Zoomposium with Dr. Dr. Walter von Lucadou: "At the borders between physics and psychology - hauntings, ghosts and other physically phenomena"
Tumblr media
In this very exciting interview with Walter von Lucadou, this time we go to the extreme limits of physics but also of psychology, as our guest can also be seen as a border crosser between the two fields. First of all, here is an excerpt from Wikipedia.
Information about the person and his scientific research work
"Von Lucadou studied physics and psychology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and at the Freie Universität Berlin. After completing his diploma in physics, he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. at the University of Freiburg and a Dr. phil. at the Free University of Berlin. From 1977 to 1978, von Lucadou worked as a physicist at the Kiepenheuer Institute for Solar Physics in Freiburg. From 1985 to 1987 he was a guest lecturer at the Parapsychological Laboratory of the University of Utrecht.
Influenced by Hans Driesch's book "Parapsychology - The Science of Occult Apparitions" and his teacher Hans Bender [3], he initiated a research project that was carried out from September 1979 to April 1985 at the Chair of Psychology and Frontier Areas of Psychology at the Institute of Psychology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. In 1986, he completed his doctorate in psychology at the FU Berlin. In 1989, Lucadou founded the parapsychological advice center of the Scientific Society for the Advancement of Parapsychology in Freiburg, which he has headed ever since[4]. Fields of research Walter von Lucadou conducts research in the field of parapsychology. He is one of the editors of various specialist journals and also acted as scientific advisor for the six-part ARD documentary "Dimension PSI", which was broadcast in 2003. His main areas of research are systems theory and border areas of psychology." (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_von_Lucadou, formatting and links added) Admittedly, I was a little skeptical about the whole subject at first, as "hauntings, ghosts and other supernatural phenomena" had previously been more in the realm of esotericism for me. During the preparation for this interview and the associated research, however, it turned out that von Lucadou is anything but a "spiritual ghost hunter", but on the contrary has both feet firmly in the scientific camp and tends to use empirical methods to rationally try to fathom the physically explainable phenomena. I was therefore very excited about the interview with him and afterwards also very "enthusiastic" (bon mot ;-), as the conversation with him also brought to light a lot of new findings on topics such as "consciousness, embodiment, but also quantum physics", which I had not expected at all. But before I keep you in suspense, here are the interview questions from Axel Stöcker (die-grossen-fragen.com) and myself to give you a rough idea. Interview questions for Dr. Dr. Walter von Lucadou: "At the boundaries between physics and psychology" 1) Have you ever been called an "esoteric", "spiritualist" or something of this kind and, if so, what is your response?
2) How would you define the term "parapsychology"? 3) What progress have you seen in parapsychology in recent decades and how do you think the acceptance of parapsychology has developed in society on the one hand and in the scientific world on the other? To explain paranormal phenomena, you often fall back on the concept of "entanglement", a term that is also used in quantum theory. As far as we understand, the term as you use it goes back to C. G. Jung's "synchronicity" and describes a non-causal relationship between events. 4) Could you explain this complex term in more detail? 5) In your opinion, is the quantum-physical phenomenon of entanglement related to psychological processes in the macroscopic realm and, if so, how? 6) Hartmann Römer assumes a "generalized quantum theory" in this context. Do you already have empirical findings for this theory for the entanglement relationships in cases of "macroscopic undecidability"? You have been running the Parapsychological Counseling Center in Freiburg for 30 years. One of the best-known phenomena that you deal with there are those that are commonly referred to as "hauntings". However, instead of hauntings, you prefer to talk about an "embodiment disorder" of the person concerned.
7) Could you explain this term, perhaps using the example of a particularly spectacular "haunting" case? You also report cases of "hauntings" where things spontaneously start to burn or where stones fly through the air. 8) In your opinion, where does the energy required for such phenomena come from (keyword: "conservation of energy")? Another well-known paranormal phenomenon is the so-called "near-death experience (NDE)", the existence of which is now well documented (e.g. by Pim van Lommel, 2007). 9) How do you assess the state of research on this phenomenon? 10) In your opinion, is there an explanation for NDEs within the framework of evolutionary theory, which would imply that NDEs are associated with a selection advantage? 11) Do you see any alternative explanations? One problem with phenomena such as "spooks" or NDEs is that they cannot normally be reproduced under laboratory conditions ("displacement effect"). 12) Doesn't that make such phenomena "unscientific" by definition? Or would you say that the world view of the empirical natural sciences is incomplete in the sense that they cannot fully grasp such phenomena with their instruments? Why should beings so advanced in physics and engineering - crossing vast interstellar distances, walking like ghosts through walls - be so backward when it comes to biology? Why, if the aliens are trying to do their business in secret, wouldn't they perfectly expunge all memories of the abductions? Too hard for them to do? Why are the examining instruments macroscopic and so reminiscent of what can be found at the neighbourhood medical clinic? Why go to all the trouble of repeated sexual encounters between aliens and humans? Why not steal a few egg and sperm cells, read the full genetic code, and then manufacture as many copies as you like with whatever genetic variations happen to suit your fancy? Even we humans, who as yet cannot quickly cross interstellar space or slither through walls, are able to clone cells.

Xuefeng Preaching Tao (3)
Xuefeng
May 17, 2008
(Translation edited by Jiejing)
Tao is the consciousness of the Greatest Creator, the driving force behind the movement and transformation of all things in the universe. It is the lifeblood of the universe, it is nature, and the synthesis of all laws.
Tao possesses eight characteristics: holographic order, eternal reliability, instantaneous sensitivity and adaptability, transcendence over time and space with no interior or exterior, justice, immediacy, and illusory yet actual existence.
The Third Characteristic of Tao: instantaneous sensitivity and adaptability
Tao is the most subtle and sensitive "sensor" in the universe. It instantaneously senses, records, and responds to the slightest changes at any time, place, or thing, without the slightest delay or negligence. Whether it's the changes in a galaxy or the changes in a fundamental particle, whether its actions taken by humans or the fleeting thoughts in their minds, Tao accurately senses, records, and responds without missing a single microsecond.
You may deceive people and other living beings, but you cannot deceive Tao, for Tao resides within us. In every drop of our blood, in every cell, in every nerve pathway, in every breath, in every heartbeat, and in every thought, Tao is present, sensing and responding. Therefore, the more honest a person is, the more they align with the characteristics of Tao. From this, we realize that any deception ultimately deceives not others or other beings, but oneself. Inner prayers, acts of repentance, wishes, and blessings all carry weight, value, and significance.
