And then it cuts to Stan talking to Mabel and he's like "it's okay, I know the future is scary but important things don't have to change."

I think someone has healed a lot better than their identical twin.

Poor Ford.

I have to say that I love the fact that Pacifica had to work at a cafe after Weirdmageddon! I love that girl and I think she deserves better than just a shitty upbringing.

Working and being separated from her parents will do her good.

Do you ever think about how Stanley Pines has spent the majority of his life using names other than his own? The fact he’s been hiding behind aliases since his early 20s? Because I do, and it hurts a lot.

If I was smart enough I would properly dissect the Pines family parallels and how it corresponds with how the Stans treated the twins, specifically how they treated the twin that wasn’t like them.

Stan understanding the bond the two have and encouraging them because thats what he misses, while Ford pushes Dipper away from Mabel because thats what he had at the time with Stan and thinks Dipper needs the same. Once Ford rekindles with Stan is when he grows closer to Mabel.

Stan being rough with Dipper because thats how he treated Ford, while Ford takes longer to bond with Mabel because he sees how much she’s like Stanley.

Both project themselves and the other onto the twins(Ford more so than Stan). They love and care for both of course, but seeing their brother in one of them hurts deeply in opposite ways. Stan is angry but longs for his brother while Ford can’t stand him but still loves him.

So - I’m re watching Gravity Falls bc Danny Motta is reacting to it, and it’s a delightful show.

I got to the dipper clone dance party revolution episode (not the official title but yk) and I was wondering why the printer looked so beat up. That thing wasn’t old, it was demolished.

Then, I wondered if Stan or Ford ever tried copying themselves in order to have the other with them again? What if Stan was distraught and read about the printer in the one journal he had and tried to make a copy of himself to pretend to be Ford. But - like with Dippers arm initially - he couldn’t get a full copy of his whole body, and the copies obviously dissolved in water so they weren’t permanent.

What if Grunkle Stan broke the printer out of desperation and frustration because he couldn’t get a perfect copy of himself to pretend to be Ford?

EDIT: someone posted in their tags in a reblog that Stan wouldn’t expose the twins to something supernatural, and I agree with that. So it must have been Ford who made / found it and destroyed it.

Why would he want a copier like that though? Just curiosity?

EDIT 2: I had not considered Bill using the printer to torment Ford. That is both a horrifying yet tantalizing story to explore!

a lot of people who've watched gravity falls think that stanford is unsympathetic or a bad character, and most of the people who dont think that think stanford is at least selfish and flawed, which i can't really refute, but it always made me feel so awful, and i never realized why until now.

if you look at stanford pines as an allegory for a child with a developmental disability like autism or a "gifted kid", then a lot of the pieces start to fall together.

⚠️spoilers for gravity falls, the website, and maybe a bit of the book of bill⚠️

stanford pines was born with an "extra finger", a symbol for a disability. for a while, everyone thought it was a flaw. he was teased and shunned by his peers,

but then, people began to notice his genius. it even says on thisisnotawebsitedotcom.com, when you enter "sixer" or "stanford", that he has a "hyper-ability", something many people will say about "gifted" autistic people.

as soon as people started to point this out, everything felt like it made sense to ford. as a person who grew up with autism, i can relate to feeling alienated from my peers, and wondering "why? why, in a world made for normal people, was i made wrong?"

that kind of thought can lead to a sort of delusion.. that maybe you were destined for something great. maybe you were different because one day you would use it to change the world. i believe this is the way ford felt when he was approached by bill

bill came to ford and told him everything he'd ever wanted to hear.. that this feeling was real. that he was destined for greatness. that he was better, smarter, more special than the ones who had shunned him.

bill told ford that building the portal would make him a hero, make people finally see him as more than an extra finger. the one problem?

bill was a liar.

he used ford's selfish thoughts to trick him into making a gateway that would end the world. he used the years of mockery, the alienation, the loneliness, and he came to ford when he was alone, trapped, with nowhere to go.

