Have I Learned Anything at All?
I ask this but I genuinely don't know. And I know the lot of you don't have the time to witness me feel my way around to figure out if I have. The spoiler is most certainly that I have, as gauche as it is to admit-- I've run dry on vocabulary, and so the rest has to be poured from the heart.
Have I learned anything? Have I learned anything at all from this experience? We tap our pencils as we would quills against our temples, just trying to glean some kind of wisdom from our time spent observing a text.
We're hungry for it, starving for it, even, some of us. The wisdom on the walls beckons to the point that it causes us to tear open some kind of malicious, own-seeing, third-eye. This third-eye is secretly a malevolent figure by virtue of the fact that it is a variable, entering your lifespan kicking and screaming in the form of some kind of schizophrenic outburst of pure, stark-raving madness.
No dishevelment upon anyone currently-grappling with those tendencies, my first brush with them got me Baker Acted, and I refuse to inherit my father's maddening strife, or my mother's anxious detachment.
I resolve to be another secret third thing altogether, casting my spells quietly for the good of mankind, writing what I can from my ivory tower, that secretly exists as a monument to slovenly-living. I attempt to guide others toward a treasure I feel I cannot possess, success, achievement, love, you name it.
I must rest, now, as I've a doctor's appointment in the morning to see if any of these changes are actually going to stick or not. I suppose it comes down to me.
That's it! That's what I've learned!
It comes down to me, past-present-and-future. That kind of accountability can make people want to start digging up your skeletons, but a sudden uproar of accountability shouldn't be a scary thing, it should be what we're all reaching toward-- a state of being in touch with our feelings, emotions, and nerves, while also being in full control of ourselves... This is homeostasis. This is ideal.
So that's what I've learned from my experience, I suppose. It falls to me in order to maintain my relationships, and ensure that they don't rot. I need to be the one to communicate, yet again, I need to be the one to talk, and to say the right things, again, and again...
That's how I love the world, saying the perfect thing over and over, until I am nothing but a belayed, purple and putrescent husk of what was ultimately, kind-of an asshole.
In any case, let's smile and try to get some well-medicated rest tonight, for the doctors we may need see tomorrow... I'll purge the memories there, the doctor played a fine game triggering me and guiding me toward the right way to heal.
Embrace your triggers.
Use isolated agitation to train your brain.
Thank the good doctor.
And trust the apple.

Are we having a moment with any Taylor song in particular these days?
It’s funny how you can come back to something after some time away and it hits you in new ways all over again.

If John were to write something, do you think he'd use the british spellings because Arthur is british and John presumably gets all his knowledge on human stuff through Arthur's subconscious?
Or would John glean through Arthur's subconscious both the british and American spellings, and then intentionally choose the one that's best for subtly teasing Arthur

Has anyone endlessly dissected Armand's subtle Marius shade yet
#iwtv#iwtv armand#LESSER skill 💅🏽✨#im sincerely so curious to see how their dynamic plays out once he finds out marius is alive#bc it seems like he still thinks hes dead as of s2#as far as i can tell book!armand doesnt find out marius is alive until he reads lestats book?? which will never not fuck me up#book!lestat is truly aint shit for hearing armands Tale of Woe then kicking it at marius’s mcmansion for a week#writing and publishing a book about it meanwhile never letting his friend armand who he ‘loves’ know that his fucking maker is still alive#but anyway in the show theyre definitely leaning into armand being more embittered towards marius which i loveeee#vs in the books where he seems more ambivalent?#its hard bc u can make a strong reading of book!armand as deeply resentful#but unable to process that relationship enough to understand his feelings about it#but ar is so shit at character development/keeping emotional consistency that it feels like a fluke when something actually tracks#like theres a great moment in qotd where marius is seeing armand again for the first time since his ‘death’ and marius is all hugging him#and armand is just sort of solemn and passively allowing it and not rly engaging with him#but then when marius needs him armand goes to his side and comforts him a few chapters later#and i think theres a lot you can glean from those two interactions but since ar spends no time digging into that at all its like…..#did it even mean anything? or am i imagining a better story than im actually reading#she just has this knack for laying the groundwork of a deeply fascinating character dynamic and then never fully seeing it to fruition#even in armands own book which is largely dedicated to exploring that relationship his feelings on marius stay pretty unresolved#he feels conflicted at the start and conflicted at the end and telling his story doesnt illuminate anything he still just feels the same#i can sit around and make different interpretations forever but the text never Goes There enough to be satisfying for me#and im not fucking reading blood and gold so if the insight i seek lies within someone just tell me. pls

