So, WIP is probably a GROSS exaggeration considering how little exists of most of these besides the concept in my head, but here goes. All Hetalia.
1. "Dette" - Seurte and Plegge-verse prequel. Original (Seurte) was created by The GoliathBeetle, I wrote Plegge as a tribute/sequel.
2. "Barrel Straps" - bootlegger Matt and Al, immigrant squad (Romano, Lithuania, Ireland) on hiatus because it's got too many bits that I'm using for another WIP and I want them more for the other so we're going to see what we do with that.
3. "All of Us Monsters" - not the title for the work but it IS the title for the little epilogue I want to do if I get there. Um, it's anon but I will admit that it's omegaverse CanAme, so that might give it away. I have ideas for a few little spin-offs from the main story. So I guess we can call this a 'verse.
4. "Shaggy Dog Christmas" - I did a little movie poster mashup for this. I'd like to actually write it, or at least a bit of it someday.
5. "Bonnefoy Boys" - NOT the actual title but planned FAC family, Matthew and Alfred are Francis' twin sons. Perfect on the outside, but the inside is a hot mess. Possibly FrUK if I can bring myself to get over my ScotFra love enough for it.
wip folder game!
Rules: Make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have WIP

these range from "literally just an idea for a fic title" to "basically completed but i never got around to posting it" and several of these were random ideas that i havent thought about since i made the note. at least one is an idea that i had while driving and by the time i was able to write it down i only remembered like half of it. and there wasnt a lot to begin with lmao

What prev said, and I think part of the hate is not just first person but the trend in YA of first person in present tense. I have a personal gripe against that particularly but only because I feel like some books that used it could have been told much better using another type of narration. But even then, first person in present tense can still work really well, especially if you want your narrator to be relatively reliable.
I'm not sure what you mean by "weird," but first person can add to weirdness, and I always vote into leaning into the weird. I can forgive whatever choices in POV an author makes; I can't forgive an author apologizing in their writing for their own story. (I'm getting tired of the *nudge nudge wink wink* self-deprecating type of humor that's become trendy in media. I think pulling the audience into the joke can be done well, but often it just feels lazy or like the creator is already trying to talk to the people who will read their work in bad faith, and I think that sort of audience shouldn't get any amount of living space in a creator's mind.)
Sorry for the tangent, but I feel it's at least semi-related to the question, so it's staying.
Like goliathbeetle said, first person POV can feel harder, and if you haven't written it in a while, something I'm doing to help me with a first person POV project is taking one of my many unused notebooks and writing some entries how I feel like my narrating character would write them. My framing for his series is that he's writing from years after the events of the books, in order to help him process everything he'd been through and work through that trauma. So writing some journal entries helps me find his voice while also fleshing him and his relationships more.
Having said that, sometimes things happen. I have a different project that started out in limited third-person POV, but something about that is feeling like it's not the best fit for the story. It's just what I'm used to writing in. So that project has been set aside while I fiddle around with the narration and figure out what fits the story best.
However you feel fits your story best, go with that, but if more pieces fall into place as you're writing and makes it so that a different narration choice needs to be made, keep yourself flexible enough to play around and see what works -- including mixed POVs! Yes, this can be an even bigger turn-off for some readers and can be harder to pull off than using only first-person or only third-person throughout, but it can be done, and there are plenty of readers who are fine with any POV so long as the story itself is engaging.
Hey writing community, serious question:
First person narrator, thoughts?
I’m thinking of using that for my next book, because it’s a very strange story to begin with and I think it would really accentuate the themes of complicated personhood, the inherent discomfort of being perceived and interpreted by others, and also I think it’s fun to pair first person with an unreliable narrator.
On the other hand, I haven’t written first person POV since high school, and I am not confident I can pull it off at all. Plus, I know it turns off a lot of readers, and the story is already so weird in the first place that I worry that this one would really be written for an audience of a single person (me)!
So anyway I would like to get other people’s opinions ig

Art gift 100! This one is going to a contributor to my Friends of the Earth fundraiser. (Every donation of $5 or more gets a small surprise piece of original bug art in the mail. Not too late to get one.) This is a male goliath beetle. It’s a hero of the environment and the largest beetle in the world, up to 4.3 inches long. Its short life— just a few months—begins as an egg buried in the soil. It goes through three metamorphoses before reaching maturity. As an adult, it likes the sweet life, eats sweet food—tree sap and rotting fruit—though in earlier life it requires more protein and will also eat rotting plant and animal matter, including dung. It plays an important role in the tropical African forest ecosystem, cleaning up garbage and recycling nutrients back into soil. It uses its claws to climb trees, but can also fly with its double set of wings (inner and outer). The goliath beetle is very strong. It can carry loads up to 850 times its own weight. When I grow up, I want to be just like the goliath beetle. (Except for the part about eating dung.) . Goliath beetle, ink on paper, 4.5 x 6.5” - I’m drawing bugs to draw attention to the devastating loss of insect life on earth due to climate change, deforestation, and industrial agriculture. These problems are large scale and require organized efforts to fix, not just individual action. But the good news is, we can join up and support organizations doing the work. Every little bit counts. . . . #insect #insects #insectart #goliathbeetle #beetle #drawing #insectdrawing #markerart #inspiredbynature #recycler #africanwildlife #sweetlife #artforchange #drawingattention #drawingbugs #bug #bugs #anthropocene #massextinction #artivism #artivist #artdaily #artoftheday #drawingoftheday #worksonpaper #wildlife #ecoart #ecoarte #insects_of_our_world #insectlovers https://www.instagram.com/p/CMj_PlNn58D/?igshid=1pzd2m1ni7okt