Any disaster, whether it's a slip or a fall, a car accident, or an earthquake, can be prevented and avoided. As the ancient sages said, "A single thought can move ghosts and gods; a single action can change heaven and earth." The difference between calamity and fortune, sorrow and joy, lies in the slightest difference in thought. Whether a camel will be crushed depends on the last straw, and which way the balance tips depends on the final gram. This is because Tao possesses the characteristic of instantaneous sensitivity.
Tao is not dead, but alive. It possesses eternal reliability, yet it is not a rigid and unchanging machine; it is adaptable and can generate myriad phenomena. Wherever there is space, life, or changes, there are Tao’s methods. On a macroscopic level, Tao's principles are constant, while on a microscopic level, they are constantly changing, arising and ceasing in each moment. On a macroscopic scale, there are stages of birth, abiding, decay, and emptiness, while on a microscopic scale, these stages can be reversed. For every person, every day, there are countless thoughts and ideas, and in response, Tao generates various transformations. If you remain unchanged, Tao remains unchanged; if you change, Tao changes accordingly. With your ten thousand changes, Tao produces ten thousand corresponding transformations. This is the instantaneous sensitivity and adaptability of Tao, always remaining unchanging amidst change, changing amidst the unchanging, eternally one yet endlessly unpredictable and mysterious. This is why it is said that “the Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao."
Having understood Tao's characteristic of instantaneous sensitivity and adaptability, we know how to navigate our life's journey. We can skillfully pursue our desires without overstepping boundaries, thus safely and smoothly arriving at the life space we yearn for.
For example, since Tao exhibits eternal reliability, our ideals, beliefs, and pursuits must also be steadfast and reliable. We cannot be fickle, changing our minds frequently, or we will never reach our ultimate ideals. However, because Tao also demonstrates instantaneous sensitivity and adaptability, we must be flexible on our journey through life. We cannot rigidly adhere to fixed rules or cling to dogma. We must be like eagles hunting rabbits: wherever the rabbit runs, we must flap our wings accordingly. When we reach the riverbank, if there's no bridge, we must quickly find a boat to cross; if there's no boat, we must paddle ourselves, or if we cannot swim, we should practice swimming first. If necessary, we must find a piece of wood to help us cross the river. In short, we cannot simply wait passively.
In times of danger, it is essential to pray and seek help from the Greatest Creator promptly because Tao possesses the characteristic of instantaneous sensitivity. Our inner thoughts and activities are instantly perceived by the Greatest Creator, who will then take corresponding protective measures in the nick of time. When faced with a dilemma, promptly share your best wishes with the Greatest Creator and then entrust your life to Him, letting Tao manage your life. Then, go with the flow, act according to your nature, take advantage of opportunities that arise, and you will not go wrong.
When facing decisions, it's crucial to remain calm and not hastily make choices. Avoid harboring a mentality of taking chances or attempting to deceive or lie. "Look up three feet, you will find divinity" – in reality, these divine entities are within us. A slight misstep can lead to drastic consequences. “In the darkness, one may harbor ill intentions, but the eyes of the divine are as bright as lightning,” and “To avoid misfortune in the visible world, do not offend the invisible.” The “invisible” refers to our inner world, which is unseen by others. If we commit wrongdoings in our inner world, there will be no good outcomes under the bright light of day. Don't assume that unethical actions from yesterday will go unpunished today and deceive yourself into believing you can get away with it. In reality, you are only deceiving yourself. When the time comes, you will deeply regret it because Tao possesses the characteristic of instantaneous sensitivity. It meticulously records all our thoughts and actions, accumulating them for change. When this accumulation reaches a saturation point, even the slightest change will trigger unforeseen events instantaneously. This is determined by Tao's holographic characteristic.
In summary, Tao manages, supervises, coordinates, and responds to us at all times and in all places. This is the instantaneous sensitivity and adaptability of Tao.

Ghosts and Quantum Physics
At the intriguing but extremely speculative crossroads of ghosts and quantum physics, science and the paranormal appear to merge. Ghosts, which are commonly believed to be the spirits of the dead, have long played a prominent role in cultural narratives and human folklore. Contrarily, quantum physics explores the basic ideas guiding particles' microscopic activity, frequently uncovering events that contradict our preconceived notions about reality. One of the most fascinating aspects of quantum physics is the concept of superposition, which permits particles to exist in multiple states simultaneously until they undergo measurement. As a result of this concept, some have theorized that quantum physics could provide a framework for comprehending paranormal experiences. If particles can be somewhere at once, for example, is it possible that awareness or energy may also exist in a similar form, enabling the manifestations that we see as ghosts?
Tumblr media
Another quantum concept that frequently comes up in these conversations is entanglement, where particles link and instantly affect each other regardless of distance. This phenomenon has sparked the theory that energy or information could persist in connecting across multiple planes of existence, potentially explaining residual hauntings or the continuous presence of spirits in specific locations. It's crucial to remember that these interpretations are purely theoretical and unsupported by actual data. Various interpretations of quantum mechanics suggest the existence of parallel universes or the multiverse, adding another dimension to the discussion. It is possible, albeit totally hypothetical, that what we understand as ghosts could actually be creatures or energy from other realities that cross with our own. This idea fits well with other paranormal ideas that propose that ghosts are not deceased people's spirits but rather entities from alternate timelines or dimensions that momentarily enter our reality. The scientific community is often skeptical of applying quantum physics to paranormal events, despite these fascinating similarities. Even though it seems strange and counterintuitive, quantum physics deals with subatomic particles; its ideas do not apply to the macroscopic world, which is where ghost experiences are reported. The transition from quantum activity to paranormal events is frequently fraught with speculation and lacks strong scientific support. Furthermore, psychological, environmental, or physical reasons account for the majority of reported ghost encounters. For instance, studies have shown that infrasound, electromagnetic fields, and sleep paralysis can cause experiences that individuals may mistake for paranormal ones. These explanations offer a more credible account of ghost sightings and hauntings since they are based on accepted scientific concepts.
Tumblr media
However, the study of ghosts through the prism of quantum physics never fails to pique curiosity. It represents a larger human effort to make sense of the unknown and bring scientific explanations for life's mysteries together. Even though quantum mechanics is not now accepted by science as a viable explanation for ghostly events, the conversation between these two fields demonstrates the everlasting wonder and curiosity that fuel both scientific and paranormal research. Ultimately, the connection between ghosts and quantum physics is still a matter of conjecture, more pertaining to philosophical and creative inquiry than actual scientific study. It emphasizes our need to make sense of the mysteries around us, whether by applying the exacting techniques of science or the intricate web of superstitious beliefs and folklore.

