single dad haechan who invites you into his apartment that he’s more than embarrassed by. boxes. so many fucking baby product boxes. clothes. little pink and yellow baby clothes everywhere, some clean, some dirty, some worthy of being burned. beer. just one bottle of beer that he gave into drinking a couple nights before. pamphlets from the hospital. notebook paper covered in scribbles during late night phone calls with his mother. a box of tissues that used to be helpful for an entirely different reason. close to zero signs of food. he needs to fucking eat something.

single dad haechan who apologies for the mess his vulnerability and asks you kindly to put everything on the table.

single dad haechan who mixes formula with his daughter strapped to his chest, and she’s so beautiful. you tell him so. all he does is smile and kiss the top of her head.

single dad haechan who asks you to wait while he finishes feeding her before putting her down and returns with his fingers attempting to knead one of many shoulder knots.

single dad haechan who just looks at you in his kitchen, cleaning things up and getting started on dinner.

single dad haechan who’s hit by a rush of memories, remembering all the months he tried pursuing you, but it never became anything. you have always been too good for him, especially now. he’s a mess. he needs a haircut. he’s been wearing the same shirt for three days. fuck, does he reek?

single dad haechan who asks if he can help and all you do is laugh before nodding to the living room. “take a breather, daddy.”

single dad haechan who rests his forehead against the closest cabinet door, exhaling deeply and dramatically. “please don’t call me that.”

single dad haechan who feels the air get knocked out of him when you turn away from the cutting board and walk closer, take his hand in yours. you search his eyes for something familiar, for that spark you fell in love with, for the first sign of his incoming teasing, for the warmth that calmed the rushing current in your mind so many more times than he could possibly know. “you’re doing amazing, donghyuck.”

single dad haechan whose lips part, and he has to look away, already shaking his head before he can fight the urge to do so. your touch finds his chin, finds his jaw and the apple of his cheek, pulling his gaze back to your face and honest eyes.

omg and i’ve been thinking about how sm is gonna handle his promotions. ngl i’m lwk scared. they didn’t even announced his ost properly, posted it on ig stories couple of times and left it there. so i’m really curious if he has prepared something and has at least some say in it or no. i saw he wants to do some (funny?) videos. he also talked about gaming content and i remember him talking about vlogs but he doesn’t have time for them. i miss 37.5.hrs haechan cam and radio :(

has hc always been the entity? like, since birth? IF YES, has he always been into the reader? did he plan to lure them into his world or was that just a coincidence? did he plan what happened at the mirror maze too???!!! IF NOT, how did he become the entity? did that happen after he made that deal to bring mk back to life? is this like this cycle thing where the actual entity goes from one host to another and shi like that??!! MY HEAD'S BEEN RUNNING NON STOP!!!!! 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 it just goes to show how amazing of a writer you are. I'm SOOO looking forward to ur next post 🙏🙏🙂‍↕️

im v proud of the story bc i had sm fun writing it and thrillers are my favorite to write, so it means a lot fr. i left it open for interpretation but i did write it with the intent of hc not being a trustworthy character and reader being too clueless to realize lmao.

my interpretation is: hc did get himself in that situation, the entity being himself bc of his power, he has too much of it to handle, he was never to be trusted. he can’t handle NOT having control, ex: with mark when they had their argument, hc felt powerless therefore using everything he had to make a point but ended up effing himself and mark over. i’d also like to think their argument was about haechans change in demeanor and mark wanted to help him/address it but hc’s ego got in the way which is why he won’t explain a lot of details abt the argument to reader.

he ALWAYS gets what he wants and he will find a way to take what he thinks is his. he knew about readers presence at the carnival before he laid eyes on her bc he felt her energy and bc she was already vulnerable since the start of the story he saw her like a squeaky new toy. although he’s the cause of all of this, the sad part is, he really doesn’t know that he’s the problem. therefore he swears it has to be something else. that’s also why he was so attached to the spellbook bc that’s his source for everything.

