Jason Todd x fem!Reader x Roy Harper | Challengers AU

a/n: I don’t have a single respectable thing to say.

part 1 | masterlist
You hate the Stanford dorms more than anything in the whole world, especially in the heat.
All these thousands of dollars poured into your college every single year, only for every single AC unit in the building to be unusable.
“I’m literally going to die.” Roy all but whines as he stares up at the ceiling, fanning his face with a random copy of Vogue he found somewhere in your closet.
“Roy, do me a favour, yeah?” You lift your head from the pillow, reaching over to give the busted fan on your nightstand a solid whack so it keeps spinning, then another one for good measure.
“Mhm?”
“Go slam your head into that wall over there.”
He’s dazed for a moment, his brain working overtime to figure out what you could possibly want from him before he blinks, his lips curling into a small, almost childish pout.
“What did I ever do to you?” He frowns like an idiot, strands of his red hair clinging to his forehead.
“Live, breathe, exist in the same vicinity as me, perhaps?”
What? He asked, you answered.
“You’re lying. You love me.” He grins up at the ceiling, waving the magazine around in his hand before attempting to swat your thigh with it.
Unfortunately, he underestimated how dizzy the heat makes him, resulting in it landing on the floor.
“I can assure you, she doesn’t.” Jason mutters, standing in the doorway of your bathroom, water dripping down his neck and rolling down his bare chest from dunking his face in the sink in a desperate effort to cool off.
“We’re just her boy toys, no? Destined to end up somewhere in a landfill like the rest of ‘em.” He remarks dryly, but you’ve learned to read his expressions and what they mean, he’s just slightly amused judging by the way his eyebrows are slightly raised.
Scoffing, you sit up as you fan your face with your hand, peering over at him through your lashes.
“You make me sound like a bitch.”
Silence.
Jason’s eyes are anywhere but yours, deciding to focus on the fan on your bedside table and how unpredictably it moves, spinning in one direction, and then the other before stopping completely.
A lot like you, he thinks.
Did he seriously just compare you to a fucking busted-up fan?
Roy isn’t saying anything either, now suddenly extremely fascinated by the seam running across your pillow in his lap, dragging his fingers over it.
Okay, maybe you deserved that?
You haven’t brought up what happened last week, like at all. But fuck, if they’re blaming you for this then it’s just hypocritical.
They were literally both there. You’re all somewhat functional adults, yet all three of you are dancing around this.
It seems you’ve all decided to park that thought for now. It’s the hottest day of the year so far and you’re more focused on trying not to literally evaporate on the spot.
Still, this week has been different. You’re spending more time together which is a miracle considering how much of a headache both of them are. Jason has the communication skills of a plank of wood and Roy is so painfully ridiculous you wonder how he’s even made it into adulthood.
The glances linger now, they’re not fleeting like they used to be. Jason is now able to handle a conversation with you for just about 15 seconds at a time, which is great compared to the one or two syllables you used to be able to force out of him.
Roy is still Roy, just more shameless, a feat you didn’t even know was achievable by human standards. His tennis mightn’t be good enough for the Olympics but if there were awards for being the biggest manwhore, he’d know all about having balls in his court.
You haven’t gotten your shirt back either, it’s the only sort of cotton house shirt that wasn’t some kind of overpriced, polyester piece of shit like the ones you wear on the court.
He claims he lost it but knowing Roy, it’s probably shoved under his mattress or something like the freak he is. You grimace at the possibility of him jerking off into it. Your poor T-shirt.
As some weird kind of compensation, he offered you one of his instead. You were hesitant but you needed something breathable in this kind of weather.
Jason blinks for a moment, stepping out of the doorway to stare at what you’re wearing.
I TOLD YA
Bold, black lettering, printed across your tits.
“How’d you get my shirt? I’ve been looking for it.”
You glance down at yourself, then at Jason, and then over at Roy in confusion.
Okay, well you may be on the verge of a heatstroke but even in this state, you all know that items of clothing don’t tend to magically duplicate themselves.
“Roy gave it to me? It’s his shirt..” you trail off, glancing between the two of them once more.
Jason’s hands fall by his sides, staring at Roy.
“How? I have the exact same one and haven’t been able to find it since-“
He pauses, resting his hands on his hips.
Glancing between the two of them, you’re confused for a moment, fidgeting with the hem of it as the three of you work to find the true origins and rightful owner of the shirt you’re currently wearing.
And just like that, it all falls into place, Jason running a hand through his hair.
“Dude.”
If Jason’s shirt has somehow been in Roy’s custody this long.. you’re nearly sure it has gone through the same fate as your one at some point.
Oh!
“Roy you fucking freak.” You mumble into your pillow, reaching out to flip it so the cold side presses against your face.
He just curls his lips into an awkward, somewhat apologetic smile, offering a shrug.
“Jesus, I washed it before I gave it to you, okay?”
Yeah, as if that makes this any better.
“That doesn’t make this any better for me, you fucking degenerate!” Jason groans into his hand, his cheeks flushing from equal parts grave embarrassment and the sweltering heat in your dorm.
“No no no, Jay, you don’t get to call me the degenerate, not after what happened last week-”
Silence, again.
Rolling your eyes you give the fan another solid whack, glancing between them with raised eyebrows.
“Oh, so you two have zero problems jerking eachother off every fucking night, but facing last week is a stretch too far?” You let out an irritated scoff, only to be interrupted by Jason sputtering, throwing his hands up in surrender, his eyes fixed on the floor.
“He did it in his bed, okay? I did it in my bed. We did it together, but like opposites sides of the room..”
He’s rambling, over-explaining.
Roy makes a dismissive gesture of his hand with every syllable he utters, unable to hold back a smirk.
“No, Jason. If my memory serves me right, I can recall you getting up and-“
“Confront your crippling feelings at another time. My head hurts, kay?” You cut them off, letting your face hit the pillow again.
You’re not sure what time it is, you don’t care to check. All you know for sure is the fact you’re still boiling out of your skin and you swear the fan on the side table has been stuck like that since you fell asleep, it sputters awkwardly every couple minutes but judging by the sweat dripping down your neck, it’s useless.
“..stop moving.” You hear a mumble muffled by the pillows, not entirely sure if it’s Jason or Roy talking. You’re too tired to ask, too lazy to lift your head, and too hot to think.
“You’re fuckin’ sweatin’ all over me.” You grumble under your breath, the heavy bodies draped over you on either side making the whole space even warmer.
None of them move, and you hear no response either.
“Jason?” You whisper-yell, only to be met with a sleepy grumble into your neck, his arm draped over your torso.
Right, so it’s Roy who’s complaining then? You’re not entirely sure, though. That must be who’s back you’re facing at the moment.
It seems Roy’s grumble was a one-off and he’s gone back to sleep, thank god, you’ve had enough of his whining for the day.
You shift slightly, attempting to push them off of you, even if it’s just by an inch, only so you can breathe better.
Jason’s having absolutely none of it. Not after Roy cockblocked him last week. He’s not letting that happen this time. No fucking way.
“No, come back,” he breathes against your neck, his fingers curling into the fabric of your (his? Roy’s?) shirt, pushing it up and out of this way.
You’ve heard him say those exact words before. The night all of you refuse to acknowledge.
That goes straight over your head though, your face pushed into your pillow until you feel hands sliding up from your hips to your stomach, fingers pressing into your ribs.
“The fuck?” Your mutter is barely audible, unable to bring yourself to open your eyes.
Jason’s breathing is unsteady, trying to keep himself quiet by pushing his face into your neck, your skin heating up even more.
One of his hands slides back down to your hips, fumbling with the waistband of your underwear to pull it down your thighs, a small, frustrated whine soon following, his sounds muffled by your shoulder.
“Shit, you’re so pretty,”
He swallows, his cock throbbing in his sweatpants as he pushes himself against you, pressing himself against your ass. It’s like he needs to be as close to you as he physically can, despite the heat. He really does.
“M’sorry, fuck m’so sorry..”
His mumbles into your neck are barely coherent, pressing a trail of sleepy, haphazard kisses down the back of your neck, his shaky hand now going to fumble with his waistband, tugging at the drawstrings while he pushes his face into your shoulder in a desperate effort to keep himself quiet.
Your tired little mumbles are so sweet he swears he could just die (or cum) on the spot. You’re so sweet like this. As much as he secretly loves when you make fun of him or boss him around, what he’s feeling for you now is just indescribable.
He almost has a heart attack when he feels you moving, his breathing shaky as he stares at the back of your head through half-lidded eyes.
No, No, No
You’re going to hate him. He’s ruined everything. He feels like he could cry, but he wouldn’t even have a fucking excuse to explain himself other than his almost pitiful need for you.
Shit. He’s done it. He’s definitely fucked up now and you’re gonna know he’s a fucking creep and you’re gonna turn around any second and yell at him and-
He blinks in disbelief, feeling your hand resting over his to stop the fact he’s still fucking around aimlessly with the flimsy cotton, trying to get your panties down your thighs.
And when he feels your hand slide down lower, pulling your underwear to the side - he swears he can’t breathe.
“Thank you, thank you - fuck - thank you,” He’s panting in your ear like a mantra, his hips stuttering as he attempts to line himself up against you, his pre-cum already leaking down your thighs.
Jason seems to be hell-bent on keeping his face hidden in your shoulder, where he attempts helplessly to stifle his own sounds. He’s spooning you in a tangled mess of limbs and bedsheets, in an almost laughable attempt to restrain himself.
He can't fuck you like he wants to, unfortunately, and that kills him inside. Of course, Roy just fucking has to be here huh?
“Fuck,”
Just the thought of it has his grip on your hips tightening.
Don’t get him wrong, he loves Roy, really. But come on, the fact they’re literally fucking inseparable from the court - to sharing a dorm - to literally bending over backwards for the same woman is ridiculous.
“Shit,” he half-whispers, half-whines into your ear with a shaky thrust of his hips. “I don’t give a fuck if he wakes up, serves him right for givin’ me blue balls this whole fuckin’ time.”
He’s lying, he cares.
He’d probably cry out of embarrassment for the fact Roy could see him as weak, sobbing over pussy like last time.
God, he cares so much what that guy thinks. It’s almost laughable.
But he cares what you think more.
Besides, that’s like the most you’ve ever heard him talk in one go. He sounds like he just learned what swearing is.
“Jason,” Your grip on your pillow tightens, reaching your other hand back to the nape of his neck, giving his hair a tug, “S-shut. Up.”
You manage to open your eyes, your half-lidded gaze landing on the back of Roy’s head, trying to keep yourself and Jason quiet.
Roy is quiet. Eerily quiet.
Now, those are two words that simply shouldn’t belong in the same sentence.
He hasn’t moved an inch in a while you swear you're getting wetter by the second. You can tell Jason can feel it too, panting into your shoulder like a bitch.
You’re tempted to just roll your eyes and somehow find a way to move this to the couch or something, part of you feels bad that you’re making Jason hold back like this. Another part of you wants to ignore Roy, tell Jason to hurry up and make you cum so you can forget about all of this even happening.
Then you hear it.
A quiet creak from the far side of the mattress.
Your eyes narrow, now locked on Roy’s back in front of you, the muscles rippling under his skin as he moves.
The thought of it makes you tense, Jason can feel it too, you’re moving your hips back against him, your hand going to hold his as he ruts against you, his teeth sinking into the back of your neck.
Roy sighs, loudly. Loud enough to have your eyes fully open along with Jason trying not to cry into your neck, shaking with need and rambling under his breath about how badly he just needs to fuck you harder.
“Harper,” Your words leave you before your brain even registers them, Jason hiding his face in your hair.
“Uh-huh?” Roy swallows, internally praying to every single deity to ever exist that you’re not about to ask him to-
“Turn around,”
He’s silent when your words hit his ears, echoing through his otherwise empty skull before he jolts, his shorts halfway down his thighs with his hand wrapped around himself, pushing his face into your other shoulder.
When words finally find him, he’s biting down on your collarbone, a stark contrast to Jason’s messy kisses as he tries to hold himself back.
“You two aren’t fucking subtle.” Roy’s words leave his mouth in a rasp, lifting one of your thighs up so he has a better angle for himself, his chest now presses against yours.
“I could feel your fucking eyes on the back of my head,” He swallows, his fingers digging into the flesh of your thigh, moving to slot himself between them.
“And don’t get me fucking started on Jay over here.” He scoffs, fumbling with the drawstring of his shorts to push them down his thighs.
Jason’s trying to hide his face in your neck, but it’s clearly not working, considering the way he throbs inside you when Roy’s eyes lock onto his.
It’s a weird mixture of shame and sheer desperation, his arm locking around your torso like you’re his only shield from his own embarrassment.
You can hear Roy pant out a shaky laugh, running a hand over his sweat-slicked hair to tuck it out of his eyes, his form keeping you boxed against Jason.
It’s like you’re walking in on something again, even when Jason is literally balls deep inside you.
“Fuck,” he lets out a shaky breath, pressing himself into your thighs while Jason’s hips are trembling, trying to keep himself together as he fucks you from behind.
Roy tilts his head to kiss you, his breathing laboured as his pierced tongue brushes against yours, his half-lidded eyes aren’t on you though.
They’re locked on Jason, unwavering.
He pulls his lips away from yours, staring at Jason through his half lidded gaze before your pushing his face down into your neck, biting lightly at your skin as he pushes himself into your thighs, pulling one of your legs over his hip.
“He’s obsessed with you, yknow that? And you think I’m the perv.”
“Roy, can you just shut the fuck up?” Jason’s voice cracks, his grip on you tightening with an all but desperate thrust of his hips, hiding his face in your hair again.
“What? Am I hurting your feelings jaybird? Embarrassing you in front of a pretty girl?” Roy sneers, his teeth gleaming under the dim streetlight coming in through the cracked blinds, his grin not leaving his face for a second.
It wouldn’t be the first time. Roy making him embarrassed, that is.
“No, no, he’s lying, fuck- I swear he’s lying.” Jason’s words are more of a plea than anything else, trying to act like he’s normal about all of this, as if he hasn’t been rotting his brain.
“See why the fuck would I lie about that?” Roy murmurs, his one going to your waist as he thrusts himself into the gap between your thighs, his other reaching over your shoulder to pull Jason in by the neck do his chin rests on your shoulder, pressing his thumb against his bottom lip.
Right in front of my salad?
You let your head fall back against Jason’s shoulder, his shaky pants muffled by the nape of your neck as you push yourself back against him.
Your lashes flutter slightly as you stare at Roy, leaning your head against Jason’s now.
“The longer you spend running your mouth about him, the longer you’ll be making it up to him.”

a/n: yeah.

Greg "Mouse" Gerwitz x Reader
Part 2 of Dynasty
Can a broken heart still beat?
Warnings: Character death, depression, drug use, suicide, reading of a suicide note, true love not letting death get in the way? Idk where this came from, no wait I do! blame @desimarie12
Mouse sat in the chair next to your bed, eyes never leaving your face. The solid sound of the machine helping your lungs push air through your body was the only sound in the room. Every moment that ticked by and you clung to life was a moment he managed to draw a breath. Twenty four hours, that was what the doctor told them. You were closing in on eighteen hours and still holding on.
The door cracked open and he didn’t have to look up to know it was Erin and Jay. They hadn’t left the hospital either but they’d stayed in the waiting room throughout the night until visiting hours rolled back into effect or well until Sergeant Benson called in a favor and suddenly it didn’t matter if the three of them were all in your room or not as long as they stayed out of the way. “She’s still holding on man” Jay spoke softly, putting a hand on his shoulder.
He nodded slowly “Holding on is a lot different than waking up Jay. She’s strong, she’s so damn strong but what if her body can’t handle this?” even simply giving voice to the thought was enough to force another round of tears from his eyes, they slid silently down his face. Erin stepped up next to him, slipping her hand down in his and squeezing it gently “If there’s any way for her to find her way back to you she will. She loves you so much”
He squeezed her hand back, wishing he could offer her some word of comfort. You would want him to, that was your best friend but any word fell flat on his lips. He didn’t blame her by no means, he would never do that simply because he knew you. If an innocent person was in danger around you, especially a kid? Nothing would’ve stopped you from saving them. Even at the expense of yourself. “This isn’t your fault Erin” he whispered, his voice shaking slightly and he could hear her inhale sharply before she said “I called her to this task force Mouse”
He cut his eyes up at her and saw tears sliding down her face “Don’t mourn her yet Erin, please. I can’t…I can’t handle that” she nodded, wiping at her eyes “I’m sorry” and turned to walk out. Jay looked back at him then at the door “I’ll go check on her. If you need anything man, just yell.I’ll be right outside”
Mouse listened to Jay leave and thought to himself, how would Jay ever give him what he needed? What he needed was for you to wake up. For those beautiful eyes to be looking back at him, that smile you had anytime you were hurt and trying to hide it plastered on your face and you joking about the fact that you wanted a vacation to New York City but maybe not like this. That was what he needed.
He leaned up to let his hand brush against yours, fingers curling around yours “Baby, I don’t know if you can hear me but I’m here. Jay’s here too and Erin. The moment Erin called me and Jay got on a plane. I haven’t left your side. I’m not leaving your side. You are everything to me, you hear me? Everything. So I really need you to wake up. Whatever you want is yours. Every argument the rest of our lives you’ve now won before they ever start. You want to steal my coffee every day? It’s yours. Hog the blankets? Please take em. Have the water so hot in the shower I swear it’s gonna scald us both? It’ll be fine, we know plenty of good doctors. I just need you to wake up..Please baby wake up” he could feel the tears flowing down his face but he didn’t care you were still holding on for something, he was praying for the first time in his life that the something was him.He was praying that you were fighting to come back to him. He couldn’t do this without you. He didn’t want to.

When the twenty four hour mark hit, doctors swarmed your room. It seemed like you shocked most of the hospital by making it that long. Mouse stood back with Erin and Jay watching as the doctors went over your injuries with each other, talking about running more tests and further treatments.
“What now?” Jay asked, breaking their conversation because so far he’d been the one out the three of them to talk to the medical team the most. He had no choice but to hold it together, for Mouse and Erin both. “Detective Halstead, we’re doing everything we can for her” the doctor assured them but about that time your hand twitched.
“She moved,” Mouse whispered and stepped forward. The doctors all turned towards you but to Mouse’s horror you started to seize, he could see red stains start to seep through the bandages covering your body and something started coming out of the tube down your throat “Get them out of here” the doctor told Jay nodded towards Mouse and Erin.
“Fuck you, I’m not leaving her” Mouse fought, struggling against Jay who was trying to grab his arm. He’d promised you he wouldn’t leave your side. “Officer Gerwitz you don’t want to see this” a nurse assured him, grabbing his other arm he turned to look at her and saw the tears in her eyes and this time when his legs went out from under him no one was there to catch him. His knees buckled and he hit the floor on them, watching as the doctors and nurses moved around your bed.
He was helpless to move, hell he couldn’t form a thought as he watched them shock your body, it jolting off the bed. “Greg, come on man. Don’t be in here for this” Jay tried, choking back a sob as his wide eyes landed on the bed as well. “I’m not leaving her” he whispered, even as the movements of the medical team ceased and they called the words that stopped his own heart beating in his chest “Time of death one eleven p.m.”

Mouse sat on the front pew of the church in his dress uniform, staring at your casket that was covered in the CPD flag. The unit was sitting around him, Erin was on his left side and Jay was on his right. He could’ve cared less. He was alone. You were gone.
He gripped his dogtags in his hand, the ring he’d never given you now rested on the chain. He had planned to slip it on your finger the moment you got home from New York. He’d never dreamt you getting home would’ve been in a body bag. The little girl you’d saved, Clarissa. She’d gotten her parents to fly her out for the funeral. She’d spoken with his blessing.
She’d hugged him and told him she was so sorry you were gone. He’d tried to act like anything she said mattered, Erin had given him a small nod so maybe it had seemed like it did to him. He was glad the little girl was safe, that much was true. These niceties, the apologies they wouldn’t bring you back. They wouldn’t fix the gaping hole in his chest. They wouldn’t give him a reason to get up every day.
Hank stood at the front of the church and nodded to the unit. They would carry you out to the hearse then carry you to your grave. The last time Mouse would have you in his arms in any way would be helping to carry you to your grave. They’d wanted him to not help but what kind of man would he be if he couldn’t carry the woman he loved to the end?
He stood with his team, positioning his cover on his head, tears streaming down his face as they all took their positions on your casket. Him and Erin were in front. They lifted you up and walked as one out of the church. Nothing had ever felt heavier than the weight of that casket, knowing it carried you inside.
_________________
At the cemetery they spoke of you. How you lived, how you loved. How you died being a hero. Mouse stood to the side, blue eyes glued to the light grey casket. One by one those of your unit were allowed to place a photo or something inside. Erin placed a photo of you, her and Nadia. Jay put his lucky keychain, Adam put a coin Makayla had asked him to give you, Kim had a stuffed animal from their niece. Kevin had three red roses. One from him, one from his brother and one from his sister.
When Hank looked over at him he walked over to the casket, footsteps slowing when he got near it. The dress Erin and your aunt picked looked exactly like something you’d wear and the funeral home had done a good job. You almost looked like you were asleep. Almost. He laid the dogtags across your chest “I’m sorry you never got this ring. I’m sorry I never made you my wife. I love you and always will” he whispered then slowly closed the casket, staring at your face until the last moment possible.

