So in a twist of events that fails to surprise the nation, Caracalla really wants to exercise his right to be a prissy princess by getting hard topped by Praetorian Daddy.

There are so many horribly inappropriate historical jokes that could be made about this situation that I am nevertheless choosing to ignore as I continue to write this scene, which in every sense is the model for how statesbusiness should always be handled.

Twenty pounds to find out what Geta's thinking about all of this as he sits there silently on the side cradling his sprained ankle. Twenty pounds that I'm offering to him because he's not letting me know.

Either he wants to join or he wants to quietly slip over the balcony banister and roll down the Palatine hillside. There's no real variety of option to this situation.

... yeah, they're definitely sheltering under canopies. Even if they didn't immediately both start sizzling in direct sunlight, they can't afford to look like common slaves either. Gotta protect that porcelain finish.

I can't believe that the movie takes such a turn randomly in the middle with Macrinus just fucking off back into the provines because he realises he really likes dealing arms and handling small-scale gladiator shows, and then after like, it's not easy for them, but the twins go on to learn how to rule an empire properly and don't end up collapsing the whole thing down once they figure out that not being hungry or dead kind of makes people like their rulers better (you're not you when you're hungry, etc.) It'll take another riot or two, but they'll get there in the end.

Geta would be insufferable at board games. He gets as much into them as he does into watching the shows at the Colosseum, but it's a different kind of getting into it, the more focused and serious kind. If he loses, he'll sulk about it the whole day, can't get his head out of wondering what he did wrong, because he tries so hard. If he wins, he doesn't really stick to enjoy it for long and doesn't know how to in the first place, but it feels good for his confidence, and that stays with him: having solid proof that he can figure his way through challenges, he's smart enough to make things work. And if not on the first, or even the third time? He'll figure it out in the end.

Toughest part in playing is finding an opponent who doesn't give in to him immediately - who understands that he's looking for a challenge, and isn't afraid of losing favour if they give him a fair match. There aren't a lot of people in the palace who don't fall into the bootlicker category. He'd mostly be found pestering the guards, I'm sure, because like you say, Caracalla wouldn't even be an option. He's been hopeless about things that require sitting still and focusing since childhood.

And I think, being humiliated in public about his lack of knowledge about the epic poems to Geta feels like a challenge. Because Macrinus has magically dispersed into thin air, this means he has some time to get so bothered about this that he picks up books again and starts reading. And turns out that Caracalla likes listening, like he did when they were young; when he's not well, when he's tired, or when he's not really sure which way is up, sitting there while Geta's going through some dusty old tome helps him keep grounded. Plus, the stories are captivating - there's a reason we're still reading them in the modern age.

And even though it's never going to be easy for Caracalla, he's got decades to adjust to living with his condition. Geta's going to be so tired of him at times, and even when he's past the harsh first years and doing better they still go through a period of serious bickering - disagreeing on every little thing, both in their respective chambers at night huddled in the same exact pose against the bed headboards, knees to chest, worrying they'll never make it work. But it's just part of growing up: having something for themselves that isn't shared. Opinions, preferences, goals, priorities; Caracalla will always be the one pushing forwards and making grand plans, Geta the one working them back down to earth and checking in with advisors. The thought of what it would be to rule alone is there, sometimes, but they both know they're the best of each other, and neither really leans into that thought seriously. They started out that way, them against the world, and they're not about to change just because they learn to play the world that they live in.

By his thirties, Caracalla's going to have a whole menagerie of different creatures to be around. Like you said - it's difficult to feel empathy for people. Animals are easier; they don't have demands, they don't scheme, and they give what they get. You know if one of them is about to pounce you: you know if you give pain, you get pain in turn. Maybe most importantly - they don't look at you like you're less than, they only see what's really there. Doesn't matter if you're sick, if you're petite, if some days you just feel worse or even if you need to hide, they don't judge you for it. Be good to them and they see you as their own, no matter what state you're in. Respect them and you earn respect back, care for them and you... might get care back, or they'll just be less likely to eat you if the opportunity arises. People? Not so much. Solution: feed the people to the animals. It's not like they quit hosting games, after all. Sometimes what your cool exotic pet needs the most in terms of enrichment is a good public execution, where the pet gets to play the executioner. And we know Romans in general are all over that - it's just good PR.

I have seen your tags and I am here to tell you that if it is unhealthy (and for my own part I can say that it is for sure but these emotions need to go somewhere either way), at least we're in this together. I think I need to figure out something happy to patch up the last week which I've dedicated solely to processing the parts of this story that REALLY hurt. We need more Geta enjoying sports. Geta as the primary investor in their gladiators? Watching them train at the ludus, having honeyed nuts and wine in the shade. I don't know what the hell Caracalla likes that isn't blood or sex or drugs but I'm inventing a thing right now: in the film, we don't even get as much of him with Dondus as we do with the script, but they must have been inseparable offscreen.

