( markus, nineteen, he/him, cst. )

so, let’s start from the beginning, where all full stories rightfully have to. born to a hunter and housewife, he was the third of three children and was the first girl of the family.  his innocence could only last so long with the corruption in his bloodlines, an ancestry of hunters stretching many years through the hyun family and long standing supporters of the ju jak cause. it was a poison that was passed down to each generation when they matured and he would be no different.

his parents had been fairly lax, bringing his twin brothers up, two years his senior, but they toughened up when he was born. jitae was expected to be their picture-perfect child, ideally one who would marry into another family of hunters to keep the lineage going, seek out magi and do as he was told. from a young age, a gender divide was very much enforced upon him ; he was told that pink was for girls, blue was for boys and all the other ridiculous stereotypes. he wasn’t allowed to play with his brothers’ toys, even though he clearly had a much higher interest in them. they insisted on having him wear skirts, even though all he really wanted to do was steal his brothers’ shirts.

his father was always far too busy to be emotionally involved with anything he was up to, his mother, though she held the same ideals as his father did, was much more encouraging – even when he seemed to only want to throw mud outside with his brothers or spend his time sat quietly maneuvering small bugs around his hands. life seemed easier then, and if you ever were to ask he’d like to come back to here, the fragile and comfortable age of five.

at nine, he officially ditches his full name and takes on the shorter, snappier shortening of it, blatantly ignoring anything else. he also ditches a lot that was forced onto him, and begins to slowly tarnish the image that has been built around him – the first step in that is cutting off long, brilliant locks with a pair of safety scissors. ( he’s grounded for a solid month for that particular endeavor after a rather long beating, but they at least take him to a barber to clean up the botched job. )

up until he was about thirteen, the veil over his eyes remained. he’d always been warned to not get to curious what his father got up to in the late hours of the night, or why his brothers always went with him. up until then – and then shit starts to hit the fan when he is thrown head first into long training sessions. he finds comfort in ripped jeans and stolen shirts, cardigans and hoodies have become his safety net. at least, he surmises, he has this one thing that he could have for his own. ( even that was something borrowed, snagged from his brothers’ closets. )  his mother seems to catch on, discreetly leaves recently bought t-shirts sprinkled within his wardrobe. he dyes his hair blonde for a few months, not without strong opposition, before returning to his natural black – he’s experimenting, more than anything else, wants to smash as many of the buttons set in front of him as possible and come into his own instead of the mold he was crammed into. teacher often being an older cousin, or his elder brothers the days his father will allow, endurance and agility training quickly become his daily after-school activity. knives and hand-to-hand combat were his favorite though, each unfortunate mistake earned him a new nick or a bloodied lip when he wasn’t quite fast enough. wasn’t quite good enough. ( even though he resented his father, he wanted him to be proud. )

at fifteen, he starts sneaking out with his elder brothers whenever they can manage. instead of paying attention to their father’s long lectures on preparation and being adaptable, the three sit outside and complain together. his brothers smoke cheap cigarettes that they buy with their minimum wage ; he steals a drag here and there, and makes his brothers swear not to tell. ( he doesn’t really care if they do, though. maybe hopes that they did. )  gets much too competitive during short spars and more than satisfied when he can manage to beat any of his older relatives.

seventeen brings a new form of rebellion, but most notably confusion about his identity. his brothers wholeheartedly accept his requests to refer to him by jitae but his father remained adamant and bigoted in his ways. outbursts aimed at him became frequent, to be dubbed unfit for the family had brought more than feelings of rage within jitae but snapped something he didn’t know he had. halfway through that seventeenth year, he’s arrested for defacing of property. ( he may or may not have painted profanity in bold red letters on some unsuspecting victim’s vehicle. ) in homage to his first arrest, many long summer days spent doing community service.

at eighteen, it seems as if all the world’s anger has seeped into his body. where mischief and joy once lingered, pure hatred for the situation around him blackens his entire being. he starts getting into fistfights, and comes home ( more often than not ) at three in the morning. if his parents wanted to disown him before, they’re on the verge of it now ; they can’t stand who he has become, and it all comes to a very ugly head when he brings a girl home and his parents find out.

everything seems to click into place, somehow working in his favor that makes even his nihilism fall silent. his father gives up the prospect of the short fuse having any use as a hunter, and that’s his chance and he takes it. flees their family home with well wishes from his older brothers who offer him a hand, an out. he politely declined, his pride always more prominent that the two combined. he lives in something like peace, it’s quiet and almost maddeningly so but he maybe can equate that to comfort. eventually manages to get access to hormone therapy, taking up a job as a cashier for some local understaffed business that was understaffed. he manages, daily phone calls to his concerned mother who’s always sure to tell him that his father still does love him. ( fat chance, he’d always butt in before she can finish the phrase. )  

easing into a monotonous pattern of life comes with great difficulty but he does manage, heads to the gym near religiously everyday to work away any stresses. learning to loosen when strangers smile at him, even smiles back some days. things were fine, a little rough but fine. he’s on the cusp of twenty-four when he gets the call from his hysteric mother, his father has been killed. things.. things change then. he heads back home because he cannot abandon his mother there and leave grief to eat away at her. ( like slipping on an old glove- it fits perfectly yet it was unfamiliar. he thinks maybe this is how life truly spits in his face. ) what comes next can only be described as a domino effect.

he takes up the torch, when he knows he shouldn’t and even with the reasoning voices of his brothers. he had fallen back into the cavern he worked so hard to crawl out of, a stout pillar of the ju jak standard all over again. he is certain he doesn’t have the strength to make the climb up a second time. he keeps a pistol holstered to his thigh, a trained eye on everyone around him. heavy circles are a stain under his eyes, the scars that litter the canvas of his body remind of a past almost escaped. ( something screams that this is what he was made for, BORN FOR. NOW HERE’S THE KICKER ; he knows that once he slips, he will not rise & will only greet depravity like an old friend. )

but he doesn’t. with the reappearance of a certain elder hyun, the decision to drop his role as a hunter, fall from the ju jak emerges and it doesn’t take much deliberation on his part. he leaves, abandons the cause and everything he once stood for. (  thought he stood for; CONVINCED himself he stood for. )  joins the police to stand alongside his older brother.

personality-wise ? he’s STILL an absolute shit most of the time, pretty abrasive. y’know, rubs just about everyone and their grandmother the wrong way. he’s aggressively opinionated and he’ll break your goddamn nose if you try to pull any shit on him or his loved ones.

curses like an absolute sailor.. every other word is likely a swear.