Genghis Khan bloomed and grew freedom from the hull of the Marzanna. Sy had to appreciate the view. He'd rather have appreciated it inside, somewhere at least a kilometer way, preferably more, but he recognized the rarity of this event. Inside the Marzanna, Vanya Steyr watched in the form of numerical columns, knowing nothing of the shape of things, only interested in measuring threat against vulnerability. They felt confidence in the Marzanna.
Maryam did not see anything, because the Marzanna and Genghis Khan were out of view of the portholes. She was more concerned with attempting to stop Serah from bleeding and recovering power to the Lev Nitoburg before everyone died.
The thorns, or branches, tendrils of Genghis Khan curled and grew and pushed outward both fore and aft as it gained distance from the Marzanna. It almost seemed to be unraveling as it grew, its trunk rolling slowly while new branches peeled away, yet no shorter with each new extension. The branches unwound into smaller and longer tendrils. Its skin grew spines of glass. Flat spades opened along all of the branches. Genghis Khan was shot through with color and light, static and emptiness, sound and electricity and magnetic attraction fused to its body. The long scar on its trunk glowed, and lightning periodically shot from its edge to the dark vortex at its center.
Something happened to one of the system drives on the Marzanna. It cracked along its massive housing, burst blue and orange flares along the busted seam. Thousands of crystal stars, macroscopic thin vanes of precious metals, and purified elemental filaments drifted in fragments from the flat drive face.
Laika did not see the shape of GK around her, but felt it with the ghosts racing between her psyche and all the delicate new limbs of matter or energy. The tiniest glimmer in the eye of her sworn goddess sat in the heart of Genghis Khan, binding pilot and ship and ghosts as one. As soon as they were far enough away, Laika and GK reached out with their souls and pulled open the crack in the drive. Elated, free.
"Don't just sit there," Steyr yelled over the general fleet channel. "Blow them out of the stars! Finish them!" They flushed, their skin crawled with frustration and their legs shook. They were annoyed with their own words even while they spoke the perfectly necessary orders. They took a calming breath before speaking to the bridge crew. "Bring the focus plates into position to disable Charybdis. We'll just have to recover what we can from scraps."
The partially repaired plates at the fore of the Marzanna still left a red-blue wake as it moved. Dozens of ships with smaller sysdrive weapons put GK on lock. Laika released a breath and GK dropped faster than human sight. It was adjacent to the Marazanna one blink, then far outside the sphere of ships surrounding it, several of them neatly moved aside to allow passage. GK directed an open transmission to the Marzanna for Laika, before they moved again, placing the death ship between themselves and the rest of the fleet which had been trying to lock them up again.
The earth civ ships were painfully slow, Laika thought. Or perhaps it was something GK was feeling. She rolled, spreading GK's leaves out and trying a magnetic barrier, before speaking. "Hey, uh. You on the big ship thing. Listen, I'm not good at speaking or anything."
"They are attempting to reply to you," GK noted. "It primarily consists of threats and proposals of our unconditional surrender."
"Ew," Laika made a face. "Knock it off, I'm talking. Or... whatever." They moved again, directly in front of the focus plates. They burst the artificial gravity well. "Listen if you want. Like, I just want you to know, y'know, I could have done worse. I'm not gonna mess up your gravity thing or your other stuff. Just remember that, okay? We did this the nice way."
Genghis Khan slipped out of the Marzanna's reach.
"Follow them, track that jump." Steyr was close to shouting again.
Someone on navigation said, "It wasn't a system transfer. They're in system just..." Steyr's eyes bored into him. "... just far away," he finished.
"Then get a target on them, and-" All monitors on the bridge, the whole ship, rolled into static, flickered, and brought up a half-present face of some indeterminate gender and general origin.
It spoke with fervent cheer. "Seek the distance between a world infinite to sight the space eternal! Vastness of empty space calls the singular oscillating of the dying star to form the maps of all roads?"
"What," said Vanya Steyer, "the fuck is this."
Laika, Genghis Kahn, and everyone else watched the Marzanna vanish abruptly.
"Welp." Laika dusted off her paws. "We should go get everyone."
Genghis Khan began a general channel broadcast. "Attention hostile fleet. Depart this system, surrender your vessels, or be destroyed without additional warning."
Laika was pleased to see most of them make the system transfer, and the few remaining didn't make any trouble while she collected the crew in their envirosuits.
"Crew aboard the Marzanna experienced extraction," GK observed.
"Yeah," Laika replied. It was somehow twice as hard to pick up little tiny people than dodge warships.
"But not very many," GK added. "It is likely that many more would have been- would have died if we proceeded with a more efficient method of removing pursuit."
She nodded. "Probably so." Laika sagged a little on the controls and shook her head, straightened back up. "Well maybe it'll be worth it. All the data went out. With the wars and genocides and shit."
"Perhaps," GK said.

a story by @rox-and-prose and @cipheramnesia
Part 8: Vigil
"I am not prone to long speeches," Vanya Steyr had said, welcoming the incoming new hires to the G1 Major Treaty Enforcement Central orientation day. Maryam had thought they seemed very impressive, perhaps evem dangerous.
"You will learn all the information you need to start your jobs here. You will not learn one right way to do your jobs until you are in the middle of them." They had stood at the front of a sizable auditorium, and had not used any amplification. Maryam remembered even after the subsequent weeks of stultifying bureaucratic form memorization and procedural filing specific to Major Treaties, the departments, grades, fire safety, system safety, and so on.
Years of experience, climbing the ranks, passing pilot exams and system plotting. All of it each time seemed like the most information she could hope to retain, Vanya stuck with her. "When you are doing this work, at all levels," they said, "remember why we have major treaties. They are to protect us, earth and her civilization, wherever we may find ourselves. We protect ourselves from destroying ourselves, because it is our nature."
That was the most of Vany Steyr she had ever seen outside of the odd sysnet photo or short interview up until they took a personal interest in the Charybdis WMD case. Following Steyr's system jumps in the Marzanna, a ship that by what few specs she'd had the chance to glimpse was perhaps hundreds or thousands of times more dangerous than any WMD case she'd worked or reviewed, she worried over "it is our nature."
Maryam had always operated with the consideration that it was in the nature of everyone from earth civilization to protect themselves. This idea had given her comfort and guidance in her cases and the vast organized network of central bureaucracy. The scope of civilization, she sometimes pretended, was possible to see as one vastly extended process to keep its many inhabitants or societies safe. It drove fear and love and hate and hope and all those things.
She knew it was an oversimplification, but it gave her a place to start when she wasn't sure. The one possibility she'd never entertained until now was that Steyr had never meant it was in the nature of civilization to protect itself.
