GUN's decryption unit has presence in Soleanna, with the head of the unit, Frances, seeking to enlist local analysts in the military. After stating the "thinking work" is probably not Shadow's cup of tea given his apparent disposition for action-heavy missions, Shadow desires to "prove her wrong" by applying for the division.
After successfully completing the logic puzzles that follow, Frances begs for Shadow to join her team as with the tests results she estimates his IQ to be "about 200."
Tumblr media
In another town mission, a mathematician named Alfano claims to have "a higher IQ than the famous Einstein" and regards Shadow as someone who's "always using muscle, and not enough brain." When Shadow completes his set of mathematics puzzles, Alfano becomes surprised and admits Shadow's brain is shockingly impressive. This makes sense, as scholarly sources tend to estimate Einstein's IQ as ranging between 140-160 (though he never took an official test, despite having been alive during their standardization). This humorously creates a range in which Shadow's IQ could be even higher than Alfano's, assuming Alfano's IQ is not many deviations higher than the high-average for Einstein.
Tumblr media
Despite a proven accuracy on an individual level with low variance even in decade long control groups, IQ is often questioned as a quantifiable measure of "general intelligence." It is a score meant to measure relative understanding of academia and not definitive understanding, and does not measure broader forms of intelligence such as sociability and adaptiveness to a shifting median—things Shadow has been shown to struggle with, an example being his often portrayed lack of proficiency with modern computers (as in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog and, to a lesser extent, Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)). That said, estimated proficiency in academia is regularly proven accurate based on IQ scoring above the median curve.
Shadow's IQ is over 6.5 deviations above the mean—a category often unnamed due to its rarity (though categorization is, again, often broad and inaccurate), and being within the 0.03 percentile (meaning Shadow's IQ range would be shared only by an estimated 2.4 million people on Earth). Worth noting is that—despite what could be assumed—medical studies show past instances of isolated memory loss don't affect a person's intelligence, general knowledge, awareness or attention span, but on occasion PTSD has been shown to cause decline in those categories listed (with no evidence of variability by the severity of trauma experienced).
The number for graduates specifically is difficult to find from scholarly sources, but students pursuing a PhD have an average IQ of 125. That said, and again, Shadow would still likely lack the general skills required to acquire such a degree in modern society.

“You aren’t crazy for simply having big mathematical ideas”
Well, after months of calling myself crazy, months of nearly begging others to commit me to a psychiatric ward, I got my answer…
There is a neuropsychologist in my hometown who’s known for her work with adolescents. She evaluated me twice: first in middle school, for autism, and again for ADHD as new 18-year-old “adult.” I knew another evaluation was out of the question, both financially and functionally — I’ve had five over my lifetime, and know every trick of the trade at this point.
Nonetheless, I reached out to inquire about the numerical aspects of my reports, and she offered a quick meeting at the start of the new year. The answer I got felt like a stab in the gut:
“You’ve always tested as an extremely gifted individual, but I worry that your self-image is blocking you from success… why can’t you simply accept this?
Sure, I’d scored in the range >95% for numerous visual and verbal reasoning tests, but my depression and anxiety ratings were just as high…
Plus, many view IQ as a faulty metric, and focusing on it seems to do more harm than good. Even if IQ was reliable, I know mine, and I’m not in the range people call “gifted.”
I started to ask her about this discrepancy, and she replied before I could even get everything—
“I didn’t need to give you one of those the second time around; your behavior presents clearly enough, and your conditions prevent you from testing reliably anyways.”
We talked a bit more, and she offered to answer any questions that might come up over email. This should be good news, but a part of me just wished she told me I was delusional instead…
She told me to accept my brain, to stop calling myself “dumb” all the time, but I’m terrified by the implications of accepting her words.
I already experience difficulty relating to others around me, but not in the sense that is riddled with superiority; connecting with others is disjoint from “intelligence,” and people who don’t try have their own issue with arrogance.
However, I find that it’s hard to have no one understand what this feels like. I simply try to share an idea for causal mathematical chatter, and people stare at me like they’ve seen a ghost. My mind is constantly racing with these ideas, and don’t get me wrong… I’m grateful, but I’d be lying to say it isn’t exhausting.
Most importantly, my brain doesn’t make me some “genius mathematician inherently.” Math is one of the few remaining honest professions; there is no way to “cheat your way to the top.” The quality of my proofs show a hilariously developmentally-appropriate level of sophistication!
If anything, I’m terrified of following my ideas to closely and becoming a crank. I’m terrified of becoming arrogant and harmful like my father and so many “savants” out in the world. I simply want a community where I feel at home, and someone to call a mentor at the end of it all.
I wish there were a person out there who, rather than necessarily “fixing” my story, could tell me their own. I’ve found great comfort in reading the stories of older eccentric mathematicians.
In the end, I just want someone who treats my experiences normally, who observes my flaws just as equally as everything else, but all this could be wishful thinking…