☾✧･ﾟ:「 lee donghyuck. cis male. he/him. 」did you know that there’s a wizard in haneul known as kwon hanbin? they have been living here for their entire life and is a necromancer. they are currently eighteen and is a student at crocus institute of higher magic in the house valerian. i heard that they are known to be insolent, but worry not ! i heard they are also very perceptive too. remember to stay out of trouble, the ju jak are lurking around every corner !

first things first: hanbin rarely feels any guilt at all for the terror he induces because most of the time he believes he’s right ( he’s not )

that being said ! let’s meet kwon hanbin, born to a family of, believe it or not, magi folk ! however, the main difference was that his father specialized in potions, his mother in herbology, and little hanbin ?

let’s just say mrs kwon’s scream when she found her two year old son surrounded by animated skeletons was ear piercing, to say the least

blessed - or NOT so blessed - with the gift of necromancy, from a young age, hanbin was already seen as someone that people were a little wary of although his parents were fortunately understanding of his abilities. after all, people’s automatic views were: who could trust a child with the undead on their side ?

growing up, his parents reminded him constantly of his roots and origins, which derived from one of the original groups of magi folk that were pushed out in the joseon era. his family was usually full of herbologists or healers or potion masters, and so when they were ostracized they felt deep injustice as they had done nothing but helped humans

which is what hanbin’s parents told him about as they believed origin was vital for a wizard to improve

and so it was no surprise that as he matured, his resentment against humans only increased

made worse when he was eight years old and chased through the woods by some human children during hide and seek, who later left him to travel back to his house when it was dark. when he thinks about it, it may seem petty to him now but he still hasn’t quite forgiven them for making him feel absolutely terrified

from that day on, hanbin vc: you either terrify people or have them terrify you

adopted a pretty solid ‘it’s a dog eats dog world’ personality and his pessimism from when he was a child never full left him. in fact, it probably got worse and leaves him constantly grouchy in school, although he calls that his paying attention face

the way to his heart is through snacks or constantly listening to him complaining about some tiny incident that had happened an hour ago that he’s already half forgotten but just let him SPEAK please he’s 174cm of hot burning anger and power

has a sharp mind but an even sharper tongue !! likes letting people get so riled up by him that they forget what he’s capable of and, while he gets antsy and more irritated than usual if he doesn’t use his abilities for a while, he prefers to attack more with words

the youngest of three! hara was born from a loveless marriage though she never witnessed very much of the ugly side as her eldest brother (jaehyuk!) shielded her from the worst of it

she never had a very close relationship with her parents as they were both very career oriented and absorbed with raising her second brother as a successor. therefore, jaehyuk was left mostly taking charge of parenting despite only being five years older. hara’s closest with her elder brother and has a general feeling of contempt towards her middle brother as he prioritized meeting their parent’s ridiculous expectations over genuine familial bonds. 

despite being the byproduct of a marriage of convenience hara grew up obsessed with the notion of true love. she loved everything love, lived and breathed rom-coms, swooned over lavish celebrity romances and poured over countless shoujo mangas. 

coming from a powerful magic family she never had much issue throughout schooling, adequate knowledge regarding spells and a firm grasp of control it wasn’t hard for her to skate by with minimal effort as her head stayed in the clouds dreaming of boys... girls sometimes - huh??... boys 

some might say she has wasted potential, though she thinks her skills are better used for matchmaking 

she very much prioritizes others happiness over her own working very hard to find them suitable matches (in part to see them happy and in part to boost her career, but hey, nothing wrong in helping yourself out every once and a while)

always falls into unrequited love with older, unattainable guys - ignores obvious signs of guys her age being interested, though that doesn’t happen often as they’re usually intimidated by her friends or brother

aggressively cares for a large network of friends, spreads herself too thin a lot but always remains most loyal to her childhood friends

she can be pretty ditzy at times, mostly from putting way too much on her plate - her over-confidence and pushiness sort of prevents anyone from ever saying anything to her

thinks humans are really cute, kind of fascinated by them

his privilege didn’t come for free, it came with great expectation. his parents had met in late and life, and after many unsuccessful tries at pregnancy at last succeeded with haejin

his parents maturity allowed for great wealth and knowledge to be passed along as well as great responsibility and expectation as the sole heir to their (impressive) estate and potions empire 

he’s always been burdened with heavy responsibility though he has no qualms with his situation, raised fairly though at times strict he’s grown up with upright morals and standards 

wasn’t given much choice in choice of career as he pursued potions studies in order to prepare taking over his parent’s business, though he doesn’t fair well with social interaction he enjoys letting himself get consumed by academia. he thirsts for knowledge and is constantly studying and experimenting, has continued on to pursue an academic career post-grad in order to better his knowledge for when the time comes that he must take full duty over his family’s business 

his parents are very old, despite not looking the part, he senses their increasing weakness and draining power. though he does not openly seemed afflicted by it, he’s scared of their passing. 

one of the few youth with such elderly parents, as a result was not raised in the same social circles as most of his peers. more well acquainted with the social elite. 

definitely hates humans.

