Red Thirst🩸
The Red Thirst is a genetic flaw deeply embedded into the Blood Angels Gene-Seed. When Sanguinius became aware of it, he felt responsible for the suffering of his sons and desperately sought out a cure while keeping it secret from the rest of the Imperium, including the Emperor himself. The Red Thirst causes warriors to suffer an unusual bloodlust, instilling them with a thirst for the blood of their enemies. Those who succumb to the Red Thirst or Black Rage are either formed into the Death Company or locked away in the Tower of the Lost on Baal, until they change completely, going insane. These traits have also been passed on to their successor chapters, such as the Flesh Tearers, Blood Drinkers, and Angels Sanguine. The Red Thirst is so overwhelming that the Blood Angels forget their noble heritage and completely lose control over themselves. It is not unheard of that Blood Angels squads abandon advantageous positions to engage the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. More often than not, these assaults turn out to be so devastating that unprepared enemy forces are simply swept away

[Book Excerpt|The Devastation of Baal]Dante's Vision of Sanguinius

The Sanguinor had come to him at the end of his service.
‘You came,’ he said. His throat was dry, his lips numb. The beautiful voice that had inspired millions was a harsh whisper. ‘You came after all.’
The Sanguinor kept its silence, but stood back and flung an arm wide to indicate a greater presence behind it.
Dante’s breath caught in his chest. Once again, he saw the face of Sanguinius, but this was no metal representation. The face was of flesh, the wings that spread either side of his body were white feathers, not cold sculpture. His body was as real as his sorrow. He shone like a desert sun in the full glory of noon, a bringer of light dangerous in its incandescent power.
‘My son,’ Sanguinius said. ‘My greatest son.’
The primarch reached out to him. Dante was on his back, but at the same time it was as if he floated in an immense void, and Sanguinius hovered in front of him. And yet, when the primarch cried, his tears fell forward onto Dante’s face. All reality’s order was disturbed, but this felt like no dream or vision. When Sanguinius’ glowing fingers traced the line of Dante’s cheek, they were solid and warm, and they brought into him a sense of peace and holy joy.
'You have suffered greatly for mankind’s sake,’ said Sanguinius. His voice was beautiful. ‘You have won your rest a thousand times. Rarely has one man given so much, Luis of Baal Secundus. You have been a light in dark times. I would give you any reward. I would take you to my side. I would free you from strife. I would release you from pain.’
‘Yes!’ said Dante. ‘Please. I have served so long. Grant me the freedom of death.’
Sanguinius gave Dante a look of profound sorrow.
‘I cannot. I regret that I can do none of those things. I need you, Dante. Your suffering is not done.’ Sanguinius gripped Dante’s face in both hands. Strength flowed from the primarch, driving out death’s comfort and replacing it with pain. The scene rippled. He heard the shouts of Space Marines, felt the ghostly touch of living hands upon his armour. Sanguinius faded.
‘Please, no!’ Dante cried out. ‘My lord, I have done enough. Please! Let me rest!’
The light was dying; Sanguinius’ smile carried with it the sorrows of ten thousand years. Darkness was returning. The Great Angel disappeared into it, but his glorious voice lingered a moment.
‘I am sorry, my son, that you cannot rest. Not yet. Live, my son. Live.’
Dante returned to life screaming for the mercy of death.
Hands were all over Dante, holding him down. Sharp pains intruded via his neural shunts.
‘No, no, no! No more! Take me with you! I beg you!’ Dante shouted.
He lashed out with his fist. Metal hit metal.
‘Hold him! Hold him down! He is coming round!’

Could you write Astaroth at the Devastation of Baal? Dm for details as always.
His knees could have been made out of stone. He feels each bit of control slipping away like strings on a puppet being cut. His emotions and mind are falling limp. Till there's just one string left. Rage. It is the only thing that can come through.
Then comes the sensation of falling. It is like watching the neighbors shoddy pict feed through a fish bowl you're using as a telescope.
He can make out the image of Baal. Is he home?

The statue. Crumbled before him. Coated in the spatter of his most recent endeavor.
Some desperately crawl away. Escape or to a weapon?
How many have survived? How many will be entombed with in dreadnoughts? He doesn't care.
His mind is exhausted. Body as well. Rage takes it all out if you.
He looks to the side of the statue, to the figure at the top of the steps. He tries to stand as tall as he can, despite his wounds.
The golden mask, in likeness of his father, has fallen off the astartes. Long hair fading from black to white hangs losely.

