Bubby I must know your drawing and/or colouring process! Could you share a speed paint please?

I usually photobash to make references, and then draw on top of them so I can check the ref easier (I don’t like glancing back and forth, you can see in the beginning where I draw over top of the reference but I don’t follow the lines of it - it’s mostly to help me with visualization!)

My process (for stuff that’s more than just a doodle) goes:

loosely sketch out the general shape

More firmed up sketch/cleaning up

Outline in black on layer below & fill in, use that as my ref layer so I don’t have to worry about colour getting outside the lines (makes it faster for me)

Block In real colours

Block in textures

(Optional)

Add shading (I cell shade, with some airbrushing for details like shines where necessary, and soft gradients)

Add bg (I usually find a free use image off google since I’m not a fan of drawing bgs (take too long I move FAST), and I add a gradient on top of the final art that’s a blurry vers of the bg, to make all the colours harmonize (it makes it look like the character is really in the space!)

you know, sometimes I forget that Twst is actually an isekai that starts with the protagonist getting run over by an inexplicable horse-drawn carriage. and every time I'm reminded is a delight because that's AMAZING.

also. look. okay. there's a lot of very fun stuff in the trailer but I am obsessed with that Crowley surprised pikachu face. me when I spend all my keys and gems literally hours before they announce overblot SSRs and drop the anime trailer:

#twisted wonderland #twst anime #<- gonna use that for anime stuff in case anyone wishes to filter it #this is the point where i once again have to admit that i have not really read the manga #(i've liked what i've seen but it's very hard for me to keep up with stuff a lot of the time)#(the anime may actually be easier for me to absorb it in :')#god i GOTTA draw the manga yuus #i kept meaning to when yuuna got revealed but i didn't get around to it before 7-13 ate my brain 😭#anyway the bits they chose for the trailer are pretty interesting to me!#like i think chances are good it was mostly from that one sequence because given the timeline #they probably don't have a ton of 100% finished post-comp footage yet so they probably just took what they have #but also i'm thinking back to how deliberately vague all the game promo stuff was #and...okay again i don't really know how they did it in the manga but i am reminded of how overblotting was actually like. a twist.#a twst twist #like we were introduced to it in the prologue with the mine phantom #but riddle's overblot was an actual SURPRISE and like. an instant reveal that okay THIS is what the story's gonna be about #so i'm just kinda wondering if the anime promos might also like...actively try not to spoil everything #or if they're gonna go full anime-intro 'here's all the super spoilery scenes you can expect to see :)'#basically is the marketing gonna skew towards new viewers or established fans. both valid i'm just curious!#also excuse me for a moment as i reveal myself as a hugely pretentious snob but #oh my god the backgrounds actually have some texture and shape and are taking style cues from the game backgrounds #oh my god the castle exterior actually looks illustrative and fantastic and isn't just a 3d model they plopped in #it's hard to tell at this point how consistent that'll be since most of the trailer is in the mirror chamber #but i'm just SO happy to see it! hopefully this means they weren't crunched to fuck and are able to really go ham #(the pre-isekai scenes all look more generic modern anime so like...is that a conscious artistic choice they made)#(because that would be incredible. holy shit.)

Like, not surprising to me that Bond is depressed/has depression moments - Fleming writes out Bond's penchant for catastrophizing in the last book - but ough that Fleming literally spells it right, right there. "when he was killed, as he KNEW he would be, before the statutory age of 45."

and then continuing the thing about how there are rly only 2 or 3 missions a year that call for his abilities. the grim, "at least 8. probably 16. perhaps 24. too many."

He, like Loelia Ponsonby, is trapped within the "perpetual concubinage to your King and Country" and, along with Loelia Ponsonby and the other girls, has been locked in his own version of a Cavell-Nightingale world "more securely into the company of the other girls at Headquarters and every day it seemed more difficult to betray by resignation the father-figure which The Service had become."

