i also just love the idea of Thorin trying to bond with a teen Frodo. i think he’d be bad at it. i think it would endear him to Frodo anyway bc weird bitches have to stick together
Frodo: *typical teenage angst idk*
Thorin (trying to be relatable): *nods* this is just like the time a dragons hoard infected my mind and made me want to seal myself away inside a mountain full of riches and kill anyone who came near
Frodo:
Frodo (angst completely forgotten): ok what

Guys I just realized something
I’m reading Return of the King, and have just reached the chapter called “The Tower of Cirith Ungol,” in which Sam makes to rescue his master.
Something notable about this is that Sam has put on the Ring not once, but twice so far - and both times, his experience has been markedly different than Frodo’s.
Firstly, his vision is impaired. Everything he sees is somewhat obscured by a dark fog. It’s unclear whether this is an effect of the Ring entering Mordor, or if that’s just what it does to him specifically; after all, the Ring acts differently for each Wearer.
It’s the second effect that’s really interesting. You see, for some reason, the Ring improves his hearing. In both instances, he can hear orc-chatter from afar, as well as tumbling rocks and the foaming of Shelob. But what’s really wild about this is that the same never happens to Frodo.
Because the Ring reflects the Will and Strengths of the User, I can only assume this means one thing.
The One Ring empowers Samwise Gamgee’s eavesdropping.

Losing my mind over how Frodo and Sam start off as “master and servant” within the Shire’s class system, but the moment they leave that system behind and are just two hobbits trying to survive in the wilderness, the entire Quest of the Ring essentially turns into the World’s Most Horrifying First Date, and they come out of it barely alive but desperately in love, and spend the next several months in the greatest and fairest lands in the world (Ithilien, Minas Tirith, Rivendell) for what’s essentially a well-earned honeymoon and when they return home to the Shire, they go “screw the class system” and literally move in together and then open their doors to Rosie and all three of them get to spend six precious months raising Elanor as one happy family before Frodo’s wounds from that First Date force him to say goodbye for a full 61 years but not before he makes Sam his heir and Sam - like a widow - inherits all of Frodo’s wealth and lives a prosperous life with Rosie because of it, and then eventually, it is Sam’s actions during that First Date that grant him the privilege to go after Frodo and get their happily ever after.

Bag End had never looked more beautiful than that morning, being lightened by the first rays of sun hitting the green strings on the rooftop, and the slight sounds of morning waking up the Shire.
-
The previous night Thorin and Bilbo had fallen asleep on the soft armchair near the fireplace ( now turned off) , Thorin with an unfinished book falling from his big overworked hands, and Bilbo, who had came late at night to rescue him from sleeping in the living room, ended up being abducted with some tired growl, and a soft but firm pull at his arm, to sleep there cuddled against his husband.
His Dwarf held him firmly, as a statue holding a sleeping cat, and the burglar's head sat comfortably between the bearded jaw and neck.
The first string of light hit Thorin's cheek, then his eyelid, causing him to hardly open one of his eyes.
His hands tightened softly around Bilbo's body to ensure a solid grip, and he placed a devoted kiss on top of his head, eyes closed, keeping his face there, falling back in a light sleep.
Morning was yet to start, and both of them were really just snuggling their way off of getting up.
A soft chuckle and a light sound of steps followed as ten minutes passed by. And as the steps grew closer, and Thorin slowly opened one eye again, he was greeted by the familiar figure, making his way up to the armchair where his uncles rested;
"You really shouldn't sleep like this...
Your old backs will sue you."
Chuckled Frodo, clothes already on, but black locks still messed up from sleeping.
The young hobbit took the book from the ground (where it ended up resting during the various snuggles), and put it on the table near them.
"Kurdu mâ" said the King, eyes now both open, still not totally awake.
Still in the fumes of sleep, Thorin placed a hand on the boy's cheek, a simple gesture, but one that spoke of years of care.
Frodo smiled to his uncle's affection, and placed a steaming hot cup near the book.
"My back is younger than yours boy ... and better trained-" answered a mumbling (but stinging) voice coming from Bilbo, eyes still closed, but hand reaching for his nephews forehead.
The black curly head chuckled as he lowed to the contact, reaching for uncle Bilbo's hand.
"Coffe awaits, oh mighty Hobbit under the Hill!" Said Frodo, lowering in a deep, mocking bow, making Thorin chuckle softly, and causing the motion in his chest to also navigate towards the husband.
Just like when he was little.

If I have to hear "Sam was the real hero" another damned time I might just summon the spirit of Samwise Gamgee himself so that he could smack you in the face with a frying pan