(JTA) — As we mark the grim second anniversary of the Ukraine conflict this Shabbat, I’m reminded of a haunting melody I heard in the city of Poltava last month.
I was standing before Sonia Bunina, a plucky 17-year-old, when she opened her mouth to sing when an air raid siren rang out.
I flinched. Not Sonia — she didn’t miss a beat.
“Kol haolam kulo gesher t’zar meod, veha’ikar lo lifached k’lal,” she belted out before seeking shelter. “The whole world is a very narrow bridge, and the most important thing is to have no fear at all.”
Sonia, like so many Jews I know in Ukraine, is many things — determined, grieving, focused — but she’s certainly not cowering.
As she sang those words by Rebbe Nachman of Breslov — the Ukrainian Jewish sage whose followers continue to come by the tens of thousands to his grave in Uman annually — she embodied the prayer’s indomitable spirit.
Sonia and I met outside Poltava’s Hesed, part of the network of Jewish humanitarian hubs founded by my organization — the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, or JDC — more than three decades ago. Today they’re a lifeline to tens of thousands of Jews facing loss and strife. Since she was a toddler, Sonia has been attending activities at Hesed — her mother coordinates cultural programs for the elderly, and she connects teen volunteers like herself with isolated seniors, a critical source of comfort these last two years.
These days, traveling to Ukraine feels like a pilgrimage — there’s a pull in my soul to visit family near Lviv, to bear witness to Ukrainian Jewish resilience, and to be inspired by the clarity of purpose that is so palpable there. Since my first trip in 2011, I’ve been eight times. Last year, I wrote about how a year of crisis had transformed the ordinary into the sacred in Ukraine. Now, visiting feels even more essential with the worsening humanitarian situation.
Ukrainian Jews aren’t blasé about these challenges — far from it. Just take the delicate ballet of emotions on their faces when checking their phones during an air alert — contacting loved ones, scrolling through photos of devastation, and analyzing Telegram chats speculating on a given rocket’s make and trajectory.
But life goes on — there’s work to do — and though they’ve lost so much, they refuse to give any more away.
Showing up for each other, whatever it takes, is now baked into their very essence as Jews, and in Ukraine, there are tens of thousands to serve — hungry old women and displaced young families, disabled Holocaust survivors and stunned middle-aged professionals, shocked to now need help when they were once donors and volunteers.
They act fearlessly to ensure their communities make it through this crisis, body and soul intact. Can we expect anything less than boundless creativity from the people who birthed Sholem Aleichem and the Baal Shem Tov?
“These bombings, all these things that are killing people, destroying houses, leaving children homeless … it’s very scary,” Galina Limarenko, an 82-year-old retired nurse, told me in her small bedroom in Berezivka, taking note of the warm blanket, firewood, and other winter supplies my colleagues provided. “Thank God for the Jewish community, which never gives up and always shares even their very last piece of bread.”
I saw that irrepressible spirit again at our Beit Dan JCC in battered Kharkiv — a shapeshifting wellspring of strength just a few dozen kilometers from the eastern border. Shortly after Feb. 24, 2022, the center became a staging ground for truckloads of emergency aid — part of the 800 tons of humanitarian assistance we’ve delivered so far.
A few blocks from missile strikes, it now hosts children’s camps and soulful Shabbat services and operates a “kids hub,” offering academic enrichment to children who haven’t had in-person school for years — robbed of normal childhood by the pandemic and now the ongoing crisis.
And amidst blizzards and blackouts, Beit Dan has also become a “warm hub,” a safe place for beleaguered Jewish Kharkivites to charge their devices and obtain a hot drink and warm meal.
“If you share in our pain, and provide support where it’s needed, I’m forever grateful,” said Nika Simonova, Beit Dan’s program director. “The ability to remain human is the main thing. Done right, I believe that can save the world.”
That’s why we at JDC, aided by a coalition of partners including the Jewish Federations, Claims Conference, and International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, deployed a historic response to this conflict and remain committed to the Jewish future here.
We’re focused on ongoing humanitarian support for more than 41,000 Ukrainian Jews, expanding trauma relief, closing children’s educational gaps, and getting unemployed Jewish community members, among millions of Ukrainians plunged into poverty, back to work.
There is no doubt that the Jewish world is now responding to crises on multiple fronts, including this one, but we have been here so many times before. We must draw strength from our history and from the sure knowledge that this is what we’re built for. Our compassion and commitment, when leveraged with that timeless sense of mutual Jewish responsibility, means we can tackle the challenges we face — and come out on the other side even stronger.
As I walked through Lviv on my last day in Ukraine, I asked my cousin Anna Saprun, a 25-year-old business analyst, how this period has changed her.
“I hate what’s brought me here, but I love who I’ve become,” she said with a fierce and feisty smile. “Nothing scares me anymore. I feel powerful.”
Two years after the conflict began, Ukraine’s Jews are inspired anew each day, resolute in the sure knowledge that they know exactly who they’re working for — each other.

