honestly I absolutely love the Avvar in Jaws of Hakkon. How they worship the gods, how they view the world around them, how accepting they are and just how interesting they are too. I absolutely despise how the Inquisitor and Companions make commentary as if they're stupid or wrong in their beliefs, or that they're "just crazy people who worship spirits".

The dialogue you don't choose or even the ones you do are on the line of condescending, and it's frankly insulting, especially that all options on the dialogue wheel fall on that line.

the Avvar are so fucking cool, I hate we only get a DLC with them. (I also miss the Chasind - I wish they weren't forgotten or left in the dirt by BioWare :( )

I was rewatching mouthwashing, and I ended up thinking of the different reactions that Curly and Jimmy had in doing their tasks. How during the scene of Anya evaluating Jimmy and showing dread towards the idea of doing his evaluation, Curly was the one that offered to take it off her hands. He had no issue with adding more to his plate, because he knew - or well, thought, he knew that Jimmy wasn't going to "bullshit" with him since he's known him for a long time. When Anya hands Curly a note from Swansea, Curly goes to check out what the issue is and he takes care of it without a complaint, the only "complaint" he has is how this incident could have damaged the pods. Which is reasonable, those pods are their only way to be saved if anything tragic happens on the ship. However, in comparison to Jimmy being asked to do things, he's passive-aggressive about it. When Anya asks Jimmy if he could help her out with Curly's painkillers, he tells her that people should be worth their titles, specifically using her title as a nurse when she asked him for help and then when she says forget it, since he made her feel insecure, he still goes "Oh no, I'LL take care of it" as if he was doing a chore, a favor for her. Then, there's that part where he blows up at her for things that she didn't even ask him to do - more so the others asked him about it, like the code scanner, him deciding he needed to find the axe for the foam, and then, there's the medicine part (which when she does ask, and she reconsiders - going to do it herself, he takes that away from her). Jimmy complains about the tasks he has to do and he treats it like a big issue, a "woes me" that he has to do this and that - wanting the praise of the capital without actually doing any work. While Curly doesn't complain about it, in fact, he even mentions that he's aware of how well he is doing at his job as a Captain during that cockpit scene with him and Jimmy. If Jimmy only had to do a small amount of tasks to get irritated and annoyed at being captain, while Curly didn't which I feel like encapsulates their personalities. Curly understands what he's doing is a job, it's a responsibility, why would he complain at any point for doing what he's suppose too? Why would he be upset at people asking him to do tasks? While Jimmy on the other hand, isn't used to it at all and it's different to what he's had before and he's realizing that he doesn't actually like doing the work he has too. I just wanted to ramble about it even if it seemed kind of obvious xd

It’s obvious but it is a thing people miss or understate when trying to find parallels in Curly’s and Jimmy’s relationship/personalities.

Like the way people portray it as neither taking responsibility when it is almost split down the middle of Curly taking responsibilities and faults that shouldn’t be his and making himself unequipped to handle the ones that are while Jimmy refuses to handle the responsibilities he has because he wasn’t expecting the work that comes with them.

Not a lot to say but people forget that another thing the game comments on is prioritization of issues and responsibilities and how the guys fail at it in one way or another in the situation.

He IS. Tell me how well most people could endure 6000 years of consistent, persistent demoralization, harassment and shitty treatment without snapping?

Do you know how HARD it is to be kind when you've been put through a system that actively discourages kindness and softness, a system that tries to beat it out of you - not physically, but still. The fact that Aziraphale got through all of that and is not just still kind, but still has the capacity to be kind to the very people who hurt him, is fucking remarkable.

Aziraphale is badass. Period. Full Stop.

It's well past time that we stopped equating physical and fighting prowess as a measure of badassery. Just about anyone can exercise and get strong enough to fight someone. Just about anyone could possibly get weapons training. Neither of these things is half as brave as putting yourself in front of a crowd of people and holding off 70 demons with just conviction and a candleholder because it's the RIGHT THING TO DO.

I feel like people are buying into Heaven's version of badassery. Angels were made to FIGHT. To fight the last big battle against demons and Hell.

Aziraphale is a deviation because he DOES NOT WANT THAT. He doesn't want to fight a war that will hurt billions and destroy the world. His defining moment in Season 1 is when he stands in the face of the quartermaster and refuses to fight the way they want him to. Instead of a weapon, he chooses to find another way.

If anything, I would think it's leading to the idea that Aziraphale feels he must fight, that he has no choice, and then, when it comes right down to it, finding another way. A kinder way. A BETTER way.

By the standards of Heaven, Aziraphale picking up his sword and fighting would be Normal. Him refusing and finding another way is what makes him Unique. THAT'S what makes him badass.

I thought the brothers relationship was a commentary on the dude bro over sexualization and over sharing. Saxson acts like dehumanizing women and talking about sex all the time is totally normal, he does it with his friends, his business colleagues, and even around his family. His mom rolls her eyes but laughs and doesn't stop him.