BIO: 

yoojoon was the youngest of four boys born ( accidentally ) to moon hojoon and moon jisoo, in the small town of punggi. 

his mother was a tarot card reader/fortune teller who worked out of their home and his father a retired duellist for the hyeon mu. they lived off of his mother’s meager income and his father’s military pension that the hyeon mu provided since he was honourably discharged after a combat incident that left him traumatized.

his birth was considered a hindrance to his father more than anything else. another mouth to feed with the little they had. 

hojoon was a very heavy drinker, using it as a coping mechanism to deal w/ his trauma. he often took his anger out on his sons and wife --- rarely laying a hand on them, but often yelling so loudly the house would shake.

yoojoon had a very close relationship with his mother and his eldest brother saejoon who was twelve years his senior. his two middle brothers mostly brushed him off out of fear of their father.

he didn’t begin showing signs of magic until he was five, and his mother was worried for the first few years that he was a squib, due to all his brothers showing signs of magic in infancy. 

the first thing yoojoon ever did magic-wise was make a bush of azaleas in their back garden bloom out of season. his entire family celebrated his feat that night, even his father.

as he grew older and began to attend school, he decided he wanted to be a duellist like his father was. he did well in all his classes in the hopes that when the time came he could move to seoul and attend crocus to receive proper training

was a very happy, bouncy little kid with a love for flowers. could most often be found out in the garden with his mother as she tended to the seasonal blooms. 

had a knack for potion making from an early age. his mother always told him that he should pursue a career in potion making but he adamantly refused because he wanted a manly job. 

when yoojoon was ten, saejoon left punggi for seoul, with plans of joining a vigilante resistance group disassociated from the hyeon mu. they considered themselves freedom fighters who sought to bring an end to the ongoing war between the magi and the ju jak through methods such as peaceful protests and attempts at reconciliation. 

their father was more than displeased. he told his eldest son that if he did leave he would never be welcomed back, but he left anyways with the promise of writing to yoojoon as often as he could about his “ adventures in the big city. ”

tensions in their household only rose after his brother left. his father drank more, his mother threw herself into her work. his two remaining brothers left for school, leaving him alone to handle his parents. 

saejoon never ended up writing him, and yoojoon began to resent him for leaving.

at fourteen, yoojoon received new that his brother had died at the hands of the ju jak --- “ another tragic casualty of war ” as the letter stated.

the two years in between his brother’s death and him starting at crocus are kind of a blur for him. lots of heated arguments with his father over the nature of saejoon’s death that would turn into physical altercations, nights spent sobbing silently in saejoon’s empty bedroom. he was a whole ass mess, with good reason, and acted accordingly.

when he was sixteen he finally moved to seoul, having come to terms as best he could with saejoon’s death. he realized he couldn’t put his life on hold to continue mourning, and that that was not what his brother would have wanted for him.

he was put in nightshade upon arriving at crocus, and despite words of encouragement from his professors to go into potion making he stayed firmly on track towards becoming a duelist. he was now more determined than ever --- hellbent on avenging his brother’s death and taking the ju jak down one by one.

a year into his education he was approached by a group of boys who were apart of the same vigilante group his brother had been in, called the faceless ones. wanting to follow in his footsteps and aide the war effort, yoojoon joined.

attending school falls second to attending group meetings in a grungy warehouse downtown. it seems innocent enough at first --- passing a bottle of soju around a fire, sharing stories of the ones lost to the ju jak. but as time goes on and tensions between magi and humans grow further, things become more serious.

the boys don masks with magi emblazoned on the front to cover their faces as they wreak havoc in the human-populated areas of the city. they lights cars on fire, vandalize businesses, and some go as far as attacking innocent people --- ju jak or not. it takes some impressive mental gymnastics on yoojoon’s part to justify the actions of his peers, but he manages when he’s got enough liquor in his system. 

his knack for potions makes him the ideal candidate for making simple weaponry --- pipe bombs, pouches full of noxious herbs, tinctures that when applied to the skin melt it clean off the bone. but working behind the scenes wasn’t what he joined to do. he joined to kill ju jak.

and so he does. indirectly at first --- more of a mastermind than an executioner --- but growing more bold as time goes on. the first time he takes a life with his own hands he’s just turned seventeen, and he hates the rush it gives him.

he attends school during the day and uses the skills he learns to kill by night. he is methodical, unlike the others, careful. he plans his attacks for days before carrying them out, and enacts his plans with professional ease. he becomes well known to ju jak and hyeon mu alike --- and both groups want him caught.

however, one poorly executed plan leads to him falling into the hands of the hyeon mu, and they give him a choice. he’s either to join them as a duelist --- because his talents, though being used poorly, cannot simply be thrown away --- or rot in prison for murder.

it’s an easy choice, and when he’s just shy of eighteen he’s officially a member of the hyeon mu.

as far as rookie duelists go, he’s considered one of the most talented. his prior experience ( though they don’t like to admit it ) gives him a leg up on the others his age, and he finds himself climbing through the ranks quickly. 

he figures if he can’t change the way the magi deal with ju jak as part of a rebel organization, he may as well work on it from the inside. 

he’s an accomplished duelist with a very high number of confirmed kills and arrests.

by twenty three he’s no longer a duelist --- they prefer to use his talents in careful planning over his manpower. he’s appointed to the committee of strategists that work closely with the leaders of the hyeon mu to gather information on the ju jak and plan out attacks accordingly. 

he’s frickin amazing at it. it’s truly what he was always meant to do, and he makes triple what he did as a duelist without needing to be in the field.

now, at twenty seven, he’s now the head strategist with a small committee working underneath him.

he rly out here tryna revolutionize the way the magi and the hyeon mu deal with the ju jak, because he feels as though he has more relevant field experience than many of the higher ups who have simply been observing this war rather than taking part in it.

truly believes that they could be doing more, but for whatever reason are not. in his eyes the hyeon mu is not functioning at it’s full capabilities, and their efforts are sitting stagnant as the ju jak grow in number. 

the most anti-government government employee you will ever meet. often accuses the president of sitting on their ass with their security detail to protect them while the common people are terrorized.

however, as much as he calls out and openly bashes the hyeon mu’s methods, they can’t afford to lose him because he rly has made a ton of progress and at this point with the amount he knows he’s irreplaceable, and too much of a liability to let go of.

so now he sits in his cushy office on the top floor of a gorgeous building, overlooking the city and planning various ways to absolutely pulverize the ju jak at whatever cost.

