ruh roh NOW ITS RUPERTS TURN TO DO THE TRAUMATIZING i am SO curious how this will effect Joe hes going to be so distraught that one of his flaplings wants to do him harm like this either that or he'll just treat it like a kid having a tantrum and put him in time out- i dont think itll do much to damage him tho(that prob wont stop Rupert from trying at least)
Tumblr media
Rupert didn't hear the patrol team screaming for him to stop, or the admins screaming for Joe to look out. He grabbed that pickaxe and went for it. Unfortunately for him, Joe caught him before he could land a single blow.
Joe effortlessly lifted him up to eye level, and Rupert was stunned into silence. After a brief staredown, Rupert could swear he saw a flash of discomfort in Joe's gaze before the cowboy's expression hardened and he was chastised like a toddler who started drawing on the walls with sharpie.
So yeah, a little bit of both actually! Mostly he just treats the murder attempt as Rupert acting out, even asking if this is something the staff leaders taught him to do. But a part of Joe is heartbroken by this. He still remembers Rupert shouting about hating him, and despite trying to play it off, it does still bother him a lot.
Rupert clearly hating him is one of the few things Joe feels bad about. Unfortunately he'd never admit that killing the Fossildig CEO was entirely his fault and nothing will get better between him and Rupert unless he admits he was wrong (and even then Rupert will never forgive him).

some quick queer fossil fighters headcanons
-Several vivosaurs have been treated throughout the ages as queer icons. Generally, dromaeosauridae, particularly Dilopho, Breme, and Nychus, are seen as representative of all forms of queerness. Moreover, Aopteryx, Proto, and Guam, who are gifted with the ability to transform into yet more glorious iterations of themselves, are commonly used in trans iconography. Shanshan tends to be used as a transmasc icon solely, while Guam is usually used for transfem iconography. Aopteryx is used dually as a generalised trans icon and as a representation of nonbinary Fossil Fighters. Also; Sinopteryx is often incorporated into lesbian iconography.
-Most assume that Holt, for his love of V-raptor, would be gay. They're not wrong that he's queer, but his specific brand of queerness is asexuality.
-Dinaurians have more complex chromosomes than humans, so have their own approach to classifying both sex and gender. While there exist both female and male Dinaurian phenotypes, these phenotypes don't always match with their BC/CC chromosome distributions—environmental influence plays a far greater part in Dinaurian than human puberty, so BC males and females both exist, as do CC males and females, and BC and CC intersex Dinaurians. While Dinaurian standards of masculinity and femininity exist, they present more guidelines than cultural imperatives—as such, many Dinaurians fit into neither box socially or biologically, and this is broadly considered normative. Human ideas of straightness, gayness, and bisexuality thus don't always translate well into Dinaurian culture, as the idea of inherently being attracted to especially stringent expressions of certain chromosomal phenotypes just doesn't compute when those phenotypes aren't straightforward. Dinaurians might mention preferring masculinity or femininity somewhat if asked about their sexualities, but are more likely to emphasise personality, intellect, or specific nondimorphic physical characteristics. That is, most dinaurians are sapiosexual and pansexual to some degree, but pansexuality doesn't tend to entirely translate as a cultural construct.
-Near the Hare Club, Cranial Isle has a small hangout room labelled 'the Aopteryx Club'. It's a de facto space for trans Fossil Fighters to meet up and trade anecdotes, and Terry insists on setting aside a portion of the Fighter Station housekeeping budget to make sure the Aopteryx Club is furnished as well as possible.
-Terry is gay, and Cole is a bisexual who long assumed himself to be the sole queer man worth his own attention. The two attended highschool together, and slowly, ever so slowly, have been seen becoming more and more affectionate with each other in public.
-Lola is nonbinary and aroace, but doesn't tend to mention her gender identity unless asked. She's seldom felt quite comfortable with they/them pronouns, but considers herself human before she considers herself in any way female. Though she's ace, she absolutely adores gossiping about others' love lives, and has made every effort possible to nudge Cole closer to Terry.
-Lester is nonbinary and transmasc (he/they pronouns). He and Lola spend a great deal of time making music after hours at the Aopteryx club.
-Pauleen and Dina are lesbian. Oh so very lesbian. Dina is usually entirely oblivious to any male expressions of attraction towards her. Pauleen is not oblivious when men adore her, but tends to be upfront about seldom returning feelings.