Mouse sat on the bed, photos of you scattered around him. Your smiling face looking back at him from every one. Your pillow still vaguely smelled of your shampoo, your coffee mug was still in the strainer, the last load of laundry you’d asked him to get out of the dryer and he’d forgotten still sat in the machine. The candle you loved sat half burnt next to the bed, the movie you and him planned to finish when you got home was still saved on the dvr.
He tried. He tried for weeks, he tried. The pain was ripping him apart more and more every day. He found a new dealer, it was fairly easy. He was high more days than sober now. The very thing you’d always feared, he’d gone back to his old ways but who was there to care? He’d lost the only reason he had for breathing, the very air in his lungs. He clicked his laptop, watching the video of you and him Jay had taken at the halloween party a few months before. You were laughing, arms around his waist and looking at him like he was the most important thing “Forever and a day Gerwitz?” just hearing your voice over the video made tears hit his eyes as he heard his own voice reply “Forever and a day love”
He stared at the bottle in his hand. It was enough, he’d made sure of it. He couldn’t do this anymore. He had to be with you. The pain was too much. He’d considered just using his gun but he knew Jay would find him and he couldn’t do that to him. This way he’d just go to sleep and wouldn’t wake up. A lot less for Jay to find.
He sat the envelope with Jay’s name on the laptop and opened the bottle along with the bourbon. He’d see you again and the pain would stop. That was all that mattered.

Jay walked slowly into the apartment, calling Mouse’s name out. He knew something was wrong but he hadn’t expected what awaited him either.
______________________
Jay and Erin sat together between yours and Mouse’s graves. Hank had pulled some strings, his death had been ruled a heart attack so he’d gotten a proper CPD burial and they’d made sure it was right next to you where he belonged. Hank had even footed the bill for your headstones to read “Loving Husband” and “Loving Wife” ; it was only suitable. Not even death stopped the love you two had for each other.
“Have you read his letter yet?” she asked and he shook his head and fished it out then held it out to her “Here, you do it” she took it then cleared her throat:
Jay, I’m sorry that I know you’ll be the one to find me. I wished there was someone else but we both know with her gone there isn’t. I’ve tried man, I really have. I can’t continue to live in a world she’s not in. She was always the air in my lungs and every day without her I suffocate more and more. When I met her I found my reason to keep going and the day I lost her I lost that reason. If there’s a life after this I will find her in it and love her it it, if there isn’t at least the pain will stop. Please don’t hold onto guilt over me and don’t let Erin hold onto guilt over her. We both knew our best friends loved us. Be happy man, if you find love don’t wait for anything. See you in the next life brother, Mouse
They were both crying by the time Erin was through reading. Jay slipped an arm around her and pulled her over onto his shoulder “I just hope they’re together” she whispered. “Me too” he replied, the wind catching their words as it blew past your graves maybe carrying that message on.

One moment Mouse was swallowing a handful of pills and not fighting against the urge to close his eyes, the next he was laying on a patch of grass. Grass? How did he get outside? “Wake up Greg” he heard your voice and felt your hand on his face and for a moment thought he was hallucinating, the pills hadn’t worked. They’d just caused this.
He felt the air move around him then your other hand went to the opposite side of his face and he heard your light laughter “I swear if you don’t open those gorgeous blue eyes Gerwitz” he slowly opened his eyes and you were kneeled in front of him, real as day. Your hair was in a braid like you always wore it during summer, you were wearing a light blue shirt with cut off shorts and sneakers. You looked happy and healthy.
“Sweetheart? Is that really you?” you nodded, tears shining in your eyes “It’s really me Greg” he pulled you into his arms and you laughed, letting him wrap both arms around you. “How? Baby, where are we? What happened?” when he rolled so he was holding his weight on his arms and you were under him in the grass you smiled sadly up at him, running your fingers up into his hair and he closed his eyes, feeling tears threaten at feeling your touch “Why are you here so soon? You had so much life left” you whispered and he opened his eyes, looking down at you.
His girl. Whole and here with him. Wherever here was, it didn’t matter. He had you in his arms. “No I didn’t love. My life ended the day you left” you smiled “I love you Greg” then pulled him down to you. The moment your lips met his both of you let tears slip free. When you pulled away from his lips he leaned his forehead against yours “I love you so much” you grinned “Forever and a day Gerwitz?” he nodded “Forever and a day baby”

[RERUN] Dungeons & Dragons Module 3-4: Citadel of Shadow
[As always, all animated images are owned by TSR Wizards of the Coast Hasbro and Marvel Disney. I’m a huge fan. Please don’t sue me]
At this point, I would expect the players to be showing up to the table with torches and pitchforks, as the DM hasn’t allowed the party to do anything noteworthy (or at least worthy of earning XP) since this portion of the campaign began. The DM responds by giving adventure geared toward something that we haven’t seen yet in the campaign (No, not a way home…character development)
If you would like to view the episode, it’s available on YouTube.
Where the PCs are:
Sheila, Diana, and Presto are still level 9, Bobby, Hank, and Eric are still level 8. Hank and Eric should level up this adventure (assuming the DM awards any XP, unlike the last three adventures!)
We open to Sheila upset with Eric (that seems normal) following a successful Fetch Quest from Dungeon Master for some sort of ring (however, no XP was awarded as this happened before the adventure started. I can already hear the players grumbling threateningly) Their argument is interrupted by…
..an army of Orcs coming over the hill. Eric tries running the other way, but there’s a second horde coming from that direction (talk about a grudge monster!)
Hank fires his bow into one of the hordes, scattering them enough for the party to run through. The party runs into a nearby forest, but the Orcs don’t follow. Eric thinks his taunting them scared ‘em of, but more likely it was…
…the idol on top of the mountain that the DM neglected to mention until just now.
You said it, Deadpool!
The Orcs send word to Venger that the party is trapped in the Hills of Never (to which Venger will either (a) tell the Orcs to Orc up and get in there to retrieve them or (2) realize he’ll have to come do it himself)
Meanwhile in the Hills of Never…
…(which looks more like a mountain range than a group of hills), Eric is recapping what happened before the adventure began (no doubt thanks to some copious note passing) and taking all the credit. Diana reads from her own note and tells Eric the ring they retrieved was only part of the quest. Eric lays the blame game thick on Sheila (who apparently was startled and alerted Goblins during the off-camera quest. You know, I think I’d have rather seen that than whatever this is)
...which makes Sheila cry (to be fair, every time Eric screws up they lay into him hard, so maybe this is just a bit of payback)
Later that evening, Sheila hears someone else having a good cry. She goes to alert the rest of the party, but decides she needs to prove herself instead, so wanders off, Uni in tow. Eventually they find…
…a girl behind a force field. The girl tells Sheila to reach through the field to get to her. Eventually, she succeeds, breaking the spell
(which Venger feels, so I’m guessing he’ll take option 2)
The pair share an embrace, and if this was a more progressive DM, we might see Sheila in yet another romantic development (her third, if you count Ramoud wanting to adopt her)
Meanwhile, back at camp, the party has woken up and realized Sheila is missing. Bobby quickly starts blaming (and threatening) Eric when…
You knew he’d show up eventually.
Dungeon Master gives the party the next clue on their mission: place the ring (known as the Ring of the Heart) over the Ring of the Mind to release the power to send them home (I wonder what bullshit excuse will be given that they can’t go this time?) and the Riddle of the Week: “In shadow, there lies great danger…and great rewards” before vanishing. Suddenly, the mountains hills begin to move, surrounding the party!
Meanwhile Sheila and her “friend” (who is name Karena) are walking along a narrow winding path. Karena says her brother has hidden her ring (the Ring of Power…is there a Ring of Fire and a Ring of Earth as well?) in a place known as the Citadel of Shadow.
Sheila nearly falls off the path to a rather large drop below when Karena pulls her back, saying she needs Sheila (that’s either romantic or ominous) At the end of the path is…
…the Citadel of Shadow, which looks like Singe’s castle from Dragon’s Lair. Karena warns this could be dangerous (and yet she’s dressed less appropriately for danger than Sheila), but Sheila will not be deterred. Karena says she was hoping for that (in a way that sounds less and less romantic
…and Uni agrees)
Meanwhile, the mountains are continuing to rain down on the party. Presto tries to magic something to help.
I’d say he hit the jackpot! Presto blows a hole in the cavern wall and the party makes their escape. As they escape, they see the Citadel in the distance and figure it looks shady enough to be the “shadow” Dungeon Master was alluding to, so off they go!
Meanwhile, at Singe’s castle the Citadel, Sheila and Karena sneak in (almost locking Uni out) They eventually reach a door, but when Karena goes to open it…
Something obviously doesn’t want her to enter. Karena claims her brother put a spell on the door, but maybe it won’t stop Sheila.
Now we know why Karena needs her. And Uni’s figured that out as well, as she tries to stop Sheila, but too late as Sheila opens the doors, revealing a ring on a pedestal. Uni tries to whinny (or whatever noise she normally makes) a warning, but Karena silences her (no, not that way, this is Kids’ TV! She just clamps her hand over Uni’s muzzle)
Sheila grabs the ring and the room goes all Indiana Jones on her
…collapsing inches behind her as she runs out. As Sheila collapses into the main chamber, Karena takes the ring, revealing her true intent
…and now that she has her ring, it’s time to tie up loose ends (yes, that way!)
Meanwhile, the party has reached the Citadel and has entered in time to save Sheila. Hank asks who her friend is, but before Sheila can say she’s no friend…
Knock knock!
It turns out that Karena’s brother is Venger (and Dungeon Master is their father. That’s one fucked up family!) The party beats a hasty retreat before sibling rivalry brings the house…err, Citadel down. Venger once again retreats in a non-corporeal form as Karena collapses outside the wreckage of the Citadel.
Karena asks for the party’s help, and they gladly offer it (except Sheila…after all, “Fool me once…”), so she asks for the Ring of the Mind so she can have Absolute Power.
However, Daddy shows up to say how disappointed he is in Karena, and that she should be happy she got the Ring of the Heart back. With that, she sulks and vanishes.
Dungeon Master tells the party of the sibling rivalry (minus the part about his being their father, naturally), and that Karena’s ring is the one the party needs (when joined with the Ring of the Mind, which they have) to return home. Confused yet? Dungeon Master further muddies the waters with another riddle: “One of you will have to be more wrong than right, but let your heart guide you” before vanishing once again. Hank figures that they should start looking at Venger’s castle, since they’re siblings. Sure, but which one? We’ve seen over a dozen so far in this campaign.
Meanwhile, at Venger’s castle…
We’re starting to see the family resemblance. The leader of the Orcs is telling Karena that most of her army has joined Venger. Needless to say, she is not pleased. If this wasn’t Kids’ TV, she’d probably kill a few deserters to persuade the rest to come back. Instead, she just hurls insults.
And outside, the party is sneaking around what’s left of the Orcs to Venger’s Karena’s castle. The party is coming up with a plan (for once) However…
Sheila decides to split the party and go after Karena herself. Bobby calls after her, alerting every Orc in the valley to their presence.
Well, at least they’ll be a nice distraction so the Thief can sneak in.
Once inside, she finds Karena (or rather, Karena finds her) quickly.
Karena demands the ring, but Sheila claims Hank has it. Karena decides Sheila would make a nice hostage, but Sheila puts up her cloak and disappears. She taunts Karena, making her fire her magic bolts wildly (and obviously rolling horribly on her attack rolls) Eventually, she gets so worked up she lets her guard down and…
The Thief does her job admirably. I would count this as a defeat. In her current form, Karena is a match for Venger, so Sheila earns 63,580XP. Sheila gives one last taunt as she rushes out of the castle back to the party.
The party is about to join the rings for their trip home when Sheila hears Venger returning to his castle to have a discussion” with his sister. Sheila can’t let Venger kill (or whatever the Kids’ TV version would be) Karena and rushes back in
…seeing Karena bound to the wall with magic restraints. Karena tells Sheila to throw the rings at Venger…
…which banishes Venger for another 63,580XP. Well, at least we know one PC will be leveling up. Did the DM start dating Sheila or something? The force of Venger’s banishment stuns Sheila, sending her to the floor at Karena’s feet.
With Venger gone, the restraints vanish. The Ring of the Heart rolls toward the pair. Karena approaches Sheila, but…
The party enters the chamber, and don’t look in a forgiving mood. Dungeon Master appears behind the party and approaches, giving Karena the Ring of the Heart back. He then explains that the Ring of the Mind has (for now) imprisoned Venger and freed Karena of Evil’s influence, but is gone (as is yet another chance to go home. I swear, if the party could just gain a sliver of ruthlessness they’d be home free)
The only XP awarded was to Sheila: 127,160. This is well more than enough for her to reach level 10 (in fact, she earns more than she can, as she must stop earning 1XP shy of level 11 (losing almost 40,000XP as a result)). At least the DM has managed to deflect the party’s ire away from him and toward that kill-stealer Sheila, right?
Let’s see if the rest of the party can gain any XP next time.

Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x bau female reader

Word Count: 984 words

Author's Note: I am NOT a writer by any means, but I am open to comments/suggestions/improvements or anything. Thank you for reading !!
Saturday nights are for the girls. Being in the BAU, you often don’t get a ton of free Saturday nights. However, the nights you are at home, you get together with your favorite BAU girls.
“Time to get this fucking party started!” Emily shouted walking into your apartment, holding a bottle of tequila in her hand.
“She may have had a drink or two before I picked her up,” JJ walked in, shaking her head.
You laugh, as you finish cutting up lemon slices for the shots. “Sounds like we’ve got to catch up!”
“Don’t start without me my lovelies,” Penelope chided, bringing snacks in her arms.
“We wouldn’t dare!” Emily mocked as she started pouring the tequila in the four waiting shot glasses.
Penelope starts setting up the bowls of snacks she brought on the coffee table in the living room and makes her way over to the kitchen with JJ and you.
“Here’s to ruining our livers,” Emily proclaims, raising her glass.
“Here’s to killing Em for the inevitable hangovers we’ll have tomorrow,” you follow.
“Cheers!” All four glasses clink together, as JJ and Penelope wince, chasing the sharp liquid with the lemons and salt.
“Are you two demons straight from hell?” Penelope looks shocked as you and Emily set the glasses down with a straight face, ignoring the lemons and the salt at the side.
You shrug as Emily looks at you, “You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy tequila. Which is pretty much the same thing.”
“Word,” Emily echoed as she began pouring another shot.
A couple hours later, the four of you moved into the living room. The conversations led to men and sex, as it normally does after half the bottle of tequila and a bottle of wine.
“How’s that New Orleans hottie treating ya JJ?” Penelope questioned, wiggling her eyebrows.
“Will is wonderful, couldn’t ask for a better man,” JJ responded lovingly.
“Pffff,” Emily scoffed. “That’s not what she was asking! How’s the sex?”
JJ blushed, “No problems in that area. I am very satisfied.”
“Ooooo ok Will!” Penelope and Emily cheered, laughing.
You all burst into laughter as Emily’s eyes shifted to you.
You opened your mouth to try and distract her from what you know she is going to ask you, but she beats you to it. “Not so fast, don’t think I didn’t notice that freshly marked hickey on your neck this morning. Who’s the hunk?”
You rolled your eyes, “He will remain unnamed.”
“Oh come onnn. Tell us something about him,” Penelope whined as JJ giggled.
You tried to get all serious as you sat cross-legged and leaned your arms against your knees. “He is so sweet and caring, but don’t let that fool you, cause he is so dominant in bed. We’ve only been dating for like 2-3 weeks, but we haven’t really talked yet. We want to take it slow. I promise I will tell you all when we are ready.”
They all looked at you. “Sooo, you like being dominated, huh?” Emily winks.
You throw a pillow at her, “Shut it.”
“You learn something new about your friends everyday,” JJ teases.
Penelope adds, “You seem really happy with him. I’m glad you found that babe.”
You begin to smile thinking about your relationship with Aaron. “I truly am!”
Emily playfully rolls her eyes at the smile on your face, “Have you guys said I love you yet?”
“No, not yet. I’m worried he won’t feel the same. But it’s fine. It’s still too early,” you shrug.
“I don’t blame you, it took me forever to tell Will that I love him,” JJ agrees.
“I don’t know about you ladies, but I’m ready to hit the sack,” Penelope yawned.
You laughed and you got up, very drunk. “I made the guest rooms for you guys. Let me know if you need anything!”
“Thanks. Goodnight. See your hungover asses in the morning,” came the replies as everyone headed to bed.
You sit on your bed and look at the time. The numbers on the screen telling you it is too late to call him. But you think about it for a minute before tapping on Aaron’s number. You lower the volume on your phone before putting it to your ear. “I’m way too drunk for this, I wonder if he’ll even pick up. It is 2 am, he’s probably asleep,” you ramble, unaware that Aaron is listening to every word on the other side.
“Hello?” you hear, stopping your words in its tracks. “Hello?” you answer back.
“Hey honey, is everything alright?” Aaron asks concerned but fighting a smile.
“Hey babe. Yeah I’m fine. Why are you still up?” you question, remembering it was 2 am.
“Jack wanted to start watching a marvel movie marathon so we started that, but he fell asleep halfway through,” Aaron smiles. “Why are you still up?”
“Drinking with the girls,” you answer.
“How drunk are you right now?”
“You probably don’t want the answer to that babe…” you smirk as you lay down under the covers.
Aaron sighs, “You’re probably right. What’s on your mind?”
“Oh nothing. We are all talking about relationships and they were asking me about ours. So I told them some stuff but not who, obviously. However, it got me thinking more about us and I know it’s early but I don’t know. Aaron, I just wanted to say I love you,” you mumble sleepy.
“Oh, sweetheart. I was going to wait until tomorrow to tell you in person, but I love you too. You are the best thing that came into mine and Jack’s lives,” Aaron replies. “Are you there?” he asks after not hearing your voice.
You soft snores tell him the answer. He laughs, “I love you sweetheart, sleep well.”
You wake up the next morning with a throbbing headache. You roll over, groaning as you pick up your phone. The first text message you see is from Aaron.
Aaron: Good night honey. I love you more. ❤️

