All their masks are red during the flashback sequence in attack of the mousers that’s a reference to the mirage comics when they all wore the same color because historically ninjas had to wear the same colors to confuse their enemies
That's a cool callback
I must admit, I saw it more as they were just sepia toned, to indicate it was still Splinter telling his story, rather than actually happening right then and there. But it makes sense as a nod to the Mirage comics, too.
(Also, weirdly pale Mikey. I guess his regular skin tone looked strange under a sepia filter? 🤷)
I do prefer the colour coding, if I'm honest (even if it doesn't make sense from a disguise standpoint). The 87 and 03 turtles especially have a chronic case of Same Face Syndrome, so it can be hard to tell which turtle is which if they're not wearing their colours/carrying their weapons/talking.
I've really enjoyed Gaijin Goombah's YouTube series "Which Ninja", which explores popular depictions of shinobi and compares them to historical ninja techniques. It's fascinating to hear the (probable) real basis for a lot of ninja tropes, and I've learned a lot from his series.
I think Leo would definitely agree with him on one thing:

Bear in mind that this was produced when Rise had just been announced, so he makes a couple of guesses that ended up being incorrect. He's also a little hard on the 87 show, so take that into consideration if you want to watch the video or not.

Alright! So, I think I have the basics covered. Just need to check over things tomorrow, but I'm thinking I'll be good to go for my first ever time streaming tomorrow. I'm aiming for 4pm EST. That'll give me time to check over everything and also just chill beforehand. I've got an introduction slideshow prepared and also some tier lists picked out to do for fun after relating to Merlin, Dragon Age, and maybe a FFXIV one.

I knew eventually someone would say this. "Tariffs making anime merch too expensive? You should be buying American media merch anyway!" UGH😒
As someone who started as an American comic book collector (then later got into anime/manga), I understand the breadth that comics have now, even just from America. Dark Horse, Image, the indie scene, and web comics have grown to make American comic books much more than about superheroes. There's probably something out there for everyone.
But this isn't just about recommending someone add a new option to their reading list. This is a situation of telling people to give up what they love, what they've chosen for themselves, and exchanging it for someone else's prescribed list of limited options, for no reason.
(No, not just "no reason". We know these tariffs are for dumb reasons, extending all the way to evil reasons. But the unnecessariness of it all, is an extra sting. And if you think we're going to just quietly comply with an unnecessary sting…Well, this anger has to go somewhere...and I'm afraid it may go towards American comic books, or whatever is going to be the rationed replacement, during these arbitrary limitations. Give me back my freedom to fandom over what I want! Watch me use American fixation terms like "Freedom" to make my point about the hypocrisy of this nationalism.)
You can't just dictate what is someone's favorite character or favorite art style or favorite series! That's not how this works! People get emotionally attached to the art that they like! The art that speaks to them! Sometimes that's going to be stuff that isn't from one country or another. You don't know where or when you're going to run into an artwork that deeply resonates with you. But when you do, you're not going to care where it's from. (And sometimes you want an escape from your current culture, because sometimes your personal ideals resonate more with another culture's. I'm not just talking about the weebs who are tired of "the cult of individualism" and other American nationalistic ideas, but also Japanese geeks of American culture. I've always known about the Japanese fans of American cartoons, but this past week I saw a Japanese geek of cowboys. And this cross-cultural exchange should be allowed.) More importantly, emotional attachment to a resonant artwork is NOT a switch that can just be turned off. It is not a console of dials that you can manually adjust into any different direction you want. You can't dictate what someone loves.
(Maybe the most successful attempt is religion, telling everyone who their "blorbo" is. But even then, it has to be taught from a very young age and throughout an entire person's life, with their entire society/community reminding them, in every aspect of life, that EVERYTHING has to be about that "blorbo". Successfully dictating what someone should be obsessed about, has to be is a lifelong, systemic culture, almost cult-like. You can't just tell someone "You like American comic books now." Similarly, look at kids whose parents were super into a sports team or a music band, and got their kids into it. They had to start when their kids were YOUNG, and also keep up the fandom for the child, throughout their lives. Otherwise, you can't just tell someone, "Stop liking Gawr Gura and like American comic books instead".)
A pre-established fixation doesn't go away, on command. Many have tried. MANY HAVE FAILED. Telling an Vtuber fan to STOP liking Vtubers, and to shift that obsession into American comic books instead…? You may as well tell a baseball fan to STOP liking baseball, and get into coin collecting instead! (And I don't want to hear from you 90 year old grandpas who love both baseball and coin collecting. You know damn well this rant isn't about you.) All that's going to do is make them really sore at coin collecting. You tell a fan of anything else, to go like comic books instead---not in addition to, but INSTEAD---They're just going to learn to hate comic books, for forcibly replacing what they never stopped loving.
As someone who only fairly recently returned to American media fandoms (after only loving Japanese media for 20+ years), the tariffs are STILL kicking my ass. It doesn't matter that my last fandom and my current fandom was an American movie based on an American comic book, and that my current fandom is an American streaming series, streamed by an American company, and based on an American videogame. The tariffs are still a problem. Do you know who is making the best Arcane figures? The Japanese figure producer Good Smile Company. Now I have to worry about tariffs on my Good Smile Company preorder on their Pop Up Parade Viktor, doubling or tripling his price! It doesn't matter that the IP is American. And don't tell me to buy Arcane figures from American figure producers instead! Funko Pop Viktor????????? Listen. I'm not saying that Funko Pops are trash. I know lots of people like them. And I think they have their charm. But they're not really my thing, enough for me to want to spend money on. And don't you dare suggest to me, to wait for Hot Toys to eventually make some Arcane figures. NO. JUST NO. I wanted the nice, medium-price-ranged $58 Viktor figure. Not a $250+ Hot Toys! That price would be just as much out of reach for me, as any Japanese figure producer with tariffs slapped on. (And don't tell me to buy Sideshow's Cosbaby Arcane figures. That's not the stylized art style that I like. They don't even have Nendoroid's modular features. They don't even have Viktor or Jayce.) What, you want me to try Neca next? That's still not chibi, cute, or modular, like the Nendoroids that I'm actually passionate about collecting. Do you think I should try Hasbro? Is Playmate still around? Maybe I should hope and pray Mattel gets into Arcane action figures? I remember how clunky those were. And don't tell me to wait on McFarlane figures, because that's still not the art style I like!!!! I have a preference for a specific art style…The one from Good Smile Company…and I shouldn't have my freedom to collect my preferred art style, that was at a perfectly fine price range, shut down by a STUPID, ARBITRARY, UNNECESSARY, and actually-HARMFUL-to-the-whole-economy tariff! If these tariffs actually helped people or if an extra cost was because of reasonable shipping distance or other unavoidable logistics, then MAYBE I'd try to understand. (I often soothe myself about shipping costs by remembering that it helps give postal workers salaries.) But the fact that these damn tariffs are so unnecessary and harmful---!??????? What the actual fuck? No, I will not sit quietly and just buy from American producers instead. They don't even have what I want! And this abstinence isn't even for a good cause. Fuck these tariffs.
And fuck switching fandoms purely for the sake of these tariffs.
But if this loser is recommending American comic books because they "retain value and raise in value", then I don't expect them to understand the first thing about fandom. It's about loving art. It's about resonating with a story. It's about caring about characters. But clearly, this guy only thinks about money, the value of a thing only determined by finances, and not loving a thing because of what it is. Don't these "investors" realize that the only reason their "investments" have any value, is because people love that artwork???? I don't care how few copies of a Golden Age comic book there are. That rarity only matters because people care about that art. A pulp novel can be a rare copy but if there aren't people who love that pulp novel, then it's rarity doesn't matter. And love for art isn't something you can just shut off or instantly replace. We who love our fandoms/art are the reasons why those "investments" have any value, regardless of rarity. Because money isn't what's important to us. What's important are the ideas, feelings, and experiences we gain from interacting with an artwork. Anyone who doesn't understand that, probably has untrustworthy judgement about the real value of things, existence, being alive,...anything.
Go ahead and tell someone who got through trauma because of Batman (I can't remember the TED Talk or podcast I heard this from) to stop liking Batman, and tell them to replace their love of Batman with any random thing instead. Go ahead. See how well that works out.

