Just read a post full of wildly wrong claims such as “glagolitic alphabet was a thing Slavs had before Christianization and then the Evil Church(tm) came by and ruined it bc it was pagan” and I’m so angry but I don’t have time to write an essay-long sourced post on it due to upcoming obligations, but man! Do you even know WHY Cyril and Methodius (venerated as saints in both Catholic and Orthodox churches) invented glagolitic in the first place? Why they even came to Moravia at all? (fun fact: it was to spread Christianity, also guess what kind of stuff first got written in old church slavonic/glagolitic? OH RIGHT THE BIBLE AND OTHER RELIGIOUS TEXTS (there are secular ones too, but of later date)

And like sure there was quite some effort put into “killing” glagolitic/old church slavonic in the western/catholic Church, but it’s not such a black-and-white situation of “it’s all the Evil Church(tm)’s fault” as I’ve seen it portrayed, as evidenced by the fact that the work of Cyril and Methodius and their students was approved and documented by at least two popes who lived in that time, though the Slavic liturgy had its enemies in lower clergy (such as the bishop Wiching).

If anyone wants a more detailed and properly sourced post about this remind me in about a week.

And lastly, that script is a version of glagolica, old writing system that later evolved into cyrilic alphabet used today

While romani people using coins and small metal pieces to decorate their clothes may have been a part of the inspiration, this picture reads bizantine era russia to me.

As a bonus, embroidered rag dolls or dolls made of other materials such as hay, corn leaves, wood, or other materials roughtly of a hand size are a THING in historic eastern europe

If I interpret this, based on dress and setup, I see a gypsy. Another wonderful group of people with an inherent air of mysticism around them. Strahd, if I remember well, was cursed by Gypsies. They are your go-to group of people for nice side-adventures, as well as caravans (for a more Arabic or Asian environment).