HEADCANONS & RANDOM FACTS:

still very close with his mom !! she often comes and stays in the city with him, and he spoils the hell out of her :’)))

he has a familiar: a fat, orange cat named calcifer whom he adores endlessly.

is a hobby potion maker. it relaxes him.

loves a good vodka soda w/ lime.

while he isn’t very social, he loves to attend high society parties because it gives him an excuse to wear one of his many fancy suits.

quite a snarky asshole, will give you shit regardless of your position or status.

enjoys eating sticky rice.

public speaking is like.....a weird talent of his ? he absolutely loathes it, but he’s read in newspapers that he inspires the common folk with his passion so he just kinda rolls with it.

is rly just out here trying to make life better for the average magi. he doesn’t do what he does because he’s endlessly loyal to the hyeon mu --- he does it for the people.

basically lives in his office because he’s Always Working. he has like, a kettle and a hotplate and a mini fridge, blankets, a bed for calcifer ( who he often brings to work with him ) and all sorts of random crap that he’s accumulated to make the space as homey as he can.

keeps fresh bouquets of azalea’s in both his office and his apartment because they remind him of home and of his mom uwu

very messy, misplaces things within seconds of picking them up i swear to god. has defs lost important paperwork and spent hours scrambling to find it, just to see he placed it on top of a cupboard by accident when he got up for a snack.

has ptsd from his time in the faceless ones as well as his time as a duelist in the field. he frequently has nightmares because of this.

she’s born in the middle of a humid june night, to a woman so drained, she can barely muster up the strength to hold the newborn to her chest. ( it’s a miracle she survived, the nurses whisper amongst themselves ). there’s no one accompanying the young mother, and no one comes to visit her during her stay – but if she’s surprised because of it, she hides it well

so yeah, for as long as hyejin can remember, the only constant in her life has been her mom and their tiny apartment, with its grey, dingy wallpaper and thin walls. they don’t have much – her mom manages to get some money by selling kimbap in the local market – but she grows up loved and happy. her life’s pretty normal – honestly, her biggest worry at that point would probably be whether or not she had enough money to buy a box of pepero

and then – her seventh birthday

hyejin comes back from school one afternoon only to find the entire apartment building surrounded by thick, heavy smoke. she tries to get to the front of the mass of people – really, she tries as hard as she can to push her way through because her mother should be here, where’s her mother, why isn’t she coming to get her – when she’s stopped by an old lady with a kind face ( one of her neighbors, she remembers ) who looks at her with such incredible sadness evident on her features – which is then mirrored in every single pair of eyes that recognize the little girl. a strange mixture of sadness and pity, which she learns to recognize with time

they tell her that her mother’s dead – perished in the flames that had, apparently, started from a couple of faulty wires just meters away from their home. and just like that – in just one afternoon – the girl’s left with nothing but the clothes on her back, alone and lost and terrified

they seek her out themselves a couple of days after, a small family of ju jak supporters, and take her in. only days later, they fill her head with an insane amount of lies. they tell her the entire incident was an act – a fabrication made to cover up the actions of the magical folk. they tell her all about the vicious magi whose only purpose is to assert their dominance over the non-magical humans, even if it meant causing harm. they tell her that she should hate them – that she should despise them for what they did to her mother. this is what they raise her on, what they repeat to her constantly throughout the years. at first, hyejin believes them. she really does. but as she grows up, her faith begins to waver – and she finds herself doubting whether any of it is actually true. in her family’s eyes, she’s expected to commit fully to capturing, and killing, if necessary, any and all magi. the problem is – hyejin’s not sure if she can actually find it in herself to do it

tldr; shin hyejin was born and raised by a single mother who died in a tragic fire accident when hyejin was seven years old. after that, hyejin is taken in by a foster family ( part of the ju jaks ) who, knowing about the circumstances, ask specifically for her. knowing how vulnerable – and, by extension, impressionable – the child is, start teaching her all sorts of lies about the magic community and basically recruit her in the ju jaks. she grows up imagining the magi as these super evil villains coming for the normal humans and probs even hates them w a passion at some point. as she grows up and starts forming her own opinions n thoughts, she realizes that maybe there’s something wrong about the idea of killing people who you’ve never actually seen do anything wrong. her family wants her to commit fully and even become a hunter in the future, she prays that the day will never come

owns a small café named shim hae ( tr: deep sea ) which she tried to make as cozy as possible – there’s sofas covered with pillows and soft blankets, paperbacks and hardcovers of different genres, and the constant smell of freshly brewed coffee and hot chocolate – it’s close to her idea of a safe haven, not just for her – but for anyone who may need it

a social butterfly !! she honestly just loves meeting and being around people, as well as going out with them for food or to visit an aquarium or an amusement park ….. or all three soz i don’t make the rules

BIG on food …… but cant rly cook to save her life :/ survives off takeout, cereal, and coffee – no wonder she’s so close to burning out all the time

loves horror movies even tho she gets scared to death at the smallest jumpscare :/ she loves movies in general – especially musicals !! she probs knows like …. 90% of the broadway musicals by heart no joke

