he’d never admit it, but rin would want a partner who can take him down a few notches. someone to calm his nerves and balance out his animosity. he can come to you at the end of every match and immediately release all tension and frustration. but also, someone to ground him and his ego a bit off the field. someone who can remind him to take things slowly and relax when he can and should.

he’s secretly very attracted to kindness. it’s a weird thing to be secretive about but rin is a weird guy what can i say. it makes his heart flutter to see you treating others with such grace, it even tugs a small smile at the corners of his lips which he quickly tries to pull back down into his usual blank expression.

rin tends to be a more private person himself, and he likes others that can keep their peace in that same way. he wouldn’t want to tell the whole world about your relationship, not because he wants to keep you a secret, but because he feels like you’re relationship is even more special the more it exists only to serve the two of you. he likes the idea of having you all to himself.

as a runner up for sassiest man of the year (lost to kaiser lol), oliver tends to find that same snappiness attractive in other people as well. he loves someone who can speak their mind and be confident about it, someone who can stand their ground and not let themselves be belittled. he thinks it’s hot, sexy even.

he likes people that are more outgoing then he is. while oliver doesn’t usually shy away from any fun, he can tend to back out of things because he feels it may be “too much” or an over exertion. he wants someone who can push him out of his comfort zone and get him to try new things that he wouldn’t have otherwise done on his own.

out of the whole cast, oliver is probably one of the most comfortable in his own masculinity methinks. he loves doing self-care and other beautification rituals (lol) with you! would let you do his eyebrows, dye his hair, make him smell like a strawberry shortcake; he fucking loves it. “Can’t turn down a bit of TLC and relaxation” he’d say. he totally does call a lot of it “goop” and “slime” or “sticky stuff” and can only remember to categorize it by color. “Babe, come feel my face, that pink goopy stuff made it so soft.~”

similar to mr. aiku, kaiser also loves a bit of sass in his partners, in a more subtle way though. sarcasm and brutally honest humor make him wanna bark like a dog. he loves it. he’s like the girl in a romance manga that falls in love with the cold and stoic upperclassmen. wants to break your hard exterior, but also wants to be the only person who ever could.

he loves being on the receiving end of ‘acts of service’. if that’s your love language, he’s all for it. he already thanks you just for putting up with him on a daily basis - considers that an act of service lol. making him food or planning a date for him would make his heart swell to the point of explosion.

physical and emotional intimacy need to be a huge priority for him. similarly to how rin likes things to just be between him and his partner, kaiser also needs certain things to be private, though he's more than happy to let the whole world know you're the person he loves. as long as he gets to have those quiet tender moments with you, wrapped in each others arms, he's a happy boy.

Happy sort-of, possibly still Friday!

Writing has been going well, both Infinite Stars and the sealed-with-a-kiss jam entry. Most of my time this week has been focused on Infinite Stars, but with the jam deadline coming up next week, I'll shift some of my focus towards that. Our newest two writers have also started working on their respective projects (Project Syndicate and Draegan Herald, both of which have not been receiving the TLC they demand until now), so we'll have some more updates soon.

I also realised that an Infinite Stars release might be sooner than later due to how the story is structured. It was taking longer than usual, and looking into it, we've kind of 'over' written. We had planned a release point, and somehow, we overshot it. That means the original planned content is about 4/5ths done, AND the next release after that is also 2/3rds done. Usually, I would say meh, we're so close we might as well wrap up the entire episode, but it's been a while since the last release, so I'd rather return to the original planned release and then have a shorter dev cycle for the release after the next one to finish Episode IV.

I also have some fun artwork to share for sealed-with-a-kiss! We swapped some sprites around, and I can now show you the final version of the Captain! (The image in the header!)

The other crew members for the game are all done, and we even have our first-ever CG scene. I'm not a huge fan of CG scenes (I prefer theatre of the mind), but it's mandatory to qualify for the jam.

On the personal side, my partner is travelling overseas for work, and we're saying goodbye to each other this Sunday. It's only for a week, but it will feel like forever. It's the longest we've been apart in 10 years. I'll also be solo parenting for our little one during that time. I dread their inevitable tears from not understanding where my partner is, but we'll get through it.

On a more positive note, 2025 has started off great. I've been getting more work done (day job and Infinite Stars), and I feel pretty good and hopeful inside my bubble despite all the changes and uncertainty in the world right now.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, Patreon has been nagging me that I need to update our tier rewards and pricing, as we haven't done so in nearly 4 years. I'm working on that. I'm planning to introduce the new pricing structure (and tier rewards) from 1 March 2025. I hate inflation; I hate paying more for my basic necessities than I did last week or the week before that. I hate having to increase prices and being part of the problem, but the reality is I have to. We'll add a new tip tier at the same price as our current 'ensign' membership. Most tiers will see a $2-$3 increase, which is quite high (percentage-wise) on the lowest tiers and quite low (percentage-wise) on the higher tiers, especially if you divide it by 4 years to get the average annual increase, which we haven't done for the past 4 years, and I hope not to do again for at least another few years. It also means that you'll be seeing a short reminder about this every week until the increase does happen, as I don't want to blindside anyone.

3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 + Noctua NF-A4x10 fan = overclocking

Or at least, it'll run a little cooler and hopefully add a few more years to the old girls life.

It's not that I need to overclock an old video card when I can easily use a newer card if I'd like more performance. It's more that by enhancing the cooling and seeing how much more performance is hidden in the device takes me back to my younger years when it became a way to saving a good chunk of money by investing in a cheaper CPU or video card and then squeezing out more FPS through some TLC.

The Voodoo 3 range runs pretty hot by default and don't feature any active cooling. So back in the day it was fairly common for people to slap on a fan in a basic way in order to try and cool down the card a little.

The Voodoo 3 2000 ran at 143Mhz (GPU & RAM) by default which typically gave it quite a lot of headroom for speeding up. Where as the Voodoo 3 3000 running at 166MHz was normally running close to it's limit. Those with a Voodoo 3 3500 were already at 183MHz and would be unlikely to squeeze much more out.

From research it seems that typically it's the memory on the cards that give out before the GPU. With memory chips being used with speed ratings ranging from 6ns, 5.5ns to even some 5ns. Those with lower ratings having more headroom to run at higher speeds.

So what could I get some my card? First up, let's attach that fan

The stock 3000 heatsink features two little holes at opposite ends which I thought would be perfect to looping a cable tie through. The first one went in without too much difficulty.

Unfortunately with the second I just couldn't squeeze the damn thing through. After much frustration I instead put a screw through the fan and used some pliers to squash the metal of the heatsink onto the thread of the screw.

Not as elegant as I would have liked, but it's held in place securely enough for my needs.

Once in the Pentium III mainboard it fits in nicely and thankfully doesn't hit the PCI header next to the AGP slot (Of course I checked this prior to securing the fan...)

So after all that, how much more performance does this card have to give?

I turned to Unreal, as it was already installed and felt like a suitable game for the era of the hardware and ran a timedemo at 1024x768 and 1280x1024 resolutions

An extra 14MHz gives an additional 6.5% performance at 1024 with a higher 1280 resolution giving a higher 9% uplift. Not earth shattering, but certainly a nice little bonus.

Unfortunately if I pushed the card any further Unreal would get a little psychedelic