Absolutely sad new lore for Lilith but also some hcs for the people of Baal.
I like to think that in the culture that Sanguinius and Lilith grew up in carved bones both for funeral and just in general. It's to the point that when Lilith sees all the bones used for decorations by the Imperium, she finds it terribly tacky to have uncarved bones. This is also how she ended up bonding with Sevatarion, Dorn, and Fulgrim.
Fulgrim might seem weird, but like, imagine her complaining to him about the tackiness of just using plain bones for everything. They'd get along.
Dorn finding Lilith carving some bones whether it be human or animal, and then silently joining her as they carve together. Maybe even swapping techniques, or showing different designs or runes.
Sevetarion being surprised when she compliments his bones carved with Night Lord Runes, and is even more surprised to find that she's not disturbed at all by it and even pleased by the fact he doesn't leave his bones unadorned. So they end up getting along and bonding over it, especially when she shows the bones she's carved.
But now onto the sad part, you know how I said the People of Baal, or rather the Blood carved bones for funerals? Yea, Lilith carved Sanguinius' bones to both prepare him for his burial and as a way of mourning. It was also a way to help put him back together after his death, even replacing his broken feathers with those of her own. I imagine a couple of her Uncles like Guilliman were horrified by what she was doing to her father's corpse, but Leman and Dorn were very understanding of why she was doing it.
It was very different from how she carved bones before, usually Dorn and the others had only see her art, the way that the bones weren't exactly carved with anything other in mind then to be pretty, but Sanguinius' bones...were carved with deliberate intent. Runes and sigils form a story, marks that any of the Blood would recognize to be that of an Honoured warrior and Father. Each Carving holding a meaning and made by the love of a grieving daughter.
It would be past into mythos of how the Angel's daughter carved each bone painstakingly, though in the wider Imperium it would be changed that a priestess blessed the angel's body before he was laid to rest, filled with imperial propaganda of the God Emperor and Sanguinius as a saint. Meanwhile on baal, the story told is much closer to the truth, focusing on the daughter's grief, and how she wept blood as she carved each bone as any daughter should for their parents. Both myths are often told on Saguinala, and in the Imperium it's the reason why they make small dolls that then embroidered to represent the Daughter and what she did, though they don't know it's because she carved the bones of the Great Angel anymore after ten thousand years. And after the devastation of Baal, only the blood angels and their successor chapters know the truth anymore aside from Lilith and her two uncles.
#sanguinius#fulgrim#rogal dorn#jago sevatarion#Lilith of baal#sanguinala#this was all brought on by the idea of bone carving#and then it evolved from there#I think it's neat#this does mean that if Sanguinius' remains were to be exhumed they'd be filled with carvings from her like any body of the Blood#enjoy my rambles#warhammer 40k#warhammer 30k

For the Shitten AU
I can see the Lambs most trusted disciples taking on the role of raising and teaching them. They just saw a god and their most loyal follower who very well could have become a god themselves fight to the death. So when they see the red crown accidentally create the new being before them from the blood of the fallen gods…. What is there to do but go forward. Their lamb gets a burial, the one who waits gets what they can get as close to a burial.
The shitten is born in their young adulthood an in between of their parents ages. Magic birth from panicking trying to resurrect one of any two people is odd. They have vague memories from both parents. But they are fully their own being. It’s like the red crown accidentally fused the souls of the lamb and Narinder together. So there is no way to resurrect them at all anymore.
The red crown while embarrassed by the panicked choice, doesn’t regret it at all. It has a bearer doesn’t it? The spawn of two of its most competent and powerful bearers.
The mystic sellers are fucking confused. Weren’t you a lamb a second ago?? Our Shitten makes deals to help resurrect Aym and Baal, vaguely having memories of them from Narinder. The two adore their new sibling. While they are absolutely devastated at losing Narinder, they vow to protect their new sibling. They happily answer questions about Narinder and the Lamb. Despite the fight they technically just had with the Lamb, they still have fond memories of them. And hearing about their death leaves a similar stinging feeling when they heard about Narinders death. They were starting to see the Lamb as family they realized.
Ratau helps of course. Rat grandpa