Note
For T/F: for some reason I assume that you’ve probably had some experience (either of yourself or maybe people around you) of falling into the “gifted” category, and I feel like there’s probably some strong opinions on that maybe?
True!
~
This one is true in a complicated way.
As a child, no one thought I was gifted until I got into school. I was hyperlexic, reading at a level far beyond my age-range (I read Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species at the age of 8/9, sitting on the library floor with the dictionary next to me so I could flick to different words and understand what they meant).
I was tested for giftedness/IQ but failed every test pretty spectacularly (we didn't know how many learning developmental disorders I had at the time, but it was a lot, and these tests in the 80s didn't favour any child with dyscalculia or severe dyspraxia, or ADHD / Autism for that matter). So everyone kind of officially knew I was pretty stupid, and the librarian was like 'what the fuck' while I quietly went through as many nonfiction books as I could because I found the fiction section mostly very boring.
Recently (like literally a month ago) when I was diagnosed with L2 Autism, I was also diagnosed with 2E, which is Twice Exceptional - or 'gifted but developmentally disabled.' It's a nice way of saying 'oh you're exceptionally smart (at certain things) and you're exceptionally special needs.' This also explains why I tested the way I did as a child, and kind of recontextualised a lot of things in my life, but I had to wait until I was 43 to learn that about myself, and until then I've always viewed myself as someone who was very stupid, but very good at pretending I wasn't simply because I could memorise things / facts I'd read in nonfiction, and I've been reading it since childhood. It's probably going to take a long time to think of myself as intelligent at anything other than words and reading.
So no, I wasn't raised as a 'gifted' child. I was raised as a semi-stupid child who read too many books. My sister tested as gifted and went into academic programs (and that definitely created some issues for her!) and I didn't, and started spectacularly failing maths in high school, which tracks for my level of dyscalculia.
It wasn't until university that I realised I could be clever at things, but again, I still credited that to 'I read well because I've been doing it a long time, and anyone - except for someone with dyslexia - could do this, this easily, and someone with dyslexia could still do this with the right supports.'
So I do have experience of falling into the 'gifted' category, but only for the last four weeks. It's also come with the diagnosis of L2 Autism, so mostly I'm just reminded at how fucking incompetent I am at generally being alive and functioning in a society.

there are sometimes who is strange in all the side-information that we have about TPN.
In a interview, the author told that Grandma was the one to choose the names of the babies.
But in a bonus comic, Isabella tells Ray, Emma and Norman how she choose their name.
So either she lied...
Either that's a incoherence.
Either Grandma didn't name the kids who were going to Isabella to let her "daugther" names them as she want.
....either Grandma had given other names to kids who were going to the Grace Field House 3 an Isabella deliberally changed the names in a way to say "f*** you" to her former guardian (since the demons didn't care about the names) and claim the kids as her own. Carol is the only one to not have had a change of name because of Krone presence.
I don't know why but the last idea is hilarous to me ^^"
I default to the bonus comic being the most accurate to simultaneously keep any sisters in HQ from potentially getting attached to the infants by giving them official names and to make the moms more endeared and caring toward the children they named themselves (for reference for anyone who hasn't seen it; a reward for scoring high on the official site's IQ test:)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Reprinted in The Promised Neverland Art Book World; one of the few times we get to see them with their short sleeves for warmer weather.)
Unless Shirai meant Sarah named them literally right before handing them off to the moms in the plants, but I don't believe she'd care enough then or at any point after becoming Grandma.
That last one is funny though dlkfjsd
Tumblr media
The little petty ways you get back at your mom when you're both victims and perpetrators of a violent system.
But you're right; Shirai's said some conflicting things over the course of the series' run that I think come from being run ragged by a hellish production schedule and a work just naturally evolving as opposed to being antagonistically contrarian to spite fans he views as obnoxious.
The other two that readily come to mind are Shirai saying the series could range anywhere from 10 to 30 volumes long…

…before his health took a nosedive and saying it was always going to be 20 volumes at most, with him wanting to maintain his sense of artistic integrity by completing the series on his own terms (the similarities between this and the way Yoshihiro Togashi ended Yu Yu Hakusho, one of TPN's biggest inspirations, is sadly staggering).

