These are all main-sequence stars, which means they still burn hydrogen in their cores. They are also blue-white, with spectral types of B9 V. They have similar masses and radii, ranging from 2.94 to 3.84 times that of the Sun and from 2.5 to 3 times that of the Sun respectively.
Rigel Ba and Rigel Bb form a close pair that orbits each other every 9.86 days. They are so close that they cannot be seen separately, even with powerful telescopes. They are called a spectroscopic binary because their orbital motion can be detected by measuring the Doppler shifts in their spectral lines.

Rigel A and Rigel Bc form an even wider pair that orbits each other every 24,000 years. This pair can be seen with binoculars or small telescopes under good conditions.
There is also a fifth star that may be part of the system, but it is not confirmed yet. It is a faint red dwarf star of magnitude 15.3 that lies about 220 arcseconds* away from Rigel A. 
*(Arcseconds, also known as arc-seconds or arc seconds, are a unit of angular measurement used in various fields, including astronomy, geodesy, and navigation. They are a subdivision of an arcminute, a unit of angular measurement equal to 1/60th of a degree.)
How Did Rigel Form and Evolve?

Rigel started as a massive main sequence star that burned the hydrogen in its core very quickly. As the hydrogen was depleted, the star began to contract and heat up, while its outer layers expanded and cooled down. As a result, Rigel became a supergiant star.
Rigel will continue to fuse heavier elements until it reaches iron, which cannot release any more energy by fusion. (Stars undergo fusion reactions in their cores, where lighter elements combine to form heavier elements, releasing energy in the process of fusion. A fusion process continues until the core contains predominantly iron. At this point, the process of fusing iron requires more energy than it releases, slowing down. This process poses a problem because fusion reactions provide the outward pressure that counteracts the inward pull of gravity, supporting the star against collapse. Without the energy generated by fusion, the star loses its means of support and can eventually collapse under its gravity.) At this point, Rigel will collapse and explode into a supernova. But this won’t happen for another million years or so.
The supernova explosion will destroy most of Rigel’s mass and eject it into space as gas and dust. The training core will either become either a neutron star or a black hole, depending on how massive it is.
The fate of Rigel's companions will depend on how close they are to Rigel when it explodes. If they are too close, they will be destroyed or disrupted by the shock wave and radiation from the supernova. If they are far enough, they will survive but may be affected by the change in gravity and radiation from the remnant.
Rigel is important for several reasons. First, it is a prominent star that helps us identify the constellation of Orion and find other stars in the sky. Second, it is a bright and nearby example of a supergiant star, which helps us understand the evolution and fate of massive stars. Third, it is a complex star that challenges our ability to observe and measure its components and interactions. Fourth, it is a potential supernova progenitor that may explode in the near future (in astronomical terms, of course) and provide us with a spectacular show and valuable data.
Rigel is also important for cultural reasons. It has been known and named by many civilizations throughout history, and it has been associated with various myths and legends. In ancient China, Rigel was called Shang Zuo, meaning "the left-hand seat of the king," and it was part of the Three Stars asterism that represented the emperor's throne. In Arabic, Rigel was called Rijl al-Jawza', meaning "the foot of the central one," referring to Orion as a giant. In modern times, Rigel has been featured in many works of science fiction and fantasy, such as Star Trek, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and The Chronicles of Narnia.

i wanted to put this in the comments where the general iron-deficiency anemia discussion was happening but it got too long :^(
im no doctor but have/had chronic anemia. it’s practically impossible to fix depleted intracellular iron reserves using diet alone (ferritin on your blood test). it serves as a buffer so you don’t get anemic whenever your diet changes or you lose blood. you should also make sure the anemia is indeed caused by a lack of iron and not poor absorption - celiac disease and low vitamin b9 or b12 levels can hinder it. it’s a good idea to see a doctor for a blood test and supplement plan but if you can’t and the symptoms are well noticeable look for an IRON supplement (the ‘female health’ type stuff is mostly suitable for maintaining health if you are prone to anemia) that has BOTH folic acid (vit B9) AND iron (II) fumarate or iron (II) sulfate (some stuff only has b vitamins and negligible amounts of iron. your daily dose should well exceed 100% of normal intake to serve effectively). read the instructions, doses can vary quite dramatically so pick something in the middle, take pills on empty stomach, ideally with something that has vitamin c (helps absorption) and don’t drink (non-herbal) tea, coffee or milk for at least half an hour before and after. make sure u know the side effects so you can adjust the dose. at the same time you can indeed raise your hemoglobin levels and feel better day to day with better diet. the iron from animal-based foods (heme iron or Fe2+ with organic compound, which is the form that iron occurs in in our bodies) is absorbed much better than that in plant-based foods (non-heme Fe3+) — approx. 25-30% and 10% absorption rates respectively. the plants have a lot of vit c and folic acid though so aim for a balanced diet. ideally: [red meat, offal (eg chicken livers and hearts are cheap, delicious and quick to cook), seafood (mussels especially), eggs] + [nuts, seeds, dark greens (spinach, herbs, broccoli, etc), legumes, beets, buckwheat] + [vitamin c rich foods - fruits and vegetables]. ALSO cooking with cast iron hardware is said to help but i haven’t tried it myself. also, a quarter of a 100g bar of dark chocolate contains around 20% of the recommended daily iron intake ♥️
