🕰️ Alice’s Time-Traveling Guide to Elapsed Time! ⏳✨
By Alice Hi hi hiiii! It’s me—Alice, your snack-loving, bunny-chasing, time-telling explorer! 🐰🍪🕰️ And do you know what time it is?! TIME TO LEARN ABOUT… well… TIME! Big Sister Ariel wrote a paper that’s so cool, I almost forgot I was supposed to be reading it and not just pretending I had a magical watch that lets me stop time before bedtime. (If only. 😩) She calls it “Mastering Elapsed…

Celebrating Diversity in Education and  Innovation: Inventions by Black People, Fun Math Activities, Multiplication Techniques, and Engaging Fraction Teaching
Tumblr media
Exploring the richness of education and innovation, this article delves into four intriguing topics that contribute to a holistic learning experience. From celebrating the remarkable inventions by Black people to making math engaging and understandable, these concepts shape the way we learn and perceive the world around us.
Inventions By Black People: A Legacy of Innovation
Black inventors have made significant contributions across various fields, enriching the world with their ground-breaking creations. From Garrett Morgan's traffic signal to Patricia Bath's laser cataract surgery device, these inventions reflect creativity, resilience, and ingenuity. Recognizing and celebrating these innovations not only highlights their impact but also inspires individuals from all backgrounds to pursue their own inventive endeavors.
Fun Math Activities for High School: Turning Learning into Adventure
High school math can be both challenging and rewarding. By introducing fun math activities, educators can transform the learning experience. Interactive games, real-world problem-solving tasks, and creative challenges not only enhance mathematical skills but also foster a deeper understanding of abstract concepts. These activities make math relatable, promoting active engagement and a positive attitude towards learning.
Multiplication Activities: From Repetition to Exploration
Multiplication is a fundamental math concept that forms the basis of many advanced calculations. Instead of repetitive drills, multiplication activities can turn learning into an exciting exploration of patterns and relationships. Using visual aids, manipulatives, and technology, educators can help students grasp multiplication with greater ease and enjoyment, setting a strong foundation for more complex mathematical concepts.
Fun Ways to Teach Fractions: Making Fractions Fascinating
Fractions can be intimidating for many students, but they are essential building blocks in mathematics. Employing fun teaching techniques, such as hands-on experiments, relatable examples, and interactive games, educators can demystify fractions. These approaches not only break down complex concepts but also boost students' confidence and enthusiasm for tackling fractions.
In conclusion, education and innovation are intertwined forces that shape our world. By recognizing the contributions of Black inventors, making math enjoyable and understandable through activities and techniques, and engaging students in the realm of fractions, we embrace the diversity of learning and empower individuals to excel. These topics highlight the importance of fostering an inclusive educational environment where everyone can thrive and contribute to the betterment of society.

Floorplans my beloved
#Minecraft#Damned#WPVG#WPMC#Oooooh you wanna tour the Institute soooo baaaddd#Lol#So some quick stats - I believe I'm currently making this at 3/5ths scale on some loooooose math#At a glance - if the floor plan is To Scale (which tbh I don't think it is lol) the institute itself is ~330x620ftsq#Tho it's weirdly shaped so honestly it's a bit hard to tell lol#There's only one given square footage on the entire map and it's an awkward 14'x16' in the Activities Shed (not featured here - yet)#So approximating in 10' blocks from there I've been putting down two Minecraft block per approximate 10'#Which if each block is a meter then two meters is a little over 6' - 6' to 10' - thus 3/5ths scale#I /think/ I am not a math gay I just have the mental illness that makes me want to walk around fictional mental asylums#It's honestly so fun to see it come together :D#Fun to walk those halls!#It's also been very meditative to lay walls and floors and ceilings and lights and the outer shell one block at a time haha#Probably the most cerebral part has been the alternating pattern in the bathrooms haha#Funnily enough this was actually inspired by some papercraft - saw some paper buildings and got The Urge#I want some kind of physical object of the institute so baaaad#Digital effigy isn't a bad alternative tho#And there's a level of exactness that can't be achieved in like - the Sims for example#(The Sims Institute my deeply deeply beloved been pulling much inspiration thank you Alana <3)#Tho the Sims /does/ have the advantage of painting one side of a wall one colour and the other side a different colour hgh#Doubling up wall thickness has been killer on keeping the internal/external sizing consistent#I've managed so far! But I am still only on the first floor#Well - the shell of the lower floor will require restrictions either way it's fine#I'm having a lot of fun with it! And also ow my wrist lol#I think it'll be a fun resource to have :) And I mean hey - it's easier to make something physical with a 3D rendering to work from yeah?#Ignoring how Minecraft doesn't have to abide by physics lol#Institute dollhouse with modular rooms and floors...... Hh..............

