Everyone is so creative when it comes to Charles using new pet names for Edwin so here’s my take!! (Since everyone’s just dying to know.💀💀)

One: “Mate”. It’s a classic and they both clearly value the title of being the others best mate/friend. I think they'd keep it even while dating because one title isn't more important than the other.

Two: “Love”. You guys are so right but I raise you “MY love”. These boys literally go “Oh yeah, this is MY best mate!” I feel like that “my” would carry onto romantic nicknames.

Three: “Angel”. Listen- LISTEN!!! Edwin went to Hell and I just think it would be so sweet for Charles to call him Angel. Like, do you get my vision?? Especially in softer moments or when Edwin’s in need of comfort or something.

Four: “Sweetheart”. In Edwardian times I’m pretty sure two people courting were called sweethearts, I feel like this one is used less seriously. Like flirting, or Charles using his charm to get what he wants, jokingly placating, etc.

Five: “Lamplight”. Started off as sunshine and devolved from there.

Now for Edwin because I’m going insane over dead gay boys.

One: “Beau”. It’s just so cute and kinda old-timey I dunno. You can’t tell me Charles wouldn’t preen if Edwin introduced him as his beau.

Two: “Dearest”. Either said in complete earnest or sarcastically. No in between.

Three: “Darling”. I feel like Edwin could use this one to comfort or flirt like, “I love you just the way you are, darling.” And Charles just never knows which one it is. Maybe it’s a little bit of both, maybe the flirting is accidental, who knows.

Four: “Mon petit chou”. It’s a fancy way to say sweetheart. Edwin would love a fancy way to call Charles sweetheart.

Five: “My Heart”. Because Edwin also needs a “my” pet name. Obviously.🙄🙄

okay obviously i love all the dbd fics that are like "edwin and charles's worst fear is the other one leaving/being taken away" and everything but where are the fics where edwin's worst fear is charles leaving him but charles's worst fear is hurting edwin and edwin staying anyway

I just want to acknowledge how well-crafted dead boy detectives is, in terms of how each shot is framed and colored. it's such a visually satisfying show, and as an artist i am feral about at least one frame in every single scene. i could go on for paragraphs about the execution of this but i'll just grab a few frames for examples, because. it's so good. (not super crisp images, sorry about that. best i can do with taking screenshots directly from netflix.)

this is obviously nowhere close to all of the frames i'm obsessed with, but it goes to show how much thought was clearly put into blocking and coloring!!! each scene has a color scheme or a theme, and the characters are very often dressed in a complementary way. (Maren's dark outfit, when we see her in episode 5, looks very good with her yellow and maroon front porch, for example.) there's a lot of orange/blue contrast, or brown/green, and altogether every scene has shadow and highlight, and isn't afraid of either one. (respect.)

it's just so refreshing to have such a gorgeous show to enjoy. everyone who worked on the framing and lighting in this show knew very well what they were doing, and I hope we get a second season so they can keep doing it!!!

just rewatched your name and cried my eyes out so fuck it, payneland your name au

edwin is of course in 1916, while charles is in 1989

they figure out they're in separate timelines much sooner, inevitably. probably even right away.

they are having a significantly harder time in each other's bodies than the movie characters.

you'd think edwin would have much more troubles getting used to charles' life and the, like, invention of the television and shit, but even tho charles knew some things about the start of the 20th century and had access to history books, he's adjusting rather poorly to the time's etiquettes

so edwin is talking posh and proper and charles' friends are making fun of him, and charles is embarrassing edwin at latin class because he doesn't know any. they start off pretty pissed at each other.

but soon enough, they both agree to just keep their mouths shut as much as possible during switches, and everyone around them just starts to shrug it off and accepts that every now and then they will be a bit weird

edwin is improving charles' grades and making teachers send him pleased looks; charles is talking back to simon and the other bullies, making them think edwin is a feral lunatic yes, but also resulting in them bothering him less

things go on like this until suddenly one day they stop switching. charles tries to search what could have happened and discover the disappearance of the 6 boys. he's heartbroken and doesn't know what to do. the time pass. he forgets edwin's name. he forgets what it is that he lost.

a few weeks later, his friends attack this kid from pakistan, and charles has been so weird these last months that they kinda lost patience for him. when he interrupts their fun, they don't let it slide.

when he's up in the attic shivering, edwin shows up. for him it's been 73 years, and he forgot charles a long long time ago.

neither of them recognizes the other, not consciously. but they both feel like they found something at that moment, something important that they cannot allow to lose again.

i can’t casually watch the first night nurse “IM A DEAD BOY DETECTIIIVE” scene (still have it memorised somehow tho) because it makes me so sad, and one of the main reasons is edwin’s reaction.

we see throughout the show that edwin’s fear response is freeze. he can’t snap into action, he just freezes. that’s why charles has to always be like “motherfucker move?? fuckin run??” and eventually just shoves him because he won’t do it otherwise. as much as i joke about him being a passenger princess and having the vibe of “i simply refuse to lift a finger to defend myself, i will stand here and look pretty”, it is fully a fear response.

so after saying charles’s name in the most heartbreaking terrified way possible, he just starts moving. he doesn’t even think about it—it’s automatic. it’s the most natural, instinctual thing in the world for him. where charles goes, he follows. ESPECIALLY when things seem like they’re going to go horribly, because he will under no circumstances let charles get into trouble alone. like HE IS FOLLOWING THE PERSON WITH THE POWER TO SEND HIM BACK TO HELL JUST BECAUSE HE CANT BE WITHOUT CHARLES I AM SO FUCKIGN UPSET RIGHT NOW DO YOY UNDERSTAND