Smile
Word Count: 3467 Requested: yes. Based off ‘505′ Warnings: strong hints to sexual disposition. Spoilers if you squint.
“I’d probably still adore you with your hands around my neck... I did last time I checked.” -Arctic Monkeys, ‘505′.
.✫*゚・゚。.★.*。・゚✫*.
With hoarse breath and unwavering eyes, you look up to the stars as you speak. “So, you’re really going to do it then?”
“I have to,” you hear him say. His voice has gotten far more mature and calm since the first time you’d heard him speak. Still angry and determined, but in an intelligent, adult way. Eren is a more capable person now. The only thing left to do is wait and see if that’s a good thing, or a bad thing.
“What do you think are the chances of winning?” you question. A shooting star whizzes across the sky at that very moment, and it’s gone before you can think of a wish.
You turn around to face him, but his eyes are already on you. Once upon a time, Eren’s eyes were emerald and teal and deep. Now they’re paler. They are cold and steady as a byproduct of who he’s become. It’s hard not to wonder what he’s thinking about when he looks at you like this, especially since he’s become harder to read over the years.
At first, Eren was one of the most insufferable people you’d ever met. He acted out so often, it was hard to see him as another person of intelligent life. You mostly just minded your business through your cadet years, usually hanging around Reiner, who was also difficult to see as intelligent life. Sometimes you and Eren would argue, but it was never passionate. You just had different world views.
Things got better when you found out what Eren really was. Since you hadn’t made top ten, you could only choose between the Garrison Regiment, or the Scout Regiment. And with Eren’s newly discovered power showing the promise of hope, you decided on the Scouts. He liked that.
After that, it was hard not to mature at the same time as he. Eren often blamed himself for the death and carnage that surrounded the regiment. You were solely responsible for the passing of your best friend. And after everything that happened with the government, almost dying at Shiganshina- you knew you couldn’t stand this much longer. With your relationship with Eren still budding in its early and steamy stages, he was the only one you told of your desertion. You abandoned the corps, finding a small, abandoned farm within wall Maria to hide out in.
Eren was too tired and sick of everything to think you were being cowardly. He wanted to leave too. Maybe come with you. But Eren had plans in the works that he couldn’t leave alone. He visited you less and less. Luckily you never made a fuss.
And now Eren wants to end the world, to save the world. How does he expect you to react to this?
“I just thought I should see you,” Eren replies. You know he’s deflecting your question. You’re not stupid.
You nod slowly, blinking as you think. “Am I going to die?”
Your companion crosses his arms calmly. “Yes,” he tells you.
There it is.
“You know I can’t support you in this, right?” you tell Eren, equally as calm.
He only replies after a moment, also in deep thought. “I know.”
You look back up to the sky, sighing out through your nose. “Why did you come, Eren? Did you want me to tell you that I think you’re doing the right thing? Or was it because you need to let out some anger? I wonder.”
“I did want to see you.”
“Do you still?”
Silence.
“Yes.”
“And I suppose there’s nothing I can do to change your mind?”
“No.”
The stars are glittering with pastel hues, like a rainbow, or kaleidoscope. Each one is a different size, bordering on different shapes, all fusing and melting together like your idea of heaven. You can barely even see the midnight color of the sky through all them. It is beautiful, but it’s also bitter. Everything is bitter, here.
“I didn’t make myself any dinner yet,” you say. “Couldn’t think of anything.”
.✫*゚・゚。.★.*。・゚✫*.
When she was alive, Eren’s mother would make a soup for the family. It was creamy, hot, filled with meat and cheese at the bottom. Eren never liked soup, but he did love that dish. She was always sure to make extra for him, so that he could enjoy it for several days. And although it wasn’t until after she was gone that Eren realized he rarely ever thanked her for it, it was still one of the warmest memories Eren had.
He fills your wooden bowl with it, being awfully generous. He knows that even though you haven’t eaten much in the last few years, you too had grown fond of the soup. He knows no matter how slowly you force it down, you are enjoying it. It burns the roof of your mouth every time, but you’ve never cared. All that matters is the creamy sauce, and the cow cooked to perfection.
You stare at the fireplace beside you, flames cackling and licking upward. Eren sets the bowl in front of you, and takes the seat on the other side. You know he sets his long hair behind his shoulders. You’re already prepared. From your pocket, you produce a stretchy brown hair tie on the verge of snapping, handing it to him.
“Thanks,” he says, even though this routine has happened however many times he’s seen you.
“You’re welcome.”
The soup is as amazing as usual. You’re willing to bet Eren makes it even better than his mother did, but you dare not say it aloud. It’s creamy, perfectly seasoned. It goes down your throat, still steaming.
“Does Mikasa know about this?” you question, taking one more delicious bite.
“No. None of them do,” Eren answers. “Armin will figure it out soon.”
“You want me to kill ‘em?”
Eren shakes his head. To a lot of people, this would be taken as a joke. But this is nowhere near it. Your tone is too casual, too low for it to be humor of any kind. And the way the man across from you reacts- he’s thinking the same thing.
“No.”
“How are they, then?”
Eren thinks as he takes another bite, the warmth creeping up his chest sweetly. “They’re alright for now. I don’t know for how much longer. I can’t see everything.”
“Can you see who’s next?”
He squints at his bowl as if he were angry, but his eyebrows barely move. “Sasha.”
Sasha. She was always a good presence to have around. While she seemed like the type of person who would annoy you, it was hard to hate her. And you admired her keen intuition anyway.
“Will you give her something for me?”
Eren nods. Then you both go back to eating for a few seconds, basking in the orange glow from the flames.
“How are things here?” he questions after a minute.
“The same,” you tell him. “I think the cow might die soon.”
Some people might reply with condolences, or sympathy. But your lover does not, and you do not expect him to. “I’ll get you a new one,” he says flatly, almost like a promise. You nod once.
Despite the atmosphere which can only be described as bitter, you’re glad to see Eren again. You’re glad that he’s alive, and as alright as he can be. The bed is always colder without him, heated up only by your lingering fingers that you pretend are his every other night. Whenever he leaves an article of clothing behind, usually on purpose, you hold off on washing it so it can smell like him for you as long as possible. Then there are the hair ties you keep either in your pocket or on your wrist, specifically for him. The razors in your cabinet he often didn’t even bother using.
Even with the sullen demeanor that had managed to overtake both of you, there was at least one thing you cared about in the world still. Maybe it wasn’t the most conventional kind of caring, or the healthiest coping mechanism. But it was still caring. And all that you cared about was him.
You knew you weren’t Eren’s first priority. You were probably second, or third. It didn’t bother you. Eren’s head was one of the first things lost when the truth was presented to him. It came back coldly and sternly, in contrast to how previously hot and impatient it had been. But by then your head had also grown colder and sterner. In simpler terms, Eren did care for you. He did love you. But he would consider letting you die if it meant achieving what he set out to do, and you knew this.
Across the table, Eren lifts his head to look up at you as he chews slowly. The burning meal slides down his throat easily, albeit painfully. It doesn’t even register with him, his piercing eyes slowly gaining a glint from the fire light.
You meet his eyes after a few seconds, feeling them on you. You don’t say a word, don’t even give a questioning look. You just hold him patiently, which is something the two of you find yourself doing often.
“You can’t stop it,” Eren speaks, looking you dead in the eyes with a steady gaze. There is love behind his eyes, far behind the anger, but you can tell from the tone of voice he is trying to tell you something as if it were an order. Your lips part slightly from the intensity radiating from your lover, who doesn’t move a muscle. “You’ll be free soon.”
.✫*゚・゚。.★.*。・゚✫*.
Dinner ends. Eren helps clean up the dishes for you and goes to get water from your well so you can clean easier. You already know from the way his thumb brushed against your own when you took the bowls that you’ll likely be bent over the sink in a few minutes, which you don’t mind, but you wonder if he’ll be willing to be softer than usual as an apology for what he’d said earlier.
He’d meant to scare you. You’re intelligent enough to figure that out. Even though you don’t scare easy, and you didn’t even give an extreme reaction, the look in Eren’s eyes had made your heart drop to your stomach. Sometimes you forget that Eren sees everything. Then he says something like that to remind you in the most memorable way.
The wooden door opens and closes behind you. Boots scuff the ground for a few seconds, drawing closer and closer as something in you sparks with anticipation, as it always does. A pail of water hits the surface beside you, partially sloshing over the sides, shining silver in the moonlight from the tall window in front of you. Finally, ultra hot hands slide around your waist and push gently but tightly against where your ribs diverge.
A jaw leans down on your right shoulder, chin poking against your collarbone. Locks of hair brush against your own, just as the hand on the left runs across your side to finally put a small band in your pocket.
“I did miss you,” Eren’s low voice seemingly growls, his chest rumbling softly against your back.
“I was thinking about you,” you admit with monotone, knowing your lover can read through it like as easily as a knife slices through skin.
“I hope I didn’t worry you,” he says, though you can also read through his own tone. He probably didn’t care about worrying you. He definitely doesn’t still.
“You didn’t.”
You place a both bowls in the sink, running your fingers over the dirty spoons. Eren’s orbs follow your movement. You can feel his chin change positions ever so slightly in the coming seconds.
“Can you pass me the rag?” you ask, eyes focused on a piece of food on the spoon that doesn’t even exist.
In response, Eren doesn’t pass you anything. Only his right hand gives you any kind of acknowledgement, passing from on your ribs to down lower. His fingertips skin over the erogenous zone under the waistband of your undergarments.
“I worried about you,” Eren murmurs boldly. The hot fingertips pass under the cloth finally, pricks of stubble on his jaw scratching your neck and shoulder as he shifts. “I wanted you to be okay.” His left hand raises to grasp the breast above it. Slowly at first, then firmly, like a warning. Everything is a warning with him.
Your head lulls back uncontrollably. The back of your hair matts up as it rolls against his own shoulder.
“I said you worried me,” your partner grumbles. “Did you hear me?”
“No,” you lie lowly, refusing to let your voice shake despite the shiver in your throat.
“Mm,” Eren hums in condescending understanding. A force presses against your core, which has turned burning hot and ice cold at the same time. The force pulls away, a string of something smooth and slimy following it that makes a sound draw from your lips. It’s high pitched, weak, and unstoppable. You’d be embarrassed if you weren’t so associated with Eren.
His hand gives your breast a firm squeeze, soreness blossoming from the center. Your back arches quickly and returns lax against him, though now something pokes against your bottom that makes your eyes pop open with a new alertness. Eren’s hand gives you no time again. From your chest, it flies to your throat, holding it back with soft strictness as the other finally dips into the hot pool between your hips.
“I worried about you.”
A strangled groan releases from between your lips again, this time fully carried up through the air. To Eren, it must sound like nothing more than music, or background noise.
Thick cylinders pump inside you to the knuckle. They feel better than your own. They always have.
It feels good. Full. Tight and fast and like the inside of you is quivering under the weight of something that you can’t see or hear. Eren is like a blanket supporting you from falling over, keeping you upright with his grip and his fingers buried inside of you. Prodding every angle, every spot. Not necessarily romantically, but still lovingly. He has always had this goal during intimacy. Nothing matters but communicating to you just how close he wants to be.
“Eren,” you choke, a dribble of spit sliding from the corner of your lips.
“Again,” he hisses in response. His fingers hit a tight spot, making every muscle in your body clench at the same time.
You don’t say another word, your mouth hanging partially open as you focus on everything around you. And it’s all Eren Jaeger. His smell, his growls, his voice, his breathing, his chest, his muscles, his hair, his anger, his bitterness, his intelligence, his determination. It’s overwhelming. It reminds you of getting swept in one of those waves at the ocean he described to you. He’s yours. No- more likely, you’re his. End of story.
“I said again.”
“Eren,” you moan.
His head nuzzles into your neck comfortingly, his fingers pushing faster and harder. You can feel how warm you are, never mind how slick. And the way your own body holds around his digits every time he pulls away is enough to make you all the more warm and slick.
But then...
What is he doing?
He had said “you’ll be free soon”. And yet, here he is, gripping you tightly as he forces you into the corner of submitting. And yes, it is hot. It arouses you as it always has. But something about it makes your stomach turn into a knot of unpleasantness, in contrast to the other one of liquid pleasure.
“Eren,” you strain, squirming against him.
Eren speeds up again. A grunt falls from his own mouth from his own power, and you know he’s getting off almost as much as you are. It doesn’t stop feeling good. Feeling euphoric.
It’s getting rougher. Rougher and harder and faster, more intense.
“Eren.”
Another gruff moan from him.
“Eren! Stop! Stop!”
Eren’s palm softens away at once. It lifts away, his eyes opening and his hand stilling inside of you. He watches you shake as you gaze up to the ceiling, wide eyed. Your thighs sputter, entire body twitching. You didn’t cum.
His eyes trail over you. You’ve worked up a steady sweat glistening and glowing, shivering and shaking and quaking because of him in the best way. You’re his. His partner, his friend, his ally he knows for a fact he can rely on.
“C-can we... Eren...”
.✫*゚・゚。.★.*。・゚✫*.
Drips of water dribbling down Eren’s temple. One of your hands are threaded in his brunette locks, holding them back so you can have an uninterrupted view. The other hand is dabbing cloth against his forehead and hairline, bathing him softly.
He’d gone a while without bathing again. You could tell. Eren’s eyes are glued to yours, deep teal memorizing all the flecks in your own as if he hadn’t a million times over.
Eren loves you. Dearly. He’d travel all seven hours and forty five minutes just to tell you that. He doesn’t know what made you stop earlier. He doesn’t ask. But he’s not mad. Overall, Eren understands that it doesn’t matter what you asked to stop for. You give the word, he obeys. Not because he has to, but because he loves you.
Still, he knows something is wrong. You don’t show it. You’re steady, calm, mature, apathetic as always. But in the pit of Eren’s stomach, something brews. A warm, strange feeling of intuition and omniscience.
“You look very pretty today,” Eren ventures, wondering only of your response. “Did I tell you that?”
Your eyes squint. “Thank you,” you reply back.
The cloth continues to rub against his skin, cleaning something that probably doesn’t even exist. Dirt, maybe. Eren’s stopped taking care of his skin in the past few years.
“You’re welcome.”
Your eyes squint again. This time, they gloss over with sharp wetness like glass. The eyebrows crease like a break, your bottom lip trembling as you suck it between your teeth.
He doesn’t know what he was expecting. But your lover wasn’t expecting this.
Eren hates when you cry. He can remember the first time he’d seen it, but not the most recent. You didn’t cry often- you were strong. Crying over something as useless and flimsy as emotions didn’t seem worth it. So what was this for? What were you about to make Eren break down inside over?
Your hand falls limply from his forehead. Shoulders hunch over in defeat, staring down at the floor as your hair covers over your face. And then the sniffles come, choked out coughs like sobs.
Eren can see the lightest of bruises he’d left on you from earlier, but you’d never had a problem with it before. No, it was something else. But what?
Silent, your teeth grit together as you wince, tears streaming down your face inexplicably.
“Earlier w-when you,” you gulp, snot beginning to form, “when you- I did worry a-about you. I- I don’t know why I didn’t...”
You stumble forward. Eren stands from your bath tub to catch you as you slump against him tiredly.
“I hate it when you go.”
Eren switches positions with you, pushing you down to sit on the edge of the tub. He takes the wet rag from your hand and holds your shoulder back so he can have a good look at you. Then the cloth dabs against your own forehead, just as you had done to him.
“I hate it here,” you sigh, a single tear drop blurring your vision as it falls finally.
Your lover moves the cloth from your head to your cheeks, smearing the wetness into your skin and away. They moisten and dry, your eyes red and shiny. Eren tilts your head up under your jaw, creasing his brows and using the towel to clean closer to your eyes.
“If it helps,” he says, looking straight into your eyes, “you’re crying, but I still think you look pretty.”
You’d be lying if you said that didn’t help even a little, because you love him.
A soft smile creeps to your lips, your hands dropping in between your thighs.

✨kay’s ultimate pedro ranking✨
ok ok ok ok @mandosmistress did this a while back (like a few days lmao what is time) and tagged me and I HAVE BEEN T H I N K I N G let me tell you.
so without further ado, under the cut is my (not so definitive) pedro pascal character ranking…..! (based mainly on attraction/how much I enjoy writing them)
FRANKIE MORALES. frankie. frankie frankie frankie. my man. sunshine of my life (haha see what I did there). there is just something about this character that really crawled into my chest, wrapped himself around my heart and said ”hi I live here now” and I’m cool with it. handsome in that rugged way, a little bit damaged, and good with his hands? done. hook, line, and sinker.
DIN DJARIN. oh the sweet soft-spoken tin can space man. in all honesty, him and Frankie fight for the top spot on a daily basis and sometimes the beskar-covered bounty hunter wins, and he truly was my pedro gateway drug so he’s gotta be high on my list.
JAVIER PEÑA. ohhhhhh mama I love me some Javi. (do I mainly blame my gargantuan crush on @the-ginger-hedge-witch and her brilliant Crush series YES AS A MATTER OF FACT I DO) something about those tight fuckin’ jeans and the stache and the aviators like yep honey take me I’m yours
JAVIER GUTIERREZ. sunshine baby angel too good for this world I just wanna give him a little kiss and carry him around in my pocket and make sure no harm every comes to him (no I haven’t written anything for him yet but I been thinkin’ thots okay)
DIETER BRAVO. ✨the trash man✨ another one I just wanna carry around in my pocket, also the hair does things for me (same with Javi G) like just let me run my fingers through it and I’ll die a happy gal. questionable life choices maybe, but we’ve all been there, right?
OBERYN MARTELL. oh my HEART. *cue adele* we could have had it AAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL. I would say spoilers but it was legitimately 8 years ago but he was so CLOSE and then so SQUISHED. tbh oberyn is the most intimidating to me to even think of writing but maybe someday….
MARCUS PIKE. I do really like Marcus. cheesy as hell? check. bit overboard sometimes? double check. BUT I really like the history of the character we got in limited scenes AND I have a fic idea for him I’ve been sitting on FOREVER and I def have to use it soon!
PERO TOVAR. okay I love me a grungy fantasy man okay like that’s my bread and butter. add in the grouchiness and the obvious way to his heart through his stomach? it’s go time, baby, I got plans for him too!
JACK DANIELS. oh darlin’, he hits the middle of my list for the sole reason that pedro and that whip awoken something in me that hasn’t shut up since I watched that movie and if you don’t think I’ve watched that clip where he pushes his jacket back and it’s a crystal-clear shot of his ass you are WRONG
EZRA PROSPECT. fits the grungy, violent thing pedro seems to work with half the time, and honestly, the linguistics of this man make my head spin (the main reason I haven’t written much for him because it’s a looooot of effort to try and think up dialogue for him!!!) BUT I do love that little moon-touched spot and the scar and the smile and just ugh yum
THE THIEF. full disclosure: I haven’t read a lot of fics about the thief (if anyone has recs let me at ‘em) buuuuuut I really like the whole vibe he has and the outfit? spectacular.
MARCUS MORENO. the glasses definitely do it for me but idk something about him I just…meh. have definitely read some fab fics about daddy moreno (maybe I’ll revisit him at some point). still hot, still delicious, just not my number one fav.
MAX PHILLIPS. maybe not the biggest asshole pedro’s played but definitely up there? I sat through the movie just for him, honestly the scene of him on the couch made it worth it and the smarminess is something else, but idk if I could ever write him! (kudos to all that do!)
DAVE YORK. ok ok ok ok OKAYYYYYYY. listen. he’s the baddie (and like a really bad baddie) so I gotta put him low on my list as far as attraction goes (plus I have mixed emotions about P without facial hair but I digress…) BUT I do have ideas. they are on the horizon. keep your eyes OPEN.
MAX LORD. I haven’t even watched wonder woman 1984 and I know he needs to be down here. maybe I’ll get some form of intoxicated this weekend and power through it, just for shits and giggles!
well KUDOS if you made it this far, this was actually so fun to do!
tagging a few pals just because, no pressure 😇
@prolix-yuy @pedropascalsx @mandoblowmybackout @mindidjarin @allfoolsinluv @iamskyereads and obvi anyone else who wants to play!!!

don’t blame me [emily prentiss]
emily prentiss x fem reader
requested:i have a emily prentiss request! reader and emily have been fighting and something happens to the both of them and they make up at the end
“Emily please!” you placed your head in your hands as you were having yet another argument in your shared apartment.
You took a deep breath as she started yelling again, “What Y/N?! Are you cheating on me with Spencer?”
“What?” you ask, giving her an incredulous look.
“You two have been awfully close lately.” she points out.
Spencer has always been your best friend. Ever since you joined the BAU together and being the youngest out of the pack. The two of you grew an instant bond despite all of his annoying knowledge.
“We’ve always been close Em! Do you really not trust me that much?” you ask, looking up at her.
She just stood there unsure of what to say. But the silence said it all, she didn’t trust you.
“We’ve been dating for almost a year now and you don’t trust me. Got it.” you whisper, getting up to pack an overnight bag.
Emily didn’t say anything. She just stood there and watched. Tears stinging her eyes.
“I’ll see you tomorrow at work. I’ll be at JJ’s.” you whisper, leaving the apartment.
Emily didn’t know what to say. She was running thoughts through her mind. She didn’t know what was wrong with her. This was the longest relationship she’s ever been in (Doyle does not count).
I guess she was scared. She didn’t want to ruin it so she was self-exploding the relationship herself. Making Y/N hate her until she eventually runs off so she doesn’t have to deal with the pain of Y/N breaking up with her on her own.
You found yourself at JJ and Will’s house, knocking on their front door.
JJ opened the door confused, but with a small smile on her face, “Y/N, what are you doing here? Is everything okay?”
“Emily and I got into another fight. She thinks I’m cheating on her with Spence.” you say, “Can I stay here tonight?”
“Of course. Come in, we can talk more about it here.” she whispers.
Will comes down the stairs, “Hey Y/N, it’s nice to see you again...”
He continued talking, but you couldn’t quite understand what he was saying. So you stuck with the pleasantries, “It’s good to see you too.”
JJ poured the two of you a glass of wine as you curled up onto the couch. Henry came running into your lap when he saw you on the way to say goodnight to his mom.
“Hey bud!” you say ruffling his blonde hair.
“Hi.” he whispers meekly as you gave him a squeeze.
You smile at the boy as he hugs his mom goodnight.
You start to explain everything to her from the past week of the two of you just going at each other’s throats. And even though you were a part of the Behavioral Analysis Unit, you had a hard time reading Emily.
Or anyone who wasn’t a killer/kidnapper/arsonist.
“Y/N, remember that this is her first actual long-term relationship?” JJ says giving her a piece of the puzzle and you nod not understanding her point, “And you know that her relationships haven’t quite worked out in the past?”
“Mhm, I don’t see your point.” you say, completely clueless.
“You do work the BAU correct?” JJ asks laughing.
You roll your eyes softly, “Duh.”
“I think you should talk to her. Just ask her what’s going on and go from there.” she suggests and you nod, “Get some rest, we don’t know when Hotch is gonna call.”
You didn’t understand what JJ was trying to get at. Emily was the best thing that ever happened to you and you would never break her heart in anyway. But the past few days she’s been breaking your heart.
Something she always promised she wouldn’t do.
As JJ expected not even three hours into your sleep, you were woken up by a phone call from Hotch talking about some unsub in Newport, Rhode Island.
The two of you slowly got ready as the lack of sleep the two of you were experiencing was apparent. JJ drove you two to the BAU headquarters. As you exited the elevator Penelope held a drink carrier in her hand full of hot coffee.
“Thank you.” you whisper to Penelope, shooting her a grateful smile and patting her back.
As you went into the briefing room, Emily was already sitting there next to Derek. Spencer was also sitting there across from Em with a small smile on his face.
You walked around the table greeting everyone. You ruffled Spence’s shaggy hair, and fist bumped Derek. Purposefully, avoiding Emily. You didn’t want to talk to her if she doesn’t even trust you. You took the spot next to JJ as you waited for Hotch to come in to give the background.
“Hello everyone, sorry about the lack of sleep tonight, but this is the fifth death this week.” Hotch says stifling his own yawn, “We have Peter Taylor, age 34, single with no kids. Blunt force trauma to the head before being shot in the heart.”
Hotch goes over the rest of the victims going all the way to the very beginning. All of them had the same MO’s: blunt force trauma and being shot in the heart. They were also men around the same age.
He was about to continue on as everyone pitched ideas for what kind of killer this unsub may be, but Hotch got a call. He stepped out of the room and as we waited, Spence kicked your leg softly from under the table.
Sliding you a note from his notebook: Are you and Em okay?
You quickly wrote down a response: Honestly, no.
That’s all you put. He read it trying to study, both you and her. Emily noticed the little exchange of notes that was passed. It was enough to make her feel insecure about her own state. Passing notes like they were back in elementary school.
But maybe this was for the best, Emily thought.
“Alright guys, we gotta go, there was another body found.” Hotch says, “Wheels up, like now.”
“His killing time is shortening which means he’s gonna go out of control.” Derek says and we all look at each other with determination in our eyes.
All of you headed onto the plane in a flash. Every time you were on the plane you took the spot next to Emily. It was a little thing the two of you did, basking in the comfort and the safety of each other before going out into the dangerous field.
Sort of like a good luck charm.
But this time was different. Emily waited for you expectedly to take the seat next to her, but you didn’t. You took a seat by yourself, away from the rest of the group. The entire team eyed each other, all of them concerned at the couple’s behavior recently.
You put your headphones drowning out the rest of the noise, trying to get much sleep as possible.
When you arrived in Newport, the air was cool as the costal breeze hit your hair. The smell of the salty sea filling your nostrils. You loved being along the coast, it was one of your favorite things.
It brought you calmness and peace.
You and the rest of the team got to work as you reached the police station. Hotch paired the team off as per usual, pairing you and Em to go check out the most recent body.
The two of you walked together in silence, neither of you knew what to say. It wasn’t the comfortable silence the two of you have while lying in bed watching whatever was on the TV. It was an awkward silence of you at your breaking point in the relationship, not understanding what’s wrong.
“Blunt force to the head, shot to the heart. This is an act of our guy.” Emily says softly, the first time that you were speaking since last night.
You looked down at the body and noticed a little paper sticking out of his pocket. Picking it up with your glove, you opened it as it read three simple words.
Don’t Blame Me
“Don’t blame me?” you say, more of a rhetorical question than anyone else.
“What?” she asks.
You hand her the note, “It says don’t blame me.” I whisper.
The handwriting didn’t look a man’s handwriting. It was neat and polished. Men’s handwriting are usually messy and sometimes illegible.
You start to walk away from the scene finished with the crime scene, leaving her behind. When Em notices you’re gone she immediately starts running after you.
“Y/N!” she yells, finally catching up to you and spinning you to face her, “What’s the matter with you?” she asks.
You scoff in response, “Tell me why.”
“Why what?!” she asks, yelling, frustrated with how cold you’re being to her.
“Why don’t you trust me?”
“Y/N I-” she paused struggling for what else to say, but nothing was coming out.
She was left speechless, just like she was when you left the night before.
You nod, “Never mind. Come talk to me when you’re ready.” you whisper, disappointedly.
As the day went on you learned more and more about the unsub. The team gathered more clues and realized that all of the victims were connected to one women.
Hayley Nolan, a bartender at the famous bar in town. She was 26 and very popular with the guys and gals around town.
Whoever this unsub was targeted all of the men who flirted with her. She wasn’t married or had any kids. But she was in a relationship with a one Matthew Grimes.
We interrogated Matthew, but checked all of his alibi’s that he was at work every night of the attacks.
You and the team were in Hayley’s home, making sure to keep a cop with her at all times. When you took a look around the house as you watched the time go by, you realized that Matthew still wasn’t back yet.
“Hayley? Where did Matthew say he was going?” you ask as you entered the living room again.
She shook her head trying to remember, “He said he was going to the gym, but that was a couple hours ago.”
All of you shared nervous glances as you realized that he was probably in danger right now. Reid and JJ come bursting into the room, “We found out who the unsub is.”
“Hayley, does the name Taylor Hunt ring a bell?” Reid asks as he sits down on one of the chairs in the living area.
Hayley nods softly, “Yeah. She’s one of the regulars at the bars.”
“Does she ever seem protective when someone tries to flirt with you?” you ask.
“Yeah, all the time. I always thank her for it by giving her free drink. Why?” and then it all starts piecing together for her, “Oh my gosh. You don’t think she-”
JJ squeezes her hand softly, “You see Taylor is living in her own little fantasy world. Making her believe that you’re flirting with her and want to be with her. When in reality you’re just being nice. So she kills off anyone who she thinks is a threat.”
“We need to find Matthew now.” Derek says sternly.
You and him run out of the house and into one of the vans. Driving your way as quickly as possible to the gym.
Your phone started to ring and you answered it, your eyes scanning the road you were driving on, “Police called and said they’re inside the gym. Hostage situation. Me and Prentiss are right behind you.” Hotch says.
Making your way into the gym, the two of you noticed that you Hotch and Emily were already in there. Both of them had their guns away so both of you put your guns away.
When Taylor saw us come into the room, she pointed her gun towards us. But Emily was quick to intervene.
“Hey, it’s okay. They won’t hurt you. I know how you feel.” Emily says softly, trying to get through to her.
“You do?” Taylor asks.
Emily nods and you were intrigued at where she was going with this, “I know how it feels to love someone so much you’re scared everyday that you’re gonna lose them. Everyone is so intrigued by them and they’re so beautiful and funny that you can’t help but feel that she’ll choose someone else.”
Your tilt your head to the side as Emily makes a quick side glance to you.
“But the difference is that you’re stronger than me. You’re trying to protect what you have with Hayley. I tend to just cause useless fights because I’m scared that they’ll break my heart. So instead of being surprised by the heartbreak, I explode our relationship.” Emily adds on.
And everything finally starts clicking. Everything JJ was trying to say, all of it.
“Now you don’t want to do that so if you really love Hayley, I need you to put the gun down. And let Matthew go.” she whispers.
Taylor lets out a quiet sob before putting down the gun and letting Matthew go. Em goes over to her and puts her hand behind her back, handcuffing her. Hotch takes her to the cop car while Morgan tends to Matthew’s wounds.
You ran over to your girlfriend embracing her in a huge hug. She holds you close and tight, like she’s afraid that you might walk away again.
Taking your hand you place it underneath her chin to get her to look at you, “I love you. And I am never gonna break your heart. I promise.”