Well, this was a strike from a power sword that cut my heart unexpectedly...
When he looked to his side to see the person helping him he saw Albinus sometimes, but at other times he saw the Sanguinor, and once his own, long-forgotten father, his amber eyes perfect in a rad-ravaged face. Dante had those eyes himself, the sole reminder that he was another man's son besides the Great Angel's.
"Come on, Luis," said his father. "Not far now."
"Da?" said Dante. "Da, is that you? Look at me, look! I became an angel, Da."
"My Lord?"
His father's face shivered away like a mirage over a desert. Albinus' concerned face replaced it. "My Lord, we should stop. You are gravely wounded. Please allow us to help you. Let us carry you."

Updated Lilith, made it a bit easier to see her and made her hair colour a bit more natural looking. Didn't feel like playing with the hair to get to the right shade, so this will have to do.
Also have some fun facts about Lilith:
-She was actually born a few years before the Emperor found Sanguinius on Baal, having been born to a blind woman by the name of Amara Whitestrike. The Emperor wasn't pleased by this.
-Also Sanguinius wanted to name her Celestia originally, Amara talked him out of it -For the longest time was known as little Sister amongst the Blood Angels until she eventually got so old there were no marines left that were older then her - Her favourite uncles were Jaghatai Khan and Leman Russ as a child, as an Adult it's Guilliman because holy shit it's nice to have at least one normal family member who isn't either in the warp, dead, or a demon.
-She was actually never all that close to Horus due to usually leaving Horus and her father together since she knew Horus was the one her father trusted most. He was also often a bit much for her, finding herself exhausted just by being around him, whilst Jagh and Leman were a lot better for her to be around.
-She was, however, close to Fulgrim and knew what would happen to him the minute she saw him with the Laer blade. She did not tell him to get rid of it, for she knew it was already too late and mourned for him to the confusion of even her own Father.
-Also very close to Jaghatai and Rogal, both of whom she considered close family. She knows both are still alive somewhere and shares the same belief as their legions that they'll return. She's currently wishing Dorn would hurry his ass up about it though.
-Despite eventually becoming a Space Marine, she was never indoctrinated nor did she ever undergo the transplants and thus isn't considered an Astartes despite her size this is sometimes forgotten because she's older then dirt.
-Speaking of her being older then dirt, she's a Perpetual like Vulkan. It's the only reason she actually survived the Devastation of Baal. This has caused problems because she never announces that she's alive again, she just shows up. This has resulted in her being mistaken for the Sanguinor at least twice and caused poor Dante to think he was hallucinating for over a month. It was only when another marine said hello to her that Dante learned he wasn't going insane.
-She does have the black rage, though it appears to be close to how it was in Sanguinius then the weird possession that happens to Blood Angels, this coupled with the fact she does indeed possess the red thirst has had her under scrutiny many a times. However, she's also the oldest warrior the blood angels have and despite being considered a relic, her loyalty has not faltered and she's been well known to train neophytes herself, being very hands on.
-While sometimes possessing the same purity as her father, many times she actually comes off as a predator more often then not. This has caused many a times when she's showed up to take a look at the aspirants only to have them recoil in fear. (This upsets her greatly and there have been times where she's just tried to comfort them, only for them to see her teeth and talons. She's trying her best-)
-Despite this she is a great leader as her father is and well respected within the legion, though her fighting style often seems strange due to being heavily influenced by the training she received from both Leman and Jagh as a child and young woman.
-As a result she often does things that may seem strange to the blood angels, but make perfect sense to a Space Wolf or to a White Scar
#This ended up very long-#I'm very happy with Lilith#She has cried over the aspirants fearing her#this usually has a some poor marine awkwardly trying to comfort her#Blood angels#sanguinuis#warhammer oc#jaghatai khan#leman russ#horus lupercal#roboute guilliman#woman is somewhat feral#this is not all helped by Leman#jagh is the reason why she's fucking horrifying on the battlefield because khan tactics mixed with the black rage is a match made in hell#warhammer 40k#warhammer 30k#The emperor was not pleased by the fact Sanguinius had a child#Lilith was aware of him and recognized Emps as her grandfather#this may be the sole reason why Emps allowed her to live#that and it probably would've caused Sanguinius to go into pissed off hawk mode