Unlike Loelia, who actually does think about but dismisses the idea of resigning, Bond doesn't even THINK of it. He just assumes it's inevitable that he will keep running on the job until his time runs out, one of the ways or the other.

tbh I couldn’t for the life of me pick a color palette I liked And Render it so I gave up on color. Enjoy the half assery.

Tbh I’ve just been call it Ithacan Naga, but it’s objectively it’s a mix of snake, owl/bird, and human. So 🤷.

Tbh the wings are supposed to be white/gray-brown, cause owls & Hermes, while his scales are supposed to be an oscillating scale from sea green-blue to purple-tinted gray. Uhm. Evidently that sorta didn’t happen but also did. So.

The purple/grayer scales are gonna be more around with the feathers and wings.

Those fin colors are. Too blue and too bright but I love the colors themselves so they’re staying for now.

Uhm. That’s it for now, ig. I’m sorta on a timer rn and I’m tired so <3

#Odysseus #epic the musical #Ithacan naga au #guess that’s what we’re calling it #an Ithacan naga would deadass just be an aquatic naga #I think #the feathers and wings are cause he’s Zeus/Hermes’ kin & Athena blessed #tbh the main reason i wanted to color at all is cause I wanted easier differentiation between… everything. and actually draw the scales.#so snakes have this extra (?) bone that connects their skull & jaw which is what lets them extend it. so. ody gets that here.#resting/casual naga ody is like. 7ish ft? anything intimindation or just rising usually reaches 11-12 ft. his full length js 20 ft #naga eyes don’t have any eyelids. it looks very odd on a human (unsettling)#owl eyes don’t really have visible white scelcra #or however you spell it #nor do snakes #unsettling #maybe I’ll caption this later but hhhhh #he’s sorta supposed to be an olive sea snake and fish owl #but fuck colors rn #uhm cause he’s aquatic I suppose he does have to make up with Poseidon… uhm let’s say after everything Seidon picks up a fuss and Athena #argues back n everything and it causes a reallllly big fuss so Zeus (+ others) eventually work smth out that basically amounts to:#Don’t fuckin bother each other (intentionally)#also endgame for naga ody (he can change back and forth dw) is that he gets used to it. he doesn’t advertise it cause he’s sneaky like that #(and after he gets over the self loathing). uhmmm. yeah. Tiny little pitcher!

I have absolutely no idea what this is good for, tbh. One serving of milk for your tea, if your mug isn't too big? Using as a vase for very small flowers? Just decoration? idk! Would love to hear if anyone has any ideas -- I use small bowls a lot, but I'm curious what people might use tiny pitchers for, if anything!

Anyway I was on a kick of making tiny things last month, so I ended up making a bunch of little bowls and jugs in both white and black clay. Expect more posts with 'em!

#birch-shark-art pots #pottery #ceramics #tiny pots #the thing about this black clay is it stains everything and gets everywhere and it's SUCH a pain to clean up #and it's pretty new at the studio and so we don't have a lot of test tiles and it's often kinda guesswork how glazes will look on it #unless you do your own test tile (this is a good habit I never do) or can look at a friend's piece that you like the look of #but also it's fun to work with and sometimes the glaze results are weird but sometimes they're SO cool #this is the same glaze I use on the outside of my fossil pots and you can see how different it looks!#(test tiles are basically little clay shapes -- not necessarily tile-shaped but often -- that you make and glaze and fire ahead of time)#(so you can see how a given glaze or glaze combo will look on a given clay body)#(the trouble is I'm a freewheeling experimenter making things up as I go)#(I'm a bad example kids don't be like me)#(anyway for all the other clays my studio has there are a bunch of existing test tiles on the wall to examine!)

Gopher has to push his halo supremacy agenda somehow #As for Lazuli #He and Robin barely survived the Stellaron crisis and their close proximity to it affected them #He gets golden feathers and Stellaron shaped halo.