nonono I need more ANGST part 3 for out of his grasp/out of their grasp were reader comes back as a ghost like Ghostbur but remembers bad memories so she doesn’t remember Dream or George
Out of Their Grasp
{THIS IS THE NEW UPDATED VERSION BECAUSE APARENTLY THE FIRST VERSION WASN”T ANGSTY ENOUGH}
{real talk though I thought maybe I could change this to be more angsty cause I didn’t think the ghost thing would work}
requested by this anon: “hey hey I was wondering if you could do dream x George x reader fantasy/royal au (bc I just read "for his hand" and I love it so much!!) where reader and dream go to battle but only dream returns from it. and he has to tell George that reader died. the more angst the better😝💅”
and also this one: “will there be a part 2 of For His Hand? It’s so good, i loved it!”
{Technically you don’t have to read part one but I would recommend it because this one takes place in the same universe}
Dream x George x reader
trigger warnings: swearing, yelling, major character death, aGnSt
premise: war breaks out near the borders of the SMP, you and Dream are sent ahead of the royal party to the front lines in an attempt to stop any further battles until a peace can be reached when disaster strikes, leaving your partners to deal with the repercussions.
{dude I’m like manically laughing right now}
(y/n/n)- your nickname
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“It was just skirmishes, here and there for the last few weeks,” Sam gestured to a few spots near the northern boarder on the map spread out across the table, before pointing to another in the center of the rest, “But then, yesterday there was a huge attack on the villages, and our military bases in this valley.”
You glanced around the room, from person to person, gauging there reactions.
George had visibly stiffened in his seat, and behind him Dream seemed equal tense.
“Have we taken any measures to fight back?” Sapnap asked impatiently.
“How bad are the damages?” George asked, ignoring him.
Eret looked down at the report they’d been given, “There seems to have been more pillaging than raiding, they were breaking into peoples house, causing general destruction and looting, when our forces attempted to stop them they began to fight. All in all 30 of ours were killed and there was an estimated 10,000 in damages.”
George frowned, as Niki spoke up, “We should pay the people reparation's and help them with any reconstruction that needs to be done.”
Many people nodded, but next to you Sapnap was still unhappy, “Are we doing anything about the invaders? We cannot just sit here and allow them to attack the people!”
“Pushing, pushing.” You muttered.
The king looked at him for a long moment, before turning to Callahan, the scribe, “Attempt to negotiate a peace. I don’t want anymore bloodshed to curse this land.”
The man beside you groaned, and you were quick to elbow him in the side and Sam ended the meeting and everyone began to file out of the room, hissing, “I don’t know how they do things where you’re from but that is no way to behave in an advisory meeting. Next time you pull that shit you won’t be allowed back to one.”
-You had taken the new coming warrior on as a sort of apprentice after he’d first arrived at the palace, and it was clear the change of pace wasn’t something he was ready for-
“They can’t just stand by! The King is a fool if he thinks a peace can be reached like this!”
You glared at him. “The King is no fool.”
“You only say that out of obligation.” Sapnap fired back.
You recoiled, burned, before crossing your arms and starting out of the room, “You may be a trained mercenary but you haven’t the faintest idea as to how to hold yourself among this crowd. It will be the death of you.”
He followed you back toward your office, listening as you continued, “King George is a good and just man, to say that he is a fool is to say the sun is square. He has wiped this kingdom clean of many years of bloodshed.
“The Kings advisors, and cabinet are kind, respectable people, you must remember to hold your tongue unless spoken too, and never say anything brash as you have done now, lest you make a greater fool of yourself.”
He huffed, “If I must stay silent in those meetings than how can I get my point across? Sending a messege to the enemy through force may be the only way!”
“Now you sound like Tommy, just as foolhardy and headstrong as the child,” You pushed the door to your office open, “I’m sure that Technoblade agrees with you, though he knows better than to speak freely.”
“If he agrees with me than perhaps it’s the right move.”
You turned to look at him quizzically, finally saying, “A wise king does not seek out war, no matter what his knights advise.”
Sapnap turned, “Then the lot of them are fools.”
“I have told you once to never disrespect the king, I suggest you don’t do it again. This land has seen it’s share of unjust rulers, be thankful you have not come here under worse authority.”
~~ That night, when the palace grew quiet, and the sky dark, you found yourself back in Dream’s quarters, an overtired, overstressed George having wedged himself between you two and refusing to move.
You sighed as Dream ran a hand through your sleeping partners hair, “He’s anxious.”
“I mean, can you blame him? War may be on the horizon.” Dream murmured.
“I meant even now- in the time of sleep. I think Sapnap is just adding fuel to the fire.”
Dream sighed, “If he has another outburst like that-”
“He’ll be cast out,” You nodded, “I know. He just needs to be willing to learn the way things go around here. In time he will learn.”
Your boyfriend chuckled to himself, “Fucking hotshot.”
“I think you’d like him, if you were able to spend more time with him.” You smiled.
“Well someone had to go snatch him up as an apprentice!”
“Well it was him or Ranboo, and Ranboo is far too- forgetful, for this sort of thing. I’d’ve had Tubbo but he and Tommy are a package set an you took ‘em.”
“What about Purpled?”
You rolled your eyes, “He started an apprenticeship with Punz ages ago.”
“SHHhhhhhhh, ‘m tryin’ to sleep.” George muttered, burying his face in your shoulder.
In the darkness of the chamber you could barley make out Dream’s eyes sparkling as he took your hand, “Course love, course.”
~~
As the weeks continued the damages on the northern boarder only seemed to grow, the new invaders claiming three of the villages there own.
There was yet another large attack on the town that had been damaged the first time, this time a direct threat left etched on the walls, ‘You have made my people suffer, and now yours shall feel the same’
“Militia, both local and our own soldiers have taken it upon themselves to fight back, almost a hundred lived lost to each side.” The silence in the room grew deafening as Sam finished reading his report, not even Sapnap daring to speak.
“Your Majesty?” Bad hazarded, “What is our next course of action?”
George frowned, glancing around the room, “Peace is still the priority. Maybe- maybe we call a ceasefire, I could meet with there ruler-”
“No,” Dream interrupted, drawing all eyes to him, “It would be too dangerous. How do we know they can be trusted to lay down there arms?”
George shot him a look, “How do we know that we haven’t done anything to provoke them? Whatever we have done wrong we need to fix it. If we can work something out then people will be spared on both sides.”
“Shall we arrange for a ceasefire?” Eret asked.
The King nodded as Wilbur spoke up, “We could set up a meeting place, on neutral ground, possibly similar to the holy lands, so there would be no worry of a security breech.”
Dream seemed to relax at this, and then eyes were turned to you and Sapnap, representing the royal guard, “We can, but even so we should stay vigilant, perhaps send a group ahead with the runners to see too it.” You said, noting the gratitude on Dream’s face, as well as the slight annoyance on George’s.
“Well I see no one better to attend to the King’s safety than you,” Bad said, “You shall go with the party, and Technoblade with you, Sapnap can remain here to take over your day to day duties.”
The man in question quietly shot you a pleading look, at which you sighed, “With all do respect I think Sapnap could be better severing to the crown if he joined the running party.”
Bad glanced around to the others, looking for any objections before shrugging, “We can find someone else to do the work. So that’ll be you, Technoblade, Sapnap, and we can send the usual scouting party, and Sam shall go with again.”
~~
You sighed, tracing an absent pattern on George’s side, listening to Dream’s ramble about how dangerous the idea that had been decided on at the meeting was.
“Finding peace is the priority, you can’t can’t change that.” George mumbled.
“That doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous!” Dream protested.
“It’ll be fine, We’ll have a perimeter set up with guards and everything. I’ll make sure none of them can even get near him with such intent.” You yawned.
The blonde huffed, “That just makes me more worried.”
“Don’t you trust me?” Your hand blindly sought his, “I’m going to do everything in my power to keep the ceasefire from being broken.”
“I know.” Was the only quiet response you received.
The next morning found you suiting up and heading out to the stables to tack up your horse. Techno was already down there, idly chatting with Phil as he readied Carl for the journey, and out in the courtyard you could see Sapnap talking to two men.
“Good morning, (y/n)!” Phil chirped, waving your direction.
“Morning Phil.” You moved down the row, reaching out and letting Beckerson nuzzle into your palm.
After getting your horse cared for and saddled, the rest of the party had headed out of the stables as your partners entered.
George took your hand, “Don’t start any more trouble.”
“Sounds like your talking to Dream not me.” You chuckled.
“Hey!” Dream protested.
“I’m not wrong!” You teased.
George rolled his eyes, quickly pulling you in for a kiss, “Make things good for me to be out there.”
“Stay out of trouble.” Dream advised, pulling you away from George to kiss you himself.
“You underestimate me.” You smirked, grabbing Bekerson’s reigns.
Dream rolled his eyes as you started to lead the horse out of the stable, calling, “And stay safe!”
“I’ll see you in five days!” You chuckled, heading out of the stables and quickly mounting your horse, kicking at his sides to catch up with the others.
~~ The last few days had been spent anxiously waiting, and now the journey to the norther board was coming to a close.
Dream rode alongside the carriage, eyes following the strange trail of smoke on the horizon; something was wrong, he could feel it.
The quiet, almost calm of the morning was slowly being cut through by a growing noise, and then finally shattered as one of the runners sent ahead to signal their arrival came crashing through the trees looking panicked.
“What’s going on?” Punz asked.
“They attacked! They broke the ceasefire!”
Dream’s brain surged with panic as he turned to where George and his advisors were starting to climb out of the carriage asking why they had stopped, “Turn around! It isn’t safe here! Go! Punz! Tommy! Ponk! Get them out of here!”
Before he could even stop to see if they were following his orders he was rushing forward down the road, urging Spirit to go faster as the road widened into the village.
Dream was met with nothing but chaos, the royal insignia’s on the tents set up in the field were aflame, and the clashing of swords filled his ears as the royal army and the few commoners who could fought back against the pillaging people.
“About time you showed up!” Sapnap yelled from halfway across the field, “We could use some fucking help!”
“No shit!” Dream yelled back, dismounting and unsheathing his sword.
Almost immediately another person came barley towards him, throwing him into combat.
He cut his way across the field, taking down people here and there, still searching the carnage for you.
Eventually he made it to where Sapnap had just disarmed and knocked out another opponent, “Where are they?”
His eyes danced around the wreckage, “Could be anywhere, saw ‘em trying to get the townspeople out of the way.”
Dream cursed, running off the direction of the village, calling you name.
The fighting continued, the addition of the extra royal guardsmen helping turn the tide of the battle, though Dream still couldn’t locate you on the battle field.
The invaders, or what was left of there battalion began to retreat, but still Dream could find no sign of you, the now all too quiet valley erupted into noise as another skirmish broke out.
Taking off at a sprint he made it up the hill to find you locked in combat with another warrior.
You panted, throwing up you shield to block another strike from his axe before shoving forward and swing your sword at his spear wielding hand.
He wasn’t excepting this, and the spear clatter out of his hand, the shock on his face giving you enough momentum to keep pushing forward, throwing attack after attack at the man as he edged backward.
You had just managed to shove him to the ground when a cry broke your attention.
“(Y/N)!!”
You turned to see Dream, smiling, words starting to form on your lips as a spear suddenly drove through your chest.
“NO!!!!!” Dream shrieked, charging forward and quickly slashing at the mans throat before turning to where you had fallen in the grass.
“T-that one was your fault.” You mumbled as he did his best to pull your shaking body into his arms, “You-ou had t-to go distract-ing me.”
“I know,” tears flooded his eyes, “It’s gonna be okay, I’m gonna get help.”
You did your best to smile through your fear, “What would G-George say if he saw you here cuddling m- m- me without him? Huh?”
“(Y/n)....”
“Bad time for a joke I guess,” you shaky voice was disrupted by a painful cough wracking your body, “Never real-really planned on being r-r-ran through with a spear this morning.”
“It’s gonna be okay! It’s- it’s gonna be okay!” Dream desperately pushed your hair out of your face, head whipping around to where the royal soldiers were beginning to regroup, “WE- I need a medic! Please! We need a medic!”
It was the first time you’d ever heard him sound so distraught, gently you reached up to his face, “Dream- Clay, leave it alone, they won’t be able to- to do anythi-ng.”
You coughed again as he turned back to you, “Don’t say that! Don’t say that!”
“It’s just my time d-d-darling,” You gasped at the pain brought by him trying to pull you closer, “You- you gotta let go.”
“NO! You’re not gonna die! You’re not gonna leave! I won’t let you!”
“I d- don’t have your permission to d-die?” The spots floating in your vision began to grow larger, blocking out spot of his face, and the sky.
“No! You don’t! You’re not leaving! I’m not letting you!” He said desperately.
“You’ve- g-got too...”
He glared down through the valley, barking out, “I said I need a medic! Someone! Please! They need help!”
There were people hurrying up the hill now, not that you could see, as Dream continued to yell.
The spots began to grow even bigger, merging together until darkness fully overtook you and you slipped from there grasp, “I’m sorry...”
Dream tore his gaze from the approaching medical team, looking down at your now limp body, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no-”
“You can’t leave! You- your not allowed to leave us! You- you can’t- I- I didn’t give you permission to die!”
He blubbered, still trying to pull you closer to him, as if he held you tighter you wouldn’t have slipped away.
“You can’t go! I didn’t say you could go! You can’t leave! You can’t.....”
Then people were pulling you away from him, and Sapnap was pulling him up, and leading him away.
~~
“Your highness, news of the attack on the boarder has returned.”
George stopped his anxious pacing a Wilbur led in a scarily calm Technoblade and a visibly shaking Dream into the room, Sapnap still with a firm grip on his shoulder.
“What happened? Where’s (y/n)?”
Dream started to shake more at the mention of your name, and Techno stepped forward, “(y/n)- died in combat two days ago.”
George stayed silent, so he continued, “They died a hero’s death defending our kingdom.”
The king waved them away, “Out, please.”
Wilbur nodded, and quickly Sapnap and Technoblade followed him out of the room, leaving Dream to slowly move toward George, pulling him into his arms, tears coming from both men.
“It was my fault. They were fighting- an- and I distracted them.”
“You- you what?” George croaked.
“I wasn’t thinking,” He said quietly, ducking his head as George pulled away, “Th- they died in my arms George!”
“Wh- what have you done?”
Dream looked at him in shock, “What do you mean?”
“Tell me what happened.” It was a command, said in a way Dream had never heard directed at him.
“I got there- there was fighting, when the fighting died down I still couldn’t find them- then I heard another fight- on the ridge, I got up there, and It seemed like they had won, I yelled there name- and-” He broke off, barley muffling a sob.
“You all but killed them yourself.” George muttered.
“I didn’t- th- I- George.” Dream grappled for words.
“You killed them.”
“I didn’t! George I know it’s my fault, but-”
The King just shook his head, turning and silently stalking out of the room.
~~
The castle seemed to stay in mourning for weeks, the kings council having to take over as the king stayed shut up in his chambers, refusing to talk to anyone.
The King’s Knight became more and more vocal during meetings, providing insight on how to get back at the enemy, amplifying Sapnap’s voice.
Then, as plans were being finalized, Dream was met by another figure as he sat in front of your grave.
“You think this will make up for what you’ve done?” Georges voice was horse, rough, as if he hadn’t spoken in days, though still laced with the same venom as when he’d found out.
Dream nodded, remaining quiet as he traced the hilt of his blade.
“Tomorrow then?”
Again Dream nodded, looking down at the copy of the note that had been sent to the enemy:
‘Holy water cannot stop me now, a thousand armies couldn’t keep me out. I don’t want your money, I don’t want your crown, see I’ve come to burn your kingdom down’