Trevor remained intensely focused in pulling the Lev Nitoburg off the map for the Marzanna's deep spacers. Maryam had no idea what was ever going on with the woman. Serah looked worried, maybe a little bit pale. It had been one thing to figure out Kan was spying for the boss, quite another to decide the boss was violating the most basic rule in civilation, while it happened right in front of their eyes.
Minutes ticked away between the system resolutions. Serah caught Maryam looking and gave a sick smile. She got up and went back to Serah, crouching by her chair. "Serah," she said.
"Hey," Serah said.
"There is no need worry so dearly," Maryam said. "This is the type of case we have all the time. It is nothing, a piece of cake."
"You're awful at lying."
"I am. But you have seen more of the Marzanna specifications than myself. Would you consider it falling within regulations? Would the Lev Nitoburg?"
"No... and... it's pushing it, toeing the letter of the treaty..."
"So it goes," Maryam said. "I only know I am of the belief that we owe it to our civilization to safeguard the treaty against WMD's, even if they are of our own invention."
"You're probably right." Serah looked at her screen. "Did you know that thing can project an artificial stellar gravity well?"
"I had some sense but I did not realize the extent of it."
"It could probably pull some planets apart. Maybe even destroy a sun, if you used it right." Serah's face was grim.
Maryam took one of Serah's hands in two of hers. Serah squeezed. "We are making the right choice." She squeezed back.
"We gotta be. Nothing but the right choice could ever feel this dumb."

please share the propaganda (pdfs)
i can share some very fun scholarship but if you want the actual pdfs please message me not on anon bcs im not gonna just. link to my raw google drive account like that. anyway. this is not a starter bibliography for lucan this is just Stuff I Vibe With that i happen to think of within the next few minutes. to the surprise of absolutely nobody that means there's gonna be ghost stuff and history stuff and not much else:
The Importance of Being Julia: Civil War, Historical Revision and the Mutable Past in Lucan's Pharsalia - "The anarchy of the escalating Roman civil war on earth has seeped into the Underworld, undermining its place as the immutable physical manifestation of historical assessment and remembrance of individual lives." it's literally so good and also it has julia caesaris' sexy evil ghost. she's only in one (1) scene in the whole poem but her influence is enormous and also i am in love with her
Unburied Past: Lucan’s Bellum ciuile - "On a macroscopic and metapoetic level Lucan’s epic reads rather like a funeral monument or epitaph for the death of Rome’s res publica. [...] despite the almost over-whelming emphasis in the Bellum ciuile on shattered and fractured ‘bodies’, Lucan everywhere delays, avoids, or even reverses the final death-blow."
The Dead and their Ghosts in the Bellum Civile: Lucan’s Visions of History - "As the typical pattern established by the Bellum Civile has been forgetfulness and contempt for the dead rather than the respectful preservation of its memory, the narrator’s claim that he can establish legacies for the deceased through his poem inevitably becomes subject to question."
Lucan's "Auctor Vix Fidelis" - "the readers within Lucan's text suggest that the significance of narration lies specifically in its failure to convince" i am gluing this entire paper to ideology in cold blood by shadi bartch and then marrying it. speaking of which
Ideology in Cold Blood: A Reading of Lucan's Civil War - i can't even pick a quote but i also can't make this post w/out recommending this. it's the first scholarship on lucan i ever read! foundational texts! reading this feels like rotating a five dimensional cube in my mind

I know this is random, but I'd love to know more about your ocs from s/n!! (That is where the Cynosure and Samira are from, right? What you mentioned on Artfight sounded sooo interesting)
YES OF COURSE!!!!! my guys who are so special to me.....
signal to noise is a post-post apocalyptic story about a world built in the aftermath of an apocalyptic event that caused quantum rules to begin working on a macroscopic scale. in the 200 years since this event, society on the continent of the verge (what was once the eastern united states) has rebuilt itself into something both familiar and unrecognizable, and they've learned to live with the constant uncertainty of their world - the quantum storms, the collisions with other dimensions, the towns on the horizon that appear and disappear at will are all a part of life for the people of the verge and it's cities.
one way that the world has been able to rebuild is with the help of enormous and mysterious towers of black rock - anti-quantum anomalies called spires. much like how a quantum system collapses into a single outcome when observed, if someone is stationed at the top of a spire and 'observes' the area around it, quantum instabilities are much rarer. cities are built in the shadows of these spires, but many people have forgotten why they work, or how, or the fact that there are people at the top of them - which means that when spires start going offline, no one really knows what to do.
samira hashemi is one of these observers, who has climbed down from her spire for the first time in years in an attempt to find what is bringing the towers offline and how to stop it. in her time as an observer, she's developed a slew of unique technology looking out for some unknown signal from another world, and in her mysterious search she believes she's heard a transmission from the end of this world instead. even though she knows next to nothing about what the world beyond her tower is like, shes determined to follow this signal and figure out how to put a stop to the end of the world.
she's joined on her journey by jackie delco - a standoffish person who refuses to elaborate on their past and seems to not particularly want to save the world - and twin sisters melanie and emily castenada, who are cartographers (an especially important and particularly dangerous job in this constantly changing world) that seem to always be at odds with each other. this group is a mess of horrid parallels, miscommunication, goals that are at odds with each other, misplaced idol worship, and, overall, a deep undercurrent of trust - they have to be able to rely on each other to stay safe in this world.
(the cynosure, because you mentioned them, is a constant presence in the background that almost never makes themself known. they're haunting sam and sam knows it, but refuses to acknowledge it. there are a lot of characters that haunt the story in this way - eric bell, who discovered the spires, the mysterious figure known only as feynman, an unnamed caver who just followed a call, samira's younger sister and her older sister, the faceless exemplar, the people jackie once knew that they never talk about, emily and mel's father...the list goes on. this story is HAUNTED haunted.)
its a lot about how much your past and old grief continues to follow you and how much it gets in the way, and how you respond to the end of the world, and cities that are alive, and reopening old wounds, and empty fields, and radio, and being doomed to always make the same mistakes, and finding beauty despite everything, and the horrors of being a narrator, and (most of all) the sheer amount of love there is in the world. im currently (slowly) drafting a short prequel comic called pepper's ghost (set on the west coast, with a different pair of observers), but i hope (fingers crossed) to start drafting and publishing this as a webcomic sometime within the year!!!
hope i answered your question, and if i didnt i will ALWAYS talk about my guys!!! theres also some more information on this page and in the tag here. thank youuuu <33

Other cyberpunk monster AUs
Dracula or vampires in general have a nanobot plague that infects their blood and develops macroscopic cybernetics which allow the draining of human blood. I’m thinking an array of syringes linking back into the vampire’s bloodstream, and their blood is seething with dark metal nanobots.
