How App Developers Making Money From Free Apps
Tumblr media
I know that many times while using an app, you think about how the developer earns money from these apps, even if you are using them for free. Today in this post, I want to answer your question. I will cover every possible way in which they are earning money, and you can also make money this way. I have researched many websites on the internet and collected only the most impactful ways that will work for you.
Before thinking about earning money from an app, consider studying prediction in a particular domain, like app development or anything else. Like many authenticate organizations, research the business, analyze that raw data, and provide you with meaningful information. Do you know, according to Market Research, "the global mobile app development software market size is projected to grow from US$ 1421.4 million in 2023 to US$ 2436.6 million in 2030; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.0% from 2024 to 2030?"
This analysis comes from previous years of sales analysis. Users want to access services online that provide ease. It also provides user behaviour how users spend most of their time online. Now every online business can feel that it would be difficult to run a business if they were not online or on social media. They have to generate content online, such as videos on YouTube, informative guidance in blogs, and reels. They also need to run ads on search engines and social media to get more reach in a short period.
Here, we can clearly see the demand for users consuming or using online material. We have to fill these gaps with our work. That's why I told you earlier that you shouldn't think critically about earning; research your niche or category before starting. To explain to you easily How app developers make money from free apps? I will take a live example of a free app like Supercell's Clash Royale that is available on the Play Store or the App Store and is free to play. I will explain everything, including how they earned and made money worldwide from 2015 to 2023, from Statista.
How Supercell’s Clash Royale and Clash Of Clan Makes 359 million U.S. Dollars in 2023
Tumblr media
This is a very interesting and warlike game. It is for both paid and free users. You can also install and play.
In this Game can play with other players from around the world. Hit their archers and kind tower with your troops and win the crowns. Here's what you will see in this app :
Card-Based Combat: It has no control options like you have in racing cars or different action games. In Clash Royale, you will build a deck of different available troops, like
Wizard: This spellcaster launches fiery blasts that damage multiple enemies.
Valkyrie: This fierce warrior uses her axe to damage and slow down enemies.
Inferno Tower: Action: Melts enemies with an overheating beam.
youtube
Unique Deck Building: Include the strongest warrior from your choices so that you win all the fights. But make sure that your average cost of Elixir.
Real-Time Battles: You can also participate in real-time battles with other players worldwide. That's why I recommend you make a low-cost, strongest Elixir deck so that you can use your troops repeatedly and your opponent is unable to handle them.
Form Your Clan: You also have the option of battling with other clans.  A clan is a group of players in the same team. Attack other clan player teams to earn points and improve the authority of your clan.
Constant Evolution: Supercell knows that every game looks boring with the same UI and design for a longer time, so they continuously make new stories, and based on stories and ideas, they launch new cards and their actions. As we have seen, they are all offering good and engaging games free of charge. That tree needs to be upgraded with cards. but it required a lot of patience. You have to play regularly, and after winning the battle, you will be rewarded with a mystery box. When you open it, you will get cards, a gold coin, and other rewards. But if any player wants to quickly update his or her card, they have the option to buy the card deck. From there, they are earning from a free app. Hope you like to know this strategy
Other Ways To Make Money From Free Apps?
I think from the above example of Clash Royale, it is clear how app developers earn money from their apps. but it is not only the way they earn. In this section, I will cover some more possibilities of earning through the app. In this section, I will answer: How do free apps make money without ads?
In-App Purchases
Tumblr media
If you have an app that attracts traffic and users come to your app and use it daily for a longer period, then you can also list some products according to your app niche or customer interest. If your app is about clothing style, then you can also list some trending t-shirts, jeans, or particular outfits that look awesome, and some customers may purchase them from you because they have been using your app for longer periods and have trust in your app.
You should integrate your app with Google Analytics or any analytics so that you can analyze your user's behavior on your platform and make necessary improvements to enhance the user experience or increase the number of users on your site.
Freemium: Provide quality at no cost
Make something unique and demanded, and provide it to users free of charge. Then make an add-on as an extra feature. Some customers also want add-ons to enjoy extra features of your app, so they will buy these add-ons.
You can also provide them with an option like membership. If they become members, they do not have to pay add-on fees every time.
Affiliate Marketing
Tumblr media
Businesses love to promote their brands through affiliate marketers. If you have relevant traffic, visit an affiliate site like Amazon Affiliate or Click Bank or Commission and join their affiliate program. Here, you will get a find lot of brands that want affiliates to do their marketing.
After signing up to this platform you will get a unique tracking link. Add these links to your links so that visitors will click on them and visit their website, and if they purchase something, you will be rewarded for this traffic with commission on their commission.
Please note: Don't convert every visitor into a customer. If you aggressively advertise, put these affiliate links everywhere, or ask your users to buy these things, these may harm your visitor's experience, and they may leave your app or website forever. Never tease them. Try to solve user problems with different products and services, not force selling.
Can ads help you earn more money?
Yes, as we all know, SEO is a slow process, but when your site achieves organic traffic, that will give you an unthinkable profit. But before getting high organic traffic, you have to promote your brand through blog creators, YouTube content creators, paid ads like Google, Bing, and other relevant platforms according to your niche, and learn how to forget social media platforms in terms of awareness. Yes, I know you are thinking about the fact that these all require funding, like investment in ads, approaching content creators and asking them to promote your brand, etc.
Then I will say yes; these all require an initial investment, but later they will provide you with a better ROI (return on investment). Investment is required in every business. Suppose you want to drive an autorickshaw, then you need to buy an autorickshaw. If you want to sell food, then you have to invest in food raw materials, restaurants, etc. But later, you will earn from your business.
Ads will provide you with a fast result in comparison to SEO (organic results). It can bring more traffic to your app. So before investing in these things, I again request that you build an app that can engage internet users. If you have an idea, then well and good; otherwise, you can also discuss it with an iOS app development agency. They have developed many apps and also know customer demand; they will help you make good decisions.