part 3 of Escape Your Destiny (Star Wars Wangxian AU) - on ao3 or tumblr part 1, part 2
-
He had been right to reject seclusion, Lan Wangji thought grimly. The sweet siren call of calm contemplation had nearly seduced him, the Dark Side seeking to eat away at him through other means now that anger and hatred had not done the work – he would have meditated himself into a stupor, becoming little more than a vacuum within the Force, a black hole of deathly intent.
More than that, though, he would have missed – this.
This disaster.
Wei Wuxian’s lips were pale from blood loss and hypothermia. Two of his limbs were at odd angles, probably broken, and Lan Wangji feared that there were more like them beneath the body that was bruised like a tender peach – he had been shielding as many people as he could, Lan Wangji knew, because he knew his Wei Ying too well to think that he might have done anything else.
Lan Wangji still didn’t know all the details, what exactly had been the disaster or why Wei Wuxian’s starfighter had crashed when he knew (with painful recollection) exactly how good a pilot Wei Wuxian was, but it hadn’t really mattered. Xue Yang had rushed into his chamber shouting excitedly - not exactly a rare event - saying something about an alarm and a disaster and a crash and can I have one of these gadgets? possibly two, maybe, I’m thinking two but haven’t really committed yet, it’s a big decision you know, and Lan Wangji’s blood had run cold when he realized what alarm he was referencing.
(A proper Jedi would never have tagged the object of his affections like an endangered bird or a criminal, injecting the tracking chip so deep into bone and muscle that standard scans wouldn’t pick it up and even in-depth scans might register it as a naturally occurring aberration. A proper Jedi would think of such intimate surveillance as cruelty, dehumanization, the caging of a free bird –
A proper Jedi wouldn’t have known what happened.
A proper Jedi wouldn’t have been able to rush over at once, wouldn’t have been in time to retrieve the body from the wreckage, finding it still warm and breathing but swiftly fading into the Force.
A proper Jedi would have been worthless.)
“That looks pretty bad, Master,” Xue Yang said, the comm crackling in his ear, and for once his tone was almost solemn. Perhaps the lessons on empathy were working, following the introduction of the rancor Xue Yang had named Chengmei with an expression so pained and vicious that Lan Wangji had refrained from asking. Perhaps it was that he’d grown so obsessed with his pair of bounty hunters and their foundling assistant, a little not-blind Bothan girl who liked to mouth off at him. Or perhaps it was just something as simple as knowing that if Wei Wuxian were lost, Lan Wangji would have no reason to –
No reason to anything at all.
“It is within the limits of what a bacta tank can heal,” Lan Wangji said, because it was, it would be, as long as he got him there in time.
Time that was swiftly running out.
Later, when Wei Wuxian was safe, Lan Wangji would return to that obscure little space station that had nearly caused his beloved’s death and he would find out what had happened properly. He would find out, and he would slaughter every one of them that caused it, torment them for days if he needed to in order to know who to blame – it didn’t matter if their contribution were accidental or deliberate, major or slight. He would offer up a sacrifice of their suffering to the Dark Side, as solemn as lighting a stick of incense at a temple –
When Wei Wuxian was safe.
Because he would be. He had to be.
Lan Wangji’s Wei Ying would not die so easily.
“Uh, Master? We don’t have a bacta tank.” Xue Yang was silent for a long moment. “I don’t know that many people around here that do. This is Outer Rim, remember? Not even the Hutts have one.”
“There is one in an outpost in the Quiberon sector,” Lan Wangji said. His attention was split between piloting their stolen ship as fast as he could and monitoring Wei Wuxian’s vital signs. He had transferred a certain amount of energy into him already, but the Dark Side was poisonous in overly large quantities, especially if one was not accustomed to it; a pure Jedi like Wei Wuxian couldn’t tolerate it, and Lan Wangji would not risk making him worse. “Inat Prime system. I’ve entered the coordinates. Set us up for a jump to lightspeed.”
“Inat Prime,” Xue Yang repeated, instead of doing as he was told. “Isn’t that – near Rothana?”
Lan Wangji said nothing.
“Rothana’s a manufacturing planet. Heavy engineering – warships. It used to belong to a subsidy of the Jin Engineering Corps, maybe still does, I don’t know, but either way manufacturing planets like that are where those sleemos keep their precious IP. And that means it’s going to be guarded and booby-trapped up your chubba. Who in their right mind would set up an outpost anywhere near there?”
Xue Yang was descending into Huttese slang again, Lan Wangji noted to himself, keeping his calm only by sheer force of willpower even as the Dark Side screamed in his mind that now was the time for rage and pain and blood. Given his hatred of the entire species, Xue Yang only did that when he was especially anxious and didn’t want to admit it.
Later, when he didn’t have more pressing things on his mind, Lan Wangji would have to inquire of his apprentice – which he had previously believed was as transparent to him as a sheet of transparisteel how he had learned about things like top-secret Jin Engineering manufacturing planets and IP and such things like that.
Later. Right now, he didn’t care.
“Prepare for jump,” he said again, the threat in his voice clear, and this time Xue Yang scrambled to obey, mumbling curses as he went. This was more typical of Xue Yang, but in this case it signified that he was concentrating, and that was all Lan Wangji cared about.
The rest of the trip passed as if in a daze, time counted in the beats of Wei Wuxian’s heart. Still strong, because Wei Wuxian was strong – this wouldn’t be the end of him. It wouldn’t.
Lan Wangji would make sure of that.
“We’re here,” Xue Yang said, breaking through Lan Wangji’s extreme focus on the rise and fall of Wei Wuxian’s chest. “I’m going to guess that our destination is the third planet? If you can call those other ones planets, they’re barely more than asteroids…”
Lan Wangji hummed, affirming.
“So, you going to tell me what this place is? Some super-secret Sith hideout?”
“No.”
“Smuggler’s base? Bounty hunter lair? Mandalorian terrorist cell? Clone factory?”
Lan Wangji rolled his eyes. Xue Yang had been reading too many historical action comics again.
“No, but seriously, Master! I deserve to know what we’re getting into, don’t I? What is this place?”
Lan Wangji was tempted to say you deserve nothing but what I give you, you filthy-tongue swamp-rat, but that was the Dark Side speaking, not him, and not only because the Gusu Lan Jedi order in which he had been raised did not permit cursing. It was simply anathema to him - he was Sith, but not a Lord, and he had encouraged this self-same insolence because it was better than having Xue Yang cringe before him like a kicked dog.
No matter how irritating it might be at times like this.
“It’s Jedi,” he said shortly, and to his amusement that actually shut Xue Yang up for a solid minute.
“I’m sorry, Master, I think I temporarily went insane due to Dark Force poisoning,” Xue Yang finally said. “But did you say that we’re planning on popping over and ‘borrowing’ the bacta tank of a bunch of Jedi?”
“Mm.”
“Master. Master. Please tell me you remember that we’re Sith, right? Sort of the sworn enemy of the Jedi? Arrest-on-sight orders? Any of this ringing any bells here? No? In short, have you lost your mind?”
Lan Wangji took Wei Wuxian’s pulse again. It was getting increasingly thready; he frowned.
“Take us in,” he ordered, and Xue Yang made a whining sound not unlike an especially agitated cat, but he obeyed, finding the planetary base and flashing them with a urgent medical attention required signal and transmitting the passcode Lan Wangji recited to him.
The base opened its doors in silent invitation.
Xue Yang took them in, apparently resigned to his fate and determined to pointedly suffer and judge him without saying a word.
This determination cracked the second they passed through the gates.
“Master!” he shrieked. “Master, Master! That’s the Qinghe Nie emblem!”
“It is,” Lan Wangji agreed. Foreseeing Xue Yang’s next question, he added, “It is here because this is an outpost of the Qinghe Nie Jedi order.”
Xue Yang sounded a bit like a rusty door when he hyperventilated, and even more so when he started laughing hysterically. How had he ever survived being a Sith before, if this was how he reacted to stress?
“Great, right, yes,” he said, nearly howling. “Sure, why not? Let’s go knock on the door of some Jedi and ask them for a bacta tank like we’re borrowing a cup of sugar, sure, okay, we can do that. Jedi are chumps, they’re all about mercy and sympathy and bantha fodder like that; we can con ‘em - it’ll be tricky, but it can be done when you’re in a pinch. I’m fine with that, up for it, it’s cool, all cool. You know who we can’t con? Qinghe Nie, that’s who. ‘Suppress evil no matter the cost’ Qinghe karking Nie.”
Lan Wangji ignored him, scooping Wei Wuxian into his arms and heading out into the saber hall.
Three grim-faced Jedi dressed in the immediately identifiable colors of the Qinghe Nie were waiting there, hands on their lightsabers and droids lingering in the corridors, but they did not attack. Instead, they led Lan Wangji, a nervous Xue Yang dogging his heels, to the medical bay, never uttering a single word.
The medical droids took Wei Wuxian from his arms – Lan Wangji forced himself to recall the Lan sect mantras on restraint and allowed them to do so without ripping out their wires for daring to touch him – but it wasn’t until Wei Wuxian was firmly encased in the bacta tank, the oxygen-rich liquid flowing into his lungs to heal him, the colors on all the screens all showing positive signs, that he was finally able to release the breath it felt that he’d been holding since he first saw the broken starfighter that encased Wei Wuxian’s broken body.
This was fine.
“Wangji,” a low voice said from behind him, and Lan Wangji’s back stiffened.
This was not fine.
The Qinghe Nie were a strange order of Jedi – almost heretical, really, by any traditional measure. The orthodox Jedi order, for the most part, valued calm and serenity and selflessness, prioritizing the logic of the mind over the yearning of the heart, preaching detachment from worldly concerns and attachments…
Qinghe Nie, in contrast, valued righteousness, and cultivated rage.
Halfway to Sith, Lan Wangji’s uncle had once remarked after a glass of something stronger than tea. He’d regretted it later, of course, and tried to walk it back, smooth over his uncharacteristic rudeness, but Lan Wangji still remembered.
The adherents of Qinghe Nie were of the view that for every virtue there was a fault – that the Jedi’s emotional remove would at times render them passive, that self-control could too quickly shade into indifference. They argued that it was the duty of the virtuous to be enraged by evil, intolerant of it, and that only through that anger would they be motivated to act to eradicate it.
Their philosophy often led to their deaths, whether through reckless action or through the corruption of rage into madness, but even their harshest critics had to concede that they were devastatingly effective.
Lan Wangji had always thought that there was something heartbreakingly sincere about all the Jedi that took the harsh vows of Qinghe Nie, each one willingly trading away long lives for the sake of righteousness, for the ability to make a change in the world, each one unable to tolerate life if it meant they weren’t striving to make things better. Perhaps they did not match the Jiang for creativity or the Lan for elegance, perhaps their techniques were more brutish and less refined, their diplomacy little short of appalling, but no other Jedi order could match them for sheer power.
Very few people wanted to be between a Qinghe Nie Jedi and their target, and still less if they had allowed themselves to succumb to the beserker rage that sometimes took them on the battlefield – indeed, in a crisis that called for force of arms, most people who knew what they were about would rather have a single Qinghe Nie on their side than an entire battalion of war-droids from the Jin or Wen engineering corps.
Still, even that efficiency might not have been enough to convince the ancient sticklers of the Jedi Council to condone such a Sith-like view of the Force, but the Qinghe Nie also had an unsurpassed connection to the kyber crystals that were essential to the creation of lightsabers – the mines under their hands were far more numerous and more fruitful than any other order, and for all that they seemed to have dubious connections to the lightsabers they crafted and wielded, with their highly unusual one-sided edge, they were always open-handed and willing to let other Jedi pick freely from their stores.
With the ancestral weapon of the entire Jedi order at stake, even the Jedi Council unwillingly bowed its head to reality and compromised.
Not very happily. Especially since the fierce young head of the Qinghe Nie order – the great Chifeng-zun, Nie Mingjue – had been constantly causing trouble for them ever since he had been admitted to their deliberations.
More relevantly, though, was that Nie Mingjue was also a good friend of Lan Xichen, Lan Wangji’s elder brother by blood, and it had been the gift of his token, his passcode, never revoked, that they had used to enter through the gates.
(Look what happened to the Twin Jades you prized so much, my old clansmen, Uncle, Father, Grandfather. Look at me now. Begging for scraps from a Nie -)
Lan Wangji turned and saluted, bowing deeply and ignoring Xue Yang, who had progressed so far into hysterical laughter that he was now hiccupping.
Nie Mingjue caught his hands and raised him up, just the way he always had, and that grim face surveyed Lan Wangji from top to bottom, those searing eyes seeming to pierce into the depths of his corrupted soul.
“You look well,” he said, which surprised even Lan Wangji, who had thought himself beyond surprises. “That’s good.”
“What the fuck,” Xue Yang muttered. “What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck – you guys are with me here, right? This is kriffing insane…”
The Qinghe Nie Jedi ignored him.
“Chifeng-zun,” Lan Wangji said politely, and ignored the man’s raised eyebrow. He was not about to fall back into calling him da-ge the way he’d done back when he was in the Jedi crèche, no matter how tempting – everyone had called Nie Mingjue da-ge back then, too young to be afraid of his fierce and barely leashed energy. “Thank you for lending us temporary use of your base.”
There wasn’t really a polite way to say I wasn’t expecting to run into you here under the circumstances, but from the way Nie Mingjue snorted, Lan Wangji suspected he’d understood regardless.
“Checking up on the Jin,” he said, an explanation that Lan Wangji didn’t deserve to hear. “Treasonous svapers, the lot of them. Is this Wei Wuixan?”
Lan Wangji nodded. His heart was unexpectedly in his throat as Nie Mingjue studied the other Jedi through the glass of the bacta tank, though he wasn’t sure why.
He was Sith now, after all. Why would he care what Nie Mingjue thought?
It would have been easier if Nie Mingjue had been angry at him, full of rage the way he so often was. Easier if he’d turned his tongue as sharp as any lightsaber to scolding him, or turned his face away in coldness. Nie Mingjue notoriously despised the Sith, had probably meant to call the Jin Sithspawn instead of svapers earlier, had probably switched the word only in deference to Lan Wangji’s current occupation – which meant he knew, because of course he knew, there was no way Lan Xichen hadn’t told him even if his position on the Council hadn’t already entitled him to all such secrets.
He knew, and he still persisted in acting like – like –
“Cute enough,” Nie Mingjue commented, and Lan Wangji covered his suddenly burning face with both hands. “You have good taste.”
“Please stop,” Lan Wangji mumbled, mortified beyond all belief. Xue Yang was looking back and between the two of them with his jaw gaping wider than a Gungan’s.
Nie Mingjue snorted, amused. “I carried you around on my shoulders when you were knee high, Wangji. I think I’m entitled to torment you a bit about your crush.”
Xue Yang looked like he was going to forsake the ways of the Sith, convert to Qinghe Nie, and start logging prayers at the temple of Nie Mingjue, and Lan Wangji couldn’t even blame him.
“Don’t you have anything to say about –” Lan Wangji shut his mouth with a snap.
He didn’t actually want to hear Nie Mingjue exorcising him for his choices, no matter how little he regretted them.
Nie Mingjue was silent for a moment, contemplative. “No.”
Lan Wangji blinked, not understanding.
“I don’t have anything to say,” Nie Mingjue clarified with a shrug. “I can’t say I entirely understand why you chose what you did, but we all choose our own paths in the Force, Wangji. I have faith that even though your path leads you to the Dark Side now, it will eventually lead you back to us once more. If you keep your sense of righteousness about you and continue to stand up for what you believe is right as you always have – and avoid engaging in the wholesale slaughter of innocents the way so many Sith do – I will never be disappointed in you.”
…maybe Lan Wangji would allow the people in that spaceport to live.
But only because it would hurt Wei Wuxian to know that he had sacrificed so much for nothing, of course. It was pure selfishness, nothing more.
(The Dark Side hissed in his head, bitter-angry-vicious-hate-hate-hate, but Lan Wangji hadn’t been Hanguang-jun for nothing. He controlled himself, allowing for only the influences he chose to accept – it was his independence that had led him to the Dark Side, and his independence, he believed, that would allow him to forge his own path, as Nie Mingjue had said, even inside the ways of the Sith. His uncle would say that such thoughts were pure arrogance, pride before the fall, but, well. He’d already Fallen, hadn’t he?)
“Would you like to stay with him until his vital signs have recovered?” Nie Mingjue asked, and Lan Wangji nodded, grateful despite himself.
Grateful, too, that Nie Mingjue did not speak of Lan Wangji reconciling with the rest of his old order.
“I will not stay longer,” he added. “I know it must be a burden to you, opening your doors to one such as me –”
“Ridiculous,” Nie Mingjue scoffed. “This is a secret base, Wangji. If you don’t say anything about it, who’ll know? And before you ask, I’m going to tell Wei Wuxian that you saved his life whether you’re here for him waking up or not, so take that into account when selecting your leave time. And I’ll exaggerate.”
He would, too, Lan Wangji thought fondly. Nie Mingjue had always been big brother to all the Jedi younglings, no matter how grown up they eventually got, and he never let them forget it.
“I’ll consider it,” he allowed, and settled into a meditation pose at the side of the room.
“As for you,” Nie Mingjue said to Xue Yang, who straightened up so quickly that he might as well have attached a ruler to his spine. “I hear that you’re the one that’s been attacking Hutt palaces?”
Xue Yang glanced at Lan Wangji, who sighed.
“You shouldn’t encourage him, da-ge,” he murmured. “He gets into enough trouble as it is.”
“Comradery does more to defeat evil than any amount of solitary philosophizing,” Nie Mingjue proclaimed, certain as ever in his own righteousness. It would be unbearably irritating if it was anyone less sincerely bullheaded about it, earnest but full of flaws. “Anyway, it’d be good for some of our padawans to see a Sith in action without needing to go up against one right off the bat. You in?”
“…in? I don’t – there aren’t any Hutt palaces around here..?”
“They take their travelling palaces on the Quiberon Line,” one of the Qinghe Nie Jedi said, and Xue Yang’s eyes lit up at the promise of what he undoubtedly thought was an opportunity for wholesale slaughter. It wouldn’t be, of course, not when he was going to be fighting alongside the strict Qinghe Nie, but it would keep him busy for the time it took Wei Wuxian to stabilize and recover.
Maybe Lan Wangji would even stay long enough to speak with his Wei Ying before retreating to be his silent and unwanted protector again.
Maybe.