-Rupert and Dino are gay. Oh so very gay. From a marketing perspective, Rupert's father didn't disapprove of his son's sexuality—rather, he despised his son's choice in partner, and feared that Rupert and Dino's public affection for each other would drive away potential clients for FossilDig. Rupert managed to allay most of his father's worries by pointing out that FossilDig could likely buy into rainbow capitalism more now, but look less conspicuous doing so. Nevertheless, Rupert's father remained too stuffy to follow through on such a business venture, and pride month sales remain anodyne. Joe Wildwest, meanwhile, not only dotes on his son, but has been absolutely vocal about LGBT rights since he noticed that Dino was gay. 'Noticed', rather than 'was told', since Dino never really came out—he just happened to have a first crush on a male, rather than female, classmate, and the family rolled with it from there.
-In the Patrol Team, Todd is the token straight on thin ice.
-P. A. Leon is gloriously and gorgeously aroace. Though she dated as a young woman, she came to realise she better enjoyed time spent alone with her Kraftwerk and Gary Numan records than time spent together with partners. Her team comprises solely dromaesauridae, and as such, long before she used the term 'asexual' on radio, many celebrated her apparent queerness.
-Diggins and Beth are both trans, and Diggins was the first person to popularise Aopteryx as a symbol of transness.
-Joe describes himself as straight, but also swoons over 70s & 80s rockstars. He's as straight as a 70s rockstar can be—that is, functionally bicurious at minimum. An, uh, 'extremely devoted ally'.
-Though Stryker gives extremely little away to the press, he's always been openly gay. It's not something he's ever wished to conceal; as such, he's the first openly queer head of the Wardens.
-Dahlia and Penny are probably the most prominent resident sapphic couple at INTERFOL.

Dryosaurus altus was a Jurassic plant eater that could be found in the forests and fern prairies of North America 150 million years ago. As a small dinosaur, measuring about 10 feet long, this dinosaur’s best defense against predators was its speed.

FOSSIL FIGHTERS EARLY MORNING HEADCANONS PART 6 MY TORMENT IS EVERLASTING :D
Radox is one of the worst pet Vivosaurs. It's not their fault, they're rather social! It's just that between their blades and their tendency to spawn copies of themselves when stressed, they can be... destructive.
Bulgon and Hibigon are cute, yes, but they are also incredibly destructive. They like fighting. They are also good at fighting. They wouldn't be good pet vivosaurs even if getting your hands on them was easy.
FossilDig is the second most popular company for Fossil Fighters-related products, second to, of course, the Richmond Foundation.
The Richmond Foundation was originally a more general company known best for Mr. Richmond being an actually decent person.
Mr. Richmond could be a billionaire but instead he decided to be a good person. He is still a multi-millionaire, but he uses that money for good.
Vivosaur Island, and more specifically Vivosaur Town was... kind of an accident.
Richmond did not expect how big Fossil Fighting would be.
And, by extension, as the sole provider of Fossil Fighting gear (at the time), how much money he'd get.
He was even a billionaire for a few days, to his utter horror.
Vivosaur town was largely an effort to put all that money into something productive.
And also to keep people from Doing A Colonialism by encroaching on Digadig land
When Fossil Fighting first became big, he expected to have to go apologize to the Digadigs and promise to steer people away as much as he could.
Instead they just pointed him to an area to the southeast that had no real cultural significance to them on which he could build a city.
Part of Nevada and Nick Nack's jobs is to work with the Digadig tribe to make sure no artifacts are unknowingly stolen. Any artifacts they find are sent through the Digadig tribe for permission before they can go to museums or Nick Nack's collection.
Rivet Ravine is also an area that has very little cultural importance to the Digadig tribe. Handy, since there are so many fossils there.
Most other areas hold at least some significance to the Digadigs, even if that significance was 'DO NOT GO HERE' in the case of Parchment Desert.
The only place that they really mind being encroached on is the deep parts of Knotwood Forest. And by that I mean significantly deeper than the Digadigamid.
Richmond was more than happy to oblige.
The Digadigs are actually remnants of the people Zongazonga ruled over.
Their ancestors knew it was unlikely that enough people would be able to survive the battle against Zongazonga for civilization to rebuild.
So while the hero was battling Zongazonga, the rest of the ancient Caliosteans fled, to either find and warn inhabited lands or settle in uninhabited ones.
Only a few of the fleets survived the storm.
One fleet, by a stroke of luck found an island that was hidden from the world by ancient technology.
This only happened thrice in total before the cloaking field was disabled - the other times being Woolbeard and the boat a younger Dr. Diggins and Mr. Richmond were on.
That first fleet, though, became the Digadigs. They hoped to record the horrors of Caliosteo as a warning. With them they carried two fossils - the skull of a T-Rex and the skull of an Apatosaurus - that they could resurrect if the worst should happen.