And him (and Sugita) being purposely mum about how he felt about Noremma when speaking with Cloverworks staff during the production of season 1 in 2018 compared to what he mentioned to Kendo Kobayashi in an earlier January 2018 interview, assuming he ultimately wanted to leave it up to the audience's interpretation rather than imposing his own (Demizu notably interprets all the relationships in the series as platonic).

I've said this before, but I took the SAT back in 2015 or 2016. So this is back when the tests were scored out of 2400 points instead of 1600. My high school offered a test prep class, which I took I although did not pay much attention (I was a bad student in HS). The class offered two practice exams, which simulated the conditions of the actual SAT and used actual old tests. As far as I can recall, the exam experience felt pretty much exactly the same as when I took the actual test. These practice exams were offered two weeks apart, and then the next week I took the actual SAT.
From the first practice exam to the actual SAT, my score rose by 500 or 600 points, from around the 50th percentile on the initial practice exam to considerably above it on the actual SAT. I don't remember the exact numbers but it was in the range of ~1600 -> ~2200.
Hard to say why this was. I've talked about this before, but went to a small K-12 progressive school that didn't do standardized testing. In fact, we didn't even receive grades until high school. In general I liked this experience, and consider it instrumental in my intellectual development—my only complaint really was the small size; there were a lot of classes the school didn't teach and a lot of social opportunities I didn't have, because there just weren't many people. Structurally, though, I liked it a lot. Anyway, the upshot was that before the SAT, I could count on one hand the number of tests I'd taken in my entire life, and none of them had had a strict time limit. So just the idea of sitting down and taking a multi-hour test under such strict conditions was stressful and disorienting to me at first blush.
I don't know if this is the reason my scores changed so drastically, but I suspect that it is.
This is obviously just an anecdote and not data. But I can't say that it doesn't at least somewhat inform my perspective on debates about IQ and so on.

Dropping the official teams for the first Konoha 12 come back mission. As a treat <3
Context:
The kunoichis of the Konoha 12 are back, but after so many years of working for Tsunade or spending time perfecting their clan techniques, they have to prove themselves.
The operation belongs to Konoha Police Force and is directed by Fugaku Uchiha. Since the whole goal is to prove that a) the kunoichis are capable of holding their on and b) they are loyal to Konoha, Tsunade can watch, but she cannot participate in any way.
Fugaku decided to separate the girls from their genins teams to truly test them.
Mission Status:
Konoha Police located a rogue nin base that they have been following for quite some time. The orders are to get in, neutralize the enemy, contain the situation, rescue any hostages and get out without casualties.
The Teams :
INFILTRATION TEAM — Kiba, Ino, Shino.
They're the first step. The "previously".
This team is full of deemed specialists in what one could call espionage. Be it shapeshifting, mind control or remote control of elements able to transfer information, they know how to get in, blend in, find the information they are looking for and get out as if they were never there to begin with.
Since they work mostly alone, they're some of the most in danger. There's also a myriad of unpleasant situations they'd have to participate in. Long range is preferable, either that or the type of subtle technique that can be used up close and leaves no evidence.
Unlike many other infiltration teams, this one focuses on details that no many would pick up on. Sound, smell, even your mind. No one is safe with them around.
EXTERNAL TEAM — Shikamaru, Tenten, Choji.
Once the infiltration team relies all the info they need, the external team sets in.
Their job is to prepare the operation so nothing would go wrong. They set a perimeter, fill the selected space with traps to avoid any enemy escaping, they lay the basics of the mission and connect everyone to the headquarters.
Although Fugaku is leading the operation, it's more of a supervision than anything else. The external team must control the scene with the parameters they were given.
Since they have to keep an eye on everything and everyone, there's often a specialist on every attack range (close combat, middle range and long range combat). They must be tricky and hard to evade, but also low-key enough that the enemy won't spot their exact location.
ATTACK TEAM — Sasuke, Hinata, Naruto.
They kick-start the real action!
( and cause everyone else a headache)
This team's job is to directly engage with the enemy, to both neutralize them and to provide a distraction for the retrieval team to act. They must be loud, they must be capable of being lethal, they must be capable of taking damage or at least capable of engaging for long periods of time.
In truth, the top requirement for anyone who wants to join an attack team is to be annoying and resilient. Attack teams don't really know what they'll find, for how long they'll have to fight or if the other teams would be available to give them any help.
Along with the unpredictability and endless energy of a jinchuuriki, the attention to detail and the battle IQ of an Uchiha, they have the high range vision and chakra blockage of a Hyuuga. Nothing screams Konoha like three of the best clans on the attack team.
RETRIEVAL TEAM — Neji, Sakura, Rock Lee.
The shifters. They can become any of the other teams if needed.
In a perfect scenario, they never engage with the enemy, follow the info provided by the infiltration team to get to the hostage, get the hostage out the place and into the protection perimeter set by the external team and repeat until everyone is safe.
In the real world, the retrieval team often fights their way to the hostage only to find one too many problems to fix at the second if they do want the hostage alive. They're the backup for every other team, they are the ones running in and out of the battlefield, as many times as it's needed. Although, while the hostage is alive and it's capable of being saved, they maintain their status and only the retrieval matters.
Long range is not really necessary, 'cause their mission is not to be noticed. They need to be fast as to not get caught and in case there's no way around it, close combat is a priority. They