Headless horseman that has transferred their brain and neural pathways into their chest, with their head being an optional and detachable structure, with sensory information being both wirelessly transmitted back, and recurved through torso mounted equipment.
Werewolves whose cybernetics are capable of shifting into a more feral form, but they’ve contracted malware that forces this shift based on a lunar criteria. Dumps drugs into their system causing aggression and mindless hunger.
Zombies or revenants that are whole dead bodies puppeted by exosuits in a hivemind. Slack jawed, they move in jerking twitches that sometimes break their bones as they scramble after prey, eyes glowing with hijacked optic programs. Programmed to attack anything that moves, and the fallen are latched onto by new exosuits that are dispersed among the robotically undead horde.
Dopplegangers with near completely adjustable bodies and almost amorphous features in how malleable their face is. Pure form have totally smooth, mirrored faces and skin. Immensely strong and naturally tall, delight in deception and identity crimes for the sake of it.
Digital ghosts that cause malfunctions and code corruptions by their presence, or that manifest magnetic disturbances or ball lightning. Hijack widespread hologram systems to appear in a variety of terrifying projections and neon laced horrors.
Acquatically endowed cyborgs in the labyrinthine mega sewers of the giant cities. Hunt vermin and waste workers with sharp metal teeth and scuttle through the water like mechanical crustaceans or terrifying cybernetic reptiles. Filter water through bulky oxygen scrubbers shoved into their chest cavity, and have lidless mutated eyes sealed behind waterproof contacts.
Feel free to add more~!

Basilisk, ghost, bogeyman
basilisk: do you find eye contact uncomfortable?
terribly! too intimate. i feel like i am overstepping a boundary when i look into someone's eyes.
ghost: do you believe in life after death?
in a way. i believe in rot, and i believe in ghosts. i don't presume to know whether our individual consciousnesses persist after death, but i believe in the billions of microscopic (and if we're lucky, macroscopic) organisms that will feed off our bodies when we die, and i believe that grief can be made physical. a hole torn in reality where a person used to be, filled up with memories and static and longing. things like that can grow to live beyond the griever, i think. they take on a life of their own.
bogeyman: what were you afraid of as a child?
not much! i was a remarkably fearless child. i did used to be afraid that the ancient egyptian funerary god, Anubis, lived in the closet in my living room, though. when i was six or seven i had nightmares that he came out at night to take the souls of my stuffed animals.

This is the introduction to a story I am writing for my IBDP CAS Big Project. Constructive Criticism would be appreciated, but please be nice, this is the first piece of writing I will be putting online. This project will be ongoing for at least a few months.
Introduction
The golden light trailed fingers over the tips of amber spires, glancing off of glass and curved metal and delicate, filigree structures. A glow spread over the silent city, warmth coating the ground and hanging buildings, turning the long-settled dust silver in the dawn.
The dust was swept up in eddies and swirls of excitement in the force of a starship's thrusters, sending glittering sparks flying across planes turned beaten silver and struts gilded with liquid beauty under the sunslight. The starship dropped to the ground with a gentle thud and came to a standstill. A hatch slowly lowered itself from the belly of the semi-spherical capsule and two figures appeared at the end, the first visitors to this alien world in living memory.
BAM! “Hissssgh!” an angry hiss escaped the pores of the arthropod’s abdomen as his body hit the floor of the abandoned spaceport, legs nearly buckling from the effort of keeping upright. His companion roughly shoved his body aside with one foreleg as he stalked down the ramp, past where he had pushed his friend, striding further into the hanger with a disgruntled whistle.
“Stop here, Hiinto!” he mocked, irritation coating every hissing syllable as he pulled a satchel off over his thorax, gesturing wildly with his second pair of hind legs as he did so. “I’m sure there’ll be some people worth trading with here, sssee, ttthhey even hhhave a ssspaceport!” he continued, losing control of his consonants in his frustration.
His companion merely eyed him sullenly with his lamp-like gaze and said nothing. There was nothing to say when Hiinto got like this, and the planet really did look developed from above. Now that they were at surface-level though, it was obvious that something was very wrong. There were no noises. None. Not even the sounds of wildlife reclaiming an abandoned city broke a silence so dense it couldn’t even be called eerie, just oppressive and deafening enough that even Hiinto’s ranting was forced to end quickly, the weight of the noiselessness pressing down on him and locking the words back into his throat so as not to disturb the endless peace
The two traders gravitated towards each other as they wove through the sweeping tunnels of the abandoned spaceport, pearlescent and gleaming, throwing up the silver dust that lay, ankle-deep, on every surface. There were still no signs of life, or even death – no children running through the hallways and waiting rooms with weary parents having given up chasing them dozing in the chairs, no skeletons lounging on the benches or leaning up against the walls. There was no outward sign of what could have happened here, just the silence, the dust and the shell of a society that just seemed to have vanished.
The promenade they eventually exited onto was wide and impossibly long, stretching as far as the eye could see both left and right, with a balustrade held up by elegant, twisting columns. The whole structure was carved of the pure, white quartz of the mountainside they were emerging from and hung over the most elegant city that either trader had ever even dreamed of. The buildings were formed of smooth, curving planes and twisting helixes that blended seamlessly with the ground and one another, none of the mismatching peaks and flat roofs of most settlements. Every colour complimented and enhanced the building, the street, the city as a whole, a perfectly balanced palate of gold and silver and white and bronze stretching so far as to be beyond the limit of the imagination. An impossibly massive dome arched far above their heads, shielding the city from the elements and casting beams of light onto to scene through its soap-bubble exterior. Hiinto and Kanttho’s minds were filled with awe and respect for the architects of such a place, and terror for what could have brought such a people down.
No flaws marred the perfection of the silent city apart from the piles of dust that coated everything, their irregularity shocking against the uniform perfection of their surroundings. The dust piled heavier in some places, towering above head-height, and fell away sharply to patches of golden floor left completely clear of the glittering substance. It did not look as if it belonged here, in this perfect place, this paradise surely inhabited by a race so noble and brilliant as to be considered angels in the minds of others when considering their achievements. Kanttho found himself irrationally angry at whoever had caused it to be there, and bent to the floor in a flurry of movement, scooping some of the dust into his scanner-pouch in an attempt to track the origin of the culprits. His sharp movement caused flurries of the dust to swirl into the air, making Hiinto cough roughly as he inhaled the sharp larger pieces in his shock.
A tone rang out through the coughing, slicing through the silence before it could completely cover them again. A robotic tone followed.
“Analysis no.4,783. Two main components identified. First substance identified as organic material, most likely animal remains. Second substance is a form of airborne biological compound that appears to react with the structured identified in the first substance, and break them down on a macroscopic level whilst leaving individual cells and DNA intact. Likely classification – organic remains of an animal killed by a biological weapon.”
