To all my amazing clients, followers, friends and family. WE NEED YOUR HELP!! Many people will be unaware that there is a significant push from a group of doctors in Australia to stop nurses from administering cosmetic injectables, and for us nurse practitioners, to cease our rights to prescribe the scheduled drugs used for these cosmetic treatments, unless there is a doctor onsite at all times. Nurse practitioners especially, are highly qualified and skilled. Myself and many other nurses have in fact helped train some of these these doctors and surgeons to perform cosmetic treatments! A cosmetic nurse practitioner attains a masters degree of advance nursing, with a proven record of over 5000 clinical hours. We are endorsed and given legislative rights to prescribe. These changes will strip away these rights. Did you know a GP can do a two day training course and then they are deemed “safe to inject”? There has not been one instance of NPs providing unsafe care. Therefore, this is about one political lobby group, money and influence. The arguement for these changes is happening under the guise of patient safety which implies that patients receiving these treatments are less safe when being treated by a nurse or nurse practitioner. We all know this is NOT true and making these specific changes will not make any difference to patient safety. I am in favour of modifications to the industry that genuinely improves patient safety, however, removing nurses ability to treat without a doctor onsite or preventing us NPs from prescribing does not improve safety, it merely makes treatments for patients more difficult to access as well as A LOT more expensive. Tonight, in #Cairns is the premier of the #documentary Guarding The Galilee, which talks of the need to protect sites from #mining companies such as #Adani and #GVKHankok The proposal for the #Carmichael mine will mean the #heritage site #GBR and protected native land is at the hands of monsters with mega-tonne machines who will stop at nothing to turf out those dirty black rocks. Everything is at risk here, and nothing seems to be enough to make a change.