And just. Imagining them spending time on a courtyard. Picking fruit out of the trees. Napping in the sun.

I'm glad we're all in this together, all collectively torturing ourselves and being devastated together and also fueling the fire with more and more pain zjdjdjdjdjjd

Geta being happy and content, safe and relaxed and having fun is all I want to think about from now on (it's not going to happen I know). I've spent so much time thinking about the endless horror of his circumstances that I've completely forgotten that his days might actually not be filled with stress and agony 24/7 😭 He should definitely watch more sports and make stupid bets and lose more money for the empire, relax in bath houses and get pampered by kind and gentle servants, play games himself as well, maybe he likes board games? Idk which games were invented at that point but maybe he would enjoy some (maybe they would be too boring for him if he enjoys the adrenaline rush of Bigger games or maybe he would find them relaxing). Napping in the sun sounds wonderful besides the sunburn since they are a bit too pale for that but I assume you meant under canopies in the shade while being fanned and being fed grapes like Real Royalty.

One can only speculate what Caracalla would enjoy besides those things but you're right I bet he spends a lot of time with Dondus 😭❤️ ((as a sidenote I wonder if Caracalla has a hard time feeling empathy for anyone except Dondus?)) Caracalla would probably despise boardgames or the like, they require too much concentration but I'm sure he also likes some calmer moments. We're never shown the twins enjoy any hobbies like art and those things probably wouldn't have been encouraged in their childhood (art is messy and music is loud) so I'm not sure if they'd want to pick any of those up in their adulthood but maybe?

Whatever it is the twins enjoy I want them to have a good time and yes Caracalla's illness is in a latent state or gets miraculously cured and they will live (relatively) long (relatively) happy lives together and Caracalla is loved and cared for even if his illness makes him act out ❤️

i bought sooo much paulos stock during the ausgp here were my favorite moments:

1) that video where paul sees like a stray thread on carlos' hoodie somewhere near carlos' shoulder/neck and literally goes to tear it away with his hands and basically the whole time he's doing that charles and carlos are making flustered eye contact

2) paul mouthing the correct answers to carlos during the quiz thing, taking carlos' side in being like "carlos said the correct answer before charles did" (even though the slow mo replay showed that charles clearly said it first lmao), and messing with the rules in a few other small ways to give carlos the advantage over charlie

3) carlos not really paying enough attention at the beginning of the quiz and charles getting like 3 in a row which made paul basically tell carlos to lock in. and you know what? after paul told carlos to focus he Literally Did. it was insane to see (i mean i'm sure carlos was also thinking like "ok these media duties are still part of my job paul is right i need to like be more engaged" but still). (this is also one of the moments that reinforced my firm belief that like… if carlos the control freak is comfortable enough with someone…… he would actually enjoy being told what to do………………)

4) the blindfolded challenge where after paul was blindfolded carlos touched his arms and went "this is your left hand and this is your right hand" like? girl he knows? they haven't changed just because he's blindfolded?? lamest excuse to touch a boy everrrrrrr come on carlos you could've come up with something better than that !

anyway good to see my investment is still paying off in 2025. i thought it was so funny how obvious it was (or perhaps how obvious paul decided to make it) that he liked carlos more than charles. i honestly believe that if carlos had realized that he would've legitimately invited paul to a race this season like as his personal guest. unfortunately i'm not convinced that he realized even after paul literally helped him cheat to beat charles at a silly quiz (i feel like generally speaking especially outside of the f1 bubble people are always doing things like that for carlos in part because… well. as paul himself said carlos is A Very Pretty Boy !!)

Well first of all I am of course romantically in love with you. This was the first thing I saw in the morning and frankly an ideal start to my day. Now let’s discuss PAULOS.

That moment is so funny to me because not only does Carlos not really know what to do, CHARLES is like hello??? Can he do that? Like neither of them are sure how to proceed but they don’t like it. Powerless to stop him tho. Two pretty Barbie wide-eyed car men unable to deal with Paul’s boisterous man swag. Why are these literal athletes getting out-masculined by this aspiring hipster/actor. Any threesome between them is just Paul playing with his dolls

The challenges video is so funny because you can see how lowkey stupid Paul thinks it is. Like he dgaf he thinks it’s strange he does not care if he and Charles win the remote control car thing. Hes gonna play along but he is not going to buy into it. Hes not from the bubble of f1 and hes like. Ok. He DOES however want Carlos to win😭 he’s like Carlosssss cmon get the answers right I know you can do this. Charles CANNOT know more about the Roman Empire than you!!