I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYONE ELSE TALK ABOUT THIS BUT SERIOUSLY. WHAT THE FUCK DOES THIS MEAN.
Tumblr media
"you said you don't want to make ANY MORE mistakes" ???? right after an attempted kiss???
is this just a general "don't make a drunk mistake, you'll regret kissing me when you're sober" OR IS IT "DON'T KISS ME AGAIN BC LAST TIME YOU THOUGHT IT WAS A MISTAKE" ...

when i was very small we did an english class on "nonsense poetry" which was of course about poems which dont have any particular sense to them. for example we read the ning nang nong. but we also read a very short poem that i have thought abt regularly for over 20 years since then that i dont think is nonsense at all and i think maybe "nonsense poetry" is a stupid term that tells kids theyre weird for finding meaning in things. anyway it went like this
as i was going up the stair,
i met a man who wasn't there.
he wasn't there again today
i wish, i wish, he'd go away.

I don't really understand why people get pissed off at the statement "they're at least bisexual". Like its not implying that bisexuality Itself is 'lesser', it's just a simpler way to say "they're not straight but we don't know if they are Exclusively interested in the same gender or not". That's all that statement directly implies. It's placing bisexuality on a spectrum between 'exclusive opposite binary gender attraction' and 'exclusive same gender attraction' as a measurement point.
Like it's a REDUCTIVE description of bisexuality (harmlessly so IMO, but reductive) but that's never what I see people upset about.

something about byan picking up smoking at like 14 or 15 bc they're the epitome of the delinquent kid and they thought it was cool and edgy... something about them effectively forcing themself into the habit in part to rebel against everyone telling them not to but also there's just something about the feeling of control over themself and their life in this act of rebellion... something about them keeping the habit not only because it becomes an addiction, but also because there's something so poetically fitting about how self destructive this little act of rebellion, this forceful grab for control over their own life ultimately is... something about burning twice as bright but having half the time and ultimately being the one to snuff their own flame... idk it's on my mind today

every time someone mentions the way music-related algorithms work in the best interests of major labels pushing their artists for their own gain and therefore are often embedded with bias and cut off new avenues of discovery everyone comes out of the woodwork to mention "well, anecdotally to my specific circumstance, I've discovered (5) new artists with sub-one thousand regular listeners completely detached from any information or scene or cohesive idea of taste on my weekly currated playlists so therefore algorithms actually work amazing" like what are you talking about. can we be serious please.

