Opinion on Ward?

DUDEEEE

Ward is just so. He's so complicated and extremely well written, I love the way they do him

With that being said, I also hate his guts

But to go more in depth, I think I can understand a lot of his motivations. He was hardly raised in a good household, his family was genuinely awful, so I do get how he saw Garrett as a father figure. As he says himself, he was never loyal to HYDRA, just Garrett. I also think that, had he not known what he was getting into, I could have more sympathy for him

He was very much groomed, but the way Ward stans often put it is that he had no idea and that he was full on brainwashed, which is not true. Ward knew what HYDRA was, if he didn't at the start he certainly did later on, and he chose to stay with them. Keep in mind that not once was Ward threatened if he left HYDRA-- the only person they could hurt was himself bc he hated his family, and he didn't care about what happened to him. He was perfectly safe the whole time

It's also really telling how almost every other AoS character had a dysfunctional household and didn't turn out like him. Coulson's dad died when he was young, May's parents were divorced, Fitz's dad walked out on him and his mom, Daisy, dear god we don't have time to get into that... it really becomes a question of nature vs nurture, how Ward might've been a good person had Garrett not been the one leading him (as we see in the Framework)

I think where my sympathy for him ends is around the start of season 2. We see that he's held by S.H.I.E.L.D. to give them information, so one would think that he's using this to kinda redeem himself, yeah? NOPE

The only time he gives information is when Skye is there bc he's obsessed with her, and constantly leaves out important tidbits that usually fuck over the team. He doesn't show regret for any of his actions, especially with Fitz, and still believes he did the right thing (throwing him into the ocean and giving him a brain injury. Yeah nice job) bc the alternative was a bullet. When he works with them again towards the end of the season, he completely ignores all their concerns and acts that they're a team again, like all he did was just a minor oopsie. My guy, YOU HURT ALL OF THEM!! STFU

And then, of course, after he accidently kills Kara, he repeats the same cycle and blames S.H.I.E.L.D. for her death, going further and further into HYDRA. This is something that Ward stans tend to leave out-- they always say how he never had a good life and that Garrett was his one concern, but they never mention how he literally started up HYDRA again long after he was gone. They never mention how he tortured Bobbi even though Kara herself didn't want that to happen to her. They constantly woob-ify and baby Ward as though he's not a full-grown adult who knows what he's doing

Oh, and for the record, HYDRA are Nazis. They're fucking Nazis. Idc if they "predated" them, they were always fascist and were more than happy to align themselves with them when they rolled around. There's a reason the writers chose to make the HYDRA-controlled Framework a parallel to 1930s Germany. HYDRA ARE NAZIS

So. I suppose I can sympathize with him to an extent and I understand why he does certain actions. But Grant Ward is an adult who was never in any risk at any point with HYDRA, and the fact that he chose to stay with them speaks to his character and how he really is as a person

The Framework reality is so funny to me

Idk why it made me so happy that ward was a mole or why i hadnt anticipated it but i immediately said, out loud "oh, how the tables have turned"

But it actually jumpscared me when they showed their picture tg at the end of the last episode AND when he called her skye

Oh and also when he was all romantic in the morning? Im scarred

Though what actually BROKE me is that she saw "your boyfriend" and immediately thought lincoln, even went as far as calling ward lincoln when he was in bed, like okay im sad now

And coulson having made research on everything he remembers from the real world?? Like thats my man oml hes amazing

Fitz being the mastermind behind HYDRA is genius and actually shows what it would be like if he used his skills for evil

Jemma’s sass towards Ward in the Framework is truly unmatched. She gives no fucks as she keeps subtly (and not so subtly) jabbing at him left and right. She experiences genuine visceral disgust when she finds out him and Daisy woke up together (“this isn’t the Framework, this is HELL”). Girl was done before even entering the Framework, but as soon as she saw that mf’s face, you can see the last shred of sanity leave her body lmao

AU —— Amelia has been apart of the Inhuman/Brotherhood Of Mutants and Hydra all along, and is working against SHIELD (Why? We will never know..). After she had to reveal her powers to control a handful of soldiers after them while keeping a few in the process, to try Ward, to save the team and complete the mission. 