Kanttho froze, the anger draining out of him in seconds to be replaced by swiftly-growing horror. His primary stomach rolled, nutri-block threatening to make a reappearance as the remains of what could only be the people of this city continued to shift against his ankles. The ghosts of these incredible engineers seemed to be clutching at his feet, holding him rooted in place when all he wanted to do was turn tail and run. Run so far away that the ghosts could not find him and the beauty could not haunt his dreams. But he couldn’t move, could barely even think around the terror, the horror, the grief for the death of a civilisation so bright and wonderful. He turned his head and his stomach churned again, remembering the even thickness of the dust inside the spaceport, the number of people who must have died moving, trying to escape, in order to create that even layer, and his limbs finally started to cooperate.
He turned tail and bolted, ghosts howling at his heels, faces of beautiful creatures forming out of their swirling remains as he turned and ran, Hiinto hot on his heels. He galloped blindly through terminal after terminal, room after room, children and adults and adolescents and the elderly flashing through his mind as the irregularities began to stand out and become families embracing, the deeper piles on the steps of spacecraft becoming a desperate cram for shelter, for survival, the lights in that room becoming...
The what?
Hiinto hissed in shock and fear, crashing into the back of Kanttho’s abdomen at the sudden pause, but he saw it too – the light shining from the tiny space near the back of a room, half coated in a pile of dust that made their stomach turn at the image of people lying over their family or pets in a futile attempt to protect them. They crept forwards, the residual fear making their hearts beat double-time in their thoraxes, and peered into the class capsule, shot through with the ever-present gold of the buildings. Their breaths caught in their throats. A small figure lay, sleeping peacefully, cocooned in layers upon layers of wire and mesh and gel – impossibly, undeniably alive.
The two gaped at one another, at the pod, at the figure within. Their usual gruff common sense and rationally had been ripped out by awe and shot out of existence by fear. This shock had burnt the tattered remains to cinders and blown them off on the winds of hope. They stared around, at the ground, at each other, at the door, as a determination began to brew as a shadow within the shock. They nodded in unison.
The scavenger ship ‘Unstoppable 2’ tore away from the ghost-like planet like a bat out of hell. Or, perhaps, a sinner out of heaven. Its cargo was far from what had been expected upon landing – two scavengers, changed for the rest of their existence, the news of beauty and terror they carried, and one small stasis pod carrying the last member of a species that seemed to have managed to create utopia without their own imperfections destroying it.

*COUGHS VIOLENTLY* OKAY SO let me provide my potential explanation for everything that's happened so far.
(It was then she realized smoking a blunt prior to making this post was a terrible idea. Nevertheless shee persisted)
The study of physics is divided into several subfields, though they are all studies of the direct consequences of how nature works. For example quantum mechanics looks a hell of a lot different from classical mechanics, but at the very base level everything that we observe happening on macroscopic levels is a result of both, we're just observing things on different levels.
The very base answer to "why?" is "nature deems it so". But that doesn't mean we can't break the ways nature deems things so into components. That's how we get the study of thermodynamics.
Thermodynamics comes with some laws that must be abided by, as with every other subfield of physics. The one we care about is the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that the amount of a quantity called entropy is ever increasing in the universe. While this is a very simplistic definition, entropy can be characterized as disorder. The best way I can think to describe what exacrly that means in terms of the universe is with heat death theory: after a very very very large amount of time, long after our life times and long even after the life time of our sun, solar system, galaxy, and so on, the universe will experience heat death. What that means is that no thermodynamic processes can continue to occur, because all matter will be reduced to its elementary particles that will honestly literally just be vibing. None of them will experience any forces that cause them to organize into larger structures anymore, because they will have collectively achieved a state of maximum entropy.
A curveball that this law throws at us, though, is that the disorder doesn't happen in a manner we can observe as "things becoming more disordered," at least not in this point in the lifetime of the universe. In fact, on earth we have observed a process which appears to make living creatures MORE ordered: evolution. This strange quantity is... strange. And works in very strange ways.
So strange, that I believe we actually know even less about entropy as a quantity than we initially thought we did, which was already Close To Nothing.
Perhaps entropy can manifest in ways we can observe after all. There are no rules, other than the Second Law, that dictate what exactly entropy DOES. And I think it's very arrogant of us to assume that it doesn't do whatever it wants other than that. Including manifest as objects or entities.
I think That Bastard is a manifestation of entropy somehow. There exists no proof that entropy itself cannot organize into structures of its own. And if one considers that we humans arose in a system of increasing entropy despite being "more ordered" creatures than, say, the primordial soup all life is said to come from...
Why can't something like a ghost or a demon?

A Famous Case of Truly Frightening Entities
Hauntings truly run the spectrum of the weird. You have some that merely involve moving objects, others that entail roving apparitions of some type, and still other more malevolent case that have reports of physical violence and assault revolving about them. Then you have the truly frightening accounts that involve all of the above. One of the most terrifying hauntings in history seems to have settled down on one very unfortunate family in the 1970s, involving a group of specters with an inclination for violence, mayhem, and even rape, and which would go on to become one of the most ghastly incidents of paranormal activity on record.
The story of one of the most frightening and violent hauntings of all time starts in 1974, with a single mother by the name of Doris Bither, who lived in in Culver City, California, with her four children. The family had moved here from Santa Monica in order to try and start a new life after a string of abusive relationships that Doris had been in, and to try and escape her demon of alcoholism. It was a rough time of things, as Doris had barely enough to raise her four children, all born of different fathers, and they were a broken family living in dirt poor conditions, but things would soon get worse still, when something decidedly dark and paranormal came calling.
It started rather creepily enough, with an elderly woman who came over one day shortly after they had moved in to tell Doris out of the blue that she had once lived in the home and that it was evil, before wandering off to never be seen again. So far, so eerie, but it would prove to be almost prophetic. Not long after this, there would be instances of classic poltergeist activity, such as lights turning on and off, objects moving on their own, and anomalous noises, all of which were witnessed by all of the family members. Then things graduated to the more frightening when apparitions would start appearing.
At first it was just glimpses, a shadow figure moving across the living room here, a movement in the periphery of the vision there, but it got steadily more intense, and even neighbors began seeing these things around the house. The figures that were seen started to take shape, appearing as fog-like humanoid shapes that would move about or merely sit in the corner and simply watch. In an interview with Ghost Theory, Doris’s middle son, Brian Harris, would describe them thus:
It was never clear. When they would make themselves known, it was always like a fog. Like a human…but not quite. It was like a sculpture. Like a chiseled body. Not a full figure, but at times we could see some of it. At times, it would be annoying. We would be watching television and these things would walk by. Like nothing. We were so used to the poltergeist, that we just got to a point were we wouldn’t even care.