☾*✧･ﾟ:*「 jung hoseok. cismale. he/him. 」did you know that there’s a human in seoul named byun ryuhwan? they have been here for the past three months and they are a hunter. they are currently twenty-nine and were a part of the ju jak. i heard that they are known to be belligerent, but worry not ! i heard they are also very impartial too. ( su, 23, she/her, gmt+8)

ryu’s born to a long line of renowned hunters: the byuns are known for being absolutely ruthless and their family weapon of choice is a slightly modified gut hook knife. ryu's knife is a little smaller, with a rosewood handle that has his name on it.

he was forced to train since he was 10, and he made his first human kill at age 13. the byuns have a tradition of tattooing their kills, to mark them, and he chose notches as his shape, lined up neatly on his back. 

when he quit the whole ju jak business, at a ripe old age of 28, he ended up with around six and a half lines, which adds up to hundred odd kills. 

he’s fallen in love in his life twice - both with magi, ironically enough. the first is yoojoon, a childhood friend and neighbour, and the second is a healer who he ended up seeking help from time and again. 

the healer was a good person, who managed to ground ryuhwan and teach him between right and wrong, all while patiently patching him up. things were very serious and they had been considering marriage when the ju jak got to ryu’s fiancee first. 

hence how ryu ends up in haneul - he’s had his heart broken one too many times and he’s taken on his partner’s death as a personal responsibility; him paying for his sins in a way. he’s opened up a little dojang where he teaches taekwando and different levels of self-defense!

he hasn’t quit assassin jobs completely - he’s pretty good at finding out information so he does part-time private investigating work, digging up dirt on anyone who has a reputation of being a little too loose with knifes/magic.

possible connections.

the one who keeps him in check -> he’s spent a lot of his years completely alone so he’s not very used to having someone around him constantly. after the death of his partner, he’s probably been prone to picking up terrible habits, and probably needs a friend who can call him out when he strays too far.

old ghosts -> anyone who might have been related to his partner, a magi healer. anyone who might have known him when he was still a kid, barely struggling to hold a knife. 

dojang partners/students -> anyone who is interested in funding ryu’s little dojang or being an instructor/class coordinator or students! ryu’s a patient and capable teacher and he’ll love to teach your muses how to put someone in a choke hold. 

ex ju jaks -> people who are on his trail perhaps, trying to ease him out of early retirement? ju jaks who’ve heard his reputation and want to get rid of him because he knows too many secrets?

hyeon mus/duellists -> in his time as an assassin, ryu would have without a doubt stumbled upon many a duellists and/or members of hyeon mu. news of ryu’s retirement would have spread amongst the hyeon mu as well and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond to it :>

☾*✧･ﾟ:*「 kang seulgi. cisfem. she/her. 」did you know that there’s a witch in haneul known as ryu sunhi? they have been living here for six years and is a healer in training. they are currently twenty two and was a student at crocus institute of higher magic in the house hyacinth. i heard that they are known to be erratic, but worry not ! i heard they are also very passionate too. remember to stay out of trouble, the ju jak are lurking around every corner !

BIO:

sunhi was raised in the countryside outside of busan !!

her family wasn’t poor but they weren’t the most well off either. her parents ran a small potions shop that catered to both humans and magi. the divide between the two groups seemed to have not touched her small town as much as it did bigger cities.

from the age of seven her parents sent her to a magic prep school in busan to give her a leg up when she finally went to crocus. it was expensive, and they spent a large chunk of their income on it, but they truly believed it was what was best for their little girl.

from september to may she attended school in the city, living in the dormitories. during summers she would go home to the countryside.

she was a terrific student in school. since her parents were working so hard to get her an education she worked really hard to be top of her class and not step a toe out of line, for fear of ruining her chances at getting into crocus and letting her family down.

despite being a good student, sunhi’s time at the prep school wasn’t all that pleasant. she was often the target of bullying from other girls from richer families who deemed her unworthy of being there.

summers home were always her favourite because she got to spend time with her family, as well as her best friend --- a neighbourhood boy named jaejun who she had befriended in her early childhood.

the two would spend practically every day together while she was at home ( that she wasn’t working ), swimming in the lake or going on adventures in the woods. when she was away at school they kept in constant contact via handwritten letters that they would send one another every few days.

she was defs highkey in love w/ him but never said anything because she didn’t think it would be fair of her to expect a relationship when she was away in busan most of the year.

had a summer job at a tea house in her town. she saved every cent she earned so that she could move to seoul when she graduated.

at sixteen she graduated from the prep school and, as planned, moved to seoul all on her own !! she got a tiny, crappy loft apartment that was basically just a room with a kitchen on one side and empty space on the other, but it was hers and she loved it.

for two years she worked three jobs to save up enough money to continue paying her rent and living expenses while she attended school. she didn’t want to have to move into the dorms, the thought making her anxious due to how horrible her experience was in busan. she preferred the comfort of living in her own space where she could have everything her way.

a year after she moved to seoul, jaejun reached out to her after a year of very little contact asking if he could stay with her until he got himself on his feet. of course she said yes, and he moved in right away.

having him living with her was simultaneously the best and worst year of her life. the best because it was jj, the worst because of who he had become. she spent most nights waiting up for hours until he got home, constantly in a state of worry that ate away at her.

lucky for her ( i guess ) she doesn’t remember !! any of it !! because right before the two of them started attending crocus, jj wiped her memory of him and dipped.

because of that she has a lot of blank spots from her childhood. situations that don’t add up or make sense when she thinks back on them. found a shirt of his he forgot in the laundry and had no idea where it came from or why there was a guys clothing in her house. still wears the sunflower necklace he got her when they were thirteen but couldn’t tell you where she got it. 

when she started at crocus she was sorted into hyacinth. despite the house’s reputation for spitting out herbologists and seers, sunhi decided she wanted to be a field healer.