Chapter 5: Better Off on my Own
“Would you slow down, lass.” Killian tugged on her hand, pulling her back toward him.
“Sorry, I’m just nervous.”
He pulled her closer to him, a small smile growing as he brushed her hair out of her face. She smiled nervously. “Just act natural.” He said softly as his fingers slid across her jaw. “Relax, Emma.” He whispered as he leaned toward her, his mouth lightly caressing the corner of her lip. His heart raced the moment they touched, quickly pulling away, a smirk on his face as she stared at him dumbfounded.
“Better now?” He inquired, and she nodded silently. “Alright, let’s go find that fun house.” She walked beside him, her eyes darting in every location as she searched for anything that seemed familiar.
“Him.” She nudged him with her elbow. “He was manning the ride that night.” A short stalky man was standing at the entrance to the Ferris Wheel. Killian recognized him as well, he was sure he had sold them the tickets the night Alice disappeared.
“Aye, he’s familiar to me as well.” He smiled at her and nodded his head, diverting their steps in another direction so as not to come face to face with the man.
As soon as they faced the fun house ride, his steps stilled as he saw the woman they had captured previously. “Tink.” He said softly, before his entire world stood still. Behind the woman walked a blonde girl, eyes blue as the sky, staring toward the ground. “Alice.” She was older, her hair was longer than he remembered, but he would recognize her anywhere. He rushed toward them before Emma yanked him backward by the arm.
“Stop. We can’t just grab her; we need to find out where they have the others.” Killian reluctantly agreed with her, and they walked quickly toward the house of mirrors.
“Tickets.” The man asked with his hand out.
Killian frantically searched his jacket trying to find the tickets quickly. He watched his daughter disappear behind the door into the house. Finally, his fingers found the paper tickets and he shoved them toward the man. “Here.” He pushed through the turnstile and rushed toward the fun house, Emma hot on his heels.
“Killian slow down.” She yelled behind him, but he couldn’t stop moving, he needed to get to Alice. Rushing through the door he found his image staring back at him. Looking back and forth he tried to get his bearings, putting his hands out in front of him to slide against the mirrors as he made his way down the halls. He felt the desperation growing inside of him the further he went into the blasted house of horrors.
He needed to find Alice!
When he reached the exit, the light flooding into the darkness, he cried out as if in pain. “No.” Turning around he wandered back through the house until he found Emma, clawing her way through the halls.
“Did you find anything?”
“Did I find anything?” He repeated sarcastically. “They’re gone. I could have had her…” He slammed his hand into the glass mirror in front of him, shattering it to the ground but ignoring the way the woman jumped beside him.
“But you saw her, you know Alice is alive…”
“Don’t.” He cut her off. “Don’t talk to me about her, don’t even say her name. I would have had her tonight if it weren’t for you holding me back.” He shouted.
“Holding you back? I only asked for you to wait, to try and find the others.”
“And because of you she’s gone. You made me lose her twice.” She stepped away from him. “I was better off on my own.”
“Killian, I never meant…”
“Save it, I should have known better than to trust someone else.” He growled, placing the car keys in her hand and storming toward the entrance.
~*~
Emma peered through her eyes, the sunlight blinding her as it streamed through the blinds. She heard movement on the other side of her apartment and groaned as she rolled onto her side. Dragging herself to sit, her feet hit the floor with a thud. She stood wearily, sliding her feet across the wooden boards beneath her feet as she made her way through her apartment.
“Look what the cat dragged in. Bloody hell you look like shit.” Will was standing in her kitchen with a plate of eggs in his hands. “I was just about to wake you.”
“What are you doing here?”
“Checking up on ya, makin’ sure ya eat.”
“I’m fine.”
“Emma, you’ve been running around all over the bloody state, how is any of that fine?”
“I have to find him, Will.”
“Emma, I know…” A knock at the door interrupted them and Emma jumped at the sound. “You expectin’ someone?”
She walked toward the door and looked through the peephole, her eyes widening at the sight on the other side of her door. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” Stepping back, she tore open the door. “What can I help you with, officers?” She said with a saccharine tone and a fake smile plastered on her face.
“Miss Swan.” Officer Nolan said with a nod. “May we speak to you for a moment?”
“Did you find Henry?”
Officer Locksley shook his head in the negative and Emma rolled her eyes and stood away from the door to allow them to enter. “So why are you wasting my time this morning instead of searching for my son?”
“We’ve come to ask you a few questions.” David glanced at his partner before turning back to her. “About your visit to the fair last night, with Killian Jones.”
“Emmie…” Will admonished as he sat down at the table beside her and Emma shot him a warning glance.
“What? If they aren’t going to do their job, someone has to.” She growled.
“Ma’am, can you explain what you were doing at the fair last night?” Officer Locksley asked.
“I really enjoy cotton candy.” She said with a shrug as he began laying photos onto the table. Emma’s eyes widened as pictures of Emma and Killian fell to the table. One of the two of them holding hands, a picture of him kissing her, them standing in front of the fun house.
“How long have you been working with Killian Jones?”
“Are the two of you in on this together?”
“Where do you keep the children?” Officers Nolan and Locksley went back and forth asking questions in an accusatory tone that Emma did not appreciate.
Suddenly Will stood from the table, anger in his eyes. “How dare you. I don’t like the accusations you’re making.” He warned as the two men stood up, their eyes glaring at Will.
“We’re just trying to get information. Doing our job.” Robin spat.
“If you were doing your job, you’d have found her bloody son already. But since you haven’t, maybe you should get back to it.” He began to advance on the officers.
“Will.” Emma shouted, standing up and putting her hand on his chest. “You have pictures of me and Killian. So what? He understands what I’m going through, we have shared experience. Am I under arrest for going out on a date?” Emma asked angrily.
“Not as of yet.” Robin huffed.
“Then I’d like you to leave.” She tilted her chin upward, “Now.”
Stepping toward the door, Will waited until they had exited before slamming it shut and turning to face her. “What the hell is that?” He asked pointing to the photos. “You’re bloody dating this man now?”
“No, of course not. We were undercover.”
“Undercover?” His eyes widened. “Are you bloody mad, woman?”
“I have to find him and Killian, well, he’s just as motivated as I am. But…” She frowned. “He’s not speaking to me anymore.”
“What? Why?”
“Last night, we saw his daughter. He wanted to go after her, but I told him to wait, I wanted to find Henry too.” She sat at the table, picking up the photo of the two of them standing in front of the fun house. “By the time we caught up to her, she was gone.” Her thumb grazed the photo of him kissing her. “He blames me for losing his daughter. And he’s right. It was my fault.”
“Emma, this is crazy, you can’t go around searching for Henry on your own. Something else is going on here. Something dangerous. You have to be careful. And you have to stay away from this Killian Jones.”
She tossed the photo to the table. “You don’t have to worry about that anymore.”
“Good. We’ll find Henry, but…” He wrapped his arms around her. “I can’t lose you too.”
“You’ll never lose me.” Emma smiled as she snuggled into her friend’s chest. “Can you stay tonight? I don’t want to be alone.”
“You’re not alone, Em. No matter what happens, you’ll never be alone.”
~*~
Killian angrily slammed himself into the metal chair in the center of the room, his eyes glaring around the tin box they put him in. He was furious when Officer Nolan picked him up from work and drug him into the station back in Storybrooke. He was pretty sure his reach was out of her district and yet here he was in Officer Mills station.
The door opened and Regina Mills entered the room, the air of superiority and arrogance filling the space around him.
“For what reason am I afforded this pleasant meeting?” He stood as she entered the room.
“Sit.” She demanded as she tossed a folder onto the table. “Why is it that trouble seems to follow you, Mr. Jones?”
“I haven’t the foggiest idea what you are inferring about.”
She opened the folder to a photo of him and Emma standing in front of the fun house last night, hand in hand, staring at each other.
“Bloody hell, does my ass always look like that in those jeans?” He grinned.
“Where’s the girl?” She demanded.
“Well, I’m not certain right now, you see Emma and I have a pretty open relationship. We aren’t exclusive, I don’t keep tabs on her.” He sat back in his seat, crossing his arms.
“I’m not talking about the damn woman you’ve roped into helping you, I’m talking about the girl.” She yelled, pointing to the small blonde child in the photo standing in front of them. “Why is it that you and this Swan woman show up and another kid goes missing?”
Killian sat up suddenly. “Wait, a girl went missing last night? How did I not see her? I was so focused…” He trailed off.
“Oh, now you’re suddenly paying attention. Where did the jokes go?”
“I was just trying to get to Alice.”
“Excuse me?”
“My daughter…she was there.” Killian picked up the photo, he barely remembered the blonde girl from last night, he was so focused on getting into the fun house to find his daughter. How had he missed this child in front of him? “I didn’t…”
“Stop talking, Jones.” The door swung open as the fiery woman stepped into the room. “Regina.” She said pointedly, “I know you aren’t questioning my client without his lawyer present.”
“Of course not Ms. French.” Regina said with a frown as she slammed the folder closed on the table.
“Are you charging Mr. Jones today?”
“You already know that I’m not.”
“Let’s go.” She said as she narrowed her eyes in Killian’s direction. Killian smiled at Regina as he stood.
Killian leaned over as he approached Regina. “We’re on the same side here. I swear to you, my daughter was there last night. If this girl went missing, that has to mean something. I’m begging you…follow the trail.”
“Killian, now.” Belle demanded.
Killian followed Belle through the halls of the station, he could tell by her posture that she was angry. He had known Belle since he before he had met his wife. She had been at his side when Alice was born, when they put Milah in the ground, and the day that Alice had gone missing. Without Belle, there was no doubt that he would have put himself in an early grave.
The moment they exited the station, she turned on him angrily. “What were you thinking?”
“I almost had her.”
“Almost had her…” She turned and stormed toward the car, turning back to him as she reached the vehicle. “You almost got arrested. Do you realize what it took to get them off your back last time you showed up around that damn carnival?”
“Belle, I’m close.”
“You’re close to losing your best friend, Killian.”
He frowned. “I swore to her that I would find her! I can’t give up on her.”
She opened the car door and climbed in the passenger side, tossing her keys toward him. “You’re driving, I’m too angry to drive.”
He walked around and climbed into the driver’s seat of the car, starting the engine before he turned toward her. “I’m sorry you had to come down here.”
“When your boss called and told me they hauled you out in the back of a cruiser again, I swear Killian, I can’t keep doing this.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
“Who is this woman?”
“What woman?” He turned back and pulled out of the parking lot, heading toward home.
“The blonde in the photos, the woman you were kissing…” He could feel her staring at him. “Who is she?”
“No one.” He caught a glimpse of her and frowned. “Look, she’s just helping me out. Her son is missing too.”
“Killian…”
“She showed up at my door asking questions about Alice. Her kid went missing in Storybrooke too.”
She groaned. “Killian, I know you miss her. I miss her too. But you can’t keep going to that fair.”
“Another kid went missing when we were there.”
“Yeah, and they think you did it. Don’t you get it? They want to pin this whole damn mess on you. Stop helping them make their case, you look like a crazy man.”
“I’m not bloody crazy, Belle. I saw her last night. She was there.”
Belle sighed in the seat beside him. “I’m not saying you’re crazy. If you saw her, then she was there. But you can’t help Alice if you are rotting away behind bars.”
“No one else is helping her. The only person who has even looked at me like I made any bloody sense lately is Emma Swan.”
She reached her hand across the seat and touched his arm. “I believe you. I just don’t want to see you get your hopes up like last time.”
“I’m going to find her, Belle.” He replied softly as he pulled into the spot and parked the car.
“I know you will, Killian.”
“I can’t just give up on her. She’s out there, going through something and I can’t be there to protect her. She’s alone and scared and I…” He swallowed hard. “I failed her.”
“No. You’ve never failed her. Never. Killian listen to me…” Her hand reached over and pressed against his cheek, pulling his eyes in her direction. “When God was giving out dad’s, he gave Alice the best one out there and I know that if anyone is going to find her, it’s you. Just be safe, please.”
He wiped at his eyes with the edge of his sleeve. “I love you ‘Elle. Have I told you that lately?”
“It’s always nice to hear it.” She smiled. “Now, have you eaten?”
“You know the answer to that.”
She grinned as she reached for the handle to the door. “Good, then let’s get something to eat and maybe you can tell me a little about this Emma woman you were kissing in that picture.”
He groaned. “There’s nothing to tell, we were working undercover, that’s all.”
“Mm hmm, yes it looked like you were having a terrible time.” Killian tapped the top of the vehicle and smirked.
“Honestly, love, there’s nothing to tell.”
“Perhaps if you started from the beginning, I’ll decide for myself.” As Killian followed her into the diner he knew there would be no denying his friend the tale of how he met Emma Swan. Though he wasn’t sure the story even mattered anymore, after the way he yelled at her the last time they spoke, he was sure that she would never speak to him again anyway.
~*~
“What do you want us to do, Cap?”
Regina stared at the photo on her desk. She wasn’t sure what Killian Jones and Emma Swan were up to, but something told her things weren’t as they seemed. The disappearances at the carnival were too coincidental to not be related to each other. Throughout the years she had kept her eye on Killian Jones, the man had all the red flags she knew to look out for. Dead wife, convict, taking care of a kid on his own, everything screamed that he was responsible for whatever happened to his daughter.
But then other children started going missing, each time they tried to trace it back to the man but there was never anything concrete that connected him beyond his interference in her investigation. Perhaps if Regina had her own children she might have understood the man’s desperation but as a single woman, devoid of her own family or significant other, she simply couldn’t grasp being so unable to let go of something.
Then there was the matter of Emma Swan. Somehow she had gotten involved with Killian and now there were two of them out there getting in the way of her investigation.
Something wasn’t adding up. She had researched Emma Swan, single mother, barely making ends meet, but from everything she had dug up, the woman loved her child more than anything else in her world. For her to be involved with bad boy Killian Jones, meant that she believed that this man could find her son, that she believed his daughter was still out there…missing.
“Go over the Jones and Swan cases one more time.” She looked up at her reports standing in her office. “Go through everything, every piece of evidence we have. Go back out to that carnival, snoop around. Something stinks here and I want to know what it is.”
“I thought Killian was our guy?” Robin asked.
“Maybe…” She stared at the photo of the man with his daughter. “Let’s just make sure we’re right.”

hiya callie!! this one is gonna be long, so prepare yourself >:]
thank you so much for all the music recs! i’m gonna listen to all of em after i send this ask, and i’m so excited to. :D my music taste is also very mixed, and it was hard for me to find fitting songs as well, but i’m sure yours fit wonderfully. i’ve been a glass animals fan for 5~ years now, n i couldn’t recommend their music enough. some good albums to start with are how to be a human being, my favorite, and dreamland! (that’s the one heat waves is from, all the songs have pretty similar vibes.)
sunnie!! i’m so glad my dog brightened your mood. <3 she just turned 4, so we baked her and her brother a cake! she didn’t like it too much, but her brother definitely did hehe. they’re… basically my children. n she loves you too. :]]]
but callie!! star wars is so good, i know you’ve probably gotten this a lot, but please watch it. i don’t blame you or judge you for not seeing any of em, in fact, i had only seen the sequels until two-ish years ago, when i watched all the films. but it’s such a great franchise, i’m rewatching the sequels now, deeeeefinitely not just for poe dameron. (though i do admit the thought of a poe fic from you has me excited-)
i think my favorite piece of star wars media is the mandalorian though. it’s a disney plus show, starring oscar’s space sister, pedro pascal. :] i won’t spoil anything, but i love it because it shows how it is to live as a normal person, and not a jedi, in the star wars universe. and speaking of disney plus shows, the new obi-wan show is great as well, but it’s a bit hard to understand what’s going on with no prior knowledge teehee. you can probably look up a timeline for yourself, to prevent confusion.
but enough about star wars! i took your advice to heart, n guess what? i started writing a moon knight fic! due to the anonymous nature of… well… all of this, it will probably be hard to tell which fic is the one i wrote. but! it will be a sfw fic abt marc and jake, angsty because i am angsty. if you ever do read it i hope you enjoy it, and thank you so much for inspiring me to write again. it’s been a while, but my beta reader seems very happy with it so far. <333
that’s about all i have to say. to be honest, writing these asks like little letters have been the highlight of my day recently. i hope today treated you well, callie. :]
- <3
hi amor 💕 sorry for taking almost a day to answer :((
omg that’s like me with imagine dragons! i’ve been listening to them for maybe eight years now?? all of their songs are fantastic and i would definitely recommend them to everyone. ugh i love that band sooo much but i haven’t seen them live yet which is so weird of me not to. idek why i haven’t gone to a concert literally nothings stopping me LOL

so,, i was listening to music while reading your smau jsksjsh and i just thought,, can i request an angsty one for atsumu, sakusa, kenma (or you can pick which one of em !!) based off of the lyrics, "you're still all over me like a wine stained dress i cant wear anymore" maybe as like, a post breakup thing ??? thank you and ily 💗💓💖💓💗
post breakup w/ atsumu, sakusa, and kenma
a/n: i wasn’t sure if you wanted this to be a scenario or hcs, so i ended up just doing a mix of both

— m. atsumu
i think atsumu’s definitely the type to rebound
especially after a quite serious or maybe long term relationship, the first month and a half he’s usually in his feelings about it
atsumu’s post breakup comes in stages: confusion, hurt, rebound, then acceptance
at the first stage, he’s overall really understanding yet still confused on what he did wrong to possibly lead to the break up, but it’s definitely short lived and only lasts about a week or two
it’s then the hurt stage comes into play and he’s a definitely the type to say that “love isn’t real” while having his four hour sad playlist on repeat for a good month
after the two month point of the breakup, he’s already searching for a rebound all due to the fact that he thinks he’s been hung up over you for way too long
i think he’s well aware that he isn’t really ready for another relationship, but anything to finally let you go
this is probably atsumu’s first time using dating apps and he uses three at the same time
since a lot of people find professional volleyball players hot (i mean who wouldn’t?) he easily gets a ton of matches, but most of the time they don’t go as far as messaging each other
only 1/10 of his matches actually go out on a date with him as after dating you, his standards are just really high and no one else could compare to you
and it just so happens that the rare occasion of finally going out on a date again, he just has to bump into you
atsumu couldn’t remember the last time his heart skipped a beat like this. it was almost as unfamiliar as the first time it happened when he laid his eyes on you. barely three months had passed since the end of your relationship with atsumu, and yet you looked different than before. it wasn’t bad in any way, if anything, you looked even better and magnificent than before.
he wondered what in the hell happened within those three months you were no longer his.
you absolutely sparked under the moonlight with your eyes glimmering as if it were soaked in the finest honey. stunning was a grand understatement. however, within the little rendezvous his gaze had taken to take one last glance at you, there was a sudden hollowing in his chest the moment he laid his eyes upon your date. they were equally as good looking as you and he hated to admit that you two paired so well together.
it was then the chrysalis of his sudden insecurity and yearning for your familiar warmth and silk promises to love him unconditionally would no longer be his. and just like your lingering aroma of strawberries on each and every piece of his returned clothing that you stole, your affect on him refused to disappear like a stain that never goes away.
— s. kiyoomi
this guy is definitely the type of guy who believes that they are moved on when they truly haven’t
unlike atsumu who purposefully find rebounds in order to prove his feelings wrong, sakusa isn’t even aware that he’s still hung up on you
sakusa was very mature about the breakup. he heard you out, understood your reasons, and even offered to stay as friends after a serious, long term relationship with you
although something like this would be expected from a personality like his, i think after hearing so many bad breakup stories from his friends, sakusa literally refuses for his relationship to end the same way
that’s most likely the reason why he acted so mature and literally refuses to let himself be sad over something that ended up not working out
so after a couple months pass after the breakup, he isn’t exactly active in seeking a relationship. he also wasn’t the one who asked the other out on a date, but after a lot of convincing from atsumu, he ended up going out with someone for the first time in months
however, the moment he sees your familiar face sitting across your newest s/o in the same restaurant, he immediately blames atsumu for all this
sakusa’s breath hitched as he took a sip from his wine, choking slightly on the red liquid as his eyes had cast upon your glory sitting at the other side of the restaurant. the contents from his wine glass spilled slightly when he attempted to play it off well.
he hoped you hadn’t noticed him here either as he couldn’t bear the winds of you even after months had passed. despite offering to stay as friends, you two had failed to keep in contact. in sakusa’s defense, it was his only way of truly coping with his feelings still existing for you no matter how hard he tried. he feared the moment he heard your calming voice or even see you for a fraction of a second would his love for you come crashing down on him like a wave of unspoken epiphanies.
the rest of the night, sakusa couldn’t stop himself from casting occasional glances at you and missing you in every which way. from laughing at whatever your partner said to simply your divine look of the evening had interested him more than what his date in front of him had to say.
perhaps it was at that moment—the moment he spilled that wine over him, that you were the stain he couldn’t remove.
— k. kenma
i believe kenma is the type that’s really good at distracting himself after a breakup
he doesn’t notice the way he sometimes forces himself to stream and play video games in order to not get saddened by the fact that you were no longer by his side
while atsumu chooses to prove his feelings wrong and sakusa isn’t even aware of his feelings, kenma is the one who straight up ignores it
he’s so used to acting so nonchalant in most situations that he isn’t really sure what to do now that his heart aches every time he goes on social media and sees that you had already moved on
kenma wishes he could move on as well, but once again, he likes ignoring any negative feelings by distracting himself
i think the only reason why he even landed himself on a date is because one of his new streamer friends asked him out on one during a stream and he couldn’t say “no, i’m emotionally unavailable right now.” in front of 100k+ watchers
he wasn’t even expecting this date to be a big deal until he sees you whispering something in your new s/o’s ear
kenma’s ticking time bomb of a heart was loud enough to be heard over the nightclub’s buzzing beats. he didn’t even notice how close he was to spill his and his date’s drinks on the way back to his table when he found you.
he could’ve swore he stood there for eons before his date had to snap him out of his thoughts to call him over. kenma was just glad you hadn’t noticed his standing figure as it would have at least saved him from anymore humiliation. seeing you happy and in love with himself else besides him was humiliating enough.
the whole night was filled with a single distraction—you. it was ironic, really, how the guy who was so good at distracting himself from his own lingering feelings towards you couldn’t ignore the person who caused it all. how rude of you to make him miss you this much in the midst of a boisterous club and a large crowd. even the shots he forced himself to down just to forget about you had decimated the moment he seared down his esophagus.
if only his love for you expired the same way yours did for him.

Ice Cream Cake
Pairing(s): Pedro Pascal/Female Reader
Words: 3,233
Warnings: None
Pedro (in collaboration with your mother) throws you a party for your birthday, but not for the reason you originally thought.
DISCLAIMER!
So, the beautiful Maggie ( @221bshrlocked ) was talking here on Tumblr about an age gap between reader and Pedro and I am HERE👏🏻FOR👏🏻 IT👏🏻 so expect more of this because she's got me hooked. Blame her... when she gets back from her break! I originally planned for this to be FILTHY, but no matter how many times I tried to work it in, it just didn't fit. So, have some fluff instead! Maybe next time, you filthy whores.
This works as a stand-alone, but I do consider it to be in the same universe as Beautiful People. It isn't necessary in the slightest to read that before this, but it is available if you would like to give it a read.
As always, comments are welcomed and encouraged.
You can also follow me on Twitter if you'd like. My life is boring, but I try.
Enjoy!