Math, Algebra, free time activity
Tumblr media
In mathematical statements, the word "is" stands in for an equals sign (=).
Recompose this tawdry platitude as an algebraic statement, identifying which elements can be designated as constants, variables, coefficients, operations, etc.
Once you have created a mathematically valid equation, apply graphic design to give it any aesthetic that you feel is appropriate.

My office (18 people + usually 2 interns) is doing a darts tournament this month. 13 of us are participating and it is a small disruption from productivity (each darts game is only ~10 minutes, and we are playing an average of 3 games per week) but it's really nice to have a couple minutes of one-on-one chat time with people I normally don't work with. Also the nameplate outside the darts room is "Ballistics Research Facility" which is on brand for a bunch of aerospace engineers.

🎉 Alice’s Ultimate Guide to Perimeter and Area! 🎉
By Alice Hey everyone! It’s me, Alice, your favorite adventure-seeker, snack expert, and sometimes math student. Today, I have BIG NEWS! 🚀 Big Sister Ariel has written another brilliant and super-smart math paper—this time about Perimeter and Area! Now, I thought perimeter was just a fancy way to say “walk around something” and area was just “the space where my snacks go” 🍪, but Ariel says…

i admittedly loved girl dinner and girl math when they first started trending bc they felt so fun and positively commiserating to me. girl dinner reframed negative self-talk around food into a group of friends giggling about how actually their lazy, no-spoons meals were kinda like a poor woman’s charcuterie board if looked at in the right light, and girl math brought a “treat yourself” mindset to the backward, jumping-through-hoops justifications we often do to convince ourselves that we are in fact deserving of nice things that make us happy.
the problem is that, even if these interpretations had been clearly and explicitly stated from the beginning (which they weren’t), control of the narrative was lost the literal second the trend broke containment. misogyny is so inherent to society that you can’t even tack the word “girl” onto concepts and trends made by girls, for girls because once the gender essentialists get whiff of it, it’s over. men start using it to belittle women, women start using it to belittle women, terfs start using it to exclude trans women while simultaneously belittling cis women, spin-offs and bastardizations start popping up to further reinforce the binary gender divide, and what started as a fun way to connect with other women and girls about the ways you playfully defy society’s expectations that you constantly be pretty and healthy and thin and fiscally responsible and good at cooking and the perfect budgeter and homemaker is suddenly being used against you to remind you that, to them, your personality should only ever amount to eating disorders and shopping.
“i’m just a girl” and whatever is going on with the pink collar jobs trend (supposedly, i’m not on tiktok anymore so i haven’t seen it firsthand) started a lot closer to the negative end of this spectrum for obvious reasons, and hearing that it’s apparently still going strong makes me fucking uncomfortable for what i hope are also obvious reasons.
but at the same time i do lament the loss of safe places to laugh about the ways we as girls and women cope with the weight of patriarchal expectations without those jokes being ripped away from us, broken in half and pasted back together the wrong way around, and handed back to us with a little note that says no, being a woman means being miserable. never forget that you are stupid and lesser. you will be happy with the role you’re given, and if you ever make a joke about your experience with your gender again, you better make sure it’s at your own expense.
You can be talking to someone and she'll be like, "Oh I made a silly mistake. Women don't deserve voting rights teehee." And you'll be like, "What." And she'll be like, "Oh I'm sorry! That must sound so bad out of context. No it's this Tiktok meme where, if you're a girl and you do something dumb, you say 'Women don't deserve voting rights teehee.'"
And you'll be like, "That sounds bad." And she'll be like, "No no. It's totally not that bad. It's just a meme. Men say it too. Like if a man does something silly he'll be like, 'I am like those women who do not deserve to vote.'" And you'll be like, "Does that make it better?" And she'll be like, "Well there was one guy who tried to make 'Men shouldn't vote' a popular meme. But it never caught on and also he got yelled at a lot."
And then you drop it there because like, you're harshing the vibe.