Conclusion
I hope I was able to cover the complete topic and answer your question, "How does an app developer make money without ads with ads?" I have also suggested some other popular ways to make money from apps, including how to enhance your app traffic and improve the user experience so that you can retain your old users and add new ones. That may potentially increase your traffic and earnings.
Yeah, everything included in one blog would be difficult, and it may increase the blog's word count. Many users leave to read, so I have included only important things regarding the topic. If you want to learn more, please get in touch with us and ask us any questions. We would be happy to answer them and solve them.

Another AO3 app that's pretending to be official when it's not (or at least isn't making it clear its unofficial.) They're using AO3's name and logo, and embedding ads.
There is no official AO3 app
Someone else is gathering your data, potentially your log in information etc and making use of it how they please. (They say they're not but their privacy policy says otherwise)
They are making money from the ads without the fic writer's consent.
They've also rated it Pegi 3 (which is ludicrous)
Please, even if you care about nothing else, for the safety of your data, please don't use this app. Certainly don't give it your AO3 log in details.
I've told AO3 that it's infringing on its copyright. I will be requesting they remove access of my work as I do not consent to my creative content being used to generate ad revenue for them.
I will be reporting it as incorrectly rated.
The only email address I can find is [email protected] which is included in their privacy policy, and [email protected] as their developer.

Obey Me: The Unlikely Family
The first time Lucifer noticed it, he dismissed it as one of Mammon's typical money-making schemes. His second-born brother was sitting at the kitchen table with Simeon, Luke, and the newest exchange student, Raphael, all of them engaged in what appeared to be a serious conversation about something Lucifer couldn't quite overhear. Mammon was gesturing animatedly, his usual cocky demeanor replaced by something surprisingly gentle as he helped Luke with what looked like homework. When Lucifer walked closer, the conversation stopped abruptly, and Mammon's face flushed pink.
"Oi, Lucifer! We're just, uh, talkin' about... business stuff!" Mammon stammered, his tell-tale stutter indicating he was lying. But before Lucifer could interrogate him further, Simeon smiled that maddeningly calm smile of his and suggested they move their "study session" to Purgatory Hall. As they packed up their books, Lucifer noticed how naturally Mammon ruffled Luke's hair, and how the young angel didn't protest – something that would have been unthinkable months ago.
Over the following weeks, the pattern continued. Mammon would disappear for hours at a time, and when his brothers went looking for him, they'd find him at Purgatory Hall. Sometimes he'd be taste-testing Luke's latest baking experiments, offering surprisingly constructive feedback between bites. Other times, he'd be helping Simeon with technology, patiently explaining how to use various apps on his D.D.D. with none of his usual impatience. Most surprisingly of all, he'd developed an odd friendship with Raphael, the two of them often sitting in comfortable silence while Mammon rambled about his latest schemes and Raphael listened with what could almost be called attentiveness.
"It's weird," Levi complained during one of their family dinners, pushing his food around his plate. "Mammon's barely here anymore. He's always hanging out with the angels. What's so great about them anyway?" His voice carried a hint of envy that didn't go unnoticed by his brothers.
"Perhaps he's finally found beings foolish enough to fall for his get-rich-quick schemes," Satan suggested, though his tone lacked its usual bite. Even he seemed puzzled by this development.
Asmo, who had been unusually quiet, suddenly spoke up. "You know, I saw him yesterday teaching Luke how to paint his nails. They were giggling like schoolgirls." He paused, studying his own perfectly manicured nails. "Since when does Mammon giggle?"
Beel, who had been steadily working through his third helping of dinner, looked up thoughtfully. "He brought me some cookies yesterday. Said Luke made them but there were too many for the angels to finish alone." He smiled slightly. "They were really good. Luke's getting better at controlling the sweetness."
"That's another thing," Belphie added, not lifting his head from where it was pillowed on his arms. "He's been sharing things. Sharing. Mammon. Without being forced to."
The conversation died down, but the observation lingered. The Avatar of Greed, who typically hoarded everything from money to food to attention, was voluntarily sharing his time and energy with beings who had no material wealth to offer him in return.
The shift became even more apparent during the next student council meeting. When Diavolo announced a group project that would require cooperation between all exchange students, Mammon immediately volunteered to work with the angels. His brothers exchanged glances – since when did Mammon volunteer for extra work?
"Are you feeling alright, Mammon?" Lucifer asked, genuine concern creeping into his voice. "You're not... cursed, are you?"
"What? No! I just... they're not completely hopeless, alright?" Mammon's cheeks reddened. "Someone's gotta make sure they don't mess up the project. And Luke's actually pretty smart when he ain't bein' all prejudiced against demons."
"You... defended Luke?" Asmo blinked in surprise. "You called him smart?"
"So what if I did?" Mammon shot back, his voice rising defensively. "He is smart! And Simeon knows all sorts of stuff about history and literature and... and Raphael's actually pretty cool once you get past all that serious angel crap. They're..." He paused, struggling for words. "They're good people. Er, good angels. Whatever."
The room fell silent. Mammon had just admitted to caring about someone other than himself, and he'd done it without a single mention of money or personal gain.
It was Beel who finally broke the silence. "You really like them, don't you?"
Mammon's face went through several expressions before settling on embarrassed defiance. "Yeah, so what? They're... they're like family, alright? They don't judge me all the time or call me scum or hang me from the ceiling." He shot a pointed look at Lucifer. "They actually listen when I talk, and they don't assume I'm lyin' about everything."
"Family?" Levi's voice was small, almost hurt. "But... we're your family."