My Masterlist
It’s a warm summer evening. The frogs are croaking, the fireflies are starting to come out, and the crickets are singing as the sun began to dip over the horizon of the mountain. The perfect kind of evening for bonfires, camping, or even some late swimming. All great ways to spend a gorgeous evening. Far better than being pressed up against the glass of the local community center… in your opinion at least. However, for the sweaty fangirls, the chance of even getting a glimpse of your boyfriend was by far the better option.
“Such heathens.” Your mamaw said, rolling her eyes at the crowd outside. “They should show some dignity.”
“You were young too, Mom. Cut’em a break.” You Mom replied, carrying a plate of homemade peanut butter rolls.
“Well, I’d like to think I’d have more respect than to stare and lust over a local's boyfriend on her birthday, famous or not. He ain’t even here yet for cryin’ out loud!” You reached for one of the treats while your Mom was occupied, quickly stuffing it in your mouth. It was just as delicious as always.
“You should call for more security. If they’re like this when the man ain’t even here, I’d hate to see em’ when he does. Someone’s gonna get hurt.” Your Mom thought for a moment, looking back to the crowd outside that had somehow doubled in just that short amount of time alone.
“Yeah, you’re probably right. I’ll get on the phone and let the- Honey, don’t eat all of your aunt Judy’s PB rolls!” Your Mom scolded you once she noticed your stuffed cheeks.
“I dunno what you’re talking about.” You replied, mouth still full.
“It’s the bee’s birthday, Annie. Leave er’lone.”
“Then you can explain to the guests why there’s no rolls left.” The door suddenly opened, the overwhelming chatter from outside piercing the otherwise calm atmosphere of the community center and startling the three of you. You worried for a split second that maybe one of the fangirls had gone rouge and got past the guards or that one of the guests arrived way too early, but it was just your best friend, Emily… thank God.
“Damn, you’d think there was a celebrity nearby or something.” She joked, pointing her thumb back towards the door.
“There isn’t.” Emily’s smirk morphed into pure confusion.
“Whaddya mean? I thought he was supposed to be here around four?”
“Last second table read. Set him back a few hours.” She nodded in understanding, stealing one of the peanut butter rolls from the plate your mom was still carrying. She was about to protest but decided to take the damn treats into the ballroom so they would quit getting swiped in the first place. Even then she had your brother to worry about.
“Well, come on. We gotta go get you all dolled up for your man.” You looked towards the crowd, the mere idea of walking past all of those people green with envy making you nervous. Security guards or not.
“W-we can’t escape out of the back, can we?”
“Nope, they’re lined up back there too. I tired.” You threw your head back with a groan.
“Fuck.”
“There’s security out there, honey. They’ll protect you.” You mamaw said.
“Yeah, c’mon. You don’t wanna start your party in a ratty t-shirt and some jeans, do you?”
Honestly, you didn’t care.
When Pedro asked you what you wanted to do for your 25th birthday, you answered with the what you normally did. Stay home, do nothing, treat yourself to an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen, and maybe have Emily come over.
“When’s the last time you’ve done something special for your birthday?” He’d asked.
‘It’s been years. I’m not the party type and I never have the money to do what I actually want. Even a DQ cake is a decent amount of cash for me.” He paused for a moment, obviously thinking.
“... What have you actually wanted to do?” You immediately knew what he was up to.
“Nope! Don’t even think about it! It’s way too much money. Seriously, a DQ cake at home with you is more than enough.” It wasn’t his idea of spoiling you on your birthday, but he agreed. If that’s really what you wanted, then he’d give it to you. Whether you knew it or not, he’d give you the world if he could.
When you and Pedro visited your mother one weekend, she had asked you the same question. Before you could get out the answer you had given Pedro, she'd already replied with her own.
“You know, you haven’t had a proper party in years. We should throw you one.” You tried again to intervene, but Pedro stepped in.
“I’ll help in any way I can. Mi Abeja deserves something special for her birthday.”
So much for your private DQ cake celebration.
You weren’t ungrateful or anything. In fact, you really didn’t mind it. A day of dancing and good food sounded great and you were thankful to have someone like Pedro that was able to give you that. However, seeing all these people stepping on each other just to get one glimpse of the man you love made you long for that DQ cake.
“Pedro’s tee and jeans are fine.” You answered, Emily clicking her tongue at you and grabbing ahold of your arm. She dragged you towards the door and waved to your Mamaw.
“Be back in about two hours.”
Thankfully, you made it to Emily’s car without a scratch, taking in a huge deep breath once you shut the passenger door.
You wanted to choke her.
____________________
Your hairstylist released the last lock of your hair from the curling wand with a whistle.
“Lookin’ good, cutie! Pedro’s gonna faint when he sees you.” She exclaimed, spinning you around so you could take a look at your freshly styled hair. You cupped the curls framing your face and shook it out a little. Not even you could deny how much you loved being dolled up even if it hadn’t been your idea.
“Thanks, Jo. I love it.”
“You’re welcome, baby.” You got up from the chair and walked over to your couch, picking up the gift box Pedro had given you last week. He’d told you to wear it to your party, but not to open it until then.
“Well, open it! Let’s see what he picked out for you.” Emily exclaimed, obviously more excited about it than you were. Even Jo was peeking over as she got her stuff together.
You pulled the ribbon until it fell slack, placing the box back down on your couch to take the lid off. After fishing through a sea of tissue paper, you finally saw it. A black knee-length dress decorated with beautiful roses and daisies and a pair of black heels that had their own blossom.
“Ooooo! How pretty!” Jo cooed, adorning the dress.
“Man, he has a good eye,” Emily added. “That’s beautiful.” You looked over at her with a crooked eyebrow.
“Did you think he couldn’t match colors or something?”
“No, I’m just saying that men usually suck at stuff like this, but he did great.”
After everything was done, you stepped in front of your full-body mirror to take a look at yourself. You hated to admit it, but you actually looked pretty good. Your hair was curled and framed your face nicely as the dress Pedro had got you hugged your body perfectly. You even liked the heels which was a shock. You hated heels, but he had managed to find a pair that weren’t that tall so your feet wouldn’t hurt. It was a very sweet gesture, but you'd still be taking them off before the night was over.
“Shit!” Emily cursed. “Yeah you’re beautiful bitch, we gotta go. You’re going to be late for your own party!” You got back in her car as fast as possible, the heels slowing you down slightly. Despite that, you managed to make it in time, the security guards redirecting you to the upstairs entrance.
“Pedro’s here and they’ve gone wild. You’ll have to go in where the guests come through. There's more of us up there.” Emily complained mildly about having to park farther than she’d like, but you weren’t really paying much attention to her. Since the guard had told you that your boyfriend was finally here, the only thing you could really focus on was getting to him.
You made your way down the stairs slowly but as fast as possible, trying to avoid using the handrails since the decorators had worked so hard on making them look nice. Suddenly, you heard the crowd gathered outside scream, distracting you from your slow descent. You’re glad they did because at the bottom of the staircase stood the man you couldn’t wait to get to, everything but him going out of focus.
He was wearing a maroon button-down tucked into a pair of black dress pants. The sleeves of his shirt were rolled up, exposing his toned forearms as the black tie sat crooked around his neck. His hair was also slicked back, a few curls defying the gel and coming down to rest on his forehead. His brown eyes were crinkled, his blinding smile causing butterflies to erupt in your stomach almost as much as the trimmed facial hair that framed his jawline.
You continued to make your way down, now using the previously avoided handrails so you could go faster. When you got to the last two steps, he held his hand out for you to take. You gladly did, his calloused hand so large and warm compared to yours. You giggled when the dork pressed a light kiss to your knuckle.
“Are you my Jack for the night?” You teased, earning a snorted laugh from him.
“Nah. Just always wanted to do that. Didn’t think I’d get my chance tonight.” He made sure you came down the last two steps safely, you immediately wrapping your arms around him as soon as your heels touched the tiled floor. You laid your head on his shoulder with a content sigh, Pedro returning the hug as soon as you initiated it, his strong arms holding you tight as he pressed tender kisses to your temple.
“Missed you...” You said quietly, loud enough only for him to hear.
He parted with you ever so slightly to kiss you properly, his lips melding with yours so perfectly that you never wanted to come up for air.
“Alright, alright, break it up you two!” Your dad said, the only thing that saved you from being lost in his lips for the rest of the evening. “C’mon, everyone’s been waitin’ to see ya.” You looked back up at Pedro, smiling wide as soon as you saw that he was staring.
“Stop it.” You laugh. He laughs too, pressing another kiss to the side of your forehead.
“I can’t help it. Mi Abeja looks so pretty tonight.” You reached up to his tie to fix it for him, your eyes focusing on the poorly tied knot that he’d obviously done himself.
“Save it. We have to go greet the family before they blow a gasket.” You said, patting his chest once his tie was finished. He stood next to you and put his hand on the small of your back, gesturing towards the ballroom with his free one.
“Lead the way, honey.”
____________________
The party was well underway by now, the bass of the music thumping hard in your chest as you ate your second piece of birthday cake. It was no DQ ice cream cake, but you couldn’t deny that your aunt Judy could bake.
After the cake was cut, the DJ started playing music, inviting everyone out to the dancefloor. Pedro asked if you wanted to go dance but you turned him down.
“Not yet. I’ll join you once I get my fix on cake.” He nodded, pressing a kiss to your forehead as he left to join your brother and a few of your cousins who were already “cutting the rug” you guessed.
You watched as Pedro loosened up, him and your brother dancing so rediculously that you couldn't help but laugh.
Whether Pedro wanted to believe it or not, he was quickly becoming a Hollywood golden boy. He more than deserved it, but the pressure of it all got to him sometimes and you were ecstatic to see him relaxed for a change.
He’d long discarded his tie, the hair gel barely holding back his curls that started to drape over his eyes that were crinkled up from smiling.
The song they were dancing to ended with one last thud from the bass, the DJ grabbing the mic as soon as it stopped.
“Alright folks, now we’re going to sllooww things down to allow the birthday girl to share a special dance with her love.” You looked up mid-bite of cake, not expecting to be singled out like that.
Pedro walked over to you, offering his hand as the slow song began to play. You quickly swallowed the bite of cake and wiped your mouth off with a napkin, placing your hand in his and allowing him to lead you to the dance floor.
He placed his large hands on your hips, pulling you close and laying his forehead atop of yours as your snaked your arms around his neck. You swayed with him for a bit, the flash of your mom’s camera vaguely registering in your mind, but you didn’t care. It all fades to nothing when you’re with him.
“You’re so beautiful.” He said, his mocha gaze full of adoration when he lifted his head away to look at you.
“You’re not so bad yourself.”
“Even for an old man?” You snickered.
“So nice that any other old man could never compare.” He breathed a laugh through his nose, his crooked smile doing things to you.
You continued to sway to the song, Pedro spinning you around a few times before you settled back into your rhythm. You laid your head on his shoulder after a bit, allowing him to fully take the lead. One of his hands left your hip to come up and hold the back of your head as he pressed gentle pecks atop your head.
“I love you so much.” You smiled on his shoulder, one of your own hands tangling into his dark curls.
“I love you too.”
____________________
Later that night, you and Pedro laid quietly on your bed, his arms tightly wrapped around you as you watched TV together. It was super late and you both were exhausted, but neither of you wanted to sleep. You were quickly losing the battle, however. Your eyes starting to droop as Pedro played with your hair.
“Don’t tell me you’re tapping out already.” He teased, his voice pulling you from the edge.
“M’sorry. S’been a long day.” You felt his chest vibrate with a chuckle, his mustache tickling your cheek as he pressed a kiss to it.
“I had one more gift for you, but I guess it can wait until morning.” Despite how tired you were, you were curious as to what he could have up his sleeve and couldn't resist looking at him over your shoulder.
“What is it?” He laughed.
“Awake now, are we?” He teased, rising up from the sheets with you and getting up. “Wait here. I’ll be right back.”
It took him longer than you expected and he made quite a bit of noise, but it was well worth it.
He watched your eyes light up with happiness as soon as your gaze landed on the piece of DQ ice cream cake he was holding in his right hand, a single lit candle atop of it. He was also holding a blue gift box with a white bow, but you were more focused on the frozen treat at the moment.
“Aww, Pedro…” You cooed as he set the cake down in front of you with a kiss.
“Happy birthday, my sweet Abeja.” You blew the candle out and licked the ice cream off the bottom, setting it aside and digging into the slice. You groaned at the taste, the mattress shifting as Pedro sat back down next to you.
“Good?” You nodded.
“It’s DQ ice cream cake. How could it be bad?” He let you enjoy your treat, your attention suddenly shifting to the gift box he’d sat down. You pointed your fork at it.
“What’s that?” You asked with your mouthful. Pedro looked to the box and picked it up, gesturing for you to take it.
“Why don’t you open it and find out?” You gave him shifty eyes, setting your fork down to take the box out of his hands. You took the bow off and set it aside, lifting the lid off the box quickly. You froze when you saw what was inside.
Laying atop white tissue paper sat your passport and a Mickey Mouse ear hat. You slowly took the hat into your hands, only just now noticing the sticky note that was stuck on the other side. It read:
“To DisneyWorld we will go for your special day, to create memories that will forever stay.”
You didn’t even realize you were crying until Pedro reached up to wipe a tear off of your cheek.
“How… how did yo-”
“I asked your mom. She said that you’ve always wanted to spend your birthday at Disney but never had the money. I knew you wouldn’t go if I told you about it ahead of time, so your Mom and I worked together to throw you a party so you wouldn’t be suspicious.”
There was no way you could accept something this huge from him. It had to cost him a fortune… weeks of his schedule.
“What ab-”
“Shhh.” He shushed. “None of that. You deserve this, Abeja. You work so hard and barely get anything. Please, let me spoil you just this once.” You wanted to turn it down, the guilt of not helping him pay for it eating you up. Though you knew he was under contract with Disney in the first place and more than had enough money to pay for it, you still didn't want him to think that you were trying to mooch.
However, the look of pure nervousness and adoration on his face melted all of that guilt away.
You sat the hat down and reached for him, hugging him tightly as more tears fell down your cheeks.
“...Thank you.” Pedro let out a breath of air you didn’t know he was holding, his arms hugging you back tenfold.
“No amount of money is worth more than this. I promise you that, honey. You’re worth so much more.”
You ended up falling asleep wrapped in his embrace, the day finally catching up with you. Pedro gently laid down, making sure not to wake you as he situated you to lay atop his chest while he laid on his back. You stirred as he pulled the blanket over the both of you, but didn’t rouse any more after that.
He reached over and turned the TV off with the remote and switched off your lamp, pressing a kiss to the top of your head before drifting off right behind you.

Friends and Fears
Summary: Eris is the Alliance Commander, Cipher Nine; Reykal is the most recent champion of the Great Hunt. Each of them finds someone utterly unintimidated by them in the other - something both of them need, especially when discussing old fears usually best left buried. Or, Just a quick one-shot of a bar chat between friends that should've taken me a week and instead somehow took me the better part of a year because I kept getting stuck. (Title subject to change, I've been sitting here for twenty minutes and can't think of anything better so it's either this or the doc name which is just "Spooky", if anyone comes up with anything better feel free to give me a heads-up)

The tiny, grimy cantinas that dotted the streets of every space station like this one were always bustling with activity, rowdy with fights and gambling and music, and this one was no different. It wasn't the kind of place where you couldn't take your hand off your credit purse, but it definitely was the kind of place you wanted to keep a vibroknife on you at all times, just in case. Any self-respecting citizen – Imperial, Republic, or Alliance, and probably Zakuulian too – would steer clear of a place like this. Which was, of course, exactly why it was the best kind of place for an Alliance Commander and a Great Hunt champion to disappear; Reykal always fit right in without even trying, and all it took was a change of makeup and a less formal outfit for Eris to go unnoticed in a place where no one was looking for her.
Reykal had promised this particular spot had the best food and drinks this side of the station, and she wasn't wrong – the fare here was greasy, but good, and came in truly enormous proportions. Better yet, it was busy and loud, and after a quick scan and sweep for bugs – purely out of habit, of course – Eris could actually believe that she didn't need to be on high guard for people listening in. It was nice to just settle in and amiably listen to Reykal spin dramatic stories of her most impressive hunts – even if she'd heard one or two of them before – and of her most recent ones as well, side jobs taken while the Alliance didn't have anything of import for her.
She was just wrapping up one such story when Eris spotted the Sith.
Eris, through sheer power of habitual control, did not stiffen at the sight of him – masked and robed in full Sith garb, clearly just passing through the cantina on his way out from a back room somewhere. She tracked him for a moment – but he didn't turn to look at them, just swept past as if the room were empty instead of crowded with people. She carefully didn't turn to watch him go, despite the urge to do so and despite seeing Reykal turn out of the corner of her eye. Instead, as soon as she was satisfied he wasn't approaching them, she locked her eyes on the reflections in her glass to the exclusion of all else, using the visual focus to shutter everything else away. If there's nothing else in your mind, there's nothing they can read. Just glass, light and color reflected over the curved surface, playing shapes over the pale green liquid inside, tiny bubbles floating to the surface – no thought, no emotion, just glass. Nothing they can read.
“Kinda spooky, aren't they?”
She glanced up at Reykal's interruption. The Togruta sipped her brandy. “Sith. Jedi. Force people.” She wiggled her fingers as if that needed further explanation. “The way they move, the way people move for 'em without even realizing. How they answer questions you haven't even asked sometimes.” She snorted into her glass. “Fuckin' spooky.”
Eris chuckled despite herself, tension easing at the sheer casualness of Reykal's blasphemy. The Sith was gone, the door swinging shut behind him as Reykal spoke – out of the usual range of mental contact. Reykal's eyes sparkled with humor too; she stretched her arms out in front of her across the bar like a cat, all relaxed grace despite her bulk. “It's not the way I would have put it,” Eris admitted, “but I can't say you're wrong.”
“They make everybody nervous. It's not just you. Though I'm surprised you haven't gotten more used to 'em, considering.” She smiled when Eris blinked, a little surprised. “You hide it well. But you quit moving for a split second every time one of 'em comes into the room. You spend more time watching them than me, or Dad, or Hylo. Which probably isn't good for your wallet, knowing Dad and Hylo.” She grinned to take the edge off the joke, points of her fangs still hidden.
“Apparently I don't hide it well enough,” Eris remarked, sipping her own drink – some bubbly lime-and-mint mix she'd already forgotten the name of that the bartender promised tasted almost exactly like its alcoholic version – as she scanned the crowd once. “I've had some... bad experiences. Let's just put it that way.”
“Yeah, I can imagine. You worked with 'em back in the Empire, right?” Reykal rested her chin on one hand, fingers tapping her temple absently. “I did a job for some Intelligence guy, back in the day. Forget his name. Seemed pretty skeeved by the whole thing. Ended up having to kill him after he did try to murder me. 'Loose ends,' or whatever.”
Eris blinked. “Oh, that was you? I think I heard about that.”
Reykal raised her eyebrows. “Really? I thought it was supposed to be under the table, nobody was supposed to know about it.”
Eris laughed aloud at that, shaking her head. “Intelligence always knows.” She paused. “Which probably wasn't the most comforting thing to say, was it?”
“Probably not.” Reykal grinned at her again. “I figure if Intelligence was going to come after me, they'd have done it by now.”
“You were a low-priority target,” Eris assured her, smiling back wryly. “We had bigger fish to fry, at the time. That would have been right before the Dominator blew up and everything went to hell.”
“Bigger fish to fry, eh?” Reykal chuckled. “I'm insulted.”
“Intelligence deals with pretty big fish. Be glad you weren't one of them.”
“Speaking from experience?” Reykal asked, arching an eyebrow.
Eris shrugged, sipping her drink again to hide her smile. “That's classified.”
Reykal scoffed, mocking exasperation at the old half-joke. “'That's classified.' Someday I'm going to have to get some actual drinks in you to get all those classified stories out of you.” She winked. “Personally, I think you just can't hold your alcohol and that's why you're never caught dead with it.”
“That's also classified.” She didn't bother to hide the grin this time.
“Kriff's sake,” Reykal exclaimed, throwing up her hands. “You're impossible. I don't know why I bother.”
Eris laughed. “I'm sure you're very put-upon to deal with me.”
Reykal downed the rest of her glass and turned to flag down the bar droid; Eris took the opportunity to sip her drink and sift through her thoughts again, deliberating. “You're right,” she murmured after a moment of quiet. Reykal turned back to her, raising an eyebrow, and she clarified, “The Sith do... make me nervous. They all do, but... Sith especially.” She huffed a half-hearted laugh. “It's not exactly a secret, at least not to them. They can feel fear a mile away.”
Reykal took her refilled drink absently, attention focused on Eris much more seriously than she had been before. “Working with 'em doesn't help?” she asked. “You and Beniko seem... close.”
Eris tapped the rim of her drink, staring down into it as she thought through her next words. “Minister Beniko and I have worked together closely for long enough that I'm no longer concerned about her...” She trailed off.
“Acting like a murder-hobo Sith?” Reykal filled in. Eris gave her a look that made her snort and raise an appeasing hand. “Sorry. But you were thinking it too.”
“I would have phrased it more tactfully,” Eris sighed, “but... yes. Sith... they tend to use their power to its utmost to control those around them. It's just how things are in the Empire. And they have a great deal of power.” She pursed her lips. “Do you know some cultures worship Force-users as demigods?” Reykal shook her head. “It's true. And who can really blame them?”
Reykal nodded. “A lot of people are scared of them. Not just in the Empire, either. Anyone in their right mind would be wary.”
“It's... bizarre, to be equal to a Force-user,” Eris admitted. “In the Empire, even the lowest Sith acolyte ranks above the Force-blind. To have Minister Beniko and Darth Nox at my war table – my war table – and not be answering to them as superiors... I'm still not used to it, even after all this time. And Master Garen'ishta, and the Barsen'thor – even Senya. I'm used to having to be afraid of them. At this point, I'm not sure I'm capable of not being nervous around them. Not...” Not after Jadus. And Zhorrid. But that she couldn't say out loud, not here, not even to Reykal. “Not after working directly under them for so long.”
Reykal hummed sympathetically, running a finger around the rim of her glass. “I don't blame you. I talk a big game, but really, Force-users have been some of my most dangerous targets. There's a reason most hunters don't take contracts on them at all.” She took a sip of brandy, jaw working as she thought. Quietly, barely audible over the noise of the bar, she added, “D'you actually think any of 'em might turn on you?”
Eris pursed her lips, but shook her head. “Not at this point. The Jedi will fight alongside us for as long as they're convinced our cause serves the greater good – no matter how much the Barsen'thor pretends to be aloof. If Nox were going to turn on us, she would've done it by now; she's had ample opportunity, and in any case, she hates Zakuul and Arcann for stealing her place in the Empire from her too much to ally with them. Senya... Senya will stay loyal for now, at least. And Minister Beniko has long since proved her loyalty, as I said.”
“Well, that's good, at least.” Reykal cracked a grin. “Better'n if you were actually logically worried about 'em.”
Eris smiled. “Are you insinuating that I'm being illogical?”
“Hey, you said it, not me.”
“You are insufferable,” she said mildly, taking another sip of her drink.
Reykal laughed aloud, fangs flashing in the light. “Eh, that's why you like me. None of that faffin' about trying to be dainty and diplomatic about it.”
Eris shook her head, still smiling, but didn't deny it. It was true, really – Reykal was perhaps the only person she talked to on a regular basis who wasn't constantly embroiled in politics and diplomacy, who was brashly open about her thoughts and feelings. It was refreshing, if she was honest – a chance to relax for once, to not constantly have to be watching her every word and gesture. To pretend they were just two friends at a bar and nothing more, for a little while.
Reykal spun around on her stool and leaned back against the bar, flipping her back lek over the edge so it wouldn't get crushed. “We should go shooting after this,” she offered, grinning lazily at Eris. “See if your pistol aim's gotten any better.”
Eris arched an eyebrow, eyeing her skeptically. It was hard to tell in the cantina's soft mood lighting, but she was fairly sure Reykal's lekku were flushed a deeper red than usual. She half-smiled. “I think you've had one too many drinks for that, Master Candessan.”
“Pah, too many drinks. I've shot in worse situations'n this, more drunk'n this.” She grinned again to take the edge off the comment. “Suit yourself, though. What do you do for fun, anyway, when you're not gettin' swamped by hell-knows-what kinda work from the Alliance?”
“You might have heard of this thing called 'reading,'” Eris said, allowing herself an impish grin.
Reykal scoffed playfully through her teeth. “Oh, sure, now the high-and-mighty Imperial act comes out.”
“Don't tell me you're a literary connoisseur.”
“Doesn't mean I don't read.” She stuck out her tongue at Eris in a gesture so childish it startled a genuine laugh out of her. “Miss Hoity-Toity Imperial-Logo-Boxers over here, makin' fun of us peasant folk. What's the Alliance come to?”
Eris swatted her shoulder, trying and failing to stifle her laughter. “Why do I tell you anything?”
“'Cause you like me,” Reykal reminded her cheerfully. She slid off the stool to stand next to the bar. “C'mon, finish your drink already and let's get outta here. We can go window-shopping on the boardwalk and see if there's anything to spend the night on.”
“I do have work to do tomorrow,” Eris told her, but she swallowed the last of her drink and stood as well, sliding a credit chit across the counter to the bar droid as it clanked over.
Reykal wagged a scolding finger at her. “Ay, none of that. You said we'd get a night on the town, you're getting a night on the town. You work yourself too hard.”
“Very well,” Eris agreed, shaking her head with a fond smile. “But I draw the line at drunk bounty hunting or robbing anyone in an alley.”
“You're no fun.” Reykal offered her arm with a dramatic flourish and Eris took it with another laugh, letting the bounty hunter lead her out the door.