he offered ford the opportunity to get back at a world that was built to knock him down at every turn, a world full of people who would never understand him. he offered to make ford a god.

and ford refused

he refused, even in a world that had done nothing but tear him down, to hurt others just to feel better about himself. he only had a few people who had ever cared for him, and yet, he was willing to destroy his life's work to save everyone who had made him miserable.

remember, he fully intended to stay trapped in the portal for all of eternity. that's why he was so frustrated when stanley brought him back. what we saw as a heroic act from stanley, ford saw as stanley refusing the sacrifice he had made to save him. he didn't thank stanley because nobody thanked him. no one thanked him for his hard work or sacrifice or his years of suffering just to protect stanley.

that, of course, led to this scene, which many people saw as stanford's most frustrating moment.

i think this post sums up really well why stanford, in this dire moment, would choose to insult his brother. because stanley was being selfish, too. stanley refused to help save the world, save his brother, all because ford never said "thank you."

they were both selfish. everyone is. they didn't fight because they were bad people, but because they both saw things from their own perspective. they were each hopelessly lonely without each other, but both too prideful to admit it.

in the end, they make up, and both follow their true dream. not money, not fame, just staying together.

stanford pines is not a bad, unsympathetic character. he is a complex, misdirected, "gifted" child. his only flaw was not seeing that he wasn't alone. his family was right there to support him the whole time.

Pines Twins Parallelisms

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who thought about the parallelisms of the oh-so untouched dynamics of Ford and Mabel, and Stan and Dipper, but humor me.

In a previous post, I mentioned Mabel is a mini-Ford in Stan’s font and Dipper being a Stan Jr. in Ford’s flair so here’s my take.

Mabel is just like Ford because, other than being the sweater-loving older twin that would always add something to in their diary/scrapbook, her mind is the only other stand-out to the Bill Cipher other than Ford's. He took genuine interest to her mindscape.

As for Dipper, he's so much like Stan. No book? Left hook!

Both Dipper and Mabel mirror the different aspects of Ford's mind and Stan's heart. Let's start with the obvious:

Dipper has Ford's academic mind and craving for problem-solving adventure.

While Mabel has Stan's emotional capacity to know what to do to the things left unsaid.

And now for the other way around:

Mabel has Ford's mental fortitude to face the unknown with the optimistic belief that they'll survive it all just so that they can record it on paper.

And Dipper has Stan's immovable tenacity to protect the family he loves so dearly, no matter how dangerous or afraid he is. For them, he'll do it all.

I just love them so much how can I be normal about it.

Who did the Pines think they were sending their children to? I mean they thought it was Stanford, yes... But like

Haven't they heard anything about anything?

Did anyone ever tell them anything?

Because if someone told me; "oh btw, your uncle had absolutely lost his mind in the woods and locked himself in, then from one day to the other dressed completely differently and seemed a bit calmer but eventually started to act against the law (again), and also started a business build on lies... oh and he also had a phase were his eyes glowed yellow"

I WOULD NOT SEND MY CHILDREN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE

And if not... Who is sending their kids to a complete stranger either?

I'm always shocked when I watch the GF Shorts that Dipper plays the tuba. I forget every single time. Somehow it makes sense??? He does kinda feel like a tuba kid.

Alone Together Au (except it’s the other half left behind)

In which both Stanford and Fiddleford fall through the portal and both Stan and Emma May work together to bring them back (even with two people it still takes thirty years, oops)

Together though they keep a marriage of convenience so that the town doesn’t suspect anything odd of them. Everyone still thinks Stan is Stanford and Emma May simply says she got a divorce from her old husband and remarried

“Come one, come call, to see the awe inspiring ability of Madame Mystery! Only 30 bucks a pop, and there ain’t no refunds, the spirits hate refunds~“

Emma May works as a sort of telepath and psychic medium in the mystery shack before the Gleeful’s rolled into town. Her true inspiration however is from the twins mother, Caryn. She recalls all of her tricks and swindles she watched the woman do when she was younger and was happy to apply them for herself <3

All together though her get up resembles much more of a fairy godmother type appeal than anything else (which Mabel loves)

Even though Stan and Em were friends in the past it was still undoubtedly difficult to yknow, pass as a married couple at first.