"Are you?" Mammon's voice was quiet now, but there was a sharp edge to it. "Because most of the time, it feels like I'm just the family screw-up that everyone tolerates. When's the last time any of you asked me how I was doin'? Or listened to one of my ideas without immediately shootin' it down? Or hung out with me because you actually wanted to, not because Lucifer ordered you to?"
The questions hung in the air like accusations. None of the brothers seemed to have an answer.
"Luke asks me about my day," Mammon continued, his voice getting stronger. "Every single time I see him. And he actually listens to the answer. Simeon remembers things I tell him about my modeling jobs and asks me how they went. Raphael... well, Raphael doesn't talk much, but he doesn't insult me either. He just... accepts me. They all do."
Satan leaned forward, his expression unreadable. "And you think they're better brothers than we are?"
"I think they treat me better than you guys do," Mammon admitted. "They don't see me as just the Avatar of Greed or the family failure. They see me as... as me. Mammon. Just Mammon."
The pain in his voice was evident, and for the first time, his brothers began to understand what they'd been missing. They'd been so focused on Mammon's flaws – his greed, his schemes, his lies – that they'd forgotten to see his strengths. His loyalty. His protective nature. His surprising gentleness when he thought no one was watching.
"Mammon..." Lucifer started, but his brother was already standing up.
"I'm gonna go help Luke with his baking," Mammon announced. "He's trying to make Michael's favorite cake, and he's been stressed about getting it right. Unlike some people, he actually appreciates my help."
As Mammon left the room, the remaining brothers sat in uncomfortable silence. It was Belphie who finally spoke up.
"He's right, you know. When's the last time we treated him like a real brother instead of just... a problem to be managed?"
"I call him stupid all the time," Levi admitted quietly. "But he's not stupid. He's actually really clever when he wants to be. And he's always the first one to jump in when we're in trouble."
"He took blame for me once," Belphie added. "When I broke that painting while I was half-asleep. He didn't even hesitate. Just stepped up and took Lucifer's punishment without a word."
"He's done that for all of us at some point," Asmo realized. "But we never really thanked him for it. We just... expected it."
Beel nodded slowly. "He always shares his food with me when I'm really hungry. Even when he doesn't have much himself."
"And he's the only one who can make me laugh when I'm in one of my moods," Satan admitted reluctantly. "He doesn't try to fix me or analyze me. He just... distracts me until I feel better."
All eyes turned to Lucifer, who had been silent throughout this exchange. The eldest brother looked tired, older than his thousands of years. "I've been too hard on him," he said finally. "I know I have. But he's always been so... resilient. I thought he could handle it. I thought he understood that my strictness came from caring." He paused. "But I never told him that. I never told him that I was proud of him."
"So what do we do now?" Asmo asked. "How do we fix this?"
"We can't fix it overnight," Lucifer said slowly. "But we can start by actually being the family he deserves. Starting now."
Meanwhile, at Purgatory Hall, Mammon was indeed helping Luke with his baking, his sleeves rolled up and flour dusting his usually pristine appearance. The young angel was stress-baking, worried about getting Michael's cake perfect, and Mammon was patiently helping him measure ingredients and adjust flavors.
"You know," Luke said as he carefully folded chocolate chips into the batter, "I never expected to become friends with a demon. Especially not you."
"Gee, thanks," Mammon replied dryly, but there was no heat in it. "You weren't exactly my favorite person either, little angel."
"But you're different than I thought you'd be," Luke continued. "You're... kind. And patient. And you actually care about people, even when they can't give you anything in return."
Mammon's hands stilled for a moment. "Yeah, well... don't spread that around, alright? I got a reputation to maintain."
Simeon, who had been quietly grading papers at the kitchen table, looked up with a gentle smile. "I think your reputation is exactly what it should be, Mammon. You're a good friend. A good brother."
"Even if you're not related by blood," Raphael added from his spot by the window, where he was mending a tear in one of Luke's shirts with careful, precise stitches. "Family isn't always about blood. Sometimes it's about who chooses to stand by you."
Mammon felt his chest tighten with emotion. These angels – these beings who had every reason to distrust and dislike him – had welcomed him into their little family without question. They'd seen past his sins, past his reputation, past his flaws, and found something worth caring about.
"You guys are..." he started, then stopped, struggling for words. "You're the best family I could've asked for."
"Even better than your brothers?" Luke asked innocently.
Mammon was quiet for a long moment. "Different," he said finally. "You guys are... you're the family I chose. And that makes you special in a different way."
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Simeon went to answer it, and returned with all six of Mammon's brothers in tow. They looked uncertain, almost nervous, which was unusual for them.
"Mammon," Lucifer said, his voice unusually gentle. "Could we... could we talk? All of us?"
Mammon looked suspicious. "If this is about me spending time here, I ain't gonna stop just because you don't like it."
"It's not about that," Beel said quickly. "It's about... us. About how we've been treating you."
"We've been terrible brothers," Levi admitted, his face flushed with embarrassment. "And we want to do better."
"We want to be the kind of family you deserve," Asmo added. "The kind that actually appreciates you."
"And we're sorry," Satan said quietly. "For making you feel like you had to look elsewhere for acceptance."
"We love you, Mammon," Belphie said simply. "We just... forgot to show it."
Mammon stared at them in shock. "You... what?"
"We love you," Lucifer repeated, his voice thick with emotion. "You're our brother. Our family. And we've been taking you for granted for far too long."
The room was silent except for the sound of Luke sniffling – the young angel was clearly moved by the emotional reunion. Simeon placed a gentle hand on Mammon's shoulder.
"Family isn't about choosing one over the other," he said softly. "It's about having enough love to go around. You don't have to choose between us and them."
"That's right," Raphael agreed, setting down his sewing. "We're not trying to replace your brothers. We're just... adding to your family."
Mammon looked around the room at all the faces watching him expectantly – his brothers, looking more vulnerable than he'd ever seen them, and the angels, who had shown him what unconditional acceptance felt like. His eyes were suspiciously bright.