Also yeah literally it’s so clear he prefers Carlos. Why girl what did Charles do is he just not your type lmao. All that for a couple minutes long game video. He was down horrendous. This video also endears Charles to me because he’s the only one who actually gaf. Like he’s YELLING the answers he NEEDS to win the Roman Empire quiz. And normally Carlos would be on that level with him but here he’s by himself and it’s kind of sweet lol. Paul is like Carlos I NEED to fuck you carlos is like when will we be done w ts I need a coffee and Charles is like THERE WERE FEMALE GLADIATORS I KNOW IT!!! In my mind palace we can do a situation with this dynamic where Charles is desperately trying to pretend everything is normal while Paul undresses Carlos with his eyes. Hes like I do not give a fuck at all btw. Do NOT write down that I give a fuck because I don’t!!

My ultimate suspicion is that paulos is tragically doomed because I don’t think Carlos cared back😔 I think Paul left him unmoved. Even Charles was like waow Paul slays such a cool guy and Carlos was like yeah #whatever I met him. Which leaves the floor open for a hilarious triangle where Paul likes Carlos, who likes Charles, who overcompensates and insists he and Paul get along sooo well.

Tldr: Paul needs Carlos so bad. But he’d have better luck with Charles in whom he is NOT interested lmao

something i havent seen yet as far as i can tell is the fucking insane implication that the reason that the taurtis clones call out to sam -

- is because taurtis in his last moments most likely thought about him and it carried on to the clones' memories with the same desperation in wanting to be saved and the love taurtis has for his best friend

it's why i think all the clones turn towards sam specifically and not grian because taurtis himself was only thinking about sam. if we take yandere into consideration and the start of yhs — it is sort of implied that they've been friends with each other Longer than they have been with grian + they've lived together for a long time as well since they stay in the Gladiator residence (alone) for the early parts of yhs

isn't it fucking horrifying that this kid, who spent most of his life with one person, gets sent to the hospital and replaced, dealing with all the shit that sam's done because he gets dragged into it as his friend, and then once he gets essentially kidnapped, he thinks about sam for his Last Final Moments only to be immediately replaced and brushed off with a clone. with several clones. with another version.

you're never going to be your own person. you're never going to be remembered for who you are and only as the concept of you. you're never going to be saved and you're never getting a funeral. they mourn for the lack of you, not who you were.

and the big thing is they never really do. they pay respects, sure, (TS E 21 around the end) but when sam and taurtis two see the letter, sam mostly brushes it off because the higher priority is gym class? and poor 2 who had to grasp the fact that he is a clone, and not the original that he thought he was. and im not sure just yet how much they reference original taurtis, but in the finale when they're discussing about having another taurtis;

GRIAN: At what point do we just... take the L?

SAM: Wait, you don't want Taurtis back?

GRIAN: Well- But- I'm just saying like-

GRIAN: How many Taurtises do we have to kill-

SAM, overlapping: As many as- as there is.

SAM: I'm never giving up on Taurtis.

SAM: HE IS OUR FRIEND, DUDE.

SAM: Even if he gets sacrificed to minion zombies and then meets an alternate version of himself named Jerry,

SAM, louder and harsher: I'M NOT GOING TO GIVE UP ON HIM.

^ from this alone you can see how sam feels about taurtis as a person when sam just wants the comfort of having a taurtis around, not so much that it's him

it's why sam didn't feel as bothered that the original died, he had clones that served the concept well. it's why sam dressed grian up and that was enough to comfort him because the idea of taurtis is around. it's why sam dismisses the fact that they should give up on trying to replace the original because he needs a taurtis to even function (it's why he crashes out multiple times so hard without him) and it's why he says "As many as there is." to grian's "How many Taurtises do we have to kill [before we just have to accept the loss]"

sam just can't accept the fact that taurtis is gone moreso that taurtis is a person rather than something him stable. idk. isn't it crazy that your perception warps so hard that your love for your best friend turns into an obsession that leaves him as an idea to you? isnt it crazy that your love for your best friend has you get dragged in to everything he does, consequences and all, to the point that you're grateful for everything anyway and you never get mourned?

((I am so glad you brought this up! Because this brings up the very interesting question of how informed one must be to create fan work of a media. That message saying I haven't watched, nor plan to watch it, serves as a warning. I am not perfect, I do not know everything about Yhs or TS. However, I've watched many many analysis videos, read fan works, watched fan videos, and things of that type. Because quite honestly, I dont want to support Sam Gladiator by giving him ad revenue or more views. I am content with watching other people's telling of the story, and some of Grian's other series like HC, Life series, that one cannibal video, and others.