He decided to protect her and hide her secret, not knowing she was a spy. She doesn’t want to be saved or protected, in fear of letting her guard down, choosing to run away but Ward always finds her. The young heroes will always find her.

Motivation: Amelia's loyalty to Hydra stems from a desire for power and control. Before watching Season four I had already read a little bit about the framework, but not enough to understand what's it all about. But I wanted to understand. So, when I started season four, I wished the whole time that the Framework part would begin.

Well, not for long. As soon as Jemma and Daisy entered the Framework, I regretted asking for it. It was just so much worse than I imagined, all five Framework episodes made me really anxious, really wasn't fun. I heard about The Doctor before but damn, Fitz! The whole time I just wanted the old Fitz back and punch his father (well, and AIDA). But we got top acting from Iain De Caestecker, so that's a plus (from everyone really, but especially Iain).

Also, it was a surprisingly nice surprise to see Grant Ward again, I wouldn't have thought that one day I'd be happy to see him and be not angry about everything he does.

On the other hand, the episodes were all absolutely GREAT, it just wasn't fun. Actually, that works for all episodes of season four - great but not fun. I enjoyed it, even when the most present thought was "Don't hurt them, don't hurt ME!"

i’m bringing this up again because my friend tried to rationalize ward’s actions by saying “john garrett manipulated/indoctrinated him” “ward thought he owed him everything” NAH

the one good thing garrett did for ward was break him out of prison, which certainly wasn’t selfless. anything that garrett does after that inspires no loyalty. leaving him stranded in the forest, ordering him to kill his dog, constantly ridiculing him.

garrett even says repeatedly that ward owes him nothing, that ward earned everything on his own, and that garrett didn’t give him anything. he was completely honest with ward about everything and always gave ward a choice. ward constantly chooses his loyalty to garrett over doing the right thing. and it’s not even blind loyalty, because garrett never lied to him… it’s more like habitual loyalty.

at one point in the show ward literally BEGS garrett to give him an order. any order. that’s pathetic, and i love it.

if ward was smart, he would have taken the dog and left garrett when he had the chance. he proved that he could survive on his own and garrett said that no one was looking for him. he could’ve been free, with a sweet doggy dog, but instead he decided to work for a freaking nazi. this was the worst trade deal in the history of trade deals.

i’m rewatching agents of shield and looking at old media from when it aired and i just gotta say….. ward apologists are some of most annoying people on earth.

like don’t get me wrong, he’s an interesting character. but he’s a villain. let him be a villain and just enjoy it!! stop trying to make him this poor abandoned baby in the woods that needs protection. he dropped fitzsimmons out of a plane, he tortured bobbi. he willingly followed an evil man without caring about the consequences, then blamed him for all of his own actions and choices.

he’s weak minded, sadistic, & arrogant, which makes him a bad person, but a really fun villain.

Framework episodes were definitely exciting and weird to watch. I could complain about the whole thing tripped me out because I had forgotten that they were in there and not in their actual world (but to spare you the time I’m not going to). Framework!Ward wasn’t too bad kinda feel bad for him but only for a tiny bit! Wish we had more of him honestly but y’know that’s how it was planned out to be. I just don’t know how to describe it in words but I would say for the most part that it was thrilling and exciting to watch.

I loved seeing Fitz being evil that really intrigued me by far, but thing I will actually complain about is that there were no Bobbi or Hunter? That’s what hurt the most because I kinda expected them to be in there also. AIDA should’ve know that they were vitual to their team but she didn’t include them? There’s so many wonders that I have about that situation like she must’ve know that they were important and yes, I’m putting it out there because I love Bobbi and Hunter. I’m truly upset that they weren’t there. They should’ve been because I would’ve been *surprised pikachu face* and it would’ve really intriguing on what would’ve been their roles, and how they impacted on the Framework.

Far away you were made in a sea just like me Pt 1 of Hemispheres. This was supposed to be a Loki/Tony one-shot, and haha fooled me, it's turned into a long WIP that I will eventually finish when my brain is willing to cooperate.