"You... you really mean it?" he asked his brothers. "You're not just saying this because you're jealous?"
"We mean it," Lucifer said firmly. "And we're going to prove it. No more punishments for minor infractions. No more dismissing your ideas without consideration. No more calling you names or treating you like you're less than us."
"And we want to get to know your new family too," Beel added, looking at the angels. "If... if that's okay with you."
Luke beamed. "Of course it's okay! The more the merrier! Oh, and you have to try the cake when it's done. Mammon's been helping me perfect the recipe."
"Mammon helped you bake?" Asmo asked, surprised.
"He's actually really good at it," Luke said proudly. "He has a great sense of flavor balance."
"Well, I am pretty amazing," Mammon said, his cocky grin returning. But there was a warmth in his eyes that hadn't been there before. "Fine. But if we're gonna be one big happy family, there's gonna be some rules. No more hanging me from the ceiling, Lucifer. No more calling me stupid, Levi. And Satan, you gotta stop using me as target practice when you're angry."
"Deal," all three brothers said simultaneously.
"And," Mammon continued, getting bolder, "I want one day a week where we all hang out together. No phones, no work, just... family time. Here at Purgatory Hall, or at the House of Lamentation, doesn't matter. But we spend time together. Like a real family."
"I think that's a wonderful idea," Simeon said warmly. "Family dinners are important."
"Speaking of which," Luke said, checking his timer, "the cake should be done soon. Who wants to help me make the frosting?"
As all nine of them crowded into the kitchen, laughing and arguing good-naturedly about frosting flavors and decorating techniques, Mammon felt something he hadn't experienced in centuries: complete and total acceptance. He had his brothers, who were finally learning to show their love properly, and he had his angels, who had taught him what that love should feel like.
For the first time in his very long existence, Mammon felt like he had a real family. Not just one, but two, and they were all his.
Later that evening, as they all sat around the table sharing Luke's perfect cake, Mammon looked around at all the faces – demon and angel alike – and realized that sometimes the best families weren't the ones you were born into, but the ones you chose to build together. And sometimes, if you were really lucky, you got to have both.
"Hey," he said suddenly, raising his glass of juice. "To family. All kinds of family."
"To family," they all echoed, raising their glasses as well.
And in that moment, surrounded by the warmth of acceptance and love, Mammon knew he was exactly where he belonged.

For anyone who hates YouTube, the YT app and capitalism broadly, YouTube (the corp) has been waging a war on 3rd party apps to make sure their official app is the only way you can view YT content for a while.
If you're on a PC this isn't a problem but obviously we're not using our PCs all the time, especially when we're outside.
I'm sure if you've tried to open YT via your mobile browser you've noticed that the mobile version of the site is pretty dogshit. The options for video playback and playlists is limited. You can't shuffle your playlist, can't skip to the next song, can't loop a song and so on. This is intentional to, again, force you to use the official app. Where you have to either pay for premium or suffer through ads constantly.
In reply to this several people have developed their own YT clients that allow you to access the site's content without ads and without even needing to log in. Apps like NewPipe, Revanced, Incidious and so on. They offer a vastly better mobile experience, have all the options for video and playlist control you could want and are 100% free. Which means they undermine YT's business monopoly and no corpo scumbag would ever allow that.
For the last two weeks people using the 3rd party apps, myself included, have been experiencing problems with videos cutting out midway through and giving errors and as of yesterday the apps are unusable. Hopefully the people behind them figure out a solution and update them soon but I wanted to highlight YT's hostility towards all who reject their business model and their contempt for their users in general. They have a defacto monopoly as a platform. Sure, there are other platforms like it, but most of them are small and/or have a definite rightwing slant towards their content and moderation like Rumble. Not to say YT is any better but those are the platforms far right grifters champion.
Now you might say, well the ads are necessary cos that's how creators make money, to which I will point out that creators receive a fraction of the money each ad on their videos make. And unless you make the most boilerplate uncontroversial slop possible, there's every chance your video will get demonetized, which is the most capitalist realism kind of censorship I've ever seen. In truth creators make scraps which is why most of them have a Kofi or Patreon account where the bulk of their income actually comes from.
So yeah, tl;dr YT are scum, Google are scummer and Alphabet are the scummest. They don't deserve your money and if you want to support anyone, support individual creators through Patreon and the people who make free open source software that undermines YT.

Hey you 🫵
Thought you might need a reminder that another strike for Palestine begins today/tomorrow depending on where you are!!
Tumblr media
Rules from previous strikes still apply, and here are some notes from me:
- Only post about Palestine and other countries that need help (ex. Congo, Sudan)
- Only support posts about Palestine and other countries that need help (ex. See above)
- Attend protests/rallies if able to
- Boycott companies supporting Israel
(Here’s a good website for you:
and remember to also download ‘No Thanks’, an app that shows you what you can and cannot boycott.
*The app is still in development but is a great guide on what to boycott!)
- Support Palestinians financially in any way you can
(This link leads to Operation Olive Branch, it has a ton of Palestinian GoFundMe’s and tracks how close they are to being complete. Remember, every cent counts!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1vtMLLOzuc6GpkFySyVtKQOY2j-Vvg0UsChMCFst_WLA/htmlview?pli=1
Also, there are plenty of ways to help without contributing financially if you’re unable to, like this link:
The ad revenue goes to supporting Palestinian refugees without you spending a cent!)
- Petitions, petitions, petitions!!!
(Here’s one to get you started:
See all those signatures, everyone working together really does make an impact!)
- Spread Palestinian voices and awareness
(This link talks about Palestinian history, debunks myths, talks about ‘Rainbow Washing’ and shows you where to find even more information, happy reading!)
- Don’t fund the economy in any way, do your best not to spend money, make money and get out of school. (This one’s especially difficult, but it really makes a difference!)