✏️ New Drawing of in-universe Zeta and the main villain of Season 5! ✏️
Throughout Season 5, Zeta got laid off from his long-time day job, got fired from his next one after only three months, is still living with his parents, and is struggling to make ends meet helping ZetaPro with their music, events and promotions. While he and the others continue to spread kindness and support attending local and online idol events, Zeta gets invited to a special idol meeting from the founder and manager of Ougon Pro. "You'll show up...if you know what's good for you."
Manager Ougon (as he is called by his peers) seemed to be in good faith at first, but it turns out he only invited Zeta as a foil to make himself look good in front of Ougon Pro's idols and any aspiring idols they're looking to scout, looking down on Zeta and making him a subject of mockery. He wants to make it look like ZetaPro, with their "dull, gloomy, broke geek of a producer," is on the decline while Ougon Pro is becoming the real rising star of the community.
What Zeta doesn't know is that this guy is really Toshio Koganei (黄金井俊夫), the one who harassed Ai in high school, rose up the social ranks quickly since his father was the headmaster of the school (even becoming student council president during his 2nd year) using his positions to bully his opposition and try to get the indie idol club shut down so he could make Ai all his own. He dyed his hair darker from his usual blonde, cut it shorter and often wears a mask to cons so people won't know his true identity. He seems to have gotten his life back together after being transferred to Hokkaido by his own father, getting into the esteemed University of his choice, becoming a music composition major, and having a couple of his first songs become mega hits with some popular idols. But all of his efforts were not out of passion and love for music at all...purely to regain his "elite" status and use the idol music industry to find Ai and make her his big-ticket idol. With his new idols, Vtubers and all their combined connections, his sinister plans are about to take shape.
