Idk about y'all but the accidental betrayal of any kind is so interesting to me.

An oc lost to themself ending up hurting someone they care about, in transformation or hasty action

Being tricked into harming someone close, not watching where you step

Or even just a slip up like knocking your borrower friend off the table with your hand while you reach for something

That inadvertent hurt feels like it can tie two characters together in a way that either breaks or strengthens their bond, that brief period of no longer having a mutual understanding before accepting what happened happened.

Bonus if it isnt even the little one whose scared but the big, can you imagine your leg is broken but your friend refuses to be near you cause they broke it, you need them but they are more afraid than you ever were...

Whats a g/t trope y'all genuinely hate, but is considered a "hot take"

For me it's borrower stories, specifically those that always follow the same formula and never get creative.

As in, borrower is outside looking for food or smt, somehow gets into a situation where they are trapped, human finds them, borrower is scared and tries to flee, yet gets trapped under a glsss, with the human assuring them that they're kind and won't harm them. Then after a few chapters, the borrower leaves behind all the fear they held for humans and becomes close friends with them (this especially throws me off whenever the borrower has had a friend or a family member be killed by a human). They usually also meet their friends who are also super nice.

I understand that most humans wouldn't be out here tormenting a tiny person they found, but I honestly don't get the hype behind stories where it's only fluff and basically almost always the same plot.

The human characters are usually the most boring to read about, which is a huge let down for me. Especially as, it feels weird that I've yet to see a borrower story where the human genuinely freaks out that a tiny person has been watching them all along.

I mean how disturbing is it to know that you were being watched all this time, that you were never truly alone. Including in moments where you were feeling down.

For more interesting prompts, you could have the human actually be someone insane, that sees the borrower as nothing more than another experiment or something to exploit for money, with the borrower showing them that they are sentient, yet, perhaps, due to sn inability to understand each other, the humans doesn't understand what they're doing.

Or

Have the borrower have a whole web of crime with other borrowers, where they purposefully steal things from humans to make their days just a little more upsetting. Getting back at them for, maybe, having hunted them in the past. Have borrowers actually be evil little gremlins or something.

Heck, maybe even have the two be criminals, with the borrower helping breaking into people's houses and spying on them, to see who has the best stuff to steal from and the human doing the rest.

And if you do give your borrower a sadder backstory, please please please let them deal with their trauma and not completely remove it for fluff. Have them have moments where they feel inferior and break down, rushing back to their holes regardless of if the human is being nice or not. Let the human get frustrated with the borrower for not fully trusting them, not knowing the full story. LET THEM HAVE TENSE MOMENTS WITH EACH OTHER. I WANT TO SEE THEM FIGHT

MAKE THEM HAVE CLASHING PERSONALITIES WHERE THEY OFTEN GET INTO HEATED ARGUMENTS

I like to imagine that since the gt community is so small there are two siblings in the community that are here, and because gt is gt neither has told the other so they aren't aware their sibling is there, then they become moots and good friends and the first time the make a video call or show their face it's like WAIT ________, YOU LIKE GT?

like sometimes it's lighthearted and funny and it's fine when it's self-targeted of course, but a lot of it just comes off as:

1. straight up unfiltered jock v geek bullying

2. weird misogynistic and binarist jokes about stereotypically male/female interests being unappealing to the other gender (often in a way that feels like stealth misgendering/bioessentialism)

3. "i hate my wife and everything she's interested in" style heteronormative humor

and idk it's just getting kind of exhausting to see it everywhere, particularly when it comes from people who claim to be allies or from other queer groups across the aisle

ok so what do you think goes thru your trans partner/love interest/friend's head when they hear stuff like this?

you don't love them enough to learn about their interests? their hobbies, their favorite games? you hate what your gf does in her free time because its so stupid? your gf and all her friends like the same exact thing, bc of their gender, and you're mocking it at her expense? what would these things feel like coming from a cis dude towards cis women about stereotypical "cis woman interests?"

if you don't love them enough to respect their hobbies, what will you love them enough to do?

will you love them enough to keep loving them even if their appearance changes? will you love them enough to stay together even if your marriage becomes illegal? will you love them enough to move away with them if your hometown becomes too dangerous for them to stay? will you love them enough to stand by them against your family, friends, and peers if they're rejected?

grow the fuck up and stop pretending that negging is funny and cool if you make it Queer Coded. it's worse, actually. trans people have so much shit to worry about 24/7 can we normalize making more jokes about how Awesome and Cool they are instead?

having a g/t hyperfixation or special interest is so hard, it’s all i think about but the one thing i don’t talk about like i can’t talk about it to anyone except for random ppl on tumblr, but i mean i CAN talk about it but it’s not rlly normalized soooooo. i don’t even like to watch gt things with other ppl bcz i just feel uncomfortable. gt is often viewed as a fetish and i know wanting to hide it makes it seem even worse but i just feel like i have to for some reason. gt is all that occupies my mind like if u see me spaced out i’m thinking about gt i always am, it just gets tiring not being able to go on rants to ppl irl.