And that’s all from me! Remember that everything you do counts, even if your just one person (Yes, i know i keep saying that, but you’d be surprised how many people want to give up just because of that!).
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!!

ok erm nintendy 2 predictions (may or may not be in the direct, just my general thoughts? i guess)
games/features:
mario kart launch title
n64 zelda remake for summer
new mario title for holiday
^3d mario
enhanced versions of ACNH, splat3, mario wonder, BOTW/TOTK, pikmin, metroid. these could take advantage of joycon mouse. ubi teased mario rabbids on switch 2 or something so maybe that gets an upgrade of some kind
weird new IP to demo the new hardware features
animal crossing announced before 2027, maybe aimed around that point but could always be delayed into 2027
splat4 announced 2026, release in 2027 i think (too early for splat4)
i think a splatoon spinoff is likely this gen but idk when. this year might be a good time as filler but i think they'd rather save resources to develop splat4
less focus on mobile and more on console. i feel like the mobile games were kinda cushion during the 3ds/wiiu era and after the success of the switch and the development of the switch 2 they feel like its not necessary (have all mobile games discontinued? not including like. pokemon ((which should always count as a separate thing)) and pikmin?). i thought i saw an article about them not abandoning mobile but idk if it was with apps or games or what. apps are definitely here to stay though i think
roblox will come at some point. it's gotta
another weird "99" type game or something of an old IP
in the direct: 3rd party anime and ~cozy farm games~
xbox games come to switch (idk anything about xbox. halo? this was rumoured)
bingo space: C button is for voice chat (microphone sold separately) (idr did anyone find a microphone on it?) (wii speak...2!)
price of games go up $10-20
monetization:
nintendo dabbles in microtransactions for the first time this generation. remember in the mid-2010s everyone was like "nintendo is the good company they dont release halfassed games" and then so many games were halfassed on the switch LMAO. also they really focused on DLC this time around and ""free updates""
microtransactions/more paid DLC for animal crossing, NOT tied to amiibo, maybe they'll try to milk it and make it run longer. expansions for towns/islands/cities (whatever they settle on), furniture sets, villagers.
microtransactions/more paid DLC for splatoon 4, not tied to amiibo. single player obviously, but also cosmetics and maybe weapon skins (THERES your "third kits")
free-to-play games with microtransactions?
honest attempts at live service games for AC and splatoon. i feel like its stupid how little content they put out for these major games when they could very easily get way more money out of it. if not "indefinite" service then way more than just two years (lbr "two years" was barely anything for these games. they released bare bones games and then added like one major thing towards the end of the lifespan after two years and thats it. they ended before they got good, or they started to get good and then it died because no one gave a shit anymore because they don't know how to keep people interested)
themes, but not to the extent of the 3ds (nothing quirky)
the playtest game, if they're gonna make it a full experience,
wishlist/wildcard:
nintendogs. idk if i necessarily want to play it but its more about a nostalgic IP coming back lol. and it would look good
quirky comes back (personality with menus, miis, something like streetpass, badge arcade, cutesy themes, SOMETHING)
gamecube VC
make wii and ds work somehow
i want the rayman 3 remaster pleeease :) dont think it'll be in the direct though im not expecting it
wildcard: mario paint as a cheap eshop title
oooooooooooooh bring back art academy maybe
more first party smaller titles for eshop? (like how pokemon does with their free to play games. like release a simple dr. mario without charging $60 for it)

Some thoughts on Ayakoi App
Since I'm replaying Ayakoi so I get to post my overall thoughts on the common routes, each faction and their respective characters, I also wanted to talk about how I felt overall about the game, more specifically the app since the Switch version is just a visual novel without the gacha mechanics.
Overall I think that Ayakoi is a good game. Not perfect, mind you but a good game. I do enjoy the setting of it taking place in the Meiji era along with the use of Ayakashi and reincarnation. And I do like the characters, even the ones who I consider to be just fine. More than that, I liked how each faction tells a different story and how tied each character is to said faction. And not to mention the main theme of the game is the bonds between people, whether they be romantic, familial, or platonic. And it's just a chill game you can play. So yeah, I think it's a good game. But it's not without its issues.
I think my main takeaway issue would have to be that the game works better as a regular visual novel, not a gacha. Because you can't rely that much on a gacha game that has a short shelf life, especially if it's not making money, which is the case for Ayakoi for the JP server and especially the EN server which stopped any and all updates. The way I see it, Ayakoi really is just a chill, comfy type of game that has a decent amount of plot and character development. The more I'm playing the Switch version, the more I appreciate the fact I can just sit back and enjoy the story without the hassle of getting SSR cards and the amount of grinding and materials I needed. I know that Event stories and both SR and SSR cards have stories that help further the character's development, add in more backstory, and I do like that added detail to the overall arching storyline. Personally for me I never worried whether I got a character's card or not in the gacha banner because I knew I wouldn't be missing out on much as compared to the Main and Event stories. (Unless it's Oji, then I'm gonna collect every one of his cards). So when I look at the game as a whole, I don't see any reason why it should be a gacha when I can easily see it as another type of Love 365 game where you buy a main and side stories with coins.
Now, with Ayakoi running on a live server, it's going to inevitably get hit by an EOS announcement or like with the EN server, stop updating entirely. It's not a matter of if it'll happen but when. And seeing that Voltage's apps don't seem to be doing all that well financially, I'm not sure when Ayakoi will stop updating or get shut down. And if it does shut down entirely, all the stories will be gone, which is why I hope one day Voltage will release all story content as DLC to the Switch or release Ayakoi on Steam. We get the Night faction story, Event stories, and the sequel stories as DLC. I mentioned in a previous post that at the rate Koga's Sequel story has been released (Half of it was released and years later they're releasing the other half), I do not see the other guys getting their sequel stories before the game stops updating or shuts down. There are so many unanswered questions and loose threads for each of the character's storyline (especially for Yura and the Night faction) that we'll probably never get the answers if the game shuts down. Which is why I hope people archive this kind of stuff before it gets lots in the ether.
