Once again, I am working on an exchange piece, so my actual last line is sworn to secrecy for another week. 😔 BUT that gives me an excuse to flash a little ankle (sneaky sneak peak of my massive soapghost AU wip of doom). Also, it's three lines, because I have no self-restraint.

“These are good, Soap, like— really good.” Gaz scans over the most recent drawings, fingers hovering just above the page like he’s resisting the urge to caress the graphite figures. “You know John’s been looking to hire someone to throw together a new logo for the bar – something he can use to sell t-shirts – you should stop by.”

I had the absolute pleasure to make something artsy to go along with @ginbiscuit's story in this years @mebigbang.

Not only did it just sound like the most awesome concept ever, but am a sucker for friends to lovers, what can I say? Also Gin writes such a sweet James always, that I simply had to be a part of it.

These two images are made with ingame images, cleaned up, edited and made to transparent jpg. Mixed with stock photo backgrounds, also edited, and my own cultivated vector layers (is that even called cultivated? oh well i made them ffs) for color correction and structure.

I also made her an extra thing, which is this track.

There is a long-ass explanation in the description box at my YT, as to why I had to make the 10 second sound clip of the Bodhran drum, and supporting hurdy gurdy separately with the aid of ai. (and am i the only one who just always reads that as Bodum?) - The ensemble in itself is not artificially made however, I stitched, edited and tweaked sound-clips, instruments and rhythm, until I had the bpm I wanted, the segments and rupture. (the track is basically 3 segments, just with pitch changes, adding and subtracting layer tracks - and also bpm change for the 'silent' segment.)

The description box also links to where I download beats, base rhythm, and sound effects from normally. I am saying this both to point out this was not the main art piece given to Gin (due to that fact), and also for complete transparency.

I absolutely love the Vega/Joker pairing so this one was really self indulgent.

Jeff Moreau could never bring himself to like guys like James Vega. Admittedly, not that he liked many people in general, but that kind of empty headed guy, only talking about muscles and guns, was very high on his personal chart of dislikes. The fact that most of the ones he had crossed paths with were also the same people that would chant him “creaky legs” or take particular satisfaction in mockingly calling him “Joker”, asking him to crack a smile every time he had to pass them in the mess hall, didn’t help either.

If that wasn’t enough, Vega had that unbearable everybody should be friends attitude.

Okay, he was attractive, no point in denying that, but since Shepard had brought him aboard the Normandy, he had tried his best to avoid him. He just knew there was absolutely nothing they could share apart from the mission briefs and the weekly game of poker, and he was okay with that.

Dry Harvest in a Small Season

I wrote a fic for @ginbiscuit to celebrate @masseffectholidaycheer! But I’m very late!! No one could have predicted this!!! (everyone could have predicted this.) Apologies!!!!

SUMMARY

Shepard ground her teeth and watched Garrus lever open another barrel. She got it. She really, really did. It didn't make it any easier. Especially not when James was there twenty meters off, kicking up dust in a sullen, angry cloud, expressing with a twist of his mouth and a contemptuous flip-snap of his omni-blade all the things she wished she could say herself.

Garrus was calm and steady as a sunrise, and James Vega itched like a scab, and that was why she brought them both down here to this shitty moon today, because she knew herself well enough to know that she was losing it.

The fic is rated explicit / NC-17, contains hurt/comfort, pining, trauma (aka the whole damn war) and, as a warning for those of you that always remembered to feed Shep’s fish, a small little mention of war-related fish-death.

Summary: Shepard has been in a coma since the war ended, with no hope for improvement - until Liara unearths experimental tech that might just be the thing to help them. James quickly volunteers to use it - ready to do anything to get Shepard back. Little does he know what he gets himself into. As means of protection, Shepard’s mind has constructed a new world around him filled with magical creatures, wonderment, and danger. James now faces the difficult task of getting them out—and trying not to give away what he really feels for Shepard.

Sadly most of my writing lately has been academic bullshit, but I do have a very self-indulgent MShep/Vega AU in the works. 👀 Snippet below the cut!

He’s definitely too young to be in the bar. The bouncer probably wouldn’t have bothered checking his ID, even if this was the kind of place that would actually do that. The man’s bulk alone would have most peg him for at least twenty-five, but most people wouldn’t really be looking. Shepard was looking.