It became increasingly clear that there were more than one of the entities as well, either 3 or 4 of them, depending on who you ask, although Harris has said that there were 4. This spooky paranormal activity, although at first scary but mostly harmless, would not stay that way for long, soon becoming increasingly terrifying. Not content to just mill about and cause mischief, the entities began to lash out at the family, pushing, shoving, hitting, and even clawing or biting them, and this would happen at all hours, even in the middle of the daytime. Harris would say:
We all experienced some form of attack. There was the pushing, biting and scratching being done to us. There were about 4 entities in the home, and they made themselves known by appearing all the time….I think it took a lot of energy for them to do that. It was as if they [the four entities] showed themselves whenever they felt like.
Although he said there were four of the specters, Doris herself would later claim that there were only three, but the true number was- too many. Even more terrifying still was that the entities began to actively target Doris the most vehemently, and it went from simple pushes, scratches and bites to full on assault, with the ghosts even allegedly holding her down and raping her with abandon. This would often happen in the next room while the terrified children listened to the bangs, thuds, and their mother’s desperate screaming as they cowered in the shadows, but it also sometimes happened right in front of their eyes, and Harris has described these spectral attacks thus:
The whole rape thing was real. My room was right next door to my mother’s. I would hear the attacks happening. Things being thrown, her screaming. Then she would come out of the bedroom and have all these bruises. On her legs, her inner thighs. There were times were we would see it happen in front of us. It was like if a man was standing in front of my mother and would start to beat her. Imagine a woman being beaten. You could see her being picked up and thrown around. Sounds, slaps…but there was no one there to actually do it. We all felt it too. pulling, biting and scratching…we were all attacked.
These viscious attacks and sexual assaults went on unabated, with the apparitions appearing without warning practically every day and night, and it got to the point where the family was desperate for anyone to help them. The biggest of the entities even gained a creepy nickname for himself, “Mr. Whose-it.” Doris took it upon herself to approach paranormal investigators and parapsychologists Kerry Gaynor and Dr. Barry Taff, who were intrigued by her harrowing tale to say the least, and went about arranging a full investigation into the claims. They would not be disappointed.
The team moved in for their investigation on August 22, 1974, thinking at first that there would not be much to this all other than a seriously disturbed young woman. The first thing they did was take a look at the myriad bruises, scratches, and scars that she had all over her body, especially along her inner thighs, allegedly inflicted by the entities and which proved to be far more savage and severe than they had expected. She gave them additional information on the attacks by saying that there were 3 of them (despite her son’s claims that there were 4), and that the two smaller ones would hold her down while the bigger one raped her.
Intrigued, but not yet sold, the investigators set up their equipment in an effort to gather any evidence at all of a haunting. When this was done, they had Doris go into one of the rooms where the most activity had been occurring and told her to start yelling and cursing at the unseen entities, trying to draw them out. Almost immediately there was intense orb activity captured on the equipment, with spots of light flitting all over the place like angry bees. After this Doris was seen to be enveloped by a greenish mist, followed by the materialization of what appeared to be the upper torso of a man, which hovered there in the mist and was apparently so terrifying that one of the investigators fainted. This torso could not be captured on the equipment, but there is a photograph of Doris with a strange arc of light appearing over her.
This sort of intense paranormal activity would could continue virtually unabated for the next several months of the investigation, including apparitions, mysterious lights, temperature drops, horrific mystery odors, and moving objects. It was even noticed that the invastigators’ presence actually seemed to anger and irritate the entities, and it was also found that playing music by the metal group Black Sabbath also seemed to cause an uptick in activity, making it all stronger, but then it suddenly started winding down and stopping altogether for no discernible reason.

One of the photos taken during the investigation
In later years, Doris would move her and her family to other places on several occasions, but according to her each time the entities would follow her wherever she went, although somewhat weaker than they had been. She would even claim at one point that she had been impregnated by one of the spirits. Although her case had become quite well-known at the time, Doris herself would drop off the radar for years before finally succumbing to cardiac arrest in 1995, leaving us no further along as to what happened to her than when these supernatural forces first targeted her.
What exactly happened to this poor woman and her family? What sort of spirits or entities targeted them and why? That would depend a lot on who you ask, but according to Taff himself, it has nothing at all to do with ghosts or spirits as we imagine them. Taff is convinced that the phenomena were caused by the subconscious human mind lashing out to affect the world around it though psychokinesis, the ability to move objects with the mind. In his theory, this is all the result of various factors coming together to cause the mind of a victim to reach out to wreak havoc on the outside world, most often without their awareness that they are even doing so. So insistent is he that this is the case, and that such hauntings are caused by the projections of living beings rather than demons or the ghosts of the dead, that he has expressed disdain for these “paranormal” ideas, saying:
I don’t, for one second, believe this is the work of dead people throwing living people around. As there are no academic credentials required for anyone to go out and investigate the paranormal. Every new age groupie is out there looking for demons, emulating the garbage they’ve seen on cable TV paranormal shows. To fully comprehend the possibility that a living person’s subconscious mind can involuntarily generate such power as to manifest luminous anomalies, apparitions, and macroscopic psychokinetic events, is for me, far more compelling than if a discarnate intelligence was responsible.
The evidence and collected data suggests these effects are the result of what’s called Recurrent Spontaneous Psychokinesis (RSPK) There’s two types of psychokinesis (moving physical objects around without physical means). There’s microscopic, which works on very small scales, things like affecting random number generators, random event generators, and moving subatomic particles around. It’s usually electrostatic-based, fatigue in the individual is shown, as it’s done on a conscious level. And then there’s macroscopic, what we call ‘poltergeist,’ and that’s a whole different ball of wax. We’re talking about the ability of moving very massive objects, hundreds of pounds easily. It’s done on a subconscious level, as there is no fatigue seen in the person at the core of it. Like the microscopic type, it’s believed that the phenomena are generated by a living human agency.
Taff has used this explanation to explain a wide range of what are traditionally considered to be “paranormal phenomena,” which he has compiled into a book called Aliens Above, Ghosts Below: Explorations of the Unknown, which takes the approach of trying to explain all of these disparate phenomena with possible real world rational solutions. Others disagree, and say that this was some sort of demonic presence, a trio of ghosts up to no good, or just the delusions of a fractured mind. It has never been solved either way. Whatever the case is remains to be seen, but in the meantime the Doris Bithers story has gone on to become one of the most frightening and controversial accounts of a haunting on record. So famous and noteworthy is this mysterious case that it was made into a 1983 Hollywood film based on these events called The Entity, starring Barbara Hershey and directed by Sidney J. Furie, and which is loosely based on the real events. What was it that terrorized this family so violently? We may never know for sure.