I still think Ayakoi overall is a good game for what it is. I hope one day Voltage will just release everything as DLC for the Switch or a Steam release. I would gladly pay for it just to preserve it. I very much adore this game.

A copy of the feedback I sent to Tumblr support:
I would like to know why I am being forcibly opted in to the pointless and obtrusive advert that is the 'Luffy' tab. I have not engaged with the 'one piece' fandom - I had to do some investigation to even figure out what fandom it *was* - and had no particular opinon of it, with zero interest in engaging with it in the future. I now have been *made* to engage with it and thus now have extremely negative associations with it. It is, effectively, an *anti*-ad. Congratulations! Nobody's happy.
.
I would also like to know why the Tumblr development team consistently rolls out a change to a small number of people without warning or explanation and no option to opt out, despite repeated requests from the userbase.
.
I would like to know why the Tumblr development team consistently pushes changes to the app or platform that clearly and demonstrably reduce accessibility, convenience and intuitiveness, offer responses to the resulting outrage that are not only often blatantly false but also so incredibly patronising as to be downright offensive, and then have the unmitigated temerity to insist they're doing it all to "help content creators" and "improve usability" and generally prioritize hypothetical future 'new users' over the existing userbase while simultaneously making it clear that they consider these mythical new users to be too stupid to learn the basics of a new platform.
I truly cannot properly articulate how utterly, cynically disingenuous it is to explain that they can't implement more settings options because that would be *confusing* - as though navigating clearly labelled toggles and drop down options are some hyper advanced technical skill the average user doesn't have and can't achieve - so the absence of those options actually makes the app *more accessible* than implementing any actual accessibility options.
.
I have been on Tumblr for more than a decade, and I love it and the community I have found. It is heartbreaking to watch it steadily disintegrate into a less functional carbon copy of all the social media sites I have hated and avoided just because the handful of people making the decisions don't understand the point and value of Tumblr.
.
Please. Please. If we wanted twitter we would be *on Twitter*, if we wanted Instagram, that's where we'd be. Tumblr is precious and vibrant *because* of it's difference, not *despite* it.
.
Ostensibly many of these changes have been made because Tumblr needs more money, and clearly the management team believes that the way to gain more money is to increase ad revenue, which is presumably why they seem so focused on pushing algorithmic content at the cost of an increasingly hostile user experience. Unfortunately that is incorrect.
Right now, Tumblr is attractive to advertisers because it has a vibrant community and is an established platform. If this trend of increasing hostility continues, more and more of the long term established users - who generate a hugely disproportionate quantity of the 'content' that makes Tumblr so unique and interesting - will leave. They will be left without the online community they have been a part of for years, something deeply distressing for them and for the community they have left, which in turn will be slowly dissolving as more and more members reach their limit and delete their accounts.
Tumblr will be left a spiralling mess of algorithm driven advertisements and porn and spam bots and a handful of bitter users, and sooner or later someone will pull the plug when it becomes apparent just how lucrative it *isn't* to advertise to non existent people.
.
Or you could listen to your userbsse.

STON.fi: The Future of Decentralized Trading on TON Blockchain
Tumblr media
In a world where control over your finances is more important than ever, STON.fi steps up as the leading decentralized exchange (DEX) on The Open Network (TON) blockchain. It’s not just about trading; it’s about empowering you to take full control of your digital assets. Let’s break it down into simple, relatable terms.
What Makes STON.fi Special
Have you ever traded crypto and worried about losing access to your funds? Or felt frustrated by slow, costly transactions? STON.fi solves these problems by letting you trade directly without intermediaries. You control your private keys, ensuring your funds are always safe.
With advanced tech like Request for Quote (RFQ) protocols and Hashed Timelock Contracts (HTLC), STON.fi guarantees quick, transparent, and secure transactions. You’re either getting exactly what you agreed on, or the trade doesn’t happen. No middlemen, no surprises.
Trade Made Simple: Swapping TON-Based Tokens
Imagine swapping one crypto for another without the hassle of converting to fiat first. That’s what STON.fi offers. You can trade $TON for other TON-based tokens with ease, all while enjoying low fees (just 0.3% per trade).
Here’s the kicker: when you trade, part of the fee goes back to liquidity providers, meaning the community benefits as a whole.
Earning Opportunities on STON.fi
Who doesn’t love making their money work for them? STON.fi offers several ways to earn:
1. Provide Liquidity: By adding your tokens to liquidity pools, you earn rewards based on your contribution.
2. Farming: Stake LP tokens to get even more rewards from specific pools.
3. STONbassador Program: Promote STON.fi and earn for helping the platform grow.
Meet the $STON Token
Think of $STON as the backbone of the STON.fi ecosystem. It’s used for governance, gas fees, and transactions. Plus, it has a limited supply of 100 million, making it a valuable asset over time.
STON.fi takes community seriously. That’s why half of all $STON tokens are reserved for the DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). This means you get a say in how the platform evolves, from deciding new features to choosing supported assets.
For Builders: The STON.fi SDK & Grants
Are you a developer? STON.fi has something for you too. Their SDK (Software Development Kit) makes it easy to integrate wallets, exchanges, and games into the platform. And if you have a great idea, the STON.fi grant program can fund you with up to $10,000 USDT.
The Future: STON.fi V2
STON.fi isn’t just about today; it’s building for tomorrow. Here’s what’s coming:

So, how's the JukeBox development coming along? Well, it sure is coming, I promise.