almost all of her professors tried to talk her out of it, saying that she was too softhearted for a job that draining, but that only made her want to do it more so she could prove to them ( and herself ) that she was strong and capable.

had a boyfriend for a little over a year. he sucked so she ended things to focus on school. she doesn’t really like to talk about him much because it’s still a touchy subject.

was somehow very involved but also very uninvolved with social activities at crocus. a bit of a floater, she never really settled into any particular groups of friends, instead casually befriending random people here or there. nothing really stuck though, because despite her extraverted and friendly nature she’s horrible at keeping up friendships.

graduated in the top of her class at the age of twenty one, and was quickly taken on for practical training at a magi hospital in seoul !! she’s currently employed there and mostly works with children ( even though she isn’t the biggest fan of them ) but is hoping to start field training once she’s done the basics.

just moved into a new, much nicer apartment !! thanks healer salary, u a real one !!

HEADCANONS & RANDOM FACTS:

literally probably the most social person on the planet. she will strike up a conversation with anybody anywhere because she’s just so curious about everything.

very organized and particular about her things and her space. her apartment looks like something out of home and garden and even her purse has a specially tailored organization system.

avid hockey fan !! will stay up into the wee hours of the morning to watch the live broadcast of nhl games. her favorite team is the montreal canadiens.

has a tendency to get very stressed very easily. one little thing can ruin her mojo for an entire day and she’ll be very snappy until something calms her down again.

claims to have a horrible memory because of how little of her childhood she can recall. little doES SHE KNOW !! IT AINT HER FAULT !!

is a vegetarian.

she’s so competitive it’s like an issue. she will compete with the person walking beside her down the street to see who can reach the crosswalk faster ( without even mentioning it to them ). she will even compete with herself as a way of “ self improvement. ”

pinky promises are a binding contract in her mind. will mumble a charm to herself upon making a pinky promise that will cause minor inconveniences for the other person if they should ever break their promise and not come clean about it. 

seems like the type of person who would like kids but she...really actually doesn’t. she finds them messy and annoying and she doesn’t ever plan on having kids of her own.

has a very impressive collection of scented candles.

when she’s at home she does not wear pants. she hates pants with a passion.

cannot leave the house without putting on mascara and lip tint, even if she’s just running to the mail box.

dresses like a grandpa.

cannot cook to save her life. she’s truly horrible at it, her mother is very disappointed.

keeps a very detailed planner, it’s always in her purse.

BACKSTORY ;

yang jaehyuk was born on april 12, 1994, and he is the oldest of three siblings and most likely considered the problem child. his parents are very important people in hyeon mu, being apart of the council that helps make the major decisions for the entire organization. they’re loaded with money and entitlement, and the majority of the magi community probably know his parents.

his parents were never in a happy marriage — they were arranged by jaehyuk’s grandparents to ‘ protect ’ this empire they built where a member of both bloodlines would remain on the council. growing up, he was a witness to the both of them constantly arguing, yelling at each other, walking out on each other and accusing the other of things he wasn’t certain of being false like he hoped. so absorbed in their hatred for each other and their circumstances, he never saw them as anything other than people forced to be in his life.

with that being said, he definitely never had a close relationship with them. early on in his life, they tried to mold him into their perfect son ; the perfect product of two seemingly perfect people. however, he was rebellious and non-compliant because he strongly disliked them as people, so they gave up and tried again with another kid. this is the beginning of his rocky / non-existent relationship with his parents, and eventually his younger brother too.

although his parents provided him with whatever he wanted & needed ( mostly to get him to stop annoying them if they didn’t ), you can’t imagine the pain he felt knowing he meant absolutely nothing than a waste of their money. not only had he lost his parents, but he lost his brother too — even if they were in the same room. then his younger sister was born, and he vowed to not let them hurt her like they hurt him, immediately taking her under his wing.

it wasn’t a hard process either, considering they already had their perfect child and didn’t need another. both work-oriented and obsessed with ‘ training ’ their heir, even with numerous nannies jaehyuk practically raised her himself. he wanted to protect her, and didn’t want to see the harsh reality the two of them lived in despite it looking picture-perfect on the outside ; even if it meant lying to her and sugarcoating the fact that their parents and their brother didn’t necessarily love them, at least she knew she could rely on him and that at least he definitely loves her.

due to his relationship with his parents, and growing up front-row to their loveless marriage, he grew up viewing love negatively — so much that he completely despises it. he gave love a chance once, and was in a loving relationship for four years before he completely fucked it up, overthinking a couple text messages and broke up with them immediately. he believes love wasn’t meant for him, as all of his relationships seem to always go wrong, whether it’s his fault or not.

jaehyuk has earned quite a notorious reputation, known for charming his way into people’s lives ( and their beds ) and disappearing just as quickly as he intruded with little to no feelings about it. he indulges in shallow relationships that give him a necessary amount of affection for a night or night, and immediately cuts them off in order to remain detached and lonesome. scared of being hurt and scared of something new, he doesn’t care if feelings are hurt if it means the feelings hurt are not his own.

he may have lost his heir status a long time ago, but that doesn’t stop the oldest son from doing his best to spite his parents. he eventually graduated from crocus institute as a valerian, and became a duelist within hyeon mu to absolutely spite his parents who believed he wouldn’t be able to. he gave up his dream of being a professor one day, but as long as he can continue to annoy his parents by going beyond their expectations it’s fine.

unfortunately for him, he sees them at least once or twice a week and he is able to keep the facade, acting as if they’re all close, but it’s far from the truth. he moved out soon after graduating in order to put some much needed space between him and the most toxic people in his life, and he hates that he has to see them so often even if it’s just for work. to other people it’s admirable and inspiring to see a family working together in the same space, but if you asked him, he barely recognizes them despite knowing them his entire life.

he does not believe he needs love in his life, and hardly believes it even exists. he doesn’t see the point of having something he coins with pain in his life and turns down any opportunity to experience the real thing again, knowing it’s him that will fuck it up somehow and be a repeat of his parents. he hates the thought of being alone, and absolutely wishes deep down that it didn’t have to be this way, but he recognizes loneliness as home and always has.