The Four Logical Reasons Why Human Being Can
Reincarnate into Animals
Xuefeng
March 20, 2021
There are many cases recorded in books about the reincarnation of people into animals. There are also many cases of the use of hypnosis in contemporary Western society to remind people that they have been animals in previous lives. Readers who are interested can search for articles about people's reincarnation into animals on the Internet.
Human beings can reincarnate into animals, and animals can also reincarnate into human beings. The logical reasoning is as follows.
1. The sum of positive and negative energies in the universe is zero. This is a law of the universe. This law tells us that what we get is always equal to what we give. If you get something, you must pay. If you pay, you will get it. Otherwise, there would be no rules of heaven, also it’s a loss of justice and fairness. From this law we can know that, when one receives something from someone else, he must repay it in some way. There are many ways to repay, one of which is to become animals raised by creditors, which can be pigs, dogs, cattle, horses, sheep, chickens, etc. Therefore, there is a folk saying, "I cannot repay your great kindness, I would like to be one of your cattle or your horse in the next life". This is true. There are not many people who raise animals in modern society, especially those who grow up and live in cities. It is difficult for people to become domesticated animals to repay their debts. They can only go to large farms to reincarnate and provide meat for human being to compensate for their debts.
2. Life is a kind of non-material structure with spirituality. Usually people call it a soul, and its essence is consciousness. Whatever kind of consciousness you have, you will be reincarnated into that kind of LIFE. This is also a law, also called the law of heaven. When observing people according to this law, you will find that there are quite a few people in the population whose state of consciousness is not much different from a certain type of animal but can also be very similar to a certain animal in nature that it can even be compared to. Therefore, these people will reincarnate into animals after their physical bodies die.
3. There is a law of LIFE balance in the universe, which tells us that LIFE is always in a state of dynamic balance, just like the ratio of men and women in human beings is always maintained at 51:49, although in a specific time and place, the ratio may exceed 51:49, but macroscopically, this ratio remains unchanged, which is called dynamic balance. In nature, the number of any species has an upper limit. Once the upper limit is exceeded, the balance mechanism will come into effect, and the number will decline and be reduced. From this we know that there will be a transformation between humans and animals. Once there are more people, there will be fewer animals, and once there are fewer people, there will be more animals. Where do these other animals come from? They are reincarnated from human beings.
4. The human world is a transfer station for LIFE at all levels. This is what I discovered when I observed The Continent of the Three Realms That LIVES Pass Through. That is to say, human beings but not only human beings, but there are also gods, Buddhas, immortals, demons, spirits, monsters, ghosts, lions, tigers, wolves, cows, horses, pigs, sheep, chickens, dogs, etc. among them. Except insects, microorganisms, shrimps, flowers, and some trees that do not participate in the LIFE reincarnation system, all other kinds of LIFE have their own representatives living in human society in the form of human beings. This phenomenon shows that animals can become human beings, and human beings can become animals.
From the above four laws (the laws of heaven), it can be concluded that people can reincarnate into animals.
Knowing this truth gives us the following four revelations and warnings.
1. Never owe debts to others. This debt includes economic debts and emotional debts, as well as debts owed to nature. Even if it is obtained from parents and children, it must be repaid.
2. Examine whether there is a certain animal consciousness in your consciousness, if so, get rid of it as soon as possible.
3. Do not harm domestic animals and wild animals as much as possible, otherwise you will be in great danger of being reincarnated into the animal world.
4. Listen to the teachings of sages and try to stay away from demons and spirits.
What one should always keep in mind is that "Divine punishments are slow but sure, like big nets that let nothing slip through them", and Heaven will not spare anyone.

Note
it's only when moving because magnetism is the consequence of relativity on the electric force. so at any and all times that a charged particle is moving inside a magnetic field for any reason (as long as it isn't the same or opposite direction as the field) there will be a magnetic force on the particle.
the particle very much can start moving when already in the field, and the direction and speed of the particle can very much be changed mid course, and whether the particle moves first then enters the field or enters first then moves, there is no inherent difference (tho depending on the exact field the particle might take different trajectories).
you can most certainly futz around with the field while the particles still in it (whether the particle moves or not). this would change the strength and/or direction of the magnetic force.
you can throw in as many particles as you want (heck whatever's generating the magnetic field is being affected by it too, and that generator is probably a macroscopic object made of countless charged particles that are already throwing a party).
one thing to note about all of this is you need some really strong magnets to do cool stuff like trap particles (or magnets with really big fields like the earth). this is also because of relativity. since magnetism is a relativistic affect, and relativistic effects are dependent on speed as a fraction of the speed of light which is huge, relativistic affects like magnetism are generally quite weak. for reference: the earths magnetic field is about 1 gauss. a fridge magnet might be a few gausses i think. particle accelerators - which actually do trap fast moving particles - can have a field strength of several tesla (tens of thousands of gauss). it is easier tho to trap particles that arnt moving at nearly the speed of light.
sadly i cant actually fully explain this stuff because it takes a literal course to learn it. but i can explain a lot, like how magnetic fields are actually not even real (probably), and how light is a ghost.
when an electrically charged particle is in a magnetic field, it will experience a magnetic force from that field ONLY while moving; and the force is proportional to the product of the particle charge and the strength of the field.
the direction of the force, is not the direction of the field (as it would be for an electric field), nor is it the direction of the particles movement (as is the case with friction), but rather, it will be perpendicular to both the particles movement and to the magnetic field. in other words, the magnetic field only redirects the particle, rather than accelerate it or decelerate it.
this also means it does not do any work, and requires no energy to change the particles momentum. like running north and then turning south without using energy.
this also means you can lock electrically charged particles to a magnetic field line. they'll simply orbit that line, being able to move along it, but not leave it.
the strength of the magnetic force also depends on the difference between its direction of motion and the direction of the field. if it's moving in the same or opposite direction, there will be no magnetic force, no matter the speed.
as far as i'm aware, this is the only force that does these weird things. it is a result of relativity.
Dude. This is wild. I understand next to nothing about subatomic particles but I love everything I read. It's like finding out there's a regional playbook for reality. You can trap an electrically charged particle on a magnetic merry-go-round? LMAO that's great. I have so many questions.
Why only when moving? Does the particle already have to be moving when it enters the magnetic field to trigger the magnetic force, or if it goes from stationary to moving while in the field, will that make the magnetic force start too? (Is that even possible?)
Can you futz around with the strength of the field mid-course? Can you throw more than one particle in there and make it a party?
This information is delightful.