Tumblr media
In case you don't know what a JukeBox is, it's a little hotkey device I'm building! I originally made this to assist with my endeavors in streaming, but it turns out having extra keys is very useful for a lot of things! Whether it be hotkeys for quickly running macros via AutoHotKey, managing your Discord audio settings, playing funny sounds with VoiceMod, switching tools in your favorite art program like Paint Tool SAI, or managing OBS like I do. It's a very powerful device, and all it does is act like a keyboard with the F13-F24 keys. I bet you didn't even know there was more than the F1-F12 keys, am I right?
About a year ago, I said I would begin selling these soon. That was a bit of a lie, fortunately I am very good at those. That last bit was also a lie, in case you couldn't tell. I got the opportunity to work on the JukeBox as part of an independent study for college credit, so I took a lot of time to plan and rethink the product. That part wasn't a lie The result is the new V5 board!
Tumblr media
Ok so this isn't the actual V5 board yet.
I decided to completely change up what makes up a JukeBox. I decided to use an RP2040 chip, which is used to power a Raspberry Pi Pico. I used a Pico board, along with the old JukeBox V4 boards, an RGB LED ring, and an OLED screen to build my ideal V5 prototype. The result is the same JukeBox known and loved but with some added features, like reactive lighting and a screen to display fun graphics and info!
Tumblr media
This is the finalized board, it's design has been shipped off to manufacturing, and will hopefully arrive right at the start of the new year. I'm paying a lot of money for just 10 of these things! I can't wait.
The plan is to sell 3 versions of the board, a basic variant (keyboard only), an RGB variant, and an RGB plus screen variant. Prices are still being determined, but they will be higher than previously anticipated due to rising material costs. The goal is to keep the basic variant at $25 to maintain affordability. You will also be able to choose what kinds of keys you want, be it Cherry MX Blues or Kailh Choc Whites.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm working on the final casing. It'll be a 3D printed shell with some nice M2.5 nuts and bolts. It'll also be in a mostly-opaque white so the RGB looks good shining through. The legs are also completely optional, both the case and the legs will have nice rubber feet to keep the board steady. The keycaps will be "relegendable", meaning you'll be able to stick a piece of paper in them with whatever you want on them. You get everything seen here, plus a USB-C cable, and my deepest gratitude. Maybe some day you'll get to have a JukeBox in atomic purple instead of a basic white!
The best part about it all is that you don't need to install any drivers! The keyboard component is always guaranteed to work on any computer that supports USB, and most usually do (hopefully). The screen and RGB won't work without a companion app, sadly, but I'm working hard to make it painless to setup and use, near plug-and-play. I've been writing it in Rust while working on the board, and it will support Windows and Linux without much issue.
Lastly, the entire project is going to be open source! The code will be under an open license, and all the physical parts will be usable under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-SA). I won't allow people to just up and sell the boards without modification, but if someone wants to make and sell their own variant I'd be more than happy to allow it if they ask. Devices like these should be cheap and accessible for everyone.
Hopefully I'll start selling these on my Ko-fi before Q2 of 2024. See you then!

Mobile Game design overview
A personal Journal Entry and pre-development path.
R&D Still Required based on style of game; touch screen and gyro controls. --preliminary research complete.
Design Overview;
Other Mobile games, no matter how well designed, have extremely cluttered interfaces. Some of this is because there are multiple games, mini-games, and events packaged into the game at any one time.
Some games have an coin based (energy use) version of their main game, and a sub-game that does not require energy.
Consider using this style for offline and online modes. It seems popular to use energy for the online. Portion, this way the player can enjoy the game as they wish without overloading the servers offline.
Other games have several Quest, Achievement, and Event menus that can be consolidated into a single main menu.
The reason they don't do this is still unclear to me; but is probably similar to the big flashy tags and sales sign at in-person retailers, and in the Sears magazine.
If so, they don't serve the purpose they're intended to.
However; it's probably more that the development team is inexperienced and using a framework or game template that they then reuse for added areas. Creating a package which is a copy of the template over and over again.
I had previously considered implementing an old-style arcade "life" system like Mario, but perhaps a more simplified energy system, perhaps one that tracks step through the accelerometer (or other apps) to refresh would be good.
Energy refreshments shouldn't be purchaseables except for in specific circumstances; Similar to Hearthstone's Arena Tavern Brawls that happen periodically.
Players seem to enjoy "Season Packs" to purchase, and dislike an RMT (Real-money Trade) currency.
It also reduces clutter and increases understandability by reducing the options that a player has for a single game.
"Gacha Summons" shouldn't be purchaseables. meaning Gacha, or loot boxes, if used should be separated from the RMT purchase portion.
Rewards for skill shown in the online portion should be considered and given to players that perform well in whatever the online portion might be
Minor connectivity for offline achievements should be included for verification, but more or less separated from the online game entirely.
Some specific achievements may reward Skins and other abilities for the online portion.
A small game studio shouldn't really go whale fishing like happens in many games today. (Packs valued by studios worth $100+ are common and give little. Seems more like a wishful thinking menu item)
Entry into a crypto-based achievement system, whichever company is able to make a stable one; is key in future development. Releasing of items and achievements into a startup ecosystem will help the game to grow.
Without going into depth on any specific game mechanics; this covers everything about the interface design research.
The question still remains how to address monetization and store based items. Aside from releasing things into a gaming ecosystem where they can be displayed and reused in other places; I'm not sure what to sell.
Gacha games are a dime a dozen and have seemingly all the same pricing scheme. Without a reason to have seasons, theres no reason a player might want to purchase one.
Here's what I think;
Hosting Price and monthly expenses need to be taken into account, but $1-10 depending on what % the hosting service might take, for a "Premium Account" badge, either a one-time, yearly or monthly seems key.
Re-curring costs may be implemented for "seasonal" reasons based on when the majority of players tend to be actively interacting with the game.
