There are more important things happening all around the two of them, but being so close to each other is awfully distracting. Never mind the sharp blade between them, they both wish they could get closer, wish they could go back to how it was before.

Levi had sworn to himself he'd make that traitor pay if they were to cross paths again, but when he hears them laugh, sees them smile, sees that something spark in their eyes, he sees- Hange. And Hange is someone he can't bring himself to hurt, no matter how much they already hurt him. So he lets them go, even though he's sure he just got played. Again.

Hange, who had started to accept that this is where they would meet their end, is baffled. But then again, Levi has always been kind under that rough exterior. Far kinder than he should be. So even with the sharp blade pressed to their throat, seeing Levi's familiar mannerisms had made Hange feel right at home. Suddenly, just getting to see him again had felt like a gift, even if it meant finally atoning for their actions. But instead he's walking away and Hange doesn't know what to do.

Got my backpack all dressed up for tomorrow 😌 spent a bit deliberating on where exactly to put everything, but I am satisfied with what I got.

I also did pack an Akira keychain, though it seemed both hard to put on + its connection seemed a little flimsy, so I decided to not go thru the hassle and risk losing him. These vash & wolfwood keychains are pretty solid, & they survived 2 flights and a Lot of walking in my trip last year, so they'll hopefully be fine for this trip, too.

Always a risk to put things on a backpack with a big convention, but it's worth it to me to have them out on display

to list off a few charles-heavy stories though...

Uncanny X-Men #12-13 explores his childhood-into-adulthood, especially his relationship with his family (and cain/juggernaut in particular) and the start of his powers manifesting.

You can also read Professor Xavier and the X-Men #12 for a more condensed version that just focuses on his backstory and is better explored with more 'updated' writing

one bit of charles' early adulthood that isn't mentioned in either of the previous issues is his initial encounter with storm and the shadow king, and his passion for creating the x-men- which you can read in Uncanny X-Men #117!

Uncanny X-Men #20 features the origin of charles losing his mobility against an encounter with long-forgotten nemesis lucifer. if you want to see more of lucifer though, read back to Uncanny X-Men #9 is where charles attempts to confront lucifer by himself until the og5 decide to follow him to europe and get mixed up with the avengers. also a rare instance of charles casually having a gun on him (which he should do more often cause that shit kills me every time)

charles '''''first dies'''''' in the x-men series in Uncanny X-Men #42. he returns in Uncanny X-Men #65 where he Elaborately explains that No He Wasn't Actually Dead/Dying He Just Found Out Aliens Were Coming And Since Ex-Enemy Changeling Was Dying And Wanted To Make Amends He Should Front As Charles While Charles Did Research. these aren't super charles focused all things considered (not any more than the rest of the initial 60's run) but shit makes me laugh…

Defenders #15-16 has charles team up with the likes of doctor strange, hulk, nighthawk, and valkyrie to confront magneto and his brotherhood as theyre on the cusp of encountering magneto’s latest mad-scientist endeavor The Ultimate Mutant alpha (famously the thing that turns mags into an infant). Fun lil ‘sidequest’ and one where charles wears The Cutest lil ascot 😌

Uncanny X-Men 309 is one of my favorite generally-isolated stories that explores his psyche: just shy of scott and jean's wedding charles has a dream wherein erik manifests as his therapist and reflects with him about his past relationships

While it's not ULTRA charles centered, a 'prelude' to 309 is X-Men Unlimited #1 wherein amidst a snowstorm, a 'mysterious figure' (who we quickly learn in 309 was erik) saves charles. Unlimited #1 also just has one of my fave scott/charles interactions, so def worth a read....

Speaking OF scott and jean's wedding though, X-Men (1991) #30 is narrated from charles' perspective and follows him throughout observing the wedding and is great to read once you've finished 309

Excalibur (2004) is a 14-issue run that has charles be a protagonist for-the-most-part alongside erik as they attempt to rebuild genosha. absolutely one of my favorites if not solely for the fact how action-oriented charles gets to be while still maintaining his disability