FUN FACTS ;

he doesn’t do relationships. he usually cuts off people he’s slept with after one night with them, but if it’s really good then maybe they’ll do it again a second time. any other time after that requires a fwb deal.

he lives alone in a luxury loft apartment, and doesn’t usually invite people over regardless of their relationship with him. it’s nothing personal, it’s just that it’s his space and wants it to himself. the only people above this rule are his sister and his best friend ( whoever that may be ).

jaehyuk is known to be blunt and doesn’t care — he’s not completely unapproachable, and definitely doesn’t mind company with boundaries as long as they don’t care about his sharp tongue !

definitely doesn’t push people into sleeping with him if they say no to him. he’s not interested in chasing due to the idea that he may get attached.

although his job requires him to technically be enemies with humans, he really likes humans. he’s interested in their life without magic.

he has a toyger named ‘ lana ’ and she is a couple months old. he rescued her from an alley near his home and decided to keep her after ( reluctantly ) growing attached when he brought her to the vet the morning after.

has definitely killed members of the ju jak before, and has little to no regret for what he’s done. it’s part of his job and he doesn’t care for people who wouldn’t hesitate to kill him first if they had a chance. however, lately he’s been just leaving those recognizable ju jak members with banter and unfinished ' duels ’ for no reason. prolonging the end only makes it that much better, right?

he has three tattoos: a barcode tattoo with the date he graduated from crocus on his left wrist, a wolf tattoo on his right shoulder and a compass on the back of his neck. he plans to get more eventually.

definitely has a liscense to drive both a car and a motorcycle. he usually drives his harley davidson everywhere he goes but loves to show off his two luxury cars as well.

now under the cut, a few info about him ( tws for parent death, cults, ableism ) :

the reason behind his name is actually pretty easy, and it’s all to blame on his late mom’s laziness in not wanting to change all the stuff she prepared for the incoming birth. his parents divorced for unknown causes few years after his birth so he has zero relevant memories about his dad or the paternal family, if not that they’re known high class peeps, probably descending from the imperial family considering the last name being ‘yi’.

his mom’s side of the family are all members of the ju jak, and of course due to blood status he was shoved in real early and real fast.

he’s born with a genetic eye disease called monochromacy, more specifically rod monochromacy, which prevents him from seeing colors ( yes, all he sees is grayscale ) and make his eyes actually pretty sensitive to light, but he knows how to take care of them and how to distinguish the basic shades based on brightness. part of the maternal family think it’s not a disease but a magi curse.

always been that one odd ball of the bunch, and unfortunately his disease and the fact he had to also train for the ju jak didn’t help especially during the crude years of highschool in which his sense of loneliness and alienation only grew stronger, and oftentimes he would refuge himself in drawing and avoiding people the most

he just recently lost his mother, after years post-highschool spent doing odd jobs and finally giving in the request of his maternal uncle to actually take him under his wing, try to get him involved more in the ju jak business ( with a huge failure ) and of course promoting his nephew’s artistic talent in his tattoo shop in seoul. he didn’t really take his mother’s death too well and it’s still an open wound for him to elaborate.

he was born in toronto, canada, but moved to orlando, florida when he was really young. he doesn’t remember anything about toronto :(( he liked living in florida though, and his parents took him to disney when he was a toddler !! it’s his favourite memory !! 

he has an older brother ( older than him by 4 years ) and they fought a lot unfortunately :// they dis still have their good moments tho. 

that being said, when levi was 13, he and his brother got into a really bad fight n his brother actually pushed levi down the stairs n he broke his right arm. following the incident, his brother was sent back to toronto to live with some relatives. his brother was also put into anger management ---- tho levi didn’t really know about it all while it was happening bc his parents never told him. they sugarcoated a LOT of what they told him.

levi began to show aggression as he grew older, n his parents were terrified of him falling into the same habits as his older brother. unfortunately, he did :// it’s not that he isn’t a sweet, caring individual, but he has a terrible temper and whenever he’s angry or really upset in general, it’s like a switch ? he becomes v physically violent when he’s pushed too far. 

he was in a relationship once when he was 17, and the person he was with got onto him about being too busy to spend time with them, and it escalated v quickly ... levi remembers hitting them nd he actually broke their nose bc of the fight ... he hasn’t forgiven himself 4 it,, tho he’s problematic n hasn’t sought out any treatment 4 his anger bc he’s afraid 2 admit he has issues, u know ? the person he was with actually never came out n did anything ( like press charges, etc. ) which he’s thankful for. he wants his parents to think of him as the golden child, not a replication of his brother ... which is v problematic !! 

after the incident, he actually moved 2 south korea bc he found out about haneul,, he begged his parents 2 let him attend the school n they reluctantly agreed. their main deciding factor was that he’d b majoring in baseball. they knew how much he loved the sport n figured that would help him get his aggression out in a healthy way~ 

he discovered baseball when he was young, n played throughout his childhood !! he stuck with it as he grew older, n it’s become like,, an extension of himself now ? but also loves academics ok,, he loves to read n write in his down time !! 

he recently threw out his shoulder during a match, n he beats himself up over it daily. he h8s not being able to compete or train, nd he sulks a LOT bc of it. he just wants 2 play baseball. 

as for personality,, levi’s actually a v cool kid ?? he’s hip n down with the latest trends. he listens to a lot of music, n likes 2 workout. he can b a little arrogant at times, but he means well i promise. oH he knows korean as he’s been studying the language 4 a few years now, but he still has his moments where he forgets things or screws up sentences. to err is human right ??