it goes to show that no matter if reader was there or not he will always find himself in a repetitive cycle of something, whether it was the circus or not (the new cycle being forever trapped with reader and the previous cycle of being addicted to power and not being able to stop).

he’s immune to the mirror maze bc everything was built off his own magic so he won’t be able to see anything that he’s already seen. he’s not able to break the curse on his own bc he’s truly not aware tht he did this to himself.

the souls like jeno, chenle, jaemin, and readers parents are all lost spirits from the town who unfortunately are being used by hc.

reader was able to see everything bc of her vulnerable state and bc of the affects of the blood moon. it could’ve happened to anyone, she was just unlucky. i kinda wanted to show that reader has horrible luck.

reader was lured into hc’s world to show they have always been equally cursed in life which is why their connection is so strong.

but then again thats all my interpretation. i say just bc i wrote it doesn’t mean it has to be 100% true. i didn’t address a lot of that in the story bc theres so many amazing plotlines that could fit into it, i want everyone to have their own version.

you giggle, running your fingers through his hair again. you couldn’t count how many times they’ve been enveloped by his soft strands as he lays beside you, head on your stomach, watching your face when his eyes aren’t closed. “you’re sleepy,” you sing, lengthening the world playfully.

“doesn’t mean you aren’t beautiful. spring looks good on you.” he turns his head to kiss the cotton of your shirt, cotton that’s keeping his lips from reaching the soft skin beneath it. donghyuck squeezes you tighter, exhaling deeply and smiling as the air leaves his lungs.

“what is it now? is some sweet dream tempting you?”

“this is my sweet dream. missed you so much. too hard to be away from you.” hyuck opens his eyes again, just barely, tilting his head back so he can see you through their droopiness. you can’t help but coo and lean forward to kiss his forehead.

“it goes both ways, i promise you.”

your boyfriend hums and sits up, catching you off guard as his cozy warmth gains distance from your figure. “let me hold you. stay there for a second.” donghyuck squeezes you thigh before turning his attention to your queen-sized bed.

adoration consumes all of your features as you watch him fluff pillows, rearrange your favorite plushies, and straighten the blanket before scooting down the bed and settling into a comfortable position. his hair fans the pillow—it’s getting perfectly long again. “ok, sweetheart. i’m ready for you.”

you can’t help but squeal when you attach yourself to donghyuck, moaning the moment your face makes contact with his chest. his perfume is so sweet with the lightest notes of something rich and musky—the combination is lovely. he laughs, “you’re adorable,” before draping his leg over your torso as if you need to be trapped to stay.

“comfy?” you wonder, nuzzling your nose against his neck, knowing there’s a mole your touch is finding.

“mmm, you?”

“the most comfy.” he massages your scalp, diving into a silly story from tour that he meant to tell you over breakfast before a call from work rudely interrupted. your sweet boy falls asleep halfway through the retelling, and you’re not far behind.

Ummmmm mini review even though I can't fully express how much I LOVED this fic.

tbh this is probably one of the best e2l fics I've read ever like Im not even exaggerating. it was done so well and everything about the reason why they were like that was understandable like it was really well thought out

alsoalso the way the playlist made it seem like a written out movie like 😭

the dynamics between reader and hyuck just made the relationship between them so much more fun to follow

literally the humour made me actually laugh and idk ig that shows how immersed I was when i was reading this,, like the comments and shi especially when the kid said "doo-doo" I remember laughing so fkn hard (but silently bc it was like 4 in the morning)

Its like,,, a sort of modern romeo and juliet type story with the families being enemies in a way (but with a happy ending) and when they were like sneaking out and stuff to go look at the stars I literally wanted to PUNCH AIR right then and there IT WAS SO CUTE

love how y/n was like a badass in this cause period we love to see that (except for when she got scared that one part but that was a mood I woulda passed out)