Lastly; Data needs to be reduced to a minimum. Part of these sizes are voiced lines, raster graphics for the dozens of different menus, CGI cutscenes, and music.
All of this will help to make a game that will be able to make it into anybody's pocket.

Note
I have a stable job and I'm pretty good about saving but recently I've been so curious about starting my own business. I'm not sure what kind but I don't think I'm interested in doing dropshipping or those things I get ads for online. Then again, those are the ones that tend to be more passive... You've done 9 different businesses, did you have a favorite one? If so, what was it?
My favorite one so far was developing an app. It was really challenging and I learned how to graphic design because of it and now I’m learning how to code. It really forced me to think outside of the box because it was like having to learn a new language in order to find solutions. The psychological element of it was also fascinating like studying the different ways us human interact with different gamification, colors, sounds, shapes, and notifications. The people I met and got to work with in this industry are also really nice, mostly very high quality individuals.
There are more ways to create money passively than we think. I would probably avoid anything I get ads for. Also, it’s ok to have businesses that aren’t passive but are still making you money. You can learned how to delegate and eventually get to a point where the business runs itself without you constantly being there physically. It’s true that the most profitable businesses are the boring ones (solving peoples problems).

The Purpose of an MVP: Unlocking Success for Startups
Tumblr media
For startups, creating a new product often feels like stepping into the unknown. Questions like “Will people use this?” or “Is it worth the investment?” can be overwhelming. That’s where a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) comes in—a smart way to test your idea without spending too much time or money upfront.
An MVP is more than just a basic version of a product. It’s a strategy to validate ideas, test market fit, and gather user feedback. Many startups also pair MVP development with web development to quickly establish their online presence. Let’s dive into how an MVP can set the stage for your startup’s success.
What is an MVP?
An MVP is the simplest version of a product that includes only the core features necessary to demonstrate its value. It’s not a prototype but a working product that users can engage with.
Why MVPs Matter:
Launch faster with fewer resources.
Test ideas in real-world conditions.
Gather insights to guide future development.
Why Startups Should Begin with an MVP
1. Validate Your Business Idea with Minimal Investment
Startups often face the risk of spending resources on an idea that may not work. An MVP helps avoid this by focusing on the essentials.
Benefits of Validation:
Save Time & Money: Test only the core features to see if your idea connects with your audience.
Make Better Decisions: Use data from early tests to decide whether to continue, pivot, or drop the idea.
Example: Dropbox validated its idea with a simple demo video, showing how the product would work. The video’s success attracted early adopters and investors. Similarly, ecommerce website development allows startups to quickly showcase products and test market interest.
2. Test Product-Market Fit Early
Product-market fit is all about ensuring your product meets the needs of your target audience. An MVP lets you test this before scaling up.
How an MVP Helps:
Solve Key Problems: Focus on what users really need.
Quick Adjustments: Use feedback to improve features.
Stay Competitive: Pivot or iterate early to avoid costly mistakes.
Example: Instagram started as a feature-rich app called Burbn. User feedback revealed photo sharing was the most-loved feature, leading to its pivot into the Instagram we know today.
3. Gather Real User Feedback
Early feedback is crucial to building a product that meets user needs. An MVP gives you access to early adopters who provide insights for improvement.
Why Feedback Matters:
Understand Needs: Identify which features users value most.
Build Loyalty: Engaged early adopters often become loyal advocates.
Improve Continuously: Refine your product to match real-world demands.
Example: Twitter initially launched as a simple SMS-based platform. Early feedback shaped it into the social media giant it is today.
How to Build a Successful MVP
Define the Problem: Know the core issue your product solves.
Understand Your Audience: Research what your target users want.
Prioritize Features: Focus only on the must-haves.
Build the MVP: Create a simple but functional product.
Launch & Test: Let users interact with your MVP and collect feedback.
Iterate & Improve: Use insights to refine and scale your product.
Common MVP Mistakes to Avoid
Overcomplicating It: Adding too many features defeats the purpose. Solution: Stick to the basics.
Ignoring Feedback: Neglecting user input can lead to a product that fails. Solution: Actively listen and adapt.
Delaying Launch: Waiting for perfection wastes time and opportunities. Solution: Focus on progress, not perfection.
Conclusion: Start Small, Think Big
An MVP isn’t just a product—it’s a strategy. It helps startups take smart risks, validate ideas, and save resources. By focusing on validation, market fit, and user feedback, an MVP becomes the foundation for future success.
Remember, the goal is not to create a perfect product but to start the journey. Build, test, learn, and grow. Let your MVP be the first step toward turning your big vision into reality. 🌟

In areas with low engagement, the range of available items may be limited. Facebook Reliance: Many groups are hosted on Facebook, which may not be ideal for individuals who do not use the platform. However, the app aims to address this issue. Inconsistent Availability: The availability of items can be unpredictable and dependent on what members choose to offer at any given time.
BuyNothing is a powerful and effective movement that promotes sustainability, community building, and economic savings through the sharing of goods and services. Its local focus and reliance on neighborly interaction make it unique and impactful, fostering a sense of connection and mutual support among members. While the platform's success depends on local engagement and the range of available items can vary, the overall benefits of reducing waste, saving money, and enhancing community ties make BuyNothing a valuable initiative for those looking to contribute to and benefit from a sharing economy.

@staff You people want me to pay for ad free in order to make my phone not overheat using this fucking app which i have been a user for more than ten years like the majority of people that actually use this app on a daily basis. An app should be able to perform properly on a device without overheating without having to pay a subscription fee. You want users to leave obviously the tumblr company must be some kind of tax shelter at this point the way no developer effort has actually improved the functionality or added new users or improved the culture of the website yall should be ashamed and while your sitting on your toilet reading your email think of how worthless any of this is and how we are heading to a sad bland useless future and a sexless brain dead culture of fat money hoarding pigs