The Love Yet Known Part 2
Summary: Tommy Shelby needs to make sacrifices to ensure the safety of his family. So he concocts a plan to marry off his sister to the one and only Alfie Solomons.
Thanks for the love for the first part! Heres for you, @97freaknik. Sorry the tagging system isn’t working.
And thank you to my permanent tag who have yet to block me despite my spamming of works.
The drive to London was almost absolutely silent. Neither Alfie nor Eliza really knew what to say to one another. It was as if they were just acting out something for the sake of Tommy. Neither of them exactly knew how they’d ended up in such a predicament.
Alfie’s mind was racing, wondering how stupid he was to agree to something like marrying a Shelby. He thought about the ramifications, was there even a rabbi who would consider converting her and allowing them to marry? What sort of effect would this have on his life in the long run?
He glanced to his left where Eliza had been sitting quietly since they’d left Warwickshire. Her eyes were locked on the window, never turning her head. He wondered if she was wishing she was on the outside, not in the car with him. Maybe she figured if she didn’t look at him, she wouldn’t have to think of the arrangement.
Alfie cleared his throat, the silence too uncomfortable for his liking. “Erm, you like dogs?” He asked.
She looked away from the window to show she had heard him. “Pardon?”
“Dogs? Do you like dogs? I have a dog.” He clarified. “He ain’t mean or anything. I bought him to be a guard dog but he had other plans. Too nice for his own good.”
A hint of a smile formed on her lips. The sense of humor didn’t exactly fit his image. But it did help her relax a little. “Yes, I like dogs.”
“Good. That’s good. I sorta have a nasty habit of picking up strays.” He admitted. “I don’t keep all of ‘em. There’s a charity that a dear friend of mine runs. They train dogs to help blind people. So, they take in most of the strays.” He rubbed the back of his neck. It was strange. It was almost as if he was trying to list off his good traits so Eliza wouldn’t look at him like he was a monster. Maybe he could put her mind at ease. “But, Cyril I kept. Cyril’s me dog. I kept him, couldn’t give him away.” The silence on Eliza’s end was killing him. He wanted her to say exactly what she thought about him. Most people who worked for him kept their opinions to themselves. Most of his business partners/enemies were vocal about what they thought. But neither of those opinions mattered. Because none of those people were intending to marry him. If they were to marry, Alfie wanted to know Eliza’s opinion of him. Even if she said she hated him and wished him dead, at least he would know.
“He sounds lovely.” She said politely.
“Yeah…he is.” Alfie fiddled with one of his rings. He wasn’t sure how he was going to make this work. It gave him a headache thinking about it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Much to Alfie’s relief, Eliza took immediately to Cyril. The bullmastiff seemed to enjoy a female presence in the flat. At least she didn’t feel completely alone in Camden Town. Alfie just felt a little guilty that her only companion was a slobbery, goofy dog.
Still, he capitalized on her affection for the mutt. He allowed her to take Cyril out for walks whenever she pleased and didn’t say anything when Cyril started to sleep in her bedroom.
Meanwhile, Alfie was trying to figure out the complicated matters of converting Eliza so they could get married. Tommy continued to call to push the matter. It was clear over the phone that he was desperate to make the union complete. The Italians would be closing in at any time and Tommy didn’t need another threat from Camden Town to weigh on him.
“Y’know, I know you’re godless, Tommy. I understand that, but us godly men have rules and those rules simply cannot be tampered with. Centuries of laws, mate, can’t be overturned ‘cause you find it inconvenient.” Alfie said over the phone.
“I gave you money to ensure it.”
“Right, well some rabbis take bribes as an insult, mate.”
“Alfie, if you’re holding out on me…” Tommy warned.
“She’s been living with me for nearly a month, Thomas, if I really wanted to back out, I would’ve sent her home to you.” He cut the man off.
Tommy muttered something over the line but Alfie couldn’t hear what it was.
“There’s a rabbi that Ollie found that might go through with the conversion and marriage,” Alfie said. “When I hear from him, I’ll let you know.”
The Blinder seemed to have his worries put to rest at least for the time being. “And how is she doing there?”
“Well, her best friend is me dog,” Alfie replied honestly. “She hardly speaks to me, not that I blame her much.”
“She’s always been quiet,” Tommy assured him.
“Well, circumstances ‘n such.” Alfie sighed and cracked his knuckles. “Anyways, I’ll let you know, Tom. I’ll let you know.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
One night a couple of days later, Alfie and Eliza were sat down together for dinner. “I just wanted you to know that I’ve found rabbis who are willing to convert you.” He brought up the topic.
“Oh. Okay.” She nodded.
Alfie had learned over the few weeks together that she was a difficult person to read. She was a lot like Tommy, and less like her other brothers who were prone to showing their emotions on the outside. She always spoke to him in a calm, steady, and polite manner. Almost as if she were afraid of setting him off, or it was simply just her demeanor. Alfie would’ve preferred if she were a bit more like Arthur, as terrible as that would be. At least he would know what she was thinking instead of having to guess.
“Didya…well…have ya put any thought into it? I mean, ain’t a small decision.”
Eliza shrugged as she pushed her food around the plate with her fork. “I haven’t put much thought into religion.” She admitted. “Polly was the only one who took Christianity seriously in our family.”
“Right.” He nodded. “Still, being Jewish is more a way of life, innit?”
“That’s what I’ve been told.” Alfie had arranged for Ollie’s wife to give some insight to Eliza into what it meant to be a Jewish wife. He assumed they’d bonded, but Eliza didn’t say much about it. Though, she did frequently visit Ruth and her and Ollie’s pack of kids. She never said what they spoke about.
“Right. Well, just wanted to know what your thoughts about it were.” He posed the question again, hoping to get a little further into her mindset.
“Ruth said if we were going to have children, they needed to be brought up fully Jewish. Or at least, that’s what she thought your intentions were.”
Alfie cleared his throat. How could they discuss children? Of course, it was a factor but a child wouldn’t just magically appear once they were married. And they hadn’t even touched each other aside from the mistaken brush of an arm. “Well, right.” He tilted his head to the side, hoping suddenly for an interruption so he could leave the conversation.
“Alfie?”
The hairs on the back of his neck stood up. It was the first time she had addressed him by name. The way she spoke his name was so soft. Like nothing, he’d heard before. “Hm?” He couldn’t exactly speak properly.
“Do you think I’m afraid of you?”
He raised an eyebrow. “Afraid? Well, I’d hope not. I told your brothers that I ain’t here to hurt you.”
“Then why do you walk on eggshells around me?”
Alfie opened his mouth but only let out a small, confused grumble. It must’ve been that Shelby wit that had gotten them there. She was so good at concealing her feelings that Alfie looked like a fool. Dancing around the topic, trying to please her, giving her everything she wanted. God, he must’ve looked like a sap.
She smiled slightly. “I didn’t expect you to try to impress me so much. The way my brothers spoke of you, I was expecting something else entirely.”
He drummed his fingers on the table. “There’s a difference, yeah, ‘tween business and me personal life. What your brothers see ain’t what you’ll see.” He tried to explain.
It was different from her family’s mentality, or Tommy’s to be more specific. In the Shelby family, everyone dealt with family business. There were no exceptions unless you absconded. Even then, it was tricky to escape business. But it appeared Alfie was keener to keep his two lives separate. Eliza considered how this difference might benefit her.
“All the day’s shit, yeah, it gets left at the fucking door.” He pointed down the hall toward the front door. “This is sorta a sanctuary, innit?”
Eliza nodded. “That sounds nice.”
“Nice, yeah it is nice.” He agreed.
They were quiet for a moment, neither of them really wanted to return to the conversation topic of children. It seemed too fresh.
“Ruth is trying to teach me how to cook kosher.” She spoke up after a bit. It was the first time she offered any information without Alfie prompting her. Maybe because now she felt the flat was a safe place for her. “Just, I dunno if you were wondering why I’m there for so long.”
Alfie shrugged. “I’m glad you two have gotten along. Didn’t want you to feel lonely here.” He admitted and went back to eating before his dinner went cold.
Eliza watched him for a split second. So, he cared about how she felt? Imagine that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took quite a bit of convincing to get the rabbis to convert Eliza. Wrestling with tradition, Alfie knew he was asking for a lot. But the conversion went through and under Jewish law, he was allowed to marry her. Not that he was looking for some massive wedding. It would be best to call the least amount of attention to himself as possible. The Camden community might not take kindly to his bride-to-be if they found out she was a convert. And if they found out she was a Shelby? Well, granted, Alfie was scary enough to thwart off criticism. But he didn’t want the rumors to get around to Eliza. He didn’t want her to feel unwelcome.
In reality, Alfie felt as though he was going mad. Since when had he given two shits about someone’s comfort? His job was basically to make people feel uncomfortable so they’d be more willing to listen. But apparently, Eliza had made quite an impact on him.
She fit in very nicely in his flat. Never made a fuss or anything. That wasn’t to say she was like a little dormouse. She wasn’t very tidy. Alfie chalked this up to her growing up with five siblings. He didn’t particularly mind, though. It was nice to see the flat actually lived in. For so long it had been just a place to sleep. But Alfie realized he had grown fond of coming home late from work and finding traces of Eliza throughout the house.
A dirty pan in the sink, her book on the sofa, a couple of hairpins on the coffee table, and the stray teacup with cold tea that had been forgotten about.
For a brief moment, as he cleaned up, he wondered if their children would be just as messy. Alfie could imagine coming home to the floor littered with toys. It brought a smile to his face.
Of course, children was still a conversation they had to have. Alfie loathed the fact that they had to get over that little mountain of a decision. He wouldn’t dare force anything onto her. Purely by his own standards and morals. Plus, the added benefit of getting a bullet in his head courtesy of the Shelby boys.
So, he waited and hoped that was something they could get to. Because, despite their relationship still being merely two people who lived together, he did like her. More so, even.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The wedding, although very traditional in the ritual sense, was very small. Only a few people very close to Alfie attended if only to witness the union. There wasn’t a reception or party to follow. No grand affair.
They simply walked out of the building as man and wife.
“Alfie, can I ask you something?”
“’Course.” It was a bit strange. Eliza was standing in the foyer as he went to go feed Cyril. Standing in her wedding dress, she looked a bit out of place.
“I know what is…expected of us tonight.” She wrung her hands together. “But I don’t think I’m quite ready. I’m sorry I just…”
Alfie felt oddly relieved. He was hoping she would say something, otherwise, he’d feel like a monster if she went through with consummating the marriage and she wasn’t ready. “No reason to apologize, love.” He walked back out of the kitchen, shrugging off his jacket. “Ain’t any rush.”
“I appreciate that.” She said softly. “Thank you.”
“So…I’ll see you tomorrow then? I’ve got to work early.”
“I’ll make breakfast.” She offered.
“Nah, that’s alright. You don’t need to get up so early.”
“I don’t mind…”
“S’alright, love.” He gave her a warm smile and held out an arm, allowing her to go upstairs first.
Eliza smiled back, feeling her cheeks warm a bit. She went upstairs, allowing Cyril to trot by her.
“I had a few things shipped in from Paris. Sorta wedding gift, if you will. I hope you don’t mind, I asked Ruth if she could help me.” Alfie said as he climbed the stairs behind her. “I left it on your bed.”
“Oh, Alfie, you didn’t need to-”
“S’alright.” He assured her, meeting her at the top of the stairs. “You Shelbys like nice things, aye?”
She shrugged. “I’m a Solomons now.” She pointed out.
He let out a brief chuckle. “Yeah, that’s true. F’ya want, we can get a nice box for your dress. Maybe to store it? I dunno, me mum did the same thing. I still have her dress, fuck if I know what I’m gonna do with it. But she-well it were the only thing she brought from Russia.”
“I understand, it’s important to you.” Eliza agreed.
Alfie rubbed a hand over his beard. “Yeah. Yeah, it is. Well, I won’t keep you up.”
“Goodnight, Alfie.” She smiled at him before going down the hall to her room. Like he said, there was a large box on her bed. After shutting the door, Eliza opened the top and found an array of beautiful pieces of clothing that must’ve cost a fortune. Beaded gowns, satin gloves, a fur-lined coat, and much more. Eliza carefully unpacked everything, folding the items or hanging them up in the closet. Then she landed on a pair of silk pajamas that looked like what picture stars wore. A gorgeous burgundy color with embroidered designs on the cuffs of the shirt and pants.
She smiled and felt her heart skip a beat. It had been a little unnerving knowing that she would become a Jewish wife. There were a lot of changes she had to make, moving to Camden, marrying Alfie, and trying to keep her end of the bargain by converting. But in the end, she was still married to a gangster. One who, although he looked simply, did like luxury items. And maybe it was how he was trying to show his affection for her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Married life wasn’t all that different for Alfie. He continued to work the same tireless hours and continued to keep up his agenda of legal and illegal operations. Mostly illegal.
What changed was coming home to a gentle person who had a good skill of keeping the flat calm. Alfie assumed that like the other Shelbys, Eliza would manage to only raise his blood pressure. But she had the opposite effect.
She had become more of an open book with him, which led Alfie to believe they were moving in the right direction. She told him more about what she did during the day. Mainly, she spent her time with Ruth and some of the other women in the neighborhood.
It was nice to hear things that weren’t related to business. Alfie’s entire life was business. Now he had someone else to occupy his thoughts.
As the weeks wore on, both Eliza and Alfie began talking on a more intimate level. Soon she found she was telling him things not even her siblings knew. Things that were very personal to her.
She also began to notice Alfie stealing a few looks her way. Meanwhile, she found herself looking forward to seeing him every day and often was disappointed if he worked late and she fell asleep before he came home. Her heart skipped a beat when he smiled at her or called her pet names. She figured it was just instinct, something he did to everyone. But it felt special to her.
Eliza realized, when winter came, that there was no reason for her sheepishness. They were married, after all. If she wanted to further their relationship, all she had to do was ask.
So, she did. One night, Alfie came home late from work. He picked at some leftovers waiting for him, before heading upstairs. His hip was bothering him as the days got colder, so he wasn’t in a grand mood. When he reached the second floor, the door to Eliza’s room opened.
“Sorry, love, didn’t mean to wake you.”
“You didn’t, I was waiting for you to get home.” She lingered in the doorway for a moment. “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you come in, I would’ve kept you company while you ate.”
“S’alright, didn’t eat much.” He shrugged. “There something you needed?”
“Well, yes.” She walked into the hallway. It felt a little silly asking her husband what she was going to ask. So, Eliza gained some of that Shelby confidence and looked him in the eye. “Will you kiss me?”
It certainly wasn’t what Alfie expected. He thought maybe she wanted to use the car or needed some spending cash. So, he felt a little bad that he was silent for so long, but he didn’t know what to say. “Erm, I didn’t-well-”
Eliza began to clam up, fearing she had overstepped a line. Maybe it was all in her head and Alfie didn’t really like her all that much. “Sorry, I shouldn’t’ve asked…”
Alfie caught her hand before she could scurry back to her room. He drew her closer and his other hand cupped her cheek. His eyes searched her face before he kissed her, trying to get a mental image of her locked in his head. The tiny bit of freckles on her face, the wintery blue eyes looking up, yearning, and the way her lips parted slightly. He would catalog the little bits of information away because he couldn’t imagine how this would last long. Nothing good in life ever lasted long and Eliza was one of the best damn things that ever happened to him.
That night, Eliza slept in Alfie’s room for the first time. It was how she came to the realization that her husband was just a big bear. Grumpy, stubborn, yet he cared for his own. Eliza liked that. She had grown up around bristly love. Polly marched them to mass every Sunday no matter how much they complained because she wanted to ‘save their souls’. Arthur would gladly murder any boy who gave her even the slightest of looks. Tommy was stern but she found out later it was because they had no father figure so he had to take on the role. And John? Well, John pretended to hate his twin sister. He wanted to appear tough in front of his friends and teased her at school. But every night, when there was no available light to read, he conjured up a story for her.
Other people may not have understood, but Eliza knew that real relationships couldn’t be found in the pages of her books. She liked Alfie because he was real. The most real thing she’d ever known.
After that night, their relationship bloomed much faster. They found married life soothing when others found it stressful. They enjoyed each other’s company so much that Alfie started to cut back on late nights at the bakery. It meant more to Eliza than he might have realized.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the situation with the Italians got more intense, Alfie started to realize how much their relationship had grown. He found himself contacting Tommy more often, demanding information about what Luca Changretta was doing. He wanted to ensure there would be no threat to his London empire and there would be no threat to his wife.
His anxiety about everything reached a boiling point when Eliza disappeared one morning. Had he looked in his study, he would’ve seen the note she left for him saying that she was taking the car to visit her family in Small Heath.
But he didn’t. So, he naturally assumed something bad happened and rallied a search team. He was at his wit's end, practically tearing his hair out.
When Eliza arrived home, unharmed and acting normally, he lost his cool.
“Where the fuck have you been?” He demanded when she walked through the door as if nothing had happened.
Eliza looked taken aback. He’d never taken such a harsh tone with her. “Pardon?”
“I’ve half me men out looking for you, you think it’s alright to just disappear like that?”
“Alfie, I left you a fucking note on your desk.” She snapped, not happy he was talking to her in such a way. He usually was very respectful.
He looked a bit hesitant, maybe he had neglected to see the note. But he was still too upset to admit he was in the wrong. “You could’ve told me, aye? Where were you?”
“What does it matter?” She asked defensively, trying to pass by him in the hallway.
“Because there’s a man out there who wants to wipe out your entire family, Liz!” He snapped, standing in her way so she couldn’t shrug off his concern.
“You don’t think I know that?”
“You have no idea where he could be or what he could’ve done to you!”
“I was in Small Heath, I was perfectly okay.” She retorted. “I have the right to go where I please.”
“Small Heath?” Alfie looked at her in disbelief. To think she could go that far and think she would be fine on her own. “Are you fucking kidding me?”
“Do not take that tone with me!” She held strong against him. “If I want to see my family, I can. You can’t keep me locked up in Camden.”
“That ain’t…” He let out a frustrated noise. The last thing he wanted to do was make her feel trapped. “I don’t understand why you just up and left. What did you need to do there?”
“That’s my business.”
“Liz-”
“You don’t control me, Alfie.”
“I know!” He shouted. “You don’t think I know that? But I care too much about you to let you be killed because of what your fucking brother has gotten your family into!”
Eliza’s lower lip wobbled and she crossed her arms over her chest. “I went because I was late. My aunt confirmed it, I’m pregnant.”
Alfie was knocked right in the gut by the news. What he thought would never happen was now a reality. “Liz…”
“Just fuck off.” She spat and turned to head upstairs. But she paused halfway. “I was so excited to tell you and this is how I’m treated? You can sleep on the couch.” She stomped upstairs and slammed the door shut before locking it.
Alfie felt like an absolute imbecile. He was notorious for letting his temper get the better of him. But he was proud of himself for never letting Eliza see that side of him. Now he had mucked up what they’d been building for months.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eliza didn’t come down for dinner or breakfast the next day. Alfie decided to try and speak with her before he went to the bakery for the day.
His first knock was met with silence.
“Eliza, please, just let me apologize.” He said as he knocked again.
“Go to hell, Alfie.” She finally replied.
He scrubbed a hand over his face. “Love, I’m tryna apologize, here!” He exclaimed. “What else do you want me to do?”
There was another bout of silence before the door swung open. “You think an apology is some grandiose gesture?” She demanded. “Alfie, I’ve walked across hot coals for you and you don’t even realize.”
“M’tryna…I don’t know what you want me to say.” He grimaced, realizing how shit he was at relationships sometimes.
“I went to Small Heath and you know what Ada said to me? She asked me about my headscarf. She said it was oppressive and I never should’ve converted for you. She said you would never be able to do anything that comes close to what I’ve done for you. Do you want to know what I said?”
Alfie nodded.
“I said she was wrong. I told her that you treated me right. You respected me. You were there for me and appreciated the person I was. I converted for you, I married you, and now I’m going to give you a child. So, don’t act like you have this authority over me when I’ve done so much for you.”
He sighed. “You’re right, love. It were wrong for me to treat you like that.” He acknowledged in a rare event of humility. “But me worst fear is losing you. ‘Cause you’re the only thing on this Earth that means a damn to me. If I lost you if that fucker killed you? I’d never forgive myself. I would spend the rest of me days mourning.”
Eliza’s tense stance relaxed a bit when she heard the genuine concern in his voice. His anger was out of fear.