Supernaut Part 1 of Light a candle, light a motive. This, too, was supposed to be a one-shot and somehow turned into a WIP of individual fics that are connected by universe but not necessarily being written in order. This is Loki/Tony with a side character of Nebula. The other ships include Bucky/Steve, Thor/Darcy, Bruce/Jane, Clint/Nat. Yes, it's pre and post-Endgame, yes it is a fix-it. It even has Morgan, but uh. She's not Tony and Pepper's. She's still Tony's...just not Pepper's.

4 What fandoms do you write for?

Marvel - not just MCU but kind of all of Marvel. Comic'verse, Fox X-Men 'verse, MCU. Kind of all over the place. I have dabbled in Stranger Things and will want to eventually do more Steddie for that - I have some more planned, just not written yet. I've done one tiny Hannibal drabble, but as much as I love the series, I don't see me writing more for it. I'd love to eventually try my hand at some other series or movies I love (Peaky Blinders? Maybe? American Gods, perhaps. Versailles? That would be a challenge but fun. Velvet Goldmine - I still have an idea for that that I've had since Livejournal days, but I just have never written it).

Sunset Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., during the Framework episodes, this is Framework Grant Ward, Framework Antoine Triplett, and Framework Holden Radcliffe in the last moments on the beach before the Framework is completely erased.

Time After Time Fox X-Men'verse, Scott Summers/Logan, meshing together X-Men 3 and The Wolverine (the second one, not the Origin movie).

7 Fic with the happiest ending?

I write almost exclusively happy endings, so I'm not really sure which I could consider my happiest ending. Perhaps my readers should chime in and tell me what they think my happiest ending is.

8 Do you get hate?

I did once on a fic - it's a Steve/Loki fic that also has a side order of Winteriron, and I was told by stuckygirl that she hoped I was raped and that I should kill myself. Then on the first chapter of Part 3 Hemispheres, I was told that clearly I'd abandoned the fic (by some other random person who'd been praising all the other parts of this series) and that was "too bad." Even though I'd already told this reader that I was still working on the fic but slowly. Not really hate, but the bitch still annoyed me with that.

9 Do you write smut?

I do. Not a ton of it most of the time, but I do write it, but I imagine it's not overly popular smut because I don't write BDSM or fetishes or omegaverse or any of that stuff. 10 Have you ever co-written a fic?

Actually I've co-written a couple of fics with @scottxlogan. We even have two we're in the middle of co-writing (but I need to do my part on both of them, I think - or at least one of them, but my brain has been so muddy lately for writing that I'm behind on writing as well as reading all the fics I want to read, and I hate that).

Falling in love as the world falls down Scott/Logan, a Secret Santa gift for @cerylid Mission gone wrong, Emma (and others) save the day.

The course of true love never did run smooth Scott/Logan, Loki/Tony, only it doesn't start out that way. Two couples on the outs who think to make each other jealous. Once again, Emma comes in and saves the day. Sort of. This one is a personal favorite, especially with all the Midsummer Night's Dream quotes as chapter titles.

The two we're working on very slowly - one is a Bucky/Loki Veterinarian AU, Alpine features heavily. The other is huge, Pride-themed, Scott/Logan, Loki/Emma, Tony/Steve/Bucky...and so many other characters involved. We'll definitely have to break this one into chapters, but it's fun.

11 All time favorite ship?

No. I have too many favorite ships, and I multi-ship, so I can't really pick a favorite.

12 WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

All American Barbecue. It's a reactive piece to Bendis' Avengers vs. X-Men. Sort of...AvX Meets Wicker Man and it's not going to have a happy ending for Steve Rogers.

13 Writing strengths?

Humor, Fluff, Descriptions, and Easter Eggs.

14 Writing weaknesses?

Finishing shit in a timely fashion due to lack of brain juice.

I think some Ward stans need to start learning how to separate real world Grant Ward and Framework Ward

Because yes, irl Grand Ward could've been a good person, he could've been a double agent but the other way around, he could've helped save the team, but the fact is that he didn't. Because all that is just a "could". All of that is just a "what if"

Framework Ward was designed to be exactly that. He was designed to be the opposite of the Ward we know, to be a genuine good person, because in the end, it was simply a scenario. It was just what we could've had

Framework Ward is not a replacement for the real Ward and he is not an excuse for the real Ward