Hi, everyone! I'm a little late for the intro ordeal, but I guess I'd better get to it! My name is Kelly, I go by she/her pronouns, and I live somewhere in the EST. She spent her early years as a young adult (18-20) studying academics and training in Portland, Oregon (in the states), so she is a fluent English speaker and that’s where she picked up her English name, Arden.

That’s also where she was scouted to join Haneul, and she’s onto her fifth year now

Hardly anyone knows that she is trans. Not because she’s scared of their opinions, but because that point in her life is behind her, and she doesn’t feel like going back.

BACKSTORY ;

ahn jiyeon was born on october 29, 2000, and she is the last living member of a presumably lost and “ancient” bloodline of first generation magi. her ancestors were renowned duelists for their time and saved many other magi in history, being famous in textbooks and the likes. anyone who had ahn blood in them were usually known to be great duelists, and were always given a necklace with an emblem that showed off their family symbol.

however, in jiyeon’s case, this simply wasn’t happening. her mother, originally married to another pureblood wizard, fell in love with a human ( despite knowing the magi society is highly against this ) and conceived jiyeon. too ashamed of what she’d done after her “true love” left her in the dust, as well as not wanting her daughter to grow up in an environment where people will shun her for being a half-blood, she left her daughter behind with an heirloom that would confirm jiyeon’s witch status when she was found.

she was quickly adopted into the family that found her in daegu, however she stayed with the grandparents for three years since they were unprepared for a second child at the time. when she finally moved to seoul / haneul, they didn’t want to erase her lineage from her identity so they let her keep her surname and named her after a prominent figure in her family.

while she was learning how to control her magic, she began looking into her bloodline. she read about how they’ve been heroes in history, how powerful they were for their age, how they never gave up without a fight … yet somehow always died at the hands of humans and became a lost lineage in history. hatred grew in her for all of the damage they’ve done to not only her family but to other wizards as well.

she earns the nickname joy in her childhood, from her parents who knew she brought happiness with everything she does. despite her not being their real daughter, they never treated her as an alien in their family and welcomed her with open arms. she doesn’t know what happened with her birth parents, or why she was only left with a photograph of her father, but she doesn’t question it.

as she begins to grow up knowing her magic should become more controlled, she begins to worry that something’s wrong when she reaches the age of sixteen and there’s still no progress. people reassure her that there are late bloomers, but unlike her they’re not blind to the truth. all signs point to being a half-blood, but her own denial continues to give many excuses as to what’s wrong with her — there’s no way she could be human, right?

everyone recommends her to become a potions master, as it seems to be the safest option for her due to the fact that her magic is rather unpredictable and uncontrollable. she already had doubts about her own abilities, constantly questioning herself ( and crying about it ) every time something went wrong, but knowing others were wary as well hurt her fading pride. despite how much it discouraged her in the beginning — considering her lineage is made up of famous duelists — she’s grown to love the idea after becoming an apprentice early on.

however, this doesn’t stop her from being insecure when she’s alone and trying her best to train. she knows how magi laws work, and even though she believes she isn’t a half-blood, she is certain the magi laws about dysfunctional magic apply to her. the age of twenty-five was only seven years away, and that’s a short time in magi years — even though it’s been spotty for the past eighteen years, she can’t imagine herself without magic at all.

as a student she’s always been studious and diligent, desperate to show that she wasn’t completely hopeless and useless without magic. she’s got an encyclopedia inside her head, with knowledge ranging from magical creatures to duelling styles ( despite not being trusted to try them out ). she believes knowing as much as she can will be helpful in the future.

she’s young and small, she just turned eighteen and just 5’2”, but that is not a reason to underestimate her — which is something she’ll remind people of. she doesn’t believe that she needs anyone’s help, and doesn’t want anyone’s help, which is why she often trains by herself and goes home with many new bruises or small cuts. she’s the type of girl who doesn’t want to be a damsel in distress despite that’s what she definitely is … just don’t tell her that or she’ll cry; she’s trying her best !

FUN FACTS ;

she has a dalmation named ‘ ryuk ’ ( named after ryuk in death note ). her family adopted him when she was ten years old, and he was just a couple months old already. he’s already eight years old, and recently joy is trying to find a way to make him immortal, but her searches have been fruitless ...

she is in the house nightshade and she has a lot of pride for it. despite the school having no uniforms, she wears this black hoodie with the nightshade flower on it at least once every week. it’s oversized and she loves it.

joy has clumsy magic. she aims to be strong one day but it just ain’t happening soon. the institute is covered by a veil of magic so as a precaution, joy has to go to school with someone in order to get in. if she doesn’t, she usually can’t get behind the wall of magic surrounding it.

since she was a little girl, it was very easy for her to fall ill. she falls the most sick during winter and she’ll be bedridden for days and it could be for the littlest things too.

her hatred for humans is actually a mask for a very intense fear. considering her ancestors were usually killed by humans, she thinks it’s some kind of curse. she wouldn’t be caught near one willingly unless it was unknowingly.

if you’re one of her best friends, she gives out potions like they’re nothing. if you’re a close friend she’ll give discounts even if it’ll get her into trouble.

she has a small tattoo that she got for her eighteenth birthday. it’s a little, minimalistic scorpio constellation on her neck. 

joy has a lot of bandaids and / or bandages on her and is also usually wearing a lot of it too. due to her solo training and her own clumsiness, her parents told her to carry some around.

she speaks english but it’s a little broken. she’s still learning, and she’s doing pretty good ! words are just hard. however ( thanks to anime / manga ) she speaks japanese very well.

very dramatic for absolutely no reason. very reactive and expresses how she feels easily when she’s comfortable with a person. she’s only a little bit shy but she’s still dramatic !