Eventually they pulled it off effortlessly in public, but there’s still a lot of emotional turmoil behind closed doors. Em missing her actual husband desperately and Stan having to juggle that, Tate’s bitterness towards him, and the fake identity

They don’t hate each other or anything though, quite the opposite, they feel they’re the only support the other has after Tate moved out to live by the lake. Ultimately at the end of the day while it seems they’re just a ‘bitter old married couple’ they’ll be the first to back each other up

Emma May acquired a pretty nasty scar after the portal incident, so she began to style her bangs over her eyes to prevent anyone from seeing them. The only one who occasionally does is Stan, but when you’re working into the ams on a portal you can’t comprehend it’s hard to care too much about said scar

But this doesn’t stop Dipper from speculating what she could be hiding under the bangs

“I don’t know, but I reckon it feels like the end of the world.”

In order to convince Stan to come to Gravity Falls, Em sends the postcard copying Fords handwriting to bait him to Oregon. Once he shows up though he’s shocked to find his brother actually didn’t want to see him at all and it was instead her who wants to talk

She promptly explains she needs backup confronting Ford and Fiddleford because while she can get through to Fiddleford she worries no one can get through to Ford. Her last resort was asking for Stans help

Things do not..go very well though. Ford and Stan still fight, Fiddleford tries to break them up and accidentally gets shoved alongside Ford. Meanwhile Em is the only one close enough for Stan to actually grab hold of before the portal shuts off and the two are left alone together

And then the last silly detail atm regarding Tate

He blames him for his father falling through the portal and he absolutely detests the ‘uncle/friendly paternal’ type role he tries to fill as he grows up

He can’t help but feel bitter towards his mother as well considering she was so quick to marry Stan as well, even with the context of the situation, even if it was just on paper, even if he knows they’re working to get the two back. It still felt like a betrayal

Once he was old enough he moved out to live by the lake where he eventually opens his tackle shop, but fishing isn’t exactly the only job he has

Knowing Tate is potentially even more intelligent than his father he found the memory gun when he was around the twins age, made himself leader of the society of the blind eye as he’s ‘the heir’, and promptly continues to run the cult in the bg as he feels it’s what his dad would want him to do

you know, i always wanted to treat bill as a guy who just wants to do evil. he's a fucked up, that's all. but after book i was torn in two, because bill is exactly the kind of character i don't want to feel sorry for.

but you read the book and... "oh my baby...you have PTSD...and an identity crisis...”. that kind of thing…🥹

You ever notice how when Ford points the quantum destabilizer at Bill the target outline fits perfectly around Bill's body, which that fact on its own doesn't bare much significance becuase of course it fits, Ford made the damn thing to kill specifically that triangle bastard, it's meant to wipe him out entirely, shoot through all of him at once so there's nothing to remain, of course it's a perfect fit, but then you've gotta notice there was something that would've remained. The outline didn't include his hat

Ford left Bill's hat out of the equation, and we know how smart Ford is, he would have included it if he wanted it gone, he wouldn't have just forgotten it, he wouldn't have hesitated to add it to the outline so that he could be certain it'd be hit too. But we also know he knows where the particle is, he knows it's in the hat, we know he knows how much it means to Bill

Which means even when Ford was more than ready to wipe Bill out entirely, to finally kill the being who had caused him so much turmoil, he still couldn't bring himself to destroy something that meant so much to Bill, something -if the only thing- that served as evidence that Bill was capable of caring, that he had the capacity to love something once

I've been thinking about Ford from Gravity Falls. He put metal plate in his head to keep Bill out.

It was around the 70s...and Ford was into anomalies, right? So...why didn't he try the tinfoil hat to ward against aliens? Wouldn't it have worked?

I know tinfoil is different then metal, but when faced with a trillion-year-old nightmare demon I think you would try anything.