remy help, im writing my first mash fic and idk anyone who watches the show so idk who else to ask. do u know how the hell post op shifts work?? like is there a surgeon in there all the time? how long are shifts/how often do they trade off? i figure if anyone would know, itd be you (ps i love ur work and thank u <3)
This is so sweet omg and I'm excited to read your fic!! If you're comfortable when it's done, lemme know that it's posted so I can come read it :D
Honestly I do a lot of my own writing about it based on context clues rather than any firm, clear knowledge!! In my fics, I usually make the shifts around like 8 hours long, one surgeon on the midnight post-op shift because it's usually quieter, one relieves them in the morning, one relieves them in the afternoon, etc. After big pushes, I usually put two in there at a time because there's so much to monitor, but also that's what their very well-trained nurses are for. We know that there are two surgical shifts—they'll say over the loudspeaker for both surgical shifts to report to the helipad when there's a push—and also that there is a surgeon 'on call,' so I'm not sure if the surgical shift relates to post-op, relates to a surgeon being on call for those 12 hours to come scrub up if they get like just three or four casualties who come in, or what. I play pretty fast and loose with it and also smudge the edges of the scene rather than getting very specific with the details fhkdfsd
We see several scenes where during mealtimes, all of the surgeons are eating together, so I often assume that if it's slow during mealtime, they can go grab a bite as long as they're listening to be called back in if there's an emergency. But we also know that in Merchant of Korea, Charles asks BJ to close his last patient for him so Charles can go get a bite to eat before his post-op shift, which BJ points out isn't protocol, so I might be wrong about mealtimes. They get at least one day completely off medical duties because I vaguely remember someone complaining once that they had to go do something I think in post-op or surgery on their day off.
But yeah, for simplicity's sake (and often the convenience of having the Swamp occupied only by two of them oop), I usually have one in there at all times except for meals, and if there's two—say, after a really big push—then usually I have one focusing on paperwork while the other is more actively rotating among the beds. But they have so many really amazing nurses that monitor the patients much closer and just generally keep the doctors updated, then take orders based on that, so I feel like they pull a lot of weight when a doctor needs to step out for one reason or another too.
This has probably not been helpful at all. Anyone with more concrete information is welcome to weigh in because it's probably better assistance than my "I go by vibes based on what best assists my plot at the time."

A thing I'm definitely putting in a hurt/comfort fic at some point is Logan being able to smell the difference between fresh blood and dried blood, so he's totally wigging about Scott being injured and he's dragging him back to the jet or smthn and he can just sense the point when Scott stops actively bleeding and it doesn't take all the stress away but he relaxes a little bit

Hello! I was wondering if you have any advice for drawing facial expressions? Your characters always look so expressive, and I love looking at their faces. My faces tend to look pretty stiff. I would like to try and fix this but I’m not sure how.
hey there! good to see you again~! 👋
oh gosh thank you ;o;; tbh I've never felt like I'm very good at giving art advice, since I still feel like I'm also trying to figure stuff out myself... but I could try to just kinda share how I go about things and maybe it'll help? :0 gonna put it under a cut here since I tend to ramble lol
when it comes to expressions, I normally tend to pull from and mimic styles or faces I see in other media - right now my style is very heavily anime/manga inspired, so I'm focusing on how various artists within that style draw expressions, and try to either replicate it outright or figure out how I could apply the pieces I like the most to my own work. if there's a certain look you're going for, it's always good to find works that have the expressions or fluidity you want and study it! examine the shapes used for the facial features (eg: how the artists bend and alter the face to achieve a certain feeling or emotion), then experiment with how it feels to draw those shapes yourself to get an idea of how it works on a fundamental level.
I actually started out with really exaggerated expressions, like what you'd see in american cartoons or comics. forced me to figure out how expressions work in general, and I was able to tone it down into something more subtle over time. so idk if maybe something like that could help (starting with exaggeration and working towards nuance)? studying posture irl and also in other art/media can kinda help you figure out how people move and behave when experiencing an emotion, and I usually use what I've learned from that as a starting point when I approach an expression I want to draw.
tbh one of the best things really is just observing and looking up how other ppl do it ;o;; there are a lot of tutorials that explain some basics of what parts of the face to squash and stretch depending on the expression you're going for, so it's always good to try looking those up too! (I'd offer some links but honestly I've seen so many over the years that I've just kinda internalized into my own process and I have no idea who made them or where I even saw them, so unfortunately you'll probably have to do your own research there ><;;)
anyway!! TL;DR: find sources of inspiration for what you like artistically/visually and play around with it in your own way... eventually you'll kinda pick up on ways to make your expressions feel more fluid and believable within your own style, it just kinda (unfortunately) takes some time, dedication, and repetition ;o;; idk if any of that helps, since my thought process tends to be pretty abstract when it comes to this sort of thing, but I did my best ^^;