The Lamentors Errant chapter was formed after the Devastation of Baal, a chapter with a holy quest: to find the lost Lamentors chapter, to bring them reinforcements, news of Guilliman and the Primaris, if they still exist, and if not to find evidence of their demise. While much of the chapter was freshly created from fresh aspirants, the core of the new Lamentors Errant was made up of volunteers from across the galaxy of Blood Angels successor chapters. Some of these astartes are those who have not yet crossed the Rubicon Primaris, and these ancient veterans are held in high esteem, some of them having personally fought with (or against) the original Lamentors in ages past. Their combat prowess has been honed through centuries of warfare, they have stood firm against the Black Rage for many years, and some of them have debts to repay. These warriors are committed where the fight is thickest, where their hard earned tactical acumen and ancient weapons may thrust straight through the foe's weakest point.
This is the Lamentors Errant First Sword Company.

The freehand work on these two was absolutely nerve wracking, but I'm so proud of how they came out.

Special Weapons. I really need to work on my plasma effects, they're not great.

And one last Bolter Brother.
These guys were made from the Dark Angels Company Veterans box, a truly wonderful kit, I wish GW still designed stuff like they did these guys. Absolute joy to work with. What they're really for is proxying Chaos Space Marines for OPR Firefight & compendium Killteam with backup from my Stargrave Scavengers as cultists. Because I love the stargrave scavengers so much and I really love the idea of a couple space marines providing muscle for a bunch of cultists, it's just such a fun idea and we don't get to see it much. I'm very happy to be done with these guys and very proud of them!

Dear void,
apparently, when you need a new "obsess on lore" franchise after dumping LoZ and DA, there is a
*sees Heinrix fanart and character analysis* -> *get curious and buy the game* -> * LOVE Rogue Trader, also the "this is really horrible.. wait, waaait, with so much death, are the candles from human.. o___o " grimdark is really oddly cathartical* -> *starts browsing tumblr for "the popular horus heresy thingy I remember from xy years ago" *, also lore bits -> *primarch fanart n such*, also hello Conrad and overworked Roboute -> *deepdiving lore after reading book excerpts here and on 40klore and being positively suprised* -> *starts buying W40k ebooks*
pipeline to Warhammer40k.
I AM slightly frustrated though with the dudes at work though, because apparently "liking Warhammer" is mostly just "liking spacemarines and playing the popular games". BUT at least my excitment about Rogue Trader got two of them to buy and play RT though (thanks to the coop mode in one case) , and 3P-coop for next time when spacemarines2 is on sale. yay =D
BOOKS Current reading "order": the long night (done), shadow of treachery: the prince of crows (done), know no fear (rn), pharos (tbr).. Also, I'm sorry, but centuries of manga conditioned my brain to not read BL as Black Library, so w40k posts sometimes read really weird in the first moments ;__; Anyways, my current wishlist looks like this: soul hunter , night lords omnibus, angels of caliban, master of mankind, dante, ruinstorm, devastation of baal, the lords of silence, konrad curze, dark imperium, eisenhorn omnibus, morvenn vahl (just because she looks so cool, hopefully she is more interesting than Argenta ^^"), fall of cadia [yes, there is a light "poor guy, I know those bad the grey beyond suicidal depression behaviours well" bias for someone, I pity him]
Some light QUESTIONS in case the voids listens -Is there a story on how and why Alastor Rushal joined Sevatar? (and got his tongue cut?) [yes, asking the important questions here, lol] -And related to that: What else can I put on my booklist? Can be Xenobooks too. -Isn't Emps and the IoM basically fuelling chaos with all the suffering and deaths? -random thought I had: Are the Astartes as strong man-looking angels a reference to the Jacob fight story? (since apparently GW love their cultural references..?) -Did the Adeptus Mechanicus still have the knowledge about how to build fusion/nuclear reactors in 30k - seeing as apparently some primarchs are nukehappy, but in RT such a reactor was apparently a special holy relic?
#w40k#rogue trader#just needing some outlet for being excited about something again#I really don't understand how people can just kill off Idira#If I love Pascal would Cawl be fun to read about?