I just had a g/t tought:

So character A is a human who is VERY tall and often feels out of place and to big when he is with people he is also strong and sometimes he hurts people on accident and in top of that he has anger issues so he is a BIG, scary and unstable guy right?

Then there is character B he is a curious, brave and kinda prideful guy, he is a borrower(ngl I prefer fairies as mains but sometimes borrowers just fit better) and lets say character B gets in a terrible accident while borrowing and breaks his leg or smth, character A enters his house and sees a borrower sized pool of blood and a 15 something year old 3 inch child on his counter

Now he has to deal with a tiny person with makes him feel worse about his size and he is scared of even touching him but character B quickly trusts him more than A trusts himself.

And one day A enters his home intoxicated and B wants the uppies but A refuses B pushes him and the human intending to move him away pushes him over the counter with his finger and he gets more badly hurt than before( he doesnt die because i'm pretty sure it's a non lethal fall thanks to terminal velocity) A HAS to take care of him now which is even scarier than before and B doesnt want to admit he was scared so he just shrugs it off and acts like nothing happened, trauma healing time next?

Two Questions about your pirate au: 1. Does Q have any trauma about indulging into his instincts after getting captured? (The whole thing about the avian’s that’s lost their sentience is so cool/freaky/horrifying from a world building perspective) 2. What happens when Sapnap transforms for the first time? (Is it his choice? Is tgere angst? How does he react? Dies he get father-son bonding time with BBH?)

1. Oh absolutely. He spent a really long time having to convince himself daily that he was a person. He was around so many humans and brainwashed “domesticated” avians that thought he was an animal, the only people he could look to were the other captured avians. And even then, most of them had been broken to the point where they wouldn’t talk to him. He lived like that for 2 years until he finally met Schlatt, and even then, he pretended to be more animal than he was to Schlatt’s boss/his “owner” for the next year until he escaped.

Joining Bad and Puffy’s crew helped. It was the first time in his life that he was fully surrounded by other hybrids and magic creatures. They all had different instincts and everyone was mutually respected for what made them unique. Still, after living so long being treated as lesser, a positive environment wasn’t going to change all of it. Initially after he joined the pirate crew he hated making any bird noises since he used to only chirp to prove that he was obedient, which he hated since his natural language that he grew up with was birdsong. He hated the idea of losing that part of him but he hated the idea of not being seen as his own person more, so he spoke in strictly in human languages for a while. Schlatt helped him feel better about instinctual noises and needing certain things (like his wings being preened), but there was only so much Schlatt could do. He was Quackity’s best friend, of course, but he was a human sized hybrid with another ram on board; he wasn’t as animal as Q by nature, and he had a sister who knew what he was going through. Quackity felt utterly alone.

Things changed when he grew closer with Karl. Karl was one of the first people on the ship to teach Quackity how to be a pirate and spend genuine quality time getting to know him. He confided in Q that he felt lonely, given how few others of his species there were. He felt alienated from the more human-minded hybrids on board because he was incredibly instinct driven, more so than most of the crew. Quackity understood that; despite how human he tried to be, he just wasn’t. He couldn’t change that. All he could do was put his own needs aside to try and fit a more human perception of him better. But Karl tried to convince him that he didn’t need to anymore. It was hard to take seriously when it came from Karl, though, who was sweet, handsome, loyal, talented, and an obviously valued member of the crew. So Quackity didn’t take to the lesson at first, until Karl made him a bet: he guessed that Quackity couldn’t guess what he was. He implored Q to actually look at how he acted, how his instincts affected himself and the people around him, and to guess what creature he was. Q took the bet, and began to pay more attention to how Karl behaved, keeping in mind that he was more instinct driven than he’d first assumed.