I can totally see how the inappropriate conversation leads to what happens. They normalized it till it hurt him. What it doesn’t imply is that it’s gay or emotional or something like that. no, they aren’t attracted to one another. Also nothing in story indicates they have things like that. Had to be said. Said it.

So I’m just now realizing I have a few messages in my inbox asking me my opinion about saxon x lochlan and I think this is a continuation of another ask that was sent right before this one where you referred to Saxon as straight. Going to be honest with you anon, I think we just interpreted the brothers’ plotline very differently.

Each season of the white lotus focuses on a theme/topic. These themes definitely carry onto the other seasons but they are heavily showcased in various seasons. Season one was exploitation and class divide, season two was sex and betrayal, and season three was identity and religion. Saxon definitely goes on a religious arc throughout the season but it’s not relevant to this ask, his arc based around his identity is.

Saxon’s whole identity is a lie, completely made up. He identifies as a successful workaholic whose only pleasure outside of work is meaningless sex with women. However, he is not successful by any means. Any “success” he has achieved in his career has been achieved by his father merely handing it to him. And I’m betting you his “work” that he’s soooo addicted to back in North Carolina is just him sitting at a computer and/or running errands for his daddy all day.

And meaningless sex with women does not fulfill him by any means. He does not want meaningless sex and he is not (just) attracted to women. There are many many great analyses and posts written up by people on this site but I truly came to conclusion before I had read any of them. I came to this conclusion in real time in episode five as I watched Sam Rockwell’s monologue. I truly believe his monologue is meant to mirror Saxon’s arc.

Both Saxon and Sam Rockwell’s character talk about women in such a sexualized and objectifying way it’s borderline disturbing. Both characters have (allegedly) sleep with hundreds and hundreds of women and yet neither one of them really seems self actualized or even really fulfilled. Then, after copious drug use, Sam Rockwell’s character comes to the conclusion that he does not want to fuck women; he wants get fucked like the women he’s been fucking the same way he fucks them by men who look like him.

I believe Saxon has the same desire but is simply (a LOT) more repressed about it. Before episode five he was OBSESSED into turning Lochlan into someone that looked and fucked like did. Wanted him to work out, diet, and flirt with women like he did. Consciously, he wanted to set Lochlan up with a women that was the same age as him and just as creepy about sex as he was. Subconsciously, however he wanted to be this women getting fucked by Lochlan.

There are many posts that analyze the threesome scene but this was one of the first ones I could find for you. These flashbacks all come from Saxon’s flashbacks of the threesome (aka his consciousness) and there are multiple shots that trade Chloe for him. The shot of Lochlan fucking Chloe is framed in such a way it looks like Saxon is getting fucked by Lochlan at times. I truly believe the scene is framed on purpose this way, especially since Lochlan’s flashback of the threesome is MUCH different. Lochlan’s recollection is mostly him having sex with Chloe and then a brief shot of him jerking off Saxon. I really don’t think you see much, just a phallic shaped object being stroked under some sheets. Saxon’s recollection on the other hand is these constant trade off shots.

And there are other scenes too but these are less substantial. The biggest one outside the threesome I’d say is the beach scene. The face Saxon’s makes when Lochlan runs his hand through his hair and the way he looks at Lochlan after he collapses on the sand is NOT a platonic/familial look. There’s clear lust/sexual arousal in both of these moments, and as Chelsea said “there’s not a drug in the world that would make me get with my brother” (or change my sexuality).

I will say that I also think your interpretations are correct. Their relationship is also a commentary on dudebro socialization and the way dudebros sexualize and dehumanize women. You can have one version of reality which is the canon source material, and then the other reality, our reality of what their relationship is symbolic of.

Also, it really is that deep. Always.

Something about toriel hating the monsters outside of the ruins in similar way to chara hating humanity. Not only does she isolate herself from them, but the ruins monsters are also pretty intimidated by her. if she never made that agreement with sans then im pretty sure there would have been no convincing her to let us leave. Like at all.

God even the queen toriel ending might suck for her just a bit. Imagine being put in charge of your people who betrayed you and are all willing to play niceys NOW after 6 of your kids died (in the name of 2 of them!) and they would've killed the 7th if they didn't befriend everyone! No wonder she got rid of the royal guard and told everyone to be nice and welcoming as far as she would be concerned that's what they should have been doing from the start. I imagine it's very awkward between her and undyne. I know she fires alphys in Canon, but I imagine they would have eventually started to get along and she could join the human fanclub with mettaton. But God it'd probably be so awkward. So so awkward. I really think she develops a great disdain for monster kind during her exile that she has to workout.

I know what she says here is popularly interpreted as the 'them' being asgore/ the royal guard. But it always felt like to me she was referring to monster kind as a whole. (That and if chara has similarities to toriel, it makes sense that toriel would have similarities to them...)

Exiled queen is even WORSE for her cause now that disdain is mutual and the little kid she tried to protect killed people and a war is inevitable at that point. At least with asgore in charge she had the solace that he would be too much of a coward to go through with it. At least she has sans (and sometimes papyrus) in those endings for support but I can't imagine she in any way in a better mental place than before.