When nothing did, they thought they had found peace.
Then came the war between the mountains and sea.
While they were searching for a way to escape this, they came across the wrecked Dinaurian ship.
They found a holotape in it, though they didn't understand much of what was depicted, not knowing the language and all.
This is why one of the carvings that has to be made to reach the Lava Shut-Off Valve is of humanoid figures with dinosaur heads and tails riding on what are, in retrospect, obviously UFOs.
That disaster removed this group's only chance of fighting back against Zongazonga - the dinosaur skulls - and stranded them there for good.
They tried to keep the story of Caliosteo alive as a desperate warning.
Eventually, though, the memories of Caliosteo faded into myth, and were forgotten. All that remained was the fear of the giant dragons that tormented them.
Even so, the warning did, in a way, succeed. Nevada Montecarlo's notes on ancient Digidig language were what allowed Professor Scatterly to translate the Caliosteo Tablets, without which there would have been no chance against Zongazonga's return.
They were not the only fleet that survived though.
A second, much smaller fleet managed to make it to China, where they were met by an immortal sage...

We cannot get over how incredible this nodosaur fossil is. The entire snout to hip was preserved perfectly and was dug up in Alberta, Canada, in 2011. 280-Character Rebellion: Rupert’s Twitter and Instagram
Rupert opened his Twitter account when he was 13 years old. He’s said it’s his, but initially, it was really just an outlet for FossilDig to advertise itself with a human aftertouch. Rupert spent three years posting nothing personal—though his victories would be plastered across screens as bountifully as his father’s products, they would rarely be showcased in an emotional light. This was an account designed to mask the inhumanity of a corporation, rather than grant it the heart it didn’t have—hence, Rupert’s real voice was muffled by his practiced condescension and unflappable sangfroid.
But following ZZ-as-Joe’s defamation of Dina, things changed. Rupert posted the first tweet he’d ever forgone his father’s approval for, expressing his belief in Dina’s innocence and decrying the putative Joe Wildwest’s speech. Overnight, hundreds of thousands of FossilDig consumers and fighters globally were exposed to a scandal on little Caliosteo. The media went wild. #DinaIsInnocent trended on Twitter hours after the tweet’s release. Interviewers lined up to badger Rupert into explaining his position. Marcus Harrison was utterly furious—this wasn’t a political account, after all, but an advertising account. Rupert, determined to shed his status as a chattel, refused to take the tweet down. Hence, the CEO found himself at a crossroads: for if he ignored the post, the media would notice Rupert’s rebellion against his father. Denying or contradicting it could only serve likewise. Hence, in spite of his dislike for Dina, he could do naught but release an official statement supporting Dina’s innocence.
Whilst his father was distracted with the Twitter scandal, Rupert opened an official Instagram account (@RupertHarrison, as opposed to his personal account, @MapoMapusaurus) without alerting his father to the fact. Though used as a celebrity platform, it’s entirely divorced from company initiatives—having been established during the ZZ/Dina palaver, his first posts were used to showcase his finals match against Dina and then express her innocence. Additionally, he created a highlights reel of the Cup, showcasing the more personal aspects the tournament. Early uploads included photos of the boulder outside Krakanak (‘For all the hardship that taught us all to count our blessings, thank you’), of Todd with a miraculous fossil cleaned perfectly (‘You proved yourself tenacious in round 1, and you’ve only gotten more tenacious as the weeks have gone on’), of Joanie and Princess Pooch at the end of Round 3 (‘We certainly came home surprised a few weeks later... power to you two’), and of his embrace with Dino at the end of the semis (no captions, just raw emotion). Additionally, he’d regram Pauleen’s posts in bulk, and put out the odd political statement. By the end of the week, he’d garnered 5000 followers; in a month, that number had tripled, and his father had caught wind of the whole affair. Though Marcus Harrison was horrified, there was nothing he could do—to this day, he ignores the account as much as possible.
Rupert continues to post frequently to this day, uploading new content near-daily. Amongst other things, he’s used the account to clarify his relationship with Dino (dating), explain that he got possessed by ZZ (and reassure the general populace that for all the health problems that came with such, he’s alright, if immunocompromised), and spam the great unwashed with aesthetic pictures of Mapo. More recently, after the sobering headline that he’d been admitted to the ICU for COVID-19, he uploaded a photo of himself in Icegrip Plateau with the following caption: ‘I live, I thrive’. However pale and haggard he appeared, fans went wild with relief and joy.