I love the embrace quizzes! Think they’re very fun to take. But why are they specifically made for only a certain group of people?? Am I getting confused? Am I not getting something? Almost all their tests say this or say that they’re made for high IQ. I just take them for fun with friends but for some reason they still give me a bit of a ick.

so some fun tidbits about my diagnosis report yesterday, he said he gave me an iq test without telling me beforehand, and apparently i scored like. really high like i was close to being in the "superior" range for almost all topics, and one topic i did score superior. he said my visual spacial awareness is so high that i should consider going into engineering because i quote "could make a lot more money for a lot less work than [my] current job" and that i should really be treated for my adhd because i have "extreme potential"
so that was a real confidence booster. god literally had to nerf me because i would be too powerful

Iq tests on top of being useless for ‘intelligence’ testing are actually designed to test for aptitude for learning - literally just how good you can be at adapting and taking on new information, and you can see that in the questions. But it also only tests a very SMALL range of aptitude. If you have a really high aptitude for languages or art or music or design, it’s not going to tell you that. It ONLY tests for spacial awareness, relativity and general mathematics, and again, only if you MIGHT be good at LEARNING them - not how good you are currently, and doesn’t test for specific areas of mathematics. E.g. i’m VERY good at practical mathematics (probability and mechanics) but TERRIBLE at theoretical mathematics (algebra, calculus etc.) but this test would say i have a terrible aptitude for mathematics despite the fact that i have a GOOD aptitude for it.
E.g. i literally taught myself to read, so i very clearly have a REALLY high aptitude for English (past schooling does indeed reflect that) but this test wouldn’t even evaluate that.
That’s what the ‘intelligence quotient’ means. Overall it is a THOROUGHLY useless test that reddit bros took to be a measure of human worth and has been as is said in the post tied to racism (likely closely related to said reddit bros).
Also, the fact that most websites that offer the test require you to pay for the results but let you take the test free of charge? Should tip you off that it just isn’t a reliable test of intelligence, since any shred of common sense would tell you that a free website demanding money for the answers to a test freely available elsewhere isn’t going to give you a good deal.
I can't keep having the same conversations about love languages, mbti, iq, bmi, "brain fully formed at 25" and shit over and over again...

