You can read to the end or not, but I cited exact video time stamps for you, and I think that in itself is enough. The mere existence of evidence against your claims negates them.

Anyway, ableism is still prevalent in society, so yes, it does matter if a character is disabled—especially Levi Ackerman, who I have to mention, as I, unfortunately, have to assume your ask pertains to him, given the association of my username with the post on his disability [x] and the fandom's history of prejudice against him. Discrimination is defined as an "unjust or prejudicial treatment." Therefore, ableism, or any discriminatory set of beliefs or prejudice, doesn't limit itself to explicit aggression the way you're thinking oppression may be, but also extends itself to micro-aggression or internalised-phobia or hatred. While it's not popular to be shouting "Disabled people are worth less than able people" from the rooftops, this belief manifests in different, maybe (?) more subtle ways, and I'll give you one easy example.

If you check out the popular relationship between Shane Burcaw and Hannah Aylward, or "Squirmy and Grubs" [x], you'll find that loads of people think their love is impossible on the basis that he's disabled—visibly disabled—and she's "a cute chick" who is "smoking hot." People commonly mistake her for his sister, his nurse, or his caretaker, or assume that she's with him out of pity, out of a fetish she has, or for money. You can see this with ease in Black Bigalow's video [x] on why their relationship is fake. Content warning for some weird, sexualised discussion about the woman's body, should anyone click that link. He may claim—repeatedly and explicitly—that he isn't ableist, but that doesn't justify his implicitly ableist mindset. He wonders if she has a fetish for disabled people [x], claims that she can only be married to him because she's either (1) a weirdo, (2) pitiful towards him, or (3) with him for the money [x], and finally asserts that it's impossible that a woman could fall in love with "a guy like that" [x]. People even view her as "saintly" or an angel for loving him, as though she's carrying a burden no one else was willing to take. This simultaneously favors the able woman over the disabled man, by suggesting that he could never pull such an attractive woman as that, and that she would or should never settle for "a guy like that."

So yes, ableism still exists. Yes, oppression, or the "prolonged cruel or unjust treatment," of disabled people is still very prevalent in society. No one is playing pretend here.

You also say that disabled people "already get visibility and benefits others don't" in a way that suggests that they're lucky to have that, and that others should, too. To those insinuations, no, lol. Just no. To visibility, also no. I am of the notion that we focus much more heavily on racial representation, and even with representation of disabled people, many of those characters are villains, as scars or physical impairments are used as a manner of linking a character's nature with evil. Examples: Frankenstein, Scar, Darth Vader, Freddy Krueger. Maybe even Voldemort, because he doesn't have a nose, lmao. This is not a positive lighting, and only reinforces prejudice against disabled people, unlike the visibility that we receive for other minorities. And to benefits, also no. You cannot generalise disabled people getting benefits. E.g. In my motherland, there is no official federal assistance provided for disabled people, despite the fact that there is a large abundance of them, amputees specifically, because the place is littered with unexploded landmines. Many are homeless, and most of them rely on begging to live. Disabled people may get benefits where you live, but it's like not that everywhere, and honestly, I doubt what is provided is enough, anyway, especially depending on the healthcare system that you might be relying on.

Edit: Some more information has been offered by an acquaintance of mine on the benefits that are provided to disabled people, particularly in the USA, which can be found in her reblog of my post [x].

To express directly why it matters that a character, particularly one like Levi, a hot-as-fuck, absolutely beautiful, kind person, is disabled at the end, it is because you realise his heroism never lied in his physicality the way it always has in other superheroes, but in his mentality, the way it should.

Life Update/Help Needed:

Postpartum depression and anxiety sucks ass so much. Not going to lie, I'm in a shitty place most days and trying to get better.

I'm currently in therapy but struggling to afford it. The waitlist for NHS Mental Health services is actually a joke so I've had to go private. Maternity pay in the UK is appalling and now I'm majorly struggling. My family can't help because of financial issues and it's making my PPD even worse.

It's a lot to ask but if anyone can help in any way, I would be eternally grateful. Depression sucks and it sucks even more when I'm trying to be happy and healthy for my baby.