Okay, ogling might have been a more accurate description, but in Shepard’s defense, the things he was doing with those hips were pretty ogle-worthy.

Shepard forced himself to turn away from the gyrating temptation on the dance floor. He was on the clock, so to speak; he had a job to do and not the kind that should be done while distracted.

But what a distraction he was. Even with his back to the crowd of shifting, sweating bodies, Shepard could still see those broad shoulders, that strong back, the narrow waist leading down to those goddamn hips. The picture of him was seared into his mind like the afterimage left behind from staring at the sun.

Shepard threw back the rest of whiskey, cheap shit, but this wasn’t a night made for the good stuff. He scanned the bar again before checking the clock over the bartender’s head; the guy should have been here by now. He scowled to himself. It’s not like he was getting paid overtime.

The bartender must have thought Shepard was trying to get his attention and made his way over. He figured he might as well grab another drink while he had the chance, telling himself it would look suspicious if he was at the bar for too long without one.

“Buy me a drink?”

Shepard looked up as the hulking figure from the dance floor slid gracefully onto the empty stool to his right. The sudden movement displaced some of the stench of stale beer, replacing it with a light trace of cologne and the slightly heavier scent of fresh sweat. It made for a heady combo.

Shepard realized he had been staring a little too long, the other man watching him expectantly with a hint of amusement.

“Uhh…” he very eloquently replied, looking toward to the entrance than back to the man beside him.

“Aw, come on,” the man nodded at the dance floor, “you enjoyed the show, least you could do is tip the dancer.”

Nope!

2. When was the last time you cried?

I can't remember specifically but I'm sure it was within the last week lmao. More definitively: the last time I talked to my mom (because I was sad and she is safe to cry with)

3. Do you have kids?

Nope! Aiming to keep it that way lmao

4. What sports do you play/have played?

All of this is pre-injury but:

Powerlifting (have competed once pre-injury! My fav sport I've ever done!!)

Rec dodgeball

Climbing

As a kid: soccer, baseball, all at like church leagues

Now: I hike :3 and sometimes do yoga. And sometimes weight lift but it hurts my brain so it's been hard to get back into

5. Do you use sarcasm?

Probably too often XD

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

Hmmm. I don't think there's really something that I notice first? Or if there is I can't think about it.

7. What’s your eye color?

Greyish blue.

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings - I don't mind sad endings, but I rarely watch scary movies.

9. Any talents?

Many, but my most useless and favourite one is that I can peel a clementine (and sometimes big oranges) in one long segment.

10. Where were you born?

British Columbia!

11. What are your hobbies?

Writing, the dungeons and the dragons, art, just getting into pottery, gardening/growing too many succulents, reading.

12. Do you have any pets?

Not right now! I typically have hamsters, but a really beloved one passed away this summer and it's been hard finding the energy to get a new one. Hoping to in December or January, though.

13. How tall are you?

Short enough that I can leave my very top cupboard door open and just walk under it

14. Favorite subject in school?

I haven't been in school for nearly a decade, but I took a pottery class at a community centre this fall that was so fun so we're going to go with that

15. Dream job?

For the government to pay better disability so I don't need to worry so much about finances and not being able to work a real job (alternatively, to make enough with really part time art that I no longer need to worry about finances and being able to work full time)

The Silent Stars Go By

A whole load of feels before the final battle for Earth. MShep and Joker is one of my favorite pairings so I was delighted to have the chance to write this.

So here they are. The night before. You have to wonder why there is always a night before, the slow hours before something happens, where you can just endlessly churn your thoughts trying to speed the clocks up.

Tomorrow they will reach Earth. It’s what they have been working for, all these years, the goal for which they sacrificed all they could. Here goes nothing. 

The Normandy is especially quiet, everyone is too deep in their thoughts to even share small talk.

Joker has lost count of how many times he has run the numbers, hoping that even the smallest, irrelevant details could give them any sort of edge against the Reapers. But now everything will be played on the field. 

He can’t think about anything past tomorrow: for all he knows, they could all be dead in a few hours, and all of this could have been for nothing.

No one left to remember their names, everyone turned to dust, swallowed by the darkness of space, waiting for the cycle to start again while the silent stars go by. 

He’s never been an optimist, and he’s not going to start now: he knows you can only rely on your abilities, on your capacity to pull yourself out with every means you have. And they are going against those bastards, all guns blazing, so if they go down, he will have nothing to regret.