So how informed must one be to make fan work of somthing? In a modern sense, is one "allowed" to create art of a hermit, even if they havnt watched off of their hermitcraft seasons?

Or in a more classical sense, is someone who gets all their info from translations of old Greek writings not "allowed" to create art of these tales and gods because they didn't read the original Latin or Greek?

If I am genuinely making someone upset, please block me. Don't let yourself get all angry over someone role-playing online. I am not online trying to make people upset.

And if theres somthing I state that's just blatantly wrong, or little things I can change, please let me know! I'm fluid with how I role-play, I am willing to change and adapt!

What I'm learning about this specific Caracalla in Boys & Wolves is that his self balances on a scale, on one end you have baby, and on the other end you have unhinged unrestricted pure fucking evil, and that FASCINATES me greatly

You can load points into baby as long as he's having a really bad time. Fever? You're good, evil is in check. Pain? Depends on the fever. If he's still incapacitated by that, pain adds to baby.

If he doesn't have fever. He gets really fucking testy. If he has pain and no fever, it's now everybody else's problem, and everybody else should ALSO be in pain, preferably as great or greater than his own. If he gets enough rest and has his physical symptoms in check? Closing in on the line of people are going to start dying now, and he's going to love every second of it.

How am I going to make a happy ending for you when you're like that. Without a good excuse to be impossible to handle, you're starting to piss Geta off, and that's dangerous, love. That is very, very dangerous, because his scale is baby to god emperor.

And if you take points out of baby, and stack them enough in god emperor, he starts thinking REALLY highly of himself. And that's when you start looking like a problem to him. We're reaching that point.

Butting in where nobody invited me, the question of how long the twins have actually been in power fascinates me, because we don't know, but it's both long enough to drive Rome on the brink of collapse, and not long enough to have a single person really on board with the whole situation or what to do with it at all.

The twins have no clue what they're doing and they're absolutely riding a high here. From the way it looks, their military campaign is going reasonably great - their soldiers are bringing them victories, but at the cost of stretching the Empire too thin too fast. They have too many fronts and not enough supply, and internal stability is getting ignored and fucked in the process. They don't seem to have much of a touch on the populace or understand that they need to have a back and forth with their people, currently they're just giving them that rockstar and think it's all that needs doing in terms of PR. It isn't, but I also don't really know what they're supposedly doing wrong. Killing everyone's fathers and sons and brothers in war? There's some form of a famine building as a result of the forementioned rapid expansion and ignorance toward supply lines? They're drawing from the people to feed their armies? The armies, which are also dying off at a faster pace than they can be built back up.

None of this has reached a tipping point yet, but they've been at it for long enough that it's become wholly unsustainable. Nobody tells them aside from Acacius and I guess the Senate tried, and they also don't listen.

Further, it's been 16 years since Marcus Aurelius. Septimius Severus, their father, in real life ruled for a decent time considering he was the last survivor of the Year of the Five Emperors, which started with the death of Marcus Aurelius and extended to Commodus in Gladiator 1, and then (buzzing, static noise, distorted video feed), ending with presumably him as it did with history. So we've had the Severan dynasty in power for how long now? How much did their father fuck up Rome with his campaigns? The RL dude died somewhere in Britain of an illness and it was Caracalla and Geta who put an end to that war front, but clearly they've been doing other things in this universe. But maybe they did close up shop in Britannia, and chose to focus south, where our story's looking toward? Severus had a succesful expansion down into African and Middle-Eastern fronts, so maybe they looked at that and went, you know what, we could do better. By chucking all of Rome's military prowess single-mindedly over there with all of the food also?

Throwing back to the Senate by the way - what the hell are the crimes against the Senate that Acacius accuses them of? Again RL, Severus was not popular with the Senate, but these two are too damn young to have had anything to do with that. Maybe they just didn't do anything to fix that, and made it worse, because their father got away with it and also who the hell cares about the Senate anyway? What are those old guys doing aside from nothing and being hostile?

Severus also, curiously, overhauled the Praetorian guard. He kicked out everyone he thought wasn't 110% loyal to him and replaced the command with his own men, and increased their pay by like a millionfold. I think, at the time of Gladiator II's story, with the Praetorian guard - things might actually be okayish for the twins, despite their growing hubris and the Praetorians' habit of discarding emperors that fuck with them. Because they're getting paid so much better than they ever were, and while Geta and Caracalla are both morons, I don't think Geta would go as far as being a moron about their personal security. I don't think they'd be cutting corners with the changes their father presumably put in place, and I think the Praetorians, for the time being, are putting up with their nonsense out of convenience - their job might be harder at this time, but they're being compensated, and they probably have lingering loyalty over.

