10 Reasons to Take Up a Math Challenge This Week
Mathematics is more than just numbers and equations; itâs the foundation of logical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
Whether youâre a student looking to excel in school or an adult keen to sharpen your cognitive skills, taking up a math challenge can open doors to endless opportunities.Â

Here are 10 compelling reasons why you should embrace a math challenge this week.
1. Boost Problem-Solving Skills
Math challenges are like puzzles for the brain. They push you to think critically and creatively to find solutions. These skills arenât just useful in examsâtheyâre essential in real life too!
2. Enhance Academic Performance
Students who regularly engage in math challenges often find classroom maths much easier to handle. Tackling complex problems during a challenge makes standard exercises feel like a breeze.
3. Build Confidence
Solving tricky math problems can be incredibly rewarding. Each small victory boosts your confidence, helping you approach other challenges with a positive mindset.
4. Strengthen Logical Thinking
Logical reasoning is at the core of maths. Math challenges encourage structured thinking, teaching you to approach problems step by stepâa skill that applies to all areas of life.
5. Prepare for Exams
If youâre preparing for major math exams, participating in a math challenge can give you an edge. It not only tests your knowledge but also highlights areas where you need improvement, making revision more targeted.
6. Make Maths Fun
Math challenges break the monotony of textbook exercises by adding an element of fun. Competing against friends or even yourself can make learning maths something to look forward to.
7. Improve Focus and Patience
Many math challenges require deep concentration and persistence to solve. Developing these qualities can help in other aspects of life, from studies to careers.
8. Encourage Lifelong Learning
Math isnât just for studentsâadults can benefit too. Taking on challenges as an adult keeps your brain sharp and maintains a growth mindset, proving that itâs never too late to learn.
9. Connect with Like-Minded People
Math challenges often bring people together, whether in a classroom, online forum, or local competition. Sharing solutions and strategies fosters collaboration and builds a sense of community.
10. Discover the Joy of Accomplishment
Thereâs nothing quite like the feeling of solving a tough problem after putting in the effort. This sense of accomplishment fuels motivation and proves the power of perseverance.

Last Line Challenge
Rules: In a new post, put the last line you wrote (or drew) and tag as many people as you have words (or as many as you feel like)
Tagged by just so many people (some from a while ago but it's okay): @anxiousotters @chiliger @bladelei @nobie @vytels
I'm once again doing the double wip, drawing and writing. First, drawing!
They're everything to me.
I don't have much explanation for this one, iykyk (and it's pretty obvious). My last line was shading on Cody's face. They're justâ
Yeah.
And writingggg. I just finished changing this 5k wip from past to present tense, but I did add a line to this scene. I love putting accurate math into my codywan teacher au fic. Precalc is so fun.
âSo the inverse of this function, if we swap out x and y and solve for x, comes out to be 2x plus four. Is that all making sense so far?â
He sees a variety of nods and decides to move on.
âNow, if we loop back to transformations,â he says as he grabs a whiteboard eraser. He swipes at the orange marker and it - doesnât erase. He scrubs at the marks and they just smudge, but donât vanish. âThis marker doesnât erase.â He chucks it into the trash can by the door.
âWhat, no, don't throw it out,â Waxer cries. âYou could give it to Mr Kenobi.â Other students begin calling out their agreement.
Cody glares at his students. âIf I give that marker to Mr Kenobi, when he discovers it doesnât erase, he will just write over it and it wonât be good for anyone.â Cody should know; Obi-Wan had accidentally written on a whiteboard at home with a permanent marker and, well. Trying to read three layers of his handwriting overlapped was a challenge to say the least.
Tagging.... okay, first of all, everyone who tagged me, uno reverse flip flop I'm tagging you all back. And also. @smoosey @chickengodnoodle @why-cant-turtles-fly @friendlyneighbourhoodelf @ferretrade @merlyn-bane consider yourselves all tagged
#some people dont love that i can draw and do math#but in my defense i cant finish projects on time#last line challenge#tag game#my art#my writing#my wip#wip#obi wan kenobi#commander cody#star wars fanart#star wars#codywan#digital art#fanart

If it helps at all I am incredible at maths and still struggle to follow patterns because my dumbass keeps buying patterns that have new stitches in them. The main thing in pretty much all fibre crafts is learning some kind of base stitch, repeating it, and then learning more stitches (no duh but that's the best way I can describle it (^_^")/) so if you manage that, you'll be okay. Thankfully most patterns I've encountered do provide brief tutorials for particularly complex stitches, and worst case, I've had to run to Youtube a few times.
Either way, maths is generally not as useful in crafting as I personally might wish it was ("âá´â). You got this!
.
#we found someone who's good at math!#I'm sorry to hear it didn't boost your fibre art skills as much as one would've hoped#answered#anonymous#if I'm being honest it does make me have a little bit more faith in myself and my math challenged brain so thank you for the confession

Amma was at an age where it was time for her to begin her education. Each afternoon, her mother would gather their study materials and they'd sit in the dining room together to learn. She enjoyed her penmanship and reading lessons the most.
However, mastering arithmetic was another story. Maeve was naturally good with numbers and had taught herself when she was just a young girl. But it did not seem that Amma had inherited that side of her.
More than once, Amma would lash out at her mother, shouting words like that of a sailor; something she no doubt picked up from Grandpa Murphy all those years ago. As punishment, her mother would send her to her room without supper, often leaving her to console herself.
