Here's the article. Fun facts:
this happened in 2016
guy is Italian born (white guy)
University of Pennsylvania professor
flight was local, not international
woman raised a stink prior to take off
flight crew told her to chill out
instead she declared a minor medical emergency
flight crew dutifully deplaned her
upon which she raised a stink with ground crew
flight was delayed 2+ hours because of her antics
unnamed woman flew out later that night
Bottom line: her weird bullshit behavior impacted dozens of people, but ultimately cost her nothing but a half-day's delay.
EVEN IF the guy had been wearing a turban and praying to Allah? That's perfectly fine.
EVEN IF instead of math he was writing a long letter in his native language, chuckling to himself about the evils of western capitalism? Perfectly fine.
There was zero threatening behavior. It was a local flight. What did she expect to happen?? She could have just sat in her seat, quivering in racist fear for the 1 hour and 18 minutes it would have lasted and inconvenienced nobody.
But instead she did THAT.
I want to know her name. So I can yell at her.

When I became a junior detective, I got assigned to work with Detective Math. Bob Math is a legend in the department: he uses arithmetic and problem solving to crack unusually number-specific cases. He's got a nemesis, of course, all the cool detectives back then did. Al Gebra kidnapped his wife once, tried to ransom her for a plane to Mexico. Math didn't stand for it: after figuring out the complex polynomial sequence that revealed the address of the shitty dockside warehouse he was renting, he subtracted a couple of Al's digits using a cleaver.
Thing is, he was all a fraud. One night, while we were riding from one case to another in his beat-to-shit Dodge Rampage, he told me that he never actually graduated high school. Back then you could get away with it, most of the detectives in his generation got there because they had read a book on detective skills by accident while their partner tortured an informant. He didn't know shit about math, in other words. One of the staff sergeants saw him (poorly) doing a Sudoku one day and decided he must be good at math, fast-tracked his detective exam, he was afraid to say no, so now he's "the detective who's good at arithmetic." Math wasn't even his name, either: he took his wife's name in the divorce to keep the scam going.
All this is prologue to the thing that really mattered: our big case. It seemed normal at first, a political corruption thing. "Sorry it's not a numbers racket! Haw!" shouted the chief as he handed out the assignments. Even so, there were still a lot of numbers.
It seemed like the Mayor Himself's Assistant Herself had been helping Herself to some dirty money from various car dealerships in exchange for a favourable ruling from the land zoning department. One of the spoiled rich kids that owned a Chevrolet dealership didn't get what he wanted out of the deal, and blew the whistle. Two days later, he was found dead in a truck stop bathroom, beat to death by a calculus textbook. Math's involved? Get me Bob Math, they no doubt thought. Detective Math was used to it, and he went about the usual pantomime in his role: carrying around an old Texas Instruments calculator with no batteries in it, interrupting meetings in the precinct to measure parts of the room with old bits of string, the whole schtick. Then we went down to City Hall to get a confession.
You guessed it: it was the mayor's assistant's teenage daughter, Becky-Sue, who did in Ted Chevrolet. She was the work-experience hire, selling Topkicks out of the back to her mom's friends, and finally had enough of him skimming her commission. Bob Math sighed as he realized that yet another murder case of his had involved percentage points of a dollar. He would have to put on his fake professor glasses to explain it to the media.
Even so, the press conference went great. The assembled reportage beamed with pride as they hung on every bullshit word of our imaginary arithmetic hero. Something didn't add up, though. I didn't notice that that cameraman in the back, who was missing a couple fingers, until it was too late.

It's interesting how many words are derived from Arabic, especially the ones that begin with "al" because in Arabic "al" means the, but it was included in the word when it was brought over.
So you have the gebra, the cohol, the batross, the kali, the aska, and so on.

Okay, let's take a break from the drama and have a minute of my headcanons on both of them.
"If Dyson and Tron had their own animals, then Dyson would have a cat, and Tron would have an owl (either a snowy owl or a barn owl)"
The artworks are very old, one from December and the other from September in general.

Headcanon is also based on the friendship between a barn owl named Gebra and a black cat named Fum. ^_^

Quinton, I simply have to know, it's been burning inside me since watching the top 10 Canceled Videos....What are some of your Hot-Daga-Hot-Takes?
Buzzfeed Unsolved's The Hotdaga primary devolves into an extended thesis about the morality of time travel. In the story, the hologram Maizey attempts to return to former events to save her fiance Gebra and correct their wedding's dour ending. But what we are constantly reminded of throughout the plot is that in this world, time travel is both selfish and selfless.
Think of Brandon, who returns from the end of Timeline A to stop the Witch apocalypse. In doing so, we witness the death of Baby Brandon of Timeline B, who becomes a ghost hell-bent on revenge against his older alternate-timeline counterpart.
The slow realization is that while Maizey might be able to create a new timeline, it will be a world she will never be able to experience. As the group get closer to achieving this goal, they are surrounded only by death and chaos. Our Maizey will never again see her wife, Gebra, who is dead and always will be. But she can create a new version of herself and Gebra, children of a splintering path unknown to the original world.
In a way, time travel is depicted as a sort of generational trauma; an alien guilt and pressure passed on from lives forgotten.
Also haha-funny fry man:

hey, it's been a minute, but let's talk about dark academia that isn't as euro-centric cause i'm like, really sick of it lmfao
(also, i'm white and live in the US! people who aren't white and who don't live in the us, lemme know if there's anything I'm missing!)
yeah yeah, dark academia, learn a dead language. latin is good because of science, but have you ever considered learning arabic? lots of our math stuff comes from arabic and the scholars in the baghdad house of wisdom (hell, al-gebra)
or maybe learn sanskrit! like latin is an "academic language" in the west, sanskrit has similar connotations in the indian subcontinent, with many historical records having been written in sanskrit
hell, if we're talking liturgical languages like latin, why not try church slavonic or coptic?
please stop romanticizing only european architecture. its beautiful and stunning, and so is architecture from all over the world! just as a couple examples:
st michaels golden-domed monestary
the bibi-khanym mosque in Uzbekistan
the tomb of askia in gao, mali
machu picchu
the iron pagoda in Kaifeng, china
etc etc etc!!
read academia from all over the world!! there are scholars in india and china and kazakhstan and south africa with wonderful writing about their own histories and cultures, you just have to do a little google scholar search to find it!
look at oral histories and folklore from all over the world! like blue from osp said, if people consider the witcher (which is just medieval poland) as exotic, what will they do when they read gilgamesh or the monkey king? look at the wonderful parallels between our bodies of folklore and mythology and oral history, like the floods in the bible and in gilgamesh!
that being said, look for sources written BY the people who are telling these stories. outsiders have their own biases and agendas, so read anything about different cultures than the author (especially ones that no longer exist) critically and biographically. looking at you, snorri
be more chill about people with bodies that you dont think are normal. be more chill about people with bodies that you don't think should be wearing DA clothing, or that you think are doing it wrong. they have every right to wear DA clothing, and they're doing it better than you are.
understand that if you're in a position to be enjoying DA, you're probably privileged. use that privilege for good, fight for what is right, and listen to marginalized voices. if you fuck up, acknowledge that you fucked up and work to right the wrong and not do it again, but don't take someone telling you you fucked up as a personal attack. it's not.
i acknowledge that the land i live on was originally stewarded and lived upon by a native american tribe that no longer exists because of european colonization. i acknowledge their (and the tribe that survivors of the colonization in my area went to)'s right to the land.