But again in terms of the timeline - they can't have been in power for even two years. I can't imagine them lasting that long, or it having been that long, particularly when our available timeframe is 16 years, and we had to have other Emperors in that time, and they're so goddamn young. If they'd come into power at like, 15, they would have been either disposed of immediately or they would have been trained into the job to do better than they are. They wouldn't have lasted into their 20s being the way that they are.

So they've been on the throne for fuck all in terms of time, inherited a military behemoth from their father who presumably was good enough at his job to not get nuked the same way Commodus did and had a military mindset which he entirely failed to hand his children (probably because he was too busy beating them), and have in a matter of months driven that into the ground because they're insecure, unqualified, and lack any form of guidance and councelling to do their jobs better.

Somebody get these boys a babysitter who can handle budgeting at the same time.

I started to wonder how many emperors were killed by the praetorian guard and apparently it was quite a few lmao so the emperors were very much not safe with their own bodyguards

makes me wonder how many other little personal privileges the guards could take if they would even kill the emperors if they so chose and if the emperors were ever scared of them

the guard were elite soldiers and a branch of the military working as the emperors' private police essentially

they worked for the emperors and their job was to protect the emperors and to stop social unrest and also demonstrate the emperors' power but while they were ordered by the emperors they were not commanded by them but instead by their own commanding officers

Clara Bow by miss TS but it's just the Vacker family line

"All your life, did you know You'd be picked like a rose" <- The prettiest flowers get picked first. People poke and prod, and you have to develop thorns to keep them away.

"This town is fake but You're the real thing Breath of fresh air through smoke rings" <- I feel like this can encapsulate how the Vacker's feel about their friends or romantic interests. Alden growing up a Vacker and meeting Della, she's the realest thing that's ever happened to him. Fitz meeting Keefe and Sophie, Biana meeting Sophie and Dex and Tam.

All the lines that are like "You look like ______ (insert famous person)" but it's just people comparing everyone in the family against each other. Alvar is born, people are saying "You look just like Alden (Clara bow)" until, obviously, Fitz rolls around and oh NO "HE looks just like Alden, and he's got all of the good things Alvar had too. (Stevie Nicks/Taylor swift)" And then Biana comes around and it's like "You've got all the good parts of both of your brothers. You've got edge, they never did. (Taylor Swift)"

Because the entire Vacker family is Nothing New coded. Like how long will you love me until you move onto the next thing? Am I only biding time till I lose your attention? And someone else lights up the room?

"The crown is stained but you're the real queen Flesh and blood amongst war machines You're the new god we're worshipping Promise to be ... dazzling" <- Finding out about the Vacker legacy, having to keep carrying the name and make something good out of it, to compensate for all the ugly. But you didn't cause it, you were born into it. You're just a kid. You have to always be beautiful and palatable and to say the right things, you are criticized like a god, never quite good enough for the standards of man.

"Beauty is a beast that roars Down on all fours Demanding "more" <- The striving for perfection will swallow you whole. Only when your girlish glow Flickers just so Do they let you know It's hell on earth to be heavenly" <- This just speaks to celebrity culture, and people's entitlement to the lives of others and their beauty, the predatory way child stars are watched, people banking on their fall from grace, always ready to laugh in their face. It's all the spite and jealousy of being front and center, and never being allowed to complain because "You have it better."

But this beauty is ugly now. It's tainted. It's abused. It isn't yours. You are the gladiators in the colosseums of ancient rome, the entertainment as the world crumbles.

This isn't utopia, it's a life sentence.

The movie is not out yet. Get your facts right. The release date is the US and canada is on december 20th and in the UK in January.. it wasn't a premiere it was a Bafta screening in London.. in the letterboxd interview Paul said he saw it at London at Picturehouse Central the same place where the screening happened and nobody said gracie was there was him. The screening was on November 11th on Sunday paul was in Dublin for the gladiator premiere on November 8th and I think he had some interviews and went to a match on November 10th but there is no proof he was in Ireland the day of the screening. Now for joe and doja, some people say they saw them that day there on Twitter and on deux moi, but there is no proof of that. I didn't say they were there together. Maybe both of them went separately... I don't know, and you certainly don't know. And frankly, who cares you are trying to make joe look better by believing he is not with DC but the fact is he chose to be associated with her in some kind of a relationship (PR or not), he wasn't forced to do it... if you think she is awful, joe made the choice to be associated with an awful person, accept it.