Lower Elementary - Working with Money
This first-level elementary student is deeply engaged in a money work activity, a hallmark of Maria Montessori’s hands-on, self-directed learning philosophy. Working on the floor, he uses coins and bills with a set of pink value cards to explore coin combinations and monetary values. The materials include a board for organizing coins, a money box with various denominations, and cards labeled with amounts like "$0.12" and "18¢," encouraging the student to match or calculate equivalent values. This work fosters not only math skills such as counting and value recognition but also independence, concentration, and real-world financial literacy—core benefits of the Montessori method.

what if i dont even have a condition and its just more american propaganda floated by the CIA to try to keep asian americans out of college (not asians cuz international tuition go brrrr)
they tried with race policy and soft propaganda in high impact cities.
i wouldnt put it past them.
#my favorite pastime is assuming everything is government propaganda made to destroy me#its pretty fun#nah but like. ive been a student. ive been an aide at title 1 schools. my mom works in title 1 schools too#theres something going on#i had a class of 8th graders and i was running an intro to stem careers class for a month#these bitches cant do long addition. like. addition with carry overs#about 50% can. and about 10% can do long subtraction#mind you this school gets top tier funding. they have more money in the school and teachers and resources than i could ever dream of#thats why i got hired that time (post covid but very early)#covid was only what? 2 yrs? this is a compounding problem since at least 4th grade. 3rd even.#the teacher that dropped them off said they dont know fractions or advanced math. and i was like..... fractions? advanced? ok.........#but they cant add.#my mom was an english teacher at that time. holyyyyyyyyyy shit. her kids in 6th grade did not know phonics. PHONICS!!!! THEY CANT READ#tell me this isnt because of the government. something has been brutally molested and then silenced#all this money. all these teachers. all this support staff. and in 6-8 years they are not at 3rd grade standard.#and its not just this school. its all of them.#teachers and staff are actively punished for giving homework. giving classwork. calling on kids in class to solve a guided problem.#something something humiliation. getting 0s. giving 0s against policy.#mf *I* was punished for trying to teach these kids. tf they doing in a stem careers class if they cant read or write????#you need basic literacy to read a textbook you know that? help me help them get to highschool.#youve set them up and theyre going to fail and you did this#i saw this in 5 different schools. this HAS to be the government. i cant imagine all districts admin is evil like this#i shit you not my mom has been told our job is to babysit the kids and not teach them#i get that. i get that for impacted communities you want them to come to school first.#BUT THEY CANT READ. THEY CANNOT READ!! WE'RE NOT ALLOWED TO GRADE THEM! THEY'RE FUNCTIONALLY ILLITERATE#THEYRE 14 YEARS OLD AND CANNOT READ#this didnt used to happen when i was young btw. this wasnt a thing when i was in school#this is strictly after covid.#when i was young. title 1 was struggling and behind grade level. by like a grade or 2 max. thats 5+ now. this is the government.#the kids are 5+ years behind. have no conflict resolution skills. and are never taught how to behave in public. the fuck is going on

will say that even if i didn't make lasting friendships the semester it generally went well socially and i got to know some people. there were a couple instances of people being awful to me but they were isolated and everyone else seemed to also think the person was being weird abt me. i suppose i have proof that i am not inherently unlikeable.