Breaking Down Successful Baseball Recruiting Videos
In the competitive world of college baseball recruitment, a standout Baseball Recruiting Video can mean the difference between being overlooked and landing a spot on a college roster. With hundreds of prospects vying for attention, student-athletes must craft highlight videos that grab coaches’ attention within the first few seconds. But what exactly makes a recruiting video successful?
This guide breaks down the essential elements that contribute to a high-quality Baseball Recruiting Video, with insights on how you can elevate your presentation to impress college coaches. Whether you're just starting your recruitment journey or refining your existing highlight reel, the following strategies—alongside expert tools like Sports Reelz—can help you create a polished and effective video.
1. Start with an Introduction That Matters
Your video should begin with a concise introduction that includes key information:
Name
Graduation year
Position(s)
Height and weight
School or club team
Contact info and/or recruiting profile link
This brief intro gives coaches the context they need before watching your performance. It sets a professional tone and ensures your video is associated with your identity from the start.
2. Lead with Your Best Clips
First impressions matter. Coaches often only watch the first 30–60 seconds of a Baseball Recruiting Video before deciding whether to continue. This means your best plays—ones that highlight your athleticism, baseball IQ, and game awareness—should appear right at the beginning. If you’re a pitcher, showcase your best strikeouts, velocity, or movement. If you’re a hitter, lead with extra-base hits or challenging pitches you turned into strong contact.
3. Position-Specific Skills Footage
Tailoring your video to your position is crucial. Here’s what to emphasize based on your role:
Pitchers: Include multiple angles of pitches, radar gun readings, and sequences showing command and consistency.
Catchers: Highlight receiving, framing, blocking, and pop times to second base.
Infielders/Outfielders: Display fielding mechanics, range, arm strength, and game awareness.
Hitters: Combine game footage with batting practice clips that showcase power, bat speed, and swing mechanics.
Sports Reelz, a platform that specializes in creating sports highlight reels, offers position-specific templates that can help you structure your video appropriately and professionally.
4. Use Clear and Consistent Camera Work
Poor video quality can ruin an otherwise strong performance. Ensure your footage is:
Shot in high-definition
Steady and not zoomed excessively
Captured from angles that show both the athlete’s movements and the field of play
For example, pitchers should be filmed from both behind the catcher and the side. Hitters should be shown from behind home plate and the side to capture swing mechanics. Consider using a tripod or enlisting a knowledgeable person to record your footage. Sports Reelz offers guidance and editing services to ensure your video meets coaches’ standards.
5. Keep It Short, Sharp, and Structured
Your Baseball Recruiting Video should be 3–5 minutes long—enough to showcase your skills without dragging. Overly long videos lose viewer interest. Use clean, logical transitions and avoid music, flashy effects, or excessive slow motion. Coaches are looking for substance over style.
Organize your clips in the following order:
Best highlights first
Position-specific drills or game situations
Conditioning, speed, or strength (optional)
Contact and academic info
6. Showcase Baseball IQ and Hustle
Physical skills are just part of the equation. Coaches also value baseball IQ, awareness, and attitude. Include clips where you make smart decisions, communicate with teammates, or hustle to back up plays. These subtle elements often set prospects apart.
7. Add Academic and Contact Information Clearly
Don’t forget to include a closing slide with your:
GPA and test scores
Coach’s contact information
Email address and phone number
Link to your full recruiting profile
This slide should remain on screen for 5–10 seconds, giving coaches time to take down the details or pause for reference. Also, if you use Sports Reelz to create your video, they often offer templates that help ensure this section looks clean and professional.
8. Promote It at the Right Time
A great video won’t help you if it’s not seen. Once complete, send your Baseball Recruiting Video to college coaches via email or recruiting platforms. Personalize your message and make sure the subject line is clear. You can also share the video on social media and ask your high school or club coach to help circulate it.
If you're unsure when to send your video or how to follow up, don’t hesitate to Contact us at Sports Reelz—we offer personalized guidance for every stage of the recruitment process.
Conclusion: Quality, Clarity, and Content Matter
Creating a successful Baseball Recruiting Video isn’t about compiling random highlights; it’s about telling a story—one that reflects your athletic ability, game intelligence, and professionalism. By focusing on clear presentation, relevant footage, and smart editing, you significantly improve your chances of standing out to college coaches.
Tools like Sports Reelz can streamline the process, providing high-quality editing, structure, and support so you can focus on performing your best on the field. For more insights or to get started on your custom recruiting reel, don’t hesitate to Contact us today.

The reason IQ "researchers" can massage the data to make it appear that IQ is a valid measure of intelligence is because, at the lower and higher fringes of the score, it indeed has some predictive power: people with intellectual disabilities are generally going to experience more difficulty with the tasks the tests provide, and conversely those who consistently score exceptionally high are those exceptionally capable of these sorts of tasks. If you plot all this on a graph, it's easy to create the illusion that IQ represents some sort of ontologically independent measure. In truth, IQ has pretty much no predictive power in the average range; people who re-take the test consistently score differently enough to be statistically significant. All that these tests really reveal boils down to "people who are intellectually disabled perform more poorly on spatial and logical puzzles."