Slowly but surely, Quackity saw the negativities shine through: Karl was jealous, easily irritable and prone to bursts of violence if he was in the wrong headspace (though he apologized profusely afterwards). He was a hoarder and thief, frequently snatching jewelry and valuables from crewmates without even realizing he’d done it. He was vain, and if his hair or clothes became a mess he was damn near inconsolable. His nesting instincts had a horrible control over him, and Quackity knew how finicky nesting instincts could be from personal experience. He was loyal to a frightening degree; if anyone stepped up to his crew, he had a knife at their neck almost instantly, almost like he was excited at the idea of taking a life to defend someone he cared about. But the crew didn’t care. They never complained about being dragged into a pile with him, never held a grudge over any lost gems, never looked fearful of him when he got so angry he almost killed someone. He was treated well despite it all.

Quackity eventually relayed what he’d learned to Karl, who was equal parts embarrassed and impressed that Q pinned him so thoroughly. Still, though, Quackity didn’t know what he was. He’d traveled around the world a good bit before his capture, but had never seen someone like Karl before. Karl said that wasn’t the point: the point of the bet was to make Quackity see that despite all of the problems he brings to the crew, despite how inconvenient he can be to deal with when his instincts got the better of him, they loved him regardless, and they would love Quackity, too.

Quackity started taking care of himself better after that. He and Karl (who he learned at some point was a dragon, which Karl counted on him not guessing because there were very few dragons out there, and even less that didn’t live in hidden solitude) grew much closer and developed feelings for each other. But one of the biggest steps forward in Q’s recovery was the necklace that Karl enchanted and gifted him, allowing him to be human sized whenever he wore it. It helped him finally feel like an equal being to the rest of the crew. He’s slowly but surely making peace with his natural size, but it’s much easier to feel good about his bird qualities while he’s human sized. So he’s facing one problem at a time for now.

2. So i have vague ideas for how he transforms for the first time, which i’ll hopefully write at some point so i don’t wanna give too much away, but the one constant through all my ideas is that it’s not on purpose. For any reason. He doesn’t like mers, he doesn’t want to be a mer. Growing up in the navy, Dream, George, and Sapnap were taught that mers were basically rabid dogs: they were monsters that preyed on poor seagoers and not a single one deserved to live. They hid almost all of Sapnap’s mer traits through cursed wrist and ankle cuffs that kept him from transforming when in contact with water and earrings with a cloaking spell that hid his fin-like ears. No one had any clue he was a mer, least of all him, until he met Bad.

Speaking of Bad, Sapnap doesn’t want to bond with him at all. Dream and Sapnap grew up not knowing that their parents were pirates, but thinking they had been kidnapped by pirates and that the navy had saved them. The navy told them that the pirates they were taken from were evil murderers that killed their original parents and brainwashed them into being evil as well. In actuality, the navy kidnapped Dream and Sapnap when they were very young and stole them from Bad, Puffy, and the rest of the crew at the time. The pirates tried numerous times to take their kids back, but nothing ever worked. They were caught every time and almost hung every time, though they kept miraculously escaping. Eventually the navy gave them an ultimatum: leave the kids alone or they’d die. It wasn’t worth the navy’s troubles to keep the kids alive if they’d constantly have pirates fighting to take them back. So Bad and Puffy had to relent, leaving their kids to be raised by the enemy to spare their lives.

That’s one of the worst parts for Dream and Sapnap: for years the Dteam and Puffy’s ship had fought, and all that time Bad and Puffy had known that they were fighting their own kids, but Dream and Sapnap didn’t remember. They knew them as the pirates that killed their parents. They knew that Puffy’s crew was tricky and often deadly, but they thought they were too skilled for the pirates. In truth, everyone on board had strict orders not to kill Dream’s crew, and not to hurt Dream or Sapnap specifically. The pirate crew had been getting into trouble in Dream’s crew’s territory so they could check in on the kids they’d been forced to leave behind. Puffy and her crew had been sparing them for years.

So basically, along with getting used to the idea that he’s not human, Sapnap is still getting used to the idea that the pirate he’d thought had killed his parents was actually his dad. He feels a lot of betrayal at the idea that his dad had been around this whole time without him knowing, despite knowing that Bad couldn’t have told him. A lot of his anger at the navy also gets misdirected towards Bad at this point because he just doesn’t have anyone else to be mad at. His hatred of pirates and mers and his ingrained loyalty to the navy (despite having been the most willing to runaway) keeps him from actually getting along with Bad for a long time.
